You won’t win it with kids Steve.

Actually, scratch that statement Mr. Morgan. You won’t win it with just kids.
If tonight taught us anything it’s that however talented and enthusiastic our brightest academy graduates might be, they can’t do it alone.
Reinforcements are needed before the month is out in the specific shape of tried and tested League One talent.
In stark contrast to last season, this young Wolves side is fit, motivated and up for the fight. What they lack is the guiding hand that only experience can bring.
You can see it. I can see it. Can the people who shape the destiny of our season see it? We’ll find out in the coming weeks.
It’s a crying shame that the memory of individual performances in this rather drab cup tie from the likes of Ismail, Batth and Ebanks-Landell will be camouflaged by the hideousness of the result.
Ebanks-Landell in particular caught my eye, solid and commanding throughout, showcasing a few nice touches on occasion.
Alongside him Batth was just as good, throwing his body in the way of countless crosses and making sure Morecambe never got a clear opening.
Further forward, Zeli Ismail came alive in the second half with a fine cross that Griffiths headed against the post before curling a superb effort of his own against the top of the bar.
It was a shame to see him go off with what looked like cramp. When he departed, so did any cutting edge we offered.
And with neither side showing much in the final third, the one moment of real quality won the game.
After so much pain in the last two years, a first round League Cup loss against an average League Two outfit hurts a lot less than it probably should.
Despite no goals in either of our first two games of the season, there’s still a sense that these kids are alright.
The problem is that alright might not be good enough.

Excellent blog here Thomas and I think the main point to address here is that judging from the two competitive games we’ve had (not the most reliable way of doing things admittedly) we are defensively sound (180 minutes, no goals conceded from open play) but surprisingly lacking in threat and firepower! The midfield needs strengthening fast!
Jackett, Moxey, Morgan – over to you!
We need 3-4 new players. Especially a creative midfielder and winger.
No strength in depth. The players need support and guidance to cope with the pressure and expectation.
Many of the young players showed flashes of individual promise and the right sort of natural attributes but as a team we fell way short. The passing was particularly poor and there was little creativity or midfield presence. I have long been concerned that we have chosen entirely the wrong type of manager for this project.
Midfield was dreadful, absolutely dreadful, so much so the best tackle was from Griffiths in the 1st half (obviously bored stiff from the lack of service he came back to get the ball).
Davis was just OK prior to his yellow, afterwards he was anonymous. Foley has two passes in his locker – the short sideways or backwards or the hopeful hoof. Not a midfielder. Evans brief appearance cameo was punctuated by losing the ball cheaply 2 or 3 times. I forgot Forde was even on the field until his shot on goal. Ismail was terrible in the 1st half, looked half-decent after the interval, then hurt himself. Looks like he’s made of glass.
Defensively Doherty, Batth and Ebanks-Landell were decent. But let’s not forget Morecambe was missing their starting strikers. Reckord looked like Bambi on ice – if we see him again this season then we’re in real, real trouble.
Cannot remember Cassidy contributing anything other than fouls, Griffiths should have scored, Doyle kept falling over. So normal service up front.
A few observations:
1) Having cancelled my Sky subscription, I paid the princely sum of £9.99 to watch this game pay per view on NowTV. [Last time I forked out on pay per view was £15 to watch Bruno v Tyson at 3am and I fell asleep and missed the fight. The Bruno/Tyson fight was better value].
2) I decorated the living room this morning and at one point towards the end of the first half I noticed that a patch of paint next to the TV had not dried properly [I was literally watching paint dry and it was marginally more entertaining].
3) At some point during half time my internet connection completely dropped. [Having invested a tenner this would normally have made me apoplectic with rage but I found myself rebooting the router a couple of times and then giving up, favouring a chat with the missus over watching the second half. As fate would have it, I switched the radio on in the kitchen as I was grabbing a beer and heard the final whistle on WM. I was fully expecting a 0-0 to test my patience over missing extra time and penalties but the somewhat inevitable defeat had a surprisingly calming influence. Good old, predictable Wolves. Had that covered at 6/4].
It may have been on Sky but it looked like it was filmed from the dugout and it had all the class and gravitas of a non-league friendly.
I’m sure the club will argue it was only a micky mouse cup game and we need to concentrate on the league anyway but they are wrong. EVERY GAME is important. That was crap. A little over 12 months ago we were a Premier League team. Morgan needs to ask himself: If that was Liverpool would it be acceptable? I think we all know the answer.
u pay for football?? why???? firstrowuk.eu is your friend
I use myp2p.eu too and it saves me splashing out on any pay per view site if I can’t get to a game.
Even though we are out of the league cup, my metaphorical cup is still half full.
Wonderful it was to see Zeli come through in the second half. It only takes a few of those tricks to win a match and Zeli son, if you can keep believing you will do it soon enough.
Ecstatic to see Ebanks-Landell grow in stature steadily through the game.
Cracking to see Forde keep his head up and drive towards goal while making his physical presence felt throughout.
Bostin to see Batth taking it all in his stride, miles berra than Berra!
Despite this Morecambe muggin my heads still held high. We do have a future and every player showed something tonight to make me think they can be part of it. Its going to be a pleasure to see it evolve. COYW!
Must have been a good second half! I really hope these lads do have what it takes but the margins are fine and we look to be the wrong side of the line at the moment. I hope your faith in them is rewarded.
Watching this reminded me of a reserve game, with a total lack of quality. I really hope Jackass can sort it out and not just be a yes man.
Deja vu all over again. But at least now we can concentrate on the League, or whatever Division 3 is called now. And fully agree with Thomas, you don’t win a thing with just kids – it’s the right mix of kids and experience that we need. I missed most of last season’s games but are any of the blokes blamed for that disaster, and now ostracised until they move, worth keeping for their experience?
And why the f*** were we playing in a blue away strip? Gold and black is quite easy to tell apart from red n white even on a black n white telly (13,000 licences still issued each year).
Couldn’t agree more. On a day that saw the death of a legend in old gold, we turn up in nightmare blue. Where’s the pride?
This both barely even fazes me as well as reiterates how sad we are and how far we’ve fallen.
Apparently this was live on TV here in the U.S. …why, beIN Sport, why? Buddy (Villa fan) said he watched about 15 min before wanting to hang himself…and this is a man a year removed from McLeish…
Whatever. Who cares about the second tier cup. Save our run for the FA in January when we’ll hopefully be in the promotion hunt in League One. UTW.
Any ideas why the club/board/Morgan are pushing this ‘Young and hungry’ bollocks again? Is it to deflect away from the fact that we’re doing it on the cheap and that Morgan is stripping the club of cash? To remind you, the Scouse prick bought the club off Sir Jack for tuppence on the proviso that he invested £30mm of his own cash.
£30mm Morgans own cash (as promised to a Knight of the Realm)
£60mm (approx) Premier League TV money over 3 years
£32mm (2011 – 2013) in parachute payments
£30mm from player sales after relegation
Bearing in mind this doesn’t include any kit/ground advertising or matchday turnover/season ticket sales during Morgan’s time here. Can someone look at the above figures and tell me why we’re scratting around on a pittance and not ensuring that we get promoted this year by at least buying the top players in League One?
We’re being robbed blind by a scouse con merchant and yet our local press don’t even call them to question as they’er scared of losing they’re access
#headsgone
Tafkag, You are way out mate with your estimate of £60m the total is more like £111m.Made up as follows; season9/10 £32m circa, 10/11£40.6m and 11/12 £39.1m.if you add the £16m from last season this makes a total of over £127m in the last 4 years. My source for the last 2 seasons in the Premier is from the Nationwide Football Annual. You can also get the figures from the published accounts for Wolves(1986) Ltd.
Ah ok fair enough. I just googled it and took it from a couple of Telegraph articles, it was more of a rant than a fully researched comment!!
Do the accounts give any indication of where all this cash has gone (aside from the Moxey Krispy Kreme fund) ? I assume the accounting is creative enough to disguise the flow of cash into Morgan’s pockets…
It’s a subject that the club hasn’t discussed and one the Express & Star stoutly refuse to investigate Tafkag.
The club’s stance seems to be: Refuse to answer the question about money, ignore it for long enough. We can eventually turn around and say ‘haven’t we gone through all this before / we need to move on from this / Time to get behind the lads’ etc etc.
It serves to make us fans sound repetitive, predictable and more marginalised as a result.
The more we fail, the more Jez Moxey and Steve Morgan use the very failure to cover their own arses.
‘Time for the kids, time for the arrival of The Special One, time to say sorry if it means they’ll shut up and stop bloody moaning.’
It’s as if all of Moxey and Morgan’s shameful mismanagement was designed for days like last night. Like it was part of the plan.
So after this latest disgraceful defeat, and when brow beaten fans decide they can’t afford any more suffering, the club can look at an attendance of about 13,000 on Saturday, assume the moral high ground and say:
‘Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.’
I’ve just tweeted Tim Nash of the E&S requesting he do some “proper journalism”. I doubt I’ll get a response
One of the (many) things that knocked me for six last season was when Bully came to the defence of morgan … that hurt a lot … we can all fight amongst ourselves about “being supporters” but nobody, for or against steve morgan can argue the cld hard facts …
A club in free fall, 2 relegations in a row, whilst Steve and Jez make an absolute fortune.
Even now as we plummet out of the league altogether, the scouse prick (i like that) will pull in 1 mil for henry 2 mil for doyle and about 4 mil for sako, and will not be spending a single penny.
It’s not negativty folks, its the bloody truth.
If we are going to ply our trade in the lower leagues from now on then I say we bloody well do so without the fat cunt and scouse prick.
These are facts.
Nope, those are obscenities.
A number of us have expressed concerns that this youthful squad would not be good enough.Last night the result heaped yet more shame on the name of our football club, but that was secondary to the standard of football played. The lack of overall quality should have been apparent to anyone with even a basic understanding of football.Beforehand and afterwards Sky screened some previous Wolves performances from the Championship, against Preston and Burnley from about 6 years ago. These were not good performances by any means ,but the standard ,pace and ball control was light years better than the non league standard served up last night. Apart from Baath s none of the kids look remotely good enough to ever progress to Championship, never mind Premier ,standard.Ismail has the skill but will struggle to physically compete.
Steve Morgan is running our football club into the ground and he should be ashamed . Over £120m receipts from television rights money in the last 4 years, and in football terms there is nothing to show for it,other than ridicule from the fans of every other club in the Country.
One question.
If all the high earners on wages inappropriate for Dision 1 have got to go, why is Moxey still here?
That, mate, is a very good question, but it is in part answered by the comments above.
What other CEO could put £120m in the pocket of the owner while the company was abjectly failing to produce the one thing that it is in business for?
See you at Bristol and we’ll get it all sorted.
Tickets arrived today. Is there a returns procedure?!!
You couldn’t fault the effort. These kids gave everything……but. They are not good enough yet. The passing was poor and we seemed to revert to long ball too quickly when it was crying out for us to just keep the ball. Leigh Griffiths will not thrive on long balls.
There are some good kids here who deserve our support – I hope they get it in shed loads.
However, experience is needed quickly. Stop fannying around Morgan and learn from your mistakes of the past.
Spot on Linden. I found a website showing the Sky Sports TV feed and sat at my desk neglecting my work for 2 hours. Unfortunately we are light years away from getting our games on our TV channels again. We get all Premier League games, but not much else. The kids tried, but it was experienced men of limited quality against boys with perhaps some potential.
However I can’t see Morgan learning anything while Moxey is around.
By the way folks great blog and nice to see criticism of the E&S style of kid glove reporting on our club.
I can’t find much positive to say but am delighted that some bloggers can when we have just lost to a mediocre division 2 side. IMHO it was awful. Post Deano, I’m not sure what has changed much – other than the personnel which has resulted in a much lower wage bill. We still can’t hold onto the ball. The passing is poor and too often we resort to the long ball which got us relegated twice in two seasons. Jacko can certainly talk the talk; it now remains to be seen if he can walk the walk. He has every opportunity to as we are not talking premiership or championship here but division three.
We are paying good money to watch a team made up mainly of reserves and youth team players and tactics which appear to have changed little. Something else that has not changed is that we appear to be doing it on the cheap yet again. No new signings apart from a free and nothing on the horizon. We continually miss out on players we try to sign. The reason given for this is because we are a division 3 side but if these players felt we had the potential to go straight back up, felt we had some ambition, I feel certain they would buy into our vision and come to the Mol. Our continued failing to sign our target players can only be down to our continued failure to pay competitive wages.
I hate to say it again but take a look at Swansea and those b*gg*rs closer to home. Like Colin stated earlier, I have never been certain that KJ is the right man for the long term job of restructuring, changing our style of play and getting us established in the prem. His strengths appear to have been working on a shoestring budget and that, I believe, is the primary reason he was appointed. Very early days and I’m certainly not calling for KJs head. In fact I hope my fears are proven to be hopelessly wrong. I just feel we should have stuck with Solbakken after we appointed him and backed him with time and money.
I think we should have backed Solbakken too, but unlike you I am persuaded by what Kenny Jackett has done so far. He has done the necessary in clearing out the old guard. He is correct in staking the future on the youngsters. The current team isn’t going to win the seven games on the trot each by three or four nil which would be the only thing that would appease the fantasists on this blog – but they are gaining experience and will improve over time.
I think the style of play Jackett has adopted is clearly far from the hit-and-hope incoherent mess that Saunders was attempting. The players are passing to one another and but for a brilliant free-kick the defence would have achieved another clean sheet. Batth already looks like being our player of the year and I was impressed by how smoothly Sam Ricketts moved from full back to centre-half at Preston on Saturday.
Ismail, Forde and Ebanks-Landell all showed something last night for periods of the game. There was enough there to show we have a team worth supporting. There are going to be no white knights so we’d best get fully behind what we have got.
‘Young and hungry’ was asked for and that’s what we saw last night; however with it came inexperience and a lack of creativity. Experience will only come with playing more matches which appears to be what KJ has in mind but creativity on the pitch is more likely to be provided by more established players who have ‘seen it all before’. A couple of tried and tested league journey men are a must if only to lead the midfield and to get the ball on the deck for Griffiths.
If it is the case that money will not be spent until the exiled high earners are moved on, Wolves have a serious problem as the scenario of paying huge sums to unwanted employees for doing nothing whilst at the same time being desperate for experienced players is calamitous. There are few that do not acknowledge that the exiled players bear some responsibility for the club’s recent decline and must pay the consequences; however the current strategy may result in the same players having an impact upon this season as well as if they are not sold, Wolves appear unlikely to buy.
One last thought; last night’s game was crying out for an experienced ex-premiership player to come on and ‘turn the game’ (surely a realistic task in what was essentially a League 2 fixture) an ideal opportunity to showcase the talent of someone like Doyle; need I say more?
M y views entirely. I travelled to Morcambe yesterday and I was quite
I mpressed with what I saw in our youngsters. They tried and I felt they
D id themselves justice. I do beleieve however, that they will become quite
F rustrated if they are not supported by experienced players. As has been
I denitified by us all – they cannot do this alone as they need much more
E xperience. I love it when we win games and am content to draw away, but
L osing this game is not the end of the world and goes some way to prove the
D istance between Divisions is not as huge as it was. Look at other Cup results.
W olves will always be my club and every single fan on here knows that we can be
O utspoken at times, mainly due to the lack of forward thinking from the management.
E ven now we are still talking about our midfield lacking the calibre needed to stop us
S liding any further down the league. Sort the midfield please.
A fter driving back home to North Yorkshire and listening to Five Live I was
G lad (in a way) to hear other teams had been beaten by lower Division clubs.
A ll that did however is confirm what I said above. The most upsetting factor
I n last night’s game for me though was with Doyle. I have always considered him
N ot as a striker but as an attacking midfielder. He had the opportunity and he failed!
OMG that was dire. It just keeps getting worse.
This bunch look absolutely s**t. That has to be the worst performance by any Wolves team I have ever witnessed.
RELEGATION is CERTAIN. Get on NOW.
Morecambe are destined to go out of the league … and this was their reserves.
The sooner we go broke ; liquidate ; whatever; and relieve me of this dreadful heartache the better.
You snivelling ball of shit. Go and troll chatroulette or see a therapist.
I can’t believe some of the comments on here either.
I thought this was what everyone wanted -youngsters trying hard instead of old hands going through the motions ? – Turns out we lose either way !
Positives ? Batth looked solid…….. and thats it.
I would single out : Cassidy; Forde; Foley;Reckord; as being utterly useless and should not be given any further chances.
But what hurt most was the manager trying to make out someone played well. I want him to be going berserk. I don’t care how young they are – if they are being paid to play professional football they have to perform much better than that. They didn’t create ONE clear cut chance.
And what happened to the steady team ? Do you really believe that there were 4 injuries and 2 sickness that just happened to include the captain, the best player, and the best striker ? KJ contributed to our utter humiliation by his team selection and his post match comments. He’s doing exactly what Sammy Chapman did and the result will be the same.
See you at the Gillingham game – expecting at least 4 mysterious recoveries (Sako, Sigurdsson, Rickets, and Elokobi) and changes to the team and a massive defeat.
I think that going berzerk is self defeating, so early into the season mate. However, I agree with the general principle. I think Jackett should start to exert a bit of subtle pressure on the powers that be, in order to hammer home the point that he has a hand tied behind his back.
I.E. I was disappointed he made no real mention of that fact he needs 6 new players MINIMUM!
According to WM, we have either released or declared intention to release 15 players since last season (can’t for the life of me think who those 15 are BTW)
We have brought in ONE! Go figure…
If I was KJ, then the penny would be dropping with me that a couple of hapless amateurs at the top will be threatening my credibility if things don’t change on the transfer front before August 31.
As Thomas’ blog says, we’ll have to wait and see what happens!
I’m afraid Ben that performance has broken me. I’ve been through successive relegations before and no one deserves to follow a team through it twice. I can’t see any point in wasting time watching this club – it’s not going to recover beyond Championship at best and it’s going to take years to even get that far.
If I’m to spend time watching Soccer in my dotage, it might as well be good football. With all the choice on Sky now you can follow anyone.
I’ve always liked Mourinho and watched all of Real Madrid’s matches for the last 2 seasons. I’m gonna follow him wherever he goes – so Chelsea for now.
Wolves will live in my heart – but it’ll be Dougan, Richards, Munro and Wagstaffe, Mcalle and Parkin, Parkes and Bailey that I’ll remember. Beating Juventus, Carl Zeiss, Ado. Winning the league Cup in ’74. This club will never give its new fans any memories like I have.
I’ll be there Saturday to say Goodbye to the old days with Wagstaffe and Goodbye to Molineux for the foreseeable future.
You going pferdepferde? Good.
You and Rupert Murdoch will make a fine couple, sitting in your fat armchair destroying football with the Sky poison.
Hear hear, What a knobhead he is. In his summary about Wolves he never even mentioned Bully which just confirms he knows jack shit. I, like him, and many others, have been there when we got relegated and I watched Aldershot humiliate us. I started seeing Wolves a tad late (I was 11) my first match being in 1969, but NEVER will I belittle them. I am not a happy clapper, but why would I ever want to rant on like him (am I doing so now? lol) Yes, we have had bad seasons, but this is only our 2ND game and it was a cup game. Looking at all the other results last night a lot of Championship clubs were also beaten by 2nd (4th) Div sides. The man is a knob. I believe we will come good, in time, but we will be okay. UTW
Hear Hear!!!
2 games is a bit soon to start judging. As far as I am concerned no true Wolves fan will turn their backs on this club, either you are gold and black through and through or you’re not!
True fans we need, moaners we don’t!
Kevin Porter, it is surely not Rupert Murdoch’s fault, we are in the position we are in?
We are asking 4m for Sako & 2m for Doyle? –
It’s too much and if a player doesn’t want to play for the club let him go.
Doyle has given fair service in his time here and we should make it easy, not difficult, for him to leave.
Sako has already implied, that Moxey went back on his word from what he said, when he originally signed.
Ward, O’Hara and Johnson should just be sacked, made free agents, so that they are not at the club at all.
Also, considering this and the past 2 years, if you were an ambitious footballer, would you go to Wolves? –
Play for a club whose most important ‘players’ are the chairman and the ceo?
We cannot get new players because everybody knows, that money not football is the determining factor, in the running of Wolves.
On one level,as pferdepferde points out, part of me feels I am supporting a team that puts finance before victory on the pitch, so why, wholeheartedly support such a policy?
Let’s hope we win 5-0 Saturday but, like others, I cannot see it changing until the club is sold or turned into a housing estate….
Your head in your arse is what’s “broken” you…
what does that mean exactly ?
it means if you dont agree with what matt says you are up for some abuse from matt…. when did all these halfwits start visiting this blog ?
Ben: 6 new players minimum?
Don’t be ridiculous. It ain’t going to happen, nor would there be any point. If you want 6 new players then go and support someone else. Support the youngsters we have got – be thankful that Sam Ricketts was prepared to join us as captain. And get behind the team.
pfredepferde: Cassidy, Forde, Foley and Reckord totally useless?
Don’t be ridiculous. What are you going to do – scream in the face of every youngster that you think isn’t performing to the standard of Iniesta? Grow up. How did we manage to hit the post three times if we didn’t create a chance?
So we’ve got a paper thin squad, with something like 16 senior pros available, and you tell me that six new players would be pointless?! Then you go and tell me to support another team for daring to yearn for the very prospect?
Why?
Why is it that the more absurd, blinkered and downright illogic that pro-Morgan/Moxey ‘superfans’ get, the more they think it’s fair game to question other fans’ loyalty?
I’d NEVER tell you to go and support someone else, or insinuate (in a not so subtle way) that you’re some sort of superior supporter.
You’re not Kevin.
You’re just a blinkered sycophant who presumes such a standpoint qualifies for superiority.
And are you so dogmatic that you genuinely think that questioning the club and cheering the lads on are mutually exclusive? Seriously Kevin?
You can keep lapping up failure all you like, as if you’re lowly expectations were a match made in heaven.
I won’t.
Namely because I want an end to defeats like the one suffered last night.
OK, fair point. I’m not trying to suggest I’m a superior type of supporter. I apologise.
But six minimum? That’s hyperbole. Six or more new players would totally undermine the work done with the present squad. It would be like starting out over again and we’d have to loan out or sell many of our youngsters to make room.
Maybe we’d profit in the short-term from a couple of experienced signings, yes – but are we likely to get them and is that what we want to do? I’m excited about seeing these youngsters mature into a new Wolves team.
Phew. I don’t like conflict believe it or not! And I apologise for calling you a sycophant!
Maybe six is upwardly ambitious, but I’m seeing similarities to Mick’s first season back in 06. He brought in Karl Henry, Craig Davies, Jemal Johnson, Darren Potter, Gary Breen to name but five, after inheriting a similarly paper thin squad. He then went big in January too.
He still played Mark Little, Lewis Gobern and Daniel Jones regularly off the top of my head.
I actually agree with you, in that I don’t want to undermine them. Like you, I want them to thrive.
With some seasoned heads, we could do that.
The alternative is not to supplement the youth, they’re left out to dry and they are zapped of confidence / paralyzed by fear before their careers take off.
I’d hate to see that happen.
As you say Ben there is the risk that a run of defeats would kill off the confidence of the youngsters and paralyze their ability. I can see that a few experienced heads may be needed to reduce that risk.
I don’t think the two competitive performances and the pre-season campaign have shown that a run of league defeats is likely to happen. I think this side, as it is, can hold its own in this division, but not maybe get an automatic promotion spot.
See my response to ledbury lupus above.
You are an unbelievable personal prick.
You don’t even realise that everybody hates you and wishes you would just leave. Your opinions aren’t even worth reading.
I stand totally behind all my comments.
and I’m glad your club can afford to lose longstanding supporters.
Oooooh! (grabs handbag Mortimer and Reeves style)
I’m loving reading your comments!!
Never before has a head been found so far up one’s arse!
you seem to have a fascination with arses …
whilst I cant purge you posterior problem I can remind you that everyone is allowed a voice, even if it does, at times, differ from yours.
Doherty was trying to cross and mishit it. Ismail was trying to cross and mishit it. Griffiths had no space to put the ball in and could not have scored -hits keeper or post -unless he’s Iniesta in your terms.
They are not chances.
Good news is I get to see players of Iniesta standard every week
But we did cross the half-way line, right?
Or was that only by mistake?
didn’t look likely to do anything useful with it when they got there though did they ?

see my response to Ledbuty Lupus and to Kevin Porter in response to your 10.06 am post above. I, along with all the other fans who were at Morcambe thought that our youngsters tried and I did not hear one moan or boo. They were clapped off, because they TRIED.
Ismail was clearly trying to curl that ball into the top corner and just put a bit too much on it. Very nice piece of skill imo.
You would hope that what he said to the press and what he said in the dressing room were two different things – he’s inherited a team of low confidence and blasting them publicly won’t do that much use…behind closed doors though – who knows?
Spot on Hamlet.
Good blog thomas & i agree with what you have said 100%. After watching last nights game though i still have a major issue with one player who has kept his place from last season… Carl Ikeme. I feel although a decent shot stopper, his distribution is terrible and he is constantly beaten from 20 yards or more (with this happening yet again last night) when imo he shouldnt have been as his positioning for the free kick was poor. Commanding his area is suppose to be his strong point, but yet again towards the end of last season & again last night every time the ball was put into our box i was just filled with nerves. I think its time we got to see Wayne Hennessey back in goal, although prone to the odd error (like every goalkeeper) i feel that he is a better all round keeper, so if we can build from the back & keep the ball instead of aimlessly giving it away after every goal kick then it would be a step in the right direction.
I dont want to be/sound negative but it is something i have thought for a while now and it would be interesting to hear others opinions on the matter.
I think more noticable was that shot he spilled in the second half I think – were it not for Ebanks-Landell that would have been 1-0 right there! Prefer Hennessey to Ikeme 100%
Spot on Hamlet.
I had imagined that Hennessey would be our No.1 keeper again this season, especially as I thought he was the player most likely to be given the captain’s armband. I too have a few little doubts about Ikeme and you are quite right about that superb Ebanks-Landell goal-saving intervention, had he not been swift of thought and action we would have certainly conceded and the Morecambe forward was favourite for the ball too.
I disagree with you on this one. I prefer Ikeme. And regarding conceding goals from distance, Hennessy’s got a portfolio of them over the years.
I thought we were ok at times , midfield seemed a bit lacking in collecting the ball and there was no width . Are we not playing ward because of the new implications with the 60 p cent turnover thing ? Can some one please explain his exile to me . He s plated wide left in the premier league . If we were offered him now from another club surely we would take there arm off . Can some one tell me why ward can’t play for wolves
Because Ward cant play…..period.
It don’t matter who he turns out for, as long as he’s got a hole up his arse he is not a footballer.
If you think Ward is the answer then I have some prime oceanfront real estate in Arizona to sell you.
Because Ward’s got his period? I heard he was pre-menstrual in training last week, so maybe he can turn over a new sanitary towel now!
🙂 Tee hee, Ben.
What a load of rubbish commenters.
So we lost to Morecambe in the League Cup with a team full of youngsters? Who cares – the League Cup is the equivalent of a friendly for us these days anyway. Who wants to win a round or two then get hammered 7-0 against Chelsea?
We asked that the old guard be jettisoned and the youngsters selected. That is what Jackett has done. And in that game last night I saw a bunch of players who were worth supporting.
This is a new dawn for the club. We’ve played Ismail, Reckord, Ebanks-Landell, Forde, Evans, Batth, Doherty, Davis and Price in our first two competitive games. Isn’t that what we wanted?
Don’t expect them to step in and sweep away opposition. It isn’t going to happen.
Don’t expect any mega-signings either – even if we were prepared to spend the money, nobody brilliant is going to sign for a Division One club.
The top wage-earners must be got rid of and as soon as possible – Sako (who we overrate anyway, even at the price Fulham offered it’s a good deal), Doyle (a non-scoring striker – let Celtic have him free in exchange for two good youngsters), O’Hara, Johnson and Ward (who is going to want these players at all? Any bid snap their hand off).
Stop bloody moaning. Let’s get behind the youngsters as they improve and they will. I’m enthused by the potential that is there in the side. Last night’s performance pulled up no trees but it didn’t consist of hit and hope. We played OK, hit the woodwork three times and got beat by a direct free-kick. So, the footballing gods hate us at the moment.
I hope all those predicting another relegation keep away from Molineux and stay away. We don’t want you here; clearly all you want is Premier League razzamatazz, something you can get off on. I’m here to support the club through thick and thin. If we have a team of players who play for the club and deserve support then I don’t give a toss which league they are playing in.
Come on you Wolves.
I’m really glad that a club can do without my money and support cause they ain’t gonna get it no more. And as you lie on your death bed you’ll be able to proudly claim that you were still supporting Wolves to the end no matter how shit the football was. I hope it gives you a great deal of pleasure.
Of course you could have watched some decent football and been entertained – after all it is supposed to be entertainment.
And best of all, I don’t have to read your bloody stupid comments any more.
If you think that was playing OK you know nothing about Football; You support the club through thick and thin – when exactly was the thick in the last thirty years ?- I missed it 0r was it you ?
Good riddance
Either you are a supporter or you aren’t. Premier League or Conference.
You clearly aren’t and never were a Wolves fan. All you ever wanted was the Glory.
Have a lovely time with your mates in the pub, discussing how Chelsea should buy Messi and Iniesta, sack Mourinho after one home drawn game against Norwich say and good luck in saving up your money to afford to attend that dream once-in-a-lifetime day out to actually watch a match live at Stamford Bridge for £75 or whatever it costs these days. What a saddo.
Meanwhile, I and all the other real Wolves fans will continue to support a real football club, not a billionaire’s play-thing international commercial brand that was once a football club.
You can’t read either. I’m following Mourinho not Chelsea. So I’m not likely to want him sacked.
I want to see decent football. And for your information I can easily afford a Chelsea season ticket if I wanted.
This ‘pferdepferde’ would be stalking. Which, while not against the law, could (depending on your enthusiasm) put you in breach of 1997 Harassment Act.
Consider it one troll looking out for another 😉
Good, go to Chelsea. Bye.
pferdepferde I agree with you.
I have to say it Kevin Porter, but your emotionally driven diatribes imply a need for therapy. You sound like a man on a coke come down.
We lost to Morecambe 1-0, we’ve been losing for so long now it is to be expected.
No big deal, whether it’s the prima donnas or the youngsters the Molineux vibration under Moxey/Morgan is losers.
I shall be interested to see how Sunderland do as they have done what I think we should have done three years ago.
It won’t make me less of a Wolves supporter.
I shall be avidly looking for our result in Division Three but I won’t be setting myself up to be emotionally shot down as you seem to be.
You need to read all other posts you disgruntled, hairbrained, pillock. YOU and ONLY YOU are saying what you are saying. You wil MOST DEFINITELY NOT be missed.
I wonder how many matches you have been to last season!
Enough to know by November that they would be relegated and back it with my hard earned cash.
How many times in your lifetime did you see them play in European Football ? Did you see the Aldershot debacle ?
Do you think this Morecambe defeat is any less of a humiliation ?
I had hoped these youngsters might stop the rot but they ain’t going to. If they can’t beat Morecambe…. and I see no reason that they will improve.
You need to look at the big picture mate – it appears you can’t!! I said everything I need to say in my previous posts, especially the one in response to Ledbury Lups after response to your 10.06 am post. I have been a Wolves fan since 1969, so not one of the many other fans who have been fans earlier, but long enough to have been involved in really really bad times. I am not a happy clapper, but I will always be a Wolves fan no matter what happens. I WILL NOT walk away. This will be my last response to your drivel, as I am now becoming as bad as you – Out!!
Forever Wolves.
Well said Steve.
I didn’t get to see the game last night but for once I agree with you, Kevin, lets stop being typical Wolves supporters, moaning at any excuse, and give these kids a chance.
We aint gonna win every match so lets stop pretending we will.
We need to get behind the team at every game, and save our hatred and vitriol for those who deserve it, not the inexperienced youngsters.
GIVE ‘EM A FUCKIN’ CHANCE!!!!
You know what? I actually agree with this!
Well that was a disappointment. I expected to see an exciting performance with the youngsters trying their hearts out to impress, after all weren’t they the nucleus of our under 21 team that apparently did so well last year. Then I had a thought. These guys have been with us for many years some from the age of 9 and 10. Given that they have been brought up in the Wolves Academy, with I guess the Wolves ethos. They have been raised throughout the McArthy era, no wonder it was more of the same, sideways movement in midfield, a pass back , a hoof up field culminating in losing the ball to the opposition defence. Leigh Griffiths is not going to win the ball, given his height. Same old, same old just different faces on the team. As for Doyle’s cameo, his first action was to go down, ok we got a free kick, which was hoofed into the box. Apart from that he was hardly involved and certainly didn’t show his experience or ‘quality’ (I know he has had little game time). Come on KJ if you want to change our fortunes, changing faces is not going to do it unless we also change the way we play. If we are to persist with the hoof it mentality, then get a target man. If we want a flowing passing game then get some creativity. Make up your mind and get the personnel required to play the way you want. Sow’s ears/ silk purse, round pegs/ square holes. If we can’t cope with 3 injuries at this stage of the season, what does it hold for Xmas time? Less than a month before transfer window closes, add Doyle and Foley to your outcast list and get some in to play the way you want.
Nonsense. That wasn’t hoof it football. If anything we played the ball too short on occassions, attempting to play one-twos through a crowd of players and losing possession.
If you can’t see a difference between this and what Saunders had us playing then I think you need to do a refresher course on the game.
Jackett is doing the right thing here. Bringing on the youngsters, getting them to play football.
If what we do is totally slag them off for not winning every match three or four nil then we’ll destroy the new green shoots that are beginning to show.
There is no difference. It’s you who is wrong. Both Saunders and KJ are managing a team of losers.
And in your own informed opinion I imagine signing Mourinho as manager would’ve solved it all. Because after all we’ve got all the money lying about…
I think Mourinho is a little too intelligent to want to work for Moxey and Morgan.
Can’t say that was the first reason that came to mind. Still, that isn’t to say your point is any less valid. And of course, I totally agree.
do you think Uniao de Leiria had money lying about when M. managed them ? But they were successful.
I have no doubt that Mourinho would make better team selection and tactical moves than any manager wolves have had in the last 20 years.
Where to begin???
Okay. Firstly I was teasing you. Second, he was at Uniao de Leiria for a year and only his second managerial post.
And thirdly, of course, if he were ever manager of Wolves he would surely make the best team selection and tactical moves, as you put it. (Can’t fault you there).
Perhaps you can try that in Football Manager and see how it works out. I’m sure everyone here is just itching to hear how that works out for you.
Well if you didn’t see Foley, Ikeme, Baath, Ebanks-Landell, Rekord and Doherty consistently hoofing the ball to Morcome’s Centre Halves then you must have seen a different game.
I think we have to accept we are unlikely to get promoted this season. It is going to take time to find out which of the youngsters can cope with league football and gradually supplementing the squad with some experience. I agree with the exile of the Johnsons and O’Hara’s of this world but we are crying out for some creativity.
Central midfield is key. Evans doesn’t look ready and Davis has been a little disaapointing. At least 1 more wide player is also needed, Sako didn’t look interested at Preston, Forde did little last night and Zeli is a useful option of the bench as at least he can actually beat his man.
I would like to see KJ go orthodox 4-4-2 with Sig and Griffiths up front. Edwards is not a supporting striker although Doyle could play there if the move to Celtic breaks down. He is one who l wouldn’t mind being retained 40k per week or not. The attack needs at least 1 experienced head and Cassidy has shown little.
The favourites tag is now looking a little ridiculous. I suspect we will be around mid table with a run towards the play offs in the latter part of the season. Making such sweeping chnages is never going to pay dividends straight away. KJ should be given 2 years whatever happens this season.
Finally all that money people keep carping on about is going into the players pockets. How much have players like O’Hara and Johnson cost this club? Poor signings from Mick l am afraid l still lay a lot of the blame at his door. He is a good championship manager no more!
I am a little perplexed that Cassidy is currently getting the call ahead of McAlinden who has looked lively and sharp whenever he’s made a short appearance.
My God, you’ve made a decent call. McAlinden is the Goal Machine not Griffiths. I hope Chelsea buy him (see above)
I doubt we’d let you near McAlinden.
Ward and Johnson however…
I can’t believe how much stock people are taking in the game last night. It was ALL kids playing. Our most senior player was Kevin Foley, playing out of position.
It demonstrates that we need more experienced players in for certain. But it also demonstrated the talent we’ve got in the younger players that just needs to be guided by more experienced, level headed players. Jackett still has time to act on this.
Can we not panic and talk about another relegation after one hard fought stalemate and one limited cup outing? Lets take the positives (In particular I thought Zeli looks very promising) and get behind the team for the next match.
And, further to that, who honestly cares about the league cup at this level anyway?
We weren’t the only big fish put out of it last night… (Brighton, Middlesborough, Wednesday, Shef United, Ipswich)
It’s like no one takes this cup seriously any more…
Absolutely right, Morph.
Perhaps we may not get promotion this year, but this team is going to get better and better. There were positives about last night – as you point out Ismail looked promising, as did Ebanks-Landell. We’ve got a whole bunch of new up-and-coming players to get excited about, let’s give them our support.
team is going to get better and better – if only because it doesn’t get much worse than losing to Morecambe
Hear hear. I agree with you wholeheartedly mate. We are only just starting, it WILL get better and we WILL succeed. UTW.
Agreed. The League Cup isn’t the priority this season. I say let’s do the double; the league title and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy!
‘pferdepferde’ moans, and talks of watching Real Madrid the last two seasons, and sure that’s lovely, but he’ll be missing out on the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy; a competition exclusive to League’s One and Two.
How far have we fallen when a first round league cup exit against the likes of Morcambe hardly comes as a surprise. We looked toothless through out something we’ve come to expect over the last few years.
It’s beggars belief we haven’t strengthened the playing squad over the summer effectively, All the clap trap from Morgan in his end of season statement was exactly that really. It’s all well and good promoting players from the academy but they need genuine help from seasoned pros something we’re severely lacking in currently.
I actually shed a tear last night, (I’d kept a stiff upper lip) after our relegation last season. But emotions got the better of me. We deserve better than the dross that has been served up the last few years, We deserve better than Morgan and Moxey who have in all effect run our beloved football club into the ground.
Keeping the faith is slowly becoming harder and harder, 5000 fan’s we took to Preston on the opening day of the season, THEY don’t deserve us and we deserve better, I only hope we can make a push for promotion but given the state of the current playing squad I fear we’ll struggle to make the play-offs.
That said we could be playing in the conference and we’d still be the biggest club in the Black Country, Our time will come again and when it does I’ll be the first in the queue to gloat at those idiot up the road.
K J was forced to play what was in large parts a reserve side and it showed.
There were some promising performances but we need re-enforcements if we are to challenge with any real chance.
Come on Mr Moxey show some real CEO credentials.
I think its important not to under estimate the size of the task ahead of us. facts don’t lie. We had one of the worse win ratio’s in the European leagues. Our old team as gone, for good or worse. Despite initial misgivings, I believe Kenny Jacket is a good pragmatic appointment. He has a good track record in developing teams, which is what we have here. Wolves have nine players from the academy playing, its a new team and its unheard of. They need time to gel but also we need experience. I thought someone like Kevin Davis, who went to Preston, would have been a great signing. Imagine the gaps he would create for Griffiths. As for Doumbia, O hara, Henry, et al well they haven’t achieved for a while and needed to go and at least their academy replacements are on the way up. I think Henry was Wolves through and through and a real gent but he needed a new challenge. At minimum we need an experienced left back, (Jack Robinson back)?? a solid no nonsense striker with experience, but the biggest problem is midfield as we don’t have one. However, maybe the biggest factor will be us the fans. this team needs time and patience. Look to the latter part of the season for a run as they get used to playing together. But we need to supplement them, is it me, or are Wolves one of the few teams that have had the fewest transactions in the loan market? I can understand permanent transfers as wolves have been in turmoil and need results and stability to attract players, but no loans, why??
Very disappointed with the result, no hiding the fact that the club is on the jacks with the wheels off. We all know who is responsible for this.
However the players are trying to do what’s asked of them and we the fans must support that. After 50 years of following Wolves I’m not fussed one bit about the Prem league truth is its crap. What I am bothered about is my team playing good attractive football at what ever level it finds itself. Last night demonstrated the uphill struggle we have but I firmly believe this team will develop into promotion contenders we just need to be patient.
At Preston I heard fans in the second half getting at the players and I was astounded. Get to the Mol on Saturday and support your team that’s what’s required now. some of us did stand in a ground falling down around us, ridiculed by all and suffering lower league football, we rebuilt and came back, Wolves will sort it but not overnight 2 games into the season!. pferdepferde Chelsea deserve you “PRICK”.
Spot on, Sussex Wolves!
Really interesting quotes from KJ this morning. First glimpse of a little bit of disharmony in the ranks between himself and the scouse prick and the fat man. ‘We need our experienced players back and to add players to put a side together for this division very quickly. We need to improve internally and externally with regard to the squad. We need to work with what we’ve got and to improve the squad and the team.’ This to me reads that KJ really isn’t happy with the conditions under which he is working. Other than being allowed to bring in Ricketts, he has received zero backing in the transfer market. It also implies that the decision to exile the senior players (rightly or wrongly) was not his and that he would rather have at least some of them in the squad than not. We really are being run by a pair of incompetent morons.
I’ll be interested to hear/read those quotes. I really hope that it WAS Jackett’s decision to exile O’Hara, Johnson and Ward from the first-team squad.
So what’s it to be, eh? Are Moxey and Morgan now to be “incompetent morons” for exiling the old guard? The club knockers can want it both ways surely. Or are we still on the “why don’t they spend millions of pounds buying up international class players” schtick.
Wolves have remained a club whose finances are well managed. We have a superb stadium, which is still called Molineux (not thank God “Sporting Bet Arena”) and is still a stone’s throw from the City Centre (not thank God located in some industrial estate off the M45).
We have many things to be thankful for, but not everything. We don’t like being in the third tier of English football. But here we are and the way up is NOT to spend huge amounts of money on “stars” who won’t turn things around.
What WILL turn things round is to place faith in the youngsters, give them time to mature and improve, not to put pressure on them to immediately deliver 4-0 tonkings to the likes of Tranmere, Swindon and Rotherham, but to HAVE PATIENCE and cheer them to the rafters for the things that do and will go well.
I happen to think that whoevers decision it was to exile the old guard was absolutely right, for footballing reasons as well as financial ones. However, the reason that M & M are incompetent morons is that they have seemed consistently incapable of organising the clubs finances in a way that have provided the manager over the last 3 seasons with a working budget capable of preventing us from freefalling through the divisions. Yes the managers and players must take their share of the blame, but ever since we went up to the prem we tried to do everything on the cheap. And this season appears to be another example that no lessons have been learned whatsoever. I’m not implying as you suggest to spend huge amounts of money on stars, but anyone with a brain can see that our present crop of youngsters are going to need supplementing with some decent, lower division, good professionals. They don’t cost the earth. Just some sensible, modest investment would really strengthen us. But here we are a week into the season and nothing. And we all know that the most we can hope for is maybe one signing and another loan if we’re lucky. Poor poor board level management. We’ll be lucky if Jackett hangs around until the end of the season unless we back him a bit more!
We have crossed swords in the past Mr Porter but I have to say that I am in total agreement with most of what you have said on this particular blog.
I’m not sure about having a pop at Ben for being angry at the lack of transfer business but you can say whatever you like to a so-called supporter who is now going to transfer his ‘loyalty’ to a Premiership team just so he can watch them win.
Loyalty in football is in short supply nowadays but I like to think that most of the people who contribute to this blog have it in spades.
I know I do, and I’m pretty sure you do too.
I’m not moving to see them win, I just want to watch decent football from either side.
Have you not gone yet? Do shut the door when you leave.
Wny would I do that when I can Haunt you ?
Trolling a troll. Oi! oi! oi! Check out my replica shirt, it’s number 11 with “Bale” on the back!!! Yeah yeah yeah! Chelsea to sign Bale for £200m I hear!!!! He’ll be 97 on Fifa 14!!!
I have got more evil things haunting me than you could ever dream of, Mr Pferdepferde.
Thanks for that theDOOGooder and I have apologised to Ben, I went too far.
Kevin,
I, like DOOGooder, have been impressed with your comments on this blog. At times some people get “over excited” and some can’t back up their statements. I wont miss that “gentlemen” when he leaves to support another club. Call that loyalty?
Just wanted to point out that although theDOOGooder’s reply is on my post above, I am NOT the fan in question who has transferred his loyalty to another team. Never, EVER! WTID!
Sorry about that mate.
Clicked on the wrong button!
Looked ok to me mate – seemed to be in the right place !
Last night, again provided us with plenty of perspiration , but sadly, no inspiration. The kids are trying their best, it’s not their fault, but sadly it’s not a job for kids alone…. We need some experience in the side, if we are paying the wages of o’hara, Johnson, ward and Doyle , then play them until the time comes when they move on…. These players might just help us get some wins and get some points on the board that might prove to be invaluable later on in the season…. Come on ” MISER MORGAN ” put your hands in your pockets and back jackett…. After all he was your choice…. And complying with whatever restrictions you have imposed on him.
Leaving out O’Hara, Johnson and to a lesser extent Ward and Henry (now sold) and to an even less extent than that Doyle is SYMBOLICALLY important.
Some have already suggested that re-including Doyle is a step in the wrong direction. I’m somewhat ambivalent. On one hand I can see that a total break from the old guard is important to maintain, but on the other calling on the experience of Doyle last night might have helped to win the tie. In the event it didn’t, Doyle had little if not no impact and perhaps McAlinden coming off the bench (had he been on it!) would have been better.
Certainly O’Hara and Johnson should never wear the shirt again, but I tend to think that both Doyle and Ward could possibly be utilised if injuries continue to blight the squad.
Doumbia, I see, has gone out on loan to Valenciennes. So there’s one wage saved.
What of Margreitter? Is the Austrian really a no-hoper? He played 60 times for Austria Vienna and is surely a better bet at centre-half than Elokobi as back up for Stearman and Batth.
Speaking of Austrians. Things could be worse, we could still have this guy upfront. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYE1BwMVP40
Stefan Maierhofer won a champions medal in Austria in 2012 and played in a decent European Campaign.
He helped A struggling Cologne side to 5th place in the 2. Bundesliga last season.
Had Wolves given him a decent run in the team they might not be where they are now.
Good to see that they don’t need decent international players because they are doing so well
Utter tosh.
Can someone get this guy a taxi?
What does pferdeoferde even mean?
TAXI !!!
oops spelt wrong!!! stoopid name anyway lol
Wish these posts were numbered so you can refer to them easier. I am sure they used to be? Any opinions?
dipshit speak for pedophile,maybe
Dont know if it’s just me Clive, but I get quite riled when a moran comes on, disses the club as he does with threats about going away to support some other club and/or manager. I do not like disloyalty, I do not like it one bit!
Hope all is well in Houston.
And Jagellionia Bialystok have retired Polish international Tomasz Frankowski’s No. 21 shirt he was that much of a legend at the club. And Sami Al-Jaber played 163 times for Saudi Arabia and 305 for his club Al-Hilal.
We could have been a Champions’ League side at this rate. And you would have been happy to watch us all the time.
Mind you, perhaps you are right, Maierhofer looked pretty classy in that Latvia game.
Ah yes. The qualifying rounds for the Champions League, far too lowly and insignificant for our beloved friend with the unpronouncable name.
No, what he wants is televised matches and adverts and pundits and Continental tyres heading the ball!!!!
A few observations after watching the game on TV:
1. Morecambe were missing half their first choice outfield players;
2. They are third favourites for relegation to the Conference;
3. They got more, and better, crosses into the box in the second half than WWFC managed in the entire game; and
4. Their set pieces were considerable more dangerous than ours.
On balance they deserved to win.
On the other hand:
1. The average of the WWFC team was just 21;
2. The oldest outfield player, Foley, was the most anonymous and least effective;
3. Batth and Ebanks-Landell looked solid defensively and played with a lot of heart;
4. The fullbacks cannot cross the ball well enough and Rekord looked out of his depth;
5. The ‘wingers; cannot cross the ball well enough though Ismail briefly showed some promise at the beginning of the second half. They both wanted to cut inside rather than get to the bye-line which may be the ‘modern’ way but just congests the midfield and box;
6. The midfield lacked any sort of composure or creativity. This is absolutely nothing new;
7. If you are going to throw high balls towards the forwards then Griffiths needs a Dougan-style figure to flick the ball on or down to him;
8. Otherwise Griffiths wants the ball on the ground and out in front and, therefore, requires a midfielder with an eye for a through ball or wingers getting past fullbacks and crossing low rather than high;
8. If Doyle is likely to go why was he put on in preference to McAlinden about whom one has heard good things?
9. Without Sigurdarson the teams lacks pace.
On balance, there are some promising elements (i.e. central defence), youth is getting its long overdue chance, many ‘old regime’ players have been cleared out (though not the chief culprits) which must make some space in the wage bill – BUT further investment is needed: left back, creative midfield, wideman/men. Understand that the first choice team was not playing but this game underlines the thinness of the squad and that reinforcements (with experience) are now essential. We will not be promoted with the current squad.
This is truly more of the usual, really enough has been said.
I do believe KJ is an inteligent man and my only shred of hope is that he has decided to show management just how short of experience and talent we are. Moxey and Co seem to beleive the youngsters and current squad can do the bus in Div 3. Last night KJ showed them that they could not beat a bad Div 4 reserve team. My only positive thought is that he decided to show them otherwise while his job is still safe.
My friends if we do not get some steel and experience in the backbone we are done for.
If all the changes were forced then why not use some of the toxic trio, we are paying their wages. Yes I really dont want to see them in old gold again but….
This stuff about it only being the cup is BS if you dont want to win dont enter.
My optimism is quickly disolving into realism. I have a gut feeling that KJ maynot see out the season of his own accord.
This is my response to an earlier post from Ledbury Lupus. I am copying this again to see what response I get (if any) from our most loyal supporter pferdepferde!!
Well I’m feeling better already. No more suffering.
I’ve got tickets for Saturday unfortunately – but for once I can see a match at Molineux and not care about the result.
Gillingham are really bad (I’ve seen their games) – worse than MorEcambe. If Wolves don’t win this one…. I’ll increase my bet on them to be relegated – currently 66/1
Urgh…’unfortunate’ for anyone seated either side, in front of or behind you, I think.
Weren’t you meant to sod off to Stamford Bridge instead?
thought I’d do comedy before the serious stuff
I was absolutely furious last night and I assume I do not need to explain why.
After attempting to read some of the comments that have been made on here recently, my only suggestion is that not only should some of these people be banned from Molineux permanently but also that if they are seen within five hundred yards of the club they should be arrested!
so you too don’t see that the club needs all the supporters it can get ?
Enjoy watching the youngsters crumble and the financial rules catch up next season.
You stink of UKIP.
Are you volunteering to be the lone arbiter of which comments are deemed acceptable and which are not, and if so ought to be banned from home matches?
Also, you assume wrong. Explain why you were “absolutely furious”?
O nly just managed to plan my work schedule today, and not wanting to
U pset the wife, I believe, if I can secure tickets, that I will be able to travel
T o see 15 matches this season.
O kay, not a lot really, but at least I can get to some. Travelling distance has made it
F easible for me to get to more away games than ever before – MK Dons here I come!!
D epending upon the ticket availablity will see me off to the Away game at Port Vale
A nd the Home game against Sheff Utd. Away to Carlisle and Bradford in October and
R oaring down to Notts County and Peterborough in November. In December I will
K now if I can get to Rotherham followed by Tranmere and Oldham in January. The
N ext match will hopefully be at Home to Notts County in February and then I will
E ventually get to see Sheff Utd at their place in March. The same month I will go and
S ee MK Dons, then Crewe and Coventry Away in April. My final fixture will be on
S aturday 5th May against Carlisle which will see us promoted as Champions.
Not a season ticket holder – what sort of supporter are you ?
Mr Porter won’t like that.
I assume you’ve had a big bet at 7/2 that Wolves will be champions then ?
pferdepferde I agree with you.
All this ‘your only a supporter if’ is nonsensical dogma.
There is no point being so emotionally charged in an opinion as Mr Porter.
It is only an opinion.
We are a team much more likely to lose than win and to invest too much hope in such an outfit is emotional sadism.
Football is changing and the Premiership consists of those in the European League and those who are not. Bale and Suarez being considered ‘European signings’.
Wolves are in a sort of free fall and such dealings are light years away from the reality of probably not winning against Gillingham…
What I am having problems understanding is – how could we have an academy, while in the Championship and Premier League, where the players are not even good enough for League 1?
These are not all 18 year olds, they are at an age where they should be able to play at a lower league successfully, and since we were two leagues higher just two seasons ago, that is where we are now.
Looks like our academy was just for show and very weak.
Yes, that’s the attitude. Let’s ignore what these players have done at youth level and while loaned at other clubs…and instead make an assumption of epicly ignorant proportions based on one game.
Sorry, but if they can’t beat a League 2 team, then they weren’t even close to being ready to play in the Premiership.
For the most part, they will go nowhere in professional football.
They were never in the fold when we were in the Premiership. However, now we’re in League One, we haven’t had a better time to make use of these younger players.
It’s absurd that you say they will go nowhere in professional football. Sounds like you’re just pissed off at something else, entirely unrelated and it was wasteful slur.
How much lower are ticket prices this year compared to two seasons ago?
Thomas,
Is there a process for banning any disloyal and irritably obnoxious morons from this site? I am sure you have the power to either warn them or get rid!!! A name springs to mind but I can’t pronounce it!
I can its – Steve L Biles.
Nothing like curbing freedom of speech
Wow…didn’t think I would get to the bottom of this page, lots of slating going on, most people do realise this was only the second game of the season don’t they??
I was disappointed with the result last night, definitely thought we should be winning a game like that, daft to say it doesn’t matter, winning breeds confidence, any win is always welcome, even in friendlies, however I was also happy to see the team sheet, for the last 2-3 seasons we have all at some time moaned about the overpaid senior players standing in the way of our youth team coming through, so to see so many of the Wolves youth make the pitch last night was something that actually got me quite excited.
I think they all tried, some perhaps too much, and that may have showed, for anyone who has played the game knows, sometimes you can run yourself into the ground but have one of the worst games of your life, but as this was only the second game of the season I would expect gradual improvement from each and every one of them, and in some cases, massive improvement across the season.
I do think we need a calming influence in midfield though, someone to just put there foot on the ball, pick a pass and not kick and rush when things are not going to plan, problem is there aren’t many of those types of players willing to drop to league 1 from above, so its down to the scouts to look below as we aren’t going to dish out loads of cash…the lad who popped up with the winner came from no league last season, I think at this level there are more of his type that could do more than a job if given the chance?
Onto Saturday, I think the sickness will clear up and Sigi and Sam will return, not sure about the injuries though, I expect a few more butterflies from the young lads playing in front of a half full (hopefully more) Molinuex but hopefully the longer the game goes on and the more the fans get behind them the more of an improvement we will see.
UTW
ive never seen so many posts in one day !! even santa would be shocked
I was pleased to see the lads from our youth set up get a game. But appalled that our youth system seems to produce players incapable of doing the simple things well.
Too often we looked long straight down the middle rather than keeping possession and calming the game down. If you have to go long its basic football 101 that if you haven’t got big strikers put the ball into the channels for them to compete with the full backs and use their pace. We gave possession away cheaply, allowed pressure on and allowed morcambe to dictate game for large parts of the game!
anyone for tennis ?….or a beer-chill out folks and give it time it will come right- oh and moxey out !
Anyone seen the interview with Dullwell? With him, Pieman and Bob the Builder no
wonder we are asking the cubs to do a mans job.
there lies the problem alf…. but how to get rid is anyones guess. whatever happens though id rather these young lads giving it everything and loving pulling on the old gold in the third tier than the useless muppets from last season….don’t you just love wheres wally alf ?
I was stunned to hear him say he had spent, what was it 8/10 hours interviewing. My God so much time for probably the most importantant appointment in years. I was expecting more like 30/40 hours. These slips just prove they had a special short list of people who would do as told.
Moxeys BS is not woth wasting my ears on.
Really tantalising mix of promise and disappointment on display in my opinion. And I think it’s going to typify our season. I think we need to be ready for a season where one week we get Griffiths Sako and Siggy firing on all cylinders and Batth/Ricketts/EEB/Stears holding everything together at the back; then the next week see the midfield devoid of ideas for 90 minutes – a scenario we’re all too used to.
The truth is exactly how Thomas put it, our midfield youngsters are talented and may go far, but may not go very far without an experienced taskmaster pulling them through this season. Griffiths is a cut above this league IF the links in the chain aren’t weak. Batth & co have so far proved reasonably solid (always upheld that Batth is a future top half PL centre half) but it’s no good if there’s nothing solid linking the back 4 and Sako/Sig/Griff up front.
Someone like Danny Murphy would be perfect in my eyes, providing he’s got the hunger for league one. A shadow of what he used to be, but knows exactly how to drag a team through the game, creative, can score penalties (not that we get any of those anyway) and could almost act like a second captain. Whether we could even tempt him Wolverhamptonwards is another thing, or whether he’s interested in moving.
On the topic of Murphy’s, we may find ourselves licking our wounds over our failure to capture Luke Murphy.
I’m remaining optimistic, as I always am. Just think about when we won the championship in 08/09. Drew away at Plymouth and got knocked out the cup to Accy Stanley.
Up The Wolves!
Dont want to say i told you so but i will. In my busy summer posting said Jackett had job from day one – said he hasnt made any of the big decisions – said he wont be happy and wont be suited to the role he has been given of
just developing the young players.
Just come to say HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Cannot wait till you go down again.
Cant blame you for reading our blog mate – a real football club with passionate fans.
what really shocks me is that she can spell…must have done some good the 6 years at school in the unit ….bless her little cotton socks x
same fans who sent about 300 down to morecambe? joke club, joke fans hope you get liquidated the place is a fookin shitehole
bless the little fella ……we must be far more interesting eh..we must really have got under your skin – I know , they miss us !
Alright goldy thought your old dad had come off his medication. There is no precedent in human history so refusing to believe it. Toasting you with closest thing i got to a hobgoblin (which aint that close to be honest).
I read that Chimbonda is playing for Morcambe so he can keep fit.
Isn’t he a full back with experience?
Gotta be cheap Jez, get your cheque book (sorry VisaCard), out!
Just spent an hour reading your blogs boys, come on lets give kj a few games before we start to groan again,a lot of whats been said on this blog rings true. We must give the kids a chance and get behind the team.
The main culprits are Moxey n Morgan and they hold the purse strings so for me its ALL their fault why we’re in this f–kin mess.money needs to be spent on player’s NOW and like I’ve said don’t wait until its to late.UTW FOJM.
Can we stop, reflect and spare a thought for Waggy. Here we are debating the merits of playing a bunch of kids when we have lost a true Wolves legend. Oh for a player of Waggy’s class now eh.
It is a long way back and we need to get used to the it. We are not a big club anymore, we haven’t been since Waggy’s era if we are honest. The sooner we all realise this the better.
Thought I’d stumbled this morning on the ‘Express and Star’ blog by mistake.
Presumably Mr Teflon-Yomex is suffering similar indigestion after overdosing on shrimp sandwiches and shrimp pastries ?
Zero-hours contract for Mr Yomex please.
G ood morning people. Having had a very good nights sleep I am now
I n my office thinking about my responses to some posts yesterday which
L ed to banter turning into something incorrigible. I do not normally
L et my heart rule my head and I wish to take this opportunity to appoligise
I f I offended ANYONE in any way. We all love the club, that is why we are
N ow on here instead of doing some work (well that’s me anyway). I am
G oing to try to get to as many games as I can this season and I really do
H ope that we come good. It is early days yet, and I feel the club need us to
A ssist them by supporting them as best as we can. Only time will tell if we
M anage to pull ourselves back out of the rut we find ourselves in.
N ow that I feel better for getting that off my chest, I just want to say that
E verything will turn out alright in the long term. But, we will have to wait until
X mas before we really do know where we are going to be next Season.
T hat is obviously just my opinion, and I do respect everyone has an opinion.
‘I f I offended ANYONE in any way’
I’m assuming that doesn’t include me
Of course it does pferdepferde. My apology is extended to ANYONE I may have offended yesterday. Sorry. By the way, are you willing to tell me what your “title” means?
Its german for HorseHorse. I use it as it is unique to most websites. German works well for passwords too. Makes them difficult to guess. Just looks like a stream of letters to most people.
Thanks. Interesting. I may consider changing mine to brattybratty or pommespommes or something more appropriate to me like BittenocheinBier lol. I thought horse was Pferd though without an ‘e’ on the end?
probably but misspelling things makes them even harder to guess!! I think pferde is plural
Just my thoughts. I do not know if I spelt Another Beer Please correctly. I left Germany in 1998 and couldn’t say much then lol.
Being on honeymoon with Katherine Jenkins and making her watch this match may not have been the best idea. She mumbled something about “It’s them or me” whilst she was in the kitchen getting my beer and cooking my dinner.
Only later, after a lovely ‘full-body’ massage, did she understand the true meaning of love.
I doubt she will be able to ride a horse for a couple of days….
lol.
Start as you mean to go on. Today is my 32nd Wedding Anniversary mate and I have not changed.
But …………. I feel you are not saying it exactly as it is!!
UTW
Sevlow – please tell me who you score your mind altering drugs from.
I could do with some, I don’t think mine are quite strong enough!
Ah theDOOGooder – unfortunately my mind altering medicine is strictly controlled though they mostly consist of black magic and powerful ju-ju from the deepest jungles in Africa. Sorry must go now I have to feed my unicorn….
is that a one wheeled bike sevy my old hippy ?
Jez Moxey: We will beef up Wolves squad with new signings
iNTERESTING STATEMENT!! I wait with bated breath!
This new statement from the Billy Bunter of the football world really does take the biscuit.
“You can never tell whether something is going to happen sooner or later but we are aware of the need to strengthen the squad – and we will do so.”
“We’re pushing on with our own plans to recruit regardless at the moment.”
“We’ve made clear how we intend to go forward from here and we’re not suddenly going to change that strategy.”
He really doesn’t have a clue does he?
He doesn’t have a clue does he?
Sod it! Sod it! Sod it!
Read the blog before you post it, you plonker!
I really don’t have a clue do I?
lol. I’ve done that numerous times mate. You are right – he states the obvious, so obvious that we all realised that fact yonks ago. He doesn’t have a clue at all!!!
by beefing it up I think we can be assured that will be the filling in the latest van of pies moxey has signed for at the tradesmans entrance this morning- cant we sign him up for im a fat barstard get me out of here ..just a thought 🙂
Another example of Billy Bunter’s prowess.
Wolves wanted £4m for Sako.
Fulham apparently offered £2.5 plus incremental add-ons for appearances etc.
Moxey said no.
Fulham drop out of the bidding and now I read he could be on his way to Forest for £2m.
Well done!
Of course if we do sell him, it will be an undisclosed fee so we’ll never know.
All our fees seem to be undisclosed…wonder why that is?
I read there was a fee plus player deal on the cards … whilst i dont want to see sako go, a swap deal is likely to be the only way we’ll get players coming the other way.
It’s all a smoke screen, Come the 1st of September we’ll be told that we couldn’t get any of our intended targets ect ect, Same old crap different transfer window.
Talking to JM this afternoon over the odd glass of tears, extracted from selected Dodos from my farm in orbit around the planet Zog, and feasting upon freshly roasted leg of Dodo, I explained that it was time to get out his diamond encrusted Amex card and buy a player or two. This will happen shortly so expect some tasty signings over the next week or two.
One was nearly completed this afternoon but on hearing there were no Nectar points up for grabs JM has vetoed the deal.
Please don’t give up hope. I have slipped a magic potion into his drink which will see him loosen the financial belt that has been strangling this club slowly to death.
that will be a bloody big belt then !
AN ABSOLUTE SHIT SHOCKING START TO THE SEASON…
I expected us to see off both Preston and Morecombe with ease…
3 Points are now an absolute must on Saturday…
Who would of thought our 2nd league match of the season was a must win..
Folks let me remind you we are no longer just light years behind the Shit as a footballing team we are now falling short of the mighty Walsall…
Jackett needs to sort this shit out and fast cos after the last 2 seasons patience is not something we have much of…
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!! Jackett OUT!!!
I don’t really care about what’s happening at Wolves currently. This week has seen the passing away of another of the 60s/70s vintage – Dave Wagstaffe. The 70s for those of you who rememnber had plenty of wingers knocking about, despite Sir Alf’s apparent dislike of them! There was Eddie Gray at the filthy Leeds, Willie Johnston at the Shite, Jimmy Johnstone at Celtic, etc. But we had one of the best in Waggy. Pure footballing talent. Great feet, got past players, great crosser of a ball and excellent vision too. He was simply brilliant! And it just so happens he played in a great team at what I think was a great time in English footballing history – the early 70s. Molinuex back then was a place that raised the hairs on the back of you neck each time you walked up the stairs from beneath the stands and caught that first glimpse of the ground and the pitch! A simply magical place and Waggy graced it with such wonderful footballing ability and no little tenacity. He was part of that team that had many of my all time favourite Wolves players. Sadly many have passed away recently – Doog, Frank Munro and now Waggy joins them. Very saddened Wolves fan here. Very sad indeed. RIP Waggy.
Make no mistake Walsall will turn us over big style. I am getting money on them to beat us so at least I will have something to soften the blow.
This transfer policy has last minute dot com written all over it. We will end up with a pile of crap that no one else wants or Jacket will have to bring O’hara in from the cold to add some experience to a very young side.
I feel a shambles coming on. Hope I am wrong.
Having watched Wolves against Preston last Saturday and again on tv against Morecambe one thing stands out more than anything…lack of experience. When are the Wolves bosses going to put their hands in their pockets and spend some cash on players. Its all very well having a luxurious ground which must be the best in Div 1, but without players Wolves just look pathetic. They have some excellent youngsters in Ismail, Batth and Ebanks-Landell but without experience to help them along it’s no good. Now why are so many fans saying this and nobody at the top is listening. Before we know it the transfer window will be closed and the team will have to struggle on as best they can….or worse still, no players will want to join Wolves anyway because they are doing so badly. I had a good feeling when they played so well in their friendlies, but it was a big disappointment at Morecambe. Here’s hoping the powers that be wake up and smell the coffee!
Also, meant to say a fond farewell to Waggy who I watched from the South Bank as a teenager with my school friends. His speed and passing was brilliant alongside Terry Wharton, Ernie Hunt, The Doog and Peter Knowles…a great forward line. Exciting football and a pleasure to watch. We could do with them now.
Condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.
RIP Waggy.
Oops, pressed the button by mistake. Oh look, that’s the 200 up!
