If there’s one sure-fire way to wind up Mick McCarthy in an instant, simply tell him his team are a bunch of ‘heroic failures.’
He hates it apparently.
Not half as much as Wolves fans hate him picking the wrong team once again by ignoring Adlene Guedioura for yet another week.
So we’re all pretty hacked off that we were heroic failures in a narrow defeat at Anfield then?

One hundred million pounds worth of Dalglish signings should consign the very notion of ‘regret’ to the dustbin, particularly when playing on their own patch in front of 40,000 supporters.
But that’s the overriding emotion that every right minded fan who saw us thump Millwall 5-0 must be feeling, when they’ve seen a meagre 10 minutes from the Algerian and none whatsoever from Adam Hammill.
Mick even admitted Dave Edwards wasn’t fit afterwards, saying: “Maybe he needed a bit more because he’s terrific in that position when he’s fully fit.’
So why play him when every single one of us inside Molineux on Tuesday night wouldn’t have?
When supporting a club that smugly pats itself on the back for a lack of summer investment, the prospect of defeat is regularly acknowledged beforehand, such are the levels of on-field aspiration.
Such is life in the Premier League.
So when the manager proceeds to pick a team that immediately stood less chance of winning than picking other options available to him, the increasing monotony of failure sticks in the craw – no matter how bloody heroic it is.
The levels of despondency really should not escalate too much after this loss but for some perverse reason mine are sky high, even as I recall our magical Fulham showing only a few weeks ago.
The reason? That a bottom six finish is most probably the best we should realistically expect, just like we’ve been told to expect for the previous two years.
Defeat hurts, no matter who it is against. It has ruined another weekend, has consigned MOTD to the dustbin and will now act as a precursor for seven days of meaningless E & S platitudes ahead of the next match, as we are all told about ‘improvement’, ‘hard luck’ and ‘togetherness.’
And all the while, us obsessive, congenital fanatics will hang on every word, before Jez Moxey slags us off for watching it in the local bowling club instead of forking out £42 for the privilege.
That’s showbiz folks.
As for our latest defeat…
…It was a game of two halves! Showed nothing in the first 45 minutes, although extremely unlucky to concede the opener when Johnson was clearly fouled by Carroll in the build-up to Adam’s shot that went in off Johnson.
Before that we had started brightly enough, although ref Kevin Friend was hellbent on booking any Wolves player who dared breath in the vicinity of a red shirt.
The outstanding Suarez –who I was relieved to come off – bagged a beauty of a second, even if Hennessey shouldn’t have made a near post effort find the back of the net so easily.
The second half was miles better following the introduction of Fletcher and he gave us all hope with a rasping finish that looks increasingly beyond Doyle.
Doyle then chose the wrong option when a simple cut back would have surely provided Fletcher with his second shortly afterwards as we enjoyed 15 minutes of dominance.
But even during that period, Carroll hit the post and Downing was put clean through only for Wayne to rescue us.
They had other chances too, although Doherty looked really encouraging off the bench as a replacement for Stearman.
Would we have lost if Mick had have chosen differently?
Possibly not.
Is defeat genuinely driving him, Moxey and Jez Morgan to searing levels of distraction and irritation like it is me right now?
I bloody well hope so.

I understand he had a good performance on tuesday, but I have to disagree re Guedioura – he constantly turns into players, over runs the ball, and whilst appearing to be a battler, seems to me to be no more than a headless chicken. I agree though that he should have been given any opportunity before Edwards. Also feel very sorry for Hammill who should have been given a chance (ahead of Kites), and be at least first replacement.
So agree and disagree. Still think the team MM picked played well, Karl had a decent game today for all those of you that wear blinkers. Showed more composure than Johnson, who’s looking a little nervy but then you would against a 60m strikeforce.
+1.
I don’t see Guedi as the immediate need in the team either.
Certainly we need Fletcher back in fully fit; we have to respect MM in his assessment that he wouldn’t last 90 mins. That said, he made an immediate impact and bodes well for a return to 4-4-2 next weekend.
I’d love to see Hammill given a run – in the same way that younger players get the opportunity at Everton.
Also, am I alone in questioning O’Hara’s current contribution – wasteful, conceeds possession… Bring in Milijas instead.
So can we all concede that the Carling Cup is the most meaningless competition on the domestic fixture list then? It has to be if players that were head and shoulders above anything else, who can skin 3 defenders and lay one on a plate before smashing in a 30 yarder, STILL don’t get a look in.
What’s the point in paying hard earned money to watch this competition (wonder what Moxey will put admission at for Man City? £30?)
What is the point in competing, of impressing, of winning, of genuinely aspiring to play, if the manager ignores such contributions?
Maybe Adlene can do the same against Man City…It might earn him a loan move to the New Den.
And all along, it is the fans that suffer (well, me and 7,000 stupid enough to watch us in the Carling Cup) because the only two players I’d pay my hard earned money to see play will never get a look in.
So with all that in mind I’ll watch it down the pub where the double dip recession won’t bite so savagely.
Oh yeah. Forgot. I’m not allowed to do that as Jez the Capitalist (who gave himself a £2.1 million bonus in 2003 alone) demands I pay yet more money to fill those worrying empty seats. Is 25 years not enough Jez? Is £42 at Anfield not enough?
George Orwell has f**k all on what is going on at Molineux right now.
I agree totally with you Ben.
After Milwall, Hammill should have started a head of Jarvis.
If he had been bad, he could have changed them around.
Why, oh why, Edwards before Guedioura or Milijas?
There is no logic in it and it makes no sense, which is nonsense.
I can only think Morgan is either brainless or has financial problems otherwise he’d get a new manager.
I feel for the players, who would improve under another, {any}, new manager in my opinion.
Well ben you sound well pissed off m8,got to agree with you about his team
selections looks like job for the boys again, no matter how bad they played
against QPR,he still picks them.what do they have to do the players who played so well against millwall.God only knows,
We’er sinking fast i’m afraid.Thats 1 out of 12 points,thats blown our great
start out of the water. He’s still got to go McIdiot,as said we have the players here but they need to be played when they do well and not sit on the bench
and rot.
I understand Jarvis had a good game. I agree Hammill is a good player who’s sitting on the bench, but I don’t think Jarvis or Hunt have done anything to warrant being dropped.
MM’s stubborn that way, isn’t he?
I missed the game, but by the sounds of it we were never out of it and gave Liverpool a good fight…
That being said, I’m desperate for 3 points next Saturday – we have the skill to do it!
Have yet to see the game, but from all accounts, another glorious failure, coz of wrong team and wrong tactics.
Parrot, parrot, parrot.
Dying to see the excuses this time…we improved over last week, well that wasn’t difficult to do was it, we battled hard, we put in the fuckin’ shift and all the other bollocks that brainless fuckin’ manager we’ve got continually spouts.
The bottom line… we fuckin’ lost again, and are now seriously in danger of falling down the league faster than a whores drawers.
Enough is fuckin’ enough McCarthy …..
FUCK OFF NOW.
Can’t get as worked up as you guys for this one sorry. 2-1 at Liverpool is no disaster it just feels worse after QPR.
Also can’t get as angry about the Edwards thing. He’s done well for us in the 451 before (e.g. scoring in win vs City) and ran his socks off in the Chelsea victory. His last Prem game was the 4-0 vs Blackpool and he made a scoring return in the week.
He’s not the most skilful but my god we’ve missed his energy out there with Henry and O’Hara trudging round the midfield so it’d be a shame if he’s the new scapegoat.
Expect that on Saturday we’ll be back to the XI that won the first two anyway.
But Adam, I’m not doubting he’s done well in a 4-5-1 and, if you read my report from Tuesday, I said I’d have no problem in him playing if Mick chose him, but…Mick admitted afterwards he wasn’t bloody fit!!!! He said so himself.
If that’s the case, why not immerse him into first team life more gently?
No scapegoating here mate. Never would do as I love Edwards. Pretty shoddy treatment of the player by Mick IMO, not me. Does Gerrard get thrown straight back in by Dalglish?
Read the rating on my Millwall blog.
I clearly said that throwing Edwards into first team action after so long out was – and I quote – throwing him in at the deep end.
That’s me. A failed Sunday league player who, in the grand scheme of things, knows absolutely nothing about football.
But the man with the coaching badges and international managing experience thinks otherwise. And gues what… The game completely passes Edwards by. And yet again, I am proved right. Don’t even get me started on Hammill.
So yet again, a decision that any old ‘nugget’ would never have made was made. (Not least knowing all the way through this process that Edwards wasn’t even fit in the first place)
Losing is one thing.
Stubborn, belligerent twattish selections is another.
Like I say though, I give a shit about losing.
Fair comment I guess.
If the rumours are to believed then Hammill’s non-selection has little do with football anyway.
What do the rumours suggest the real reason to be?
You’d better send in your cv to Jez then…
I can’t understand why fans reckon we played so well in the second half. Sure, we had more possession and fired in a few crosses, but did Reina have any saves to make after Fletcher’s goal? We’re brilliant at knocking the ball around the middle and the back, but where is the penetration and cutting-edge?
Liverpool should have been 5-1 up after about 70 minutes, such was our ‘brilliant’ second-half display. Granted, we were chasing the game and leaving more space at the back, but it was hardly a dazzling performance after the interval.
What frustrates me most is Mick’s poor tactics and team selection (alluded to in Ben’s article) and his arrogant assessment during the transfer window that the squad was good enough. No Mick, it wasn’t then and it isn’t now. We still don’t have a good left back, any competition for Karl Henry or a fit striker other than Fletcher who can score.
Mick also arrogantly claimed his team could, and I emphasise the ‘could’, finish anywhere up to 12th. If that doesn’t highlight his misguidedness and complete ineptitude then I don’t know what does. So a team that adds just ONE outfield player to a squad which scraped survival by the smallest margin possible can scale the heights of mid-table? No Mick, no.
But hey ho, because the squad is so good we can afford to spunk money on increasing Molineux’s capacity when we can’t even fill the stadium now. And the drop in attendances is clearly the fault of all those scheming pub landlords that show matches ‘illegally’. Clearly, it has nothing to do with forcing ‘punters’, as we’re no doubt referred to by the Jez and the board, to pay GBP40 each week for the privilege of watching a side that can’t attack, defend or play decent football of any note.
I don’t know why you keep banging on about how we need a left-back when Ward has been brilliant in that position so far!
And the fact is, Liverpool weren’t 5-1 up after 70- minutes – partly due to good luck and partly due to Hennessey.
I agree Ward has been good at left-back, but what concerns me is the lack of cover for that position. We saw against QPR that when shifting Ward up front, Big George clearly isn’t up to the task of filling in.
Irrespective of the scoreline, we still lost yesterday after defending poorly and offering very little in attack (Reina was largely a spectator, despite us having more possession in the second half).
The Tottenham game aside, we’ve created few chances in our last four matches while shipping seven goals. Let’s hope we fare better in October.
Completely agree with cover for left-back now – hadn’t thought about it that way!
3 points from Newcastle would be ideal, and we can probably get a draw against West Brom as well – probably even a win looking at their game vs Fulham!
Wins against Newcastle and West Brom would undoubtedly make everything rosy again. Hell, I might even admit McCarthy knows a thing or two about managing in the Premier League should we take six points from those fixtures. Go on Mick, force me and all the other detractors to eat humble pie.
Edited your last line Rob:
‘Go on Mick, force me and all the other detractors to eat humble pie once again.’
My pie is completely untouched this season, and looks to be going mouldy with non use.
It’s a win-win for me if Mick does prove me and all his other critics wrong, Louie, but I doubt he will.
We’re not playing well, with few shots on target and just one goal in four games. Mick often gets it wrong tactically (we’ve lost on several occasions having played 4-4-2 against a three-man midfield – a lesson that McCarthy has yet to learn).
As Ben pointed out, the manager also admitted to playing Edwards when he wasn’t fit – this when we have other midfielders that wouldn’t get a game even if the whole squad were suddenly struck down by food poisoning.
We lack craft and penetration going forward, with O’Hara, Hunt and Jarvis largely anonymous in recent matches. So why not change the personnel and give Milijas and Hammill (someone who can actually cross a ball) a go? What message does it send to the squad when Mick persists with players out of form?
And why keep persisting with Doyle, a player who has a poor goal scoring record at this level? In his first season, Doyle was fantastic at holding the ball up and bringing the wingers into play, but he can’t even offer us that anymore.
I’ve lost count of how many times Doyle mis-controlled a pass or easily lost possession in recent matches. If we’re playing 4-4-2, I’d rather we stick Fletcher and Ebanks-Blake together up front, as they look more effective together than Fletcher and Doyle. I’d even consider giving Fletcher or Ebanks-Blake (when fit) a run out as the lone striker in a 4-5-1, such is the poor form of the goal-shy Kevin Doyle.
I appreciate the job Mick has done in getting us promoted and keeping us up twice (albeit by the skin of our teeth last season), but is he really good enough to establish Wolves as a Premier League club that’s not constantly fighting to stay up? No is the answer, in my opinion.
I’m with Clive on this one – we won’t be choking on humble pie anytime soon.
What i want to know is, why are the critics of the team the only ones expected to apologise when the team proves them wrong? How about the happy clappers who think caring about their club means supporting everything the incumbent manager and players do. How about a little bit of contrition every we time we get outplayed by trhe likes of Blackburn or QPR for example.
I completely agree with pretty much everything you said Ben. Despite all the positives at Molineux these days, or moe likely because of them, i find this one of the most frustrating times i can remember. You feel we could be really quite good but, at the same time, we never will be.
We are hardworking but terribly predictable with very little cutting edge, largely because the flair players can’t get in the team.
Our free kicks in dangerous positions were clueless. Compare that with Hammill’s masterclass in the week.
Doyle, for all his other attributes, can’t see a simple assist never mind score a goal. And dear old Karl, great athlete and all that but oh dear, can’t even lob a simple ball back into the box.Straight ot for a goal kick.
Our attacks lack incisiveness, tempo or conviction. We just go through the motions. We don’t look like we expect to score.
People say it was a hard game, Liverpool away, but i thought they looked a pretty poor side and were there for the taking. I don’t see them challenging this year.
Ultimately, we are short on class and we need some extra flair within the coaching team as well as on the pitch.
Good blog. Agreed.
Still kicking myself that we got nothing out of that game. I thought Liverpool were nothing special. Some of their marquee signings look ordinary. Henderson was anonymous in midfield, and Charlie Adam looked pedestrian – a shadow of his former Blackpool self. Despite that, with 5 in midfield in the 1st half, we looked even worse!
Still, after they’d gone 1-0 up, I muttered ‘get Fletch on’ to myself, and after 2-0 I was shouting it at the TV screen. Pity MM took so long to ‘sort’ it. In the second half of course, we more than held our own.
Now, of all the squad, I am most concerned about Doyle’s form. He’s not shooting, he’s not heading. He’s just holding the ball up (OK he does that ever so well, but crikey, we need him to do more than just that, don’t we?).
Totally agree with you about Adlene mate. Every time the guy gets the ball I get the feeling something could happen. True, it could be that he loses it, but just as likely he’ll burst forward and have a pop, which as we saw against Millwall can come off quite nicely. He puts himself about as well. We saw what a difference he can make at the end of last season. Come on Mick, give the lad a game!
Strange decision from Mick on Edwards. I’m sure each case needs to be judged on its own merits, but particularly as Jarvis, Fletcher and Hunt have all had to settle for a place on the bench in recent weeks after returning from injury.
Agree though, in a 4-5-1 when hes properly fit he’ll be a real asset for us.
What would have happened if we’d have started with Fletcher and Guedioura? We’ll never know, but to throw Edwards in at Anfield so all after injury is ridiculous. Fletcher can play alone up front and works hard enough. Why was our goal threat unfairly dropped? Good second half effort from the boys, Hennesey was good despite letting one in at the near post. Johnson was stupid for me, fouled or not and looked unconvincing a couple of times.
David Moyes for manager,he would sort out our players,he’s pissed off at
Everton,no money, but saying that would he get any here..
Agree with some of the points made in the blog Ben, but I do feel this is somewhat of an overreaction.
It’s easy to criticise the selection of Edwards in hindsight, but after the QPR debacle McCarthy had to change the system, and Edwards is probably our best central attacking midfielder to use in this system. Similarly, suggesting McCarthy should have arranged the team differently from the start is an easy argument to make given the change in performance that resulted from half-time alterations. However, I don’t think many people would have argued with 4-5-1 before the game began.
Whilst Guedioura performed well in midweek, this was against a dis-interested championship team, not really a comparable opposition to Liverpool at Anfield.
I don’t want this to be interpreted as completely supportive of the current management, as there are some flaws that it is impossible to argue against. McCarthy’s loyalty to certain players, whilst useful in forging a good dressing room, has definitely limited the progress you’d hope to have seen by our third premiership season.
However, a 2-1 defeat away at Anfield courtesy of a lucky deflection is hardly a disaster. As somebody has already stated, two results in our next couple of games is definitely possible, and things would look much brighter then!
I’m sorry but I can’t agree with any of that. We brought it back to 2-1 because of the changes made. It’s not the 451 I had the problem with but the players used in it. I believe Fletcher can do the job on his own up front, but Doyle will never get dropped, despite Fletcher’s goalscoring form. I wanted Guedioura to start. With O’Hara and Henry, he could be freed up a bit more and is always likely to create something. Edwards is certainly a good player, when he hasn’t just been out injured for 6 months.
Context – spurs, QPR and Liverpool all top 6 by the end of the day? One bad performance, one unlucky one.
Newcastle will be difficult – a draw a good result.
While we are not happy, let’s not panic – save this for Albion away if we get hammered.
when I think about it, that Albion game I’m nervous about – if they’re still bottom of the Prem by then they’d love nothing more than a victory against us to get out of there!
A draw at home to Newcastle a good result? After 3 defeats? This is Newcastle who’ve lost Carroll, Nolan, Barton and Enrique and replaced them with pretty much nothing. They’ve had a decent start, but for me it’s a game we should be winning.
How many times are we going to “over react”?
How many times is our manager going to get it wrong at the start of a match, then adjust everything when the game is already lost?
How many times are we going to put in a shift only to fail at the end?
How many times is he going to keep his favorites, play admittedly injured players and have a bad day at the office? And what does that mean anyway?
How many more times is he going to play Doyle before he wakes up to the fact that forwards are at least supposed to attempt to score?
Enough is enough.
1 goal and 1 point from our last 4 games is relegation standard.
Looking forward to the next 2 games? I’m not coz Newcastle are doing well, and form will go out of the window when we go to the crem.
By the way Thomas, please don’t “interview” a shit fan before that game, you know what I’ll write!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FOMM.
Wasn’t able to see the game, but looking on forums, sites and blogs this is what I’ve picked up:
1. The first half we were OK, nothing special but neither team played great. Liverpool scored one lucky goal, and one very good one. 4-5-1, perhaps not working too well.
2. the second half, we took the game to them more, pulled back a good goal (That Henry bloke doing some decent work in the buildu p of the goal). Then we had lots of pressure, Jarvo looking threatening while O’Hara and Henry did well in the middle.
Ben, sometimes I think you should wait more than jsut one day to write a report! ‘Heroic failures’ are annoying, but considerably better than shit performances like last weeks.
Also, nice to see Doherty come on and impress. About time we brought through another young player into the team/squad.
At the end of the day, the bottom line is, we lost, again.
The records won’t show a spirited fightback, glorious attempts or any other spin.
We fuckin’ lost.
Again.
We can talk about this and that until the cows come home, but goals win matches, not shifts in the office, and we aren’t scoring enough.
The manager is there to decipher why, and fix it. It’s not rocket science, twenty or thirty thousand fans can’t all be wrong, why can’t he get it right?
He can’t or he won’t.
Doesn’t really matter, either way, he is not doing what he is being paid to do, so he should be sacked.
Simple.
No wherefores or whyfores, just sacked.
Get in someone who can do the job, before this season has deteriorated into a relegation scramble, again.
And have the interviewing done by someone at the club with a modicum of footballing intelligence…perhaps the tea lady or the bloke who puts them pretty white lines on the grass?
Certainly not the fat controller.
FOMM.
We’re eleventh in the league Clive. After 6 games. Eleventh. And we’ve had one bad performance. Most people have predicted we’ll finish lower than that. Not really sure how you’ve concluded that the manager is not doing what he is paid to do.
Yes the QPR game was a car crash, but as I said, one bad performance aint bad. It certainly aint relgation form. Next three home games are all winnable. Perhaps restrain your knee-jerk reactions till after then.
Excuse my ignorance, but I am sure the season has not finished, so 11th is only temporary.
We are in free fall.
How else would you describe 1 point and 1 goal from the last 4 matches?
I hardly think putting up with the bad players, bad tactics and bad results we’ve had to endure over the last year or so is “knee jerking”
All games are winnable…if the team selection and tactics are correct, if the players perform up to the required standard, and if the opposition have an off day!
Face it, McCarthy has had his chances, failed to perform again this season, and now needs to go before it’s too late.
I do not want to watch championship football next season, and have local derbies with the shit.
FOMM
“Ben, sometimes I think you should wait more than jsut one day to write a report!”
I’m afraid that’s tosh Louie.
Especially when you combine with this statement:
“Wasn’t able to see the game, but looking on forums, sites and blogs this is what I’ve picked up”
Remember, he’s writing a blog with HIS opinions, not a collection of other people’s.
Yes, in the immediate aftermath, emotions are a bit raw, but at least his opinions aren’t influenced by the assumed consensus of others.
I do not know what sites you go too but nowhere have I seen O’Hara did well. Jarvis was ok for about 10 minutes.
I think Morgan took a gamble with Wolves and the ‘recession/double-dip -about – to – happen’ has him flummoxed.
He is building a stadium he will not fill and his other ‘building’ interests can’t be doing too well.
We are left with what we have and that includes MM cos can Morgan afford to sack him? – I think not.
Football is facing a massive reduction in fans as they watch games on Sky cheaply.
I hope we muddle through another season. This optimistic about a game against Newcastle have my best wishes.
Agree Robin. I am crafting a blog about this issue as I type this to you…The straw that broke the camel’s back for me was Moxey moaning that we are all watching the games down the pub, thus depriving him of his maximum gate revenue. WAKE UP YOU IGNORANT BASTARD.
In a city with 9% unemployment rate, where I dread a five week pay month like a wank off Edward Scissorhands, I literally cannot articulate my disgust at our chief executive.
I watched the game in Penn Bowling Club yesterday and saw a load of weathered old faces that I first saw as a 7 year-old kid in 1988. The days of Phil Chard and Manders Paint.
They have probably never had it so tough today, yet clearly take solice and enjoyment in the immediate extended family that Wolves-fanaticism brings. Their one lasting comfort, in an environment that has glued their little community together for longer than Jez Moxey has even lived in this country.
But Jez knows best. He would prefer to close down the bowling club, take away the one main revenue stream that is probably keeping the place afloat right now and bulldoze it.
Kick out the members, drag them kicking and screaming to Molineux where they can instead pay £30 for a ticket, £3.50 for a bottle of Carling piss, and watch a spectacle that those very punters know isn’t good enough – because Moxey or Morgan won’t improve it.
Neil Warnock said Mick was like Arthur Scargill last weekend.
I bloody wish.
You’re right Ben. You see it at pubs all over Wolverhampton, you can see the game for the cost of a few pints and I was thinking that it would drag people away from the grounds. But the only way clubs can tackle it is to reduce ticket prices. Maybe it’ll be good for the game.
Ben, I think you speak for many football supporters and communities throughout the country.
Some years ago when living in Delhi, I went to Bangkok for 72 hours.
Everywhere had huge screens showing Man Utd against Chelsea.
A taxi driver’s English was almost exclusively, the name of Premiership clubs.
All over Asia the Premiership is shown ‘free’.
The worry, for the Moxey’s of this world, is that without the ‘crowds’ at these matches the ‘sale/export’ of football will dwindle and revenue will decrease, substantially, from foreign investment.
Moxey should be inviting those at the Penn Bowling Club to attend matches for free.
In terms of selling the Premiership, the ‘crowd’ are as valuable a commodity as Rooney or Drogba and they should not be paying for it.
The reason huge USA and Dubai investment has occurred is the popularity of the league East of Istanbul and West of County Cork. It needs the crowd, as much as the players, or its a busted flush and it is the biggest problem facing football today. It seems Wenger is the only one to comment, sensibly, on it
Very interesting point Robin. I also admire your stamina, going to Bangkok for 72 hours!
Just as an addendum.
Alex Ferguson speaking here on exactly this subject!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15059636.stm
Martin, it was a stop over, on the way to Bali, from Delhi.
During my Premiership days, though since my return to UK I’ve been relegated several leagues!
Henry did well for the goal Louie? He ran ten yards and his cross was blocked and it fortunately fell to hunt. Henry is dire, he barely puts a tackle in and his distribution in the first 45 minutes was appalling. It is hilarious how this guy is perceived as a midfield enforcer , the guy doesn’t tackle!
Agree with all the major points my friend.
Edwards shouldn’t have started. I don’t think there can be any arguments over that one.
A fully fit Dave Edwards in a 451 is fine by me, but not a half fit version. He lacks quality but makes up for it with his engine. If that’s not operating at 100%, he doesn’t justify his place.
Guedioura should have started, in my opinion.
Other than that, can’t fault Mick too much in this one.
He set the team up in the way I think most of us would have going to Anfield and we could easily have snatched a result.
Definite foul on Johnson in the build-up to the first goal.
Rode our luck at times in the second half when the game opened up but then again, so did Liverpool at times.
Newcastle is a big game next weekend. The result is more important than the performance in that one.
As others have commented Moxey doesn`t like Wolves and football fans in general watching games on Sky TV. Well if the team put many other performances as shambolic as against QPR, then its a wonder even 7000 fans, including me, turned up for the Millwall game. More performances like that and the pubs are going to get even busier.
If I had been staying in a hotel or eating out, and what we were served up was as bad as the football in the qpr game, no customers would go back.
As for Saturday MM said on MOD we were terrific in the 2nd half, well why not the first half and if we were so terrific how come we lost. The MOD highlights didn`t show terrific, I thought we were always on the back foot against better players.
The sanotised wwfc website now says the qpr game was our only bad performance of the season as if this something to be proud of, the balckurn game at home last season wasn`t that far away. The first 2 games this season were a nice respite from the relegation fodder served up over the last 2 seasons, but thats the battle we are going to be facing I`m afraid. Too much putting in a shift, not enough quality or pace in the side, as others have said why weren`t Hammill and Guidiera given a chance after the Millwall game. Not good enough already this season for me.
I thought we played well agsinst Liverpool. 3 massive games coming up. Newcastle have been on fire. Baggies away – say no more. Swansea at home which we would have probably lost last season. How we play in these next 3 games will define our season. This will be determined by team selection. For me all 3 games play 4 4 2. The key is to get the midfield correct which at present means Jarvis, Henry, O Hara and Hunt, with Guediora and Hamill overtaking off form players and used as subs.
Fletcher should be first name on the team sheet.
7 points coming up for us in the next 3 games- not sure which one will be the draw.
Is Hammill one of those talented players that Mick doesn’t trust? Does he do that untrustworthy continental thing of not playing in straight lines? Sounds terrible, get rid of him Mick, after all, we’ll always have Superman
By the way – “I dread a five week pay month like a wank off Edward Scissorhands ” – priceless
Did I read somewher earlier on this blog that one comment stated that “Ward had been brilliant at left back”. The same thought pattern shown by some loyal crew members as the Titanic sank.
Ward is barely adequate, not just at left back but anywhere in the side. The fact that MM has to play him is a sad measure of how the manager rates players, and how little he grasps what players need to survive and prosper in the prem.
Its not the players fault, he does his very limited best, but again the word shift is preffered to quality and ability by our manager. Let the relegation battle commence as the new stands with shiny empty seats reach further into the heavens above Molineux.
