The last great FA Cup away day for me was back in 1998 when Don Goodman scored the only goal at Elland Road in an unforgettable quarter final victory.
You can probably imagine how poignant it felt then bumping into the man himself after soaking up this monumental success.
Accompanied by a certain Mr. Bull, Don was only happy to pose for selfies and offer a few thoughts on the game in the Cabbage Hall Pub just a five minute stroll from Anfield.
His general assessment that Klopp’s team selection left Liverpool exposed for what was to come is more or less how I saw it too.
Once it transpired that only a few of the first team regulars would start, alongside reserves and academy graduates, I felt confident of a tightly contested game.
Paul Lambert’s team selection was more predictable with our big game players all selected along with a few of the heroes from the previous round.
The big call was giving Harry Burgoyne the shirt but I sense the young goalkeeper has the temperament to handle such occasions and so it proved.
Astonishingly, it took the home side an hour to force him into any sort of save by which time Wolves were in the driving seat.
Much of that owes to a tremendous midfield effort from Edwards, Saville and Evans who never once allowed Liverpool’s creative talents the space to pick their way through.
I’ve long felt that all of those players get the rough end of stick as they’re judged exclusively on their proficiency with the ball at their feet.
But in a properly balanced team with better technicians further up the pitch, their ability to close down space, regain possession and set counter attacks in motion was the key difference yesterday.
If Richard Stearman’s opener was just a great ball and a well timed header, Andreas Weimann’s strike was a textbook example of punishing the opposition on the break.
There probably aren’t many better ball carriers than Helder Costa and seeing him glide across the Anfield pitch was breathtaking.
Had it not been for well timed toe end tackle from a recovering defender he would have scored the goal of the season with his box to box run.
But he’ll have to be content with two assists after delivering the peach of a ball for Stearman’s goal and then slicing through Liverpool again with a run and pass to Weimann.
If the rumours circulating about his loan becoming permanent prove accurate that’s welcome news, but I’ll be astonished if he’s still around next season.
On the evidence of this performance you’d think Derby might be loathe to dispense of Weimann at the end of the season.
His running (in and out of possession) was exceptional and on several occasions he displayed a turn of pace I wasn’t aware he possessed.
I felt Nouha Dicko struggled to make the sort of impact he’s capable of but still put in a big effort to occasionally win the ball in advanced areas and get his team on the front foot.
But as soon as Liverpool pushed Lucas into defence I was crying out for Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and he certainly didn’t disappoint.
The big Icelander is the football dictionary definition of ‘a handful’ and the ideal lone striker.
Not only did he twice come close to scoring (the second chance made for himself with an unfathomable twisting run), he continually held the ball up and eased the building pressure, particularly after Liverpool had reduced the deficit.
Our back four really had to earn their crust in those final minutes when it seemed for all the world that the Kop would suck the ball into the net for a late heartbreaker.
That would have been so harsh on all of them after flawless individual and collective performances.
Stearman was incredible, with his goal the icing on the cake. You’d never question his commitment to the cause but he found another level yesterday and his reading of the game, particularly in cutting out dangerous threaded passes was top drawer.
Hause was more low profile, simply heading and kicking everything that came his way. He never got flustered and was wise enough to make the foul on the one occasion he was beaten for pace.
Matt Doherty couldn’t get forward but still played a crucial creative role in setting Helder Costa free in the build up to Weimann’s strike. He defended superbly and was always well positioned to cut off crosses.
The result probably meant more to Conor Coady than anyone else and he can feel very pleased about his efforts, never putting a foot wrong and staying strong in the tackle throughout.
Paul Lambert was keen to ensure it was the players who received the adulation as he acknowledged the fans at full time but it’s he whose masterminded the turnaround we’ve seen in recent months, culminating in this once in a lifetime victory.
The journey may end in the next round and we’re still far from being safe in the league, but nothing can ever tarnish this wonderful memory.
As I’ve said so many times before, it’s moments that make football worthwhile and this feels like one of the best.

Well!
What a day!
I, and the PMDG’er watched the boys take the ‘Pool to the cleaners. I think it was the best all-round performance I’ve witnessed from the men in Old Gold since the heady days of Cardiff in 2003 or the Golden era of Waggy, The Doog and co.
Every man was a hero and perhaps now we can accept Richard Stearman as rather more than ‘an accident waiting to happen’ and give him some well deserved praise for another immense performance. Costa was simply superb and hats off to Saville, Evans and Edwards, although it seems churlish not to mention everyone involved.
And Big Dadi showed what an important player he can be by retaining the ball in the opposition half when we desperately needed some respite from incessant Liverpool attacks and nearly scoring what would have been a contender for goal of the season.
Also, plaudits to Paul Lambert for having the balls to rest Danny Batth.
I won £90 for a tenner on Betfair. Odds of 9-1 on a two horse race are just asking to be taken. What were they thinking of?
I got on the BBC 606 ‘phone in in the evening and spoke to the leg end that is Robbie Savage.
I really can’t describe how I felt when the final whistle went yesterday but I freely admit to having something in my eye. In the old days you could blame the smoke in the Four Ale bar.
Yesterday I couldn’t.
What football can do to you!
I’m reminded of a famous occasion in the history of our green and pleasant land when I think of the 3,000+ Stout Yeomen in a foreign (well it WAS Liverpool) land, confounding all the odds and winning a famous victory.
And a famous speech that celebrated that momentous time:-
“And gentlemen in England now-a-bed Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.”
To all you proud English (sorry Stu and a few others) archers who were there, let’s do to the doubters what they did centuries ago to prove they could still pull a longbow.
Yes, it was a real “I was there’ day.
I’m really sad that I wasn’t…
…But in years to come, along with the rest of our ‘Band of brothers’, I expect I will have been.
Love the headline on the back page of the Sun:-
“Dunces with WOLVES”
Proppa footy, Proppa football, Proppa fans,
Watch this to the end and see the Liverpool fans clapping the Wolves players off the pitch. They are fans that have been there done that nicked a T Shirt, they are acknowledging how well those players did, no snide remarks from has been pundits.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1ACArNeW8m4
The report sums up an excellent victory. The commitment from the whole of the team was beautiful to behold.
The joy on Wolves fans faces was just great. The only thing Liverpool had over us, aside from 80 per cent of the ball, was their superiority in hairstyles. Firminio & Karius made Stearman’s style look at least 10-20 years out of date.
Yes our scruffy lot out manoeuvred the Prem glory boys. David beat Goliath. Mane, Llana etc would perhaps have made a difference. I envy their wonderful stadium, & Prem status, that’s what we have to aim for.
Brilliant, amazing, fantastic, superb. This was no lucky win. It was totally deserved. I want more days like this.
This result was all Lambert for me, what he’s done, and what he stands for…particularly the start ‘off the front foot’ and Steers ..cue my criticism of him previously ..he was side by side with Costa for MoM..(DB injured?)
Most of us smelled a potential result ,I did so when we were 2-0 up I was in la la land..
Amazed that our goalie didn’t have to save anything for an hour ….the best part was the beautiful stunned silence of Anfield ..truley fantastic..
Costa Costa Costa even on par with Sako ..
(Lol)
What a payback for the disappointment of our league position…
Please please a good draw in the 5th round..
COYW
Good move by Jeff to try to sign him up! Will probably earn back the money when the chinese people start to take notice of wolves, which they probably did after the victory over Liverpool. His shirt is worth gold.
If he moves to premiership he may end up like Sako – on the side line. Let’s hope we get some easier opposition next game. A non-league team would have been nice.
I am sure that on behalf of the many many Wolves supporters here on this little island would like to say to all at Wolves…. A big well done……you were heroes all of you….you made us really really happy….Keep up the good work….you gave us an absolutely wonderful memory….a1wolf from Malta
🙂 🙂 🙂
tickets were like hens teeth so i had to watch it down the pub. and i still wont forget it.
pool might have fielded a few youngsters but they had to call in the big guns to try and get something from the game, because we were immense. the only thing that could make me any happier is to read tomorrow that we’ve signed up Costa
haus and stears are our strongest cb pairing and (since williamson cant seem to stay fit) and i think jon Dadi needs to start now over Dicko.
but sublime performance by all… WE ARE WOLVES
happy days !
Icelandic clap! !! And how!

One last go, good job the team’s better than my copy and paste shills
Decided to travel down by train, in case I need to down a few beers “if we won”.
Great to meet up with Mike and Lilian Twixfix, Dave Bedford Wolf, Matt London Wolves Loyal and Kevin StuWolf’s nephew in the jam packed Wetherspoons. After a hearty breakast and a pint a taxi to Anfield saw us (me and my son in-law Paul) stop off at the cabbage where we bumped in to Thomas. Did not realise Bully and Don were in there mate – you could have said!
Getting to the ground and meeting up with Stu and Jen and others and hearing the atmosphere was the best I have seen for ages.
The match itself was amazing and every single man played his part.
So fortunate to be there. Will not forget that day.
I don’t care who we get next – bring them on.
An incredible result.
What a day to be a Wolves fan.
Everyone should take confidence from it.
The players & fans were immense.
Finally with Lambert, we have a clever, imaginative, coach.
Let’s enjoy the ride…
An important cup run for the fans as well as the team. If Costa stays, and if we get the players we’ve been linked to, we should be able to climb the table rapidly. Greater depth and increased competition in the defensive department are exactly what we need.
In the words of Father Jack- just fecking brilliuant
Nothing else to say really
If Carlsberg made cup ties……..
It really doesn’t get any better than this. Perhaps we didn’t have match tickets, but our clutch of Wolf fanatics in South Devon watching in the pub created our own match atmosphere. As the goals went in and Costa thrilled us with his silky skills, so the volume of our encouragement increased, much to the amusement of less engaged punters scattered around the bar. At the end, we danced happy jigs together as the last of the Red’s fans skulked off home.
On the way home, I stopped off at my local to offer my condolences to the ‘pool fans congregated there. I was congratulated through gritted teeth but they all agreed it was a very well deserved victory.
Every player deserves special mention so it’s pointless picking anyone out. But if they read this, I say thank you gentlemen, you’ve made this aging Wolves fan a very happy man.
And please don’t go Helder.
Still Buzzin now
Brilliant all round performance, and the result entirely deserved.
Though every player deserves praise, special mention of the Savile / Evans duo in mid field. Savile has been much maligned, not least by me, but when played in his true position he brings a great deal to the table. Similarly Evans is an untapped talent, who both defends stoutly and has a nice distribution. Playing together as a unit they were awesome, providing fantastic protection to the defenders behind them. They did it at Stoke, and then repeated it here. Never mind the inconsistent Price et al, surely this duo is the way forward.
Hause was again outstanding at the back. He showed pace, is great in the air, and displayed an air of authority from start to finish. When played alongside an experienced partner — be it Williamson or Stearman — he is our best center back option. The lumbering DB is not in the same class.
Finally a word for Paul Lambert. He has transformed a hapless rabble of no hopers into an organized, united team. He is tactically very sound, and knows how to set up his team. He has motivated and inspired confidence. Those amongst us who supported his appointment were initially derided as being stupid – I remeber that Amanda called me delusional. Well, no one is laughing now. With reasonable support from Fosun PL is the man to take us all the way
Amanda has called most of us delusional in her short time ‘contributing’ to the blog mate, I shouldn’t worry.
The fact that she seems to have gone away would suggest that maybe we aren’t all hopeless saddos and maybe, just maybe, the delusional one has the initials AC.
But as Big Ron used to say “It’s early doors yet” so we’ll have to wait and see.
Couldn’t agree more about Saville and Evans. Thanks, in the main , to these two Liverpool hardly threatened all match. Surely have to start for us.
Only 7 premiership sides left in the last 16 !!!
Maybe – just maybe ???? Wouldn’t mind Sutton or Lincoln at home in the next round.
we’re 75 to 1 to win the cup with Paddy Power………….. if we get some good draws……..who knows ?
Sorry mate, but I want Chelsea or Man Utd or Arsenal. To be the best you need to beat the best.
Get them out the way next and the final wil lbe easier lol
Nah, to win it you want the easiest route to the final as possible. We want Sutton, then Lincoln then Oxford in the semis lol.
We’ve earned our stripes in the cup season by dumping out 2 premier teams away already.
Actually I don’t mind who we get as long as we’re at home in round 5, cos the big 5 premier teams still left in might underestimate us. Away to the big 5 might be a step to far though, but probably a great day out.
At the moment we seem better playing away?
Great result. PL gets his selection right like always, every player immense.
Disappointed but not surprised by media reaction- ie Liverpool lost because they made wholesale changes. Only on Sunday Supplement was there acknowledgment that Wolves made similar changes and had a similar number of young players.
Wolves won because they were better and were truly a team and connected to brilliant support. How I wish I was there!
Well said that man. As I pointed out to those that would listen halfway through the second half, what Liverpool need to realise is, we are actually better than them. 🙂
A Liverpool fan mate of mine phoned me to congratulate me . He said from the very first kick to the last he thought we were the better team.
As I was there I knew, along with 2299 others, that he was right lol
I will remember this day for ages.
Youv’e forgotten already, it was 8299 mate, or are you talking about how many were in the pub with you at 10am.
Fat fingers. And no edit button lol
Yes, well pointed out CW. Wolves made a number of changes.
We didn’t just win – we were the better team by far and it could easily have been more. Possession counts for SFA when you go down. Its what you do with it when you’ve got it.
I’ve always thought Clive’s score predictions to be a little, lets say, optimistic but in all honesty if Dicko had controlled that pass on the 6 yard line, if Edwards through ball to Dicko had had just a tad more weight on it and if Costa hadn’t got nudged after running about 70 yards then his 5-0 prediction could have been the half-time score. A very similar performance to the one against Villa – not so much possession, but rarely in any real danger. Just felt for Doherty when his loose header led to their goal, but looking back he did superbly to win the ball, glide past one man and pick the perfect pass to put Costa away for Weimann’s goal. Heroes every one of them, but special kudos to Evans and Saville who yesterday were not the most creative players in the world but they have each got an ‘engine’ on them.
One of those I was there days , players supporters everything unforgettable. But the reason behind it, Paul Lambert tactical masterclass.
Great result! Makes up a little for 1976! Hopefully this leads to the demise of Klipperty Klopp Kop Flop! Remember what happened to Woy after our last victory there. This victory made even sweeter when you see stuff like this eejiot!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FQd_YjSnDk
Up the Wolves! Come on the old Gold n Black!
Still buzzing. Looking forward to going to work tomorrow with a smile on my face.
Happy to have one of the lower league teams at Molineux if that is how we keep this cup run going.
Echoing Clive’s sentiments on the preview thread, I think this result might just make Fuson sit up and think what could be possible, Wolveswise. The future is gold and black.
In years to come, Wolves fans will say to each other, where were you when we knocked out the mighty Liverpool’ out of the F A Cup ? Me, I was in the Astley Cross pub in Stourpot-on-Severn, the nearest BT Sport pub. We walked in at 11-30 am and stumbled out about tea time. What a day, wish I could have been there. Lets hope number five comes out first in tomorrow nights draw then I won’t have to Blog Stu for tickets. Paul Lambert Prem’ class selection. On wards and up wards. La La Land here we come.
I know Stourport on Severn!
Can somebody please tell our players that Barnsley is not a town 15 miles east of Sheffield, but a European Superclub, and that Tuesday night is a European Cup Tie. Simples.
What a fantastic day, on a par with our triumph at the Millennium in Cardiff. The weather wasn’t too good but spirits were high as the coaches moved away from Molineux. A good journey there with no hold ups, so two hours to savour the atmosphere around Anfield. Arkles the pub on the corner of Anfield road was heaving with a twenty strong queue waiting to get in so we scrubbed around that and had a walk around the ground. Standing admiring the new stand a Fan Support guy (one of those with the wind surf sails up their jacksie]! Asked if we were ok, my wife said we were trying to remember how it was when we last here. when we were in the premiership. “Don’t worry, you’ll be back before too long” he said with such conviction I believed him myself. Fans of both colours mixed without a hint of trouble, in fact quite the opposite; we were met with nothing but friendliness before and after the game. The game itself was fabulous every one of our team played out of their skin (yes even Saville) A bloke who I’ve chatted to before at away games summed it up at half time “They have done us proud no matter what happens in the second half” I could not agree more, but the second half they were all awesome, Stearman treble awesome, and Burgoyne double awesome for that stop with his foot at 2-1. Liverpool supporters stopped on the terraces on their way out to watch the Icelandic clap who needs’ you’ll never walk alone’
Back home to a Pizza and a bottle of wine while watching a recording of the match all over again.
Down to earth on Tuesday with a trip to Barnsley……………..Ah well.
I’m sure PL will have brought them down to earth.
please just lets get a home draw…don’t care who we play
drinks on me at Ashton Gate if we’re in the Semi’s
Minor error in what was a superb day for us – Doherty should have left the clearance for Burgoyne to come & collect
However that is nit picking & it made no difference to the end result
Been pissing down here in the South West today, but I still have a warm glow from yesterday so haven’t needed any heating on
I first went to wolves in the seventies so I was lucky to have seen a few of our greats (at the tail end of their playing days )
I saw waggy play a couple of times , saw the doog , saw a lot of John Richards , Kenny hibbitt , Andy gray , all of Steve Bulls and Robbie Keanes games ( never used to miss a game back then ! )
Forgive me if I’ve foolishly missed someone obvious but I think that Helda Costa is definatly the best winger , and maybe even the best player that I have seen in a wolves shirt in my time supporting wolves .
There ! I’ve said it !
Well said Matt.
Matt,
You know how huge Waggy has been in my life as a Wolves fan, but watching Costa set off on that run facing 4 Liverpool defenders and Skinning them, pure Nectar from the Gods. Then the pass from Doherty set him off again leading to a classic goal from Weinmann just sublime to witness.
He truly is the best winger Iv’e seen at Moliuneux since my hero Waggy,
FFS Lambert get his signature on paper, make him ours.
It’s days like this that simply get locked into the memory … to last of course forever.
I’m listing some , which, on the day were truly memorable.
… Bumping into two young 18 yr old lads at the station…golloping 8 cans of lager between them at 8am in the morning.
… Arriving at Weatherspoons at 9:30 barely able to get in with it being rammed so full with Wolves fans…eventually to be standing on the tables singing their heads off.
… Meeting up with Brompton (plus mate), Matt (London wolves), Dave (Bedford wolf), Stuwolf, Jen and family, Big Mark (plus Spotting Bully and Don Goodman in the away end.)
… Receiving good luck wishes from the Evertonian taxi driver up to Anfield.
… Queuing to get into jam packed Arkles pub on a some out , some in basis….and hardly going able to breathe ..although the person that farted in there must have eaten something damn awful.
… Standing amongst the thousands of vociferous BUT well behaved fans and feeling numb with such a magnificent performance…10’s to every player on the pitch.
… Feeling humble at the generous praise and acknowledgement from the Liverpool fans and Stewards.
… Catching the bus back into the city and having a good old chat to the Liverpool supporter bus driver …the bus being rammed with both sets of fans….
A great right up Thomas and this could be leading to something very special and maybe another Big day out to look forward to…..let’s all hope for a kind draw in the next round..
That is beautiful Twix. Just so beautiful. sniffle sniffle.
Sadly was not there yesterday but can’t argue that those who follow the boys the most deserve 1st pick at tickets for games like that.
However I have to ask again the question. Stearman was sold to Fulham for footballing reasons – Will somebody please explain how the bloody hell they came up with that crap!
The old ones are sometimes the best:
Wolves win 2-1 with over fifty thousand watching; not just yesterday but memories came rushing back of my first ever visit to Molineux when we turned over Leeds in 1972.
The same scoreline, the same excitement and that same connection with a football club that stays with you for life.
Scary to think of the two games being 45 years apart and there have not been many days like yesterday in between but let’s hope that this is a sign of many more to come.
Thank you Wolves for yesterday and a thank you also must go to the people associated with Liverpool FC for making us all so welcome.
I recorded match of the day last night and keep playing it over and over. I must add to the praise of Savile and Stearman both were faultless in fact everyone of the 11 and subs were brilliant .
I to got to Weatherspoons at 10:00 having caught the 08:20 train from Wolverhampton and had to stand up all the way but that didn’t matter. The mood of all the Wolves fans was relaxed and positive the ony blip was I had about a foot of room to turn in but when the train stopped at Stafford the biggest bloke got on and didn’t get off until Runcorn, he was massive got to be 22 stone or more.
Even walking up to Weatherspoons you could here the Wolves fans singing there were a few Liverpool fans out side and a few inside but there was no trouble or hint of it.
We decided to double up on the beers so got my 2 pints of Gunniuess and managed to find a table.
Even after the game we went back into the city for a few pints and got talking to some Liverpool fans no trouble just good banter that’s how it should be and they were genuine pleased for us and impressed with the size and noise of the Wolves fans.
I blogged in the preview to this game that it could be a watershed as to where we go from here, if that game and result doesn’t convince Fosun of our potenial nothing will…!
Loved watching Danny Murphy having to suck it up on MOTD. Remember him dissing Wolves a few years back as cloggers.
I recorded it and played it over and over, aint he a smig git.
Ticket for the game £19.50 (over 65)
Coach travel to Liverpool £15
Cup of Tea and Sausage roll at ground £5.50
Watching the look on my Grandsons face when the second goal went in……………..
FECKIN PRICELESS……
Must admit to scratching my head when I saw the team sheet but full marks to Paul Lambert they were well drilled and hunted down everything Liverpool had to offer. The stars will always shine out, Costa, Stears, Doc all supreme but it was the overall performance from everyone on the field that earned us this great win.
I can go back to the early fifties and remember all the famous victories, this one will be another to add to the list. Have to rely on TV now but at least we saw this one live here in New Zealand.
As for the supporters, we are a special breed. I remember one snowy, icy morning in January boarding a Don Everalls coach bound for Barrow for a cup game, this was a long time before motorways existed, when we left they didn’t even know if the game was on or not, but we still went, won 1-0, Wolves ay we.
Three o’clock in the morning, outside with the dogs, “Is it 6.30 yet?”
Like friggin’ Christmas Eve, only better.
I have milked every moment out of this weekend, watched the goals, the highlights, the final whistle, the fans and PL at the end.
Over and over.
One thing really pisses me off.
All those talking heads, and ex players, and so called fuckin’ experts, ALL went on about how badly Liverpool played, and how Klopp had picked the wrong team, and how they should have beaten a team from the Championship.
And some of them, at the end of their spouted bollocks, said things like “Oh. and Wolves had a plan and stuck to it and if Liverpool had played their first team would have walked all over us.”
No one gave us credit for the fantastic way we stuck to the prepared plan, should have had at least 4 by halftime, and gave them a footballing lesson.
Those players in red shirts are at LFC for a reason, and that is their owners, coaches, managers etc. etc. think they are good enough to represent the club, so it don’t matter which 11 they put out, they are supposedly better than lower division teams.
Well I got a message for all those experts.
Fuck You.
Never have I heard the Kop so quiet.
Outsung at Anfield.
The masses of fabulous fans behind the other goal blew them away.
Mrs. CFH ( she’s from USA ) at one point asked me which was the home team.
Talk about shit eating grin all weekend, still got it on at 7.45 tonight.
Every player in a Wolves shirt can take a bow.
And PL.
Two up, at Anfield, and he brings on three forwards as subs.
Up yours Jurgen!
And all of you lot who have been on this blog for a while will know how much I have always rated Richard Stearman.
Nuff said.
So fuckin’ proud to be a Wolves fan.
Eat your hearts out shit fans, it don’t come better than this.
Q? Can we play Liverpool again? If so the betting wont be 10:1
Its been 13 years since we were in Cardiff and this game is now etched in the same brain file as that one!
I dont really know why a 4th round tie had such ferver but its as though we knew something special was about to happen & boy did it happen
so 5th round Draw i really not fussed who we get, but not Sutton or Lincoln away there needs to be 26000 fans watching the next episode
thanks for all the pundits “Liverpool were shite” – respect what you see, like tye bulk of true LFC fans that said how well we played, supported & wished us well in the cup – proper RESPECT
oh & before i firget, thanks to Fuson, WWFC, PL, all the team & the wolves family cus without you, i’d have been bladdered on my own in the Adelphi Hotel before the match
COYW
PS, do Asson Vile fans still hold PL in such high regard? If so, well just remember Jim Bowen off Bullseye “look what you could of won”
Watched the game on TV while babysitting my 3 year old granddaughter in Reading. Absolutely awesome display by the lads, never any doubt about the result even after they scored, why did our defender not leave the cross to Harry in goal? But that is just a minor bit of nitpicking on my behalf. Well done all the hero’s who played their hearts out. Well done PL, you may well turn out to be the best manager ever at the Wolves, and I have seen them all since Cullis.
I am now going to put on a black arm band and going and collect my morning paper from my LEEDS supporting newsagent. It don’t get much better than this.
One final thought IF Fosun acctualy complete the permanent signing of Costa today we will be in heaven at the Mol.
You have all said it – a brilliant day and a fantastic performance from Wolves.
Watched it on BT sport with my daughter, son and brother. Going mental at the first goal and even more mental when the second goal went it. Blood pressure sky high – my daughter wanted to take it during the match, I declined!
Then they popped one in and the last 10 mins was agony – I even thought about going outside as I could hardly bear to watch the game.
Watched the game again on Sunday, brilliant.
Bonus of the bet on Wolves to win was the icing on the very large cake!
Odd that none of my facebook Liverpool fans showed up on facebook, probably still crying……..
Stears was man of the match for me but the whole team were just brilliant, not forgetting how brilliant PL was with his team selection and tactics, this bloke is a keeper and I feel we are going in the right direction with him.
Up for the cup !
Onwards & Upwards
🙂
Quote from one of the newspapers today……
“Saturday’s sensational FA Cup victory over Liverpool has left all around Molineux eagerly awaiting tonight’s fifth-round draw – as it emerged they have pocketed a cool £157,500 in prize money for getting this far in the competition.
They received £67,500 for their third-round win against Midlands rivals Stoke earlier this month and £90,000 for beating the Reds – with the prospect of welcoming either Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal to Molineux a huge possibility in the last 16 of the competition.
On top of the prize money, they will have pocketed an estimated £650,000 in gate receipts from the Anfield clash. Around 52,000 tickets were sold by both sides combined and the money is split 50/50 in the FA Cup”
On top of all that they will receive a share from BT Sport for them screening the game, so all in all not a bad days work for the lads.
So We are walking out of Anfield after the game and we spot a fan support lady in front of us.
My brother-in-law approaches her:
” excuse me love”
” Yes sir, how can I help?”
“Can you tell me the way to Wembley?” – fuckin priceless!!!!
OODCL
I began the day as a sardine and ended it as a seal. Oh and there was a buzz.
Changing trains at Crewe I was waiting with about 100 others when the 9.32 London Midland train arrived. Only 4 carriages long. Doors to the first carriage opened, no room. Doors to second carriage, jam-packed. Doors to third carriage, rammed. Doors to fourth and final carriage – packed to the rafters and fuller than Katie Price’s lips after her latest session of botox. People inside were moaning and complaining as they were so tightly packed in there whilst people on the platform trying to get on were moaning and complaining realising that they were not getting on this train. Luckily I am a seasoned veteran of the London underground in rush hour and knew what to do. At the last moment just as the doors were going to close I launched myself inside and managed to wedge myself between the closing door and four passengers, apologising profusely of course. I was on. Unfortunately the ensuing 45 minute journey to Lime Street – that actually took nearer an hour – was horrendous. The air-conditioning had broken, everyone was squashed up against everyone else’s hot, sweating bodies. there was no air in there. By the time I got to Phoenix (or Runcorn to give it its correct name) I was in danger of fainting. If I had no-one would have noticed as I was wedged in an upright position.
The relief at finally arriving at Lime Street was immense and as I breathed fresh air at last I was carried along by the massed throng of Wolves fans, singing, chanting. Wolves fans were everywhere. A short walk to the pub to meet up with Mr & Mrs Twixfix, Brompton and his son-in-law and London Wolves Loyal – a pub that was also rammed. People singing, standing on tables, excitement mounting. Then onto the ground and a quick pint in the Arkles – equally rammed, noisy, hot, singing, chanting. I will never look at a sardine again in the same way.
The game – well you all saw it. Un-bloody-believable. To score inside the first minute, to play so well, to so fully deserve the victory. Don’t let anyway dare say Liverpool put out a load of kids. Firmino cost more than 7 times what our entire team cost and more than 3 times our entire 18 man squad! Just think about that for a moment. Ridiculous. Unless my old eyes deceived me I also saw Origi, Wijnaldum, Klavan, Karius, Lucas, Moreno, Coutinho, Sturridge and Can. Meanwhile we ‘rested’ our captain and our record signing and had our 3rd choice goalkeeper between the sticks.
14 heroes. Paul Lambert, what a master. Great decision to sacrifice creativity to switch from his now customary 4231 to play three workhorses in the middle in a 433 system. At the end the Viking Slap was a wonder to behold as we all gave a decent impression of performing seals.
Afterwards there was a buzz. I think it was the number 17. Have to say it looked a lot like a bus to me but my travelling companions reliably informed me it was a buzz.
Next round? Leicester away would do me. Prefer to avoid the ‘big 5’ at this stage.
Picture from Arkles: L-R; Matt (London Wolves Loyal), Lillian Twixfix, Mike Twixfix and yours truly.
The last time I saw a line up like that I was in a police station trying to identify who mugged me for my ticket to Anfield!
By a strange co-incidence I used to know a really lovely chap called theDOOGooder.
Not guilty guv’ner…where’s my solicitor…
He’s the one on the left I think.
Scary stuff to see when I opened the text, first thing in the morning before my second coffee!!!
This must be right up there in the top three Wolves victories since the turn of the century. The play-offs win against Sheffield United? Maybe also when we came from behind to end Man U’s unbeaten run?
I was at the Chelsea game with a Liverpool mate and we made bloody sure we got into the hospitality area by 12.30 to watch Wolves. Needless to say, Chelsea fans were roaring Wolves on. I was winding them up telling them that Helder Costa is Diego Costa’s more talented younger brother! No reflection on Deigo, but they believed me!
Among the many outstanding moments was Costa’s long mazy run past defender after defender. Incredible. Also his part in Weimann’s goal. Weimann could easily have gone down when one-on-one with the keeper (many a striker would have played for the red card and penalty. Diego Costa comes to mind!). Another incredible moment was Bod’s run after we conceded. He ran, what 50 yards, pursued by 4 defenders and almost scored. That ran scared the living daylights out of Liverpool and took the pressure off our defence.
The Chelsea fans couldn’t believe how we counter-attacked. It reminded them of, err, Chelsea…
And, although it gets very little mention, on our second goal watch Dicko and the run he makes from centre to right, taking the defender with him and opening up the space for Costa to slide it through to Weimann. Brilliant!
Yeah, I spotted that yesterday watching the reply, quality play from Dicko, he caused a lot of problems for their defence, it was a lonely job at times.
Also not really mentioned, have a look for this. On the camera behind the play, at the end of Helder’s amazing length-of-the-pitch run, you can see the defender kicks his foot just as he’s about to slot it home. Check it out in slo-mo, I’m sure it’s right and you can tell from Helder’s reaction immediately afterwards.
It’s all been said and I’ve enjoyed all that’s been scribed by you good people , from a personal side , I had to ask my now Man U supporting 12 year old to join me on the couch , well by half time he’d snuck upstairs and pulled his new Wolves shirt on
See what happens fosin
Spot on Wolfstroker…defo pen.
Just realised that both our goals – and both assists – came from loanees. So no Wolves player scored or made any goals and yet we still bloody won! Take that Jurgen!
Is that actually a good thing Bedders???
Only on the basis that we can beat Liverpool without needing any actual Wolves players to score or assist. That is some feat. Great quiz question in years to come – how did Wolves beat Liverpool 2-1 without any Wolves players scoring or creating any goals? A bit like the old one about what year did Sunderland last score an FA Cup final goal at Wembley? On the wider issue of loan players and the way the loan system operates these days best not get me started on that one! lol
Jeff,I love you.Helder too
Costa four and a half year deal,
Officially the best weekend in years
Read em and weep Baghies fans. Now that’s a fookin signing. Best winger since Waggy without a doubt.
Even Morgan is happy……
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2017/01/30/helder-costa-wolves-sign-winger-in-13m-deal/
This last few days waiting for confirmation of this fantastic deal was as nerve wracking as the last five minutes at Anfield on Saturday. No, worse.
Congratulations Fosun. True to your word. Time for we fans to do our best to repay their trust.
I think I’ll buy a new scarf next time I’m up.
What a coup! Brilliant work all-round!
I’ll bet that Moxey wakes up in a sweat – at the thought that if he had stayed someone may have asked him to sign a cheque for £13 million.
You’re dead right nemo….but only because he’s missing out on his 10% commission backhander….gready (and greasy) fat bastard….!!!!!
Too true, mate.
There’s taking the Piss, then there’s taking the Piss Black Country style……
Quality Stu is this …!!
I am a bit worried tho’ guys ….. only feckin spent £13 million in this transfer window….come on FOSUN….
Oh by the way …this season ticket deal looks brilliant…thank f@@k that tight arse Moxey and O’Reardon have nothing to do with it ….
I’M DEFINITELY ……IN
Fuck me, I might even buy one meself, with the money saved I can afford 20 or so trans Atlantic flights………………….if someone else chips in a bit!!
Jeff??
Jeff?
Can you hear me, Jeff??
I’ll get this in before the cup draw.
I had a dream we get Burnley in the next round.
The thought of Costa steaming down our right wing and coming up against Ward.
Fill yer boots Helder, it will never get easier than that!!!!!
Easy one next only chelsea!!!
WEMBLY HERE WE COME!!!!!!
Shite…that was lucky then..if and when we beat Chelski then we deserve to win the cup..
I can’t believe that one of Costa s names is Wander !
Chelsea ain’t going to know what’s hit em !
Cmon me BABBIES !!!!
Fuckin great. Chelsea at um. Still pissed after Saturday.Hats off to the scousers. What a credit they are to their city. Nothing but friendly banter before and after the game. Fuckin massive headache Sunday mornin. Day started at 7.10 am with 2 carling in Moon Wolvo. I missed our second goal avin a slash. Gutted. Any rd bring on the next bunch of plastic fans. Gorra be on telly ay it ?
I heard the draw ln the radio and it was a bit of a dodgy signal, but I can’t see us having much trouble playing Chelmsley….I mean we’ve turned the other brummies over this season!
Personally I’d have preferred a tester…like a trendy London club possibly?
Brilliant. I am chuffed. To be the best you have to beat the best.
Need to get a ticket for this one too.
27,500 Wolves fans singing our heads off giving it large. Chelski fans don’t know how to get behind their team according to their last manager, boring bunch of Yuppie feckers.
A couple of shrewd signings over the next 24 hrs, bed them in before the 18th, Bob’s yer Aunty.
Even if it’s a 12-30 ko, we ain’t got to get up at silly a’clock.
Why not, why not indeed, we beat a team with Coutinio in why not one with Hazard.
COYW’s.
Where’s that video of us in the concourse. Can you stick it on here again lol
Speak for yourself – us tough Southerners would need to set off around 8am to get there and get parked. 3 o’clock on Saturday will do me just fine. Hopefully not Friday night or Sunday please Messrs Sky, BT Sport and BBC.
…… aint got to get up at silly o’clock……
Hmmmm.
This will be the one….

Costa vs Costa. Atmosphere’s gonna be electric.
Old Stan collymore should get down the mol and watch Costa before he opens his trap on twitter !
Why is Collymore chatting shite on twatter – he needs to look at the bigger picture!
When did we last pay top dollar for such a class player? Exactly.
If Helda Costa had been linked to a top half Premier then it would have been closer to £20M
We have him for 4.1/2 years – that takes him to close on 28 yrs with a large buy out clause.
I’d say not bad business if you can afford it and for the first time ever – we can afford it!
Respect to Fosun – no BS from the start and a true sign of their commitment & intentions.
Paul L (thank you Ashole Vile & Blackburn) can now build a team around this very good youngster, couple that to the talent from the academy and some seasoned pro’s & we really could have something to cheer about.
HC stats = 29 games – 9 goals – 5 assists
Now on onto Chelski – Costa v’s Costa and I bet Helder don’t wear gloves…
Golden Palace will be full with 31,500 capacity – given Chelski 4,725 – leaving 26,775 Wulfrunians giving it large and I bet they won’t out sing we. Wolves Ay We
We ate cockneys & we ate cockneys. FOWB. COYW
Do em. They wo fancy it.in perspective 80’s they were fuckin shite. 8000 at the bridge
Fuck all till the Russian !
Credit to Fosun and Jeff
A real statement. More to come. Good thing this time we have a sensible manager who sorted it.
Bollocks to Chelsea, I’m more concerned about Barnsley.
We GOTTA get three points tomorrow and on Saturday
Dont wanna get relegated right before we turn out at Wemberlee…….twice
And whats all this bollocks about Poolis doing all his press conferences standing up?
Cor they afford chairs or are they practising for when the stands get repoed??
Fowb
Enjoyed reading all the comments, some really amusing stuff, and I`d put the overall Anfield experience in the same bracket as Cardiff. Missed the first goal as I was being frisked – I ask you a man of my age, at least I had time to go to the loo and get a cup of tea before I found my seat.
A surreal day overall with an absolutely wonderful atmosphere. Had my ticket for Barnsley for a while, not sure where it is, but I wouldn`t miss it for the world. A great time to be a wolves fan.
Quite rightly so…. I got patted down by a female… wfhoar!!!
That’s as much as you need to know.
Just as I’m as exited as the rest of you to have Chelsea in next round I think we should concentrate on the league we need to keep building momentum get a run together to get up that league now!
Don’t you lot feel the same as me at the moment feels like we have, been doing well recently but we are still.18 th in thr bloody league
Lambert got some tough decisions to make for tonight for selection we have saiss back soon as well who I actually would play at centre, half
Well done boys Saturday brilliant victory which will be in my memory for years to come, we need points tonight though
Up the wolves
Well said rick rack wolves
except for the hating cockneys bit , there aren’t many of them left these days , and you won’t find any at Chelsea ! In fact I think Bedford might actually be one (I think )
Also there are one or two in the London wolves supporters club . But not at Chelsea!
Don’t forget me Matt, born St Thomas Hospital S.E.1. Dad Milwall, brother Spurs and me Wolves. Billy Wright my hero and Bev’ was alright too.
I forgot you were born down here . Better watch what your singing rick rack .. Whitley s big old unit !
Hey i hope i aint touched a nerve! ?
Anyone that supports the ode gold en black is a mate Irrespective of where they lay their hat.
Anyone supporting Chelski will become the enemy over the weekend of the 18th
and i think out of a mark of “footballing” respect, we should play Chelski’s out the tunnel song!
Anyone for a spot of The Liquidator pre match????
Plus 1:3 @ Barnsley on a wet Tues in January is the perfect follow up to Saturday
But please no getting carried away a good run in the league followed by a Win over the Oligarts men will boost the economy of the licensing trade no end
Banks’s till i die FOWB COYW
JUST SEEN MESSI COMING OUT OF POUNDLAND!!!!
LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER SIGNING BEFORE DEADLINE!!!!
I was st thomas aswell Witley but now love in Brighton
I am excited as everyone else over a great win. Imagine how frustrating to be watching at 11.30 at night (I live in Oz) with the missus already asleep and I have to yell all alone (very quietly) right at the very start. But having said that let’s not be over optimistic against Chelski. L’Pool had 3 games in a week and did start with a weakened team. Have just seen Chelsea’s fixtures and they have Burnley a week before and Swansea a week after our game. That means they will come at us in full strength I would expect. We do need that extra man – the Wolves fantastic supporters. They could be the difference.
