I’ve done all my predictions to the end of the season for Wolves, Cardiff and Villa.
Even though Fulham are coming like the proverbial express train, I’ve discounted both them and Derby as being able to catch us on the basis that if they did, we’d have crumbled miserably anyway.
My estimates have Wolves on 98 points, Cardiff on 92 and Villa on 91.
The projection for Wolves is pretty modest too, with only three wins expected from the next eight games, but then a strong finish to see us over the line.
If it played out as per my guesswork, things will be getting fairly tense in the coming weeks so I’m hoping the lads will exceed expectations.
Leeds
I haven’t managed to speak to a Leeds fan, but I’d be keen to know why they’ve fallen away again after a strong start.
Was it injuries to key players? A manager lacking ideas? Or simply a team that just stopped performing?
I’m not sure Paul Heckingbottom is the man to get them where they want to be and his record to date of two defeats, two draws and one victory won’t be hoisting them up from midtable anytime soon.
But if you dissect those results in greater detail the former Barnsley manager has a had the toughest introduction possible.
Sheffield United, Derby and Middlesbrough away. Bristol City and Brentford at home. And now the league leaders.
It’s a tough ask, particularly at a club notorious for itchy trigger finger.
Wolves
Given that they haven’t played for a week and a half you’d hope for a high intensity performance, which is always a necessity at Elland Road.

We need more from our front three, whoever forms that combination. For me, only Cavaleiro can boast any sort of consistency of late.
Costa needs to rediscover that cutting edge that made him so potent last season and we haven’t seen the best of Jota for a good while. Perhaps the rest will have done the trick?
Predictions
Leeds have the home record of a midtable side with seven wins, five draws and five defeats. I don’t think there’s a huge amount to fear.
However, they have some good individuals and after getting spanked by Boro last Friday I would expect a response, particularly in a televised game.
I’d like to see us get four points from the next two games (I’ve only predicted one though) and I think this could be a draw.
1-1.
Up The Wolves!

It’s time to get back to winning ways, the wobble is over and our boys are well rested. And seeing as Leeds are one of the clubs who want us investigated…there’s even more motivation going into the game!!!
I’d like to se Afobe starting. He was brought up by Arsenal and has premier league experience, so don’t buy into the he doesn’t fit into this team argument.
He’s been here long enough now to get to know the players in training and can stretch defences away from home.
Bonatini has gone off the boil and a front three of Cav, Costa and Jota doesn’t leave us with great options from the bench. For me it should be 2/3 plus Afobe up front.
The rest of the team can stay the same.
A point away at Preston was good. A last minute equaliser against Norwich was disappointing but lessons should have been learnt, regarding complacency. A loss against Fulham was fair, as we were off the pace that day.
I worry about players with a lack of experience seeing out games under pressure but you can only hope that when it’s 11 v 11 the fact our team is fantastic will be enough to see us through.
We should be capable of winning half our remaining games, so let’s get back to basics and do what we’ve done all season.
Afobe is just like an Arsenal player, how well are they doing . Be very surprised if Nuno plays him up in Leeds. Very surprised. Come on you mighty Wolves.
I agree we should start with Afobe.
Against Fulham he showed an enthusiasm the rest of the team lacked.
However whomsoever Nuno starts with I am confident.
At the beginning of the season, with an untried team, most thought a play off place, would be a good result.
Now we have embittered, envious rivals, who think Mendes & Fosun didn’t do their homework and we illegally bought promotion, while at the same time, potentially ‘bottling’ it….
Talk about contradiction!
Nah….
It’s warmer now and I expect an unbeaten run till promotion is assured.
Afobe hat trick if he starts….
From what I have seen of Leeds this season the first goal will be crucial. If we score first their fickle fans will be on their backs in an instant and in which case we will stroll to an easy 3-0 win. If they score first then their fans will be right up for it and the whole game will be so much harder. I’d still take us to win mind but maybe a hard fought 2-1 victory rather than a stroll in the park.
I hope Afobe starts.
I hope we win and win well.
I hope that Dirty Leeds, to give them their full and true name, get what is coming to them.
OODCL
P.S. Harry Bennett the underworld’s most notorious receiver of stolen goods has been found dead this morning. He fell off the back of a lorry.
Have nicked the joke B.F. very droll, made me smile.
Can’t take the credit unfortunately – heard it on an episode of The Two Ronnies at the weekend and made me laugh. The old ones are the best!
We all hate Leeds and Leeds and Leeds we all F..king hate Leeds……so the song goes. Believe it or not we are there bogey team I think they hate us just as much as we dispise them……as the saying goes there’s history there.
I would hope for a win tonight I think we need to to get some much needed confidence back not to mention points a win would set us up nicely for Villa it would put down a marker to the rest of the league to say hey were back to our best.
The front three is a big problem at the moment only Cav is nailed on for a start. I have to say the only way we will know if bringing back Afobe was right is if we give him meaningfull game time which means he needs to start a game and in my option this should be the one we are away from home so the pressure will be less on him plus if its not working bring him off I think he could cause a few problems for Leeds they haven’t the best record for clean sheets at home.
I going for a win I don’t know why I’ve not been drinking I just have a feeling we will frustrate them and nick it……….fingers, legs and toes crossed..!
Always tough at elland road but we have a decent record there. If we can get an early goal we will win convincingly 3-0 wolves
I think Afobe has to start. He offered a real cutting edge when he came on against Fulham, making incisive runs, holding the ball up and providing a real focal point. He was unlucky not to score and even more unlucky not to have an assist following Jota’s wasteful finish.
I think Nuno needs to get his team selection and his substitutions right this week after, in my opinion, getting them wrong at Fulham.
No need to panic yet, but a quick glance over our shoulders and a good push on in the next few weeks wouldn’t go amiss.
I was behind the goal at Fulham when he narrowly missed that sitter. We are strugling if Benik is the answer.
Tonight could see our lead cut to 3 points so we better kick start our winning ways again. No reason not to take all 3 points tomorrow and retrieve that feeling of managed confidence that has hidden behind the clouds recently.
We need a win, we must win, we can and should win. We need to score, none of strikers are currently in their best form, Jota has to play, Cav has to play, Costa was absent and Bonatini was appalling ay Fulham, they need the proverbial kick up the backside. Afobe to get his chance. He and Jota should link well together.
Hoping the rest will have helped so we can kick on with games Wed, Sat, Tues, Sat to come in next 10 days. Need a minimum of 7points, dont care how or where as long we get them, the more the better.
I honestly think we get more than 7 points then we will coast the rest of the season and will be champions as we truly deserve to be with the skill, strength, style, teamwork, togetherness and workrate we have shown throughout the season.
Has to be a win. I’ll go along with Afobe starting just to either shut me up or prove my fears correct.
People speculated that our team of skillful but inexperienced imports would tire in a long Championship season. Well the Reading postponement has given them a well earned 10 day break. Some said they couldn’t do it on a cold night in Grimsby, or somewhere. Well, the thermometer is on the up and spring is finally in the air.
So, what’s to stop us turning on the style and putting dirty Leeds firmly in their place.
Nuthin’!!! That’s what.
Nuno will have been intense in training with Afobe and he should start.
Costa was lightweight at fulham but could still change a game late on.
Ndiaye needs to calm down a little and sort his passing game out and Saiss needs a huge rocket up his arse and start doing what we know he is capable of.
I expect Nuno to have sorted all those things out as he seems to see what we see unlike previous managers.
Only one result .
Well we are in a mini-crisis of sorts.
One of our forwards needs to find the back of the net, and we need Reuben back at the w/e.
Not worried yet, but we do need to start winning again.
Why not start against Leeds – ‘cos as has been rightly stated above ‘we all hate effing Leeds!’
Prior to the postponed weekend game post Fulham, most concerns were voiced as to how the midfield would be filled without Neves and the options of the 3 up front…
The same I suppose applies again
MGW and Saiss in midfield for me with Cav, Afobi and Jota as the front 3
For me the NDiaye /Saiss combination was not effective at Fulham and the other spouted option of pushing Coady forward to midfield leaves a back 3 combination untested to date
Should MGW prove a leap too far then the other options could be applied without changing the system …..likewise if Afobi doesn’t click, given a start, Costa can replace him and a return to the flexible 3
Nothing new there I think
…. I was at the reverse fixture and other than a 15 minute spell at the beginning of the 2nd half we were well in control however that 2nd half spell was nullified by the red card rather than a return of the dominant performance of the 1st ….Alioski took his goal well and seemed like a decent player however considering Leeds were spanked by an average Boro team, I see no reason, if we play at the high intensity that we displayed that night we will spank them too…after all they are a mid table outfit and Nuno will have had 11 days to sort out a winning strategy with the inevitable personnel change ….. I predict the same scoreline
Can’t decide on a hard earned win or a gutsy draw
At the moment no wolves fan if true can predict this result it’s going to ways
First we play out of out skins spank them play fast free flowing football defend well like most of the season or
Play like our last two and a half games looking nervous, giving ball away and not finishing, come on boys make it the first one
Please.
An away win at Leeds will be a great result, but I think a draw is more on the cards the way we have been playing.
If the Afobe gamble is ever going to pay off we need to actually give him a chance to see if he’s a full house or a busted flush.
Being a man who has been known to have the occasional flutter, I’d put a couple of quid on the former being the case.
We need goals and he’s a goal scorer.
Take away the last couple of weeks with the doubts and fears that have crept in to our communal Wolves psyche and look at it this way.
We stuffed Leeds at home in one of the most sublime performances I have witnessed at Molineux.
(One of two in the same week I seem to remember).
We were a whole heap better than them then – and we are STILL a whole heap better.
Ergo…. We will win.
Ergo?
Wasn’t he Dr Frankenstein’s hunchbacked assistant?
Lets hope its a full house Doog. Big call for Nuno tommorow night.
I will be abroad on holiday from tomorrow and will therefore miss the televised games. For Leeds tomorrow my thoughts for the Reading game are still valid. Afobe must get decent time on the pitch and preferably start. Bonatini must now wait for his chance until promotion is guaranteed. I thought 2-0 win for us against Reading was on the cards but I will shave this to 2-1 for Leeds away. Shame that Neves’ ban now affects the Leeds game but on the other hand I don’t want him exposed to Don Revie-style GBH.
Years ago when I used to go to away games went to leeds spent the first 20 minutes of the game getting soaked and buy that time we were 3 – 0 down, stopped going away after that and have disliked leeds ever since, still have billy bremner and don revie in my head.
No surprise that its Leeds,Derby and the Vile (shit teams the lot of them) are complaining about our links with mendes, Sour Grapes or what ?
So we will go there and stuff them, Afobe to start for me and hate having to put in a conceded goal.
Whats with the advert ?????????? the only site that gets you a girl and to think we are not allowed to post our pics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To clarify when I did my post the advert alongside was for a contact site which appears to change as now a prizes galore site is showing
Bouncebackability, win this one and with reading and Burton being our next two home games it will be like a free hit against villa which will make us more dangerous imo, just watched the replay of the Fulham game ( couldn’t bring myself to watch it again until now) it wasn’t that bad , very little in it before the goal and Fulham are much better than Leeds so I’m confident
Utw
We have the quality for this. Come on Wolves, let’s wrap things up.
Looking forward to this game. My memories of Leeds were back on 21st March 1970. Leeds fans fighting and causing general mayhem. Times have changed but I still have a dislike for them.
Anyway on to the game.
We should be well rested and be busting a gut to get back to winning ways. Times have been tough over the last few games, but then this is probably the toughest league in the world.
No doubt about it, we need to produce a performance tomorrow night. I would stick with Fred and Roman in midfield. As for our striking options I would stick with Cav/Jota/Costa. However, Nuno may have other plans. I would not be surprised if he changed the formation for this game, might go 3-5-2. But what do I know? Nowt!
It’s time to see what our players are made of. I think they will respond but a draw would be a good result for us.
Got to go at them from the off
as other posters have noted they will have the crowd on their backs if we go in front , got to be a win and a clean sheet
COYW
Will be a tough test. Jota really needs to step it up like earlier in the season.
Reporting in from Sunny Goa. It is bloody hot here.
Hope for a good win as I have reserved my seat at the bar for 1.15 am kick off
Are you talking about the weather or the Curry Brompto’.
Ten days without a game and we revert to our past panic mode.
All the old fears and superstitions and reverse snobberies kick in.
Wim Wolves so wim gunna fukkitup.
Bollocks.
Wim the new Wolves aye we?
Leeds are a blot on the landscspe, a zit in the way of our inexorible ( spellin’ ?) march to the Prem.
We will steamroller them like wot we done at the Mol.
Followed by the same result for us as we did in the next game after the previous Leeds match, before.
If you can follow that then yoom a better man than me, Gunga Din!!
Watched Leeds play Boro last Friday they looked pretty average to me. If the team play as we know they can should be no problem.
As I said for the Reading game I think now is time for Afobe to be given a start. Don’t think it will be easy but we should win. (God I hope so or will I get some shit from my Leeds supporting newsagent.)
Onwards & Upwards towards the promised land.
In any case they deserve a kicking for their sour grapes about FFP
On a different topic, the talk of Neves to Man U might just be his agent or others telling the Portuguese coach that he is doing well and still deserves a spot on the World Cup team even though he is playing in the Championship, without actually saying so.
Mendes is his agent.
Don’t think the likely Leeds line-up is as strong as the one we did 4-1 at Molineux. Alioski and Saiz the danger men if they play. Nuno needs to get the boys to come out dominating possession and playing at a high tempo from the start. After Fulham I wonder if other teams will try to isolate a big striker (here Lasogga) against Coady. Nothing against Coady, who has been magnificent, but it might be worth moving Boly into the central position and using Miranda or Hause on the left.
Hate Leeds
back to high-tempo style for our team and nothing can or should stop us
WInding up Villa mates meantime as that will win me some money this weekend
Onwards and upwards
Don’t know whats been going on with Leeds either. They won the league in September and looked decent for the playoffs as recently as Christmas (or even later?).
They’ve got that big fat lump up front and weak options in goal, that’s about as much as I know. That shows me there are two things we need to change from our performance against Fulham:
1) need to be *tough* at the back, can’t be getting bullied in the way Mitrovic managed to bully us.
2) we need to test the keeper. If its not Lonergan it will be another dodgy stopper so Costa, Jota, Ndiaye, Cav, Afobe just need to have a bloody go! not try to pass it into the net every time.
We’re f-ing Wolves ay we!
I’m going for underlying class here because of a shortage of meaningful pointers – apart from the M’bro result of course. Nine times out of ten this Wolves side – really whoever plays – would beat anything this Leeds team could field. This game could of course be the one in ten, but I fancy the class and form result. About time we had another clean sheet as well.
COYW
We’re off up into the mountains for a few days so getting to know the result on (our) Thursday morning will be difficult.
For me Leeds away is never easy and Heckingbottom will be trying to play the high energy, high press game …. just as his ex beloved Barnsley did. ….. Those home and away games proved tough and tomorrow will be the same.
Would dearly love to win but an away point in a hostile place like that is something we’ll have to settle for … disappointment but a point is a point.
I’d still be happy to see Bonatini with Jota one side and Cav the other.
Can’t see anything other than a win tbh, I know it’s Dirty Leeds and they have form with us, but beat us? REALLY? Not a chance.
UTW
Afobe deserves to start, we have to start performing again, we have to win!
Especially as I suspect Cardiff & AV will both get 3 points this eve. Time for us to wake up & finish things off.
COYW
Getting the Coach up to Elland road tomorrow about 3-30 pm, going to join the other 1262 12th men hoping to spur the boys on to another tick in the box, 3 points towards the PL, another clean sheet, another double over a shit team and their dirty gutted owners trying to do anything they can to stop Wolves. The FA put out a statement on Sky tonight saying, “ we have complied with everything asked of us so far”.
Smacks of Don Revie days when they thought they could run rough shod over everyone around them. Well they tried it before and Wolves went out and spanked them big style, tomorrow we will be angry with them, our boys will feel betrayed by the Leeds owners and hopefully they will turn that anger to their advantage.
So Leeds 0 – 1 for me.
Not going for a big score because we have no Neves, we wondered how we would fare without him, well we now know, I understand why the talk was of trying to find a new Midfielder to play alongside Neves in the Summer and January window.
COMBambinos.
Hiya Stu,
Keep em peeled mate. We’re gooin with Wolves on tour tomoz. We’ll look art fo yoo.
Ope we have the Wolverhumpton & Wodensfield Male (& female just to prove I Ay sexist) Voice Choir with us tomoz as there’s only 1250 odd to draarn out them Don Reevie loving halfwits.
Confident not cautious.
Will be on RR alert mate, happy trails, let’s come back with the Bacon from this one.
Onwards to the PL.
I had a terrible dream last night … I dreamt that the wife left me and that wolves lost 4 nil against Leeds
Jesus Christ , I hope fucking wolves don’t lose !
Football gods are spooking me and telling me things
On that basis
Portuhampton 0
Weeds. 4
Really need something out of this game. Get this and Villa out of the way and that leaves six of the last ten at home. This could be a draw. 2-2.
Agreed Cheesie – draw for me too.
Always tough at Elland Road particularly without Ruben.
COMBs!
Agreed WWW a point will still leave us 8 clear of Vile and with GD factored in 9. A win would be brilliant but not panicking just yet.
Looks like results tonight going against us ,So it’s up to us tomorrow night to come good and kick on against Reading Tuesday evening.come on wolves do us proud.UTW.
Our ‘little blip’ was not so bad. I was at Preston and they were very good opponents. It was bad luck to concede against Norwich in the 94th minute, and Fulham proved again just how good they are by winning again at the weekend.
We’ll be raring to go after our nice rest, and get back to our best form. I don’t worry too much who’s up front when our goals can and do come just as well from anyone in the team.
Disappointed the Reading game was called off as I fancied us to get a win to set us up for two away games but more importantly to get rid of Neves’ suspension. After wanting Bonatini to start against Fulham I think its fair to say that he did not cover himself in glory so for that reason I would go with a front 3 of Jota, Cav & Afobe. Maybe harsh on Costa but I still think he is not quite hitting the heights he is capable off. Apart from that I would go with the same team that lost to Fulham. I would not risk Gibbs-White in an away game just yet I had him earmarked to start against Reading at home. Not sure what to make of Leeds, very inconsistent so after a weeks work on the training field I fully expect us to come out firing and secure the win which sets us up nicely for the Vile.
Lets hope the enforced rest has helped rejuvenate the players for this final phase of the season. For me it’s a must win but have we got over the “Blip”?
Must be positive Wolves 2-0
Right this one is fekin simple
Wolves win
Gonna try some yorkshire hospitality before watchin the mighty wanderers spank the dirty fekin leeeeeeds.
COYW FOwb veela Colin’s-cloggers fulum and all naysayers
Still in “blip zone” without Neves and the other mids being ordinary against Fulham. Things have tightened up after tonight’s results and 1 point wouldn’t be terrible. Momentum has stalled for us and is now with the chasers – we need to reverse it fast
The Neves factor is real indeed and in his absence at Leeds we will probably have to be toe to toe in the midfield..Just up Leeds street..not Saisse’s
Unless we are prepared to do a Bournemouth and cameo role Afobe then
we might as well give him back..This is the game to give him 90 mins so he can
Have a good go and win this.
Ruddy must be more consistent or we find another goalie and it would be nice for Doherty or Douglas to remember how to play again..
Looks like it’s on Cav or Jota to also swing the game then..
Stinks of a draw
I’m finding it very difficult to call this one. I think it will say a lot if we produce a lacklustre performance tonight as its been a over a week since we’ve played. I’ll be worried put it that way. We miss Neves in the middle but Leeds have been poor of late do I’ll say a score draw.
I think we will bounce back after the Fullham loss.
Would start with either Afobe or Bonatini up front. Costa was well out of sorts against Fullham and may be better introduced late in the game.
Am a little worried about the midfield without Neves.
Hopefully last night’s results spur us on to keep the gap.
Regarding our Championship rivals whinging about the Mendes factor, a question springs to mind.
Ask yourself, if we were mid-table or below, would they be sniveling to the League about ‘Ohh, it ain’t fair, Booo Hooo’.
If the answer is no, then it’s obviously just motivated by jealousy or gamesmanship, trying to throw us off our stride.
Worms!
We need to get something out of this. Although we have a cushion the clubs in the hunt for promo are picking up points. Neves will be a big miss.
There are a few people mithering about how hegginbotton set up his team to (almmost) thwart our attack earlier in the season.
But that was at Barnsley, people. Low expectations.
This is dirty Elland Road. Their fans can be as critical and jittery as a section of our home crowd so when we frustrate their early attacks and get a goal after 15 minutes…well, the puddin’s will turn and their game will be up.
Sorry if I’ve ruined the opening for anybody, I should’ve headlined this ‘Spoiler Alert’ reaally, shouldn’t I…
Crunch time of the season approaching, and we are still in a very good place.
Been on holiday in a very wet and windy Gran Canaria for 2 weeks, the worst weather there for 25 years, so to cheer me up a handsome 2-0 win at Elland Road would do nicely.
Come on you wolves!!!
no no no Afobe must start … If Jota was Jota from 2 months ago then you’d have a case for three attacking midfielders up front, but he isnt and we have to play our best players on the day. Afobe is an out and out striker and getting 90 minutes service from Costa and Cav is the best chance we have of wining the game
Cardiff might be winning but their supporters seem to think its more by luck than Colin’s judgement…
“as someone who has seen the odd five match winning run from my team down the years, I cannot recall another one where the general level of performance throughout has been so ordinary.”
from http://mauveandyellowarmy.net/five-straights-wins-for-cardiff-city-and-yet-doubts-remain/
Very nervous about the next two games, after last nights results. I really hope we win them both and leave everyone for dust. Villa fans at work think we’re they’re for the taking on Saturday. They seem a bit deluded to me. We need to keep our concentration up and control the games as Nuno says.
Preston beating Bristol City confirms how good they are, so no disgrace drawing recent match, and Fulham winning again shows their strength. I wouldn’t mind Mic…er…that Serbian in our team !
WE need to win well tonight nevertheless and restore confidence.
Head ruled heart last night and had an accumulator on M’boro, Cardiff, Fulham, Villa( left out Derby, shrewdy ) and chucked in Real Madrid for a nice little touch. Moral of the story; Never bet with your heart, even though I wanted the first four to lose. Having said that, I never bet on Wolves games.
Very winnable. No excuses tonight lads, Neves still on ban but as Nuno says…its all about the team, so it’s time for the rest of the team to step up n get the job done and get back to winning ways after our mini slump.
Any Wolves fans in Hong Kong……ill be watching in Churchills Wanchai
Hope we win but a draw wouldn’t be the end of the world.
I’d take a scrappy 2-1 here
I’m in not so sunny, but at least it’s dry, Sirmione (Lake Garda), so unlikely to catch the game.
Wolves should be well rested and raring to go but this is a tough fixture. Afobe should start, so we can all see what he has left in the locker.
Ex : went there a couple of years ago beautiful place espeacilly the old walled town but what ever you do don’t try and drive round it thought I’d never get out or have any paint left on car……..narrow doesn’t cover it !
I see what you mean Paul. Also, I spoke too early about it not raining. Now to try a streaming link suggested by my son.
And the latest news (rumour)
Danny Batth playing tonight, Bennett is dropped because of his performance at Flum.
IMHO. Just the right man for dirty Leeds, as long as he can stay on the pitch.
Saisse, Jota need to stay yellow card free until after the Reading game, then all bookings cancelled out.
Onwards and Upwards.
Danny playing. Spot on Stu!
Blimey was it really 20 years ago we beat Leeds 1-0 in the FA cup at Bell End Road? Both sets of fans were allowed to exit simultaneously (how stupid was that) and thanks to the appalling behaviour of Leeds supporters and the non-existent police proceeded to engage in the biggest bust-up I have seen since Millwall visited Molineux in 1973.
Another brief look back in time bloggers – Leeds v Wolves February 1971 in a first division fixture.
This was my first visit to Hell End Road and came one week after lowly minnows from the fourth division Colchester United knocked Leeds out of the FA Cup 3-2 at Layer Road with our former goalscorer Ray Crawford amongst the goals for Colchester. Oh how the country chortled at one of THE great cup upsets.
If my somewhat diminishing memory serves me correctly (that is debatable) 4 of us travelled from Sedgley to Leeds – Ian Preston (driver in his Triumph Herald), Andy Haynes and Paul Thompson (Ols). Wolves supporters were housed in the Scratching Shed end with its distinctive barrel roof at the opposite end from the notorious Gelderd End which housed most of the Leeds lunatics.
Both clubs were riding high in the league with Leeds eventually finishing second to double winners Arsenal and Wolves a very credible fourth ahead such luminaries such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City which was even more astonishing considering we lost four out of the first 5 fixtures. (From that day to this we have never finished so high in the league).
Gould, Curran and Dougan led the goal charge while a (very) young John Richards scored his first “proper goal” for the club in the Derby quagmire – he had previously scored in the Anglo-Italian cup v Fiorentina. (Frankly the pitch at the Baseball Ground actually deserves a chapter on its own).
Revie employed a key tactic in those far off days – at each Leeds corner the towering figure with the giraffe neck Jack Charlton would lop into the penalty area and park himself at the near post trying to obstruct the goalkeepers vision as the corner came in. As he bounded up during the game at our end the away fans goaded him with all sorts of abuse and a few ditties such as “When big Jack Charlton comes bob-bob a’bobbing along – shoot the bastard, shoot the bastard” to the tune of the red, red robin and the usual songs about his elongated neck. To be fair I have a vision of Charlton grinning as the “lyrics” reached his ears in front of us.
Wolves lost 3-0 in front of 37,000 so maybe he had something to laugh about on reflection.
Apparently we have played Leeds 96 times in all competitions with 32 victories and 42 defeats.
Number one on the charts 47 years ago was Mungo Jerry with Badfinger, Ashton Gardner and Dyke, Paul McCartney, The Supremes, T-Rex, The Kinks and Elton John all in the top 20. Happy Days eh – it was possible to actually understand the lyrics back then!
At the flicks Get Carter with Michael Caine was pulling in the audiences and Ted Heath was resident in Number 10 although he seemed to spend more time on his yacht then worrying about the country, and the UK had just converted to currency decimalisation.
Enjoy the game bloggers – heart and head time for the prediction. Heart rules as always – 4-0 to Wolves.
BOG
Finally – on how many occasions have Leeds United averaged over 40,000 in a season?
Answer – never.
Big Club – my arse.
Hi Thomas, I too have done all my predictions to the end of the season, including tonight’s game.
WOLVES = 99
CARDIFF = 98
A.VILLA = 97
FULHAM = 96
Not a lot of room for any errors…!
Bloody memory again…..
I always forget to fill in the prediction WHY?
Hopefully the rest will have done us good and we’ll be back to the intensity levels of earlier.
Hopefully Nuno has worked his magic on the training field and our boys will be hungry to get back to winning ways. Doubt it’ll be pretty, but three points would be grand.
Wolves 2 Leeds 1 Wolves 2 Leeds 1
Not really back-to-the-wall game for Wolves – yet damn close to, with every team bellow winning last night.
2-0 will be the tonic I need to soothe the nerves.
Ruddy
Boly coady Batth
Douglas Saisse N’Dyiae Batth
Costa Bonatini Cavalerio
Strange one for me StuWolf,
What’s with the Bennett change for DB.
I thought he might’ve given Afobe a start.
In Nuno we trust.
He was going to drop Bennett on Saturday against Reading for his poor performance against Flum.
Must admit Batth looked shit scared when receiving he ball tonight, but held his nerve, great team performance
I think we will just about have enough on our three wheeled wagon to get past the shank’s pony of Leeds tonight. But even if we don’t I will not be feeling suicidal. Once Neves is back we move up through the gears and fly past the average challengers.
So who would we like to share the promotion party with?
Colin’s terrorist’s are not my idea of a scintillating traveling companion. But the Vile have just about pressed all the buttons in my red zone now.
How long have they seen themselves as the senior representative in the West Midlands. They expect every quality transfer candidate to sniff dismissively at signing for any other Midlands club. They have had the opportunity to hoover up the best since being European champions some 40 years ago. Part of their assumption was relieving us of Robbie Keane without the courtesy of speaking to the club first.
Now, having displayed a level of inept management that makes Morgan and Moxey look like mensa champions and blowing 80 million worth of transfer funds, they object like snivelling schoolgirls to Headmaster FA.
Good luck with that, how terrible if the outcome of this season’s efforts is a place in the play-offs, which Fulham win
Well I’m cool with the forward line but Ryan must have run over Nuno’s dog to get dropped for Danny.
Oh well, so long as he remenbers not to lunge!
UTW
This game really worries me. Got a feeling a big feck up of enormous proportions is about to happen. Sorry guys, but I can’t shake them old feelings that we are all used to. Wolves, please prove me wrong.
Damn! I’m late with my prediction.
I blame the snow. Money, yes I blame Moxey. I blame……..the ref!
3-0 to Wolves and the icing on the cake is that Benik is on the scoresheet.
Back to our brilliant best.
All doubts gone
All panic gone
All tension gone
FORGIVE ME NUNO FOR I HAVE SINNED !!!
OODCL
Oh, BTW – Ruben Neves is back on Saturday – Feckin brilliant !!
Awesome display, good finish Benik. Wobble over,if that’s what it was.
Fuckin……..A……..Baby that will shut up the moaning B…..ds………complaining to the EFL and the F.A now lets do the same to Villa another club who have been shit stirring…..!
Last 6 games. 11 points
Some blip
Nearly there
Utw
Nice one Marney…
I know afobe was hot tonight but did anyone see the steam coming off his head when he presented MOM to n’daiye?
Watch out Vile. You are just another shit championship pile of bollocks. The real deal are back and we are coming for ya.
Oh! Benik Afobe
Oh! Benik Afobe
Not quite a full house yet but played a winning hand.
Great win Benik is back reckon he will rock on now. Comments from the Leeds owner is out of order hope Fosun serve a writ on the bastard.
Wolves Aye We.
What color are your trousers now, Brucie babe??
PPG says Derby at home will be promotion party on 10th April.
Powerful display tonight,it should’ve been more but who cares Happy as Larry.
In Nuno we surely trust.
Who am I to question this man.
Iv’e had a great feckin night, accident on the A38 delayed us long enough to get off the coach, into the ground 20 minutes before ko. I love that.
On the terraces, what a hoot, loved ripping the P out of the Leeds fans, they looked totally spent as Benik dinked the keeper. 12th man got behind the boys Nuno, because the boys upped their game and got us pumped. Take note boss, your team performs and we bring the roof down, silencing the Leeds boys who waved their scarfs like cheerleaders at an American college game was so satisfying.
Neves back Saturday, three more points ahead of Veela st 8pm will make my Millennium.
Didn’t with the Euromillions last night, but tonight was feckin special. Leeds fans are turning on their chairman for his dickhead comments, the true fans know when they’ve been outplayed.
We’re coming for you,
We’re coming for you.
Aston Veela, weem coming for you.
It was only Leeds, not Burton Albion 😉
That was bloody wonderful to watch. Back to our best in all honesty should have been 6 or 7.
Onwards to the Vile and see Terry ripped a new one by Cav & Co. Oh happy days.
Just off to take the piss out of my Leeds Supporting newsagent, boy am I gonna enjoy this.
Brilliant performance from start to finish apart from some terrible finishing could and should of been 7 or 8 0
That is y afobe should be playing that simple one two with jota over the top, finish was sublime! It must be frightening for the opposition really when u can bring on Costa afobe and mgw late on
Really proud of them all last night
Cmon my babies?
