I’ve still got a lot of love for Mick McCarthy.

And what is so painfully clear in retrospect is that he was the glue that held our club together during those six seesaw years.
After he left and right up until the Thelwell/Jackett axis was formed, there was only the mirage of leadership.
You might not like his methods, his product or his belligerent, borderline arrogant soundbites, but you’ve got to respect the package.
He’s a chief, a dictator, a linchpin. The rock solid foundation upon which good things can be built.
If your club is flapping in the wind, as Wolves were back in 2006 and Ipswich were just two years ago, he will anchor the ship and give clear direction.
Always his way. No compromises.
Ipswich
Mick’s playing with a handicap at Portman Road and boy does he want us to know about it?
Every interview I’ve read or listened to, he makes glib reference to the fact he’s spent circa 50p on his squad compared to Town’s promotion-chasing rivals.
It’s a fair point of course and I do think the team he’s put together for sweet Fanny Adams is commendable. Similar in fact to what he did at Wolves in that majestic first season.
He’s also getting every drop out of players like Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick, as well as some familiar names like Stephen Hunt and serial goalscorer Christophe Berra.
Their home form is impressive. Four wins, two draws and just the one defeat in seven matches.
If they win again tomorrow, they’ll go above Wolves in the table courtesy of a superior goal difference. I suspect Mick will be acutely aware of this fact.
Wolves
At least Ipswich have injury problems too. They’re without five players for this one. Wolves meanwhile will be without Scott Golbourne and Nouha Dicko.

Hoping Sako starts obviously and I’d like to see RvLP given another chance on the opposite flank. Neither Clarke or McAlinden were pulling up trees on Saturday so maybe Sagbo is worth another look?
The gaffer
Predictions
Not many people thought we’d draw against Blues (let alone fail to score) so it was slim pickings in the PL.
Well done to the few who did add to their score.
The result of this one will almost certainly come down to who can best enforce their game on the opposition.
We know what to expect from a Mick McCarthy side and generally, teams that have got up in Wolves’ faces, have done pretty well.
But if Sako plays and Wolves can get a foot on the ball, we’ll cause them lots of problems.
Think I’ll go for a score draw.
2-2
Up The Wolves!

I havent been keeping up on scores sadly but I will guess….hmmm, sneaky 1-0 win to the Wolves here! If Ipswich play the type of football Mick had here I fancy us but you cant really deny what he does in this league is effective! It is with Ipswich, it was with Wolves so it will be far from easy…
IN KENNY WE TRUST
Another bore draw!
Sorry I can’t agree with you about Mad Mick. He started well but was far to cock sure of himself that when he lost the way,and he lost it big time, there was a scattergun approach to recruitment that ended up as a complete disaster. He will be certain that he knows how to play against us and with a bit of luck will get it completely wrong. That will certainly put a smile on my face.
Difficult game this one, just hope we edge it!
Although MM didn’t adapt well to life in the EPL, he certainly knows his way round the Championship. KJ is surely building on more substantial foundations which seem to be transferrable between divisions (and hopefully the EPL!). We’ve had a few hiccups but they don’t invalidate the sound progress that’s been made.
If we play as we have shown we can then we should just manage a win. The “just” is because ND won’t be playing and we have yet to find a practical way round this.
Can see us keeping another clean sheet but hope we can get 1
Big positive thoughts here needed.
Perhaps it will be down to Sako KMac Henry Edwards VLP to have blinders..this is when we need another striker buts that’s stating the obvious …
This is a tough one ..it’s all about the break to snatch a couple of goals because they are going to come at us big time..
.
COYW
McCarthy is doing what he’s always the most capable of doing and good luck to him, there’ll always be work for him in the Championship
Will be close but I think we might edge it with some luck.
I missed most of Mick’s time at the Molineux, other than the odd US Fox Soccer live TV games that were aired during the 3 year premier league stint.
He seemed to have either likers or haters from the opinions I read on various online forums.
The fact remains, he is the only manager in recent history to have guided our club to promotion to the top flight and sustained a relatively lengthy spell within it, no matter how skin of the teeth survival was each season.
For this, I think “Mad Mick” gets my nod, despite some apparent failings in style of play and what turned out to be very questionable acquisitions.
He hasn’t done too bad since taking over proceedings at a struggling Ipswich either.
Results in this league are proving ever increasingly difficult to predict, and I think this fixture will be no different.
Have go go with a Wolves win however, but airing on the side of caution in regards to the margin after our ineptitude at the weekend.
Hopefully some key players will return and my pessimism will prove me wrong.
Come on Me Babbies!!!
It’s far from top gear for us at the moment but a draw here won’t look too bad come the end of the season I reckon
if we can’t beat Brum at home, can’t see us winning at Ipswich. Hoping for at least a point.
Agree in the last Thirty odd years shamefully we have only had 4 seasons in the top flight and 3 of those were under MM.
Any “manager” who thinks Ward is a footballer has to be from another planet, or Yorkshire.
The wheels fell off McDickwadhead’s pram when he put out the reserves at Old Trafford, when we had a good spell going, and man Utd were not on form.
We could have won that game, by going all out. Instead the clown played Meirhoffer.
Yes, McCarthorse is a clown, and always will be.
The wheels fell off, and he spent the next two and a half seasons throwing all his toys out, just keeping his pet dolls, like Ward, Berra etc. etc.
The bloke is an absolute joke, good for some “eeh bah gum” soundbites, abusing the fans, and not much else.
Yes, he got us into the Prem, but ran around like a headless chicken with a jumping jack up his arse for three years after.
His bunch of tractor shaggers need to be put firmly into the Sufflok shit tomorrow, as we march inexorably on to the title.
Talking of Ward, loffed my head off watching him at Arsenal, just waving his arms about after all three goals.
Great comedy.
But, to darken my mood, , I only just watched match of the day, as I been bizzy all weekend, and saw that the shit spawnily won away with the flukeyist own goal in the history of the universe.
Fuck ’em.
Who is this Ward and where is this Old Stratford ?
If we can tighten up across the field we will do this one.
Mick’s not done too bad landing a job like Ipswich – not a bad football club. But compared to The Wolves they’re nothing and MM was a very lucky sod to have been given a chance to manage our god wonderful football club! Problem was that he was such a pighead that he actually believed we were lucky to have him! What a deluded Yorkshire so and so. But having said all that what followed him, present incumbent excepted, made MM look like Rinus Michels! In Kenny we trust (sort of given the tinkering and not playing RVLP, SG, our strongest possible 11, etc.). Come on the old gold n black!
We need to start winning again.
Tight, tough game. Clear penalty denied to us when Berra wrestles Batth to the ground at a corner.
Agree with your sentiments Ash.
MM will have the Tractor Boys up for this one.
No Dicko = no striking threat and no outlet = ball keeps coming back into our penalty area.
Hope I’m wrong, but can’t see us avoiding defeat – prove me wrong lads, please!
UTW!
Problem with Mick is his style is only suited for lower divisions and the very bottom of the Premier League, if that.
That’s fine, if that’s what you want but if you want to progress up to the top half of the Premier League, you can’t.
Kenny was fortunate that we were in League One when he took over and he was given the time and lower league quality opposition to allow him to change the style of play and get players who could play that style.
Without Dicko i can’t see us winning this one.
Sako with the goal (if he he starts)
utw
A boring prediction I know, but without the energy of Dicko I’d settle for a piont.
Think we’ll have too much quality for these tractor pullers
Firstly it’s b*llocks that Mick has spent ‘nothing’ at Ipswich, as he has players on loan they would have cost them a fee.
Anyway, Mick’s mind games are irrelevant.
They’re a form (ish) side, and as such are a threat, however we should be strong enough.
I’d like to see Golbourne and Sagbo play – especially Sagbo, as what’s the point in loaning him and not using him?
Looking forward to this one, hoping Sagbo steps it up.
Not optimistic about this one I’m afraid. I’d also like to bring some balance to the anti- McCarthy rants. There are facts and opinions. Fact McCarthy got us into the pl and kept us there for 3 seasons. KJ has got us into the championship. Mccarthy made some great signings and some unsuccessful ones, KJ has done and will do the same (Clarke, sagbo?). Both McCarthy and KJ took over a club in dire straits and demonstrated magnificent leadership in turning us around. My opinion is that KJ plays far more attractive and sustainable football but until he gets us into the pl and keeps us there, his achievements cannot yet be compared to McCarthy. Might be a hard pill for some to swallow but that’s the fact of the matter
I had nothing against McCarthy as a Championship manager. Got us promoted and probably one of the best managers you could get if you are trying to do the Championship on a budget. There is no doubt in my mind that we would never have dropped to Div 1 under his guidance. Problem with Mick was his ability to manage in the Premier League (not the Championship) when he needed a lot more creativity than yelling at players to put a shift in!
To be fair, Kenny has yet to earn the same achievements and show he can do better if promoted to the EPL before I can put him above Mick. He has done a remarkable job putting together the shattered pieces left over from a double relegation, pulled us out of the abyss of League 1, and has us poised in 4th with excellent prospects for the season. But what happens next is still a mystery to me. Is the squad strong enough? Will he be backed by M&M when needed? Is he doomed to the same fate that befell Mick, or can he really do better on a shoestring?
Time will tell … for now, he just has to beat Ipswich. Let’s hope his team selection, and the team’s performance tomorrow, are better than Saturday’s.
GoWolves!
The fact fans still want to argue after many other managers have been long forgotten makes it difficult to rubbish everything he was and did. Like Thomas i just think he had some strengths as well as many weaknesses.
Pretty sure when can stop goals but not so sure we can score them without Dicko.
Here’s hoping.
All this talk of the McCarthy error, sorry era, reading this blog the jury is out, quite a lot for and quite a lot against, my take on it is, when we had the Jody Craddock’s Bham Hospital fund raiser in the close season he got a great reception from the fans he was chased up and down the touch line for his autograph and responded well to his treatment.
I always thought well he’s our manager so support him, but found him to be the most boring individual Iv’e ever seen apart from Martin O’Neill, now there was a bloke that could dry paint.
But Big Mick, he did the job, got us up into the PL, kept us there by the skin of our teeth and then lost the plot big style, now he’s in the perfect job, well suited for him and TO’C tucked away in the land of tractors, combine harvesters and crop rotation, God I bet the local pubs are exciting places to be.
If the news is to be believed he has no team to field tonight as they all have caught a thigh strain bug that’s going about in Tractorville, so a Wolves win should be on the cards, but in true Big Mick style he said he’s playing 3 up front, so we should have a field day, reap the harvest and plant the seeds for Derby at the weekend.
But I bet what will really take place is, they park the combine in front of the goals.
Dangerous Dave, Sako and Golbourne to score tonight, now there’s a wish.
🙂
We have to score on a more regular basis.
I saw Sigurdarson played the hole match against Stroemsgodset on Sunday.
Looks strong and fit, but didnt score.
Molde have one leage match and the cupfinal before ending this season.
Then Sigurdarson is back in Wolves?
Last saturday really knocked the stuffing out of me.
Lots of questions which may get answered tonight.
Do we need a striker – don’t need to answer that and didn’t months ago.
Sneaky 1-0. Dave Edwards with the goal. Batth and Landell better get the anti-aircraft batteries out and prepare themselves for the bombardment
I think a much better performance and more importantly a couple of goals will see us head back out of the fens with 3 points tonight.
Have heard a roumour that Border Wolf’s dog is playing up front. Certainly has more bite than Sagbo.
After Saturday I just do not know how to call this one so will go for a draw, in the hope that the son in law will still speak to me if we manage a win.
Going for a draw
I’ve got a sinking feeling Berra will manage to get on the score sheet. I just hope it is by sticking it into his own net.
I have written off Saturday’s game.
Wolves 1 Ipswich 0
A few weeks ago I couldn’t wait for this fixture, a comfortable win and a demonstration to Mick McCarthy of how football should be played.
Now after a series of woeful signings and strange team selections, I fear the worse.
All is not well in the state of Molineux. I’m sure there’s something going on behind the scenes.
I can’t bare the thought of losing this, so I’ll settle for a point.
Another banana skin waiting to be stepped on, but what the hell – they’ve lost half their team.
I too, have a lot of respect (I’m not sure I’d quite call it love) for Big Mick.
He raised the profile of our club in getting us into the Premiership and he kept our profile high while we were there because he was a popular ‘go to’ for the press when they were in need of a sound bite.
The fact that his tactics were found wanting amongst such august company has been well chronicled – enough said.
It’s those very tactics which could cause us problems tonight.
I’ve thought for some time that when a long high ball is hoofed up the pitch, we can panic a bit.
Last Saturday was no exception.
A couple of times, DB in particular, let the ball bounce before attempting to clear it. Not the best idea in that sort of situation.
On another occasion, Ikeme had to come racing out of his area like a very firm buttocked express train (The PMDG’er’s description, not mine) and miskicked horribly.
There are no prizes for guessing which tactics Clive’s favourite manager will employ tonight.
Let’s hope we can cope.
Having said all that, I think we’ve got enough to squeeze a win here.
Sako and Edwards have to start.
I also agree with you Thomas when you put Van The Man and Sagbo in the starting line up.
When Sagbo came on late in the Birmingham game, he just gave me the impression that he might do something with a bit of game time under his belt.
And surely we can’t play so badly twice in four days?
…Can we?
No!
“And stop calling me Shirley.”
(Sorry about that. Watched ‘Airplane’ again last night for the numptyfirst time).
A narrow win then.
As much as we love Danny Bhatt he does appear to have an Achilles heel, the inability to run with an attacking player for a Lobbed ball. He can’t run and watch the ball at the same time, he quite often gets mugged. Is he frightened of running into an inanimate object out there in that great expanse of a pitch? (Leon Clarke or Sagbo).
🙂
Love this blog… The debate around McCarthy’s reign vs KJ is a cracker.
I agree you cannot compare KJ against MM “until” he has made it to the PL in most respects. However the differences away from the 1st team are the most exciting (reminds me of when we had Turnip in charge).
With KJ’s vision of how the club should be run from the bottom up, this will put WW in the best health for future generations. Whereas MM did have a focus “only” on the 1st team. (If you were not in 1st team you simply did not exist.)
Don’t get me wrong, I quite liked having MM at the club as I liked his straigh talking, no bullshit answers to the press. However I do feel he should have been replaced a year earlier with another strong manager. someone like “Pullis” (even though I don’t like his style), would have taken us a few more places higher and then once established another manager (such as Moyes) with higher expectations to transform a steady ship into a good mid-table team and then the next stage with another manager (such as what the big boys take on, to finish the job as a regular top 6 team).
But all of that is hindsight and wishful thinking. Instead we have a manager that in conjunction with Thelwell has bought on side (“Nick Juniors” – otherwise known as The Fat Controller and Bob The Builder) and transformed the whole ethos in moving the club into a position that is the envy of most Premiership Clubs.
Just look at at Swanea of whom have KJ’s mould and they are now looking at selling off part of their club (even with all the Sky money they get) to get an academy to compete with us.
We will be better than the Swansea’s, Newcastle’s etc if we stick with KJ’s ethos as it is being done in the right order.
Look at our goal scorer last night in the U21’s… I feel he’ll be in the team before the end of this season (or out on loan), With possibly at least one other pushing for a bench place.
So my answer to the best manager has to be KJ even though he has not achieved the Premier (yet).
Shrews.
Al Jolson, God now he had a voice?
Sorry, just had to do it mate.
(Swansea)
Good piece again.
Think we can pinch this one. I agree with Thomas on Mick M got us to the PL and kept us there for 3 seasons so will always have a special place in my books.
Hope we can put on a better performance than Saturday and get Sako on for the whole game and even Dave Edwards as it seem to change the game on Saturday when they came on.
Hopefully without Dicko the other strikers can step up and actually put one in the back of the net.
COYW
Take a draw for this one.
Saturday’s result was a blip, and with an almost fully fit squad I’m betting that Wolves can drag out a result from a tight and combative game. And how times have changed that we can still get a point from a blip.
seems like the most likely result
Whatever people’s opinions of MM are he will always have my upmost respect for getting us into and keeping us in the Prem League. This was quite an achievement. He took over the reins after Wolves were dumped by the high and mighty Glenda Hoddle – does anyone know why he dumped us? For MM to come in and turn the club around the man deserves a lot of credit.
Tonight’s match is going to be no different from all the other matches in this league, albeit with the addition of MM to add spice to the mix.
We know how he plays, he knows how we play. Both teams will be up for this match and no matter that MM says he has no grudge to bear against Wolves this is one match where he wants to spank us – hard.
As for the team, I would expect Clarke to play the lone ranger up front with, hopefully, Edwards in the hole behind him. Sako and Henry on the wings. Hopefully MacDonald will have found his passing boots and get back on track.
At the time of typing this there is 1 station due to broadcast via WiziWig. Fingers crossed they do and I can see my Wolves.
The link is below but please, please be careful what you click on, all those stupid pop-ups about flash player/codec etc needing updates are just crap.
http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?matchid=285451&part=sports
A close call but Wolves to come away with a 2-1 win.
Sako and Clarke to put the ball in the old onion net.
Onwards & Upwards
🙂
*No grudge to Bear ? What a knobby – I ment bare
Tough game. Think we will struggle tonight without dicko running opposition players out of position and making space for others to come into play.
Good to read the generally warm comments about Mick Mc and, as usual, the DOOGooder describes his impact and status in the club admirably. Jody Craddock’s print of him (MMcC, not the DG!) in typical pose is on the wall as I write! His antics gave MrsPW more amusement than watching the actual game! But the current regime is much more geared to the modern age and much more exciting.
I watched some of the best football of my life when living in Suffolk in the late 70s/early 80s – Bobby Robson’s Ipswich. Wonderful stuff. And now they have a manager superbly adapted to the dirty business of getting out of the Championship (and possibly coming back soon). After Saturday, I have a real fear we might come out of this 3-game pre-bloody international break, stretch with, at best, 3pts, and 6 dropped, which really shows the effect of the 1pt/3pt system.
We certainly need more penetration than Saturday – defence was ok, but against a poor attack; McDonald had a very poor game and his approach suggested to me that he didn’t have much faith in the strike force. McAlinden showed promise, but is obviously green at this level and Leon showed his usual Molineux-phobia. I reckon we need Van La P for forward thrust and Sagbo in the hope his experience and size might tell. We can be sure Macca will get lots of attention tonight. And what price a Hunt goal and our strikers coming out on the wrong end of a Berra all-in wrestling bout in the area, with no Michael Oliver to give the pen?!
So I reckon a tough draw, and I’ll hope that Derby is the normally happy hunting ground of recent years – it’s my local. I’ve enjoyed bragging rights for a while, and have my Wolves end tickets, but they’re a different proposition under McLaren.
And finally, while I’m rambling away and at risk of being cast as an old fart…….the suggestion seems to be that the obnoxious interruptions to the WW1 commemoration came from (or at least started in) the Birmingham section. As the silence ended, the Sky cameras panned to the South Bank and a bunch of Wolves fans gesticulating obscenely at the Blues fans. That may have been a reaction to the interruptions, but it really didn’t reflect well on the club.
Mick will, as usual, play percentage football, banging long-balls up to Murphy. But, as we know to our distress, his teams are vulnerable to counter-attacking (see WBA’s last visit to Molineux – sorry Clive).
I think we can nick this one on the counter, but it will require pace and that may mean no Clarke or MacAlinden, so Sagbo to get a game up front, (tho’ whether he is any quicker I don’t know). We’ll probably keep Henry on the right as he’s playing well. Personally, I’d love to see RvLP given a run through the middle, either in Dicko’s role or ‘in the hole’, but KJ seems to think he’s not yet ready for the physical stuff and Mick’s teams will certainly not lack for physical effort.
I think we’ll get summit down there and what a good result it would be if we did. Come on boys let’s have 3 more points on the board
Good summary Thomas about Mick’s reign at Wolves. He overachieved until his last but one season. For that he deserves our eternal thanks. His final season started so well (top of the PL in the August) but the signing of Roger “I’m only in it for the money” Johnson was the catalyst for dressing room discord and ultimately the double relegation. The silver lining in the cloud was the advent of KJ. In the battle tonight between Super Mick and King Kenny, I think Ipswich will edge it unless we have Sako playing. Clarke and McAlinden are just not going to hack it at the top end of the Championship. I’d like to see Sako and Sagbo playing together for at least 45 minutes.
This one has a draw written all over it, so lets be positive and go for a win. We missed van Parra`s pace on Sunday, so get him on the pitch as soon as possible. No reason we can`t beat these, if only to remind MM wolves are bigger than he was. Thanks for the adventure Mick but everybody has moved on, and its a new season and a new story with KJ. Oh and we are now playing football, pass and move instead of lumping it forward and hoping for a break, that alone says we ought to get the victory tonight.
Without Dicko the options are limited, but I think we’ll scrape it.
Saw Fletcher do the business last night – could do with him back in our squad or someone like him asap.
The apathy of playing a team who shipped 8 goals the previous week will be gone tonight and the players will be back in for a fight against a good side. We will win comfortably as we have against most of our promotion rivals.
Not optimistic. Who’s going to score our goals with Dicko out? Clarke will still be on the halfway line messing with his gloves when Sacko puts his cross into the area. What a joke he is. A Berra goal to sink us 🙁
Sadly my dog will not be starting up front as the Pieman was too mean to pay the wages of a tin of Winalot!!
In the interest of staying married I’m going for a draw but please please let’s win this one or my husband is going to make me suffer!!
UTW
Can see us catching Ipswich a couple of times on the counter attack.
I would also play Sagbo (to the exclusion of Clarke and McAlinden) tonight as he is more than capable of wrestling with Berra. that I must see.
Hard fought win for me..
Some interesting comments on Mick McCarthy and his time at Wolves.
(1) He did well at WWFC and is well respected.
(2) His teams always put a shift in and perform above their weight.
(3) Yorkshire is on a different planet.
I agree with all three.
I remember when WWFC were promoted and during the expected pitch invasion a fan grabbed Mick. Mick’s face was full of anger and venom as he tried to punch the supporter.
The Birmingham result was more to do with the way Birmingham played rather than Wolves lack of chances, we could easily have won 2-0.
I expect normal service to be resumed!!!!
I’m with the Mick is thick brigade.
If he’d been less arrogant we might have stayed in the PL.
Think we are playing like an ordinary team without Sako and Dicko, or even one of them.
Jackett needs to get creative striker wise…
Think we will lose and hope I am wrong…..
I predict a 1-1 draw, with Mad Mick playing a 4-4-2, Christophe Berra scoring for them despite being lucky to stay on the pitch after rugby tackling Leon Clarke at 3 consecutive corners, and K Mac planting a long ranger in the top corner.
Ex Manager at their place, no striker of any quality, ex players striving to show us we were wrong (even tho we know better now) we’re going to fall short.
Prove me wrong boys.
I’ll settle for a Steady Eddie draw. On that note RIP Eddie Stuart. Before my time but a legend all the same.
As we continue to lack a goalscorer is it not baffling that Sigurdarson was sent away without too much of a look in under Jackett? Perhaps he never showed too much but would be worth a go at the moment I feel. Anyway, fancy the draw tonight.
I can’t bring myself to predict a loss or another draw so I’m going to go big, and go for a tactical score that no-one has gone for. That said, there’s probably a reason for that!!
It’s going to happen soon, we’re going to ‘click’ and let’s hope it starts tonight
Well it’s hard to imagine Berra not grabbing a goal in this one despite drawing a blank in 200-odd appearances for us.
I strongly feel we have progressed a long long way in terms of the football Kenny’s got this side playing since the closing months of the MM era. As much as those 3 years in the prem can be seen as a great success compared to the 2 decades before, we treaded water in that league for far too long against even it’s bottom sides. In the end the squad that went down was far too familiar to the one that won promotion 3 years earlier which is telling.
Genuine investment in January in an effictive striker and I really feel this squad can properly get going in the 2nd half of the season. Until then we may have to scrap our way through results like this.
This could go either way but I’d like to keep optimistic.
On a side note: Thomas, could you please look into my predictions, I believe I should be at 12 points, after the Leeds game? Cheers!
Let’s face it both Mick and Kenny had to manage under the tight finances imposed on them, but Kenny has a more attractive approach to the game.
Clarke disappointed yet again on Saturday – what is it with the gloves ? I thought he may do well against the Blues but it’s true they set out to defend.
As ever hoping for some 7’s and 8’s tonight -radio on WM and TvVon Liverpool, life is sweet.
I join Exiled Wolf in paying tribute to Eddie Stuart, a great defender (right back or centre half).
Those terms used show my age and yes I remember watching him along with all the greats during the fifties. Then Stan Cullis earned respect by achieving unparalleled success during his 15 or 16 years in management at Wolves. I hope that Kenny Jacket can repeat just half of that in a long tenure at the club.
A win for The Wolves tonight.
I would just like to add my tribute to Eddie Stuart, like Lynx I watched him in the 50’s part of one of our greatest teams.
Williams, Start, Shorthouse, Slater, Wright, Flowers, Hancox, Broadbent, Wilshaw, Mullen. What we would not give for that team now. They could at least score goals.
I also remember him providing me with a complete autograph album of the team via an Aunt who knew him quite well. A great player and a gentleman, RIP.
Hard to see us winning without Dicko up top
They want it more , but I back canny Kenny for the tough away draw.
Love is a bit strong – cheers Mick
Two Berra og’s for Wolves
Think we might nick it, but it will be a tough one
Jury is out on the better Manager = has to be shaded by KJ fractionally, although you can’t take away what Mick did.
Whatever did happen to hoddle? Still, all water under the bridge, cant complain at all. We might moan about needing a striker etc, but much happier now than I was this time 2 seasons ago!!
I’ve still got a lot of love for Mick McCarthy, too.
-even more for Kenny right now tho. Hope we pass them off the park tonight.
Goooooooooooooaaaaaaaallllllllll – Sako
Think Dicko has had this injury for quite some time. Look how many games he has been subbed.
Criminal that we did not get a proper striker in at start of season. Tried to do it on the cheap with Clarke, but that won’t work.
We’ve done it with a keeper, but not so quick where there’s money involved! Poor from Board.
Poor from the board .. does it surprise you … NO .. they’ve missed opportunity after opportunity to spend some money to create a good team but NAH !!!
I was not fussed with Delort, but I would have welcomed Assombalonga, Wilson, Wells or Bamford though. Even Woods on loan would have been decent. We were rumoured to have had talks with them all, and all of them we’re let to slip through our fingers.
Very very poor, from those responsible – whoever that is!
I still secretly like MM. Let’s nip in, pick his pocket and run.
don’t think this will be a football classic
Hoping for a win, but settling for a draw.
Wolves to bag all 3 points with the three goals in the first half
Berra says ‘I wasn’t even in the squad’. Want to know why Mr B ? Because you were bloody useless that’s why. MM will have them fired up,no doubt but so will KJ. I think this a game Wolves could win but I’m going for the draw.
Hope I’m wrong but not optimistic about this one.
I’m afraid its a negative for me tonight after the no show on Saturday, really hope I’m wrong
as I would love us to smack a couple or past them just to wind that( numpty big headed-nosed b#####d) UP.
Don’t forget he’s the one who gave MOST those second rate player’s with the big contracts, and we’re still suffering for that now, I never wanted him never liked him..Thats in the past and that’s where it should stay.UTW.
no recognised goal scorer, up,against an ex manager, we all know what that means. Hope I’m totally wrong.
This will be a tough one, hope we get one over Super Mick
UTW
Respect to MM, should never have gone. KJ yet to get us up to the Premier League but looking good. For me Henry looks on form and quality… what about RVLP in his old role as a striker ? What’s clear is we need a pacey replacement for Dicko. Sagbo looks a waste of time; Clarke doesn’t get the service and McAlinden too raw
Still, 1-0 to us . Thanks Bacary.
Not positive tonight. Can’t see us scoring and not convinced we’ll be able to hold them at bay. Sorry but it’s a defeat for me.
Bad night for the Wolves I’m afraid. I think they will be up for it more than us. They’ll want to shove three goals up our bottoms.. It will be a chippy game with someone shown the red card. I hope its a player from the tractor boys.. Hope I’m dead wrong on the score…
Urrg, some pretty poor performances recently. I foresee Sako starting and getting injured…
An early Sako set piece special will allow us be compact, nullifying Mick’s lump-it-and-hope tactics before a Batth header from a corner will put it beyond doubt with 10 to go. Injury time consolation for my namesake Christophe B.
So want this to be so. Lets prove how far we have come under Jackett. COYW
Sagbolicious hat-trick to sink Clippy & Mick.
I think this will be close but we should win.
Score draw for me,which wouldn’t be a bad result in the circumstances.
I’m also a Mick McCarthy sympathiser.Happy memories of his tenure and, although it ended in tears it doesn’t mean the good times weren’t enjoyable. Thanks Mick but I hope we win.
Agree with Thomas and the DG about Sagbo, Thomas’ team is our best bet at the moment. I for one think that Dave the Dangerous and Sako will score. An o.g. from Berra would be great.
It would be good to see Siggy back, he is a good fottballer, who never had a run in the team.
Wolves = silky passing
Tractor Boys= agricultural hoofing
Saturday is history, just like the McCarthy era. Long live king Kenny I say.
I’m too late to make a prediction but I felt I had to comment on the McCarthy legacy.
Firstly he was a good manager for wolves let’s face it if we’d been told when he took over that within the next year we’d be promoted as champions and then spend a couple of seasons mixing it with the big boys taking the scalp of utd and city on the way we would have laughed.
I still think for all his flaws we would have scored more points in our relegation season under him rather than Tc. Maybe not enough to stay up but we would have made a fight of it. His teams had guts and work rate if nothing else.
That said I think if he’s backed (and that’s a big if) KJ could have a bigger legacy. His passing possession football could be the foundation for years of good teams especially as he’s put that philosophy into the youth set up.
With mick we got tothe promised land only to end up short. With kj hopefully we can get there and stay there.
All hail the mighty clipboard!
Oh well. Bring on Derby!!
O shit – sounded like it should have been 5-1 anyway
Just left the ground, here’s the summing up.
Met with Steve showcase, he’s one of our own.
Met withSteve Showcase, he’s one of our own.
The Match,
Wolves 2 Wolves 1
McDonald gift to MCCarthy.
Jacobs peach of a goal
Evans scores for McCarthy
There’s only one team in this league we fear, ourselves, what are they doing.
Nice to talk with you Steve Showcase, shame about the game spoilt a good night.
🙁
Sorry, Henry, Peach of a goal, easy mistake.
Dohhhh
What a shit result, just one poxy shot on target all game, and to lose against Mcnobhead.
We need to spend some real money and quick, we are just 2 maybe 3 signings away from winning this league and for whatever reason Morgan won’t spend. It’s starting to piss me off, Kenny ain’t being backed, plain and simple, If we fail to make even the playoffs, I’ll blame Morgan and nobody else. Cheap Bastard Morgan.
Mick was always going to have a plan and it worked a treat,
always seems to get the better of Jackett,
Nobbled Edwards early on and then just bullied us into submission with a typical championship 4-4-2 performance which we know is great in this league but shows why he will never make a great PL manager..
Injury list now growing by the game Goldbourne, Edwards, Dicko, Sako and Sagbo not match fit…
Ummm… This small young inexperienced squad is doing well to hang on to the coat tails of the top 6…
But for How Long.
Nice to meet you too Stuart, nxt time in better circumstances..this was dire to me tonight..Prob the worst first half performance this season too.
We are tiring out our linchpins..ie DB Kmac (really looks shagged and worst I’ve seen him play) def Sako
too..they all play their socks off..
We have an injury crisis..Golbourne Ricketts Dicko Edwards.
We need to buy in Jan or I don’t think
We are talented enough as a full team to go up (and stay)
.
After seeing them win the league last year I thought I would never say it but I reckon it’s true..
We have the financial resources to strengthen so we better do it….
Steve.
No denying it we can paper over the cracks but as you say it was pretty dire.
I really did enjoy the U21s last night far better than this, as my wife said, ” we were playing like amateurs tonight. ” we were mugged by Big Mick.
They may be young guys but U21s Conor Hunt and Ibriham Keita leave Evans and Leon standing in terms of skill on the ball and finishing.
Kenny was feckin livid with them post match interview, his body language and facial expressions said it all.
We’re In danger of imploding.
You just can’t find a Stevie Bull when you need one.
Derby will be interesting to say the least.
:-(((
