After securing an unlikely place on Wolves’ Fans Parliament in September, one troubled supporter implored me to ask Jez Moxey what his aims and visions are for the future.

‘Everton’, came the prompt reply, just weeks before an injury to Nouha Dicko reduced our forward line to Exeter.
Maybe the fan knew something I didn’t.
On a night when Patrick Bamford scored again and 10 goal Callum Wilson set-up Bournemouth’s second goal to go top, Kenny Jackett watched the feeble Leon Clarke shuffle around the Portman Road pitch as if we’re supposed to believe we’re challengers.
After what sounded like a limp, meek surrender to an Ipswich team who now go above us, we cannot be serious about anything other than consolidation this season.
Not when one solitary hamstring strain renders our entire team toothless, who couldn’t breach a porous Brummy backline and managed one shot on target tonight (presumably the goal which wasn’t infact a shot).
Actions speak louder than words and the absurd loan signing of Yannick Sagbo – who didn’t even make the subs bench – resonates more than bombastic claims of replicating Everton.
Kenny Jackett cannot be happy with such an apparent lack of support, not least when two identified targets opted for AFC Bournemouth and Middlesbrough instead, the current top two teams in the league funnily enough. Go figure.
(Did Huddersfield Town seriously pay higher wages for the services of Grant Holt, or must we presume that Kenny preferred a player like Sagbo?)
And how Mick McCarthy must have loved every minute.
We fail to expose the leaden footed Christophe Berra for what he is, while the positively antiquated Stephen Hunt revels in his one hyperactive game of note amid 10 outings of crap.
It’s bad enough looking so bereft in the final third, but worse still that we gift Ipswich two goals with the type of profligacy we made an artform under McCarthy…Giving the ball away.
How we’ve drooled over Kevin McDonald for so long, partly for a night like this when Mick is forced to watch what progressive football is all about, orchestrated by our Scottish magician.
Typical that McDonald is caught in possession during his stickiest patch in a Wolves shirt and Ipswich score.
We couldn’t even flaunt a mobile, talented left back as recompense for years of Stephen Ward torture.
Nope. We were worthy losers and continued to look ragged after our first encounter with injury induced adversity.
That’s the reality folks. And if Jez Moxey likens it to ‘Everton’ then excuse me for taking exception.

Totally agree.
A few additional thoughts:
* We were lucky with injuries last year. Very lucky in fact. None of our key players missed a sustained run of matches. We haven’t been as lucky this year and it’s costing us. Just goes to show that luck plays an important role.
* That said, even though there are replacements for the likes of Edwards, Golbourne and Dicko, none are like-for-like, not only in terms of quality but also style. We don’t have that pacey forward to come in or another Dave Edwards that clocks up the miles in midfield and I don’t need to tell anyone that Rowe isn’t Golbourne. That fundamentally changes the dynamic of the team. Without those three we look considerably more laboured in our approach.
* Of course Macca and Evans need to do better in possession, but if we’re trying to play possession football then there will be times we get caught out, particularly in midfield. Every team in the division knows we play through McDonald, so he will always be targeted. The challenge for the team and individuals is to go up a gear.
I suppose the one silver lining will be that January isn’t too far away, and Dicko should return before then. We’d supposedly have money to spend, and I would be looking to move on the dead wood like Clarke & McAlinden (either on loan or permanently), and bring in a new striker.
I’m sorry to say it, but no way can we rely on those two to score goals when we don’t have Dicko.
If Callum Wilson and Assombalonga (who I know is off the boil a bit now) can make the step up from League 1 to Champ, then perhaps we could look at any of the top scorers there come January – Eoin Doyle, Jonathan Forte, and Joe Garner, are the three leaders at present, and the first two are quite big units.
Eoin Doyle, Jonathan Forte, and Joe Garner …. they all available on a free then ?
Don’t think it about luck Thomas, its a tougher league, every side seems to be more physical than we no matter who we play against. As for players being like for like, I don’t think our squad is big enough to compete with the riggers of championship football at the moment.
Maybe the loan market now or if we take a chance in January sale.
Either way Morgan AND Moxey must invest if we want to be in with a chance of the playoffs.
Ben got it spot on…15 of us are off to Derby on Saturday just hope we perform something like.
Great summary Ben .. I’m even more riled than you mate.
For a start .. we’ve championed on the Thelwell/Jackett formula of creating dossiers of the sort of players we want to buy .. and to a degree it’s worked ..BUT ..IT AINT WORKING NOW.
How we can even have bought Clarke (For 2 1/2 times the price of Dicko) is mind boggling.
He’s had a good opportunity to shine now .. YET he looks even more laboured and clueless than ever… Exactly not the DNA we need when losing a pocket dynamo.
Then there’s SAGBO .. what’s happening here is comical. If the Due Diligence process was followed the pages must have been upside down … WHAT A WASTE OF RESOURCE.
They have and will not add anything to the TEAM.
It leads to obvious question .. HOW MUCH CONTROL DOES MOXEY AND MORGAN EXERCISE when the Recuitment process is followed ..their stranglehold is throttling the lifeblood out of what Jackett really wants to achieve .
THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE WHILST THEY’RE HERE …..
Well said Twixfix, can’t agree more.
Can I suggest that a like for like replacement for Nouha could possibly be Rajiv Van la Parra. He ain’t getting a look in on the wings at present and has played striker before. He’s certainly got the pace and trickery to put the wind up most central defenders. Gotta be better than our other current options anyway. Dave Edwards injury is just as worrying though, in my opinion. Could be out for quite a while.
Suggest all you like mate – when we have a club that thinks Leon Clarke is a viable replacement for Dicko wim fucked
Just what I was thinking mate.
HEAR ! HEAR ! You managed to sum up my feelings without using the words Scouse, Cunt, Fat and Wanker …
TWO FREE SIGNINGS is all we armed ourselves with for a campaign against sides spending up to 11 million quid on a single player … MILLWALL spent more than use, and that muset seriosuly have Kenny scratching his head as to why he left.
You need a striker, you need to pay for a striker, those are the rules, we didnt make them up, it;s just how it is … Kenny has erformed a minor miracle to have us tie for the top at one stage, but now, the real results are coming to the fore …
Fix it ? I dont see how he does with the Jez’ good bits of business bleeding the club dry and robbing us of any chance of recuititng talent.
Mid table ? Maybe? Losing Sako Ikeme and Dicko? Definitely
As an American supporter of the club, I was curious how those of you across the pond felt about the team not signing Juan Agudelo?
We need experience … we have enough “potential” in our academy … but as you witnessed last night we have no strikers capable of picking up the slack when Dicko is unavailable … Maybe Agudelo will become the player many believe, but he isnt right now, and he also managed to pick up an injury when on trial – not a good sign
US Tom.
Kenny said, “he didn’t have the fitness level required by Wolves” ?????? Sagbo – Leon
Kenny said, “it would take too long to get him ready in the loan window” ???? Sagbo – Leon
Kenny said, “the club Had a good look at him and decided not to take him” ????? Sagbo – Leon
I think he just does not suit the Wolves Centre forward criteria, (which at present is, clueless,
unfit, lazy, no skill,)
“The wheels on the bus are suddenly square, suddenly square, suddenly square”
Just went in the attic last night and checked if my boots still fit.
I bought a pair of those new Epileptic boots last week.
Iv’e had to take them back as they don’t fit,
Boom Boom.
Soz mate.
🙂
You’ve been reading my mail.
Agree 100%
P art of me wants to rage, and part of me wants to try and
U nderstand what is happening. I do realise that I have to be quite
R ealistic when wanting us to win every single game and become the
C hampions of the Division at the end of the season, but because my
H opes and wishes are not truly realistic, I then look deeper into the club.
A lmost everyone on this blog, and fans everywhere, know what we need,
S o does Kenny, and so do Jes and Steve. Our failure to sign quality, or
E ven sign a player that can just take us out of the Division is obvious.
I n Kenny we trust has been a statement that has left my lips and others too.
N obody is asking for us to buy a Messi or a Ronaldo!
J ust trusting Kenny is not enough though, and I feel that we need to be
A sking the question about the support, or lack of support, he is getting.
N o-one outside the club (us) really knows what restrictions have been set, we
U nderstand that he has so far done some good business, but when you look
A t the cost of that businees it makes me believe that there is an element of
R estriction in release of finances. I may be wrong but seeing how we played
Y esterday tells me that Kenny needs to be given some financial support.
I know I am stating the obvious here, but I am becoming quite irate and
S ick to my teeth that we all repeat the obvious but nothing has been done.
K eeping our club financially sound is good business, but we certainly have
E nough money to spend in January. I hope that Kenny is supported and gets a
Y es from Moxey. Whatever happens will show their true commitment to Wolves.
I think a lot of what has been said
Has been true however I would point out had someone offered us 3 points off top sitting in the play offs at this stage of the season we would of all taken it. How tight the league is shows anyone can beat anyone. I don’t think it’s time to panic. We have been found out a bit with regard to McDonald and now we are all looking at our forward line knowing it’s not good enough most of us knew this would be the case once dicko was injured. I have faith we will get a striker and push on I’ve said the play offs from the start and I’m sticking to it.
A big reality check for all us optimistic fans – and hopefully for the powers behind the Molineux throne as well.
Kenny is like a boxer taking on George Foreman with his legs strapped together and one hand tied behind his back, when he should be skipping and dancing round the ring and knocking the big bugger out in the eighth round.
Did that make any sense at all?
The wonder is that, given the nature of the division, we’re still only three points off top spot!
Birmingham put Saturday’s result into perspective last night by beating Watford and the form team Cardiff got a ‘tatering from Bolton. So the division is still wide open and promotion is not lost.
One thing we are all agreed on – we have to spend some decent money on a striker who is PROVEN AT THIS LEVEL.
Potential, we have in spades. What we need is someone who can hit the ground running and score some bloody goals. NOW!
If we don’t show some ambition, I agree with Admant when he says that we will certainly lose Sako, almost certainly Dicko; and Ikeme and a few others will be targeted by clubs who are prepared to invest a bit of dosh to gain success.
If they go, Kenny will be close behind and we’ll be back where we were two seasons ago.
Up shit creek without a paddle or a rudder.
Another really worrying aspect was the knobbling of Edwards last night. I haven’t seen the incident but it smacks of “He’s the danger man, get him off the pitch”.
I might be being fanciful here but Edwards reminds me a lot of Martin Peters.
Underrated and unsung, but an absolutely vital part of the team. And always likely to score an important goal.
If he’s out for a few weeks, which seems likely, we could really struggle.
On a brighter note, it’s mine and the PMDG’er’s 15th wedding anniversary today, and I will be looking to trade her in for a new model if anyone has any suggestions.
I am joking of course. There’s a bottle of champagne on ice and some celebratory puff in the tobacco jar.
Also, I have received my tickets for Robert Plant at the Civic Hall on Friday 21st November and my tickets for the Forest match the day after.
If anyone wishes to join us for a swifty at The Park before the game, they will be very welcome.
Congratulations to you both. I am looking at being there for Forest, but have to deconflict some other social plans first. Have a great day and dont get too dizzy!
Damn. Missed out an apostrophe.
So there’s still a slim chance of me getting a beer from you then.
🙂
Ouch!!!!
Anyway ……………. I DID offer but you said you were driving!!!
(Did I just bite then?)
To be fair, you did, just my way of saying I’ll be there.
🙂
Thanks Steve.
‘Deconflict some other social plans’ eh?
I hope you have a robust plan going forward and are able to find a window, otherwise I shall literally be in a bad place. But it is what it is.
Whatever!
“Deconflict some other social plans””
Strangely enough that’s exactly the same words they used on my charge sheet when Imurdered my Mother-in-Law.
By the way, Iv’e sent you a spare apostrophe, use it wisely.
🙂
I will, but only if you promise to put yours in the right place!
I have toothache, so stop making me laugh!!
Best blogging to date mate,
Even forgot last nights result.
Happy Days
🙂
Congrats on yr Wedding anniversary.
Lovely to read that the Champers and Jamaican Woodbines are at the ready. both of those will give you the giggles mate.
I’ve tried to book into the Park View a few times now but it’s always fully booked.
Hoping to be there (22nd) for pre-match cocktails and banter.
Enjoy yr day !!
Cheers matey. Look forward to seeing you and Mrs Twixfix.
Happy Anniversary Mrs Doogooder and yer man.
As they say in Scotland “Lang Mae yer Lum Reek” (long and happy life)
Cheers StuWolf.
According to the PMDG’er, my Lums have reeked for years!
Excellent, that’s a positive from a woman, not to be sniffed at either.
🙂
Agree about Edwards – he will be a BIG miss while he is out.
I will try to be at the Park too. Congratulations to you and Mrs DGR. It doesn’t seem right that she is known as “Present”, that’ far too transient. We should have a “pick a soubriquet” competition. Mrs DGR could judge and thereby pick her favourite. I’ll start the ball rolling with 2 suggestions F for Forever, or E for Enduring.
Cheers Jerryd! Look forward to seeing you mate.
I like your suggestions but you’ve got to keep these women on their toes, haven’t you.
The truth is, I call her ‘The present’ because I think she’s a gift from some higher being.
I know she’s much too good for me but, whatever you do, don’t tell her!
Thanks for clearing that up, I should have thought of that. I am sure tha she knows the real meaning already.
At this point not being able to find a (suitable) striker really is coming back to haunt us and by all intents and purposes this game was the worst Wolves had played all season! Ipswich just seemed to want it more than we did and the midfield pairing did not seem up to scratch either!
We are still in a great position when we look at the table but the question is whether we can keep that position. We might do but we need to be playing much better than we did yesterday.
Oh, and a decent striker. That too.
Two things I remember in this match, the disbelief by the travelling fans by our first half performance, and the worst one, Sako s face when we gave the ball away to gift them the 2nd goal..
There are certain players Sako being one who can make a difference and beside not being fully fit he smelled the 2nd goal from US and was tactically waiting to either assist the goal or put it in himself.
His face was a picture after all that effort when Evens passed it to them and they scored.. even Mr Positive Stu Wolves across from me shook his head..
But the two individuals aside (DB aswell) hid the overall problem.Ipswich were not good.. we were just so bad with the worst first half performances I’ve seen.
This was because we live in cookoo land to think that we can sustain our league position with the likes of the Clarkes Sagbos McAlindens EBL (can’t distribute) Rowe …
We have an injury crisis,a confidence crisis from Ikeme to KMac which all could of been sorted by spending on players when we could..We need 3 players..
I’m starting to believe that if we don’t go up then it’s acceptable because of injuries..
Dicko I’ve heard Prob won’t play against Derby so we are back to the same comments and problems..
I feel sorry for brilliant Sacko he’s a true Wolves player who if we keep him it will be a miricle.
As for McCarthys face when the whisle blew, what could of been worse
that, or the way we played..
COYW
Ipswich fan here !
Always liked this blog and a soft spot for Wolves. However reading the comments above I am amused by the sense of entitlement. Not yet as bad as Forest fans but you should keep an eye on it ! You have just come up from Div 1 for God’s sake. You are still in the play-off positions and it is early doors.
McCarthy is doing a good job for us and we will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. He has now managed to build a good squad as evidenced by the fact that we were without 5 normal starters last night.
Oh…thanks for beating our six fingered friends at the start of the season.
Welcome John,
McArthy is either liked or hated. I personally believed he was good for us, taking us up and keeping us there. However, the keeping us there bit was more luck than ability. He is a very good Manager at this level, but he is not PL. I wish you all the good fortune this season, but feel you will need to get yourselves a better manager for the PL if/should you get there.
I think that most Town fans are aware of his limitations…..but after you have had a lunatic like Roy Keane let loose on your club the stability that he represents is much appreciated. As many of your posters have observed his teams are organised and work hard and you need that in this division. Fulham came to PR and played all sorts of pretty football but never looked like scoring and we beat them fairly comfortably.
The Championship is a very tough league. I have not seen any really bad sides at PR this season. Rotherham had the better of us for 80 minutes,Millwall outplayed us for 30 mins and Huddersfield should have beaten us.
I predict that come the end of the season at least 10 clubs will be in the hunt for the play-offs and at in a tight situation like that I suspect that McCarthy will do well.
Might be an odd comment but I don’t want to go up. I hate the PL and the fact that we will get called “plucky” by Sky Sports and City/Chelsea would spank us live on TV. Also paying £50 for a ticket and never kicking off at 3pm on a Sat. No thank you.
Not an odd comment about not wanting to go up mate. Whilst I want to go up – to say we could and did – I would rather stay where we are. I enjoy the atmosphere better, and my 3 hour journey back home to North Yorkshire after a home win is more likely than if we played Chelsea et al.
Thanks for posting on here, it is nice to discuss real stuff with real people. That is why I rate our blog as the best I have seen.
As I said previously good luck for the rest of the season, other than us playing you at our place. If you come up for the game, post on here – would be good to meet you.
Might just take you up on that ! and yes this is one of the best blogs/sites about and is a credit to those that run it. Our main site (TWTD) is very busy but the content is variable with a fair few blinkered idiots .
Good luck for the rest of the season .
John Bond’s Ghost eh,
I bet he is loving last nights performance from your guys, they outplayed, out thought and outright whalloped us last night, your boys wanted it more than us that’s for sure. I would also like to welcome your comments here, a fair and gracious account from an opposing fan, so thank you for that.
In reply to your comments, as Wolves fans over the last 18 Months we have witnessed a lot better than last night, so this blog is simply reflecting the massive disappointment at seeing our team play so poorly in the last couple of games. Big Mick has had an equal share of praise and venom, but one thing is certain he got it right last night and made us look ordinary.
We shall prevail, regroup and resume normal service I’m sure, but us fans are a tad disappointed with the results of late.
Once again nice to hear from you good luck for the rest of the season.
🙁
I would tend to agree with the comments on here about your strikers (or lack thereof). We have Murphy and McGoldrick who have scored something like 17 goals between them. If we can keep them fit we have a chance.
Looking at all teams that do well in this league they have a common feature in that they are full of goals. At this level you have to accept that your defence is unlikely to keep that many clean sheets so you have to make up for it at the other end .
You looked ok(ish) elsewhere but your destiny will be decided by the choices that you make in terms of signing new strikers.
All the best
You mention Ebanks-Landell’s poor distribution. When they didn’t have the ball Ipswich closed down McDonald and Evans to negate Wanderers prime source of supply going forward. They also closed down Doherty and Rowe cutting off the secondary route of supply. That left Baath and Ebanks-Landell with acres of time on the ball. Baath is reasonably competent but the longer the game went on the worse Ebanks-Landell became. He reminded me of George Elokobi at his worst – terrific in the challenge but when the ball came to feet looking to move forward to another man in Old Gold he looked like a man about to have a nervous breakdown. The abiding image of Ebanks-Landell was Ikeme sending the ball out to him with nobody within 10 yards – he managed to tie up the ball between his feet, panicked, pirouetted 360 degrees and returned the ball to Ikeme.
I like Ebanks-Landell , he has good potential and a positive attitude. Somebody needs to pay attention to his passing ability – or perhaps select Stearman.
Midfield Wanderer…EWB is playing because Rickets is injured and Stears was being bundled off the ball …this division gets physical but it’s all very well having a good header of the ball or a strong stopper but if you keep giving it back to the other side it just comes back yet again for the same thing to happen…I’ve advocated buying another defender ( as well as another striker.). EWB gets desperate and doesn’t play out of defence but boots it…..a far cry from KJs philosophy of passing out from the back… Stears prob better…
Midfield,
You were watching the same game as me and the wife. He was a very poor distributor of the ball and as you say, panicked like hell for no known reason.
Theyv’e opened the new Academy today so we should see an improvement on Saturday, ( Stearman for me, any day of the week)
🙂
I’d like to echo the DOOGooder’s (Happy Anniversary!) point, any team can beat any other in the championship
And we can still beat most, but what about the element of surprise? Why can’t Rowe start in central midfield to give Mcdonald a rest? It’s the position he was bought to play!
And a couple of points about last nights opposition.
Van la Parra’s pace would have given Berra a nightmare, why leave him out till the last 10
minutes, also you don’t beat a Mick team on work rate.
Having watched so many Mick games we know this !
Greasel and bob the demolisher have their fans, somewhere, and as you all know I am not their biggest, but I have a question to ask them in all seriousness, regarding Sako and Dicko.
Were they unaware, before the season kicked off, that the African Cup of Nations rears its ugly head soon?
They are our first choice strikers, upon whom a lot of our scoring hopes are pinned.
Why, then, were extra strikers not recruited, as an upmost priority, for cover in case of injury, but most certainly when they went overseas for some time?
With all their talk of planning for the future, long term strategies, etc. etc. would it not be reasonable to assume that they knew about this?
How long does poor old KJ have to keep making excuses and bite his tongue in defense of those two tossers?
If no info or explanations are forthcoming, it is obvious us fans are going to assume the worst, which is that KJ has been told that he has to make do with what he had in the third division, unless he can get some freebies.
That, for me, is 100% fuckin’ unacceptable.
If you read this, fat man, how about a response?
Even if it is only fuck off?
And I guarantee Ipswich were told to knobble Edwards last night, as he is the only player McDickwadhead had any prior knowledge of, and you can bet Brompton’s boots the thick twat did no research on us.
On other topics, congratulations and a big medal to Mrs. Doog, for putting up with whatshisname for an eternity.
I hope your seeds flourish, and your garden turns Texas Blue!!
Oh, and congrats to Doog as well, I suppose!!
FO w b
Thanks Mr Houston.
Your good wishes have brought tears to my eyes.
The present Mrs DG’er tells me that 15th Anniversary is Crystal.
I offered to buy her a crystal ball, so she could look into the future, but she said I should have bought one as an engagement present.
…It would have saved her wasting 15 years of her life.
That’s because Crystal is for CRYSTAL MAZE .. you haven’t got a clue where the f+#king Crystal is yet you’re expected to win it by grabbing a handful of gold tokens and earn points so you can win a trip on a hot air balloon ….
Enjoy yr night mate. Xx
We are being exposed….
KJ is ‘head coach’ and the implication of this, is that he does not have the final say in ‘transfers.’
There is something not right at Molineux at the moment.
For me Bob the Builder and Moxey are holding back the club with their penny pinching.
Can see Sako going in January….
Sad indeed….
We missed a trick with Agard from Rotherham, now at Bristol City, virtually a like for like replacement for Dicko and useful out wide too.
Would be interesting to see what the budget for January is. Everyone at the club knows we are light up front and every team want a goalscorer so money needs to be exchanged. We’ll end up with a loan signing to paper over the cracks. Still a long way to go but if you had offered me the playoffs at the start of the season id have snapped your hands off. Nothing has changed here in November. Daaaaave being out is the worst news of the last 24 hours. He scores goals and is key to the way we play even if he does run around like a headless chicken most of the time
I’m not looking forward to January. Assuming Sako and Dicko will be going off to the ACN and Edwards will be recovering from last nights injury or, (if recovered), not fully match fit where will the goals come from ? ‘Cos they certainly won’t come from Clarke or MacAlinden. Dunno what to make of the Sagbo saga. But for a lack of cover MacAlinden should be sent out on loan for more experience. Clarke cannot duplicate Dicko’s role, so we end up tinkering with the formation to try and use the strengths of the replacements. And tinkering with your chosen playing-style is asking for trouble, as we have seen in the last 2 matches.
I agree Jackett has been tinkering unnecessarily sometimes.
Anyone care to suggest what Clarke’s strengths are ?
That tap in was supposed to have restored faith, but he’s had two chances since and only confirmed what we knew from his performances last season.
It’s potentially quite simple..if we buy right we go up ..if we do nothing or cock it up we stay in the championship..
If we scraped it through then we could go down again..
£12M………
Dear Mr Houston.
After years of moving WWFC forwards in a positive, financially sound and God like fashion albeit single handedly, whilst standing proudly and undeterred by the negative remarks of my adoring fans, I have received your latest e-mail via KJ’s office and further to your request I shall endeavour to reply in a positive manner.
Myself and others at the cllub in consultation with the Owner Mr Morgan were well aware of the ACON tournament in January, as such we have put in place a firm but prudent strategy to manage the situation as it arises. We have scoured the length and breadth of the World to supplement the missing skills of our Malian players with similar stars who should be abundant with skill, determination, high fitness levels and willing and proud to wear the shirt. I am sure you have to agree with our masterclass decision to take on board Leon, Sagbo, McAllinden and Agudelo, names which will soon be associated with the all time greats such as Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney to name but a few.
As a long serving Wolves fan you can see how important having a financial package in place that will carry us through to the next Millennium, we can then expect to compete at all levels at home and in Europe on a level playing field to bring home trophies with the help of these superstars. it would be easy to spend millions and bring in players of a high calibre with a proven track record, but,we do uphold the belief that home grown is best. For example we have invested heavily in Bancassi, Kortney house, Zeli Ishmal and have sent them off to other clubs where they are developing and scoring goals for those clubs that can take advantage of our generosity.
On a more personal level, I must take this opportunity to defend myself on points that you have alluded to in some of your previous posts, with reference to my ever increasing waist band I have to state for the record that it is a glandular problem Iv’e had since puberty. To correct another comment, I do actually know who my father is, we’re not sure who my Mother was but I do have parents out there somewhere. Finally, we have tried everything known to man, all commercial standard chemicals included, but try as we may I cannot get my Sebaceous glands to stop secreting their waxy greasy substance, and we are actually taking part in Embarrassing bodies next Month in hope of seeing a specialist on the free.
I do hope this has gone a long way to building bridges between ourselves and rest assured the hand of friendship is extended to you should you come to see us in the 53rd State in the future. As a gesture of good intentions I would personally seek to offer you a 3% discount of a visit to our wonderful museum and admission to a match of your choice in the 2013/14 season. Our chief scout would also be delighted for you to pay for him and his wife to come to Houston to take a look at your Grandson who you describe as pretty nifty, just the attributes we look for in players.
Kindest regards,
JM
Dear Mr. greasel.
I believe you have visited Texas in the past, since the above is the biggest and best load of bullshit I have seen in a while!
If your strategy is for the next millennium, then I feel that is too soon.
Clarke, McAlinden etc have no hope of improving in the next 1000 years.
You may send your boy scouts over whenever you see fit, together with their expense sheets, and the check will be in the mail!!
And, I am not fooled, I know this was not written by greasel, some of the words have more than one syllable!
Very good, have a gold star and go and sit on the radiator.
I have never laughed so much at this retort C.f.H. I think a fireworks gone off in my trousers.. just an age thing mate .. cu soon ..
Me too. Awesome. Shall we have a guess who wrote it?
Quality absolute quality!
I think we ve got as far as we can without spending .. I watched that max clayton the other day and he looked a good player !
So it seems that the Wolves players were feeling a little sorry for Ipswich, so much so they decided to help them out by –
1. Losing the ball in our penalty area.
2. Passing it to the Ipswich forward line.
I am only glad that WiziWig had a no-show on this and all the other Championship games Tuesday night.
….all that aside we have only managed 2 away wins this season so the outcome was not that much of a surprise.
The form of MacDonald is worrying, Dave Edwards injury is a massive blow and with Dicko nursing his hamstring it seems we are going through a ‘difficult’ period.
Over to KJ to work more magic and get the Wolves back on track, staring away to Derby on Saturday.
Just a thought, Roger Johnson is…………..
Nawwww sod that for a game of Soldiers.
🙂
There is an old adage that says that “Nothing changes unless it has to”.
Wolves’ Management’s goals for the past number of years, at least since Jez Moxey has been in charge, has simply been to sell as many season tickets as possible, and to fill the ground as much as possible, at the lowest possible investment. Period. NONE of this will change, unless it has to. Unless there is a change in management or fans stop buying season tickets.
Every season, just before early bird opens, all the false marketing begins, and cliches like “being another Everton”, “playing in Europe”, “aiming to be a top 10 EPL team”, or “sleeping giant awakening”, etc., start getting brandished, but none of it is real. It’s all BS. It’s all for the fans to suck up (and boy, how we do!) and buy season tickets. After that, it’s business as usual. Summers come and go with no substantial player investment, January txfr window comes and goes with no change either, we flatter to deceive and land a play-off spot or close (maybe even the odd promotion here and there too to bring in PL cash for the club before relegation again), …, rinse, lather and repeat.
The sad reality is that the sleeping giant that we allegedly are has as much chance of awakening as a Dodo! The club has no plan, will, or ambition, to invest the multiple millions required to mount a serious challenge to become a quality Premier League team again. As many of you pointed out, several players were available to us over the summer who would have strengthened our team; but they cost money (not a lot btw!). Wolves CHOSE to pass on these players, and bring in free or cheaper ones. The result now is that they are useless bench warmers, or unable to secure a regular spot.
We ARE a Championship team. That is all. We are a decent Championship team because we have a good academy and good facilities. But we are no EPL quality team. Not even close, never mind Everton. We will beat teams in the Championship when they are off form, and we will lose to others when they are on form, regardless of their position in the league. Nothing to do with luck. We may make the play-offs or perhaps get promoted, but whether we do or not won’t matter because we will not invest in serious team improvement, and that will NOT change.
Not until there is a change at the top.
Loyal fans we remain, and hope we always maintain, that maybe one day, that change happens and we can be proud again. Until then we will talk about how the mighty Bournemouth heads the division instead of us.
Go Wolves!!!
When I were a lad it used to be,
Dover for the Continent
Bournemouth for the Incontinent.
Oh how the tide has turned, no pun intended.
🙂
Wow after a shitty day at work reading this makes me wanna slit my wrists. Talk about doom and gloom. Every single game the opinion on here changes. Had we nicked a late equaliser last night we would be all positive and happy. We have all got so used to winning that when we have a bad result or performance we really pile on the negativity!! Let’s just put things in perspective shall we.
Our best business in the summer was keeping Sako at the club. In him we have a player who will score 15-20 goals making our need for a prolific striker a little less. Yes I agree we do need more strength in depth in that position but if we couldn’t land the right man then that’s football. Wilson signed for Bournemouth. It’s a little arrogant for us to suggest that we would have got Wilson if we had offered the same or offered the same wages. Bournemouth were in the championship last season and are a club on the up. Lots of clubs failed to land the targets they wanted In the window.
Anyone who expected a comfortable win against blues is deluded. You all know football and the worst result possible for wolves was blues to have their worst ever defeat before we played them. New manager, new belief that game had draw written all over it its a local derby!!! We should have won but failed to and if I remember correctly it was Sako who was guilty of missing our best chances. Blues backed it up last night by beating Watford so it wasn’t just us.
We have lost 3 games all season and currently sit in the top 6 only 3 points off top. I mean seriously is this a time to start moaning about the board and the finances? We have finally got a team of honest lads who will give their all for wolves. They won’t always play well and will go through bad patches of form but that is normal. Are we good enough? Well considering everyone here is feeling down in the dumps because of recent performances and results and yet we sit within a win of the summit tells me that we must be the best team in this division. I wonder if Watford fans are depressing their blogs today. What’s the point in moaning about is not having another striker? The transfer window is closed so there is fuck all can be done about it till January.
What were the expectations to begin with? We have a chairman who wishes to invest money into our academy and we are already seeing the benefits. Ebanks Lendell is the first of many with the potential to break into this first team. Patience is key. We have started really well and I for one never expected to be challenging the top 2 a third of the way into the season. Like any other team when we lose our best players we are not as good.
Let’s just get behind them every game and enjoy the ride.
Good to read a response that puts things in perspective. Life is full of ups and downs and if we always got what we wanted it would be rather dull. Maybe it’s because of my age but I have learnt to be a little more patient. Not many more years to go but I still remain positive regarding The Wolves.
I got lottsa pine trees on my estate, what size coffin can I make you??!!
Small !!
We only have a limited time on this Planet and I’m not spending my time with a long face.
I’d rather look for the good and enjoy those things that come my way.
I’m sorry, but I beg to differ.
My patience has long gone away.
I was patient for 20 odd years in the second division, patient while Mad Mick fannied about for 3 lost years in the Prem, and have been patient for the last two years, waiting to get back into the Prem.
I remember us playing and beating some of the best teams in Europe, I remember being pissed off when Utd fans sang “Champions of Europe”, in our faces back in ’69.
I remember us being proud members of the First Division, ……………
and I want to see us there again.
If Morgan and his lap dog have not got that ambition for our club, then he has no business owning it and should fuck off immediately.
If he has, then he should put out some decent money, buy some prolific strikers, and get us up and keep us up.
And, he should have done it several months ago.
If he had, then perhaps we would have beaten Millwall, Wigan, Birmingham, Charlton and Reading and be sitting 7 points clear at the top, an attractive draw for more potential good strikers, instead of being happy with a top six position.
If we don’t expect to win every match, what is the point of playing?
And, it really sticks in my craw that sandwell town are in the Prem and we aint!!
I totally agree. Morgan and Moxey should stop setting false expectations if they don’t plan on meeting them.
So we got bullied last night, and we got bullied by Huddersfield recently, I mean f____ing Huddersfield for goodness sake. Everyone knows this is a physical league, and the punishment of mistakes by Evans and big Mac were accidents waiting to happen, nearly happened at home last Saturday. We need physical presence and we need some pace in the side, particularly in midfield, and to help our central midfielders we need our front players to be more active in finding space.
KJ says the owner thinks there is an opportunity this season – well Morgan is right, everybody is beating everybody, there is no Leicester romping away with it. I agree with Ben that consolidation would have done this season, we have limited playing resources in numbers and quality, and heaven help us if we are in the playoffs at the end of the season as we may well be. If Morgan really wants it and thinks its attainable then he should back KJ with at least 4 new players on loan or buy them. I mean two free transfers in the close season and a £1m (su pposedly) midfielder with pedigree who sits on the bench. Get some players in to play please Morgan. Not for the first time I agree with my mate Clive from Houston. If mad Mick can build a side for so little why can`t we? Frustrated but not disheartened.
Clive I can feel the frustration in you from over the Atlantic. We missed out on targets, we saw them all in the press and we all got excited and then we never managed to land them. Maybe this was because they preferred to go elsewhere!! I remember everyone going mental on deadline day because we missed on delort who went Wigan for £3m. What a waste of money he turned out to be. But buying him would have shown our AMBITION this forum would have been delighted. Spending money for the sake of it to please fans is a practice that I am pleased my club don’t engage in. Rumour has it that delort preferred wolves but Wigan offered more money. Again I am proud of a club that sticks to its principles with what they feel a player is worth. Created a harmonised dressing room without big egos. When our chairman is investing so much money in the academy it means that we need to get our transfers right. We can’t afford expensive mistakes!! As a result of our summer business we find ourselves above most of the big spenders in the league and 3 points away from being above the lot. With money that we haven’t wasted available in January for the push. A lot of clubs have played their hand already. As a wolves fan for all those years you will have seen some highs and some lows and are you seriously trying to say that right now we are at a low? Cause if so then our views are poles apart
And isn’t that the fun, and frustration, of being Wolves fans?
Poles apart, but united in our love of all things old gold and black…………………….except greasel’s tie, which methinks is not tight enough.
Its easy to sit here after 15 games and say we should have signed Wilson or asombalonga etc but that’s because they have started well at their new clubs. It’s about valuing a player without the benefit of 3 months hindsight. If bournemouth value a player higher than we do then that’s it. Sometimes they turn out, sometimes they don’t. (Freddy Eastwood!!!) had we spent money on a striker who hasn’t done the business then you would be moaning just as much that we should buy a different one. Just relax and let the good coaching team we have get the best out of what we have available and then see where we are when we can actually do something about the problem.
So what did we learn from a cold winter’s night in Ipswich? It’s dog eats dog in the Championship and with 1/3 of the season gone 14 sides are within ten points of the leader – nothing new here then. To get out of this league on cold winter’s nights away from home we need to either scramble a draw or win ugly.
We won’t do either whilst our star midfield duo are auditioning for the role of Santa Claus in the club’s Xmas party. Quite what McDonald was doing giving his impersonation of Beckenbauer in his own penalty area, heaven only knows. What moment of pure lunacy came across Lee Evans is also anyone’s guess. His only excuse might be that he had a temporary fit of colourblindness, so accurate was his pass to the unmarked McGoldrick.
Many others have commented on Leon Clarke. The one image that remains from last night was when Sako, attempting to save the game, drifted in from the wing and ran across the front of the Ipswich area, ball at his feet. He spotted Clarke, fed a short ball for Clarke to turn onto in the box. Trouble was Clarke had his weight on the other foot and was moving back towards Sako rather than ready to make a turn into the box like most strikers would. I don’t think he’s not just on the same page as the rest of them, he’s reading a different book.
What was depressing about last night’s performance was that after Ipswich’s second goal heads went down. There was a complete loss of confidence and just when it was needed most, a lack of leadership on the pitch.
Still, we’re only 3 points behind the leaders. For me a few 0-0’s on cold winter’s nights away from home wouldn’t go amiss if it started to point us in the right direction.
Amazing blog this..when the going gets tough the bloggers get going…
Spectacular truth Go Wolves..
And when the bloggers get going, the going gets tougher!!
It will on Saturday Clive ..particularly if Clarke plays…
But we are a PL team it’s our destiny
perhaps it’s down to us to make it happen…..
I think Ben has a point – maybe we did get a bit too used to winning & the Championship is a much tougher league than the Prem as more “proper” football is played. Plus let’s face it no team will survive for long there without £50 million or so to invest & try to compete with the likes of Chelsea etc. I can’t really see M & M freeing up that kind of cash.
However I think a proven striker by whatever means is now a must otherwise we could well be screwed! Lack of bite is also a concern right now, although a couple of wins/clean sheets would up the confidence level. Not convinced by old Leon he plods too much for my liking.
Being married to an Ipswich supporter I would really have liked a win last night but amazingly my other half is being surprisingly good – no smug remarks at all or rubbing it in. Mind you he knows what he would get if he did!!
Let’s gear up for Derby & out in a better performance.
Come on Wanderers!!
We aren’t going to win every game; yes the lack of pace in the side w/o Dicko and Edwards is a concern, but as badly as we played we lost by one goal. How did Derby fans feel when they lost at Brentford the other week? I doubt they wrote the season off and neither should we. Kenny’s not daft, he’ll do his best but yes I do agree the money is tighter than it should be and that explains why we haven’t got our main targets over summer.
Reality check – as I’ve said many times before, anything above mid table is an over achievement for this squad. Yes, of course we need a new striker for a number of reasons but if any think that is the silver bullet that will assure us promotion, please go and lie in a dark room and stop torturing yourself! Tell me how many of kj’s best eleven would right now seriously be backed to make any sort of impact in the pl? It took McCarthy 3 years to get us up and I’d be very surprised if KJ does it any quicker. Unfortunately, Morgan has no intention to bank roll promotion. He has consistently talked of wwfc needing to be self sustainable and I would be gobsmacked if he ever spends the sort of 2-3m on a player in the championship as per Bournemouth, notts forest, Cardiff etc. have done. This will be a long road back – no one should ever be so gullible to listen to Morgan or moxey’s warm words about ambition etc- judge them purely by their actions. If they wanted to invest heavily in the first team squad they could but they don’t simply because they don’t want to. 🙂
I knew McCarthy and his Wolves rejects would piss on our chips I’d have bet my right nut on it.
That McCarthy and his shift workers have shattered my ellutions is doublally gualling.
We have know a decent back up, not even back up a partner for Dicko was essential, the fact we are still in touch with the leaders is a bonus and a testament to the players and Jackett but we are third of the way through the season and a fair few of the players are starting to look tired and jaded And one or two not up to the task by that I mean most if not all of Jacketts summer buys ( from the Pound Shop)
Kenny is a victim of his own success in that he done well with players that have been brought for next to nothing what’s happened and is what I predicted would happen and blogged these comments, in the summer is that M and M expect Jackett to carry on finding these gems in the bargin basket and will not give any real money to sign a decent striker.
Love that expression….piss on your chips!!
This lot over here wouldn’t have a clue what it means.
Reminds me of when I first came over here, back when I still smoked.
The looks I got when I said I had a fag in my mouth!!
I’m old and stupid.
Supported Wolves for 56 years.
Been there and seen it all.
Loved last season and we’re in the play-off positions now.A few disappointing results and we are throwing in the towel?
Come on boys it could worse we could be owned by the Bhattis and have Glenn Hoddle as a manager…….now those people were crap!
Hi wolftone -Ilike you have been supporting the wolves over fifty years.
But we have a good nucleus of young players but with a few additions
we have a good chance of making at least the playoffs, but investments
are needed to sustain our march out of this division and back to where
we belong… and don’t forget Moxey said we can be like Everton.UTW.
Like you I am old and stupid, been going since 1953.
Why are we moaning ( I can understand but not join in yet) we are in a playoff postion with most of the season to go. I know the wheels could come off but have faith in KJ that they won’t.
Please don’t mention the Bhatti’s again I still have nightmares about them, and as for Hoddle least said the better, remember FRankowski was the last piece in the jigsaw. Problem was the other pieces didn’t fit in any case.
Keep the faith we will be in the mix in May.
I do think that we have a great blog here with our mentors Ben and Thomas, the contributors to this site say it as it is, how they feel is expressed in how they write, opinions change week in week out according to what scratchy bit they see on WiziWig, Sky or hear on the radio, CB, jungle telegraph or however they gleen their report on our beloved Wolves.
We are not blowing smoke up anyone’s botticello, or pulling folk to pieces just venting a build up of frustration through a medium that allows us to do so in a friendly manner.
On the subject of let’s get behind the team, well me, Steve Showcase and another 946 fans made the 360 mile round trip to Ipswich last night and froze our Crystals off screening support from the rafters,it is the same every week away from home, we burst lungs cheering them on. But it does knock the wind out of our sails when we see the team that is normally rock steady in defending and getting results start to waiver.
My view is we are still 1striker off being a PL team, yes I wholeheartedly agree half these guys probably three quarters of the team will never get the chance, but with Dicko and a real striker to aim at, the problems in the team will subside like a spent pen1s and this current lot will get us there. The reason we are fairing badly is when McDonald, Doherty, Evans, Rowe all look up, what they see is an idiot running out of viable spaces, walking around like they have all day and who shows no interest in winning the ball let alone go for goal. So I put this to you, would you pass the ball to them? So it goes round and round in ever decreasing circles until it ends up at Sako’s feet or up an A Hole.
Sako is worth 15 – 20 goals a season, but that comes at a price if your the lone man, look at Bully and what’s happening to Dicko at the moment, how many times has he been injured this season because he’s having to run around like a blue bottomed fly taking half a defence on himself.
We are behind the team, we are patient and we are loyal to our players. But there comes a time when Leon’s chances run out, if we had “that other striker,” I’d be watching Leon at Telford in the U21s.
Great contributions from everyone, all makes for a great read.
Onwards & Upwards, spare a thought for me at Derby with Dangerous out, I’m worried Kenny is going to offer me a game.
🙂
If you are offered a game, my boots don’t fit anymore – what size are you?
A meagre 6, can you check see if the “Dubbin” is cracked, the leather don’t favour dry cracked Dubbin.
How’s the tooth.
Was it something you ate
🙂
Abscess. But it’s not too bad – will get it sorted. Have now “de-conflicted” social calendar. John Bishop at Newcastle on Sun 23rd not Sat 22nd as I thought – yahoo.
Smart card now been uploaded so ……….. see you on the 22nd at the watering hole. I hope to be there around 1230
UTW/FOWB
John Bishop, thank Christ I thought it was a Divorce.
🙂
Divorce? I should be so lucky.
No, seriously I am very lucky. She is a gem. A rare breed that becomes embarrassed when she spends money – yeah really, and never ever questions where I am going, be it an Army Reunion or a football match. I don’t take the piss though. We have been married over 31 years now so it can’t be bad.
You flaming we’ll hang on other, she sounds flipping fantastic, Iv’e been married 44 years now and we spend 24 hours together with no problems at all, she likes Wolves supports every madcap venture soI can relate. Behind every great man moving forward is a woman with a knife.
You must bring her sometime, if she don’t like footy, Wolverhampton is great for window shopping.
🙂
Just when we thought we had heard everything on this blog…..
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.
Oh I do like to be beside the sea.

I heard that Blackpool FC have found a prime spot on the beach for O’Hara’s Ego.
Brilliant mate, how feckin true.

It will be interesting to hear the response from the fans at Molineux on the 17th Jan!
I don’t think his loan runs that long .. besides he’ll be knackered from romping with all the Lancashire lasses…
Just picked up my Brentford tickets, there are only 150 tickets left for the Derby game on Saturday so get yer Arses along there and snap em up. Could be our first sell out this season……….
Must have been reading this Blog
🙂
and I predicted a 4-1 win.
What a twat I am.
A bit worried now. Everything is going horribly wrong. And it all started after the first international break.
Next international break coming up. What should we expect after this?
