As positive as these early matches have been, we’re yet to face a decent side.
Blues and Ipswich are average by Championship standards and I’d say Reading and Rotherham are a few notches lower. The League Cup draws have also been kind.
That’s not to put a dampener on progress under Walter Zenga – we may not have got the results last season – but I’m looking forward to seeing how we get on against the heavyweights.
Huddersfield may fall into that category, but like us it’s too early to know whether they have the staying power and quality to keep it going.
This is a lovely little test for both sides though ahead of the international break.
Huddersfield
David Wagner was an inspired choice for Huddersfield after they sacked Chris Powell. An energetic and inventive coach, anything now seems possible for the Terriers, where as before you felt they’d hit a ceiling.
Some promising results towards the back end of last season and a busy summer of recruitment have raised expectations and results haven’t disappointed.
They’re top of the league having already seen off Brentford, Newcastle and Barnsley. A useful point at Villa Park means they’re unbeaten coming into this one.
We know Rajiv van La Parra well of course, but considerably less about the likes of Christopher Schindler, Jon Gorenc-Stankovic or Elias Kachunga.
With our own merry band of exotic new recruits, this game has a continental, anything could happen element of mystique.
Wolves
This section is not about a predicted lineup, as I’m no longer prepared to try and second guess a manager who picks eight midfielders. Instead, this is the team I would field.

That’s the form players from the last few games filling the midfield sandwiched by a well established back four and two strikers bang in form.
But there are more viable options on the bench for Walter Zenga than we’ve had for a long time and who knows how he’ll choose to use all these players?
Rotation has thus far been viewed as a favourable thing, but if results take a turn for the worse the pressure to define a strongest eleven will quickly intensify.
Walter Zenga
Predictions
Nothing exciting to read here I’m afraid – 1-1.
I can’t quite summon the confidence to go all out for the win, but based on everything I’ve seen so far, won’t back us to lose either, even against a good Huddersfield side.
Anything other than defeat would represent a very solid start and leave us ideally placed going into international fortnight and of course, the final days of the transfer window.
Up The Wolves!

1-0 win for Wolves
Well I’ve backed us for a win at 13/5 with Sky bet so I won’t go against that here. Confidence will be high and I think it unlikely that Huddersfield will last the pace. Fingers crossed we’ll go into the break top of the pile.
Sorry Wolves Blog, Huddersfield like Fulham have had a decent start but this week-end we will see first hand if they can be classed as heavy weights.
VLP will be on the warpath and if selected will most likely score.
While Wolves have signed 9 players now with Saissa passing his medical included but still not official, there are still 5 clubs who have signed more than us.
Huddersfield are one of them signing an incredible 13 players and while liking my palm read and fortune told,13 is an unlucky number.
Wolves to prove that.
Don’t apologise for predicting a win Amanda.
Positivity is always welcome on the blog.
A five goal thriller to send us top of the league.
All good things come to an end but I am keeping faith for this one.
I don’t think Huddersfield are as good as their early form/position suggests. On the other hand, I think we are still moving up through the gears and improving each game.
So, I’m very optimistic that we will power through after the usual shaky start.
3-1 to the Zenga Boys to go Top of the Pops!
Wolves v Huddersfield

Some incredible stats to help you get the right prediction !!!
Thanks Thomas
I finally caught up with recording of Blues game and was impressed by the pace of our ball movement, albeit the play became a bit frenetic at times and we’re still a long way from the style needed to sustain a PL position.
I’m still wary of getting too carried away by the results to date…we’ll see where we stand once we get to the Newcastle/Villa fixtures. However no reason not to get a point here and a nice unbeaten start to a long long season. Then Burton and Barnsley look good for 6 more points.
Think this is the first negative of the campaign.. let’s see how they respond
Comfortable………. All out before the break.
It’s going to be tough, but that’s the nature of the division.
Huddersfield is one of the sides that we should be putting away if we’re going to succeed in our ultimate aim.
A draw would be a decent result but a win would really send a message to the rest of the hopefuls in this division.
Wolves are back!
Be afraid, be very afraid!
Don’t let us down boys. You’ve shown us that you can do it when you want to.
Let’s do it!
The first time I went to Huddersfield was to see us play Leeds!
Work that one out! First correct answer will win absolutely nothing just like us & Huddersfield on Saturday.
A score draw to keep us unbeaten & me back into mid table Prediction League respectability:)
I was at the same game. Leeds were banned from Elland Road for a few games because of crowd trouble ( I think) and had to play home games at Huddersfield.
If I remember correctly it was 1971 and we drew 0-0 but I could have that wrong as well – seem to have had several ‘senior moments’ just lately!!!
Spot on mate. 1971 it was! Can’t claim a crystal clear memory for dates – I Google it:)
Easily our toughest game so far. Would be very happy with a draw. UTW
A freak goal against Villa and a last minute goal last time out against barnsley maybe flatters H’field a little…..Maybe!
On that I’m going for a Wolves win!
Scoopedo!!
Leeds 0 Wolves 0
Leeds supporters, 10,000
Wolves supporters in Leeds end, 2 Me and you!!
Wolves supporters who stuck two fingers in air and screamed “Fuck Off Leeds” 1, you.
Wolves supporters who ran like hell and hid behind a copper, 1….. Me!!
I remember it well, all due to Astle scoring the most offside goal in history at Elland Road, to deny them title the previous season!
Oh happy days!!
As to Saturday, Hudderswho?
They may have a lot of new faces, but they were all moxeytype” bargains”
We have got quality and style.
They are in a false position, and so are we.
After we thrash them 5-1 our positions will be reversed, and top we shall stay.
This is OUR time, the crowds will again fill to The Molineux rafters, and all will be swept aside.
No more of this ” wait until we play the big clubs” bollocks, WE are the big club in this division, and all shall quake when we come calling.
The shit have only won one in twelve, hows that for west midlands dominance!
Pulis looking for a job soon
Go to Norwich, prickface, I’m sure greasel will have some scum sucking job for you.
FOwb
Absolutely spot on mate. Age may have diminished you but that pea brain of yours still has memory function. As long as it’s not trying to remember what you’ve gone to the bathroom for!:))
Just how on earth we got out of there intact that day is something I’ll never understand.
As for your prize, it’s in the pos!
If I remember correctly, Pulis walked out on Stoke years ago because Moxey was there. He took over at Plymouth for a while and returned to Stoke when Moxey departed. So I can’t see him heading off to Norwich anytime soon.
Wolfstroker
Please please please accept Jezz Moxey did a great job at Wolves, that has helped bring about this excitement all Wolves fans, are now experiencing.
Solbakken too was the revolution supported by fans, especially when Wolves were 3 in the league.
We know the rest that you of course blame Moxey for as it,s convenient and easy to do.
Not the useless uninspiring managers they had bad luck in selecting including KJ.
Zenga is still, while inspiring and exciting us all, having to prove that he may achieve something or may not. We have to wait and see.
Whatever Jezz Moxey has left the building move on with your empty one and one gossip theories making two. Old hat.
…bad luck in selecting…? pmsl. They were inept in their selection, flapped, panicked and had no idea, resulting in catastrophe. IMO.
I wasn’t criticising Jez, Amanda. Just stating the facts. I live near Plymouth and heard all about it at the time. Pulis left because he wasn’t given enough money to strengthen as he wanted. As soon as Jez left, Pulis upped sticks from down yer and high-tailed it back to Stoke. And the rest is history.
2 0 – hard fought win full of graft.
Coady (vs his old team – how many times does that happen!) and Bodvarsson.
Happy journey back to Bedford. Red wine – Boddingtons and three card brag?
We arrive at Huddersfield station at 11.26 – quick Italian grub – then for a pint – any blogger going? Where are you drinking if you fancy a meet.
Cheers
BOG
Jezza taking Wolves business Sylla the Black to Norwich ay ?
http://readnorwich.com/2016/08/25/norwich-keen-on-sylla/
Tried to be clever last week and forecasted a draw at Small Heath, serves me right I suppose.
As others have said this will undoubtedly be our hardest game yet, and god knows what team WZ will send out, but I have the faith if not the dream (yet).
Will go for a win but not a clean sheet.
Wolves v Huddersfield was the first and only time my Dad took me to a football match. 1967, aged 9, Wolves had just signed The Doog and he was making his home debut against Hull and my parents chose that day to be late home with my pocket money – I missed the hat-trick and the 4-0 thrashing.
As some sort of apology, he took me to see us play Huddersfield under lights the following Wednesday(?).
We stood on the old South Bank and my main memory is of complete embarassment at the songs being belted out on the North Bank. At this distance, I’m sure my Dad could have answered that “the bastard in black” was the referee but back then I didn’t think he knew a swear word other than “bloody”.
I think we won 1-0 that night and so that’s what I’m going with for this Saturday.
Barcelona were reportedly watching incoming Wolves signing Roman Saiss in January
The Moroccan international had some serious interest in the winter.
It looks increasingly likely that Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of signing midfielder Romain Saiss.
The Express and Star first reported that the Angers midfielder was the latest player the club are keen on signing.
L’Equipe went on to report yesterday that the 26-year-old has agreed a four-year deal to join Wolves, who will pay the French club a fee in the region of £3.4 million for his services, and a deal is now just awaiting ratification.
Saiss is undoubtedly a player who has been picking up quite a reputation recently.
Not only did he reject the chance to talk to Aston Villa in January, but Saiss has also been scouted by European giants Barcelona this year.
Spanish paper Sport reported in January that Barcelona were scouting the player and considering making a move for the player.
It was claimed that Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernandez was a big fan of the player and felt he could not only play at holding midfield, but at centre-back.
However, it looks as though Wolves are going to get in before anybody else and snap up the Moroccan international this summer.
But the fact Barcelona were so keen on the player should be a testament in itself to the potential of the player to be a hit at Molineux.
Keep up Amanda, that is old hat!!!
I have to put up with a loud mouth Yorkshire gob on legs at our local every now and then and he supports Huddersfield so I am praying for a victory just to shut the bugged up for a week at least.
Let’s all land at Wight Wolf’s local and give him our full support!! 🙂
One of the first real tests for Zenga with my opinion that Huddesfield will not be there with Brighton Norwich Fulham Newcastle QPR at the final curtain..
Will we attack or defend a bit? Or as you said covertly ‘this manager filling the team with midfielders’ who could keep match possession for us.
A draw as we consolidate would be a result as negative as it sounds and I would be very pleased with that..
We have potential match winning players lining up so who can tell..
Momentum is with us if we win then we will turn a lot of heads..
COYW and Sako plse.
Remember when betting to use the Wolves partner 21 Bet, unless someone else is giving better odds then go elsewhere.
Paul Gladon, Dutch striker, allegedly on his way and be announced along with Saisse. Seems same type as Bodvarsson, tall, strong, quick, holds the ball up well etc.
Altogether now:
And we’re feeling
(Boom-boom)
Gladon all over!
Can’t beat a bit of classic Dave Clark Five!
Huddersfield away always reminds me of the Easter double header against them in the 1966/67 promotion season. We won both games 1-0 with 51,000 at the Molineux game. Fabulous stuff!
Going for a 1-1 draw but hoping for a win to take us top of the table.
BOG – get us a programme please?
Will do Dave – text you at half and full time
BOG
Dave Clarke who? Bit before my time mate!!!!
Who you trying to kid? You’re 60 if you’re a day! Lol
Thanks mate 60 on 14 aug 17. Hard life.
Uddersfield …. …. Who should be worried about that lot?
We’ve got some big guns of our own now ….always do well there..apart from when we lose ?…….so no need to despair or fret….
Clean sheet number 3 coming up…..
We have played very positive so far this season but we will again need to step up a notch to bear Huddersfield at home, let’s hope that Rajiv has a crap match and all our new signing play well
Onwards and upwards !!
I’ll be more than happy with an away draw, but hoping for better. I wouldn’t be surprised if CBJ was drafted in to shore up the defence.
He scored for fun once all is forgiven as far as I’m concerned..
Same as Sako..
Nope. Had his chance so he can stay away, as far as I am concerned.
Sako was a decent player in an average Wolves team who has,nt cut the mustard at a higher level.
Regressive move.
Meaning returning to a former or less developed state; characterized by regression.
End of.
Will take a point and stay unbeaten….
I disagree that this is our first big test, every game from day one is our test if we are to get out of this league. We can only beat the 11 men in front of us each week and that’s what we have to do each time from now onwards.
With no disrespect to Huddersfield I do believe we have bought better quality than most in the league. (We are not finished either)
So I go for 3-1 to Wolves, I shall be there with the other lucky souls who got tickets as Wolves 12th Man.
COMB’s
Will call you when I get there mate. Mine’s a Bovril.
If Costa’s fit and plays I think our attack will prevail. I don’t see Huddersfield being in contention at the end of the year.
Walter Zenga seems an unpredictable chap.
Especially when it comes to picking a team.
How will he mould our new arrivals in with our old boys?
Certainly his mental approach has turned on Coady & Saville’s feet.
I like to think he’s been pleasantly surprised by the latent skills he’s seen in our players.
Can he turn Jack Price into a Lionel Messi ?
Maybe he can meditate on it with Madonna one eve?
Even if he picks 10 midfielders and puts JDB in goal he’ll do it cos he knows he’s a winner….
May my optimism for Wolves this Autumn be still blooming in the Spring.
Without doubt 9 players signed inc Saiss with a Dutchman at the door yet Walter, has had massive faith in Wolves 2015/16 players.
Will be the test going forward of creating that settled promotion side, from a vast array of talent and succeeding.
2-1 away win to the Wolves!
I have fond memories of Huddersfield away bull and froggart anyone? I will go with the same score again. COYW!
This clash will measure both teams after the acquisition of several new players.
Times are changing for both teams, who ever wins this clash could claim top spot come 5pm.
After Tuesday nights game I’m a bit worried about our two central defenders as I have been for a while,
they seem to be going backwards in their play or is it a confidence thing, let’s hope its a bit of a blip and they pull through.
Midfield looked better with Jack Price in but WZ may have other ideas
I will be happy to share the points but I’m going for a 2-1 to the Wolves.
Hoping for the two new players mentioned to play a part.UTW.
Mason and Wallace goals
Some of the players from last season have thrived and are relishing the challenge and the chance. Wallace and Mason are 2 examples. Some players have not taken the opportunity Henry is 1 example. Time is running out for some who will soon be forgotten in the new world.
Time for Huddersfield to get a reality check. Watch out for VLP who has got the ability and who I think we should have kept
I think that 8 midfield team on Tuesday was a one off. Maybe Hause and Iorfa will be encouraged to up their game after being selected again in the England Under 21 squad.
I’d certainly take Afobe back on loan, rather have him than Rhodes or Martin.
Whatever, we can win this match, now our new players are being integrated into the starting eleven, and Walter decides on his best team.
Bodvarsen to score most weeks !
Narrow hard fought win
Stevie Showcase
100% in disagreement with you about Afobe and Sako.
Both of them couldnt wait to get to a Prem side, any Prem side and had no loyalty or faith in the club.
Bournmouth and Palace for fucks sake?
And where are they now in their respective pecking orders?
Our sights are set way above what those two clubs will achieve, and we need players who will be on board for the whole ride, all the way to Champions League qualification, and ultimately winning the damned thing!!
I agree regarding Afobe who jumped ship asap and who sulked his way through the first half of that season – will never forget when Alf got the late winner at home to Charlton and as every other player went crazy celebrating together Afobe turned and walked back to the half way line alone. Hen at the final whistle he was off down the tunnel like a ferret down a hole. Mind you would you be happy being played out of position and with KJ as your boss?
Sako on the other hand is quite a different case in my opinion. He could have gone when we dropped into the 3rd division but stayed and was brilliant. He could have gone that Summer but stayed and was brilliant. He only left when his contract had finished – he gave his all in that last game at home to Millwall and at the end he had genuine tears in his eyes.
So for me I’d welcome Sako back anytime with open arms. Afobe? Hmmmm, maybe, perhaps. Not sure.
Must totally agree with Clive in a state somewhere,
Afobe has answered all the attacks by Arsenal fan experts on why he was released.
Sako a decent time in an average Wolves Championship side.
Both now unable to meet Premier League demands.
Such talk is regressive not Back to the Future.
Huddersfield have recorded 3 narrow victories all be it one very creditable one at Newcastle. There new faces while large in number are from the bargain basement and after the initial adrenalin rush they may find form difficult to maintain. Still a tough test but one we can pass.
In the recent past when Wolves have a chance to really make it tell, we are left wanting. But this time, I don’t think so ! 2-0 and i will be their. COYW.
The thing I like about Walta Zenga is that he suits the Wolves (fans) down to the ground.
This is the most exciting period since Graham Turner (Bull et al).
Sorry about all the brackets but I’m teaching the girlfriend’s daughter algebra (soon and it’s catching). Well somebody has to!
Wolves to win. and win and win………3-2
Place your prediction in the box under your name for it to count mate.
That van la parra couldn’t hit a cows arse wth a banjo
Glory glory Wolverhampton
Glory glory Wolverhampton
And the wolves go marching on on on
Apart from the first half hour or so at Rotherham and Small Heath we have absolutely dominated in away games and scored 5 goal to boot. At least another couple coming up. Think we may concede 1 so that will fuckin do me. 2-1 to the boys. Huddersfield is the sort of place you would go in to a chip shop and either Dickie Bird or Geoffrey Boycott would be in there ordering steak and kidney pudding and chips. With a pickled egg. There is also likely to be a fondly raised racing pigeon called Harold at the bar of the local pub supping a pint of freshly brewed ale called ‘ the Devils bollocks’ 13.8% no fuckin nonesense brew. Harold is likely to advise that Southern softie racing pigeons only drink shit like Skoll lager. Happily all will end well as we mek our way um
Not sure where you got the extra 10,000 from Bedford. I was there too and it was 41,000 I recall. Great times those.
With regard to these calls for a return of Sako, I just don’t see how he could operate effectively on our narrow pitch. He needs space to get those thighs into top gear and to power past defenders. Space that no longer exists. However, I can’t agree with Clive’s contention that he had no loyalty. Was that a Sako apparition we saw tearing teams to shreds in league 1 then? If he had no loyalty he would have cleared off after our relegation.
I agree about not going for Adobe though. Overrated in my view and he clearly downed tools in the months before his move.
Just looked it up and it was 40,424 so you are closest!
I blame old age – I’ve been told a million times not to exaggerate.
I used to love those double headers – August, Christmas and Easter.
Huddersfield don’t scare me. Nobody scares me ( maybe our own back four, but they doing OK so far). Ill say 2-0 but could be more.
As Clive from ooostun says were the big boys now (or were getting there). There are bigger tests to come.
Nobody scares you ? You’re not married then…?
Another thing I’ve always noticed, and has always left me grinning at shows on WM phone in’s and suchlike, is that you’ll get Wolves fans on moaning about pretty pretty-much everything from having Tony Daley as our fitness coach (longer odds than Leicester winning the Prem’, I reckon), to Ken fielding boring teams to drag everybody’s weekend into the doldrums and yet still blurt out stuff like; Wolves to win 5-0 when pushed for a score.
.
Mental, and fabulous!!
3-1…….. thinking about it
Anyone who goes on the WM phone in is deluded emd of.
Just what Franksy wants, fans with tunnel vision and no experience whatsoever, of owning managing or playing professional football, spouting their view LIVE.
DELUSIONAL meaning.
Psychiatry. maintaining fixed false beliefs even when confronted with facts, usually as a result of mental illness:
Need to place your prediction in the box under your name for it to count IC.
Ist half was dire. 2nd half not much better. Saville and Edwards were crap. I did not think Bhatt played badly but Ikeme not too good. This should give Walt enough ammunition to start replacing those who are failing with the new boys. Another striker should be a priority as we could have won this with one who can score regularly.
Best part of the afternoon was meetin up with Stu and his nephew, and meeting a guy who reads the blog but doesn’t post!
Worst part was it taking me 40 mins to get out of the car park.
Come on me babbies you are better than this.
Journey home took longer than it should have.

Matt there is a good clip on you tube Wolves fans in concourse at Birmingham goes something like this
ZENGA ZENGA ZENGA HE’S TAKING US TO THE PREMIER THE PREMIER THE PREMIER WHOOOAAAA WHOOOAAA WE LIKE IT WE LIKE IT WE LIKE IN FACT WE FUCKING LOVE IT WE LOVE IT WE LOVE IT WHOOOAAA WHOOOAAA
Pour yourself a G&T and take a look (better on there than it is on here).
Cheers Col . No gin last night . Had to do some of that work stuff
I m in the bath now about to watch it
Fucking brilliant .
You know we re going to be champions don’t you !.
His name is Walter Zenga
He’s bought half of Benfica
Our owners are from China
And we am gonna beat ya
So ……………………………………………….
Wolves to win 3-1
No surrender!
I like this …………………..
Clive .
…Sako was pretty brilliant you have to admit ..besides feeding Dicko he must be the closest to the skills of Waggy ..
He could hit a ball too and as much as Moxey let him go because of wages and KJ for being inept I didn’t blame him for leaving..
It was his agent pitching him to WBA
and of course he ended up at Pardews Palace where he was up against their current PL players..
He had wolves blood tried his heart out but our defence (Steers and DB and EEL) gave the game away at the back several times after he single handedly took the game to our opponants on his own ..
He currently is cheap and could come on loan..Graham even at his best is not up to Sako on his best.
Afobe: prob the best striker since Steve Bull (who’s / was better?) and I believe there is a undisclosed story re Morgan / Moxey Jacket..
He was getting into his stride with us particularly with KMac feeding him but he became a lone striker and even a defender!
Eddie Howe had/has too much attackers and he must of IMO been practising his attitude problem which assigns him to the bench.,
Our Walter would drool over both of them and they both would balance out some of the Mendes stuff..
Basically guaranteed goals and the PL .Period.
Wolves to win 3-1
No surrender!
Afobe and Sako are yesterday, mate. Get over it.
Sako was briiliant for us. However, we went separate ways. He made his choice, realised his dream and went to the Prem. And so far it hasn’t really worked out for him.
That’s life. That’s football. Tough shit.
Sako, close to David Wagstaff?………… yeah right
This will be the game that defines our season. A strong away win at a contenders.
How’s that for positivity?
Huddersfield showed some promise last season and I’ve got a cheeky bet on them making the play-offs this season. Perhaps I have a personal affinity due to them being my university town but I do wish them good luck. I might be remembering incorrectly due to a few beverages but I’m sure they’ve been a bit of a bogey team for us in the past. I predict a challenge and a few goals with points shared.
Waggy played for us for twelve years and excited us for all of them.
When we have another winger as skilful and as exciting constantly then we might do a comparison.
Might being the operative word.
Brief comments on what I’ve read above.
I’d take Jordan Graham over Bakary Sako every time. The boy has a massive future.
Afobe? No thanks. Bridges burned when he stopped trying.
No chance of Iorfa and Hause being our central defenders against Huddersfield. Danny Batth and A N Other for me.
Tough game coming up but a tough game for them too and the cheap ticket giveaway shows they’re worried. And rightly so.
Hear hear. I rate Sako without doubt, but he was a luxury player. I know he could win a game for us in 10 minutes, but he rarely played for 90 mins and that is what I want. I saw a few matches where his playing about caused us to lose the ball and on at least two instances concede, instead of him playing the “easy ball” for a possible scoring opportunity. As I said, in my opinion he is a luxury player who should not be brought back.
Agree wholeheartedly about Afobe. A player should NEVER stop trying, he did and therefore he should also stay away.
We don’t need these two. They are yesterday.
How dare you both disagree lol..
Players sometimes don’t try to burn their bridges their agents do..throw in a crap limp manager and a intransigent owner and who looses out?
Us the fans..
AGAIN I must predict a draw but am optimistic about everything zenga is doing and am hopeful of some of these signings coming off. I hope my prediction is proven wrong AGAIN
Me too Slawwolf!
I’m still worried about the defence particularly Dominic and Kortney’s inability to concentrate for 95 mins.
COMBs!
We won’t go through the season undefeated, so we need to expect a few bad days. Early in the season, not sure of our best team, playing away at an in-form team, utilising a defence that we thought was not good enough last year… would not be a shock to come home empty handed
I think (hope?) it will be more comfortable than expected. We have the midfield to dominate and the forwards to score. Hopefully if young BJ works out well at LB we would also have a solid defence. I am going for a 2-0 win. BTW it is so nice to see so many positive predictions.
I’d take a draw.
Braga defender Willy Boly has reportedly rejected a move to Wanderers.
According to reports from A Bola, Braga defender Willy Boly has rejected a big money move to Championship outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves have shown a lot of ambition in the transfer market following the club’s £45 million takeover by wealthy Chinese group Fosun International.
Due to the investment company’s links with super agent Jorge Mendes, Wolves have tapped into the Portuguese market and the likes of Helder Costa, Ola John and Joao Teixeira have been acquired by the club this summer.
High profile names such as Talisca and Luisao were also strongly linked with a move to Molineux but the aforementioned transfers broke down at the last minute.
With a week to go before the end of the transfer window, we are still looking to recruit a few new players and are unsurprisingly, scouring the Portuguese Primeira Liga in a bid to strengthen our squad.
Recently, reports from Portugal had claimed that we were eyeing up a swoop for Braga star Willy Boly to strengthen our backline.
Boly played a crucial role in helping Braga to a fine 4th placed finish in the Portuguese top flight as well as an extended run in the Europa League last term and Wolves boss Walter Zenga was said to have identified the 25-year-old as a target.
Now in a further development to the story, Portuguese outlet A Bola have gone on to claim that Wolves had indeed placed an offer worth up to £6.8 million for Boly but the defender has decided against a switch to Molineux.
The report states that Boly does not want to play in the Championship and will not be joining Wolves despite the lucrative offer on the table.
Read it already. And all your other posts. Thanks for putting them on here for those who haven’t.
All of these ‘cut and paste’ transfer items are readily available on Newsnow.co.uk which is updated every 5 minutes or so.
Walter Zenga has been like a breath of fresh air, re-energising current players and introducing new players that have slotted into the team with impact, flair and energy.
Next up is Huddersfield. We have nothing to fear, we are superior to them in all departments.
We are Wolves
Onwards and Upwards
🙂
It’s been great to see how well our bunch of young players have responded to Walter’s philosophy, a far cry from the go slow adopted by the Roger Hunt, Karl Henry et al under Stale Solbakken when he brought new ideas to the team.
We’ll have a great season as this new team, the best of the old combined with those of the new signings who can adapt, play real football, and entertain us all the way to May.
A lot of positivity on the blog but I’m not convinced we’re going to get anything from this game. There’s always a dark horse in the Championship and Huddersfield have had a fantastic start beating some good teams along the way. Whether or not they’ll last the pace remains to be seen but this isn’t a good time to be playing them.
While I’m pleased with our points total our performances have been understandably patchy and the only decent team we’ve played – Ipswich – made us look second best.
I’d be happy with a point but I think we’ll lose. If we do win this one I might start catching all this positivity!
Latest Wolves gossip.
According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a move to sign Atalanta striker Mauricio Pinilla.
Wolves are enjoying great success in the transfer market right now, as the likes of Prince Oniangue, Ola John, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have all arrived in recent weeks.
Yet, with just five days of the summer transfer window left to go, Wolves show no sign of slowing down, and now appear to be in the market for another striker.
Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Wolves have made an approach to Atalanta for strikre Mauricio Pinilla – but a deal looks far from straightforward.
Pinilla, 32, has endured a nomadic career to date, signing for the likes of Inter Milan, Sporting, Heart of Midlothian, Vasco da Gama, Palermo, Genoa and now Atalanta.
In recent years, Pinilla’s greatest successes have come with Grosseto, scoring 24 goals in 24 games for the Italian side, and then with Cagliari, where he hit 22 goals in 63 appearances.
Last season, Pinilla hit five goals in 20 games for Atalanta, and has allegedly asked to leave the Serie A club, with Wolves now moving to try and sign the striker, who has scored eight times in 43 caps for the Chilean national team.
However, Wolves not only face competition from clubs in Argentina and Brazil, but it’s also claimed that Pinilla would rather stay in Italy right now, having been settled there since 2009.
A strong centre forward with impressive aerial ability, Pinilla has been something of a hot head on the pitch and somewhat controversial off it, having got his penalty miss against Brazil at the 2010 World Cup tattooed on himself (The Independent), and would certainly be an interesting signing for Wolves – but whether they can tempt him to Molineux remains to be seen.
I think we can do fine without him, sounds like trouble.
Good luck to Huddersfield at making the playoffs (would certainly prefer a team like them instead of QPR for instance) but it’s the top spot we’re after. Right?
Huddersfield will be a test, as will up to Newcastle twice in a few days. We’re a work in progress but so are the other fancied teams. I’m backing us to continue the unbeaten run at least but I think we can better that at Huddersfield. 3-1.
I think that was a good preview Thomas and agree with most that you said. I’d find a place for teixeira as I think he looks like making things happen every time he’s on the ball. I think we’ll play well tomorrow but just run out of luck. Hope I’m wrong
A chance to see the statue of the only PM under which we won a world cup, probably the last labour PM that will get a statue and Wolves away win.
Huddersfield are a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment but their early season form is pretty good and I do still worry about the centre of our defense. A creditable draw for me.
No team wants to see an unbeaten run end at Huddersfield and it will not happen. I’m unsure how to fit everyone into the starting XI but hopefully Texeira, Costa & Dadi make it in although I suspect Ola and Prince may also be vying for places. Whoever ends up starting, I’m anticipating a comfortable win.
Can’t get there myself as, like LWL, I failed to book on the London Wolves trip but hope everyone there give VLP dog’s abuse throughout.
Still going for clean sheet and goals created by quick counters.
Im going for us to just about squeeze past Huddersfield well that’s my hope anyway. I’d take sako to help get us to the prem. While he was with us I read he scored more/had more assists than anyone else over the same time period in the top 4 leagues in England. That’s the type of player I’d have all day.
Tough one again. Just stabbing in the dark at the moment.
2-2
No idea why, but it always seems to me that when we become confident, we become vulnerable, and often make stupid mistakes that cost us in what is a one off bad game. Huddersfield is going to be one of those I’m afraid, a tepid performance lacking a cohesive defensive performance with a stupid mistake costing us the points.
I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, I may be reading more into this than there is but, Dicko isn’t in the U23 sqaud to play WBA at all tonight?????
Seems too early for a full comeback given that we were told a month only recently.
Good sign though!! 🙂
Apologies to Bedford for stealing his quote but I am also thinking draw hoping for a win
Hope there will be lots of goals for wolves.
Difficult game. I suspect we would settle for a point now.
A 1-1 draw appeared to me out of the blue. However, I’m currently full of confidence in our team along with WZ’s substitutions so bugger it – it’s 3 points for the lads tomorrow.
This is a question that almost certainly nobody on the blog can answer but I wonder what input Big Walt has in the players that we are being linked with?
To us, sitting on the outside, it seems like a never ending random list of names that are put forward and then either dropped for whatever reason or signed.
The only link is that they are almost exclusively foreign.
It must be a full time job just finding players who are available and might fit in. Let alone trying to coach the existing squad.
Is it Zenga?
Or Thelwell?
Or Mendes?
Or one of the Chinese consortium?
Whatever, WZ seems quite happy to take them and try and make a team out of them, so far be it from me to complain.
Just asking.
Doog have the answer.
You are forgetting Andrea Butti. Manager of Logistics in other words player transfers.
He was the man on his at Old Trafford with José Mourinho not as reported Walter too.
Walters fellow countryman and assistant as Technical Director.
Andrea Butti, former Assistant Technical Director at Monaco and Press and Team Manager at Inter Milan will fulfil a new role of Team General Manager, reporting into Walter Zenga. He will help to co-ordinate the activities of the first team and technical staff, including managing logistics and operations, along with off the pitch requests for Wolves’ first team squad.
Good shout.
I wonder where that leaves Mr Thelwell?
Does he now become redundant?
English teacher and car park attendant on matchdays.
Last time I went to Uddersfield on a bitterly cold night, was it 2 years ago? and we somehow won 4-1, with van Para, Afobe and Dicko too quick for the home side. I`m sure since that game the flying Dutchman had been on their radar. On his day at our level he was unplayable, lets hope tomorrow is n`t one of those, too often he was a lightweight, pity is not a freezing cold night again, or a muddy winter pitch to reduce his effectiveness.
We just can`t keep a clean sheet with our young defenders, so I`m going for another 3-1 win, after all whats the point in travelling and expecting or predicting a draw or defeat.
Saturdays are so much more fun right now.
Would love to meet a few of you if you’re heading to the Toon. I need to make up for my spectacular failure to get organised in time for the Bloggers’ Bash! I’ll definitely be going to the cup match at St James’ Park, but would need help from some STHs to get a couple of tickets for the league game on the 17th Sept if that’s possible. Doubt there’ll be any left by the time they go on general sale.
If you can help please leave me a reply and I’ll give you my email address.
Anyway, back to matters in hand. Not sure what to make of this tie. Don’t know much about the lives of ‘Udders…

My Nephew from Northallerton has has 7 this week off his STH mate down here.
I think this will be an easier game than blues. Huddersfield have been lucky up to now.
Easy 3-1 win !!! I can dream?
If we can get the Siass deal tied up (don’t understand why Wolves take so long) then Wolves have been reported to have increased their offer to Barnsley for Alfie Mawson today.
A complete team if that comes off as well.
Zenga said in an iterview this week, “if I need 20 players, they will find them for me”, now that’s a bit more positive than the M&M twins.
Thanks Amanda for the Gladon link.
It seems to me that there are grounds for optimism over the season as a whole. I suppose there will be setbacks, but for me optimism is the order of the day – until proved wrong. We seem to be able to score – and some very well-worked goals we’ve seen so far – so it may come down to the philosophy that it doesn’t matter if they score 3 so long as we score 4, certainly the defence isn’t 100% yet. So I’m going for 4-2.
In 1957-8 Man City in the old First Division scored 104 and let in 100 – that’s entertainment! They only finished fifth so we’ll need to do better than that – and I think we will. In 57-8 a certain Wolverhampton Wanderers finished top -for 103, against 47 (42 matches). What an attack! What a defence! – What a team!
I’d happily take a draw here but I’ll go for the win. Anyone’s guess what the team will be.
As for Afobe possibly coming back – no way! He couldn’t wait to get out the door, didn’t want to put the effort in & wasn’t interested – stuff him. We need players who are proud to wear the old gold & black!
Unleash the Wolves!
Seems Hudd are managed by Klopp’s previous right-hand man at Dortmund, Wagner. So we can probably expect them to play in that style – high energy, high pressing. But we have players capable of moving the ball around at speed, and I think the jury is still out on just how good Hudd really are. Us to take it.
Hey Bedford old gold .
Accidentally was looking at the wrong blog page when I noticed that you d posted me an invitation and a route to Huddersfield . What a thoughtful and detailed thing it was
I’m not going now but I wish I was . And you are doing it in style .
Listen mate .. I sometimes bump into Bedford and a fine fellow he is , if you’re with him sometime , remind me to buy you a beer ( if that’s not too down market for you boys .
Enjoy the 3 v 1 win tomorrow .. My ear will be glued to the game .
There in spirit
Up the mighty wolves
Narrow win for us I think, late winner.
German coach v Italian coach, should be a tactician’s dream. Italian flair against German machine, flair will overcome and Wolves to win. Still think the defence is our weak link so no clean sheet but we don’t seem to have any problems scoring ( perhaps be more clinical with our chances) let’s make it Groundhog Day 3-1 and top of the league.
Many different names on the Huddersfield score sheets this season thus far so back four will need to be more alert; no sign of VLP’s name but not sure if that is a good sign or not. Huddersfield also keen on scoring late goals so obviously not a team likely to settle for a draw; Wolves must not either.
We shit on the Albion
We shit on the Albion tonight
Wolves U23s 3 – 1 Albion U23s at Molineux in front of 604 happy teddies.
They scored first and their fans took the Piss, then we got a Penalty and Conor Ronan slotted home with the skill and Precision James Henry and Paul Gladon can only dream of.
Then Nail Ennis made an amazing chip over the goalie to set Bright up. Bright got the 3rd off a nice cross into the box.
Watched it from the WV1 bar after a nice meal. A good time was had by one and all.
Strangely enough the score I preficted for tomorrow. 🙂
I thought Ipswich would be hard and Birmingham would be easy.
This one is more tricky as both teams have new players and systems.
Mmmmmm, can see Huddersfield getting an early goal but then Wolves attack will hammer three past them.
Would like to see some new faces in the starting line up tomorrow. But last year’s model did pretty well last week, so what do I know. Nothing about football that’s for sure. Art, now that’s a different matter. So here’s to painting Huddersfield gold tomorrow.
Still not sure what to expect but feeling confident about this one. Jack Price to start and Wolves to boss midfield. Same as last week?
A good performance hopefully. Goals will keep the momentum going
No idea but Huddersfield a difficult test.
Why could,nt and why did,nt this failed manager, come out in the E & S last season and criticise Jackett then ?
Great player but hardly inspirational now.
Oh yeah and who writes the article for him certainly not himself.
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2016/08/27/steve-bull-you-can-see-wolves-foundations-being-built-by-walter/?
I think you’ll find that 90% of sports men and women writing for the media are ghost written by professionals Amanda.
Some hack asks them a couple of questions and then makes an article from the answers.
I personally feel that Stevey Bull is above any kind of criticism whatsover. Especially from Wolves fans.
Leave him alone 🙂
Thanks Doog I should have known yes the questions are asked of him then reported.
Kford and Bully is not above reproach despite his great football as aq player..
Last season as a divided football club everyone was feeling the anguish of the situation.
A honorary Vice President of the club bestowed on him by the board..
Where was he in creating unity for Wolverhampton Wanderers football club, board and supporters at such a desperate time ?
Missing in action that is where.
Lucky for him the Chinese saved his bacon/role.
My dad says the great Derek Dougan apparently loved by everyone at Wolves, was vilified by some fans, over his involvement with the Bhattis. He put himself forward to help the great club and the fans he loved back, in what he later regretted was a mistake. He at least raised his head above the parapets my dad goes on to say another quality difference of the two centre forwards.
Loved him as a footballer but not as a fence sitter.
Going for a narrow win.
It will be great going top of the table.
COYW
agree with clive we are scoring 5 sometime soon and it may be today
All aboard the Zenga bus – another win for the lads!
We are on a roll and I can’t see it ending yet. A clean sheet and an away win. COYW.
Who knows how this game is going to play out? Far too early to tell but I wouldn’t be surprised if we put in a full-blooded performance & win this one. Come on me babbies!
Going to.have,splinters on my arse
Going for a,draw, which I will.take cmon the wolves.mason to score
Happy to take a draw from this one. Considering the lack of pre season planning 9 points so far is more than good
Amanda had a bit of a go last week accusing me of being negative for predicting a defeat against Brum and for being concerned that despite rumours regarding a further number of possible new players, it had all gone a bit quiet around that time.
Since then of course we’ve had that brilliant league performance and victory against the Brummies and brought in a further 3 new players (to date). So after all this I’m feeling buoyant and positive Amanda. Hope you are too.
Forgive me for one small negative but we continue to be rumoured with all and sundry in the quest for further squad additions. Without knowing the “ins & outs” it seems a bit of a rushed scatter-gun approach rather than a calculated thought out strategy. But what the heck – after what we all had to suffer last season, let’s just enjoy the ride.
As for today’s match, I feel confident that we can come away with another win.
I’m taking Huddersfield to start strongly, go 2 up, then we turn it round: GOALS! GOALS! GOALS!
Being positive, and unable to change from my normal weekly prediction
Midfield looks a little light not much of a shield for the back four ( hope i have just put my foot in that gap).
think and hope the confidence is growing UTW
Easy peasy. Touch me
1-1 draw for me
Fuckin’ reject scores against us!
Happens every time!
Now get the five I predicted
Listening to the commentary, Clive. We can’t play any worse in the 2nd half!!!
I wonder if this will be the point where Zenga realizes there’s still plenty of work to do to build a side capable of maintaining a genuine promotion push.
21% possession first half on our way to a right mullering ?
He’s playing Edwards and 95% of last years team
No wonder weem losin’!
Sounded like Huddersfield just well organised no more than that. RVLP there best player today ? An avoidable defeat dont really see a future for Saville or Edwards in the team.
1st half crap texeira needed to play prince too ..DB serious Q over him happens again and again ..
Mendes please take note no5 needed and a Sako type player who can dominate the game..
Just saying..
Be interesting to hear the reasoning behind not starting more than one new signing.
If Jeff dont like it we might be manager hunting soon!!!!
That really must have been last-chance for some of the old guard.
Couple more signings this week and bye-bye to last season’s team.
Losing 1-0 because of a really poor first half is F*CKING ANNOYING!
