Four wins and two draws.

That’s what I reckon Wolves need to finish the season inside the Championship’s top six.
Getting those 14 precious points will represent a solid achievement too.
My blueprint for success has us drawing at Forest next Friday, before beating Leeds at Molineux three days later.
A point at St. Andrew’s in the derby follows and I’ve then allowed for a defeat at Middlesbrough to try and keep things realistic.
Then it’s simple, win all three of the remaining games against Ipswich, Wigan and Millwall to sprint over the line. Job’s a good’un.
By my reckoning, 79 points should be enough to narrowly see off the threat of Brentford and Ipswich having also totted up their remaining fixtures.
Brentford have some highly winnable games against the likes of Wigan, Bolton and Fulham, but must also navigate Forest at home and tough away contests at Derby and Sheffield Wednesday. I’ve got them finishing on 78.
Ipswich commence their run-in with a home game against Bournemouth but then have more presentable Portman Road fixtures in the form of Blackpool and Cardiff.
Their final three matches are Wolves away, Forest at home and Blackburn away though, so I’m hoping they’ll peter out and finish on 77.
Victory over Derby last Friday also brought the Rams within shooting distance, but I’ve got them roaring home on 84 points, which could conceivably put them back in automatic contention.
Of course none of this is close to scientific with the Championship anything but predictable and with such thin margins to play with, it’s clearly anyone’s game.
I’ve heard a lot of people suggest that the fact the table is so condensed this season is a reflection of a lower standard. I disagree.
Some of the football the likes of Derby, Watford, Bournemouth and Brentford have played against us has been better than I’ve ever seen in the second tier. Wolves haven’t been too shabby either I might add.
OK, there isn’t one outstanding side, but I think it’s harder than ever to be better than everyone else in this notoriously competitive league.
No doubt Chelsea’s Premier League procession will get all the column inches through April and May, but for sheer entertainment I don’t think anything has surpassed the Championship this year.
If we’re still in it next season, there are certainly worse places to be.
My predicted outcomes
Derby
Watford (h) – 1
Wigan (a) – 3

You are right Thomas, it could all be very close. Real pity that whilst KJ and the team are giving it a real good go, Morgan, moxey and thelwell conspire miserably to fail to deliver any decent additions to what is now a pretty thin squad beyond the first 14 or 15. In the spirit of the election, I suggest we all have a whip round and hire Jeremy paxman to interview Morgan and moxey live on itv followed by a town hall style meeting with the fans. Moxey’s achievements for the wolves seem pretty similar to ed balls when he was running the economy and Morgan often has the air of a detached twat a la Dave Cameron. Thelwell reminds me of nick clegg in that everyone knows involved he is in some way but no one is really sure why or what he does.
Yeah – he’s a bit like a tortoise on top of a gate post. No one knows how he’s got there or what he’s doing up there. He definitely didn’t get there by himself and he doesn’t belong up there. He’s obviously elevated beyond his ability to function and isn’t really sure what he should do himself. You just wonder what sort of D8ckhe*d put him up there in the first place. Only joking, I think he’s done ok . . . .
Thanks for the Blog Thomas. It’s well thought through and helps us keep involved during the international break.
I find it a bit sad that when promotion has been there for the taking for some time we have failed, yet again, to strengthen the squad with the aim of securing promotion. A couple of short term loan signings would have done the job. The relatively minor outlay involved would be rewarded many fold by the potential windfall promotion would bring and we’d get to keep Sako. But you never know; we are the in form team and if we avoid injury to key players we may still sneak it. I think we are good enough to do Forest, we are certainly capable of beating Brum and it’s not beyond the realms of possibiliy that we beat Boro. We won’t win them all but enough to get in the play offs will do for now. Just hoping that come the seasons end it’s us at the top of that gatepost. We may not know how we got there but that won’t matter a fc*k.
Wolves
Nottm Forest (a) – 3
Leeds (h) – 3
Birmingham (a) – 3
Middlesbrough (a) – 3
Ipswich (h) – 3
Wigan (a) – 3
Millwall (h) – 3
Total = 21 (86 points)
Promoted automatically…..don’t know what the fuss was about and remember you heard it here first.
I like the cut of your jib and your confidence.
Amazing.. I was about to post a similar scenario as real mathematics come into this besides the slip ups..
Logically you are spot on Thomas as it’s not just the teams we play but some have a more difficult run in and an injury could well be critical here too..
I feel that if we do this (77-79pts)we will go into the last place and even GD could play a part of it’s between us and Brentford…
The Ipswich game could be crucial but history and the Wolves expertise of not beating the lower teams could mean that Wigan and particularly Millwall could put up blood pressure to the very end..
We have the forwards to do this..K Mac is on form and our defence is def good enough..will we have a goalie change?
There is so much at stake here the championship is now famous for this and the stomach churning times are coming without doubt..
Forest away for me is almost the most difficult.. I’m actually not looking forward to it..
If we mess this run up even I will
concider this season a success more so as we have a most fantastic potential player in Afobe..
He still could be the highest goal scorer in all divisions and he plays for …Wolves…

76/77 points may do it. Doesn’t matter how we get them.
Great article Thomas … Forecasting is never easy and unless it’s a stable set of parameters it’s friggin impossible. Just like the run in we’re about to embark upon.
On balance I believe we’re on a good run where as Derbysmire, Ipswich and Brentford are having an erratic spell. (Middlesboro too for that matter) … I think also that Watford have got two difficult games against ‘ the chasing pack’ … so it’s all to play for.
I do believe that we’ll make at least the play offs and I’m hoping and praying that we get an automatically spot (coz I’ve to go for some surgery when the play off final takes place )… gutted or what …
Stop fretting man, we’re going up in automatic spot.
You don’t need such a long appendage anyway. (Your appendix, not the other wiggly bit)
Gutted Twix? Now that’s serious surgery.
It’s as well I didn’t put … ” I’m Bollocksed”
As Basil Fawlty once said:-
“They’ll have to sew them back on first”.
Iv’e been reminising these dark days of International duty that are feckin up the flow of our blog.
Watching the Bully goals and taking in the highlights of Wolves down the last 50 years, just about the length of time Iv’e been supporting them. (54 years).
We have had highs and lows, we’ve had good and bad partnerships and we’ve had some good and very bad teams to suffer, but what stuck out watching the Dougan, Bully and those Miller goals was partnerships.
We ran Dougan into the ground until along came a certain John Richards who created a great partnership of understanding the positioning of Doog and fed him with some sublime passes whilst doog took the pressure off him to enable him to bang a few in himself.
Then came Bully who without doubt we fecked his knees up with bombarding him with passes, but he had Andy Mutch to play the same role as Richards, he fed Bully with some sweet passes and tap ins and in turn whilst they were marking Bully, Mutchy sneaked a few himself.
Miller had the luxury of having people likes of Ince, Irwin around him for a while feeding him.
So the present situation we find ourselves in, we’ve had Sako, (blowing hot or cold grabbing a few here and there) Dicko, (bad back and thigh strain) little wonder with the speed the guy has and the help he gets from Sako’s brilliant moments.
Then along came our Afobe after a string of no hopers and pure dross from M&M’s penny pinching (Graham, Sagbo, Lazy town Leon to name a few) suddenly Sako is back on his game he now has two targets, MacDonald has struck up a Sako/Dicko style partnership with Afobe and that leaves Sako and Dicko free from all the leg breaking attention they endured at times.
We have a strike force that’s scaring defences, our goals are coming in numbers the pressure is off Macca so he’s playing better and Dicko isn’t running himself into oblivion every game.
Life is good, if these guys have hit their run in as it seems they have, woe betide any young pretenders that get in the way of these hungry Wolves.
We have it in our power to go where we want, they’re good enough on their day, we need them to nail it for seven more games, easily achievable.

🙂 🙂 🙂
I couldn’t have put it better myself Stu.
I can’t believe you have only been a fan for 54 years that’s starter territory.
I would love to share optimism regards Afobe if we don’t go up this season, however I feel Afobe is plying his trade in the right division right now but deserves top flight football to try out his skill next season.
I would be very surprised if his buy out clause is not activated in close season should we not achieve the step up.
It was a surprise he was not on mid-table and lower premiership club radars this season. So now he’s been thrust into the limelight with his ruthless run of fine goals, he will be on a few shortlists from here on in.
So what’s the buy out clause? I reckon a minimum of £6m and with all the new cash flowing around in the premier, that will be peanuts for a club to take a punt and stick him on the bench.
The plus side is that he has shown us what calibre we need to push on if do not get promoted and £6m plus will be enough to replace him with an average striker and a winger to replace Sako.
Anyway enough of the negativity… I’m with Stu…We’re going up this season anyway!
Oh and I have faith that we’ll take a minimum 17 points from the forthcoming games! It’s a mad division as we know anyone can beat anyone, but I still think we are the team to beat now the strength up front. A very long shot of auto promotion but the playoffs and then playing on such a big pitch as Wembley will suit our pace. So I’m confident of promotion. Plus it would be a cracking day out for the Bloggers!
There are still 4 potential outcomes to the season: Happy Automatic, Play Off Good, Play Off Bad and No Play Off. Hope I didn’t confuse anyone with my technical jargon there.
It’s impossible to predict the league position of any club accurately. Remember when the Spurs players all got a tummy bug in the last week of the season and Arsenal pipped them to 4th? Anything could happen. Any player from any club could suddenly hit unstoppable form or tweak some old injury and not play again till August.
And then there’s the refs, if you want to talk about predictable outcomes then you can forget it with that lot. They will invariably give a game changing decision against the run of play at some point, so one team or another is bound to be buggered no matter how well they play.
I’m just gonna buckle up, enjoy the ride, and look for the positives whatever the outcome.
It would be quite nice to go to Wembley though..
There is one thing we can be certain of in this buttock-clenching end to the season. And that is that we can be sure of nothing. It’s fun to do our predictions and I’ve pored over the fixture list like the rest of us, but the great thing about the Championship is that with a handful of games to go, it’s still all to play for. The Prem has been done and dusted since before Christmas and even at seasons start, only two or three teams could win it. No such luxury for us. And thank £*&k for that.
Whatever happens from here on in, it’s been a great season. Well done KJ for producing a team of real quality using relatively meagre resources. What a difference from the last time the Championship were graced with our presence.
Either way, I predicted a top six finish at the start of the season and I’ve seen nothing recently to change my mind.
COYW 🙂
Thanks for the reality bump back to earth Wolfstroker and Sleachy… You really know how to start a Monday morning! 🙂
With regard to my Afobe blurt above… I would also like to add that in Kenny, he is of the same cloth as Graham Taylor, he does not care of sentiment, he just wants to get on with the job (take the attempted sale of Bull for example).
I suppose the footballing side is technically different as Taylor defended and booted up field, bypassing the midfield. KJ defends just as resiliently but wants to pass it forward with pace. So it’s really the same end result with a different way of transporting the ball!
Now back to Afobe…. The only real difference between our true God SB and Afobe, is the era they have come to grace us. They both came to us relatively cheap and they both now how to stick ball in the net by any means… Head, Foot, Backside… Neither care as long as they go in.
Now the era part is what does concern footy fans, we can talk of loyalty as much as we like but when Coventry tried to poach Bully, he declined as firstly he knew his future was assured at Wolves as a legend (he was in final years of his career) and would not have had that much of a pay rise as he was already on a boat load.
Compared to now, if a club came in for Afobe, they could offer him easily £50k a week, possibly more to sit on the bench. A 5 fold wage increase compared to what could have been (at most) double back then for a player at the start of his career would be a defining factor.
I don’t care how loyal you are to a club, if someone is going to offer you life changing amounts of cash to secure you and your family’s future then you’d be a dick not to accept it.
So I’m backing us to make it this season, so that we can hang on to 2 players that would not be bench warmers for us in the top flight.
Shrews awolf.
To confirm all you have said about loyalty, take a look at the guy in the U21’s Ibiham Keita. You must have heard me mention him once or trillion times, he has an agent and as such the greedy side is rearing it’s ugly.
He is talented there is no doubt, he is skillful and can control the ball and score, but money has his head, an unfortunately he does not seem the brightest firework in the box. (God save the Wueen)
It’s worth a read boys and girls.

IF(and it’s a big if), we don’t get promoted this year, I don’t have too many fears regarding Benik Afobe. We’ve only just signed him with years left on his contract and say what you like about M&M, they don’t let their prized assets go easily or cheaply. Bakary will go,I guess, but we’ve had opportunities to cash in before and kept him as he was deemed essential in the regeneration of our club. Benik likewise will be considered too important to move on unless someone comes in with silly money which we can spend on an able replacement.
Benik himself is in a top end of the Championship team, he’s scoring lots of goals and we fans love him. He seems too sensible to be pushing for a move yet with a long career stretching out before him.
Not for something as inconsequential as money. 🙂
And certainly not for a nowhere team like Crystal Palace.
FOAP
Don’t agree with the clamour for more signings. Four years ago, after surviving on the last day, Johnson & O’Hara were added to the squad, at considerable cost, and look where that got us. KJ has shown that he will only add players with the right attitude as well as ability. It would have been easy to bring in a couple of loan signings, destabilising an already effective squad. Ee have the momentum – let’s go with it! UTW
Johnson was signed for the start of our last season in the PL, surely?
Precisely so – after 3 games we we’re briefly top of the Premier League – then we promptly tumbled down 2 divisions thanks partly to these destabilising influences.
W ith only 7 matches left we find ourselves, once again, becoming

C an we do enough to get into the playoffs?, Are we good enough to get
A utomatic promotion? Will we find ourselves not achieving either? These are
N ot questions we have not asked before.
D eliberating our fate is what we Wovles fans do all the time. We just have to be

I’ll buy you one at the Ipswich match seeing as I am now going. Oh, and I have some spare cash for you too, seeing as the cost of the Leeds ticket is more than the Polo. See you then mate.
The nearer it gets to the end of the season, the more ambivalent I get about whether I want us to get promotion.
Do I want us to win all our remaining games? –
Yes! Of course.
Do I want us to keep all our players who might well be snapped up by Premier League clubs if we don’t get promoted? –
Is the Pope Catholic?… You bet his spotty Argentinian ass I do!
No offence meant to any bloggers of the RC persuasion (or of Argentinian descent).
Do I fancy a trip to Wembley? –
Damn right!
But then I think…
Do I like the idea of us getting beaten most weeks? –
Not much.
Am I going to be able to get tickets for the interesting home matches? –
Not likely.
Do I want Kenny to end up sacked because he’s been trying to keep us up with just the bare bones of a squad? –
Nope!
Do I want to have to sit through hours of bloggers whinging on about the state of the club, it’s owner and it’s CEO? –
Well, Yes actually, it’s more fun than designing brochures for fireplace manufacturers.
Oh! Sod it!
Let’s go for it and hang the consequences!
Hear, hear. I, like yourself, want us to win everything, but to be brutally honest I prefer games in the Championship. We have more chance of winning and the drive home is usually good, as opposed to us getting beat most times in the Prem and the drive home being naff.
My dream is to get promoted, get relegated with loads of dosh. Get promoted again, then get relegated with loads of dosh and then Moxey and Morgan to depart, then get promoted and with all the dosh, the new bosses can buy quality players that will see us stay in the Prem and compete for Europe!!!
I know, I know but ………………………….. we did before, so why not now?
Come on me babbies – We Can Do This!!!
Doog we’er so poor we don’t have a fireplace or a pot to (Fill in the blanks)
Great summary Thomas and good to see so many posts now accepting that we’re in with a decent chance this season. I’m sure there were very few people thinking we had a chance of promotion before the season started. You know where I stand as I have pre-season bets totalling £1,000 that we would get promoted. Luckily I didn’t bet on auto promotion in spite of even more tempting odds. I’m disappointed though inasmuch as I thought we’d be top two or thereabouts right now (our Dicko-less November dip was responsible), but glad we’re still in the race. I’d hoped for more signings and this may cost us in the final sprint, but no reason why we still can’t get 14 points or more from our final 7 games.
Yo-yo club would suit me fine too. By the time we were relegated from the prem last time, I was heartily sick of being in it anyway.
I am glad I am not alone in my thinking. Hope to see you soon mate.
Hope so too Brompton. But I’ve been trying to get tickets for the Millwall game and I can’t have them unless I buy tickets for the Ipswich game too. The ole finances won’t run to that I’m afraid, so I’m waiting until Ipswich is done and dusted and hope I can still get them then.
Fingers crossed anyway. Hey, I’ll be there, I’d put my shirt on it. 🙂
I have not got my Millwall tickets yet either mate. I need two, so will wait for them to go on general sale and get them then.
There’s no if s about it . Wolves are going up !

Well Thomas, if our enthusiasm can help the boys win games then this blog youv’e created today has it in bucket loads. Its a tough call to make,PROMOTION, but why not we’re in with a chance and a chance is what we have.
So all we can do is dream and hope a good slice of luck comes our way.
Football wise I think we can do it,Automatically would be fantastic but playoffs will do for me.
Realistically, will the players have the belief in them selves and what it takes to deliver us to the promised land.
!WHY NOT! …AS ALWAYS UTW
I just can’t believe Vital Wolves that if we don’t go up Afobe could go to Shite or CPalace…
I just hope the back St boys are good enough to keep him..it would be an absolute travesty..
It can’t be..can it?
Steve.
We’ve been hearing the same Shite about Sako for 3 seasons and he’s still with us, Afobe is on a long term contract which is only 2 Months old. If he’s loyal to Wolves we want him but, if like my now fallen idol Ibriham Keita he’s thinking of money then we don’t want him.
Sky television and their Trillions will have a lot to answer for in the future and mark my words, ordinary people will abandon football. The bathplugs put my Sky subscription up yesterday by £4-50 a month to pay for it and I’m sorry buddy but I won’t stand for that for long. I had to work hard all my life and i’m not going to line the pockets of greedy footballers.
I’m sure Afobe will stay, he’s got a great partnership with Ma Donald and Sako & Dicko are geling with him at treat.
Anyway, this is all immaterial, we’re going up snd the shite are coming down, we’re going up and the shite are coming down.
Happy Days.
🙂
Agree with pretty much all you say Stu but one small point. If people didn’t pay their Sky/BT subs, this problem would be much reduced. When Sky took to the airwaves all those years ago, and started snaffling the best sport from free-to-air, I vowed that they would never see a penny of mine and so it has remained.
When the big boxing title fights were on the Beeb, the fighters were household names and heroes to many. I’d have a job to name more than three or four champs since those days and good as they may be, they’ll never have the worldwide status the likes of Ali, Frazier, Hagler et al achieved. Besides, the big fights now are pay per view so even paying your subs ain’t enough. You can bet that footie will gradually move that way in time.Far too much money is focused at the top and breaking into that ‘so-called’ elite will become more and more difficult as Prem teams snap up the best players from below, cementing the status quo to the detriment of the many.
Now, let me get off this high horse a minute………. 😉
Spot on Wolfstroker….
It’s a long and very boring story (a bit like most of my blogs) but I have a ticket for the Leeds game which I can’t use.
It’s in the Steve Bull, near the half way line, and has the name of the PMDG’er on it.
So it’s a collector’s item as well.
I bought two and Brompton Wolf has the other.
I am offering it to a lucky blogger who can give me a good reason why he/she needs it.
An added bonus is that the lucky winner will get to sit next to the ‘Poloshirtmeister’ for a couple of hours.
It is available for the knock down price of £17.25 (£17.00 for cash) as I think I remember rightly that is the cost of the polo shirt that I am trading with Brompton for the other ticket.
If anyone is interested, please email me at:-
my.studio@btconnect.com
I can post the print out of the ticket to the winner and then they can either send a cheque by return or square up at the bloggers’ meet, at Park View, at the end of the season.
There you are then – The chance to see the lads smash Leeds AND get Brompton Wolf to buy you a drink.
An offer you can’t refuse!
I’ll buy it, if you include my airfare, hotel, meals etc for a few weeks, coz I’m coming over for the Millwall match, so I might as well stay a bit longer!
Air fare, hotel – not a problem.
You’ll have to buy your own meals though.
I can’t afford an American appetite!
Agree StuWolf, Keita has fallen from grace but that is highly likely his agent screwing the game for the quick pennies and forgetting Keita’s career could be on a downward slope if he gets it wrong.
I’d be more disheartened with the agent than Keita after the way he went to the press.
Your’e spot on matey, it is the feckin greedy agent that is turning am n immature head. As I pointed out he has talent by the bucket load what a crying shame. I think we’ve suffered from greedy indiviuals all our lives.
I would love him to nail his flag to the mast. He’d have my vote every time.
🙂
🙂
I see that sandwell town are being linked with Afobe as well as Sako if we don’t get promoted.
I expect Dicko will be next.
I don’t know why Pulis doesn’t just up sticks and move his shower to the Mol.
Then he could put together a decent team and get to play in a decent stadium in front of some decent fans.
Hands off you t***pot!!!
I struggle with (usually wrongly) predicting one fixture let alone the next 7 championship fixtures for several teams…That’s a slippery slope to the asylum!
Unfortunately I can predict the top six of the Championship no more artfully than I can the numbers for the National Lottery draw. My only hope is that come the final whistle of the Millwall game, we have a few more games to look forward to.
Whatever the outcome I’ll be pretty satisfied with the way KJ’s Wolves have evolved and grown and will look forward to next season, being realistic, with a healthy dose of excitement!
I disagree mate. Come the final whistle of the Milwall game I hope we have no other games to look forward to as we will have our automatic promotion confirmed.
I like to be positive.
I love the optimism, wish I could share it. I think that we might be just a few points adrift of a realistic chance of auto at this point. But with 7 left & 21 available it is definitely possible.
If there is a defining moment of the promotion race, this long weekend could well be it. The international break can create odd results so who knows. Maybe your positivity is rubbing off!
Like I said I’ve no clue though.
Afternoon all. If Thomas’s 7 game prediction comes in, that would be just four defeats in our last 28 league games. (I think!) Whatever becomes of this season, Kenny Jackett deserves immense credit for the job he’s done this season, not to mention the bigger picture of creating harmony and affection from a war zone when taking over.
What worries me is the inevitable vultures who will swoop to scavenge at our failed play-off carcass. (should we fail in the first place) They are already circling now…
…To have to rebuild again with the losses of Sako, Afobe and even Dicko (who would surely become disillusioned if Sako departed) would be a cruel headache for Kenny to remedy.
It’s all so precarious.
I’ve written a blog on all this and have sent to Thomas…I’m sure you can humour me then!
Yeah but whatever happens we just have to remember ………… WE AM WOLVES AY WE!!….. and the sun will shine again.
Don’t worry.., If we do end up flogging our front 2 and letting Sako off on a free, then we can look at signing a well know striker from Wigan that’s out of contract in the summer… Leon something or other 🙂
The only one I can think of is, Leon Coaches. Tall, reliable, hard working, always give 100%, don’t let you down and Wolves football in their veins.
They’ll do for me.
🙂
