Yuk, managers are so passé. What do you think we are, some sort of wracked-off League One side?

We’re in the market for a head coach, thank you very much.
But wait a minute, didn’t we have one of those last season? Wasn’t he some random goon called Patrick Weiser? And didn’t his arrival neatly coincide with a fatal nosedive in form?
Maybe I’ve got that wrong (I haven’t).
I suppose talk of restructuring and crowbarring the words Kevin and Thelwell into every other sentence at least shows some intent. But I can’t escape the feeling we’re merely shuffling the deck without removing the two jokers from the pack.
As is customary though, here’s a rundown of the candidates being linked to the next 12-month rolling contract on offer.
Owen Coyle
Last seen: Relegating Bolton from the Premier League and subsequently settling them into life as a midtable Championship side.
Do we want him? According to the E&S Polls, absolutely. He’s the overwhelming fans choice taking just under half the total votes.
Why would we want him? Did stellar work up in Scotland (which as we all know doesn’t count) before taking Burnley to the Premier League. After absconding to the Reebok did well initially. Has a reputation for attractive, attacking football and would be considered a coup given our League One status.
Does he want the job? This statement concerns me: “I’ve been very fortunate with who I’ve worked with at Burnley and Bolton. That’s a big part of it for me. I need to know I’m working with the right people. We’ve seen in football lately that it’s not been the case with one or two managers.” Given recent events, he might take some convincing.
Best odds: 25/1
Kenny Jackett
Last seen: Managing easily the most annoying team of last season in Millwall. Always crap but always getting just enough points to remain tantalisingly out of reach. Not that I’m bitter.
Do we want him? Isn’t polling well, but there are a loyal minority who think his experience would come in handy.
Why do we want him? Knows the lower leagues having taken Swansea up from League Two and Millwall from League One. Seems a likeable chap and his surname is ripe for a plethora of unimaginative puns.
Does he want the job? Had his fill at Millwall and wants a fresh challenge. Something tells me he’d crawl on his hands and knees for the job. He just looks the type.
Best odds: 5/2
Darren Ferguson
Last seen: Suffering heartache at Selhurst Park as Palace’s stuffy last minute goal relegated the Posh.
Do we want him: A more popular choice than Jackett but less so than Coyle. My gut instinct is that his arrival would be greeted with cautious optimism.
Why do we want him? Knows League One well having taken Peterborough up twice. Plays attacking football. Has a Wolves connection and handsome managerial genetics. Tasty loan deals from Old Trafford might be drying up though.
Does he want the job? You would think he might be interested, but his chairman is having none of it stating to Wolves fans on Twitter last night: “I was shocked your chairman didn’t come in for him after he witnessed DF’s young team win 3-0 at your place. Regardless of interest, he wont be going to Wolves one way or another. All the best in recruitment process though.” That’s us told.
Best odds: 3/1
Steve Davis
Last seen: Getting Crewe promoted from League Two, consolidating them in League One and winning the JPT.
Do we want him? Has an ever-growing fanbase with more people realising everyday he’s not the snooker player, but an upcoming manager with a decent CV.
Why do we want him? Perhaps more than any of the above candidates, would fit the role of head coach. Has served an apprenticeship of sorts at Crewe and with greater resources might be able to achieve greater things. If Steve Morgan does want to pursue a policy of blooding lots of academy graduates, Davis could be the ideal man.
Does he want the job? Almost certainly. This could be his big break (sorry, I’ll get my Jackett).
Best odds: 8/1
Dean Smith
Last seen: Falling just shy of the play-offs with Walsall after a superb second half to the season in which the Saddlers lost just 2 of their 23 matches..
Do we want him? His name has been banded about a fair bit, but he didn’t make it onto the E&S’s latest 8 man shortlist, which makes him a red-hot favourite.
Why do we want him? He’s done alright at Walsall and they’re totally crap.
Does he want the job? Well, we’re also totally crap but we offer the possibility of one day not being totally crap. Ironically, if he was to turn us down, it would be the most damning indictment yet of how totally crap we’ve become.
Current odds: 33/1
Best of the rest
Karl Robinson – Because he used to play for Wolves. What do you mean it’s not that Karl Robinson? What do you mean it’s Karl with a ‘K’? He looks exactly like him. Whatever, he’s getting good reviews from that pantheon of football – Stadium MK. Best odds: 25/1
Michael Appleton – Because everyone deserves a fourth chance, inside 12 months. No thanks. Could also be another double-agent job ala Big Rog. Best odds: 33/1
Paul Ince – Because he’s angry most of the time and most of our players need a jolly good boot up the arse. But would he drop down a division having only just got hit feet under the table at Blackpool? Best odds: 50/1
Martin O’Neill – Because you wish. Best odds: 33/1
Terry Connor – Because this isn’t a job for an ameteur and his winning record stands up against the best (people to have never managed Wolvehampton Wanderers). Best odds: 100/1
All odds found via OddsChecker.

id like moxeys head……. nothing will change until we see changes at the top
Yuk, all that greese.
Martin O’Neil for me but Morgan won’t go and get him and he won’t come anyway so im not fussed there all a much of muchness no one really stands out and that’s unfortunately what we are reduced too.
Okay, I’ll put a tenner on Terry Connor… 🙂
Some bookies are only prepared to offer 50/1 on TC. Now that would be a bold appointment.
Thomas, i’m interested who would be your choice. or choice’s given the chance.?
Of the people I think we can get and based on laying foundations for a long term project, Ferguson closely followed by Davis.
As many others have stated though I think problems higher up the food chain must be resolved for us to succeed. As yet, not enough has been done.
Ferguson is my number one too. His network would benefit us in search for new players. Thelwell has done a good job for wolves in the area of development, but recruitment? Im not impressed with the board’s decision.
How about Alex mcleish or Roy keane
McLeish??? HELL no!
Mcleish doesn’t seem like the right fit to me, particularly if we’re thinking ‘long term vision’. He’d love the job though.
As for Keane, given the dogs abuse Saunders got for spouting drivel, I’m sure Roy’s ‘cut the shit’ approach would get the thumbs up. But he failed epically at Ipswich, when he was really given every chance to succeed.
Arrr but Roy commuted he didn’t move to East Anglia were as Wolves is just down the road for him, no the only problem I could see is would he want the gig he has a cushy number with ITV plus I can see him decking Moxey err thats it forget O’Neil Keane for me.
interesting reading in Birmingham mail by steve froggatt…hes got it spot on ! it matters not a jot who we have as manager all the time moxey holds the money pot
Bang on oldgoldy .. as long as Moxey holds the purse strings you can all dream of having a bullish, no-nonsense, getting his own way, influential with the board manager. Wakey wakey.. we’ve hoped for one of these since McCarthy left. DID WE GET A BOSS WITH THIS DNA? Naah .. only the cheap, meek, yes Jez, that’s what you should expect .. I wait with my usual expectation but I know I shall be hugely disappointed..
I’d go for Steve Davis. or Parkinson from Bradford if they dont win play off finals. Whoever gets the job however will be stuffed if Moxey is still in place. This is on his watch he should resign but he wont. Morgan should sack him, but is too spineless, otherwise like Old Goldy I think we are heading no where fast.
Only good news in this whole sorry mess is that the wage bill wil have to be cut fairly dramatically, the only shame is those that dont care or are just not good enough wont leave. Sack them for gross misconduct, pay them off if we have too, but lets find some better players with the skill and enthusiasm to make our team promotion contenders, I cant face another 80’s style fall from grace.
Di matteo is my number one. Sign him Moxey. Do it now or RESIGN!!!
What do you mean it’s already happening, the fall from grace that is. We are in the eye of the storm as long as MoxeyMoron is pulling the strings. Disheartening all this!
Well put together as always Thomas, I just read this and thought “If only”
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright promises to consider the views of the club’s supporters when it comes to appointing the successor to David Moyes.
“I will be looking to the fans to get that guidance,”
Nice thing to say but if Everton fans are anything like our lot it probably won’t help him much.
In any case, Morgan & Moxey do listen to the fans – they sacked Mick, Stale and Dean and decided not to appoint Mr Bruce. I think I wish they’d listen less…
Amen to that!
Sometimes we really do need to be careful what we wish for…look where it’s got us!
I’m sitting on my hands. Do what you have to do Wolves, just do it right this time as you’re running out of leagues to drop down into.
Oh and one other thing….MOXEY OUTY!!!!
Hang on Bruce guilty as charged. But we did not want TC, SS nor DS. If we had been offered TC as an option prior to MM being sacked (which of course could never gave happened) then we would have all said leave well alone, better the devil you know and all that. Fans wanting those three incumbents to be given the boot were completely tught cos they should never have got the job of managing WOLVES in the first place.
Fair enough on TC – everyone knew that it would end in tears. But I didn’t want Mick sacked and believe absolutely that we wouldn’t be in League 1 now if we’d stuck with him. Fans played their part in his sacking. And, personally, I’d have stuck with Solbakken in January and given him the transfer window to strengthen the squad. Again, had we done so, I don’t think we’d have been relegated. I can’t prove that, of course, but his win ratio was better than that of DS. Fans lost patience with Stale before Steve Morgan did.
Beyond that my point is that there’s a wide range of views amongst fans as to who the next Manager (or Head Coach) should be. How would consulting us help? The problem these days is that people would seemingly rather be proved ‘right’ and be able to say ‘I told you so’ than get behind whoever’s in charge and just support him. This was the case throughout Mick’s time when those who wanted Ince appointed instead couldn’t wait to jump onto message boards following a defeat with all their ‘Muppet Mick’ or ‘Thick Mick’ nonsense. I’m just not sure whether listening to fans would be that productive. I’d rather have someone with a good knowledge of the game at Board level providing input.
McCarthy didn’t exactly endear himself to fans with his stubbornness and was unwilling to listen. McCarthy was a one trick pony yes your right probably he would not have got us relegated to League One but he did get us relegated from the Premier League his putting a shift in stance picking players that were completely out of there depth, his transfer buys the lad from Hull for instance. That’s was Morgan would not give him a decent transfer budget that 3rd Premier season because he lost faith in him, Morgan’s mistake and the fans could see it was not getting rid of him the minute after the Blackburn game because he had taken us as far as he could in fact a lot of fans me included called for him to go the season we were promoted the writing was on the wall even then you only have to ask Sunderland fans of which I work with MCarthy not Premier League manager. Also Morgan thought McCarthy would carry on making a silk purse out of a pigs ear season after season it doesn’t work like that in Premier you have to add quality to your squad each transfer window, we didn’t.
This constant sentimental twaddle for McCarthy must end. Check out how many games that Wolves had won under him that season. Remind yourself of the thrashing Albion gave us and then play this little game for fun. Print off the remaining fixtures of our final season in the Prem’ and then be honest with yourself and see which ones we would/could have won, drawn and lost. If you are true to yourself you will see we were dead in the water. McCarthy had done all he could do with the limited ability and talent available to him and consequently his time indeed, had come.
I’m not being sentimental. Nor do I necessarily believe that we’d have escaped relegation from the PL had Mick kept his job. It was looking bleak. But whilst we were totally outplayed by Albion in the first 45 and were lucky to go in at half-time 1-1, the second half was closer than the scoreline suggests. At 1-2 we came very close to scoring only then to go 1-3 down. At that point what was Mick meant to do? Shut up shop and protect our goal difference? We were at home – we had to go for it and we got picked off a couple more times on the break. So yes, it looked like a thrashing in the end and, no, I didn’t enjoy it but still, I believe, Morgan was wrong to react as he did. Had we stuck with Mick we’d at least have been challenging for promotion this season rather than being relegated. I’d have thought that that would be beyond question – and it would have done me. That said, we are where we are and, of course, we need to move forward. But still I wouldn’t trust fans to make a good appointment any more than I would Steve Morgan. I repeat, I just want someone who knows the game inside out at board level.
Timmiswolf – appreciate your knowledgeable response and would guess that you were at the fated Albion game, as was I. I agree with you that Morgan’s timing was dire regarding the dismissal of McCarthy, as has been many of his subsequent decisions. Again, I can only agree with you that the fans clamour for known and proven failures to take over WWFC is disconcerting, but the level that we have floundered to is unlikely to attract some of the bigger, more knowledgeable names who could hopefully resurrect this great club. I genuinely worry for our long term future as one more bad appointment will see Wolves sink towards football oblivion, from which the long march back to the premiership is unlikely to happen in my lifetime.
Well said totally agree
Smart and amusing analysis Thomas. Darragh MacAnthony has ruled him out but Ferguson has stayed quiet so i dont think that means much. As we know in football you cant force people to stay. Then again would he want the job on the terms stated today ? Perhaps Davis is more the type they are looking for. As for Jackett and tie comes across as bland and boring.
MOXEY MUST GO – HE IS THE NUMBER ONE PROBLEM … followed shortly by up to 11 useless overpaid big headed wankers with numbers on their back
Steve Davis I think is perfect, lets get a wolves fan managing the club. We have to be realistic on who would come some wolves fans still think we can get oneil – we are league one.
Sack Moxey please, every wolves fan wants this please listen to us, we have got to get this right this time Morgan.
I love this Thomas!
Are they your odds you’re quoting?
Of all of them I think I would like to see Steve Davis.
From his photograph he looks like a cheeky chappy.
Owen Coyle and (I’ll get my) Jackett are tarnished goods, Ferguson junior won’t come, Dean Smith is a bit too close to home and, as for the rest, we’ve no chance.
It’s Davis for me; young, up and coming, something to prove (a bit like my good self) and could be a winner.
Well if we get it wrong this time it will be Kevin Thelwell’s fault – So that let’s the 2M’s nicely off the hook doesn’t it. I still fancy Clive’s swerve ball choice of Phil Neville.
I think Phil Neville will go with moyles to we all know where..
after all the nonsense of the last year or so and the awfulness of the football played by wolves over the last 3 seasons we are lucky that their are a number of managers with the right credentials who might want to take on the job of the next wolves coach.
phil parkinson coached under alan curbishley and has done a terrific job at bradford, steve davies learnt his trade with dario gradi and is excellent with young players, owen coyles teams always play good football but i’m not sure that he would drop into the 3rd division and kenny jackett who has done well at all his clubs and has the best win record of all the candidates.
i would be happy to see any of these 4 managing he club i’ve supported for 60 years.
We are in a sorry state.
Very funny article Thomas and we are a bit of a joke.
I wonder what manager/Headcoach, will want to work under Moxey/Thelwell?
That is going to determine the next manager.
It has little to do with his footballing credentials.
I was sickened but not surprised to read the latest utterance of absolute bollocks from Mr Moxey today. Meaningless drivel supposed to convince us they know what they are doing and have a grand plan. Shows complete and utter contempt for us. He must think we have all just crawled from under a rock.
My heart sank, nothing is going change whatsoever. This Kevin guy might be great but Moxey virtually said he will just be putting a list together for the board . Means he can have the job of phoning around to see who will still speak to us.
The two Ms have cleverly got us all talking about who we want next, instead of focussing on the real problems and villains.
I see absolutley no signs that Morgan has attached any blame to Moxeys running of the club at all. Until that happens all our thoughts and talk are meaningless.
Unless I get totally enraged again which is possible, I plan to keep quiet until the next ludicrous statement or decision.
Until then:
Mr Morgan, you and you alone are responsible for the complete and absolute crap situation we are in. The show we have been subjected to is all yours.
I understand fiscal responsibility as well as anyone, but allowing a man who has absolutely no football knowledge or understanding to run your club into the ground is the problem. Every decision he makes about players coming and going is fiscally based and not in anyway realted to their capability or contribution. He has applied the same measure to Managers. He must be held accountable and be fired or have all footballing decisions taken out of his haands.
Trying to run the club on a year to year balance the books basis is a sefl fulfilling prophecy, as he gets the decisons wrong and fail our business and income is reduced and we are in a death spiral. You are supposed to be running a Football Club, not a dying corner shop.
Two great opportunities to consolidate have been pissed away by Moxey.
He does not understand the difference between a Loss and an Investment for that reason alone he must be fired.
How much have all these wrong decisions cost you so far, penny wise and pound foolish springs to mind.
The only players I care about now are the youngsters, one way or another you have ruined the rest or should never have bought them. How much is that little lot going to cost you. Ask Jez?
We all know you guys are not sincere or smart enough to get a good guy in and not many would even consider it.
For Gods sake stop all the games and get shut of Moxey and please stop insulting our intelligence.
Get in your car and crawl up Dave Jones garden and give him what he want to come back and finish the job he started.
But before you do axe Moxey.
Great article Thomas.
Which two great opportunities to consolidate have been pissed away by Moxey ?
There are many things to say here and the first is, Moxey tried to persuade Morgan not to get rid of Mick. Moxey didn’t sign all those crap players and I mean alot of the ones who never got a look in. Moxey didn’t appoint Stale, Moxey didn’t sack Stale, I could go on.
I agree that Moxey should have little to do with football matters as possible and the rest is obvious, some sort of setup that is across between WBA and Swansea, keeping the academy status and going with youth. If you think about everyone is a selling club, lets get churnning out some youngsters and enjoy them.
A good into-perspective set of points FW. I’m afraid you’re pissing in the wind with the emotively blinkered posters.
Is it purely coincidence then that Stoke started heading in the right direction the minute that fat sack of shit left ?
Very well posted NY Wolf.
Agree Wholeheartedly NY Wolf. The 2 most powerful people at our club know Sweet FA about football … the clue is in the name WW Football Club
Now that’s a bostin piece. If Morgan needs an advisor you are that person! It dies begger belief that an accounts clerk is running WOLVES! Madness!
Thellwell and Morgan and perhaps Moxey !! With only a coach underneath them . It really is getting a joke . Is that the total of our football knowledge ? We need a panel of players or men who have Wolves close to their hearts and with football knowledge . I am just waiting for Morgan to up sticks and return back to his main day job . Leaving us to be run by a load of cheapskate employees and division 3 or 4 football .
I keep expecting to read that Moxey has cleared his desk, packed his pies, and factorf.
What the Donald is going on up there ?
You can have a new manager every 3 months but until the so-called senior- management’s failings and shortcomings are acknowledged and addressed, any discussion about new team manager, or coach or whatever, is TOTALLY premature.
Get rid of the Porkie.
MOXEY = TEFLON!
I’d go for Coyle if someone could stop him from cupping his hands around his mouth when shouting instructions from the bench. Anyway, the trend now seems to be to put a hand over your mouth whilst on the bench in order to prevent lip reading. Unlike the supporters who spend most of the games with our hands over our eyes.
Coyle’s a full-kit manager too and that immediately puts me off:
http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Owen+Coyle+Bolton+Wanderers+v+Wigan+Athletic+JcnJAfgW28Zl.jpg
…you were warned.
Why dont they play his interviews at the right speed (or is he just talking very fast).
see what you mean, not good
Nothing wrong wearing the old gold and black in my book, but he must wear tracky bottoms, especially with his legs.
He’s my choice anyway.UTW..
The more research i do the more Steve Davis looks the interesting candidate.
I think he’s staying put !
My last comment for a while.
Sad thing it is all so transparent and predictable, we all know where it will end.
I can save the time and write the announcement now.
“The board would like to assure the fans that we were dilligent in our search for a new Head Coach, many top names were considered (some of whom we actually tried to contact!). We felt it essential to cast the net wide and leave no stone unturned. We felt many well known candidates did not share our vision and strategy about how to move this great club forward to its next challenge. (Means they actually wanted to buy some players and didnt think they wanted to lead us in the Conference). One thing I must ask fans to understand is that just because we wanted some to come here, doesnt mean they were prepared to, (means they wanted paying). Having gone through a well considered short list (Kevin Thelwell, Kenn Dodd, jamie Oharas wife danielle, and Mrs Jez Moxey) we have decided to give the job to someone who knows the club and the players already, and can get down to saving money right away. This person impressed the board last year with his player development and motivation and is ready to take on the position in addition to continuing his other duties…………….. Mr Kevin Thelwell.
OK the name might be wrong but the drivel will be right.
Steve Davies for me, why? It’s obvious by the statement issued by the board that the younger players are going to play an important role in next season fixtures. Steve Davies has got a very good reputation in bringing the young guns through, working without large sums of money and sets out teams to play football. It will be a learning curve for him and the players but if we install a decent director of football with the passing philosophy it good be the start of something interesting.
Besides that he was bloody good at snooker.
I would love phil Neville as player manager .. It would almost be worth going down for ! Realistically tho my shout would be Darren fergi . Yo yo yam yams ay we .
Saunders signed his own death warrant on the pitch after the Brighton game when he vowed to do whatever was necessary to sort out our under-performing bunch of wankers. No chance, that would have meant getting rid of them and paying for half decent ones.
Much cheaper just sack the twat. Then come up with some cock and bull story about appointing a head coach, NOT a manager, under the auspices of the Academy Director. Oops sorry, i mean Director of Football.
Of course the new manager himself will have the final say on who we sign. It’s just that Moxey, oops sorry the Director of Football, will decide who he can choose from.
No manager worth his salt would want the job under these circumstances, and considering our appalling recruitment record of late.
Meanwhile Moxey sits back and smirks at his clever plan. Nice cheap option as usual, big fat bonuses guaranteed. And when it all goes tits up, as it surely will, he can say, ‘Not my fault. That’s why we appointed Kevin.’
The problem’s not the manager so it will make no difference who our next one is.
spot on martin..i really cant get exited any more cos it will keep happening time and time again. how the bloody nora are we going to attract anyone is what concerns me . from the outside , the club looks like something off cbbc ! my money is on a manager like Warnock for that reason alone
Having said all that, cracking write up Thomas. Loved the “i’ll get me Jackett”.
Just looked at Steve Davis details on Wiki, he’s got his team in training every Monday and Wednesday through the close season with big fines if they don’t turn up at least 50% of the required days (only 2 weeks off) Army style boot camp when pre season starts. I would want him as manager just to put the big earners through the mill.
Steve Davies , I looked him up too, I did not know who he was, he looks like he knows what he wants, and he gets his team playing the right way, This may be the choice, an up and coming manager or even the likes of Ferguson .
Another option is a more seasoned manager who may have something to prove Keane, Coyle or Ince .
Or the mediocre managers such as Odriscal and Jackett who I believe may do a job initially in getting us back in the championship, but would be too short sighted if we want to develop a footballing culture , rather than the previously stated hoof football we have been served for too long.
I wonder what criteria is being used by Thelwell in getting the right manager, sorry head coach, I hope it is an attacking style of football, no nonsense approach with regard to players, ability to develop young players, with a long term development plan, not who they can get on the cheap,
I dont think Daddy would let Darren even consider the job. Apparently he was the one who warned Moyes of us years ago when he was at Preston, told him to wait for something better.
Much as I liked Ince and Keane (to some extent) as player, I really think both remain totally unproved in fact failures in management.
Trust me this appointment is going to be all about who will come and for how little rather than potential.
Who the hell is Kevin Thelwell anyway and why have we entrusted our future to him?
He’s cheap Mick.
Dont worry Mick he is not really being entrusted with anything. His job is simply to find a couple of guys who will talk to us, have no real input and then take the blame when the deadly duo make another balls up.
Kevin Thellwell is just going to be another muppet he has been given the job so Moxey wont get blamed for us going down to division 2.Morgan get this next manager right or YOUR FIRED!
Steve Davis looks more promising the more I hear about him but even Alex Ferguson would struggle to make anything out of the dross we have as players and with the “support” of the clueless owner and tight arse Moxey.
Can someone tell me what the difference is between a manager and a head coach ? I don’t know what this means
Ask Jez, better still if someone knows tell Jez.
Unless Moxey goes it’s a futile debate. It’ll be the same old storey come next January, I can see the head lines now ” Wolves seek ANOTHER manager” Head coach !!
A manager manages the team, a head coach has to drive the bus on away day fixtures as well as manage the team. So a lot more responsibility all round….
yeah..a head coach is spelt differently and it defo. means they will have to wear full kit at all times
You couldn’t make this stuff up! I would really like to know who it is that keeps telling Morgan to come up with this b……t.
If they don’t get it right the 4th time then it shows that the owner & the CEO don’t give a monkeys for this club.
I want them to appoint Owen Coyle, any other choice & I would be both worried & doubting if this club will ever pull itself around from the debacle Morgan started when he built the white elephant instead of investing to keep us in the Prem.
All of the other candidates are huge gambles, only Coyle offers real top flight experience. Pleased he’s the majority of the fans choice, just hope Kevin Thelwell can persuade him to turn up to an interview.
The day they appointed TC as biss was the day they showed that Wolves FC was irrelevavt but dosh in back pocket (scouse eh eh in mind as I write) was the motivation and nowt has changed since!
Coyle – shit, is a prick and shit football
Jackett – done well at this level, not great football so no as well for me
Ferguson – involved in 3 championship relegations? good football but no thanks…
Davis – attractive football, worked under DoF (Gradi too) used young players well… good momentum too. He’s the favourite for me..
Robinson – attractive football, but blunt attacking wise and gone backwards this season. I’d still like him as a fresh start would be good for him
Where do you get your opinion of Coyle from? The Davies option is just another Saunders he will not have the experience to sort this club out, Coyle is the only one on the list who could do that job in my opinion!
The only guarantee with Wolves & the current owner is that it’ll all end in tears! The selection process we’re having now seems like deja vu from the replacing Mick debacle. Any club that knows what its about i.e. Albion, Man Utd would already have had the best man lined up, making this beauty parade that we’re having at the moment redundant.
I shudder to think who w’ell get, it makes me spit to think what a bloody mess this club is in. It reduces optimists to manic bi-polar depressives!
I don’t really know much about Steve Davis so have reading through articles in the Staffordshire press; it appears he has regularly laid down the law to his players. There are some encouraging quotes which make his style of management quite appealing. Davis only wants winners and he has warned anyone not showing that trait that they will fall off the bandwagon
• “They know where I want to go and where the supporters want to go. They’ve got to come with us and not get left behind”
• “The young ones have to show they are good enough to keep and get more opportunities. The experienced ones have to show they can perform well consistently, playing at their best every week and not letting their standards drop”
• “I started going out there in my kit getting around them and among them. They were too laid back. If they think they can get away with that approach it’s up to me to stamp it out and I will do, I’ll nail that”
• “Our work here is not just about developing players’ performances, it’s about developing their minds as well and they’ve got to be better prepared for what’s coming”
If these words could be translated into action at the Molineux, then surely we could progress.
The current dressing room has got rid of 4 managers in 15 months. Hopefully whoever it is, is backed by morgan, to rid the cancer in the changing room, even if it means losing money or selling them for less money. Like jamie o hara. Shocking player. As long as we have him in the squad we will keep going backwards. Get rid asap
I suspect the reason they are telling us it will a head coach rather than a manager,is down to money. In one stroke they have discounted half of the more expensive candidates .Warnock and Coyne are not going to come to a third division club with a job description as a coach not a manger. The clue is they say they are following the Albion example.Clarke was a coach and had never previously been considered a manager. So don’t expect an appointment of anybody who is currently a manager. They will promote somone somewhere who is currently undertaking coaching duties, perhaps Alex Rae.They are doing that, not because it is the right thing to do,but because it is the cheap option. They did the same when they appointed Thelwell.Told us they were looking everywhere for a director of football, but promoted someone internally, someone cheap and cheerful. I think we all realise it looks like Steve Morgan has only limited ambition for our football club.According to Steve Froggatt today, all the money has run out, so the future looks very grim.
Moxey didnt want Saunders but Morgan overode him. That didnt work so now Morgan is eating humble pie and letting Moxey and Thelwall run the show. But Moxey has made many mistakes before and like the vast majority on here i think he should be gone his only talent is for screwing money out of people.
After a few weeks of name dropping for the press and the odd interview my money is Jody Cradfock. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. Just a cheap thing. He probably deserves a chance for putting up with watching a whole bunch of players who care a lot less file past him in the tunnel every Saturday.
The 2 ms pair of idiots destroying the wolves
Another unbelievable statement coming out of Molineux today. ‘We want to appoint a head coach and adapt a more continental style of play’. Solbakken project mkII in other words. It would be funny if it wasn’t so ridiculous.
I was thinking long and hard about writing some wonderfully insightful and prophetic words of wisdom, but then I had a beer and thought, “Bollocks”
I will be in Penn next weekend, and I will not make my usual visit to the club shop to stock up on all things Wanderers.
We are reduced to praying again, hoping for some crumbs of comfort from management, (that word being used very loosely.)
When are we collectively going to get it through our heads that it don’t matter what we want, hope or pray for, it aint gonna happen.
They are not interested in the football club, only the cash cow.
End of.
They don’t give a flying fuck to our opinions or wishes, just their own bloated bank accounts.
Everything that comes out of their poisoned gobs is a lie, pure and simple.
A badly timed visit C.fromH.
You’ve missed all the entertainment at the Mol.
Well the fact we are now a third division club will obviously restrict the available candidates.Looking at people lilke Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, he is a great example of a manager who succeeds in his comfort zone. Take him away from that and he struggles. There are many managers like this including Dean Saunders at Doncaster. Perhaps Darren ferguson and Steve Davis would also struggle in a different environment. Will be a very difficult choice. Certainly not someone who has experienced relegation as a manager, so narrows the field even further. Would guess the appointment will be a surprise to us all while we are all busy speculating on the ‘usual suspects’.
Brian Flynn, obvious really.
*Sigh*
Supporting Wolves is like suffering from a continuous bout de ja vu or being on a perpetual merry-go-round 🙁
I can’t really get excited about who will be our next manager, sorry, Head Coach. Wolves have finally managed to grind me down slowly, a bit like Chinese water torture, over the last few years.
I have no idea what the clowns at the circus will do or who will fit the bill for them.
I would like to see Roberto Di Matteo come in, he has the experience at this level and has shown, albeit with quality players, that he is a decent manager. However, I suspect we are not ‘sexy’ enough for him, after being at Chelsea it would be like jumping into bed with Margaret Thatcher as opposed to Beyonce. Another plus side is he is not just a footballer/manager. The lad has brains as well !
“Roberto has an academic background, having built on a business studies degree gained in his native Switzerland by taking an MBA course at London’s European School of Economics.”
So he is the perfect candidate for head coach, and just think of the glory when he takes the Wolves to play and be Chelsea to win the Prem and do the double over WBA……..
Ok, apologies for that last bit, I was carried away a little.
So in response to Thomas’s blog – No thanks I don’t want any of that shite ! 🙂
So, bring me the head (coach) of Roberto Di Mattoe ….or else !
I like your thinking but with the current reshuffle going on he will probably be in line for a premier league job.
Yes and Beyonce would not have closed down Sankeys, British Steel and Bilstom Motor Factors!
We should be prepared to be underwhelmed.
I’d like Coyle, but not a prayer of him coming.
Why is Moxey still at the club?……….an absolute joke if he survives this fiasco irrespective of how culpable he is. (And I think hes very culpable. The poisonous culture at the club stems from him).
Morgan surely has to realise that someone at the top has to take the rap for this. Hardly going to sack himself so the obvious and correct choice is Moxey.
In my eyes the club wont regain any credibility whilst he remains at the club…..and the omens don’t look good.
As I posted in the other thread. The thing that bothers me most about this “head coach” role over the traditional managers role is perhaps a dilution of power from the manager.
i’m worried that any new manager will not be the final word on anything financial. His role is purely a coaching/tactical one. Not a managerial role in terms of negotiating any transfers etc.
I’m just suspicious this is a way to take power away from any potential manager and keep it in the hands of the two M’s and Thelwell.
On the other hand perhaps it’s just a renaming in an attempt to refocus on the football. Shall we try and believe that? It would be much nicer to believe that…
To be honest though… the first option reeks of Moxey and Morgan…
its just a smokescreen morph to cover the clowns inadequacies . albion fans must be wetting themselves- absolutely priceless
Manager – Head Coach? I think in terms of the Wolves its about the same difference as shit and shite.
I really should think of something more constructive so say but I can’t be arsed.
It is blindingly obvious Moxey is still controlling the purse strings,,, his plans are one year. Certain Directors at the club admitted privately there was no business plan in place for relegation…so we are continuing with a one year plan cutting our costs to meet the needs of the next 12 months and hoping above hope we get a genius manager who saves everyone’s bacon..
Surely it is clear this CEO is fucking incompetent and should be left to run a bath let alone an institution like Wolves…the fans must put pressure to get this idiot out..my blood boils just thinking of him at the club still after the years and years of bad management..
sack the fat man for a brighter future
I understand that Bill Kenright is seeking advice from Morgan in his search for a new manager at Everton
I was listening to WM on the way to work and apparently they want to get a contiental type manager in. Do they evet f****n learn. This is partly why we got relegated from this stupid plan. So all these managers on here will not be in the running! Get Steve Davis in and get real please you two jokes.
I’ve just realised why the job description has been changed to head coach.
When it all goes tits up again in a few months time the press won’t be able to say:
“That’s the fifth manager Wolves have sacked in less than two years”.
or weve only hired a coach to get to the away games….its all more spin doogy to make us think we are on the up. remember all the talk about a director of football months ago so we all took our eyes off what was happening
Give it a season and a half or so..some may say -but hope not, thats the 5th Head coach Wolves have sacked in less than two years. ouch
I think wilkins as he could bring in top youngster to the club aswell as maybe bringing in a few experienced heads. However i think the question is not the manager but the players we are going to let go and bring in see Wilkins and coyle have experience in blooding youngsters however if we get other managers such as jackett and warnock they are living on the premise there is going to be investment…i for one think that who ever comes in should create the attitude that we are not going to lose one game we are in it to become champions plus there are going to be a maximum of 12 hard games all season so the manager should expect wins and comfortable wins. Plus please can the manager have some tactical ideas saunders was and is a 5 a side manager i was dizzy watching ping pong at the molineux 🙂
Also in terms of moxey he wasnt such a bad thing under hayward or at the start of morgans tenure but it is pitiful that he always succumbs to everyone. Plus life has just become to easy for him at fortress molineux BC. If i was morgan I would give him a quarter iof his salary. At the same time us wolves fans are footballing people who want the best for the club and area could we please not have our say on the club in terms of development, prices, stadia atmosphere etc etc wolves have lost what wolves were known for there fans….look at dortmund i know it one in a million but still.
Sorry but “not bad under Haywood”. Do you remember how ptiful we were the year we were promoted? Who do you think put the ONE year business plan together to said we couldn’t afford to strengthen our team? The fat man if course… He is and has been consistent in one thing ,,,having no feel for anything at the club….he is a truly damaging negative influence at he club that can not look further than one years balance sheet….Christ I can’t believe wolves fans can’t see it……
Sack the at man for a brighter future
Whatever title Moxey has given himself the fact remains that he is no more than an accountant. When will Morgan realise that accountants do not, as a general rule, get salaries of £1 million + a year ? Morgan could employ a decent one for a tenth of that and the rest of the money could be spent on a salary for a Director of Football who knows something about the business in which WWFC is supposed to be involved.
Also blooding youngsters is as risky as taking the team we did to the prem some will pay off some wont. the real fault of our demise is the playing staff are too comfortable no player deserves a 5 yr contract!!!! end off unless your messi. plus i always said mccarthey should not have been sacked b4 and after however looking back no the turnover of players at the molineux was shocking during the prem years also how many of the playing staff now would you play in your championship team anyways regardless of recent form?
The good thing about blooding the youngsters is a few of them have league 1 experience. Danny Batth was heavily involved in Sheffield Wednesdays promotion last season, Cassidy was top goal scorer in league 1 before he came back to Wolves, David Davis was down there with Shrewsbury, Ismail was at MK Dons and theres probably more. If we can keep Sigardarsson and Hennesey we would have a strong spine of a team.
Who knows what really goes on, but I was interested to read that Coyle is supposedly interested in the job as is Warnock.
Not sure if this interest was before they knew it was to be Coacj driver or not.
Set me to think how irritating I find Moxeys very arrogant and pedantic statements. We are going to take all the time we need to make this selection……………… and this is how we will do it. This “We will do it our way, because our way is the only right way” attitude really stinks of arrogance and lack of any flexibility or pre planning. We have seen it time and time before regarding players and frankly the only way Jez knows how to tackle anyhting. He is a plodder and always gets there too late with no sense of urgency. I will do it my own sweet way in my own sweet time.
Sure I want them to get it right, but for Christs sake, looking for a Manager (Coach) cannot have come as a complete surprise to them, this is the 5th time in what 2 years. How the hell can they not have a pretty good idea of who is out there and what they need. They should in fact have the best database out there. OK the last one was a rushed kneejerk choice by the owner but prior too that they supposedly scoured Europe and spoke to numerous guys before getting it wrong.
OK if Saunders had kept them up it would be different but they had weeks where the writing was on the wall. Did they not do any contingencey thinking. For example why didnt they announce right away they were looking for a Coach this time. Are they saying they hadnt thought about this until Thursday.
Dont get me wrong it is a vital selection and if it helps get it right sure take some time, but surely you saw this coming and we dont need to go right back to the beginning.
We heard before people saying they were left hanging. true or not Warnock is already saying he has made contact but has not heard back. I dodnt want the guy but just a courtesy call would be polite.
The more I see the way our great club is run the more despondent I get.
Morgan has said he will go if we want him to, if they get this one wrong lets get a poll going.
In my working life I have seen people make wrong decisions but with best intentions, the one thing that is unforgivable is wrong decisions for completely the wrong reasons.
Mr Morgan please at least axe Moxey.
Can’t agree more the fat man is a cancer at the club and has been for years.
Sack the fat man for a brighter untrue
Own Coyle – well, my boss is a season ticket holder at Bolton who has stopped taking the piss out of my team since they missed the play offs.
He was as scathing about Coyle as I was about mad mick. When plan A was going wrong, Coyle couldn`t see it, or pretended not to, and had no plan B. Played the same players, ie his favourites every week whether they were doing it on the pitch and for the club or not – now who does that remind you of !! Someone over in East Anglia I believe.
There is a circuit circus of managers who do the rounds, lift a club temporarily then lose the plot, MM, Coyle, Warnock, Hughes, Mcleish, they get sacked and resurface somewhere when a club is in dire straights. Thats not the route surely, our predicament is even more extreme than that scenario.
If the next manger/chief coach/whipping boy fails then the board can blame Threlwell for recommending the candidate for the board decision. For me Ferguson sits between the managers on the merry go round, and the `novices` at say Crewe and Bradford. His own chairman said he was surprised wolves didn`t go for him earlier last season, particularly after the Posh won 3-0 at the Mol.
When can clubs start buying or in wolves case, selling players, is there a date from which this can happen. Can someone help on this one please. Cheers chaps.
Wolves can’t start selling any of their players until the millionaires come back from their well deserved holidays in the Caribbean, Seychelles or similar. Oh and then they’ve got to find someone daft enough to buy them. Wouldn’t like to put a date on it, Mark.
id rather see the lot dropped into a well
Has Sid who used to drive the the teams charabang (coach) retired yet. Maybe the new head coach could fill in on his days off. I agree with a lot of people on here until Mr Moxey goes nothing will change. If the club are intending on promoting our younger players, then somebody like Steve Davis would fit in with that. Out of all the names put forward Coyle would be my choice on experience and his teams do play football. more worrying for me I think they know who they want and are just going through the motions. Kenny Jacket, hope I am wrong, can’t see any obvious reason for him quitting his job a Millwall, maybe he knows something.
So we can rest assured in our beds – Wanderers have ‘a process’ for finding a suitable Head Coach/Manager. It appears that the hierarchy has learnt from past mistakes. Then Steve Morgan would take advice from some ex Liverpool player he’d met in the pub and make an inspired appointment.
Most large competent organisations have a systematic approach to making top management appointments. Either their Human Resources Department, or a bunch of headhunters hired for the purpose, trawl the field of likely candidates, take soundings on their past performance, interview them, and present a list of shortlisted candidates for ‘the big cheeses’ to conduct final interviews and make an appointment.
So Wolves are only doing what any competent organisation would do. Kevin Thelwell is doing the initial screening and coming up with a shortlist. The only difference is that the Board make the final appointment, and we all know that Chairman Steve Morgan has the final say. It all depends on which ex Liverpool player he’s met in the pub and asked about the shortlisted candidates. Whilst the spin is that it’s “a process’ it all appears a bit of a lottery.
Plus ca change, plus la différence.
Yep you got it. It just takes a lot longer to arrive at the same mistake.
which makes the appointment of a director of football a complete waste of time as we all know. if someone competent is employed to make a shortlist that would make him a secretary. if the decision is made by mr morgan at least we know who to blame then when it goes wrong again.. as many have already said the two muppets want yes men . cant the fans buy the club ?
I fear you are right, seems to much of a co-incidence about Jacket.
Their only criteria is to get a yes man in. Interesting flashback whenever we get a new manager he always mentions he knows the constraints the club has to operate within. It is obviously drummed into them.
I am sure you can count on us operating 100% with young players, I think Moxey has already told Steve they will not need to buy to “survive’ in the third tier. He will sell what he can, make a decision on cancelling contracts on others, but I will be amazed if we bring anyone in.
I keep on suggesting Dave Jones if he would even talk to us. We need safe hands and he just ticks all my boxes, with zero risk. Morgan should crawl over broken glass to get him. He is absolutley what we need right now.
I appear to be a minority of one though.
Feeling pessimistic, please .. No Jacket required .. not here.
a question …. can anybody think of any wolves managers over the last 30 years to have gone on to bigger or better clubs ? it seems to me that we destroy them mentally and emotionally then spit them out..why would anyone want this poison chalice ?
Ye, I know it beggers belief . This was; is a big club – so what’s wrong with us Moxey.
about time for some public hangings…..bring out your dead ! …… just wondered Mr Morgan if icould have a job at wolves please only it seems quite an easy carreer-doing nothing for loads..so if you can contact me please at Broadmoor t would be appreciated xxx
There’s still another division below us !!. They’ll sit back thinking they have the players to breeze us out of this mess and it’s the cheap option which they’ll love. It’s starting to sound very alarming.
Can’t wait to be proved wrong.
new song for the south bank….WE WERE WOLVES !
Another one….BEST GROUND IN THE DIV
Won’t catch on I’m sure.
or we forgot theres no one here !
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm, been so many there must be one.
McGee is Assistant Scottish manager lol :).
On the other hand looking at it a different way and considering where we are now theres a couple.
Dave Jones at Weds
MM at Ipswich.
I know what you mean though we chew em up and spit em out.
It seems self-evident to me that any manager we might have heard of e.g. Jackett, Coyle, Ferguson (Darren, for the avoidance of doubt :)) should be immediately ruled out on the basis of if they were any good why would they be considered suitable to a league 1 club? I suggest we go for an up and coming hungry manager who hasn’t as yet managed at a higher level and who wants to prove himself. On that basis, Steve Davis, Dean Smith et al seem a far better bet. If he can be tempted, however, I’d go for Gary Neville. Remember the winning mentality of Ince and the complete professionalism of Irwin. MUFC is a great school for the winning mentality and total committment to the cause that we so desperately need. He’d also take absolutely no shit from M&M which probably immediately rules him out but at least we can dream…….
There is a Greek term for someone who after many years in “power” starts to believe in their own publicity to the detriment of good decision making. OK it normally applies to politicians – Thatcher and Blair were described as such. Moxey seems to be exhibiting such behaviour. He thinks he’s untouchable. I cannot remember the term at the moment. But the Black Country equivalent is fVKIN cVnT!!
Got that right mate, not sure of the term. But I have worked with a few. Just becasue I say its so it must be.
Hubris (pron.: /?hju?br?s/), also hybris, from ancient Greek ?????, means extreme pride or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one’s own competence or capabilities, especially when the person exhibiting it is in a position of power.
Good description of our CEO.
That was it – hubris!!! Thanks. My IQ has just increased a notch or two!! Seriously, the ancient Greeks really looked upon it as a personality disorder. That explains things doesn’t. I mean a few months back Moxeymoron was saying that we wouldn’t be doing an Albion (although I do one on a regular basis especially after a my daily does of bran flakes) and then the next minute the FFC*** himself is casting envious eyes in the direction of Sandwell with all this head coach bullsh!t!!! We are in deep shit with this guy! The only way is for someone in our ranks to come forward with ball the size of Al Capone!
Just had a lovely mental image.
Joey Barton as player/manager, having his first disagreement with fat greasel, and the inevitable outcome, blood on his knuckles as greasel goes to hospital!
I can but dream!!
Looks like the first interview might be the charismatic Kenny Jacket after all. Spent 6 years getting Millwall back to where they usually are and on the brink of taking them back down again. Produced no players of note i can think of. Why do i bother ?
I hear you. But hey, he’s cheap! And he’ll do what Moxey tells him.
If they appoint him, expect more of the same next season.
This is a little memory test for the “More Mature Supporters” and it starts with “Do you remember when?” In the 1960’s and 1970’s Me and all my mates supported WWFC but also took an interest in a London based club bizarre now to even think of it. So next season if Pelligrini ends up at Man City that will be my second club. New brush at city and SAF in the background at United. Interesting times ahead up’t north me thinks. I fear the worst as it seems like M & M are structuring our clubs demise. Sad and worrying times ahead I’m afraid.
Still no Moxey news.
Has Morgan a cunning stunt ?
Out of darkness cometh Div4.
gangwolf mate I reckon the new starwars film has been modelled on the job that the sister brothers have performed for us … ” INTO THE DARKNESS ! ” how on earth is moxey STILL at wolves ? mr morgan please take note … get rid of moxey and we will get out of this.keep him and we will be wearing black next season !
Given the current freefall Messrs Morgan, Moxey, and ‘Topper’ Thelwall could be having a CONFERENCE in a couple of years time.
Star Trek Into Darkness you mean.
We definitely need our Captain Kirk. But we need someone to boot out the corrupt admirals above him or our starship enterprise is gong to plunge into the black hole of division 4 pretty sharpish.
That’s some Ben level metaphors right there 😉
I knew it was one of em ! that’s who thelwell looks like…. a Klingon !
Cunning stunt I’ve never heard Moxeymoron called that before! I don’t think there are any rabbits in Morgan’s hat rather skeletons on the closet! The events since MMs sacking smacks of a hidden agenda. An agenda where the primary focus is to protect and enhance the wealth of two certain individuals and success in the field and the welfare of staff at Molineux (with the exception of the players) comes a very poor second. There is only one way from here and that is Morgan out, Moxey out!
While Messers Moxey and Thelwall are probably having a full english with a glass of something i’ve been trawling Millwall stuff. Last season they lent heavily on a large number of loan players. When challenged why he wasnt playing any youngsters Jacket said that they werent good enough yet – and he has been coaching there for 6 years ! Expect him to get the job.
was looking at thellwells photo today and wondered if anyone noticed the likeness to ” wheres wally?”
Who is this ‘Topper’ Thelwell anyway ? Nothing seems to be known about him until he is 32. Did he play for anyone ? Has he had a sex change ? All i can find out is he has got a business diploma from some college in Norfolk.
I aint got a clue other than seeing him hiding in those books !
Absolutely.
The least he could do is get a better wig, for his balding head!
If his taste in managers matches his taste in toupes we are doomed!
its just GOT to be a combover for me … in the mould of bobby Charlton. the birds love it !!
Anything but that piece he has on now.
It symbolises trying to hide something & in his case badly.
What does that say about Wolves?
It’s awful and without Moxey gone, does the manager matter?
hed need to be bloody good to hide behind THAT …… I cant get exited about the manager rob cos we all know who would be controlling the signings and just about everything else ….
Goldy, it symbolises the whole process of this ‘Management Ethos.’
A badly fitting toupe.
Pretending to be one thing, but really another.
Until Moxey goes my interest is tinged with contempt.
Well done Wigan, now there is a team that played with pride!
Dont want to start a row goldy but technically i think were looking at a comb forward with safety spectacles.
AND a high vis hair clip colin ! hed never get on my site without one!! 🙂 trust me to lose on a technicality
full kit inc. shin pa\ds and a wig…. we really would be saying something to league uno…at least wed make em laugh 🙂
As i’m out of a job end of the season I might just throw my name into the hat !!!!
DiMatteo!!! Please, please, please!!!
For all those talking up the contenders, check out their win stats! Lets not have our fans wrongly influence the Board again based on hearsay, personalities or getting in a “name”.
Biggest decision 4 our club in yrs…let’s make it a good ‘un!
Di Matteo all the way as Head Coach!
UTW
I cannot see Di Matteo wanting to work with Moxey and Thelwell in the third division!
Di Matteo would be great in his last job he won the Champions League and the FA Cup !
A name that nobody has banded about much that I have a sneaky feeling could be the man they have in mind for the job is Keith Downing. I wouldn’t be 100% convinced given his lack of managerial experience but the more I think about it, the more he seems to tick the boxes that we seem to be looking for. We’ve publically stated that the s**t up the road are our blueprint for the next few years (what a sorry state of fuckin affairs) and he’s been there for about 5 years now, working his way through the academy, youth team and he’s now been assistant manager to a couple of good managers. You would think that he’d be looking for the step up to a number one job sooner rather than later and what better place to start than his former club in league one just up the road. Although he’s been with those stripey bastards for a few years, I’m sure most Wolves fans would welcome him home. Might be way off the mark but I reckon there’s a lot worse qualified candidates out there.
I gave Psycho a mention on the previous “Dean Saunders sacked” blog and agree he could do a job but would hate for him to have to work under the restrictive influence of Moxeymoron.
Unfortunately it appears that whoever comes in is going to have to do the same thing. I still wouldn’t be astounded to see the fat bloke shown the door once the manager recruitment process is out of the way though. Morgan surely knows he is on a big PR campaign to even come close to winning the fans over. Coupled with his high earnings for a league one CEO I wouldn’t be surprised to see him relieved of his duties or even offered a role elsewhere in the company well away from the football and the fans. Might just be extreme optimism on my behalf though!
yes but would you trust the fat one serving pies at half time
and there is the problem..be assured the hierarchy DO read these blogs..so who knows
Just watched the cup final.
What can you say?
Wigan.
Great little team run on a shoestring.
Great owner, great manager, committed and skilful players, great supporters.
If only….
why do the players keep passing the ball to each other on the floor…..seems so strange !
It’s also strange how teams that play this way always end up in the premiership.
When will they learn that kick n rush is Sunday league stuff. NO. Division 1 stuff – that was close.
ive heard it said that its a tough league but that they do get the ball down and play…that’s us finished then
Do you think Dave Whelan would take Morgan on a work experience placement?
If only we had an owner that we could respect
All I’ve heard Dave Whelan do for the last 3 weeks is whinge to everyone about how Wolves broke his leg in the 1960 cup final, ended his career and never apologised.
Given it was 50 years ago and he played for Crewe after anyway, I think he needs to get over it.
Hasn’t exactly enamoured me to him. In fact if he needs to beat Villa to stay up and put them down next week, I’ll probably be on Villa’s side and that’s saying something !
Fantastic game. I think City totally underestimated Wigan, as they would. What pro’s…
This is what makes football great. Well done the underdog – wolf. Guty, class performance.
Would love to see Wolves play like Wigan did today. Think its great that all Wolves fans can get involved in a debate on a new manager and why shouldnt they ? For me its Davis for a new dawn.
it is great yes but whoever comes in will be powerless because he will be hamstrung by moxey again. also- until we get rid of the dross in the dressing room it will be business as usual. I would hate to see ohaha still here next season but it wouldn’t surprise me cos he is on a huge salary and long contract..we might as well give the job to kevin thelwell..
I agree goldy thats why dastardly and muttey will go for yes man Jacket but perhaps all three will eventually get shipped out together. On the players some of the dross will go.
I wonder what the home gates will be next season..empty north bank ?
OG, you do a disservice to season ticket holders in the north bank; everyone who sits around me bar one suggested that they had early birded. None of us asked for a new stand or a different seat but there’s quite a few of us and we will be back in good numbers I’m sure. We’ll just have to shout a bit louder if there are a few gaps.
no mate didn’t want to slap you with a kipper..just meant that it stands as our tower of doom . “THE NORTH BANK ! ” 🙂
empty Steve bull stand. Believe it’s shut for the season to cut costs. Means whenever the 2 minutes highlights are on TV the ground will look empty !
Just wandering when the 2 m’s will start the ball rolling for the new manager,
Because all this talk about Thelwell choosing is a load of Balls and a bit of a smoke screen do we really think that the 2 m’s wont have a say initially.
surely there’s enough candidates now to start interviewing,
Meany names have been banded about but my favourite still remains Owen Coyle.
I think the sooner we get our man the better instead off dithering like we always do.UTW.
I’d love Owen Coyle but I’m still not convinced that he’ll come to us. I know the headline in our favourite paper told us that he’d like the job but when you read on it was one of those stories where ‘a source close to owen coyle’ said he’d be interested in the job. There’s nothing actually from him. Besides, curbishley wanted the job a couple of years ago until he came and spoke to dumb and dumber and found out what he was going to have to work with! If Coyle would come I think he’d be most people’s first choice though.
It was really heartening to see Wigan win the FA cup. A team that only made it in to the football league in 1978 and were apparently put together for half the fee of Silva ! Fantastic ! And Swansea winning the league cup. It’s so good to see more modest and organic clubs succeed against the big boys.
Cutting to the chase As unpopular as Jez Moxey is with some, he is a capable business manager. If he stays, and it seems certain he will, the owner must restructure responsibilities and appoint a strong individual to head up the football side of the club with a direct line to Morgan.
As for the manager, perhaps what we need is a Brian Clough type. No nonsense, big personality, scything through any dressing room hierarchy. Someone that can build a team that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Who fits the bill ?
Mate, every time a managers job has come up in British football over the last 20 years, for whatever club, fans have been crying out for ‘a Brian Clough type’. Unfortunately, there was only one that came close, and he’s just retired after a pretty glittering career at old trafford!
No harm in dreaming !
True! Would love to see how Cloughie would get on in the modern game. Would pay good money to see his first meeting with O’Hara!
On what basis is Moxey a capable Business Manager ?. He has been CEO as we have slipped from the mega millions premiership, to the two bob 3rd division. sponsors, TV money, gate money all down the drain and the buck stops with the CEO who has made the decisions during this disasterous time. The buck stops with Moxey.
He has agreed contracts with over-rated premiership wannabees, with no escape clauses should something that was entirely possible happen which is going to drag us down further. He allowed the loan out of players which we could have done with, had he remembered to put in a recall clause. Incompetant!
I cannot believe the Steve Morgan can’t see it. He’s being made a complete fool of.
Business Manager, CEO, accountant. all questionable under trades descriptions
Cut out the cancer Steve. You owe him nothing.
My point remains. Being pragmatic it seems Moxey is staying put. He has proven himself to be a capable business manager as the club has been well run. What he is not is a football brain. That is the reason we are where we are. Muddled thinking and poor decisions concerning the manager and playing staff. Implosion. Not because the business side has been poorly run. I’m not a huge fan. If Moxey had gone I wouldn’t shed a tear but he is staying put for now so let’s hope a DOF or similarly influential individual who lives and breathes football is appointed to correct the imbalance at the top. If not then something needs to change to ensure football decisions are given appropriate priority to business decisions or we run the risk of making similar errors in the future.
Theres more to being successful than merely balancing the books. Being successful requires foresight, making an investments in a players that improve the team and raise or improve the level at which we play.
This is corner shop mentality. I’m sure sainsburys and tesco have taken chances on new outlets when they were tiny organisations, taking the advice of industry experts. We’re more like Barings bank. Profit on paper but the substance of the club devalued. I just hope we don’t end up as they did.
I think you’re right. There is more to running a business than counting beans. Unfortunately forward thinking visionary business intellects who are also football experts are as common place as rocking horse …. Food retailers including supermarkets employ people who have specific skill sets, experience and responsibility for their area of the business and work as a team to drive their company forward. That’s what wolves need, a balanced team, which I think Moxey could be a part of if the structure of responsibilities is changed.
Greaseball and Dullwell are locked into a difficult problem. Their task is to not put off
potential candidates then pass over to Moron whose job is to choose the next
unfortunate manager by saying,
“Whatever Jez or Kevin or Jez decide threats what we do”
WTF.
Alf, Dullwell is a good name.
Am totally disillusioned, Jackett and Owen Coyle!
Cor blimey, how low will we sink?
The way the club is being run we are heading to oblivion…
Just read Mel Eaves article in The Mercury enlightening to say the least basically he calls for the head of Alfredo Piemuncher intimating all our woes lie firmly at his door.
If they want to talk to Davis of Ferguson i would guess they will make a request to do so early in the week if they leave it longer it will look like dithering and interest will cool all round. Coyle and Jacket are free to talk – Coyle has been there and done it but i am not keen – anyone who has seen my previous comments will know i am totally underwhelmed by jacket.
Steve McClaren’s odds have shortened dramatically with a couple of bookmakers.
Yes. Saw it. Had an unbelievable stint in holland. Trouble is, he doesn’t feature in the e&s poll and looks like most wolves fans r ready 2 back coyle. Lets hope we don’t end up with another Bruce situation. At least he’s had some success and won things. Also, something 2 prove. Wouldnt rule him out too soon. Open mind.
Been round the block a few times had poor time at Forest maybe burnt out i would look for someone on the up. But what will be ect ….if they get this one wrong surely thats the end of Moxey. Seems to be a lot of understandable apathy from disillusioned fans.
I don’t know which bookies have shortened his odds but you can still get 25-1 on paddy power if you fancy a bet on maclaren!
Thanks Carl but no thanks – but who knows what there going to do i share the general lack of confidence.
Fuckin hell, I wish I’d took that 25-1 myself now. He’s 3-1 favourite now!
Does Anyone Know if We have spoken to Noddy Holder Yet.
Got to be the best candidate for me
“lets all pull together My oh My”
and as for Christmas !! well…
True! Would love to see how Cloughie would get on in the modern game. Would pay good money to see his first meeting with O’Hara!
I’m and old git but recently read a novel based on Cloughie’s time and the short lived disaster at Leeds. It’s more like a cross between a novel and a biography. I can’t for the life of me remember the title. Found it “We are the Dammed United” Bearing in mind that I was in my mid 20’s at that point, he was very insightful but his partner was the talent spotter (Peter Taylor), if only those were the ways of today. Anyway if you have not read it it’s well worth it’ If you do read it keep the watch in mind.
Enough said. Bring Stale back!
All the right reasons points towards that is the best solution.
1) even Moxey admitted SS had an extremely competent footballing brain, as he put it.
2) he had to go because Henry persuaded Moxey SS “was like oil and water” with the players – well – this one is easy: get rid of all the water in the machinery!!
All deadwood out, SS has made gold out of stone before. Mutineers OUT.
Bringing an unmerited club with low budget young players to first tier, then finishing fifth in first tier the first season! With no player investments!!
3) Non-hoof footballers & style needed, SS will focus on players that will adapt to his intelligent style of football, which will excel through the tiers with the same players from league one!
4) cost: SS back and parts of his parachute gets refunded.
It’s a no-brainer, Morgan, call Stale now and give him your apologies and he’ll come back to fix the mess. Starting with sacking the mutineers and building a team from the younger players. Come on!!
