I’ll start with the bad as I always find that’s the best way. Kevin Doyle has undergone surgery on a Hernia and will be out of action for two weeks. Mick McCarthy is confident he’ll be fit for the West Ham game despite the fact he’ll miss a fortnight of pre-season training.

It’s gutting really, especially when you consider what’s already happened to Big Chris. I was hoping Doyle would hit the ground running and immediately start producing his best form. In the aftermath of his time on the sidelines, it’s going to take him a good few weeks after he returns to get up to full speed.
Assuming nobody else comes in, this probably opens the door for Keogh to stake a claim for a starting role up top with SEB. I wouldn’t be gutted to see the grafter start the first game, but I don’t think it’s at all what the majority of fans had in mind.
The good news is that we saw off Walsall 1-0 last night with Andrew Surman getting the goal. I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback about this guy since we signed him and I think he could just sneak his way into the starting XI for the big kick-off.
Was anyone at the Banks’s Stadium last night? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the game.

Yeah I was there but missed the goal because we were still stuck in the que outside to get in. We filled 2 sides of the ground and surely they were expecting us to turn up in numbers so don’t understand why they didn’t have more turnstiles open but nevermind, going slightly off topic!!
Surman was the stand out player for me last night. Looked very neat, tidy and composed on the ball. Also thought Balde had a good game at the back, he won everything in the air and his distribution was decent as well. Would definately think he could do a job for us next season. SEB and Keogh were pretty quiet and was a bit disappointed a few more of the young lads weren’t brought on off the bench. Would have been a nice reward for them infront of so many Wolves fans after winning that tournament last week
I’ve never been to the Banks’s. Doesn’t sound like the facilities are up to much.
I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about Surman and Milijsas, I wonder if Henry’s place in the team might come under threat. Or maybe it will be a midfield four of Surman, Henry, Milijsas and Kightly. Interesting situation.
If Balde impressed I’m guessing he’ll sign, provided he drops his wage demands.
Quite a nice ground to be fair, and feel fully part of the game cus you are so close to the pitch. Just don’t think they were expecting so many of us for a pre-season friendly!!
Surman was played in the middle last night and on that performance could see him being very effective there next season so it might be a straight fight between him, Henry and Milijas for the 2 centre mid positions. As you say could be interesting who’ll get left out.
Seriously would be very happy if Balde did sign. Has to be a better option than Craddock and can you imagine a back four with him and big george in it!!!!
I bet anyone that Doyle will not be seen in a Wolves shirt until September at the earliest. Nevermind, the prolific Andy Keogh will fill the breach. Ask SEB what he thinks of that prospect…As you can tell, I am p**sed off with this big time. Another reason why I am better off being a miserable t**t. What a waste of energy it has been to smile broadly for so long about Doyle’s arrival when the bleeding obvious was always going to f**king happen. Infact, have a look back at past blogs and I am pretty sure I bloody predicted this would happen.
If Big Chris got dropped for Keogh for daring to score 15 before December, then Doyle can look forward to splinters up his anus as well as the hernia. F**king typical.
It is deeply frustrating what’s happened to Doyle and I’ve already had a text from my dad about it who is seriously down in the dumps, sitting next to Ben by the sounds of it.
But I don’t think we need to be all doom and gloom. Here’s one or two things to keep in mind, correct me if I’m wrong of course:
1. Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Wolves in the last year, so surely Zubar or Foley getting injured would be a bigger blow than losing Doyle.
2. At least it wasn’t SEB.
3. He might back for the big kick-off anyway. (Living optimistically) 🙂
I’ve cooled down a bit now – bad day. Wish he could have had the op when he first signed, but there again, maybe not as bad then. I just knew Keogh would start up top with SEB come August. We all did. The only moot point would be how Mick would arrive at that conclusion. But without sounding like a hypocrite (remember my ‘Wolves fans are not fickle post!’), I have, and will back him to the hilt like the rest of the lads. He could yet surprise a lot of people.
I’m glad you’ve cooled down Ben, I was starting to worry about you. I can’t imagine how hard you were hitting the keys when you were writing that earlier comment.
We should be grateful that we’ve got a player as good as Keogh to replace Doyle. He was playing really well towards the end of last season and I’m sure he’ll continue where he left off. Giving 100% and he even starting to find the back of the net.
Did you have a pie at Walsall Ed, I remember them being quality last time I was there. Well worth the trip down the M6 for them alone.
We’re doomed………we’re doomed
£5m for Kris Commens from Derby, let’s go get him!!!! lol
On another note, I would like to welcome back our old friend Ben. While you have been away mate they had replaced you with an upbeat, positive guy posting happy-go-lucky properganda using your name.
I for one am glad you’re back from your little “happy hiatus” and now look forward to hearing all your doom & gloom prophesies about our chances this season. To be honest mate, that other guy, shamelessly parading round under you’re moniker, posting happy happy joy joy feelings was starting to make me a little nervous.
GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK!!!!
It might just be me but when I heard the news about Doyle, yeah I was pissed off, but I thought for once the club had done the right thing. Hernia ops now adays don’t take that long to come back from (hopefully not the kiss of death here!!) and if the player is struggling it is better to operate quickly rather than do what we have done so many times in the past and try to keep the player going for as long as we can before operating. There must have been alot of pressure on the club to try to patch him up and try to get him to play through the hernia problem for as long as he could, especially with him being our record signing, only for him to break down at Christmas when the pain got too much. Yes its something we could have done without but he’ll be back soon enough and as Nicko said I think Keogh could surprise a few people this season. Yes he might not be prolific but Premiership defenders never like a striker who doesn’t give them time on the ball, look at Andy Johnson, Carlos Tevez, Dirk Kuyt.
Oh, and Nicko no I didn’t try the pies. Wish i’d have known. Gutted!!!
Does this count as a comment???
Cheaters never prosper Pete! 😉
