One keeper on strike, one striker worth keeping and one win in seven games.

One wretched defeat, one meaningful shot and one television spectacle to make any grown Wolves fan cry.
It was bad enough that we tossed away yet more momentum with the flagrant disregard of a Bakary Sako pass, but even worse that an entire nation saw what a hopelessly anaemic, one paced side we can be.
After this miserable spectacle, Notts Forest won’t touch Sako with a shitty stick, Michael Jacobs will go back to Derby and a Scottish side will be telling our one striker worth keeping to come home for the sake of his sanity.
Only a Massey Ferguson was missing from this ploughed field in Kent and judging by David Edwards, Kevin Doyle, George Elokobi and the extraordinarily useless Sako, the tractor would have been more mobile.
This was the pits and proof that if 28,000 can turn up for a Christmas home game, the very same amount can feel such acute levels of pain that they probably thought they’d left behind last season.
Well folks, have Wolves got news for you…
…Things can get a damned sight worse and failing some reinforcements as a matter of urgency, they most probably will.
After some promising signs against Tranmere and Leyton Orient before, things eventually degenerated into complete farce tonight, as heard in Gillingham fans’ jeers whenever the hopeless Sako got anywhere near the ball.
The Frenchman generated more laughs than Jack Dee on a good night and his umpteenth circus act ended with the ball rolling under his foot in the first minute of injury time, which allowed Gillingham to throw, then kick the winner within seconds.
To hear Gillingham fans guffaw at one of our players as we laughed at Martin Allen’s red trousers back in August shows how far we have fallen, and will continue to fall if we don’t reinforce this squad.
True, the players were doubtless leggy after so many games in so few days, but had we have taken the FA Cup seriously, we would not have been making a national embarrassment of ourselves in the first place.
Maybe this will act as one final wake-up call to Jackett, Morgan and Moxey.
Maybe the manager will dispense with players who have blighted any sense of progress for too long and maybe, our owner might have learned that passive penny pinching won’t work.
Like a Friday night in front of the TV, we will have to see what happens.

Oh Dear. Different names – same performance same result. I see I’m missing nothing. A team on the slide.
We dominated the play and created most attempts – unfortunately off target. It’s just minor adjustments – a new striker which can pair up with the Griff. We have loads of good players. Henry and Jacobs, McDonald, Davis, Edwards, Sako. Our midfield is classy and our defence is the best in the league. Why so pesimistic people? We are still up there contending for direct promotion. There’s one striker or more on his way in january, because everybody aknowledges that’s what we need, also Jackett (I’m refering to the experiment playing Sako up front), wait and see, stop moaning. Bad waves are the last we need now.
Good to see you back on here m8.
Pferdepferde,
Good to see you still keeping in touch mate. I may be joining you soon!!!
Not really (joining you that is), but I am getting quite frustrated.
Hope you had a great Xmas.
Thanks guys but it was only because it was on TV. I was surprised how bad they were and how bad the football is.
Don’t they watch premiership sides play and try and learn something ?
That really hurt. Feel a bit sick.
Liked the possession football, first half particularly, but there was a woeful lack of cutting edge. Only Jacobs really got at them in a meaningful way.
Sako as you say was awful. Absolutely awful. And I’m his biggest fan. It was his clumsy control that saw Gills regain possession in those dying seconds when it should have been us going forward.
And the difference between now and earlier in the season when the wins were rolling in is that our goalscorers i.e. Sako and Griffiths aren’t firing. The latter of course having the significant handicap of not being allowed on the pitch. Baffling.
I’ve always liked Doyle because he tries to get the ball down and play, but we’ve now get plenty of good passers and movers (Jacobs, Henry, McDonald) so we need a striker that offers a more direct threat inside the penalty area.
Assuming there’s no off the field Griffiths issue, he must play every game for me, regardless of the formation. He’s the only striker we have that I genuinely believe the goals will come for if he’s given time on the pitch.
A plus was McCarey who I thought was excellent. A few minor fumbles but nothing to duly concern about our immediate future. I was happy that Jackett didn’t mince his words and effectively threw Hennessey under the bus with the fans. If he wants out then jolly well piss off then.
The local rag will read: ” Jackett stands by his squad ” and ” the Kids will come good ” for those of you expecting major buys in january your going to be very disappointed. Bob the Builder and the Fat Controler wont be release and major funds. oh and ” the kids are the future says jackett ” while Bob got his arm up his back and a trowel stuck in his gut.
And as every defeat passes we are becoming les and less of an appeall, ask yourself this would you come here as apposed say to a championship club.
It is not impossible that Sako is solds in january, and Sigurdarson has delivered a transferrequest also. If one or both of them leaves I’ll expect replacements
At Last youve finnally seen the light about Doyle only took you 5 years. We need a stiker who offers a threat in the box, no shit ive only been saying that about Doyle since he pitched up. Well lets hope it doe’nt take Jackett 5 years. And yes im going to say it ” I TOLD YOU SO “. Ever since i stumble on this Blog ive been saying Doyle well, is shit but lots of you have said ” but he hold the ball up ” he hbeen holding the club up since he arrive. DOYLE my arse i won’t have him cleaning the kit and yes im enjoying this some of you have finally come to your senses. Thank Fuck for that.
I can see where you’re coming from on Doyle, even though I disagree.
However, how is what you’ve written not absolutely equally descriptive of Cassidy, who you seem to love so much?
Don’t get me wrong, I feel sorry for the lad and hope he gets his confidence back from somewhere. But why is it that Doyle not scoring is his own fault, but with Cassidy it’s the rest of the team’s?
Because Cassidy is proven at this level. He came back from Tranmere on fire but Deano wouldn’t play put on the bench hench next to Paul from featherstone is 6 minutes for Cassidy that all Saunders was giving him here and there so what happens he loses his sharpness and to some extent Jackett has been guilty of the same he brought him on for 2 minutes against Orient 2 minutes what the fuck is anyone supposed to do in 2 minutes. And know he’s played him the last 3 games and he hasn’t score you lot are saying he’s shit, well you would be if you’ve been warming the bench for months on end also Cassidy is not match fit and as I’ve blogged on many occasions he at his best when paired with another striker not on his own up front. 1 more point how many goals has Doyle scored in the last 3 seasons it not even in double figures Cassidy got 16 goals on loan at Tranmere in 26 games in an average League One team no change there then. Doyles had 5 years to prove his worth you lot have give Cassidy barley 5 minutes. Give the lad a break
Doyles record as a striker is shocking, he’ s never been prolific, so i carnt understtand why manager after manger have played him and as a lone striker. He carnt score when he’s playing along side someone never mind on his own. Our defenders have scored more goals then Doyle.
When that is said, I must add that Sako played ok in the first half and was actually involved in lot of our creative, attacking play, when he moved out wide in the second half he played very poorly – his crosses was terrible. He was almost through several times in the first half, but the through passes was interupted.
All I wanted for Christmas was a football team……
🙁
very sad.looks like times up for jackett
You must be joking!
How can you say that the time is up for Jackett when he’s only been here for half a season and has had no money to spend on bringing in the players he wants to build the team he wants.
I think it is generally agreed that the loan signings he has brought in have been a success.
Everyone said that “we should give the youngsters a chance” after being let down by the old lags.
Well, they’ve had a chance. Some of them might not be good enough, so at least give the manager a decent go at bringing in some new faces.
One of the problems with football today is that no manager is given a fair crack of the whip.
Give the man a break for f**k’s sake!
the ptproblem is i feel is that those idiots running this club are stil having control over team affairs, and that jacket s hands are been tied,we should just cut our losses on the wasters at the club and pay them off, doyle edwards sako elokobis foley siggy cassidy not good enough,we are one paced predictsble team ,and we are on the slde big time,we should have players in mind now and spend the fuckin cash ,not wait til last minute to pick up scraps ,yet again this club is gambling on this squad to acheive , and weve all seen this comein for awhile ,weve rode our luck for too long, one minute ohara is in frame and then not , henno wants to leave ,its amess ,and thes clowns moxey and morgsan are a dragging us down ,they are trying to fool us all with this acadamay lark , so they dont have to spend , morgan u said if us fans want u out , u wil go, well we want answers from u w,whats your ambition with this great club aye
On a more serious note.
Great Report Ben,
Not sure I could have written such a truthful accurate report after feeling the emotions I do at the moment having watched that pile of shit.
Once again we were embarrassed on National TV
This team is no better than what played at Brighton.. It just earns less money.
I admit I never wanted Jackett in the first place and now the chickens are coming home to roost..
Honeymoon over Jackett start earning your keep because we should be rolling these teams over…
Last year we were saying the same about Barnsley this year its Gillingham…
Don’t really want to think any further but at the moment on current form we will be lucky to make the play offs
Worried Jackett is too stubborn for his own good. Why doesn’t Griffiths start? Cassidy hasn’t scored for wolves and Doyle hasn’t scored in 10! Siggy who should play doesn’t. It’s a joke.
We have to sign a striker in Jan. There are too many things wrong to list at the moment but our demise has been coming and it’s no surprise given the way we’ve played and personnel picked.
Sako needs to go he’s to hit and miss and doesn’t try hard enough. Sell him and bring in some proven quality.
We have to bounce back this season by securing automatic promotion. I’m worried we’ll finish in the play offs. I can’t see us winning a mini cup competition given our record against the other top six teams.
VINCENT TAN MAY BE A FILTHY RICH LOONEY BUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE HIM IN CHARGE THAN THE CHUCKLE BROTHERS THAT WE ARE STUCK WITH. EVEN HIS CRAZY IDEAS MAKE MORE SENSE THAN ANYTHING M&M CAN COME UP WITH .PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS ALL A BAD DREAM ! “WANTED NUTCASE ASIAN BILLIONAIRE TO PURCHASE FOOTBALL CLUB HEADING INTO OBLIVION CAN CHANGE SHIRT COLOUR IF REQUIRED WILL NEED TO PAY HEFTY BRIBE TO CHIEF EXEC SO HE CAN RETIRE IN LUXURY APPLY WWFC” . SOUNDS CRAZY? I DONT THINK SO ANY MORE
If that is what you really think then I think YOU are barking mad!
No sky TV in this household so myself and the Wolfcub take the traditional drive to a city centre pub where we can usually guarantee to be humiliated in just over 90 minutes as Wolves are on the telly!
As we trudge in fully branded in club gear, optimistically confident that this time we can enjoy the Wanderers on the television; needless to say disappointment soon overwhelms the optimism and once again the ‘locals’ get a good laugh at our expense. The fact we keep going back shows the club means everything to us but that’s not what I saw on the screen tonight and not the feeling that I’m getting from the board and management.
It was obvious after twenty minutes that we were not going to score and the only way to get a point was to hope for a goalless draw. Strength in depth in the ‘keeper department’ was reported all day in the media but suddenly we’re playing a debutante and an unknown on the bench. I’ve always been a keen supporter of Wayne and previously joined in with the chants of ‘H-e-n-n-e-s-s-e-y’ but never again; someone should remind him who paid his wages this week.
Thanks Ben for posting so quickly, at least I get the opportunity to ‘unload’ before bed instead of waiting for the morning. Desperately searching for a positive but all that comes to mind is this defeat may be the ‘kick in the pants’ that everyone in the boardroom needs to finally realise that we have no automatic right to return to the championship; we have to invest in order to win the required number of games. I bet Preston cannot wait until next weekend.
Sounds very familiar. Except round here it’s usually preceded by ‘Wolves? I didn’t know anyone supported Wolves!’
Not sure what Sako was still doing on the pitch to miscontrol that ball at the end. A demonstration to all kids of how one player’s bad attitude can have a detrimental impact on the whole game. Only one striker worthy of the name and KJ insists on not playing him. LG may well be a complete and utter p**k in real life but I’ve not seen evidence of that on the pitch, which is where is counts. I’ve been impressed with KJ’s signings to date: Ricketts, Golbourne, Henry, Jacobs, MacDonald all featured today. That we can’t fashion a goal with those players against an appallingly bad Gillingham side says something. Also, we mustn’t forget that he brought Griffiths in from the cold. Sadly, he’s no longer picking him. On the evidence so far, my verdict is that KJ is a great scout. Sadly, I’m not sure he’s a great manager (or should I say ‘Head Coach’?).
Great report, Ben. Really disappointing to watch tonight. Thought we actually controlled the ball in midfield really nicely all game, McDonald a rightful man of the match – him Henry and Jacobs look like the only three up for a game at the moment. Edwards is a regular disappointment for me and we should be looking and playing Price (hungry) or Davis/Evans (admittedly wasteful at times but hungry like Price).
Why Griffiths isn’t starting games is absolutely beyond me. He came on today, looked lively, running at defenders etc. but everyone around him looked tired. If Griffiths starts and can play alongside the energy that Henry and Jacobs were exuding in the first half (and Sako to begin with, before he turned very sour indeed).
Henry and Jacobs fire on all cylinders but they’re playmakers/wingers and need a Griffiths figure in the middle for at least 70 odd minutes, NOT 20!
Agree with some of the pro-Doylers, BUT he needs a Griffiths alongside him, he certainly can’t play on his own without another out-and-out striker.
Actually thought we were solid in defence – not that Gills threw much at us. Elokobi did ok filling in at CB and the miscontrol from Ricketts was unfortunate as I think he’s been superb this season. However, small gaffes like that shouldn’t be the difference against games like Gillingham. Goals should be flowing like they were at the start of the season, but we were filthy today. I think the 4 games in 9 days will have played more of a part than people are willing to admit, but everyone gets a hectic christmas schedule, and if we’re going to go up we’ve got to cope with that and see off teams like Gillingham with ease. Do I think we’re heading west? No. Do I think Jackett needs to pull his finger out with selection/signings? Absolutely. Griffiths up top (if we can now keep him) or a new out and out striker – stop playing Cassidy/Doyle on their own, it clearly doesn’t work. We must now do our best to secure Jacobs, best player over the christmas period by a country, alongside Henry.
We’re allowed a purple patch of course…but this has the potential to spiral out of control if we’re not careful. The start of the season was aloof with optimism, young players hungry to play for us (whatever has happened to Ismail, Evans etc.?) and playing good football, scoring goals and looking like all of league one looked up to us. Think the expectation is starting to get some people, up to Jackett to lift the team now…is he capable of that? I bloody well hope so!
UTW
Didn’t see the game, there is a god after all, but obviously a total disgrace, and now 5 points needlessly thrown away in 3 days.
Looking forward to the Preston game….not.
My beef however is with that ungrateful Welsh sheepshagger, Hennessey.
He should be fired immediately.
Saying he doesn’t want to play for us is breach of contract, no question, and should result in instant dismissal, no grounds for appeal or paying up of contract, nothing.
Puts him up there with all the other underachievers who think they are better than god.
Fuck him off instantly, that sort of talk makes me want to oil me shotgun!!!
Being a long suffering Wolves fan that moved to kent, I naturally checked on our beloved team braved the arctic wind and become one of the 911 visiting supporters at Gillingham tonight..
I am guilty at being a stay away and still in shock at the double drop but for a while sitting in the cold reflected on going to a club that we used to relish drawing in the cup as we could run up a big score for the fun if it..
As I sat there with gillingham supporters ( I said I was a scout looking at Sako lol ) they promptly took the piss out of my poor judgement ‘ he’s off balance’ not worth much..clown.. etc.. He sort of let me down ..
Anyway KJ is in the crap somewhat now I do feel sorry for him as we all know how fickle we are as supporters.. he has to do something fast here..
I thought the team tonight were just too casual ..we need a class midfielder who can hold the ball and control the match ..we need a class striker and our best player no 6 DB needs some support too..we need to ditch 6 players inc Sako who I thought was always worth his place but thinks he is bigger than Wolves… He is not..Griffiths should stay so should Jacobs…we need to spend £5-£10 million and recoup half by selling..
I have said here that play off place is a nightmare scenario ..of course we might not make even that and then what?
Thanks Ben – for the phrase that sums up our last five years. “Passive penny pinching. ” A phrase that saves a thousand words. It is at the heart of our demise.
I’m willing to place a bet tomorrow that we finish in the playoffs and get beat by Walsall….
Fuck… How the mighty have fallen
At least we didn’t get wet !! This was only an hour away for me – instead of the multi hour round trip I normally suffer.
Dreadful is so kind a description of what we were served up with tonight . Possession at times was good , but with absolutely no
cutting edge .Horrible…horrible game that makes me weep . Credit to Gillingham for winning but , they were cr*p …we were inept .
I only pity our loyal fans suffering that long trip home …with me sat here with a glass of wine and a fag ready rolled to finish the night with .
2014 ? , now earn your money kenny ..sort this out…I for one am back in the misery we’ve all seen for too many recent years .
I love our Wolves , so please M+M get a grip , back your manager for once …sort this mess ….sort it now .
Wont repeat points already well made most frustrating thing is i just dont understand why KJ wont start Griffiths the team he put out tonight looked like a 4-6-0.
Don’t even joke Nige! Oh god that thought makes me sick. I said we’d finish 7th at the start of the season. I might just be the oracle come May.
Ps On Hennessey never really been a fan like his blonde highlights always thought his keeping was a bit dodgy.
so much stink coming from one club its unbelievable… what the fuck is going on behind the scenes to cause players to behave as they are towards us … what the fuck has griffiths done… how the fuck can we be expected to compete for promotion with just academy players 3 decidedly average recruits … jacketts decisions making him look completely clueless… and where is the fact fuck with the cheque book … in all honesty we lucked a number of results earlier in the season, very few would genuinely have said our performances merited a top two finish, but now the teams hit hard times the wheels appear to well and truly have come off… on and off the pitch.
championship? ur having a laugh.
Hennessy the fucken twat. I always was an admirer of him but not anymore. He was brought from the academy, when he was injured for almost 2 years we stuck beside him, paying his wages. Now when we needed him he turned his back? He can fuck off instantly. Look at Ikeme, didn’t play first team for 9-10 years but never threw a fit like Hennessy. That’s a true professional and servant!
Back on the game now, it was appalling. Possession wise and the way we controlled the game was good and sometimes even great but we lacked the cutting edge which was most disappointing. Like stated before by others, LG on the bench is beyond me. Why is bjorn sigurdaraon not playing? Not even on the bench?
Edwards was non existent, put Evans or Davis on! Macdonald was excellent, his passing was phenomenal in my opinion. Saki was utterly useless as everyone is saying but unlike others I believed he was actually trying really hard to make amends but the more he tried the more he became shit. Big old Elokobi was pretty reliable which was pleasing.
Time for Kenny jackett to get a striker and midfield player that has flair and can run at defences soon and get rid of all the dead wood.
UTW!
Nice knowing you Wayne, go and join rest of the overpaid primadonnas who’ve let us all down, there’s a queue forming.
How many corners did we win ? How many did we hoof into the box ? How many big, imposing strikers were waiting to get on the end of them ?
Hennessey should be shot with balls of his own shite. Showed complete contempt for his profession and his team mates. Hope he rots in the development squad until the end of his contract. If he never played first team football again it would be too soon.
Fat Lady is clearing her throat for Jackett. IMO he has one month and if we havent seen significant improvement then he should be tossed overboard.
Morgan and Moxey, well they can just fuck off. Stupid cu*ts are killing our club and robbing us of any joy we get from football.
Do you honestly think that anyone else would do better than KJ?
And anyway, toss him overboard after half a season and no manager in his right mind would want to replace him.
He has to be given at least a whole season, with the chance to bring his own players in.
You can vent your spleen at Morgan and Moxey, but until they stump up the cash to bring in some new blood, changing the manager will be a waste of time.
The club needs stability to improve.
Where has hiring and firing got us so far?
From the Premiership to Division 3, that’s where!
As I said, Jackett from my perspective has the transfer window to demonstrate that he can get the job done. Right now he’s failing badly, and our form has been so poor all season I would go so far to say results have been extremely kind to him.
If he hasn’t recruited 3-4 excellent players to the club (striker, midfielder, central defender – may be even a loan keeper) then I’ll know he’s just a lackey and apologist for Dumb and Dumber. If he isn’t getting results then I will know for certain he’s out of his depth, because this is a piss-pot division that even the likes of Saunders was bossing.
These clubs we’re playing, with all due respect, have one-tenth of our resources, so that means Jackett is being out-coached.
Anyone wish Wolves could go back 1 year and not sack Solbakken; or amazingly just 2 and not sack Mick McCarthy ?
No!
Hell no!
Fuck no!!!
I’d rather eat my own shit than re: employ Merlin the Destroyer. McCarthy will fuck up at Ipswich sooner or later he’s a one trick pony. NO NO NO NO NO not in a trillion years. Stale was different but you should never go back like an old girlfriend it never works out.
Great to read such a prompt and spot on report; it’s all been said by now so I won’t repeat, but must agree about Hennessey’s treachery, and Jackett’s incomprehensible selection and tactics.
We ‘could’ easily have won the game during the first half, and the bits of recent good form can still be built upon if only we can get through the transfer window with an improved squad.
Knowing us we could up our game against PNE and after them there are five ‘easy’ matches, lol, so we could be top again by the end of January !
But only if Jackett finally learns what fans have known for years, and Messers Morgan and Moxey come out of hiding.
Rubbish….Pathetic…From what we have seen, most of the team should be cleared out ! A real dismal showing …they should be ashamed of themselves!
I have held back this season because we were winning and getting a draw here and there when we should not have been but it’s all about points on the board.
Last night I lined up a few bottles of ale and settled down to watch the match. From the get go the way the ball was not running I thought this will test the boys and how they ailed that test.
In Ben’s great report he really covers all the points I would make but, will add this. If we do not strengthen the squad we might not even figure in the play offs, and if we do there is no guarantee of success based on last nights performance.
I don`t know what was more depressing, watching wolves lose or then staying up to watch the first couple of hours of the fifth Ashes test. Utter bollucks.
Surprise, surprise, Gillingham get all their players behing the ball as our lack of pace and cutting edge is again exposed. Same thing happened at Tranmere.
My half season ticket seems a really bad idea buy this morning.
Hennessy must be in breach of contract. Take clear and decisive disciplinary action against him and unload him for as much as we can get. The cheque book needs to come out for a proven goal scorer (or two) at this level now otherwise I fear the play offs at best. Cut our losses on O Hara, Ward and Johnson and get what we can for them. Reinvest.
Hennessey must be barking, as well as being an ungrateful sod. If it is Palace, why would you move to play second fiddle in a relegation-bound team, rather than grab a chance to re-establish yourself in the team that has stood by you during long injury with the chance of a better move later on, or ending up in the same division anyway with Wolves? Doesn’t show much ambition or faith in himself. Money, money, money. It’s the agents who need shooting. Or has he been given a signal that we are covered in the GK position and would like his transfer fee?
Grim last night and I really feel for those who wasted a substantial part of their lives to be there. When did Sako last do that inspirational thing we seem to keep him in the side for?
Great report Ben .. Hard hitting, and I’m guessing you didn’t have enough time to put into words ALL of your feelings after last night.
Here’s mine .. That showing heaps shame on the name of WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS and all of it’s supporters.
Jackett .. you wont need a video to realise what shit you’re trying to coach .. we’ve seen it for years .. it’s the same old players who play reasonably well one week and fail miserably the next.
i’m going to be interested with how you deal with Hennessey .. refusing to play without punishment will send out totally the wrong signals. He ought to be fined 4 weeks wages at least and made to train with O’Hara.
I’m certain that the 2 M’s WONT be spending any money .. I might be wrong but I can only think of two players we’ve paid a fee for …. (Totalling 1/2 mill).
It was the WORST performance for a long long time .. having 70% possession will count for fuck all if the ball never gets into the opposition’s 1/3 of the pitch!
I feel sick …
Possibly the worst individual performance by a Wolves player I’ve witnessed from Sako. His heart clearly wasn’t in it. Calls for Jackett to go are ridiculously premature. He’s put a good side together, making some cracking signings – Jacobs and McDonald were awesome at times last night. But he counteracts that with some baffling decisions on the pitch. He’s got the defence and midfield largely sorted but of course you need to have someone to put it in the net. Having your top scorer on the pitch would probably help. Preston is huge next week and right now after a poor couple of months we’re looking likely to miss out on automatic promotion.
For years I’ve dreamt of watching a Wolves team able to dominate possession and control a match from start to finish. Last night I saw one. However the sport also requires the ball to be put into the net from time to time. As someone else pointed out we appeared to be playing 4-6-0 (or, at times, even 2-8-0 with the full-backs getting forwards) but stats of 18 shots of which only 5 were on target (and a couple of those from outside the area) tells us where the problem lies. I won’t dwell on individual performances, but there is no time to lose if we are serious about getting out of this division this season. I believe Bamford’s loan to MK Dons ends tomorrow. Time to make some enquiries ? As for Hennessey, one word – ingrate.
He’s already signed for Derby mate.
Absolutely appalled by the performance last night…and even more so by the revelation that a player being paid by the club didn’t want / wouldn’t play!!!! Who does Wayne Hennessey think he is, Carlos Teves? For a former academy player his attitude stinks…and confirms what the state of the Wolves has been behind the scenes for many years. I would state that there were many many highly paid players at Wolves over the last three to four years that took to the pitch, but didn’t want, wouldn’t and didn’t play for us!
In terms of last night…apart from the terrible quality of crosses and balls into the opposition box, I still cant understand why we are persisting with such an approach when we clearly don’t have a striker at the club who can head the ball, or hold the ball up when delivered in the air, this is obviously what KJ wants Cassidy to do, but it just isn’t happening at the moment. What we do have in Doyle occasionally and most certainly in Griffiths and Siggi when given the opportunity are strikers who need the ball to feet. Why bring on your most potent forward, who is about 3 foot high! And then continue to deliver crap crosses into the box! Im praying that KJ has been speaking to Kevin Philips and we see him sign asap. He is just the type of 6 – 12 yard predator we need, and don’t have at the club at present! Philips up front with Griffiths playing slightly deeper would be more than enough to dig us out of this division…even with the questionable crossing abilities of our wide players!!!!
Anyway…lets not let the b*stards (yes that’s aimed at you Wayne!) grind us down! Keep the faith!!! UTW
I agree with the need for penalty box predator but I just can’t get used to the idea of KP in a Wolves shirt. It’s not just about the WBA/Blues connection but I’ve just not liked him since he scored an equaliser for Sunderland at Molinuex in the 8/9th minute of injury time, more than a few years ago! Sad I know but just not Phillips for me. The scouts need to work hard to find an alternative please. Of course re WH – he’s got some nerve and should be sacked!
Jebus ! I could have turned in a better performance than some of our players last night and I’m 61!
Utter shite ! No, they were not that good !
What striker, or any other sane player, would want to join us ?
And I could not swear at the tv as my 9 year old grandson was here !
Don’t think I can add anymore to what’s already been said here! Embarrassed? Yes! Fed up, disappointed, pig sick & completely bloody furious!! WTF is Hennessy playing at? How to be the most hated Wolves player in 5 seconds?!!!
These 2 matches should have been 6 points, we get 1! We have strikers who can’t score & a team that can’t finish!
After 37 years of ups & downs I wonder why the hell I bother. Guess its cos I love my team but this morning I’m really asking myself why!!
We need to pick up points & fast!!
Come on Wolves!!!
beaten by probably the worst team in league 1. a team of grafters, spoilers and porkers. a team we swept away at the heady days at the beginning of the season. Thats progress ???? No. Just a legacy of lack of ambition and investment – again !
and , for me, the most worrying aspect is that KJ does not yet know his strongest eleven. It happened with MM and its happening now.
In my opinion, Hennessey should be forced to give back the salary that he was payed for all those months when he was injured and the club looked after him without question.
I hope he never pulls on a Wolves jersey again and he should have his contract terminated with immediate effect.
As I said earlier, Jackett must be given a decent chance to build HIS OWN SIDE.
To say he should go now is complete madness and symptomatic of the short-termism (is that a word?) which pervades football today.
And to say that we want a Vincent Tan to buy the club is just total insanity.
You can probably guess that I am angry, but at least I haven’t lost my marbles.
The day a ‘Vincent Tan’ figure buys our club is the day I stop supporting it.
I agree wholeheartedly with your sensible comments. It seems some who have posted here have reacted too quickly, allowing their immediate disappointment to cloud a reasoned response. Life is full of disappointments but nowadays we are encouraged to demand that our wishes are granted immediately.
Tough, it doesn’t work like that.
Er excuse me, Vincent tans side are playing in the premier league not division 3 and even he will find it difficult to match the ludicrous decisions made by our chief executive and chairman which are the sole reasons we are where we are. My correspondence was written to try and display the irony of the situation that even a lunatic like him, making off the wall laughable decisions like he does can make a better fist of the job than pinky and perky who are in charge of us .It was not meant as a serious suggestion … but then again……
Your report Ben,Great, but to kind to some of the wasters out there last night.
Didn’t get to the watch the game but heard it on WM.
For me the buck stops with the KJ for not allowing our best striker Griffo to start,i think he would’ve made the difference had he started, then we wouldn’t be feeling so depressed this morning.
IMO we need a big forward to play with Griffo somebody to hold the ball up and who can get a head on the ball sooner than later.so come on Jacket get that striker in NOW OR ITS PLAYOFFS AT BEST WE CAN HOPE FOR.
Regarding the Hennessey issue, I’m very surprised that some people are laying all of the blame at Hennessey’s door and portraying the club as the innocent party in this whole debacle. It would seem obvious to me that a fairly concrete deal would need to have been lined up between Wolves and another club (supposedly Palace) in order for Hennessey to make the drastic decision to refuse to play for the club that has treated him extremely well through so many years of ongoing injuries. Jackett came out immediately and publically to deny any personal knowledge of any bids or direct contact from other clubs. Well Mr Jackett, welcome to the deceitful world of WWFC owned by Steve Morgan and controlled by Jez Moxey.
For most of the season we have been very lucky. if the other sides had been able to put the ball in the net, we would have lost a lot more. I just hope we manage to continue to get rid of the old brigade and bring in some other players.
Steve Bull please come back!
Hennessey – dont care what’s going on behind the scenes. He’s a Wolves player and when we needed him – he let us down. He has under contract to play for Wolves end of! Again another case of football fans – in this case Wolves fans – being given the two fingers! Although the silver lining was that McCarey did well and looks like ww could have another good goalie on the books. Anyway – he’s all we’ve got because no way can WH be allowed to wear the old gold n black again – otherwise we are insulting our legends who wore the shirt with pride. And that is not an over the top remark – it is a fact!
Griffiths – the snakes at the top have obviously told KJ to protect him for sale in the Jan window, otherwise how on earth do you explain our top goalscorer, our most dangerous and best player this season to be put on the subs bench for the the last 5/6 games. No manager in his right mind would make such a poor decision. Griffiths will be sold and the risk of injury through playing matches must be minimised – that’s what the two c*nts at the top have decided!
Fair reflection Ben.
What a shambles – they look nothing like a promotion winning side to me.
The remaining members of the Prem team are confirming what we all knew all along – they were never Prem players in the first place.
No win in 7 games and still our leading scorer starts on the bench – stinks of the stubbornness of McCarthy all over again I’m afraid. Edwards gets a game though – so I’m obviously missing something.
And if we did go up Morgan will never throw the money at the team required for a decent push at the championship. We’re all doomed!
Also love the way it’s all about Hennessey today – yes he’s a complete disgrace but the main issue is our poor form.
Never rated Wales No1 as highly as many fans anyway – like Paul Jones before him he was a bit light weight and has the ability to drop a bollock IMO.
For me the biggest disappointment in the last two matches is how well we played against the same teams at home. If you’d seen how totally dominant we were against both Gillingham and Tranmere at Molineux, could you possibly have imagined that in the return fixtures we’d only score one goal and get one point?
How has it all gone so wrong? Look at Brentford, they lose a good manager in Uwe Rosler but since he went, they’ve absolutely taken off.
We ought to be doing the same considering what we’ve spent on players. Doyle cost over £6m and I think Sako and Siggy were over £1m each. This is without mentioning the likes of O.Hara, what was he, £5m? Yet what have teams like Brentford and Orient spent on players? Very little, I’ll be bound.
But having said that, I agree with DOOG that KJ should be given the rest of the season to sort things out. His signings have been sensible, he’s gone a long way towards sorting the defence out, and he’s prepared to give young players like Jack Price a chance.
But whether the club will back him in the transfer window may I’m afraid depend on yet more players being unloaded, with any deals only being done on 31 Jan so it’s too late to sign replacements.
Have a rest now, lads, and I look forward to seeing you against Preston.
From all our performances this year I have never been convinced we are promotion material. We might get luck we might not, but we are not asserting ourselves in this league they way we needed to. Moxey and Morgan seem quiet and obviously content with where we are. Jackett seemed like a decent guy for the job, but i notice of late he is having to put a spin on things he obviously can not change. I am afraid i am not really expecting promotion.
The Hennessey affair stinks, something odd is going on. If he was selected and refused to play he will be in breach of contract, should be fined heavily and suspended by the club without pay. He has withdrawn his contracted servicews. it should also be a matter for the FA or whoever overseas contracts. He must not be allowed to benefit financially from this. Nor should Wolves lose out.
Regarding the situation of Wayne Hennessy refusing to play against Gills on Friday evening. No doubt he has been promised a move if the club get a decent offer and before Friday I think most fans would hve wished him good luck, but should not wear the shirt again. I think it is fairly obvious by now the manager is working with one hand tied behind his back. we only have one striker who can score and he is not being picked, looks like he will be returning to Scotland.
We need to act quickly in the transfer window, not wait until the last few days. KJ seems to have a good eye for a player, please, PLEASE Mr Moxey and Mr Morgan back the manager or let somebody else run the club with the clubs interest and not the OWNERS interest. It seems we can invest in HOUSES but not in good players.
Anyone watch Vokes for Burnley yesterday?????????
Never mind Vokes- Leon Clarke is better than anything Wolves have got.
To loose to virtually the last kick of the game after totally dominating the game is hard to take but Gillingham set up with two banks of four to frustrate us and it worked because we haven’t got a creative midfielder and a striker to convert good approach play.
KJ needs to supplement his excellent signings so far but in a high inflation transfer market it’s open to debate to find out what Morgan and Moxey will decide.
I have been thinking more about this match and the effect the small pitch had on our performance. We usually like to play on bigger pitches where the wingers can do their work. On smaller pitches the wingers are more restricted and have to come inside more of the time. Not an excuse but I think these small grounds just do not suit us.
I will shut up now….
You’re probably right about the wingers needing some width because we have very little creativity in the centre. McDonald is being forced to play too deep and despit all the tinkering KJ hasn’t hit on the right partnership in the centre of midfield, as he hasn’t up front. We’ve looked devoid of a plan B all season, problem is that now even plan A looks shit!
Unfortunately Moxey and Morgan ‘s first frame of reference for any decision is not investment in the future but cost cutting in the here and now. Do not expect any incomings until there are outgoings in january and then only expect very modest outlay. In the same way that we didn’t invest when we escaped relegation narrowly on two occasions in the PL, M & M will try and get promotion on the cheap. The ” just enough” mentality is why we are where we are and will see us in the play offs rather than automatic promotion . Sad, pathetic but true. How much more evidence does any Wolves fan with a single brain cell need to know that the ultimate decision makers at wolves are full of shit and simply do not have the competence or desire to make us anything than footballing also rans?
Regrettably what you say is true. I don’t doubt that Morgan wants Wolves to be in the Premiership but he just isn’t prepared to pay for it.
He didn’t invest the last two seasons when we were in relegation trouble either and the result was two relegations.
Unfortunately, he always takes the short term view regarding finances and cannot see that a relatively small outlay now could save or make more money later.
Sir Jack said that Morgan had had a heart transplant re Wolves and Liverpool. I’ve news for Sir Jack – the transplant failed.
I would sell Sako and Ziggy and get Clarke from Cov or Thomas from Bristol City or BOTH!

Hennessey has apologised and according to the Wolves, will face internal disciplinary procedures. Hopefully a more realistic bid can come in and he can bugger off along with Johnson hopefully going to West Ham on loan.
Unfortunately, expecting Moxey to be prepared or to move quickly in the market is never ever going to happen, he considers it beneath his dignity and is totally committed to his ego. The reason they are quiet is that they think the initial success we have had this season so far is quite enough to keep us happy. As previously stated I have seen nothing so far that convinces me we will go up. Meanwhile we are still carrying all that expensive baggage from his previously disasterous decisions. I am really concerned that previously reasonable players go of the boil with us, and yet refind form elsewhere. How good and complete is our coaching staff, is there a lot of penny pinching going on behind the scenes. Its all been said before but the Moxey method simply is not working it is time he paid the price. I know he balances the books and we are not in the mess Bolton is in but not every small team in the Prem is on the verge of going bust. Look at the fans support against orient, that shows what support there is with product and good commercial promotion. By every measure Moxey continues to fail.
Just looking at the transfers and I see Orient have got in 3 loan signing in the last couple of days from premier clubs, how many have we got nowt,so come on Jackett get dealing for a couple strikers and a attacking midfielder…NOW before PNE Come calling,DO WHAT IT IS YOUR PAID FOR.
CAN’T AFFORD TO LOSE THIS ONE…
That’s the difference between the two clubs – one has ambition. They are up there and intend staying there.
Well johnok .. If that’s the case, and I’ve no reason to doubt you, it just further proves that our “structure” just does not work.. it’s laboured, unresponsive and far too restrictive.
Then again Moxey wouldn’t have it any other way.. Having total control over footballing matters.. This set up fools no-one. AND AS LONG AS WE’RE FOLLOWING THE MOXEY METHOD I’M AFRAID WERE **CKED!!

Only saw the highlights of the game & listened on WM, it seems we were lucky as they hit a post when Batth was beaten, and we had a few chances to score but yet again didn’t.
For me not panicking as yet, but I just wish that KJ would stick with his front men & leave them to play, surely Griffiths has to play from the start of every game. I’d put Doyle up there with him as that partnership has resulted in most of the points we have got thus far.
Don’t over complicate things, keep it simple. I just think he’s in danger of undermining the confidence of the forwards. And as talented as Sako, is at times, I think playing Henry & Jacobs wide would make more sense while we seem to have the jitters.
Sako can be prone to errors leading to assists for the opposition to score. We need to be more solid at the moment and cannot afford losing the ball in key areas & also wasting possession up front when he blazes over.
Is this the first time a league one club has loaned a player to the premier league ? Couldnt our self proffessed arch negotiater get a fee. Its beginning to look a total mess again ? Still no indication why KJ has only started our leading goal scorer once in the last 5 games when noone else is scoring regularly or hardly at all come to that. The longer we are in this league the more we are going to look and become a league one team. Why is Morgan holding back ? In short what the feck is going on ?
First Jarvis and now Johnson – thank you West Ham.
Maybe big Sam will sign O’Hara next as he is clearing out the shit ready for when he takes over from KJ!
Just heard west ham fan on radio ‘why we got Relegation Roger we goin darrnn’…yep.
Totally changing the subject, they made a big splash in the Electronic Telegraph this morning about Christine Ronaldo scoring the 400th goal of his career last night.
Big deal.
Barcelona 5, Villa 9, Spurs 8, Arsenal 6, Everton 5, Citeh 5, the shit 4, Juventus 3, Man U 2, Bayern 2, Liverpool 2.
Those are the so called big clubs he has scored against, but guess what?
The little greaseball aint not never scored against The Mighty Wolves!!
So, he is not so good then, eh?
Hope the floods are receeding over there, we got lottsa cold here in Houston, gonna have to find my long sleeved t shirts and dark shorts!!
FOwb
And the scarf I trust!!
Nah, it seems it was nicked by fat, bald Scooped while he was over here !!
It must have been our defense that confused him.
Cold in Houston Clive, itsd minus 20 C up here.
Which part of NY are you?
We are considering a trip up that way in the summer, and I would love to shout “fuck off w…b… ” with you!!
Clive we are near Rochester NY.
Finger Lakes and Wine country just to the south. Niagara Falls 2hrs away,
Decent real Brit Pub with Brit staff, English Pork Pir C just down the road again Brit run and great pies. if you come dont tell Moxpox.
Would love to sing nasty Albion tunes with ya.
The reason we have no one coming in or any loans lined up is that management is totally pre-occupied with trying to move on and cut losses on previous big time mistakes. I would like to think Moxeys job might be on the line over it. Like Morgan has told him get this lot cleaned up without it costing me a penny. Some hopes. I still have faith in KJ but choose your strikers and stick with them and stop trying to justify what we know you can not change.
Orient have signed 3 or 4 reserve PL players on loan
We are signing reserve championship players for £200,000
And whats happened to the Kevin Phillips story.. All Gone away.
The club are letting us down again !!
For me it is the Board.
There is something terribly wrong.
Players leave and play well for other clubs, Vokes, Shackell, Jones et al.
Others are disgruntled, O Hara, Hennessey, Sako, Ziggy, Cassidy, Griffiths, they are not bad players it is just that something at Wolves puts them off and it cannot be that Solbakken, Mc Carthy, Saunders, Jackett are all bad managers. I think it is those above them dictating a money before football policy. It restricts the managers and de motivates the players or their salary/contract dictates their playing time.
We need someone with more money than sense, like the new owners of Cardiff and Fulham. Morgan and Moxey financially cannot compete and are doing a Bhatti Bros.
Great report Ben, thanks was out of Internet contact in stormy Wales.
Happy new Year everyone….
Putting aside the relative doom and gloom of the last couple of weeks, I am well pleased with the news this morning that Jacobs has been signed on a two and a half year contract.
With good luck and a following wind this lad could become a top player for us.
Well done Kuddly Ken!
Forgot to say that the only slight worry is that we repeat the Jamie O’Hara debacle:-
Plays great while on loan
Gets signed
Plays like a drain.
But I think Jacobs is a different character.
I’m optimistic.
Has Mr Stephen George Bull MBE got a son of playing age yet?
UTW/FOWB
This is the lowest point I’ve ever seen Wolves reach. A shamefully awful tv appearance halfway through their most embarrassing season in decades. Scary shit, in more ways than one…
Something’s definitely up with Griffiths. He probably wants out, cant blame him. Whatever it is, there’s no way KJ can’t see that he’s the key to scoring goals.
Why is it that the only people who seem to know what Wolves really need are the fans? The loyal bunch who go home and away every week. It has become so obvious week in week out that, although Wolves have a strong team, they are lacking a good strong striker to finish the job off. OK we have Griffiths, but he has been left on the bench quite often recently and only brought on at the last minute. There are players out there happy to be transferred from their clubs (or at least there were!). By the time Wolves get round to buying anybody, most of the good players have been snapped up by other clubs. When are Morgan and Moxey going to realise that to get quality you have to act fast. I don’t include Kenny Jacket in this because, after all, he isn’t even the Manager and I believe whatever he thinks, his hands are tied. Please don’t let our beginning of season lead slip and see us stay in this division for another season. We need to get back in the Championship where we belong.
