What a difference two weeks can make.
It wasn’t so long ago we were heading into fixtures against Ipswich and Rotherham with little (if any) confidence about our prospects.
Now, after two excellent performances against talented opposition, the urge to look up the table rather than over our shoulders is beginning to return.
Paul Lambert deserves credit for masterminding this turnaround in form, though the measures he’s taken to achieve it are fairly simplistic.
When you field your best attacking players and play others in their correct position, a positive outcome is more likely to be received than if you’d done otherwise.
Take the reigns off this Wolves team and they’re a match for any team in this division.
Fulham (an excellent side, by the way) were cut open with regularity yesterday, particularly down the flanks where Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro were back to their diminutive best.
It’s taken this writer some time to warm to the latter but we’re undoubtedly a better side with him than we are without.
That’s an assertion Costa is sure to agree with, given that he seems to benefit from Cavaleiro’s presence more than any other player.
With two buccaneering wingers to focus on (not to mention Ben Marshall and Andi Weimann), teams can’t afford to double up on Costa the way they were a few weeks back.
That gives him the freedom to run at teams and, as Fulham’s full backs found out yesterday, damage them.
If we can keep both players fit and focused over the summer then next season could be mightily enjoyable, providing the spine of the team is also improved.
Given the mooted interest in Costa from a number of Premier League sides, that could prove a difficult ask.
For now though, let’s savour this most satisfying of weeks and hope that it’s the beginning of a strong end to the season.

Thanks rasmin, your fourth paragraph pretty much says everything
It would be great if we resist cashing in on costa and build around him.utmw
Wonderful result. Now lets just keep the consitency and level of performance and hope that PL does not tinker with the team
Can’t over emphasise how big a victory this is both as a a platform for some consistency and a chance for Lambert to get a better idea where his side needs radical strengthing Against a useful Fulham team who are transformed from the side who started the season my choice as potentially a struggler in this league No Brighton but nevertheless a good scalp and it’s always nice to serve the west London press a taste of humble pie Onwards and hopefully Upwards a couple of results like this in the coming weeks and we can all look forward to a summer we’re a serious attempt is made to form a promotion winning side Its what dreams are made of
A great win and perhaps a little bit of consistency coming into view. I can’t wait till Jordan Graham is pushing for a place too, hoping of course he is as fit as he was before his injury.
Nice Tweet from Richard Osman yesterday by the way. “Well played today Wolves, great fans too. How the hell are you 16th?”.
Two great away results, well done to PL and the players. Now for an equally difficult challenge- turning home form around against an extremely shrewd championship manager with the visit of Neil warnock’s cardiff. If we can crack home form we should get the three wins we probably need to be safe pretty quickly. That would be the ideal because, the majority of the teams at the bottom, apart from Rotherham and Wigan, seem to be in reasonable form and picking up points with some consistency. The clock is ticking with games running out and no team in the mix can afford to lose 3 games on the bounce now, otherwise they might find there is no chance to recover the ground. Come on wolves, let’s not go to the Bristol game right back in the mix please!
Nice write up Ben. Sounds like a proper team performance.
Not before time.
The right team.
The correct tactics.
Players playing in their best positions.
This management business is a piece of cake isn’t it?
And what a delicious Molineux made cake this turned out to be yesterday.
A nice slice of it each week until May will do and then let’s get baking an even better one with improved, added ingredients to feast on next season.
To hell with the diet!
What a performance!
Certainly, relieved my personal fears about being schizoid…
Let’s face it, the difference in performance from Rotherham to Fulham, defines schizophrenia…
One extreme to the other.
Did the team have group ECT prior to Brentford with follow up ‘alternative group therapy’ before Fulham?
For me the aim should be to stay up this season and nothing more.
It looked wobbly at first, but Weimann & Marshall have been good additions and complement Cav & Costa well.
We have a front four now that are just beginning to gel.
If, in the summer, Lambert were to add say 3 equally as shrewd signings, and hang on to Costa & Cav, then next year, we could be putting in a serious promotion challenge…
Where are my pills?
Wow! 3-1 away against Fulham is a pretty strong result. Before the match they were mentioned as the strongest team in the league. Great trophy! :=))))
I’m a bit worried we’ll lose them both. They have some impressing stats, and if they and the team continue to play good football, I’m sure they’ll end up on some of the big clubs shopping list. How far is the board willing to go to keep these players at the club? And will Sako return if one or both are sold?
Weimann does his job well and could end up at the club permanently – if he continues to bang them in. We’ve been linked to an african prolific striker also.
I agree. But one of the key issues is that these last two games the team was actually set up to try to win, rather than not to lose. The introduction of Cav in the number 10 role was inspirational. Free from defensive duties and given the obvious brief to simply attack, he caused mayhem in the Fulham ranks, and how the others benefited. Costa and Cav complement each other enormously, and see the difference in Weiman. This positive, attacking team selection must surely be the blue print for the coming games
Defied expectations I thought we were so bad against Rotherham, Wigan & Blues that league 1 beckoned.
But a different side has been metamorphised from the detritus of the shambles I’ve witnessed this season at the Golden Palace!
Please continue this away form at home. There does now seem to be promise in the attacking options! Weimann after looking bland looks to be a genuine player.
Dangerous Dave Edwards comes up trumps yet again. A club legend? Well for me yep, but I’d wager 50 per cent of my fellow Wolves fans wouldn’t concur!
Will renew my season ticket now as I’m reasonably confident we’ll stay up & next season we should be in with a shout of the play offs at least.
But it’s the Wolves & it’s such an uncertain world. Anything could happen, that’s why the owners need to back Lambert in a very logical & clear sighted way. Hopefully he knows what’s needed for Championship domination. Up the Wolves!
As far as Dangerous Dave being a legend is concerned 100% of this fellow Wolves fan concurs Mate!
Likewise with me gentlemen. So that’s 200% already and you’ve hardly started.
Count me in: one man’s headless chicken is another man’s player who gives 100%.
Count me out 100%. Wright, Cullis, Dougan, Bailey, Hibbitt, Wagstaffe, Knowles, Bull – and a few more – were legends. Edwards is a totally committed, non-stop, hard working, loyal, closer-down who can chip in with a few goals – all great qualities I agree – and who, if played in the right position or introduced at the right time, can be effective. However for all his attributes he can’t trap or control a ball or rifle one in from 25 yards or make a killer defence splitting pass – and with him being played out of position in the ‘number 10’ role so often this has exposed his limitations – so for me he is definitely not a legend. We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one but isn’t that what makes football and Wolves so great? On the train to Fulham yesterday we were ‘debating’ whether Derek Parkin was better at right-back, which is what he was when we signed him, or left-back, which is where he ended up playing for most of his Wolves career. We didn’t agree on that one either!
Edwards has been very lucky. No chance would his mug make a legends montage. As enforcement yesterday. Brilliant performance from the team. Marshall deserves a few plaudits for some sublime long passes. He does look quality.
I think PL has had the same problem as WZ, too many players to choose from chopping and changing teams from week to week, but I do like his no frills style not getting carried away with a run of results be they good or bad. I think his job is now safe so let’s see what he can make of this squad plus and minus a few players over the next twelve months.
It’s a bit early to say that Mickeyt. Indifferent form from here on in and he could still be feeling the big ‘E’.
I’m not so sure: http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/03/19/report-wolverhampton-wanderers-want-oscar-garcia-or-paulo-sousa/
If Lambert win all the remaining fixtures and still being replaced, what would you feel then?
It is possible, and a lot of fans would have a lot of mixed feelings about it (if we win the remaining fixtures). We could end up playing a completely different style of football. There’s no doubt that the candidates are top notch though, and with the players we have, it will probably not mean a lot result wise. Who knows? And that’s the problem, the uncertainty. If Fosun decides to ring changes I’m sure the new manager will receive a hefty transfer budget.
Needs more than a couple of good games (that’s all it is at this time) to convince me about Lambert. He’s had too many shockers to forget about just yet. Let’s see where we are come May. If we finish top 10 with some excellent performances like the last two then he must be given a chance unless someone too good to turn down wants the job. A mixed bag and lower mid table or worse then he got to goo! Yesterday was good though. Enjoyed it immensely, especially a chat with a 22 year old Man U supporting steward , hailing from the East End who thought George Best was English and had not heard about Eric Cantona! George Best and Fulham then got me thinking about 76-77 and our 5-1 victory at Molineux! Must have been those thoughts that transcended onto the pitch!
What’s positive is that it should be easier to improve the stats at home than away. According to this site: https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/7/England-Championship we’re the fifth best team away. I think our style of play almost guarantee lots of points away from home.
The players understands Lambert’s philosophy now. If we get a new coach it could take the players a couple of months to adapt. We went from Jacketts solid defensive game to Zenga’s leaking defensive game.
A great all round performance by a team suddenly transformed. Congratulations to all involved, but not least to Paul Lambert who latterly has come in for much criticism.
What the man has shown is that he can identify players of quality. Both Weiman and Marshall are now proving to be excellent additions to the squad. I for one would rather have Mr Lambert identify any summer additions than have to rely on the idiot Thelwell, who would be guaranteed to bring in yet more mediocrity.
But a word of caution to Mr Lambert. The last two performances have clearly shown the great need for players to be selected in their proper positions. Weiman, as an out and out attacker, is an entirely different proposition to the Weiman selected to play out wide simply to accommodate the very modest under-performing Dicko in the side. Please: no more square pegs in round holes.
Did not expect that. Even though we had previously beaten Brentford I did not expect us to carry on and get a victory against a decent Fulham side.
But what do I know? Only that Wolves continue to surprise me when they win and when they loose.
PL’s signings have proved to be excellent, Marshall, now fit, is looking to be a player who has skill, insight and the ability to provide that killing pass/ball. Wiemann is full of energy and has the technical ability to cause defences a lot of problems.
Playing Cav in the no 10 position looks like it worked well yesterday.
Not forgetting Dangerous Dave, who I do like a lot, I was hard at him for not being more technical in his footballing skills but is now our leading scorer. Top man.
A very good overall team performance.
Wolves must now prove they can be consistent and climb away from the drop. After their recent results that seems to be very doable.
I was lucky enough to meet the players before the game. Great lads , every one of them. I had a nice chat with Dave Edwards about home form versus away form and it is something he is clearly focusing on. We might see immediate improvement at the Mol. I know Dangerous has his detractiors but to my mind he is the complete modern professional, in the mould of Martin Peters of West Ham. This is part of the conundrum of Dave Edwards that it’s difficult to see exactly where he fits in with any team on a team sheet, but on the field he just ghosts into position. I told him that every team needs a Dave Edwards.
I’ve never seen my Fulham mates so shell shocked. They knew they had been turned over by a better team on the day. When they took KMac off at half time I thought they would bring fat Chris Martin on. No they said, hes’s useless! (How many of us wanted to sign Chris Martin?).
Amazingly none of the fans knew the first thing about Costa. Their rookie left back was getting slaughtered. Obviously Fulham couldn’t double man-mark Costa as they were leaking all over the place, and this allowed Costa to cause mayhem. We didn’t just counter attack after getting pegged in, we were just going for it. It was end to end stuff. Many superb forward passes were wasted and we could have doubled the score on another day.
Isn’t it great to see favourable posts again!
I’m sure anyone that has been supporting WWFC for just a couple of years, now knows the highs & lows available to us in less than a couple of weeks.
I also won’t harp on about the first win (last Sat), but the last 2 have been literally out of this world.
When trying to analyse why this can occur I just cannot come up with any suitable rational with the exception of Pegs being square & round. I’m also convinced PL has never attempted to put out a team to play dire football & lose – but playing Square/Round Pegs will always get the blood pumping with the faithful – also my old boss used to say “do what you say” and therefore “front foot” should mean going for it.
So now it’s got to be onwards and upwards…. with a couple of thank you’s
1 to PL – credit where it is due
2 to the players – everyone of them
3 to Cav thanks for quickly getting back into a team that needed your presence
4 to Super Dave Edwards – your song will remain on the terraces for some time
5 to Costa – note to Costa – please don’t go, this could be special…… 🙂
6 to the fans – getting something to cheer about will get more through the turnstiles and being entertained will reap its own rewards.
Many have said that “on our day” well we once again proved that in the 2 games – lets ensure our Chumpionship survival in the next 3 or 4 games, then this will allow PL to tinker for next year – give the kids a run out, ensure we know who stays and who goes in the summer and bring in a few more to bolster this “front foot” team
FOstfc
Comeeeeeeeeeee Onnnnnnnnnnnn Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Wolvesssssssssssssssssssssssssss
You guys get all excited when we win a few and all upset when we lose a few.
Let’s wait until we play consistently for a more lengthy run of games.
I’m sure we played well for 3 or 4 games under Walter, too.
Tim, I get your point, but I think you’ll find post on here were still upset after the first 2 games of this unbeaten run
Rotherham was probably the worst game I’ve seen us play in for a couple of years (and I have seen some sh1te in the last 2 years….)
I don’t think anyone will expect us to win every game now and we never really turn the corner, we just stay on a roundabout…..
These last 2 wins have seen us finally play players in their correct positions and on the front foot. We had been promised front foot for the last 5/6 games and only now we see the fruits of playing our game rather than worry about our opponents.
Yo, Debbie Downer, are you Amanda in disguise?
Don’t you go hurting anyone’s feelings on here Clive, you know how fragile and sensitive they all are.
Must be Southerners.
You do make me laugh, Stu
That’s because “us guys” are fans and show passion when we win and when we lose. Nothing wrong with that in my book.
My first visit to the Cottage & a seriously good day out (& as a resident of the West Country this was a lot nearer than a home game!). An iconic stadium which seemed to have more soul than the usual out of town bowls in a retail park far from anything useful that many teams have gone to.
Decent pub in ‘The Crabtree’ (apart from the predilection for serving beer in plastic glasses – though it didn’t seem to be the sort that needed that, & I have been in some that should) & not overly crowded probably due to the fact that its 10 mins walk past the ground so many of our lot would have piled into the first place that let them in.
As for the game – was never in doubt. Fulham were pretty but totally ineffective. Playing 4 actual attacking players caused them so many problems that they will have a headache this morning. Edwards playing in his right position which still gives him scope to arrive at the right time.
10 points from the last 12 have probably pulled us out of trouble now – Rotherham are gone with the last rites having been performed, Wigan have both feet on the trapdoor so only leaves 1 place to go with 5 other sides worse off than us (Birmingham will be getting worried)
PLF,
Great point about the ground, supporting Wolves for 55 years the name Craven Cottage is ingrained into the brain as an iconic ground. Look at West Ham when we played them in the cup last year, it was an amazing atmosphere with a good contingent of Wolves fans making it a good old fashioned cup tie. Now the poor buggers are stuck out at the Olympic park and are suffering to get the “right type” in to their games.
Chelsea and Man City are the same with their clinical grounds, Mourinho got slated for asking the fans to up the noise, but he was right.
Our success away from home is a down to the fan base that follow the team through thick and thin, away they are a solid unit all singing and cheering en-bloc. At home we are all in our season ticket spots and scattered wherever we have our seats and so on some occassions it seems a bit like an Albion game. I understand the need for safety being paramount but it has taken some of the atmosphere away and perhaps that’s why we seem muted at times.
Great performance and result and one that I must admit I wasn’t expecting. Having Cavaleiro back certainly seems to have helped Costa get back on form and I liked the interplay between the front four players.
On the point of players in their correct positions it also frustrates me when players are played out of position but in defence of Lambert I think he had little choice owing to injuries and some inconsistent performances from other players.
Hopefully we can keep a settled squad for the rest of the season and if we can overcome the bugbear of our home form build some momentum to carry into the summer. Although being Wolves I’m sure there will still be plenty of ups and downs between now and May.
What a performance another fantastic win.
Why have we taken so long to get going(no complaints mind) but I knew we had the players to make a fist of it in this league, it’s all about playing the quality players in their right positions.
2 more wins should settle things imo.
Still not sure if we can keep costa and cab, but I really hope so and build a team around them.
PL finally seems to have found the right formula even though it’s a bit late.
Not sure if pL will be at the helm next term Fosun can’t be happy to be where we are, so I think changes are afoot next season.
Great result, well done everyone involved.
Having now watched goals 1 and 3 many times over, I still haven’t worked out how Costa managed it. For goal 1 the effects is as though someone edited out about half a second of the recording …. one minute he’s behind the defender who looks to have an easy chance to control the ball and clear and then there’s a jump cut and he’s in front with the ball at his feet getting ready to put Cav in. Goal 3 is similar5 … he looks to have only a 50-50 chance of keeping the ball from the pass to him but he does and then ambles steadily to the goal line then up into the six-yard box to set up Dangerous. Absolutely amazing, and he never looks to be doing anything complicated. As my old boss used to say – “success is largely a matter of doing the simple things well”. I think he was right. Onwards and upwards!!
Stu – my first game would have been 57 yrs ago – don’t remember much about it as I was young & age dims the memory.
As a (hated) southerner I became a Wolves fan in 1959 as spent 3 mths up there with a relative when I was 9 (think my mother was ill).
Haven’t been able to shake off the association since then – now days Social Services would be called in for child cruelty!!
PLF – reminds me of the old joke. Dad to his misbehaving young son at Molineux, “if you don’t behave you’ll be sorry – I’ll bring you here again”.
Nawwww.
Some of the nicest people on this blog are Southerners, just banter.
Know what you mean about social services though, I drag my two grandsons along and on occassion I feel guilty, still I suppose it beats smacking them.
There is constant talk about Costa leaving in the summer.
Fosun are not in this for a quick buck, they are in it for the kudos of quality, Prem football, and the bragging rights of being up there with the so called big boys.
A few million profit for selling him is chump change, and will not be in their thoughts.
He is a star who can shine on the bigger stages, see Liverpool cup game, and Fosun will not sell him.
Also, there is a little thing called a contract, which he can and should be made to honour.
Also, also, there has been zippo word from him about wanting a move.
So, lets be happy we have him, knowing how devastating he is, and lets tell anyone supposedly sniffing around to fuck off.
Brilliant result yesterday, shit eating grin firmly back in place………apart from that puke green kit.
Big FO to the shit
If it wasn’t for the release 13 million release clause he has…
Just thinking something similar Clive.
For me a test of Fosun’s commitment is ensuring Cav & Costa stay.
In the past 15 years they would be sold.
If they stay & Lambert brings in another 3 shrewd equivalences to Marshall & Weimann…
Then the Premiership would be beckoning.
Yeah, can you imagine greasel keeping a 25 plus million asset?
He would be having organisms!!
Great performance, result and day out. Lovely food, beer, red wine and company. Perfect Saturday really.
The key here was in the team selection and system employed.
With Saville finally dropped it meant Edwards was played deeper alongside Evans where his undoubted attributes of boundless energy and non-stop running can be effective and we were then able to play a creative, flair footballer in the number 10 role behind the striker.
A real 4231 system that works, much like we used for most of December e.g. Forest away, rather than the far less effective 433 used of late with a midfield three comprised entirely of grafters, workers and runners.
So well done Mr Lambert. My praise is tinged with some regret however as if PL had had the courage and vision to realise this for the Reading and Ipswich games we could easily now be basking in the reflected glory of five consecutive wins. Oh well, never mind.
Five games in a row for me and 10 points -promotion form! – which before the Reading game looked unlikely. Back then we’d probably have been expecting 4 or 5 points from those games.
If only we can now show this kind of form at Molineux. On away form only we would be 5th and yet on home form only we’d be 22nd which is crazy. PL now needs to earn his money by finding the right system to play in home games which is especially true given that 6 of our remaining 9 games are at home.
P.S. Our atrocious neon lime green kit is bad enough but when their keeper is wearing a very similar neon yellowy-green outfit it is quite confusing especially after a few drinks!
Out of darkness Cometh light.
I’m getting very emotional here….a fantastic 10 point haul from 12 ..and the next game I will see is Preston at home ..last match.
Well done to the lads … Dangerous Dave , Costa and Cav, Marshall, Doherty and the rest of my heroes.
I shall miss you Bloggers too btw… especially CFH, Bedford, DOOGooder’s and Stuey…..as I’m off to Kiwi country for a month.
I’ll FaceTime you bastids in the middle of the night just to annoy you.
Oh forgot …Chalkie, LWL, aAmanda, BOG, Wolfstroker, Thomas, Ben, Scooped, Big Mark, Lambo….
A huge FOWB when I get there……
Have a great time ‘darn under’ and hope the Tubular Bells tour goes well. See you 6th May at APV – get those drinking trousers on young man!
We’re sure to miss you too Twix. But we’ll manage, and my guess is that once you get to that lovely land, you’ll forget all about us, even if you don’t forget your team.
See you v Preston.
Have a great time Twix – I thoroughly enjoyed New Zealand.
Lovely country.
I am sure you will have a wonderful holiday
BOG
Give our regards to Middle Earth and have a ‘thimply thpiffing’ time Mike and Lilian.
By the time you’re back we’ll be in a play off position.
Not to early mate, it confuses my Grandson, he still can’t get his head round it being 9am tomorrow when it’s still today, today in sunny Wolvo and you ain’t fallen off the underside of the World.
Have a great trip buddy, but get yer arse back here for the 6th May at the PVH. Xx
I saw my very first live game of football at Craven Cottage on Saturday 23rd April 1961.
My grandad was a Fulham fan and lived in London.
I saw Johnny Haynes just before he became the first £100 a week footballer and Jimmy Hill in his last season before he retired from playing.
Funnily enough, on the same day, Wolves were just up the road thrashing Arsenal 5-1.
And I never knew.
Small World DOOGooder – I was at Arsenal for that 5-1 game.
Bloody hell!
Small World indeed.
Just thinking that we all take the possibility of travelling to away games for granted these days, but back in 1961 not everyone had a car (and if you did they weren’t particularly reliable), the train service was fairly chaotic, there weren’t that many motorways, no GPSs – can’t have been easy.
I agree WJ – in 1961, if you had a car, the roads weren’t much fun and the trains, though relatively cheaper than today, could be dire. I travelled regularly on Sundays during the electrification period, you were never sure which way the diversions would take you – or for how long.
Another factor with away games seems to me to be that the first division teams were grouped better. In 1960-61 e.g. in the North Easterly direction there was only Newcastle. They were relegated that season and Sunderland stayed in Div2 so there were no trips to the NE in 1961-2. In Lancashire Preston, Burnley, Blackburn, Bolton Everton, Man C, Man U were all in Div1. In the Midlands Birmingham, Villa, WBA, Nottm F and Leicester were there, and in London Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham and Fulham. That’s 17 out of the 21 other teams in Div1. No trips to Southampton, Bournemouth, Swansea, Hull.
I was lucky with my visits to London, I got to Arsenal, Chelsea West Ham and Fulham while I was spending part of each year on an apprenticeship only 30 miles from Central London.
Great blog – enjoyed reading about yesteryear probably because I can remember it……
I feel the most important difference between the pre and post Rotherham performances, is the return to fitness of Cav and Marshall, who clearly wasn’t match fit previously. This has given opposition defences far more than just Costa to worry about and therefore Helder has found far more freedom to operate. Cav too has come back in electric form and with the tireless Weimann our front four looks terrifying for most Championship defences.
As for Costa’s future, I agree that Fosun will be in no hurry to sell for financial reasons. If he does leave, and I don’t think I could bear it, not for one second, even just the thought of it. But if he does leave, it’ll be because he wants to and if his heart isn’t in it, then he won’t be worth a light to us. One unhappy player can destroy the whole team ethic. It would break my very heart. A world class (no, I don’t think that’s an exaggeration) world class player, here, with us, at the Mol’. How long since we’ve had one of those?
Happy days!
From what I’ve read then Costa’s contract release fee is £25m – can see us being tested in the summer (though not by the bigger teams despite reports that Chelsea & Arsenal have been watching him) – can see someone like Southampton or Everton coming in for hi, & that price is not expensive in Premier League teams.
If its anyone below that level then he would be better of staying as all are as likely to get relegated. Depends whether he can be persuaded that the will is there to bring in others of similar quality to him
I said a couple of months ago that the fee should have been at least £40 million. As you quite rightly say £25 million is chump change to the premier league. It will be the same old same old if he goes which I think is nailed on certainty. We will have done what we have done before and let our best and most promising players leave, because it’s all about money, sad but true. I will wait another half dozen games before judging PL wait and see. Our best run for ages has come from somewhere, but can we keep it up for just a few more games, let’s hope so.
I disagree. Promotion and a stay in the prem is worth so much more to Fosun than a quick buck selling Costa.
NEXT?
Been extremely unsure about our consistency, or should I say lack of. I am chuffed the way we have been playing, and the last three results, but I am still unsure and am just hoping we continue doing what we are currently doing. As long as PL does not mess around with his team now, I am sure we will be okay . But …………. I am not getting too excited.
So. The day began at 6:00 when the taxi arrives to take us to the station (Friday night beer sacrificed). Train arrives Euston and on tube to Hammersmith. Arrive 9:10. Spoons -beers- next spoons up the road-beers- back to tube via 2 or 3 pubs. Arrive Putney Bridge. Tour about-beers- chatting to some Fulham blokes in bar- nice blokes- they were kind enough to mention the likes of Billy Wright , The Doog, Johnny Richards. They also had a laugh that we had been on the beer since 9am. So on to the match. Brilliant. Fulham play some lovely football and we worked very hard to limit many clear cut chances. Whilst ruthlessly dispatching our own. Wieman/Marshall really coming in to their own. Costa/Cav outstanding. What a week. 3 wins in a row. Is that our best run of the season? The only thing that ruined the day was Smethwick Town winning and England losing to Ireland. Finally got back home after more beers about midnight. Totally knackered pissed but happy. What a day. Two more wins and a couple of draws should do it. Oh and good to see PL smiling again. Lets hope we can kick on for the rest of the season and get to about 60 points.
I bet not many predicted that score, just hope we don’t lose the mojo over the international break.
Looks like PL finally found the key to the safe so he could display the treasures inside. If we can keep this form going this time next year “Well be Millionaires”
PL and the team are now doing their bit. Its up to us fans now to do ours.
In Costa and Cav we have some highly talented players who can change a game in seconds. This type of player needs a high level of inner confidence to perform at 100%
We also have younger less talented players desperately trying to meet our expectations.
Therefore they need our full support and not feel like every mistake is a disaster neither do they need booing at half time if the result is not going for us. Perhaps that’s why we’re performing so well away from home at present.
Let’s be true supporters not critics and I’m sure this good run will get even better.
A nonchalant PL when interviewed as if he’s saying -what was the problem?..I’m pleased for him as he was probably 2 loosing games away from being buried..’just like at Villa’ etc
We systematically destroyed Fulham as if we were league leaders just like as if we are in a parallel universe ….truely wtf…
Costa was so brilliant he must be causing interest with the big boys Weimann doing his bit too for Lambert so what ( was )the problem?
I can’t explain it other than Q now how many new players we need..That no 5 IMO but then what?
Fantastic, fantastic, climb out of oblivion with this result..and I’ll Never understand Wolves
who ever is the manager or owners..
Roll on nxt season..I think.. lol
Yes PL blags it but he has got something. I felt strangely confident about this one though i didnt turn up on the predictions (story of my season). Back to PL reminds me a little of McCarthy but he has certain advantages – less predictable and less likely to get stuck with favourites of limited ability. If he pulls us clear give him the pre-season and see where we are at the end of august ?
Speculation on the net that they are still trying to find a replacement for PL. The names the names have got a fashionable sound but it would be grossly stupid. I am sure he can mount a challenge next season if not the same names names will still be very available.
Colin,
Iv’e been following this one with interest, all the reports lead back to ……..”The Sun”
Anyway how are you Colin.
Ok thanks mate hoping to make end of season bash. Dont read the Sun anymore just the Stu !
I’m sure not everyone would agree, but I only hope Fosun have learned from the huge mistake they made by sacking a certain Mr Jackett. The grass isn’t always greener.
Stop it!
Next you’ll be wanting Bill McGarry digged up!
Wow, you’re right Clive. Did he have a son at all?
supporting Wolves brings home first hand what it is like to have a split personality.
whether it is Cavs return or Lambert found his team-tactics notepad, I dont know, but it i hard to beliebe that this is the same crop of players who ran out against Rotherham a week ago.
Credit given where it is due, good tactics and great performances by most of the side and suddenly you’re wondering what all the fuss was about.
After 6 straight defeats we were right to question Lamberts position. And two very good performances later we still have to question why he chose the players he did during that awful spell – when it it abundently clear (even from Zenga’s days) that our best for of defence is attack.
I would agree that we’l probbably lose Costa come season end, but if Fosun have ambition to be a premier league force we really cant be selling the few prem quality players we do have.
Lambert probably saved himself an early sacking with these two results, but I still think he wil be following Costa out the door come end of season.
On the positive, a returning Graham, with Weimann and Marshall really looking the business we do have some pretty lethal attacking players for next seasons campaign.
I’m not too concerned what happens with Jon Dadi, Dicko Mason… but I would give up all three for an experienced striker for next season… with Bright / Weimann playing in behind them
What a wonderful week for WWFC. Now lets get to safety, and start looking to fill the gaps for next season
UTW !
With all the euphoria following the great Fulham win there are the unsettling reports about Lambert’s future. Lambert was always my choice but he’s had a disappointing start (didn’t Fergie at Man U?). He’s turning things around and I believe will take us to the PL. But, Lambert is not a client of Mendes’ agency, and this may be crucial. If Lambert is to be replaced by a Mendes client I think Fosun will have learnt lessons from the Zenga debacle.
Costa must be odds-on to move in the summer for the rumoured release clause of £25mil. Imagine what Lambert could do with that £25mil, just for starters? Weimann and Marshall are his only acquisitions and they looked superior to any Fulham player on Saturday. It’s not necessary to pay mega-money. Kenny Jackett’s perennial pursuit of Chris Wood proves that. Wood would have cost us only peanuts, but he’s already up to 24 goals this season for Leeds.
Home form must be turned around. This may be the key to Lambert’s survival. It’s galling to think that our away form is top-six level but our home form is relegation standard. This is incredible. It is up to Lambert to prove his mettle now, home and away.
Really good points.
The home form issue may be ‘easier said than done’ to rectify, however; for whilst perceived “pressure” from the terraces is a factor, the main issue is that Lambert often sets us up to catch teams on the break – something teams are simply not going to allow us to do at home. He needs a plan B to break teams down when we are at home.
I’m amazed people give credibility to News paper stories.
Lambert took about three weeks to negotiate with Fosun.
Do people really think he negotiated a deal which didn’t, ( as long as we stay up), include a clause that gave him a chance to forge a team in the summer?
I am sure he didn’t, just as I am sure he told Fosun we would not go up this year.
The integrating of Weimann & Marshall into the team has been integral to our improvement as a team.
One part of me sees Lambert as potentially the best manager we have had this century.
Obviously, I didn’t think that after the Rotherham match.
It takes a lot of grit to make a pearl…..
It has ti be said Robin, ” he could be the best manager this Millennium in a few games time”
Problem is, there aint bin a lot of competition!
Not in the first 17 years of this millennium….
Just being optimistic Stu.
But I do think Lambert is ‘cannier’ than McCarthy, Jackett et al!
Fantastic win
Another 3 points, hope we lay off lambert now, I know it’s only 4 games without defeat but very important points we picked up.under pressure,
I have never slagged Pl off once just said I’m very disappointed to be a wolf, pissed off etc
I think we should give, him some credit, hopefully we kick on now get a settled team till the,end of the, season and Pl will no who stays and,who goes in the, summer
Up the wolves
I had a good feeling about this one as soon as I saw the team line-up. Set up to press high up the pitch and disrupt Fulham’s neat passing game, and with an emphasis on attacking players in attacking positions. More of the same please. Cardiff may be a bit difficult next time out, but Forest looked bereft of confidence against Derby at the w/e.
I predicted a 3-1 win after an exhaustive analysis of the form book……actually, remembering my first ever Wolves game when we beat Fulham at Craven Cottage ….3-1 in the autumn of 1960. Broadbent then….Costa now. 57 years of unalloyed joy being a Wolves fan. Splutter, choke, fall in a heap.
You sir are what is known as a proper football supporter. Loyal through thin and thin as I often say. Well done – our great club is only truly great because of fans like you and if the team were even half as good as our fans we’d be Premier League champions, Champions League winners, FA Cup winners and League Cup winners every season.
It was at Craven Cottage that Bulwer- Lytton wrote the Last Days of Pompeii and it was at Craven Cottage that could have been the last days of Paul Lambert – according to the reports I had read since returning from my global sojourn. Hells bells what on earth has been going on chaps?
My last fixture was about 3 months ago, indeed not long after PL had been appointed, and it appears since then home performances have been pathetic in the extreme whilst away from home it’s the exact opposite. Chuck in a couple of decent efforts in the FA cup and the Molineux topsy turvey season continues.
Having caught up with this blog and the one on the E and S the future of Mr Lambert has certainly polarised opinions amongst fans which makes the fall-out from Brexit look like a school playground tantrum.
On the train to Fulham Bedford Wolf kindly filled me in (if you get my drift) on the rubbish served up v Wigan, Burton, Birmingham City and Rotherham which served to dampen my spirits and faith in Mr Lambert but then lifted the mood with tales of stirring performances v Liverpool, Reading, Brentford and Stoke. The common thread being the crap was at home and the good was away!
Rhys Lightning chipped in accounts of Peter Broadbent, Stan Cullis, Mullen, Hancocks and Jesse Pye so all was well in my world. Chuck in an interesting chat with a Tottenham supporter on his way to a wedding and yup – I knew I was back home. (Incidentally the combined age of the three intrepid Bedford Wolves lads was 194 years).
So after a hearty meal and a few sherbets with some old school mates from Wolverhampton and Bedford Wolf’s nephew in my favourite London watering hole (The Red Lion twixt Downing Street and Parliament – ex gin palace) we headed to the game. Unfortunately our last port of call which was the Eight Bells near Putney Bridge underground was rammed and the bouncers refused us entry!
So we bounded off across Bishop Park and into the away end. Our beloved Wolves in that truly awful strip appeared to a resounding roar from the 2,400 or so away supporters – amazing support all things considered – and we had a football match.
Now forgive me for being somewhat over the top but I thought we were Tremendous – note the capital T. Each player slotted into their respective roles and performed with a passion and enthusiasm which took the collective wind out of the opposition sails.
Even before we took the lead Marshall forced a fine save when his low drive was pushed away at the foot of the post.
The two “C’s” played with a freedom that caused Fulham no end of problems and we took a deserved lead when Costa skinned the full back and slotted the pill neatly to Cavaleiro who drove it home. Cue bedlam in the away end.
Yes Fulham did create chances, I recall MacDonald almost doing what countless ex Wolves players have done in this and other seasons but his header went wide, but generally the defence and midfield sheltered Ikeme well.
Wolves attacked from the whistle in the second half and Weimann scored with a low drive into the net in front of the estatic away supporters – cannot remember much about the build-up.
A few minutes later Fulham pulled one back with what appeared to be a deflected effort but Costa again was the thorn in the Fulham defence when he sped down the right wing and pulled the ball back for Dave Edwards to finish it all off and we all went berserk. Game set and bloody match – another three points towards safety.
With what I would describe as a pretty well complete team performance choosing the MOTM was a dilemma but for me Costa shaded it.
Answer of the day
Bedford Wolf question – “who did Wolves beat in the semi-final of the 1971 Texaco Cup”?
Me “Derry City” jumping around outside the Red Lion – lord knows what the hordes of tourists thought.
Question of the day part 1 – Me “Name of Derry City stadium”?
Silence…………..
Me “Brandywell”.
Question of the day part 2
Bedford Wolf “Name the best-selling record of 1974”?
Me “Waterloo by Abba”.
Bedford Wolf “Nah – Tiger Feet by Mud so shut the fuck up”.
So it went on…….and on……….and on.
A thoroughly enjoyable day for all concerned – as regards to Mr Lambert well I would give him the summer to make his mark and at least a full season to implement his methods. He has only been in charge since November and even Midas would struggle to turn this club around in 16 weeks or so. I realise some of his team selections, line ups and tactics have perplexed and even annoyed a great number of supporters but we have had around seven managers and a couple of locums in the last 5 years so surely an injection of stability is called for. Even the likes of Messrs Shankly, Busby, Wenger, Ferguson et al needed time to influence matters and whilst Mr Lambert is nowhere near that level of ability it just highlights the need for a little patience. However these days in general owners of football clubs have absolutely no tolerance whatsoever and one has only to look at what happened at Birmingham City as the latest prime example of the crazy world of professional football.
No doubt I will get ripped apart for saying it and that’s fine as everybody is fully entitled to their opinion but……….please let’s give Mr Lambert a chance to prove his mettle.

Welcome back, BOG, hope your trip was miserable in the extreme!!
I shall be visiting Bedders the day before the Bloggers Ball, and he mentioned you might be up for a cup of tea.
Would love to meet up with you, if only to slap you upside the head for visiting places I wanna go to!!
Seriously, I bet it was the journey of a life time, ya bastid.
Hello Clive
It will be great to meet up.
You are more than welcome to have some scram at our humble abode but I am not sure what Bedford Wolf has lined up but I will check with him.
Promise not to mention the trip – however it was simply wonderful, we went to all sorts of exotic places such as …….oops sorry promised not to mention the trip.
See you in May
All the best
BOG
Clive – As a certain Mr Fawlty might say “don’t mention the cruise – I did once but I think I got away with it”.
What cruise, been somewhere nice BOG.
Just a quick jolly to Sydney from Southampton Stu, nothing too exotic. Managed 13 ports of call still nothing too exotic except for Tahiti, Barbados, Hawaii, Bora Bora whoops sorry Clive.
Then 2 weeks or so in Australia travelling around in a camper van, definitely not very exotic.
Can’t say too much for fear of upsetting Clive especially as we are planning a meet in about 7 weeks time.
However Stu I did miss Liverpool away which I understand from Bedford Wolf was the dogs bollox.
Oh ,
Didn’t realise you’d been away. I thought Bedford Wolf was a little mooted, you must go over it in detail on day on the blog for us. Just a thought why not put something together for the PVH get together, say, a presentation or something along those lines. I bet Clive from Houston would be interested in something like that. You know what them Americans are like, they think the aworld ends at the Mexican border.
I would probably bore the arse of everybody – in fact I will the bore arse of everyone!!!
Do you recall how Villa fared when PL did actually change their playing style from what it had been previously?
BOG do you think Steve Fowler is trying to change the subject?
Dunno Jacko – just read the thread from Steve Fowler as I aint been on here for a couple of days – probably raised the point as I suggested we stick with PL for a while but fair enough. I have tried to answer the question – see above.
Cheers
BOG
Steve…..
Not being a very close follower of the playing style at Aston Villa under PL’s stewardship it’s a little difficult to answer the question, but I have made enquiries………
As it happens Mr Lambert did not necessarily change the playing style at Villa as under the previous manager (McLeish) they did not actually have one – according to my old workmate who is a Holte End ST holder.
Lambert joined Villa after guiding Norwich to 12th position in the Premier League 2011/12 season (what would we give for that?) and departed to The Midlands with some acrimony on both sides. His record at Norwich was quite impressive – a win rate of a shade fewer than 50% over 142 games. (That would suit us OK methinks).
However Villa proved to be quite a different animal altogether. They were 16th in the Prem and only avoided relegation by 2 points and had sacked Alex McLeish a few weeks before Lambert was appointed in the summer of 2012. He arrived with a reputation of being a “master tactician”. Apparently the squad he inherited was bereft of any motivation and guidance but they did have some pretty decent players such as N’Zogbia, Bent, Petrov, Dunne, Ireland, Delph etc but the team simply did not gel under the McLeish methods – or lack of them.
Enter Lambert and he made some questionable signings and some half decent ones such as Benteke. He tried 4-3-3, 4-4-2, and 3-5-2 and so on and so forth. He tried the direct style which seemed to be working ok but then after visiting Bayern Munich to assess Guardiola’s style and then trying to introduce the same style at Villa with players of less ability, his reign capitulated. However the question was asked was he buying and blooding players to suit his preferred style (whatever that is/was) or did he then try to find a suitable system to suit the players after he had bought them in? (This was very much a moot point according to my buddy). Basically, he no real identity.
Therefore this apparently left him open to the chants of “you don’t know what you are doing”. Anyway his win record at Villa Park was a pretty paltry 29% and eventually led to his dismissal in February 2015 with the club in dire straits eventually finishing 17th.
However I do not think his bad experience at Villa should detract from the fine job he did at Norwich. Some clubs seem to suit managers and likewise the other way round. At Norwich the relationship appeared to dovetail perfectly until Delia decided not to “splash the cash” and Lambert told ’em to get stuffed.
I would like to think he could have similar success at Wolves and it’s simply my opinion that we have to give him a chance to prove his worth.
BOG
Clearly, the lads struggle at the Mol so we need to take radical steps for the Cardiff match on 1st April. I propose a sort of ‘no mans land’ in the bottom third of the SB , NB and BW. About 300 sheep should be installed in to these areas. I feel Cardiff could be quite unsettled by this phenomena. The attraction/distraction of the sheep will play in to our hands and enable a 4th consecutive win. ( sorry all the Welsh Wolves contingent-couldn’t resist).
I know no one likes the manager to ‘tinker’ with a winning team, but is there something to be said for wholesale changes for the Cardiff game?
Obviously, recent results have proved that home games are a completely different animal to away and our recent successes could make Cardiff even more reticent in coming forward. Our inability to find a way through defensive set-ups at the Mol this season has been both consistent and costly and PL needs to fix this problem pronto. I feel we need a ‘KMac in his pomp’ type figure who can thread that defence splitting pass through the massed ranks of opposition defenders. Do we have one in our squad? Lee Evans has that reputation but would need to be played further forward to use it fully. Saisse too can make a pass and is the nearest thing to KMac in the squad.
Hopefully, the upcoming transfer window will see this, our biggest headache, rectified once and for all, with a proper, quality No10 coming into the club.
We absolutely do require someone in the centre mid position who can comfortably retain possession and play creative and incisive passes to our forward four – particularly, as you say, at home.
Despite our last game, we are also crying out for a consistent goal scorering centre forward in the team, in addition to an experienced and commanding centre half who is comfortable in possession – I do think a creative and goal scoring no 10 is also required; however, with Mason, Cav and Marshall all able to do a good job there, I don’t think this position is as essential as the others.
Stevie boy,
It looks like we’ve missed out on one of the best in the buisness, Bastain Schweinsteiger is off for the lure on mega bucks to Chicago fire. How I would have loved him for his swan song. That boy can play.
I couldn’t believe Mourhinio didn’t play him more. Maybe his Grandad bombed his Grandads chip shop in Portugal during the war.
Blimey he would have been a bit special – didn’t even know he was on his way out of Old Trafford.
He’d have certainly brought a fair amount of class and composure to the team, wouldn’t he – I’ve been a big admirer of him for a good decade or so.
Whilst i’d like to think PL’s had to acknowledge that you can’t succeed at Championship level with a central midfield comprising of energy and running alone – attributes he’s regularly made public that he wants in his team (which explains Saiss’s omission from the team until defeat after defeat meant that he had to try something different) – I think Schweinsteiger’s style is, nonetheless, far too understated and cultured for ol’ PL to have considered.
In fact, I think PL is actually quite similar to Mick McCarthy in many ways: wanting hardworking, high-energy, effort. However, as was rarely the case with MM, I just hope that PL’s next foray into the transfer market demonstrates that he sees such attributes as being compatable with players who also possess equally good technical ability – it doesn’t have to be one or the other.
I was thinking about what we can do NOW to improve results at home for the rest of the season.
No one likes to change a winning team, but could we benefit from completely changing our style and personnel for home games as counter attacking just don’t cut it against a team that won’t attack us.
Still think we should go after Fabregas
Preferably with a bloody big stick.
Here’s some decent news on Weinmann who actually seems a steal at this price.
Deal in place for Wolves to sign Andreas Weimann
Wolves have a £1.5million deal in place to buy in-form Andreas Weimann, the Express & Star understands, but no final decision has yet been made on whether he’ll permanently move to Molineux at the end of the season.
The on-loan forward has hit goalscoring form, netting two goals in a week to help fire Wolves up the table with three successive victories, writes Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers.
Weimann joined from Derby County from January until the end of the season.
After taking a few games to bed in the Austrian has impressed of late. But it’s understood that Wolves will wait until the end of the campaign before deciding whether to sign him on a permanent basis.
It’s thought the deal has been agreed between Wolves and Derby and cannot be reneged on by the Rams, despite the fact they’ve just changed boss with former Blues manager Gary Rowett replacing the sacked Steve McClaren.
But Wolves will wait before electing whether to give the deal the green light in the summer.
Head coach Paul Lambert already knew Weimann well from their Villa days.
Under Lambert, Weimann enjoyed a prolific 2012/13 season in particular, netting 12 in 38 appearances.
After Lambert’s departure from Villa Park he fell out of favour and soon moved down a division to join Championship side Derby for a fee believed to be around £2.5m.
The 25-year-old made just 13 league starts for the Rams, who were happy to loan him to Wolves in January.
Since then he’s played 13 times in gold and black, scoring away at Liverpool in the FA Cup and in the recent wins over Rotherham and Fulham, the latter two as a central striker.
His performances have earned praised from Lambert, who recently called Weimann a ‘freak of nature’ for his ‘phenomenal’ work rate.
Weimann said after the Rotherham win that he’d love to be the man to fire Wolves to Championship safety, but that his future was still up in the air.
He added at the time: “As regards my future, I haven’t got a clue as to what’s going to happen in the summer.
“I’m here until the end of the season and I want to keep Wolverhampton in the Championship.
“I’m sure we’ll sit down at the end of the season with both clubs and whoever and we’ll see what’s going on.
“I’ve enjoyed it so far. I’ve got the football I wanted – that was why I came here, to get more game time so I’ve enjoyed that bit.”

here’s a thunk.
Connect the dots……….
Bastian Schweinsteiger on Man United’s books…………….
Jose Mourinho manager of Man United……………..
Mendez is Mourinho’s agent………………
Mendez owes Fosun big time…………….
Why not pose the question, Jeff, and see if we can get him at the Mol for next season?
Wages…..no problem.
Get us in the Prem and a golden thank you very much.
I refer you to my previous comment. Try not to mention the war – I did once but I think I got away with it.
R.I.P. Keith Palmer, murdered on the streets of our capital city (literally just yards from where BOG and I were on Saturday) by yet another cowardly evil piece of scum.
Is he as big a piece of scum as your PMs, who approve of sales to dictators in the Middle East of weapons that can, and do, kill innocent people?
‘My PM’s’? – this suggests that you are not in the UK in which case your comment is as meaningless as a Sandwell Shadow Dweller my old lad. Unless of course you are trying to assuage the guilt associated with such an atrocity perpetrated by medieval slime? A slice of compassion for a police officer – and the other innocents – slain on the streets of my home town would not go amiss.
Why are the comments of those of us who are not resident in the UK (and we appear to be fairly numerous on this blog) ‘as meaningless as a Sandwell Shadow Dweller’ ?
WJ – on all matters Wolves any comment from any Wolves fan is of equal validity regardless of where in the world they may be. Including my son in Dubai. Heck even that chap in Texas is more than welcome. My point was that my post was about lamenting a British police officer murdered by a British Muslim on the streets of London and Tim (nice but ….?) chose to hijack my post with his own personal political claptrap with reference to ‘your PMs’ suggesting that he is not in the UK thus rendering his posturing redundant.
To be honest that doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. Non-UK residents are free to comment on Wolves matters, but other subjects are the exclusive domain of UK residents ? Despite them being UK citizens ? Despite them perhaps intending to eventually return to the UK ?
Lets keep it simple and comment EXCLUSIVELY on Wolves-related matters on this site – it’ll save a lot of time and misunderstandings.
I quite fancy my Prime Minster, especially when she wears those tight leather pants. Have you been on the sauce again Timorthy ????
I said NO THANKS to Sako returning. And I guess I am in the majority. I do not believe we need him with the midfielders we already have, now performing too.
http://c.newsnow.co.uk/A/877788016?-300:786:0
E&S poll this morning was saying 61% in favour of Sako returning. I am in agreement. Can see him not just as a left winger but playing central behind the striker. In terms of strikers I’d love it if we offered Chelski around £15m – or whatever it takes – for Tammy Abraham, England U21 striker currently on loan at Bristol City where he has been scoring for fun all season (including against us). Time and again it is proven that a quality striker, with decent players around him, can win you promotion e.g. Wilson (Bournemouth), Gray (Burnley), Gayle (Newcastle) etc.
What with Weimann, Costa, Caveliro, Zyro and Graham, why do we need another? I guess if they are talking about it it can only mean one thing – Costa will move!!! I will be a tad pissed off if that is the case as Costa is better than Sako.
I agree about Tammy mate.
Spot on Brompton, forwards not side ways or even backwards. We should be aiming higher than this we are the New Mighty Wolves, Champions in waiting. Not to long a wait I hope, I’m getting on in years. Can’t wait for the sheep shaggers to arrive next week.
Billericay Town? Just saying like!!!! PMSL
Tim,
No doubt you have valid political views, but this is NOT the forum for them.
It’s a Blog, About The Wolves.
See how it works?
I got rightly chatised a while back for crowing about Trump, so I keep my political thoughts to myself.
Please do likewise.
Good to hear Clive . As you probably know I agree with you 100%. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about anything, even Amanda. But on this site only about the club we love.
Thomas, Ben, we’ve started going all political.
New blog please!
I stopped writing on this blog a while ago but still read it daily and love the banter and match reports. I still keep in touch with bloggers via text and email and despite being told to “come back” I never have, until tonight. I read Dave’s (Bedford Wolf) comment and thought, yes good on you mate, you have said what many of us are thinking. Then I saw the reply at 4:53pm and thought wtf is that all about. It wasn’t a political statement, it was a Wolves fan who originates from London commenting on yesterdays tragic events in the capital. Why ? because only five days ago he and his friends were in that very area along with probably hundreds of Wolves fans. Had this atrocity happened then it could of impacted greatly on WWFC and this blog. I notice that at the time of writing this, Tim has got one like for his comment. But Hey, we all know that you can comment once on your own !
Great to read your input Ian….
I’m choosing to bite my lip on Tim’s comments..
Your comments are truly sensible, as always and I hope to see you when we get back…
Missed your comments Ian, but at least now I can take some solace from knowing you are at least reading this stuff. Exciting times, don’t you think? What are you thoughts on the return of Bakary?
As much as I loved him at the time, and I didn’t blame him for moving on, I think now it us who have moved on and there is no space for him here now.
Hear hear. I loved the guy and what he did for us, even though he quite often went missing. I considered him a luxury player, and imo we don’t need him anymore. Plus he is now 29, has not played much football and therefore is not what we want or need.
Stuff me with the rough end of a pineapple, Bromto, I actually agree 100% with you.
Friggin’ amazing!
Any news on the Bloggers Ball Bash? Saturday 06 May at A Park View Hotel – but any more details yet? Brompto? Stu?
Yeah. I am organising it and have drafted my post. I hope to get it on here as a separate thread very soon.
Bedders,
I called the hotel yesterday to double check my dinner reservation, and was told they are preparing a big table for dinner that night as they are expecting a lot of people.
If enough of us turn up, they might have to spill over into the car park, which, if they weather is fine, would be wonderful!
The more the merrier!
Looking forward to meeting new bloggers, meeting up with old friends, and seeing if Brompto has gone completely bald yet!
If we’re talking Bloggers’ Ballbash I am putting mine and the PMDG’er’s name down for the meal now.
I think that Sat at APV has tentatively reserved a table for 20 but we will need to confirm numbers in good time.
And time’s getting short.
Could you kindly put Mr and Mrs Twixfix down for the evening meal…I’m sure she realises we’re mangeing …but just to be sure …thanks Mark and Sue x
It has been confirmed mate. The back room is ours. I will post something on here very soon.
Good man yerself!
I knew we could count on you.
I do believe the luuverrly Brompton is sorting things out for this one and as stated above, “ordered a Big table.”
I want 5 places Steve, it may end up possibly being 7. Will get back to you as soon as the the other two confirm.
A teacher asked her third grade class to
name things that ended with “tor” that eat things.
The first little boy said, “Alligator.”
“Very good James, that’s a big word.”
The second boy said, “Predator.”
“Yes, that’s another big word Alan. Very well done.”
Little Johnny says, “Vibrator.”
After nearly falling off her chair, she says, “That is a big word Johnny, but it doesn’t eat anything.”
“Well my mother has one and she says it eats frickin’ batteries like there’s no tomorrow!”
Little Johnnie and Jenny are only 12 years old, but they know they are in love.
One day they decide that they want to get married, so Johnnie goes to Jenny’s father to ask him for her hand. Johnnie bravely walks up to him and says, “Mr. Smith, me and Jenny are in love and I want to ask you for her hand in marriage.”
Thinking that this was just the cutest thing, Mr. Smith replies, “Well Johnnie, you are only 12. Where will you two live?”
Without even taking a moment to think about it, Johnnie replies, “In Jenny’s room. It’s bigger than mine and we can both fit there nicely.”
Still thinking this is just adorable, Mr. Smith says with a huge grin, “Okay then how will you live? You’re not old enough to get a job. You’ll need to support Jenny.”
Again, Johnnie instantly replies, “Our allowance. Jenny makes five bucks a week and I make 10 bucks a week. That’s about 60 bucks a month and that should do us just fine.”
Mr. Smith is impressed Johnnie has put so much thought into this.”Well Johnnie, it seems like you have everything figured out. I just have one more question. What will you do if the two of you should have little ones of your own?”
Little Johnnie just shrugs his shoulders and says, “Well, we’ve been lucky so far.”
Oh God!
Clive’s started telling jokes.
Get back to the politics lads, it’s funnier!
I went to a restaurant on the moon the other day. The food was good but there was no atmosphere…
Two fish in a tank
One of them.turns around to the other one and says
How the fuck do you drive it!!!

On first reading, my questions are:
Why does Thelwell sound more and more like moxey, passing the buck,
and does he actually do anything that Lambert cannot?
Why did the chicken cross the road ?
It was an international break.
Glad to read in the Wolves parliament notes that there is going to be an overhaul of pre match entertainment which compared to other clubs is pretty dire. The introduction of flags, new music to get the crowd going etc ( dances with Wolves ?. ) A drum or band to create an atmosphere. Could they utilise the advertising boards to prompt the fans into singing perhaps even conducting our Icelandic clap during the game instead at the end of it, competition to see which stand makes the most noise (not much of a competition I know, but you get the drift) We have great vocal fans, a not half bad stadium, we have passion and a new generation of season ticket holders who can take our support to a new level. Exciting times ahead.
Yes, Looney
All they will have to do after that is make sure the entertainment on the pitch before and after half time matches it!!!
They should bring that fuckin shed back at half time. Cor beat a shed featuring as entertainment.
Been on a mini break so not long back thought I’d catch up so read the minutes from fans Parlament.
I have to say if Therwell is in denial the squad we have are in a relegation battle yes STILL and most of the home country players have benn here 4 years or more and were have they taken us, from Premier League to League One to the Championship relegation battle. ,
And what’s this bollocks about Batth, Evans be assets……….so Kev how many multi million pound offers have been rejected for Batth and Evans in fact could you please tell me the last time some one inquired about, Batth, Evans, Stearman, Edwards, Dicko, and so on .
I watch documentary on Sky One this morning about Man City and how there owners transformed not just the first team but the woman’s team in fact the hole community…….Jeff Fosun and yes you Kev and our new chief Excutive…….I suggest you watch it if you are TRULY want to make Wolves a force again,
Oh and when was the last time one of the back room team which has also been part of our fall from Premier to League one turned down a small fortune to stay at Wolves…….utter bollocks.
To much of a click running right through the club all scraping one another backs.
Sheik Mansour took over Man City nine and a half years ago. Fosun took over Wolves 8 months ago. Perhaps we should make the Premiership in the next two seasons an achievable target, rather than world domination by Wolverhampton in the next 6 months. Interestingly the ‘New City’ made the selfsame blunders in the August transfer window that Fosun made (Robinho for a shedload of money that went to waste). The only difference being that City were already in the Premier League.
I’d rather see a squad built over the summer that when it goes up, will stay up. Then we can dream. Until then it’s noses to the grindstone, as that’s the only way you get out of the Championship.
I a gree Midfield but trying to convince me Batth, Evans and most of the home country players are going to get us out of the championship is utter dilution as is giving them 3 and 4 years contracts and telling me they are ASSETS.
Most og the Batth’s and Evans and the Steamans and even Edwards have failed to get us out of this League, what the Director and Cheif Ex: seem to be saying is they are good at there jobs……do you think they are ? Maybe League One yes and that goes for he back room staff they have all been given chance after chance to prove they are good enough for the championship and they have ALL failed just look at the performances and the league table.
Don’t tell me they’ve done a good job because I could give you reason after season why they haven’t but the powers that be STILL seem to think they will come good when all the evidence suggests the opersite.
Just reflecting on the available free transfers available at the end of the season and contemplating a midfield of Carrick Leadbitter and Connor Ronan. One to get one to give one to go. If Costa goes at the end of the season it would be a shame not to have seen Ronan behind the Fulham front Four.
Shed building competition in front of each stand at half time?
A lovely quote from Thelwell talking about criticism of his handling of transfers and the general lack of accountability for our poor record over the last few years.
“I have seen this talk about a ‘cosy club’ and I need to put it to bed.”
Make sure you tuck it up nicely with a lovely hot water bottle all cosy, warm and cuddly, won’t you Kevin.
He’s certainly a class act when you watch him performing at the FP. Slimey toad.
Certainly wouldn’t trust him with the family silver.
Just noticed that our former head of talent spotting Stuart Webber looks to be moving on again from Huddersfield to Norwich as Sporting Director. He seems to have done quite a job at Huddersfield as the person credited with bringing in Wagner and some of the related German contingent. He also took Steve Weaver with him from our academy. I don’t know for definite how much he has influenced things at Huddersfield but he does seem really highly regarded and I just can’t help feeling Moxey made a bad call letting him go and keeping Thelwell. But that’s the power of hindsight I guess.
It wouldn’t be the first bad call greasel made, would it??!!
Iv’e just read TWP Review, and to me nothing changes,
the same old same old drivel spouted by another poxey (Thelwell).
No mention on the performance of the coach and if he’s good enough to get us to safety let alone
get us out of the championshite.
I’m beginning think if FOSUN are really committed to wolves future, time will tell if they sell the crown jewels again, Costa, cav, instead of building the team around these player’s.
Sorry to be a pessimist .
Ido hope i’m wrong,REALLY.UTW
In my opinion this is all that’s wrong with football.
Taken from the BBC Sport website a couple of minutes ago.
Manchester United are prepared to meet Neymar’s £173m release clause and are willing to pay the 25-year-old striker £416,000 per week if he joins them from Barcelona this summer.
What do you mean? A mere £21,632,000 a year salary? Or a meagre £59,429 a day. Or a paltry £2,476 an hour. Or a poverty-inducing £41.27 per minute. Aren’t all of us on similar wages?
With the average national wage being £27,500 at the moment it would mean Neymar earning the same as 787 ‘normal’ people.
Outrageous I completely agree and it is everything that is wrong with football – money driven and creating the most uneven of playing fields imaginable.
Can’t argue with any of that Bedders. But if we’re gonna compete on the same playing field as them and others, we’re going to have to swim in a similar swamp of unfettered financial debauchery.
I don’t suppose many of us will complain then.
I bet the clubs struggling along in Leagues 1 and 2 look at our transfer of Helder Costa and think just the same.
Yes indeed – but there is no denying it is a great pity and is slowly killing football as we know (and knew) it. Like you say though I am sure the fans of Chelsea and Man City, and all other clubs who have bought their way to success, couldn’t give a proverbial.
Fosum looking at dortmond to buy!
Putting Lambert there as boss. We’re having Bhutti and Thelwell off to Chinaas an advisor??
That works for me.
My only hope is Fosun and Jeff have thought when they took over we will give the hole staff, coaches and present board members a season and assess then at the end of the season.
I just hope they have the commitment and ball to make the changes to shake this club from top to bottom and get rid of the ” COSY ” back stratching stale mediocre paracites.
Pathetic journalism.Fosun made several enquiries and then bought Wolves.
New blog please, so I can slag off the taffies. Roll on Saturday. COUW.
Don’t you just hate these boring international breaks?
I have submitted the post to Thomas in respect of BLOGGERS BALLBASH IV. Hopefully this will come up as a new thread soon.
