On paper, this looked an evenly matched game.
Everton impressed at Molineux in August and, despite their iffy league form, have some good players on their books.
But, with the exception of goalscorer Andre Gomes, they were made to look distinctly average by a Wolves team that seem to have found another level in recent weeks.

Seventh and on the coattails of Manchester United and Arsenal, this really is the stuff dreams are made of.
You got the sense it was going to be our afternoon when Matt Doherty won a penalty from the hapless Leighton Baines inside the first 10 minutes.
Reuben Neves dispatched that with ease and Wolves were on their way to a third successive league win.
Gomes’ leveller temporarily spoiled the fun, but another classy assist from Joao Moutinho laid on an eleventh goal of the season for Raul Jimenez.
To think that the former cost £15m less than Michael Keane, who was tormented by Diogo Jota all afternoon, is flabbergasting.
And as for Raul, the sooner we get him signed up the better. He has become the figurehead of this team and is so crucial to everything we do.
With Leander Dendoncker and Jonny also impressing, it’s easy to see why Nuno was in no rush to deal any players in during January.
With two expensively assembled teams easily dispatched over the last two games, the shrewdness of our own transfer dealings has really come to light.
There’s no egos in this team, just pure quality.
Better dust off your passport, because they’re going to be sending us on a European tour at this rate.

Absolutely love this team. When I sat in the North Bank last Tuesday night watching our lads dismantle West Ham I knew we were the real deal. I will say that was the great est display I have seen and being the old bastard I am the old gold still makes me burst with emotion. Love Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Love Nuno. Love this blog. Fuckin Wolves ay we.
What a pleasure to see a beautifully balanced Wolves team that always has a goal threat, and is (mostly) composed in defence
I predicted a comfortable win today, and now I’m going to predict a comfortable stroll to the end of the season and finishing in 7th (assuming one of Chelsea, Arsenal or Utd don’t have a bad patch and we sneak 6th).
The rate we’re currently going, we’ll need to play in Europe next season just to find worthy opposition.
What a time to be a Wolf.
Once again, “social media” has reports that Everton did not play well.
Of course they didn’t, coz they were not allowed to.
When is it going to gel in these narrow minded, London/Northwest biased wanker reporter’s tiny brains that Wolves are the real deal, and are here to stay, and to take over.
Ten goals in our last three league games, and two in the cup for good measure.
Who’d a thunk it in August?
Once again, another master class against some very expensive players.
But, price alone does not a good player make, look at Fulham.
We are purring as a team, each individual knowing where to be, and where his team mates are.
A very smooth and silky performance, yet again, and a joy to behold.
All Everton could do was pussyfoot around, and listen to the caterwauls of derision from their fans, who realized what a catastrophe their club has become.
As we all know, their best player was Black Cat, no one could get near him!!
Leeds lost, The shit lost, Villa drawed, we winned.
What a weekend for a shit eating grin!!
On another note, I had the misfortune to watch Spurms v New cassel this morning.
Two utterly boring teams, devoid of any clue how to play anything except Henry crab football.
O what fun it is to see The Wanderers win away……………………yet again!
FOwb
And Spurs v Newcastle somehow a ahead of Wolves in the MOTD running order. Another example CfH of London/NW bias.
We ay scared, we had Pusskas on the field for us today!!
Happy days Clive. I think I was first with a cat reference, on the match preview blog.
Are you trying to build up a reference catalogue?
01-28 in the morning and still up there on a high.
Here we are, three goals as good as you’ll see anywhere.

Roll on Tuesday.
Roll on Newcastle
Roll on Bournemouth
Roll on Uddersfelt.
FFS I’m just a Wolves fan, what the Funk is happening here.?
Following dismal performances [ and defeats ] against lowly Huddersfield and Cardiff, we were left wondering what would be Nuno`s Plan B. Well now we know.
Enter Dendonker, and a reinforced midfield. Dendonker is not only a hugely skillful player in his own right, but as a tireless box to box marauder, he has ensured that Neves and Moutinho are no longer outnumbered in the middle of the park . They have been freed, so that their natural attacking talents can be utilized to maximum effect.
The net result is that we are now far better balanced. Up front Jiminez and Jota are beginning to form a top quality partnership, benefiting hugely from the improved service that is coming from midfield. As a team we now pose a potent threat to all . Unbelievably, we have moved on.
Thank you Nuno for this tactical brilliance. . Hopefully you are now working on a Plan C.in readiness for our first European campaign.
Echo all you say. The “Donk” has made a hell of a difference. Need to sign him up along with Jimmy.
Donck is a done deal.
Donck is the real deal!
Moutinho player of the season so far.
Pure quality ,consistently .
I know others are there or there about too but Christ is he a class act .
Long may this dream last … I’ve often thought what it would have been like in the 50’s following wolves.
I might actually find out ….
In the 50s it was a bit like this – or perhaps more accurately a bit like this is rapidly becoming.
I’ve got a VHS tape somewhere which includes an interview with Peter Broadbent; he comments “We didn’t ever think we’d lose”.
Those were the days to go to Highbury – and many other well-known venues- and watch us win 5-1.
Those were the days when at least one paper suggested that the entire Wolves team should be picked to represent England.
BUT they were also the days when those of a sniffy disposition used to classify our long-passing style as “kick and rush”.
I suppose nothing really changes, every truly successful team always has its (mindless) detractors.
On a different subject – bearing in mind our past troubles, I;m due we all have a degree of sympathy for this chap:
http://toffeetvefc.com/video-everton-1-3-wolves-gwladys-street-reaction/
COYW
At 60 plus I’m too young (!) to remember the ’50’s team, but wondered how their ‘long ball’ style (targetting the wingers) compares to our current diagonal-passing style (targetting our wing backs) ? Strange that the 50’s team was (retrospectively) criticised for it, yet today its considered to be innovative…
I`m late 70`s and was there on the South Bank for almost every home game in the 1950`s. [ apart from the games when I arrived at the ground less than one hour prior to the kick off and found myself locked out because the place was full !! ].
Today, most people very mistakenly claim that Stan Cullis`s team relied exclusively on long ball tactics. This was not the case. Like our present side Wolves had some brilliant midfielders back then — e.g the magnificent Peter Broadbent — so our play was always very constructive, but never too intricate. Central to Stan Cullis`s game plan was the requirement to have pacy wingers right out on the touch lines, thereby stretching opposing defenses to the limit. Broadbent, and the likes of Ron Flowers, Eddie Clamp and Bill Slater, had the huge ability to spray long balls out to the flanks with devastating effect. In addition, both wingers [ e,g Jimmy Mullen and Johnny Hancocks] had the talent to suddenly play balls right across the park to each other, a ploy which opponents could never seem to cope with. The result was a hugely potent, direct attack and bags of goals
Today, players generally are far fitter and faster. Now we have wing backs able to do things which were physically impossible back then, and these guys are in effect the Wolves wingers of yesteryear. The long balls out to the flanks so brilliantly effected from time to time by our current team are creating just the same havoc in opposing defenses as they did back then
In summary, the way we play today, contains a strong element of what we did 60 years ago. – and that`s one good reason why I enjoy it so much
Thanks for that. Sounds like there are a lot of similarities between the styles. Lets hope the results continue to be similar !
I was a regular traveller to Molineux, during the late 60’s and early 70’s.
The game (rules, structure, fitness, etc) has changed considerably since then.
Yes, Peter Knowles could pick a pass & The Doog persistently score.
However, the level of Neves & Jiminez et al, totally eclipses our past players abilities.
I am not saying they were not great footballers, for they were in their era, but it is an era long past.
The one thing we may have in common with the team of the 50’s is that we both play in Europe!
Good write up Ben
As the infamous club-clown and comedian once put it, there’s absolutely no reason we can’t do an Everton. Now that, Mr Moxey, is how you do it!
As several of you above have already remarked, what we are witnessing here goes beyond a result; beyond a win and another three points. What we are witnessing is sublime teamwork. Wolves are not a collection of expensive prima donnas, playing for a payroll. Nuno has built a team around a bunch of honest, skillful and hard-working players who are giving every ounce of their essence, every game, to achieve the best they can and to improve.
As the famous US football (I know, wrong kind ;-)) coach, Paul “Bear” Bryant once said: “Set goals – high goals for you and your organization. When your organization has a goal to shoot for, you create teamwork, people working for a common good.”
Nuno has done exactly that. Nobody on the team, including himself, has an ego. Nobody is larger than the club. Everyone is doing their very best every game to win and bring success. Part of me was pleased that we didn’t sign anyone this January. Because unless Nuno is absolutely convinced it’s the right player, and that the player fits in with this teamwork philosophy, the last thing we want is some overpaid plonker come and upset the apple cart. Players with an ounce of nous should be queuing up to join us in summer, and Nuno can have his pick. Tammy Abraham, sir, you failed your IQ test I’m afraid. Enjoy Championship football!
We’re beyond doing an Everton. At the rate we’re going, we’ll be doing a Liverpool very soon!
Go Wolves!!!
In a few years, the rest of the Prem will be aspiring to “Do a Wolves”!
Oh yes they will! Touché! 🙂
Hope you’re doing well Clive! Happy times.
Planning on wearing my Wolves shirt at a Superbowl party tomorrow cos I know there’s gonna be some hammers there. 🙂
Couldn’t agree more!
The team is the essential element. Just look at the players’ faces as they congratulate the goal scorer. Watch Coady talking away (Or hear him at Goodison!).
They say that as you grow older time passes faster… and I can attest to that
Was it just a few years ago that we had to battle our way out of the Third Division? And just a few months ago reel from defeats to Huddersfield and Cardiff?
I now just want time to stand still.. or at least move much much more slowly… so we can all take in, absorb and luxuriate in the sheer quality of this team that is putting the fear of dog into the Premier League.
This fixture run always looked like a chance to really accumulate… and after the last three wins I’m thinking Chelski and Gunners won’t be sure how they survive our onslaught when we see them in March.
black cats whatever ( or is that a plug for Sunderland?)
UTW
I thought long and hard ( no rude comments please) about my three nil prediction, I just couldn’t see the toffs scoring, it had to be three nil all day long. It took a wonder strike from Gnomes to up set my prediction, they need to put him back in the garden with the cat!
Points in the bag, now its FA Cup time come on you Mighty, Mighty Wolves.
One last thing, top Midland Club by a country mile, couldn’t dream this up.
Absolutely fantastic result and performance again. 7 wins from our last 13 games and we may well be playing Europa league football next year. 11 wins and we might just sneak into the CL. Both are very high hurdles but dare to dream ?
So that’s Chelsea and Liverpool away then. The other 11 are all very winnable.
I had a great desire to go back to Goodison, hadn’t been there for some time, but crucially, I was there the last time we won there, both equally great days for diferrent reasons.
Yesterday we arrived to Everton streets frozen with ice and a ground frozen in feckin time, please excuse my French, “What a feckin shithole” it
looked like a Coronation street backdrop from the 60’s the bloke in the ground had one central tooth in his head and was so weird I missed half the game looking at him. I told Jen de Wolf, “he was Spanish, Juan Eater”
Entering the ground we bumped into Twix and Mrs Twix enjoying the delights of Goodison scran, at least her sausage roll was hot, if I stood on tip toes my head would have touched the ceiling, I looked over in the corner and there was Ena Sharples selling programmes in a booth, (yes a booth) another 60’s throwback.
Then the beer buses arrived and the 12th man launched into non-stop singing until I got back on the coach, so it was time to move from the broom cupboard that was the stand up to our seats.
I climbed the two flights of stairs and turned onto the terrace and at the same time turned back to 1969 onto the Cowshed (old North Bank) wooden flooring, wooden clacker seats, what seemed to be an asbestos ceiling that our fans enjoyed banging out Nuno Santos Barmy army on all afternoon.
At 5 pm my back and neck were genuinely aching with dipping down every kick of the ball as the roof was so low we lost the ball every time it was kicked more than 8 foot in the air. So you guys that sat at home in the warm and in the comfort had for once, a better view of the game than us.
The game itself, WOW, the cat was definitely their best mover, found more positions and evaded everyone better than any Everton player. The pundits are waking up to the evolving Nuno revolution from the Black Country.
All in all what a day, the Nostalgia ended on entering the ground, it really was a trip back to the bad old days.(it really is a shithole) Everton really are second class citizens in Liverpool, their conditions are appaling, their team is appaling and the Cat is all they have to look forward to each week, (I shit you not)
Roll on Tuesday another sell out. I hope Wolves make those Shrewsbury tossers pay for all the 4500 tickets they asked for, as of yesterday 10 am they had sold 1600, they have the lower Steve Bull and the quadrant so deprived us of even more fans getting to the game.
* rumour yesterday Wolves were asking them for some of the unsold tickets back. The fans at Molineux deserve to see this football our boys are giving us.
Oh yes,
I stood next to some guys who were filming on their phones, Jen de Wolf overheard one of them say to his mate (Daniel) get this on Wolves blog.
I don’t know who he was and he was gone before I got the chance to ask, so if your’e one of our regular bloggers let us know who you were. I goto all the matches away, so be nice to let you buy me a beer. 🙂
It was me …. Lord Twix ….
Joao Moutinho…. he drinks the ( Stu’s ) vino…..
Couldn’t be you for two reasons:-
1, He was too ugly.
2, You’d never buy me a beer.
Best Quote I have read this week is
” The Top Six are about to become the MAGNIFICENT seven.”
How true is that?
Tommy, Oh Tommy Tiddles
Goes down the wing for me!
Sign him up!
Sign him up!
Sign him up!
A few weeks ago I suggested Dendonker was running about like a headless chicken, what do I know, just informed my son he is the next Kevin de Brunye box to box runner, tall, strong. Have just had to explain to the wife that if we play in Europe that will not be Barcelona (at least not just yet).
Saw the Tammy Abraham piece re his love of the vile was to great to leave them, bollocks it was the extra money you got from them Tammy.
In Nuno and Fosun we trust and smiles all round we are the Wolves
He knew he’d only be warming the bench, at best, for us.
Most has already been said about our superb performance so here’s a few disconnected thoughts on yesterday:-
Goodison Park emptied quicker than my beer glass after our third goal, but the Wolves fans must have missed the fire alarm because they were making too much noise.
Jota and Jimenez. The two J’s could well end up as Wolves legends. Telepathic understanding, clinical finishing and HUGE workrate. Dougan and Richards incarnate…
…with the added bonus of the HUGE workrate, in the Doog’s case (not the hardest worker), bless him!
Neves, Moutinho and Dendoncker are the best midfield trio I’ve seen in a Wolves shirt… Well, THREE Wolves shirts actually.
Just like the last really successful Wolves team of the early 70s, the side now picks itself.
On Radio 5’s 606 phone in last night, one Everton fan rang in to complain about their loss and said “It was ONLY Wolves!”
TWAT!
The added 7 minutes at the end was FUR-gy time.
Third on Match of The Day was a DISGRACE!
We’re Wolverhampton, we’re on our way back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had been thinking ‘moggie time’, but fur – gy (furgie?) time’s good too. I don’t mind being third on MOTD, keep under the radar, keep ’em thinking ‘it’s only Wolves’ for now.
Just talking about Everton v wolves on five live. Guess what? Everton gave us all three goals and Everton were this that and the other
As for Wolves. Not a single mention.
Same on Sunday Supplement Cheesy. Entire section of the programme devoted to how it ‘s gone wrong for Marco Silva without once, even in passing, mentioning Wolves.
Tbf, Sunday Supplement, which I watch every week, was only ever about Jose, until he left. Now it’s Ole and Mauricio and a bit of Pep and Jurgen. I exaggerate slightly.
Goals on Sunday was better. Holloway praising Nuno.
Cheesie & Happy, goals on sunday with Ian Hollowaway started with “oh woo is Everton” but Hollowaway was complimentary of all things WWFC, Nuno, the team, the fans & how good we have been this season.
Praise indeed cus he’s had some shite when e’s bin up da Mol
You know that cat on the pitch at Everton……………….
Cheesie,
Q? How did ya get next doors cat past security?
Q? Did he (assuming he was a he & not a she!) have a ticket?
And last but not least,
Q? did you leave the cat in Gladys Street?
If so it’ll be shittin down the ginnle of the terraced Goodison slums.
Lmfro 🙂
Nice one Rick chap. If I doe see the cat in the next couple of days I assume it has bin taken in by a kindly old Scouse couple who hopefully ay et it for Tae.
There are moderators on Wolvesrumours.co.uk who are Everton fans and they are constantly belittling Wolves.
Some transfer rumours were ridiculous because there is no way Wolves could attract that kind of person.
I asked them why these rumours were ridiculous but they wouldn’t print my question.
As more proof that Wolves read this blog and take serious note of what is said let me remind you that a few weeks ago I mentioned that I was tired of us being in 7th one week and 11th the next and vice versa.
I think I suggested to Wolves that they put together a string of wins so we could get into 7th and put a bit or room between us and the teams below us.
Thank you Jeff, Kevin. Laurie and Nuno for taking my concerns seriously and remedying the situation.
(Come on Lei-Chester. Get some points from our competitors for 6th place)
Arrived at Goodison early, bumped into the lovely Twixes had a chat for 10 mins then went for a walk round the stadium, we always like to do a trip round the ground to soak up the atmosphere pre match. Agree with Stu it’s a bit like Coronation St. around the ground, but I like that, much better than the grounds built on factory estates or shopping centres it’s a real ground, the heart of the community…..even with Anfield a stones throw away.
Walking along Gwladys St one of the terraced houses had all the brickwork painted Everton blue then about four or five doors down one that had it all painted Liverpool red! I wouldn’t like to pay his insurance.
Waited for the team coach to arrive to give the lads a cheer as they got off but couldn’t see much as the stewards put up a 6’ high barrier in front, but it didn’t stop three Portuguese lads chanting for Patricio. They were over here working on fibre optics for B.T. in Liverpool and were following Everton because they have two Portuguese players. We tried to convince them to come down to Molineux, no doubt after watching our lads they will now be contemplating a visit!
Great result, my hero Boly slotting back in as though he had not missed a game and Jonny and Moutino..what can you say ..absolute class, but it’s wrong to single out one player, it’s a team and it performs like one from the first to last minute
Love our team……love Nuno……love Wolves full stop.
(And I haven’t mentioned the cat…….oops… just mentioned the cat!)
Now then…. That’s Chelsea, spurs, Liverpool, West ham , Everton, all apparently had forgotten how to play football when they played us.
You know what ? For one minute I actually thought it was us who played them off the pitch but obviously I am a knob who knows nothing as they all had off days.
So Nuno please don’t go getting carried away thinking you have a wonderful bunch of players who are telepathically linked just because of all that training you do and that they follow your instructions to the letter its simply that the other teams we keep beating all don’t feel very well when we turn up.
3 papers I have read this morning and although a polite knod was made towards our contribution they all put our win down to Everton playing badly.
When we win the prem, the champs league and the f.a cup in the same season those cocooned London press wankers will have to say that a team from poxy Wolverhampton is either the dogs bollocks or the luckiest side ever to walk onto a football pitch …. My guess is they will say the latter.
P.s love the picture of your pussy Stu
What is the chant in the Leicester/Man United game that sounds like the Nuno had a dream chant? (Sloop John B.)
Don’t know precisely what we paid for Jonny, but we got ourselves great defender, a very good attacker and a part-time centre forward judging on recent performances. Thought the Donck was superb yesterday, but then again weren’t they all ?
What a result, performance and all in all a great day out.
I’ve just spent a while posting only to lose it … so I’ll just say that this was another ..’I Was There day.’
Laughing at the Everton bus driver aving a right old moan at the passengers waiting to board his bus to seeing and hearing a 15 yr old telling a 7 ft policemen …. ‘ oi yo… tek yer fuckin ‘at off cuz I corr see the corner bein took…’
… great to meet up with Stuwolf, Jen and the Lowves at the , yes it was a shithole… to witnessing that Goodison Park must have been painted more times than the Forth Bridge…
All in all a great day … and it’s a load of Bollox that anyone suggests Everton were not at the races…. we just did not let them have a sniff….
Nice to see MOTD filming the Everton fans leaving early too.
I for one cor wait for this European tour……. 7th … bugger that we’re going for 6th…. no relegation fears at the Mol…..
If we are going for 6th place I reckon we need to win about 10 of the last 13. Not impossible but improbable. But you never know with the momentum we are building up at the moment. I am still up there in the stratosphere at the minute. 40 years of mediocrity/misery and now it has all gone. Still cor fuckin believe it.
Cheers Cheesey… remember we’ve still got to play Arsenal … at home and you’re right to say 9 points will take some reigning in… but if we beat Arsenal then the gap is 6 points …. I think… they’ll be crapping themselves at that thought and looking for the Gornal cat to throw onto the pitch when they’re losing….
Safe journey NZ chap. It’s a fuckin long way. If you are in Christchurch take a look at The Bog pub down bottom of Peterborough Street.great boozer. Normally have Irish bands on etc..
Fan reaction, (from an Everton perspective)
@BethGriffiths97 – What an away day! Brilliant atmosphere from start to finish. We are wolves
@WrightGal80 – Best away atmosphere all season. Don’t even argue!
@SteBest82 – Hats off to Wolves there today, decent team versus schoolboys. Most lively away fans I’ve ever seen/heard at Goodison.
@sjv_simon – Nothing to say about us, Wolves the best team to visit Goodison this season bar Tottenham. Neves ran the show first half Raúl and Jota excellent.
(Image: PA)
@NanaKojoAfreh – Wolves are ticking the right boxes. Massive result from Goodison park. You have to admire Nuno Espírito Santo’s work.
@TimNash_1 – 62 All you can hear is Wolves fans booming ‘Nuno had a dream’ around Goodison.
@JasonJ1987 – Best away support of the season and not a hint of the w**** song. Super wolves
@tomtastic09 – Heading back to Wolves after a great day in Liverpool and taking 3 points from Everton now let’s give the cup a good run fans immense as usual love my away days.
@Ashmadigan31 – Another unbelievable away day, I still can’t believe how good we are what a time to be a wolves fan
@efcjack – Wolves are a good side. And good away support.

Joao Moutinho slays Everton and Wolves fans ask this big question
Attendance
39,380 fans were at Goodison Park, but only 3,000 in black and gold found their voice as they drowned out any home support.
Verdict
9.5 – I can’t give a 10 yet as I know there’s more to come for the Pack before the end of the season, but this equalled Wembley’s ferocity.
Who’d have thought that our heroes would be able to follow up the Wham massacre with a performance of equal ruthless efficiency and exhilarating attacking prowess. This ain’t luck folks. And it ain’t no flash in the pan either. If we can remain largely injury free, a finish in 7th is a distinct possibility and 6th is realistic prospect.
Tremendous football from our boys who are growing game by game into a major force in the most competitive league in the world. And without spending a fortune.
Pre-match, I did have a good feline about this game. Hopefully there’ll be no paws in our progress and we’ll be telling the tail for years to come. At this rate, we can go fur.
Furtastic catment nearly as funny as the Everton fans coughing up fur balls and going home early
This was posted yesterday. Tee Hee
What an amazing saturday afternoon, followed the match on my phone with bbc sport while watching the jocks beat Italy at rugby. What a fantastic performance and result at Goodison and already on cloud nine saw another amazing performance and result in Ireland where England overcame all the odds and won a famous victory in the six nations rugby championship.
How about a 6th place and Europe for wolves, and a grand slam and world cup win for England. Happy days.
Yes please sound great.
Forget the egg chasing mate, the big sport these days is catch the moggy
Lot of people are saying ( including Nuno) that this Wolves team is now blossoming.. which probably is the case, but the results since Dendonker came into the team have been staggering
UTW ( only 7 more places to go and we won’t be able to say that anymore! )
Yeah, and that is rumoured to be because he (Lea) said he wanted to leave if not actually played.
What are you hearing about that rumour over there?
You don’t honestly believe that Nuno could be blackmailed into giving one player preferential treatment do you ? The stuff about possibly leaving was put out by his agent (his brother). In reality he won his place by getting fit(ter) and by the need for Nuno to tweak his system and strengthen the midfield.
I never said anything about blackmail. He might have been promised something and we all know Nuno likes to show who’s boss.
He might have just said he wasn’t willing to sit around and waste a year – he is a Belgian international who could play elsewhere.
He played in the World Cup so I doubt it took 3 or 4 months to get in shape after a couple weeks off.
‘…he (Lea) said he wanted to leave if not actually played.’
Maybe not blackmail per se, but certainly leaning that way.
‘…and we all know Nuno likes to show who’s boss.’
I’d like to know on what basis you draw that conclusion ?
‘… I doubt it took 3 or 4 months to get in shape after a couple weeks off.’
Apparently the coaching staff weren’t happy with his body-fat % and he was not considered to be fit enough. He also had to learn the structures and patterns that the team plays to – which takes time.
If you were a Belgian international, and they are ranked number 1, would you sit around on the bench for Wolves. What do you think that would do to your international career?
And body fat obsession is stupid. Don’t sign him if you have a problem with him carrying a pound or two more. Some people are just born with a bit more weight but he seemed to be able to play well like that. Is it better that he feels hungry all the time? It’s another case of obsessing over nothing.
Face it. Nuno was probably pressured into playing him and now he looks like a genius.
How much faster do you think he would run up and down the field if he weighed 2 lbs more? Would you give up your international career because somebody thinks you weigh two pounds too much?
“If you are good enough, you are thin enough”.
‘…And body fat obsession is stupid.’
Really ? Perhaps you could pass on your wisdom to all professional coaches in all major sports. I’m sure they’ll be fascinated.
Would you take a thin Dave Edwards over a Leander Dendoncker who weighs a pound or two more than the body fat readings say he should?
There is a lot more at the level they are playing at than body fat readings but then maybe you judge players mainly by the shift they put in.
Do you really think Dendoncker would be playing a lot worse if he was a couple pounds heavier?
If you look at Traore, no amount of body fat reduction will improve his football mind. Dendoncker seems to have that and that is what they should be worrying about most.
A pound or two is not going to amount to anything on an adult man.
‘…maybe you judge players mainly by the shift they put in.’
Its irrelevant how I judge players. What matters is how the professional staff they work for judge them.
‘…and we all know Nuno likes to show who’s boss.’
I’d like to know on what basis you draw that conclusion ?
And I’m still waiting for an answer to that…
One for you;
http://www.eatyourselfbrilliant.co.uk/body-fat-percentages-athletes/
If you listen to what Nuno says he emphasises the need to for a player to ‘fit in’.
He means this both physically and psychologically.
Obviously it took time for Dendoncker to ‘merge’ into the ‘harmony’ of the group.
A team playing like Wolves don’t have players ‘blackmailing’ the Manager…
If that was the case, then we’d be struggling not winning games!
Managed to get a very good feed off the interweb and joined the match just as Neves was about to take the penalty!
Outstanding display from the Wolves.
We march on, we fear nobody.
🙂
Good piece in the Times today comparing Wolves progress and that of Everton since their respective owners took over.
Summing it up. In the time since Wolves have spent £100m on player purchases and Everton £300m. On the basis of Saturday’s game,The Times said, no Everton player would get into the Wolves team. Nuno they say, is the real deal and Silva is not. To emphasize this they quote Coady’s explanation of Nuno’s training methods.
I’m feline happy and practically purring at this result. Paws for thought, I won a tidy few quid for my BetVictor kitty! 9/4 on the win and 5/1 on the win with both teams to score. And I’m still playing with the bookies’ money after last seasons 16/1 win on the title.
I have some juicy potential wins in the pipeline. 11/10 top ten (looks good) and mega money on top six (not impossible). Throw in a couple of other tasty ones, such as 15 PL goals by a player and also top Midlands team.
And to think, Marco Silva turned down the Wolves job when he was managing in Greece. Personally I think he’s a serial loser after initially assuming he would be good at Wolves. With his moodiness he’s like a poor man’s Mourinho. By contrast Nuno lifts everyone he interacts with.
So have we finally achieved the limits of Poxey Moxey’s ambitions for Wolves? To be another Everton? Thankfully, Fosun and Nuno have bigger dreams: to achieve greatness again, not to be second best in Liverpool. We are on the way.
Silva is in a different position than Nuno, who has had a say in who comes in from the very start of his term here. He has been able to get rid of whomever he wants, as well.
I’d rather have Silva than Lambert, but that’s partially due to the fact that I can understand him better.
Almost 2 days later and only just coming off cloud 9. No, it’s not the wacky baccy.
Wow! This team continues to give and give. I was tempted to name certain players but that would be unfair to the others. This was a consummate team performance, including our 12th man.
I caught the match live via the Canadian broadcaster TSN, via the hesgoal link. I stayed with them long enough post match to hear the pundits praising up Wolves and someone saying it was a catastrophe for Everton. For me, it was a purrfect game (I know, the cat references have already been done to death).
Gutted I can’t make tomorrow’s replay but I will be in Wolverhampton on Saturday for an extended weekend.
With 39 more points to play for and, realistically, we will be doing very well to get 2 points per game average, we may get around 26 of those points.
The two teams just above us lead us by 9 and 10 points.
If we are to catch them, then they have to get only 16 or 17 points in 13 games.
How realistic is that?
So, unless one of the teams in front of us goes into a nosedive, then we realistically will finish no higher than 7th.
We can close the gap though, and see where we stand in the “last half of the season” table, just to get a feel for what we can hope for next season.
Does anyone know how we can see what the standing are from game 20 on?
found it.

Tim in Arsenal ‘s last 12 games they have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 6 thus a total of 16 points if you allow them the Blackpool result.. The wins have come against Burnley, Fulham, Blackpool in the cup, Chelsea and Cardiff. They still have to come to The Molineux.
So it is not too unrealistic to hope, if we can maintain our form and a little luck comes our way that we can sneak a top 6 place. Fingers crossed!
Let’s just keep the pressure on them, and the other two teams, and see where we end up.
I don’t think anyone will be too disappointed regardless of whether we catch any of the teams ahead of us or not.
And let’s keep putting more distance between us and those teams below us, if we can.
This is why I disregard down arrows.
Latest round of matches in EPL. Arsenal currently in 6th .If they keep up current points per game (PPG) over last 13 they will finish on 71/72 points. For wolves to get there we are looking at winning 11/12 of last 13. So unless Chelsea Man u or Arsenal form bombs I will say that us finishing 6th is highly improbable. Down at the bottom current PPG showing Huddersfield to finish on 17 Fulham 26 Cardiff 34 Burnley 37. So as it stands 35 keeps you up. In the second division current PPG indicates Norwich/Leeds to finish on 88. Sheffield united 83. Sandwell on 80. Bristol city in 6th finish on 75 which means Vile having to win 11 of the last 16 to make the play offs. So it is all starting to look quite interesting in the run in.
Arsenal and Utd still have to come to God’s Golden Acre, and we have a chance to do the double over Chelsea with another great London away day. It’s speculative af, but if we take all 9 of those points we’re far more likely to finish above at least 1 of those teams.
Even if arsenal only won 6 of the last 13 it would still leave wolves needing 9/10 wins from 13. Not impossible but need a lot of things to go in our favour.
Cheesie are you overlooking Arsenal ‘s slump in form since their opening 22 game unbeaten run? If Wolves can maintain their current form and Arsenal are unable to improve theirs, then there is a small chance we can catch them. They have to come to the Molineux which is the best opportunity to apply pressure so you never know.
Like I said chap. Not impossible. But improbable. Hope I am proved wrong. Will celebrate like f**k if we do.
Underpants & a jog around Goral then.
PS look out for the cat if you do
