Well, that’s it.
Job done. Mission accomplished. Whichever way you want to put it, Wolves are safe.
Burnley’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool puts an emphatic end to any lingering doubts and we can all now look forward to a second consectutive season of top flight football.

I don’t know about you, but I’m delighted by that.
For all the defeats, the injuries, the weakened team selections, the lack of transfer activity, the lack of goals and supposedly, the lack of a Premiership quality manager, Wolves have done it and with two games to spare.
I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I am for Mick McCarthy. This is a massive two fingers up to anyone that suggested he wasn’t good enough to keep us in this division. Once again, he’s answered his critics and proved he is without doubt the best manager we’ve had at this club for a long, long time.
Of course, there are those that will persist with the notion that we’ve stayed up simply because three teams have crumbled, on and off the pitch. It’s true that Portsmouth, Hull and Burnley have had to overcome different obstacles this season, but I think it’s incredibly harsh to take anything away from our young team’s achievements. And of course, there’s still a good chance we could finish as high as 14th, well clear of the dropzone and above one or two more ‘so-called’ established Premier League sides.
So what do we do now?
Well, we savour it.
At so many different intervals in this turbulent season it’s looked very much like we wouldn’t enjoy a happy ending. Portsmouth at home, Birmingham at home, Birmingham away, Wigan at home and Bolton away were all low points of particular note. Let’s not forget the 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace either, where we looked like a side that would struggle to stay in the Championship, let alone amongst the nation’s elite.
The next time you feel deflated by our style of play or lack of goals, think about how you felt at full time in those games.
Then think about what might lie ahead if our manager is given the transfer kitty he deserves and a wage budget to match.
Good times are coming.
I’m sure of that.
Up The Wolves.

Here I come, stirring up the shit again.
NOW is the time for MM to go to the board, not tomorrow or in the summer, but right now, bang his fists on the table and give them an ultimatum.
Either they invest heavily in at least 6, but better 8 new players, and just as importantly get rid of the same number, or he will resign, right there and then.
He has proved capable of getting blood out of a bunch of turnips.
He could walk into another job anywhere based on what he has done in 4 years with us.
The whole squad has sweated blood and given their all for the team, but most of them are just not good enough.
Yesterdays performance would have struggled to beat half the teams in the Championship.
Newcastle and the shit will be formidable next season, and there will not be any pushovers.
If we want to progress, and we all do, we must have a lot of new, better faces.
If MM thinks Doyle will move on, so be it and thank you very much. Use the money to go and buy Robbie Keane, or the like, and above all, to improve,WE MUST BE PREPARED TO PAY THE GOING WAGES.
Tottenham have a salary cap of 60,000 per week, and are they a bigger club than us ? No fuckin’ way.
We need the owner to do the right thing.
Mr. Morgan, get your check book out.
Now, if MM sits back, accepts a decision, which I’m sure greaseball moxey wants, and carries on with the same players, then he needs to be sacked.
The bottom line is we have been very lucky, and have had a piss poor season, one which we will not survive again.
FOWB
Well done to Mick, he might never have had another chance in the Premier League had we gone down. We have a lot of players this season who didn’t have any experience at all. Yet, they performed like a team and have fought to keep us up. Next season, with a couple of additions our team could be a very strong one.
Come on you Wolves!
I think this is the beginning of a whole new era for our great club. Steve Morgan is an ambitious man, and we will build on this, with new players and an improved Molineux. And our young squad, under the leadership of Mick and his coaching staff have much more to give. The likes of Henry, Doyle and Berra are beginning to look like assured Premier players, and they will continue to improve.
The general improvement in West Midlands football is also terrific, and I look forward to the derby’s next year – with us coming out on top of course!!
Well done Mick!
I do subscribe to the theory that there were three poor sides in the division. Last Premier campaign, with 2 games left we had 32 points, which would have seen us 4 clear this season. That been said, we have done brilliantly to survive and that was the task put to us.
We now need to invest pretty sharpish, so we can progress. There are those who will say we should not just try to survive next year, but right now that may be some achievement.
Still, we’ve stayed up and well done lads and to SEB. The guy who scored the goal to take us up and to keep us up.
Done and dusted. Kippers and custard. Easy easy easy easy easy….etc…etc….etc. Happy days and good times. Roll on the world cup.
First of all, there is still a chance we will get 2 or more points before the end of the season. Any additional points will be very important because some players may look at point total instead of table standings because of the weakness of some of the lowest teams.
I think some of us have to be more realistic about signings over the summer. Just because we want a player to come to the team doesn’t mean they will. Look at Keane for example.
What the team has to do is try to improve. Pick the main weaknesses and go after a good top half of the table player to strengthen that position. If we cannot substantially improve those positions, then strengthen them where possible. Every position is in need of strengthening if we hope to reach the top half of the table and if our weakest positions cannot be strenghtened immediately, then we should look to improve wherever we can.
Clive if that’s the younger Jones in Houston I’m suprised at your attitude you Know sweet FA for a once Block Coubtry boy, me I have an appointment back on planet earth! Well done Mick and the lads and here’s to kicking on next season building sustainably for future Prem years. Codsall boys make most noise when they play with Tonka toys, Smestow 4 ever.
Clive the younger?? Good God no, that would make his (unknown) father Methusula!!!!
Methinks you have been away from planet Earth for a long time, like forever.
We have blogs for personal abuse and ignorance and stupidity.
This is not one of them.
Opinions and criticism, yes. Downright rudeness and petty moronism, no.
However, if you wish to continue, be warned, you are messing with the master of urine extraction, and you will not last the summer!
FOWB
Opinions maybe but relevance to being a supporter zilch. Thank goodness you’re in Texas home to the right wing bible bashing racist gun toting apolgies for humanity. As for your extraction abilities more like being savaged by a dead sheep. see you I prefer a supportes blog anyway
A superb blog Thomas. Thanks for expressing all my sentiments (about Mick. the season and the way forward) so precisely. Saves me the trouble!
Like everyone else I’m lookig forward to a summer of World Cup footy and all the speculation over ins and outs at the Mol.
Hapy Days!
How nice does it feel to have a couple of games left to enjoy? and without having to worry about the results of other teams.
well done Mick and the boys – mission accomplished.
We’ve signed some s**t along the way (Hof, Halford, Castillo, Surman). We’ve seen some terrible performances at home (blues, wigan, portsmouth). But fair play to MM as through being better organised than the rest of the relegation threatened teams we are staying up.
Excited about the players we will sign in the summer, glad to have another season of the superb coverage sky give the premier league and throw in a local derby on top just for good measure!
Enjoy the feeling Wolves fans – ’cause we are premier league!
Yeah, to be fair to Mick he said before the Liverpool game that he could see 4-4-2 wasn’t working as he could see we weren’t gonna score many goals. So he shored up the defence to make sure we stayed solid and it paid off. Fair play to Mick for not being afraid to throw out his trusty 4-4-2
Great achievement but the target for next season is the same; staying up.
Ok… we have survived, but it’s hardly been attractive. There is not many of the current squad that can drive us up the table. We need a mass clearout and Morgan needs to buy 4 or 5 really good quality players. We need to offload Iwelumo, Ward, Edwards, Friend, Halford, Castillo, Hoffmesiter…keep players like Blake, Vokes, Jones, Zubar,Gued and Milijas as squad players.
We have the nucleus of a decent side…. Doyle, Henry, Mancienne, Jarvis, Berra and USA…. supplement these with the 4 or 5 quality players….which may cost 25mill or so…and push on to mid table next season.
We need to avoid 2nd season syndrome at all costs
Agree with every word you say Dazza. Well, except that I might also keep Edwards as one of the squad players.
I don’t mind if we keep to the same mind-numbing 4-5-1 system away from home next year. But for the love of God let’s have some attacking and attractive football at home to cheer. Oh, and let’s widen the pitch again too.
Y’all didn’t mention Craddock.
What’s he done to you??!!
FOWB
Attacking and attractive football……hmmm….yes… I remember that ( said in Basil Fawlty style)
Daz, I want some word eating. “Definitely going down” – Bollocks!
Mid table, 25 mil, get rid if Ward? I think you are over estimating the board and moxey, mm (he won’t sell all of those players) and our team.
We won’t spend 25 mik, probably 15 and we certainly won’t change this winning (drawing) formula. Next season’s target is 17th and higher, be more realistic mate.
No,i have’nt tried one of those wigs, are they any good?I had one made out of bum hair but it kept blowing off.
just in case anyone was wondering,i posted this as a reply to someone using this blog to advertise wigs, the advert bit having now been deleted.I am a Wolves fan, honest.I’m not just a baldy on the wrong web site.
It was probably Scooped, eh, Ben??!!

Very proud of the lads and delighted for Big Mick. The team he put out against Blackburn is testament to what he has achieved. An eleven made up of 4 full backs, one man up top, which on paper looked like it would barely trouble the top 6 of the Championship, let alone the bottom 6 of the Premier League.
But he gets every ounce of effort from them, and has done a remarkable job, bearing in mind the constraints he has had (wouldn’t pay 5k more for Dann a week; no money spent in January)
A remarkable season all in all, and very proud of all of them.
PS: How good was Elokobi on Saturday?!
Here here mate, Big George was class. As he has been for the last few games. It’s a good job Mick’s got more belief in his players than some of the fans.
Could be worse, you could be a Grimsby fan! In fact I think I have found the Grimsby ‘Dazza from Brisbane’!!!!!! ha,ha,ha!
Taken from one of there bolgs… (and Wolves get a mention!)
Now I’m as optimistic as anyone when it comes to this tw@t of a football club, but after this afternoon’s latest capitulation it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee – we’re f*cked. Down. Goners. Non-league. To be honest I didn’t know how it would affect me, it’s not like it hasn’t been coming, but tonight I just feel absolutely deflated. Absolutely f*cking devastated.
I can’t get away from these emotions, I just want the whole world to just fúck off and leave me alone. To help me come to terms with this whole mess, I’ve decided to compile a list of everyone and everything I want to f*ck off most of all.
For starters, work can f*ck off. If they think I’m going to be there on Monday morning they’ve got another thing coming. No way am I going in to spend time dealing with c***s that I can barely stand being with when I’m in a good mood, let alone this crushing feeling of anger, frustration and outright metaphorical-kicked-in-the-b*llocks-ness.
Plastic Premier League fans can f*ck off. I just spoke to my Manchester United supporting neighbour (who incidentally, has been to Old Trafford before – twice) about Town’s predicament. You know what he said? “I know how you feel; it’s like when we failed to win a trophy in ’95”. NO IT F*CKING WELL IS NOT!
He no longer has a face.
The girlfriend can definitely f*ck off. Her best attempt at consolation – “I don’t know why you’re bothered; you knew they were shít anyway”. Yes love, but they’re MY shít team. They’ve been MINE for pretty much as long as I’ve been able to wipe my own árse, and they’ll be MINE for as long as I’m alive (or at least, until I’m no longer able to wipe my own árse). Truth is, watching my team win does things for me that no woman can. If push comes to shove and I’m horny, I can always have a wánk.
Barrow can f*ck off. I’ve been all over the country and beyond to watch my team, but frankly I just don’t have the stomach to visit any town which makes Scunthorpe look like f*cking St. Tropez.
Dad, you can f*ck off. This is your fault. Your idea. You introduced me to this shower of shít. “Come with me to Blundell Park”, you said, “Come and support the boys”. What could I do? I was f*cking four, what choice did I have? Why not get me hooked on Heroin whilst you were at it? I could have gone with mum shopping for bras and knickers at British Home Stores, but no, you knew best.
Granted, I’d have probably grown up a homosexual but surely even being simultaneously búggered two guys named Seth and Quentin couldn’t hurt like this.
Seeing as we’re on the subject of homosexuality, Gok Wan can f*ck off. No particular reason, I just plain don’t like the annoying, goggle-eyed c*nt.
The F.A. can f*ck off. Not for supplying us, week-in, week- out, with inept referee after inept referee, but for imposing sensible financial rules on all clubs in League Two. How many clubs in this division have been into administration this season? Not one. How many points deducted? Not one. How the f*ck else are we supposed to avoid relegation – footballing merit? We didn’t have to last season, so why spoil the fun now?
The World Cup can f*ck off – I don’t care anymore.
My local pizza shop can f*ck off. I ordered a 12″ Pepperoni over an hour ago, and where the f*ck is it? Are they trying to f*cking fly it to me or something?
Sky Sports can f*ck off. Nothing personal, but there’ll be little need for me next season with no Town to be found anywhere. Ooh, Bolton versus Wolves, LIVE. I think I’ll pass…
The radio can f*ck off. On my way home from the match, whilst driving down the M180, I caught three completely separate stations playing ‘Down’ by Jay Sean at the exact same f*cking time. The song’s the best part of a year old, how the f*ck does that happen by coincidence!?
My nan’s old lucky Buddha that used to sit in her front room can f*ck off. When I was a kid I held it in my hands and wished for Town to be in the Premier League. I meant the proper one you fat cúnt, not the one occupied by Histon, Eastbourne and for f*ck’s sake, Ebbsfleet, wherever that is.
Tonight can f*ck off. I’ve had enough of trying to cope with my emotions; the time has come for oblivion. I haven’t kept any booze in the house since an occasion known only as ‘That Night’ by myself and the missus, but suffice to say that the toilet duck and luminous blue mouthwash are looking like stronger propositions by the minute.
Most of all though, the last 10 years can f*ck off. In that time I’ve watched my team fall from the top of the Championship into non-league nothingness. We’ve gone from one great big f*ck up to the next without even coming up for air, and today is just the big, fúck off cherry on top.
One thing I’m sure of though is that we WILL be back. When it comes down to it, a football club is basically just a set of supporters, and frankly what I’ve learned in the last few years is that this one has some of the best. We’ve had to put up with some shít, haven’t we boys, but in spite of all of that the future is still bright – it’s f*cking black and white.
Grimsby ’til I die…
One of the best and funniest pieces of writing I have read in a long time.
FOWB
Excellent! I wouldn’t call him the Grimsby Dazza though. On the contrary, he kicks off with “Now I’m as optimistic as anyone …” 😉
Quality, at least he cares i spose
That’s an incredible piece of writing from the Grimsby fan. Poetic almost.
As for our wonderful Wanderers – if next season we show the fight we have over the last few months, cut out the dire shows against Brum and Wigan at home and build on the glimpses of potential we’ve occassionally shown – home to Fulham and away at West Ham spring to mind – then I’ll happily keep spending every other weekend at Molineux.
Given our current pretty good financial position, another couple of seasons in the Prem should give us plenty of cash to throw about to help us push up the table.
Also is it true that every league position higher we finish is worth an extra 750k? If so then finishing 14th seems like a fairly important goal for us…that money could go some way towards the next Halford or Maierhofer!
Still £900k to spend on Hof if we stay up believe it or not!
Well done ‘Taff’ – another success!
