Central midfield is the issue.

I know we’ve all got opinions on individuals operating in different areas of the pitch, but I’m convinced if Paul Lambert can address this one deficiency, we’ll do good things next season.
Against Blackburn and again on Tuesday in the defeat to Huddersfield, there was no attacking impetus from central areas, other than the times Ben Marshall stepped inside to make something happen.
Lambert’s got seven first team midfielders on the books (Edwards, Coady, Price, Evans, Saville, Saiss and Oniangue) and no combination is good enough in possession to consistently do what’s required.
If you want willing runners, closing down and all the ugly stuff then the above will do that (hence why we’ve taken some big away wins this season). You might keep two or three of them for this purpose.
But get rid of four or five of the above, bring in two better technicians and also look to extract the most from the likes of Enobakhare and Ronan who also have the necessary skillset.
Derby
If one team have underwhelmed more than Wolves this season, it’s got to be Derby. Cash was splashed again to help Nigel Pearson reconfigure an already capable squad to his liking.
Vydra and Anya arrived from Watford with lots of Championship pedigree and with others already there like Ince, Johnson and Butterfield, it seemed inconceivable they wouldn’t make the play-offs.
But looking at the table with two games to go, it’s clear they’re nowhere near. The higher powers at the club have to take responsibility for bad appointments and/or not showing enough patience.
It did look at one stage that Steve McLaren was going to get it going again, but after a good run of victories it was back to inconsistency and he also bit the bullet.
Gary Rowett seems like a very good manager, but you wonder how much time he’ll be given at Pride Park if they don’t get out the traps quickly next season?
Wolves
It would be pretty handy to have Helder Costa fit again. I really hope this injury is serious enough to be keeping him out and it’s nothing to do with his imminent departure. Sadly, I’m not convinced.

If he is able to make it back, the above is the team I’d play. Burgoyne might be our only fit keeper but I’d persevere with him anyway, despite letting in a soft goal in midweek. Incidentally, I was surprised Lambert chose to throw him under the bus for that in his post-match summary.
Both Silvio and Iorfa are playing for their futures so let them carry on I say. Despite a few wobbly moments I thought Silvio did some good things and showed strong positional play. We’ll be in the market for at least one full back in the summer and if he can convince over his fitness, he could be like a new signing.
My instinct is that Price, Coady and Edwards are the three to keep. Price because we know he can perform when partnered with better technical players. Coady because he can occupy different positions and Edwards for goals and impact.
But none should be nailed on starters next term and to compensate for what we lack moving going forwards in midfield tomorrow, I’d play an attacking trio behind Weimann who still looks like he’s got the bounce in his step to do something.
Predictions
I don’t think we’ll see anything like my proposed lineup tomorrow, but this could be a decent game for our try-hards to camp out and spring on the break as they did at Elland Road.
Derby have good quality though and I’m expecting them to ultimately put us to the sword at a ground where we’ve struggled to compete in recent years.
2-1 to the Rams.
There is a lot valuable bets out there before you place one make sure to do it on a reputable site, check out the SBR rating guide of betting sites
Up the Wolves!

Would have to disagree with the 3 to keep. Price/Edwards proven failures at this level, and neither can tackle. If any of those 3 are in the starting 11 in the first game of next season i’d expect Lambert to last 10 games max.
Seems a bit knee jerk Jasper.
Edwards made 44 appearances in the Championship the year we won the league and has netted 10 goals this season, so I don’t think you can label him a proven failure at this level. Price has been very in and out and Coady shifted around, but agree they haven’t convinced over a long period.
I’m not saying any of those three should be regulars next season, but I do think all could contribute as squad players. They have certain attributes that are useful in and out of possession.
Logic on the others:
Saiss – Not my cup of tea. Poor mans Milijas. Doesn’t get around the pitch, constantly a yard off the pace and games pass him by. Can pass, but too often misses the mark and loses the ball in very dangerous areas.
Saville/Evans – Would happily switch either of these for Price with no massive fuss. I lean slightly more towards Price because he’s the tidiest in possession and could well off a technician e.g. as in previous games alongside McDonald.
Oniangue – Assuming he’s off as Lambert bombed him out. He definitely has something, but I’m not convinced he’d last a full season and we can’t afford to experiment.
Saiss and Oniangue formed a good partnership in my opinion until Oniangue was injured. They were both excellent when we beat Newcastle on their own patch.Unfortunately they were never given a chance under Lambert.I don’t see any of our present midfielders being anywhere near good enough long term and this has become more apparent in recent games when all combinations have been woeful. Of the midfielders we have access to I can only see Saiss and Oniangue being effective and remember Oniangue can score goals.
Weimann cant play tomorrow as they are playing against his club.
Wolves scouts should go out and search the market for the best midfielders possible. If the midfielders we have aren’t as good as the new players, they should move on. Easy. Last time around I think the procedure was opposite. They renewed the contracts of the players we already had, then just before the season started they began to bring in “reinforcements”. This was also the case under Solbakken. A recipe of disaster.
The “reinforcements”: Oniangue and Teixera
Edwards has been a real key player over the years, PL now plays him in deep central midfield which is Edwards worst position. In behind the stroker is the best role he often gets his goals by stealth in the box when he ghosts in unmarked. Playing deep central midfield shows his weakness in tackling and regaining possession consistently. A good squad player that can get goals when played in the right role, not a centre midfield ball winner od a real creator.
A nothing game probably lose this one
Just want the season to finish
Try get some players of our wage bill bring in some decent first teasers enjoy the meal lads. Up the wolves
Get yourself down to APV mate. Would be good to meet you.
First 5-1 of the season will be the last game at Preston to finish off our miserable season with a sweetener. Tomorrow however, at Pride Park, we are going to find ourselves under the cosh in my opinion. I would normally therefore predict us getting beat, but we am Wolves ay we so ……..
First teamers sorry
I quite liked first teasers.
Is that anything like an appe-teaser?
Is that a teaser on your mobile phone?
I too was surprised young Burgoyne got criticised by Lambert for a soft goal. The last thing you want to do is to cause a loss of confidence in your only fit keeper. Bizarre, when Lambert has ignored serial and experienced offenders in some of his post-match summaries. The usual suspects get off lightly and a rookie keeper gets roasted.
Onto the Derby match. At least we are not the only underperforming side in the Championship. It all depends on which Wolves side turns up, and if Costa is playing. I can’t see 3 points but I can see 1.
I once worked for a company which never, ever let management criticize employees in public.
Bollock them behind closed doors, but present a united front to customers.
We fans are the Wolves customers, and as such, should be presented with a positive, united front by everyone concerned at the club.
No manager should be allowed to vent about individuals in public.
That is petty and passing the buck, big time.
You picked the team, Lambert, you accept the shit when your choices dont perform.
Funny Edwards is never criticized.
Easy three points termorra, 5-1 guaranteed.
Far Cough wb
Yeah, and then when that happens, people complain that Lambert thinks we are stupid or gullible.
I didn’t think Weimann could play tomorrow? Dicko instead.
Good point. I overlooked this.
Coin toss between Dicko and Bod for me.
I’d choose Dicko or Mason. We need players with speed in this game. I predict that most of our chances will be created on counter attacks.
Another damp squib of a performance. Its usually a tough place to go to, and this team doesn’t inspire confidence.Hope to god it gets better next season, its hard work being a Wolves supporter.
It’s not only us that are staggered by Lambert’s crazy ramblings. He’s now starting to worry me.
But still going for an away win, Derby poor team after all their purchases so expecting a decent game with Wolves 12th man allocation sold out, the away corner having a Deesco regardless of the performance, Derby will be rockin one way or another.
So, 1-0 to Wolves in a scrappy fast game, Ben Marshall to score.
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/04/28/wolverhampton-wanderers-fans-react-strongly-to-paul-lamberts-sum/
COMB’s
Stu,
If we are having a deesco tomorrow, can I have the last dance seeing as Susan is letting me go to Derby on my own ?
Your on.
I’m not driving for a chage so might just do a cheeseburger and get pissed.
Forgot to post my score, although the chances of me winning the prediction league are about the same as Wolves beating Preston on the final Sunday.
As Mark P pointed out above, no Weimann today so Nouha will play.
Our best results and performances have come away from home, which must prove very frustrating for the Molineux faithful. This could well prove to be another away day steal, where we show defensive toughness which seems to totally elude us at home, and speed and incision on the break which will break the hearts of the Rams fans.
Please let us see Helder just one more time in the Old Gold before he departs for pastures new, preferably alongside his Portuguese amigo. Also quite impressed with Silvio in midweek so I would have no problem having the three amigos starting the game.
Nothing wrong with a bit of wishful thinking.
Price? Really? The results when he plays and when Evans is selected tell their own story. I can’t see Evans being sold having just signed a new 4(?) year contract.
Would start with Dicko up front, hope costa is fit but hope even more he plays in the last game v Preston. Agree that we need a more constructive midfield, McDonald was and we sold him !. We also need a 20+ goal/season striker. We play better away from home (mostly – WATW) will go for a Wolves win.
Our transfer dealings over the last three years have been so haphazard that every single area of the team needs an overhaul in the summer to be honest. Coincidentally me and my mates were discussing the same midfield problem the other night and debating the same seven players you listed – Edwards, Saville, Evans, Coady, Price, Oniangue & Saiss – based on keeping three or four next year and getting rid of the rest. And for the life of us we couldn’t agree on anything apart from we’d all keep Edwards but ideally only as a squad player.
As for the Derby game going for a narrow defeat as the season limps to a close.
It’s to late now to realise it – the Billericay kid http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jamie-ohara-lifts-lid-upsetting-12957709
Note to some of the “on the beach” Wolves players Always give 100% and concentrate on your career – its a short one and if you do ok plenty of time after for wine, women etc
In fact the women get better in their mature years IMO
Problem is Basher is that with some women, the longer they age the more they whine….
I know, straight red.
I recall we had a long run of wins when Jack Price was in the team over the last couple of years and failures when he wasn’t. True he was the artisan alongside McDonald the artistry, and boy do we need another midfield maestro. I tend to agree with Thomas and his selection – whether we like them or not we will still need some workhorses.
I can see us getting a result against Derby, but there again I’m delusional.
Not much to choose between these two teams, both have been disappointing this season to say the least.
Both will heave a sigh of relief when this season is over.
What team will PL put out? We might see both Zyro and Graham make appearances from the bench, that would be good. I really hope that Helda is just injured and not jetting off to pastures new, as the more cynical amongst us seem to believe. I watched the Wolves goals of the season on youtube and watching Helda and his goals was a tonic. Building a team around him would be fantastic and a massive statement from our owners and the player himself. Having said that I would expect a player of his ability to want to play at a higher level. Would not blame him at all.
Would love to predict a win but going for a draw
Stopping off the train in Burton at 10.15 for some beers. Then back on to Derby about 2.15. Not really bothered about the match. If we are 2-0 down after 20 minutes we will probably get back on the train and back to Brum for more beer. Just waiting to see the direction taken in the summer and what we come back with in August. Roll on the cricket season and the summer (if we get one). Oh and the Lions tour to NZ. Perhaps as we are away from home (top six away side!) we might get something-but it doesn’t really matter. Never mind at least we will never have to wear a Smethwick Town Tesco carrier bag. Every cloud has a silver lining ! Here is to one last away trip of the season. I have a feeling there will be lots and lots of beer drunk tomorrow….
Cheesy
Derby are doing a happy hour between 1-30 pm and 2-30 pm, everything half price, there should be some pissed up fans at ko.
Yeah, but discount for home fans only.
That’s it, Iv’e had it with feckin football, this Scotsman has been saving hard all weeek since I spotted the half price offer, I even considered buying the wife a half as well. Bugga those Derby spoilsports.
Can’t see us losing this . Derby are shit . Wolves to win 2 nil , nailed on
Graham and Dicko on the scoresheet
I would be very surprised if we got anything out of this game – however we are playing away from home. That’s our advantage. Much depends on the team selected. If Saville is in – we will lose. Not keen on some others but he is the worst. Do we actually know what injury Costa incurred during the warm up ?? What about Lonergan? Is he out for a long spell too seeing he also got injured warming up for the game.
Oh . And for what it’s worth .. I would keep Evans, Coady , Edwards
I think Evans and Coady have better games to come . Much improved this season
They couldnt have worse, could they……………………
You ve got to try and take what ever positive s you can mate . It’s been so shit following wolves this season . Apart from stoke away and Liverpool it’s been fucking dire !
I hate Derby more than Leeds ..my score prediction is a cuckoo one too but hey ho.
DB to score a hat trick….and our lot to marmelise the Derby lot on the coach car park after…plse let this season finish..
Interesting debate around the midfielders to keep and after lots of head scratching I must admit if PL shot the bloody lot out I wouldn’t be very bothered. I’m still searching for the football reason that we sold Kevin Mcdonald for, looked everywhere and still can’t bloody find it.
It’s no good looking for something that isn’t there.
Thomas, I agree with your choice of the three midfielders to keep.
Price, because, as you say, he has been successful with an artist like MacDonald. And we might get one in the close season.
Coady, because he’s adaptable and I love his attitude.
Edwards, because, although he’s absolutely hopeless, rubbish and doesn’t deserve to wear the shirt, he’s somehow managed to luckily fluke in ten jammy goals this season.
How can any man be SO lucky?
There are a dozen or so other Wolves players wondering that.
I bet you and Ben have an interesting discussion every time his name comes up.
I fancy a draw against Derby.
Penultimate game with nothing to play for – must be 3 points then.
Well said Molly Knew (like the name by the way).
I’ve compared Edwards to Martin Peters before. Maybe not in the same class but played a similar role.
Another player who was horribly underestimated during his career. It was only really after he packed it in that he was given the recognition he deserved.
I think Dave Edwards will suffer the same fate.
Such a shame that Peters has succumbed to the nemesis of many footballers of that era.
DOOGie – I know you are an intelligent chap. I therefore assume your likening of Dangerous to the England World Cup winning legend Martin Peters to be somewhat tongue in cheek and designed to provoke reaction. My only reaction would be to laugh uncontrollably until I fall over clutching my chest. We’d better get that barny on at the APV on 6th May after all!
Bedford. We will never agree about the man but I said…
‘Maybe not in the same class but played a similar role.’
More of a similarity to John Wark for me…
Molly – not sure if you are being genuine or sarcastic. Edwards in the ‘number 10’ role? A role requiring skill, creativity, vision, ability and a footballing brain. That’s a bit like saying Price’s best position would be centre back or as a target man up front. Edwards has scored 10 goals? Our strikers very few? Hmmmm lets see. Edwards scored 10, creates none = 10. A proper footballer scores none but creates 20 = 20. Which is better?
Re: 7 midfield players:
Coady – offers a bit of versatility so worth keeping
Evans – useful back-up and on a new 4 year contract so will probably stay.
The other 5 – get rid ASAP or we have no chance of competing in this division.
Oh – and ring Kevin MacDonald, get down on bended knees and beg forgiveness and then offer him a 3 year deal to come back to us.
As for tomorrow – over 3000 fans travelling so should be a good atmosphere for a ‘nothing’ game. Hopeful for a win (fuck knows why!!!) but will settle for a decent performance and a draw.
Nice to see the general consensus on Coady
I really think he’s earned the shirt this season
Not the best player but developing as a full back all the time . Going or staying ..whatever ! but well done to him for his attitude and commitment.
Costa’s gone……..as has my support for Lambertt and for that matter my faith in Jeff and Fosun. Every body saying we should get rid of this many players and that’s true but since Fosun have taken over only 3 people have left from the Morgan era or should I say error, Jackett, Moxey and Morgan himsel other than that its the same board same coaches and Therwell and our new M D have been promoted and that IMO is where Fosun are to blame and that why nothing has changed espeacilly were it matters on the pitch.
There are radical changes needed at all levels and I’m afraid until this happens nothing will change. Jeff and Fosun are try to run Wolves from China they have left people in charge who have been part of a failed ownership and that owners lack of direction and ambition. These people are failures and will continue to fail unless removed.
As for the game again sorry but not interested my interest has been well and truly dulled by this seasons unmitigated failure of players managers and yes owners.
Trigger will stick with the hapless Batth and the hopeless Price and Edwards and no doubt find a way of including the dire Saville as well. He will also do his best not to include too many of them pesky Johnny Foreigner footballers like Saiss or Cavaleiro.
Huff, puff and hoof every time for Trigger. God forbid we pick anyone who can control or trap the ball when it’s passed to them or can pass the ball forward on the floor to a gold shirt. Much better to have a central midfield comprised entirely of those who can ‘put a shift in’ eh? Oh hang on, it’s 2017 not 1997. Damn!
I can see a ‘workmanlike’ and ‘committed’ narrow defeat.
OODCL
Always seems the more a Wolves loss is predicted on this site the more our contrary team surprises us. On that basis I’m going for a win. Would like to see Bod and Dicko put together as I think a good ball winner and a quick player should be successful in the way the great Doog and the blessed Knowles combined or has this been tried and found wanting.
Bloggers,
Shall I bring some T shirts down to APV on Saturday? Do not want to commit if they wont go. Up to you what you want to pay as long as it is over a fiver and less than a tenner. My costs are just over a tenner each, so a bargain for blogger mates!!!
Brommo … I’ll have a xxl shirt please
I’ll have one please. Large? XL? Depends I guess on the volume of food and beverages consumed.
P.S. London Zoo – bugs? Bugs! Me? Google ‘Gir Lion Lodge at ZSL London Zoo’. It was fantastic. London Zoo and me go back to 1961 when they did very un-PC things like camel rides, elephant rides, the chimpanzee’s tea party (which was a hoot) and kept animals like polar bears, pandas, rhinos and elephants. I can also recall Guy the gorilla, the Silverback star attraction, reaching his hand through the bars and visitors could put a sweet or whatever in his hand. And when Goldie the golden eagle escaped and spent about a week up a tree in Regent’s Park. Imagine that now!
Great idea Brompton, put me down for a fat bastard 4xxx size tshirt.
As for tomorrow, we stand a chance as we are playing away, could be another Leeds maybe.
I1ll be working in my garden weather permitting, just amazed at the 3000 away fans travelling for a nothing game, very impressive. Hope the lads do it for you tomorrow.
Lambert is saying on the Wolves website and E&S that the players are tired out after playing so many games, poor dears. Yet he still plays Edwards every week ( including Tuesdays) despite him ‘running on empty’. Now he’s saying that we need to bring a few new players in to ‘give us a hand’, as if we’re short of staff. There are 35 on the books, but the only ones committed to the club are the likes of Stearman and Edwards, who need pensioning off. Half that 35 are not good enough and the other half not all that committed to Wolves, except perhaps some of the Wolves promising Academy lads.
Costa will not play again this season (official), and is sure to be going somewhere his talents can be better utilised ( and earn much more money ).
I reckon we could do worse than let our youngsters step up, we have nearly enough to make a team, with the addition of about 4 new Championship, or e Premiership professionals.
It’s 3 to 1 against an away win tomorrow, 80 to 1 for 3 nil, here’s hoping they’ll perform one of those away specials !
Who knows or even cares at this stage of this bloody awful season.
I will take a draw but hope for a win
Ordered mate. Should arrive on the 8th.
See you and Border Wolf on the 6th.
Newark Wolf is heading from Notts to Derbys along with the other 3000 tomorrow. Used to be Newark Wolves but Susan is going to see a show in Nottingham instead. Calls herself a Wolves fan. Train from Newark usually has plenty of the sheep on so should be fun. Just hope I don’t get twatted by Wolves fans again because of my accent. I actually made The Wanderer pub go quiet once when I ordered a drink before a Forest match and they thought I was a shit fan. If any bloggers are up for a pre match pint or five in Derby please let me know.
The permutations of tomorrow’s line up count for nothing.
It’s a nothing game with a number of Wolves players trying to bust a gut for once to earn another contract….I’m often puzzled why same players turn in crap performances and then give it a right good shot when there’s the lure of contract Wonga….we’ll see who impresses.
Derby, despite having an underwhelming season have Rowett as a manager willing to grind out a result.
No joy for us tomorrow without Costa or Weimann. And Darren Bent is sure to be on the scoresheet.
Letsgetthisoverwith
Roll
On
Next season
For all you conspiracy theorists out there, ponder this, when talking about crap players.
Dave Edwards has eleven letters in his name.
He is not English.
He is the love child of a Wolves manager.
He took part in the last European Championships.
Now, look at four of the last five letters of his name………W.A.R.D.
Stephen Ward has eleven letters in his name.
He is not English.
He is the love child of a former Wolves manager.
He took part in the last European Championships.
Look at the last four letters of his name………….W.A.R.D.
Coincidence……….I think not.
I take it you’re referring to our own Stephen Ward, now plying his trade regularly in the Premier League. 🙂
Wow,
Clive your’e onto something here buddy.
Reverse the last four letters of both their names.
D R A W
Tomorrows result.
5 Feckin 1
Just look at the possible team.
Elvis
Bowie, Lennon, Wright, JFK
Evans Saville
Wagstaffe, Ball, Dougan, Costa.
NB.
Evans, Saville, Costa, not dead yet, but 2 play as if they are and the other is dead in the water.
Dipstick.
If you reverse the last four of Edwards name its Sdra.
WTF does that mean?
More Lemoncello for you next week, methinks
Roll on end of the season, another piss poor season, cup run great while it lasted but that’s about all.
Good points,Costa cav. Class when playing together.pitty we might lose them both.
If by chance we lose the last two games,It will be interesting to see how Fosun will assess the season and their investment.??????????.
And THE Plank.
Logic after recent weeks would suggest we’ll play out another drab draw or Derby will nick it with the only shot on target of the whole game. But we don’t seem to do logic, so Bodvarsson will probably run riot and bag a brace.
I don’t know too much about sports so can one of you enlighten me to the logic of playing counter-attacking football against a team that isn’t attacking?
Thanks in advance.
(Maybe that’s how things are done in the Championship with British managers and coaches. Would explain why it is so hard to get out of the division.)
Players back from long injuries, players out of position, multiple changes, nothing significant to play for* – just don’t see us mustering enough fluency to get something out of the game.
* They should have something to play for – like pride, respect etc But even selfish matters like playing for their own contract / livelihood don’t seem to motivate them.
Will need to make some drastic changes to get anything out of these last two games.
Absolutely nothing game apart from playing some no hopers in the wrong position to see if they may be of any use at all next season .
Glad when its all over !!!!
Never thought i would look forward to the cricket season.
At least we have the lions tour to look forward to and watch some proper blokes willing to die for their team.
BORED ALREADY
Totally agree with Thomas about sorting it out during the break. As far as today goes, based on our away form I’m going for a counter-atacking win but bring ing on the summer!
Forgot to say on the 7 midfielders debate that there are only 3 worth keeping. Saiss, Coady and Oniangue. The other four – Edwards, Evans, Saville and Price are serial failures and are light years away from where we need to be. Or do we want to be League 1 or mid-table Championship?
I see in the E&S today that Trigger is saying the team needs a break as they are all tired. Ah, poor little bunnies. Super-fit, very well paid professional athletes are tired? What a pathetic thing to say. Some like Iorfa, Williamson, Saiss and Silvio have hardly played. Others like Dicko, Graham and Mason haven’t played much due to injury. Marshall was frozen out at Blackburn before his transfer so hasn’t played a full season either. Also Trig if that’s the case why pick Edwards every single game eh? The man talks nonsense.
Let’s just get these last two out if the way then enjoy the summer break
Couldn’t agree more Ferris.
The last 2 home games have been abject, clueless and really emphasised the complete lack of quality in most of our bloated squad.
Fosun need to invest heavily in the summer in quality – but will they?.
UTW!
A mate of mine is a sheep fan and we both thought this game would be huge when we first saw the fixture list!!! Na
Without the two c’s not much creativity and too much hoof ball for my liking so don’t see us getting anything against rowett and co
Somebody said bod and dicko up front! Blimey that would be adventurous, pl doesn’t play two up top at home never mind away
Hope my score is wrong for the 3000 though
Utw
It’s hard to know which team is going to turn up, so all I can do is go on hope, but without any conviction.
Would like a win but more likely a draw.
Roll on next season.
COYW
A nothing game, roll on the end of the season. The only positives are that lambert has a chance to build up the match fitness of Graham and give some of the young lads some more playing time, especially Burgoyne, Gibbs-White and Wilson.
As mentioned by pretty much everyone else a serious clear out/re-build is needed this summer. Over to you lambert, let’s see what you can do…
Yawn, yawn, yawn…….we will hit the ground running, we’re planning next season now, we’re………I wish I had a job that was well paid, a job I’d love, that I could underperform, make excuses, say the right things, and have a few months off to recuperate because I’ve worked hard the last few months
Listening to Thiery Henery on soccer AM this morning what a Director of Football he would make more knowledge in his little toe than Therwell and the rest of them put together………..IF only we had owners with the balls and Ambition to get someone of his calibre.
Two interesting facts from the BBC website;
Only Nottingham Forest (141) have made more line-up changes than Wolves (128) in the Championship.
Wolves and Derby, along with Birmingham, have conceded more goals (12 each) from corners than any other team in the Championship.
Leeds away was a fabulous result. Maybe Wolves will surprise us all again, but then maybe not. Derby away is a tough one and they will want to finish their home season on a high.
I imagine PL will want to ring the changes, especially as he is making a great play about how tired the players are. Bring on the youngsters.
Re the midfielders, my ones to keep going forward would be Coady, Evans and Edwards. I’m not going to go into the latters’ merits other than say what a good (admittedly, well paid) servant he has been to the club and could be used sparingly next season whilst also sharing his experience with the younger players.
He not a midfielder though, yes may be behind front two or one because that’s all lambert plays up front but never in midfield he just not creative enough.
Agreed Paul. I can’t really see anything more than a peripheral role for him next season. After these last few games I’m not sure who will still be around come the start of the new season.
Last chance to break into the top ten of the prediction league.
It’s an away game so no worries. Might even see Dicko score a double.
3-1 down but the noise coming from the Wolves fans is amazing. So proud.
The poor little lambs are tired, said Trigger
So he plays Saville Edwards and Evans
You couldnt make this shit up
Get yer fuckin’ act together over the next couple of months Trigger, or you gonna feel the Molineux Wrath
OMG. Guess that limoncello needs to be chilled as I am sure getting on it.
Can’t wait for next season.
ANO – So Trigger you reckon the lads are tired so what’s the team for Derby?
Trigger – Edwards. First name on the teamsheet. Captain. Legend.
ANO – But Trig, Edwards has played every single game since late November last year and if anyone needs a break its him.
Trigger – Right. So Edwards plays. Captain. Legend. Play him in the creative number ten schemer role.
ANO – Really? Ok you’re the boss.
Trigger – So tell me about Derby.
ANO – their main threat is down the flanks with their two pacey wingers Russell and Ince.
Trigger – Hmmmm, right then we’ll play two one paced midfielders as our two full backs.
ANO – What? Why?
Trigger – They’re British!
ANO – Ok Trig, but with the tiredness factor using our three substitutions might be crucial especially if we end up chasing the game.
Trigger – Yes indeed! Absolutely. So we’ll confuse them all by only using two.
Paul ‘Trigger’ Lambert. No idea, no hope.
If it wasn’t for the Bloggers Ballbash next weekend I wouldn’t go to the Preston game. In fact despite having already renewed my season ticket I am finding it very hard to get motivated for another season if Trigger is still in charge. I don’t want to endure another season of boring and limited football with the likes of Batth, Stearman, Saville, Price, Evans and Edwards (captain and legend) running around like headless chickens, huffing and puffing and hoofing and hoping. I want to watch proper football. For that we need a 21st century manager who understands the modern game. Can we prise Marco Silva away from Hull? If so then do it. Trigger will only be capable of overseeing another season of mid table mediocrity.
OODCL
One up front AGAIN……….Lambertt is clueless sets up every game the same home or away but changes the personnel every game and plays players out of the natural postion……and some still think should give him time, yeah in Penn Hospital with all the other poor deluded souls.
At the end of every season for a long time now I’ve felt optimistic about the coming season.
Not this season.
With the pantomime villains banished (the Ugly Sisters Moxey-Mo) and a new moneyed owner in, all looked set fair last July that the bad times had gone.
Ironic innit?
We were Absolutely fabulous, from the starting whistle, even when we went down we were outstanding.
Now, if you Lambert you plank, can get the team to perform as well as the fans you would be in The Premiership already.
3100 voices never stopped trying, oh for a team of players that had as much passion.
I wonder what will happen to PL if we lose next Sunday, these guys are struggling to play any kind of football.
Roll on the Fosun awakening.
Lambert, I don’t think your’e the man, if you prove me wrong it’s a win, win situation.
Come on the 2017/18 season, you can’t come quick enough.
There will be no match report from me, the game was one sided and the team in control were very poor.
Wolves fans you were Epic.
May The Fosun be with us…!
British manager gets on a hot streak. “I told you we needed a British manager who knows the Championship”.
I guess all of you guys have to learn but you seem old enough to have seen this kind of thing before.
When will you learn?
So the questions are:
Do they keep Lambert or see if someone else might be interested?
How will changing the manager again so soon affect the stability and reputation of the team?
Was Lambert any more successful than Zenga and were his games more or less entertaining?
Opinions please – except that guy in Texas.
Thanks for your thoughts Amanda, I missed you.
Be interesting to see if you have the character to come down to APV on the 6th to discuss your thoughts in person.
The guy from Texas would be pleased to see you.
I’m Tim and I live in North America so, no I will not be visiting you.
It cannot all be down to these players as bad as some of them are. The coach should take responsibility also.
And so your saying keep Lambertt because he hasn’t had much time, well he had 2 thirds of a season and after speaking to some Villa fans he is treading the same path with Wolves as he did with Villa, definition of a fool, keep doing the same thing over and over again, ie tactics formation players out of postion to many changes every game, and expecting it to work.
So we keep him, ill make a prediction now ill put my he on the block, if Wolves keep him they will be sacking him come November…..there.
Well just have to see now whos right and who wrong.
Just got home and I have to say my ears are still ringing. A Derby fan at the station said to me that you would have thought we had won the league the noise your fans were making. It’s days like this that make you proud to be a Wolves fan. Unfortunately the team didn’t show the same passion as the fans. In fact, did anyone else notice at the end Hause refused to do the Iclandic clap and sulked off back to the dressing room ?
If Lambert is given more time then it will result in more heartache. He’s a numptie.
Lose next week and he should be shifted out as quick as possible, the football is definitely worse now, where is the dpfight, the heart and the showing we saw at Stoke and Liverpool.
The Fans deserve better.
I’m watching Thierry Henry too and agree, grow some Fosun let’s think big and they don’t come any bigger than Thierry.
Henry? For a player or manager?
Dog almighty, what a thought, if only.
The guy could still do a job for us compared to our mishmash of starlets.
He’s 1 million miles ahead of Paul Lambert, I don’t know if you get much of his interviews and commentating over in the US, but he talks so much sense it’s embarrassing listening to the other “experts”
I watched him today on Soccer AM brilliant passion is still there intense amazing.
He a real winner when was the last time we had one of those at Molinuex not since the fifties.
Loving this, 65 years old and I’d wear one.

That looks great, thanks for the link 🙂
I saw them, robbing bastards. You can get one without the crest for half the price and sew on your own badge. I thought you would have sussed that being a jock lol
But my sewing skills are on par with our Strikers ability to score a goal – shite!
Anywho I’ve ordered mine
🙂
You coming to APV on Saturday mate? Be good to catch up.
Nope, I have spent too much on a new subwoofer, new sofa, garden makeover etc. Hopefully I will get there one year.
🙂
And a new bomber jacket lol.
Oh yeah and that bomber jacket 🙂
Tim…
I think everyone is jumping the gun.
We have no idea what is going on behind the scenes.
So people are suggesting we find another manager, to manage Dave Edwards and the like?
That it is Lambert’s fault we have the likes of Savile, Price, Coady, Evans, Mason Baath?
No it is not.
They were here before he was.
I imagine no one at the club feels very safe and the way they play reflects this.
Insecurity reigns but I suggest Jeff Shi assured Lambert he would have Fosun’s support to make changes in the summer if we stayed up.
Saying he is doomed owing to the last games I find ridiculous.
As for Theirry Henry, he may make an eloquent commentator, but I doubt his ability to get as out of the championship…
We are stuck with Lambert and let’s hope the changes he makes this summer take us in the right direction.
Lambertt ok Evans and Edwards 4 year contracts…………that tells me all I need to know about Lambertts jugement and ability.
Oh and Batth..!
Robin
It’s not Lambert’s fault the crap players are at the club, but it is his fault that he picks them.
If he cannot see what we all can, especially as he trains them, and still keeps putting out the same garbage players just rotating positions, then surely he aint up to the job.
However, as stated, we dont know what is going on behind closed doors, so as frustrating as it might be, I teeth-grindingly agree we have to wait and see what transpires over the next few weeks.
The biggest and most anticipated event of the season is next weekend.
No, not the CFH arrival on those verdant shores, but the Bloggers Ball at PVH.
All those of you who aint been before, and especially those of you who disagree with me, please try and make an appearance, I would love to let y’all buy me a drink as we discuss our differences!
Nice result from bottomdweller town yesterday.
Clive I’d love to meet you and find out if you’re really the cuddly teddy so many claim. So far I’ve had to take their word for it ‘cos it not evident in your posts though you are big enough to put your hands up when you accept fault
Significant birthday next weekend and I’m obliged to turn up at my party. Maybe next year if spared.
Clive….
I agree with you.
However he has to put out a team!
Lol….
May everyone who attends, enjoy the bloggers ball!
Am sure it will be more exciting than the final game…..
Just a thought to cheer us Wolves fans up.
Blackburn’s crowd yesterday was 22,000, staggeringly 12,000 of those were Villa fans, the most they have taken away.
Blackburn 1- 0 Villa.
Love or hate them it’s a case of, the fans let down again.
Actually don’t mind losing today, bizarre I know but had we won and then win the last game it could cloud the judgment of those in charge, at least this way we can see how crap some of the squad ate and so help recognise where we need to strengthen,
You didn’t need to be Nostradamus to predict a loss today, and you don’t have to be Aristotle to know what the plank has to say in his post game coments but as that great Chinese philosopher once said all those years ago ” wolves ay we ”
Well done the 3000 today. Loud n proud I hear
Utw
sorry the geezers name was Confucius btw
