Derby were magnificent.

To lose by such a margin and not acknowledge the point would be churlish.
They played with a verve and energy that Wolves couldn’t cope with and scored a variety of goals that demonstrate the quality they possess throughout the side.
I would however take issue with Steve McLaren, who called it a ‘complete performance’ in his post match analysis.
The fact of the matter is, Derby didn’t ever have to exit first gear to secure their most comfortable victory of the season. They were never tested.
Wolves have to learn quickly that they must earn the right to play their way by first engaging the opposition on a more fundamental level.
Indeed, both teams came into the game with a reputation for sophisticated possession football but the home side won the day by demonstrating the most basic of characteristics – desire.
Wolves were a second slower to every ball up to and including Ryan Shotton’s bullet header that Carl Ikeme could only palm into his own net.
And if our talented goalkeeper was disappointed not to have kept that out, he won’t have enjoyed being beaten from distance by Jeff Hendrick’s 25-yard fizzer either. On another day, he saves both of those.
Goal three was as simple as it was ridiculous, with Wolves somehow contriving to have every player back yet still allow Johnny Russell the freedom of the eighteen yard box. Game over.
Four and five were all about individual and collective quality that good teams can inflict when the opposition are chasing the game. Hendrick’s second and Derby’s fourth was particularly sublime.
Six shots on target. Five goals. Ruthless and emphatic.
You can definitely say it was ‘one of those days’ for the Rams as everything they did came off, but you make your own luck and Wolves deservedly conjured little.
The one moment of class inevitably came from Bakary Sako, whose sumptuous reverse pass opened the gates for George Saville who could only blaze over when an equaliser seemed inevitable.
Had that gone in, perhaps momentum shifts and a landslide becomes a contest? Instead, the profligacy proved costly.
It sounds ludicrous to turn the spotlight on the attacking third when goals were flying in at the other end, but without Dicko anchoring the front line, the ball might as well have been a boomerang for our back four.
Leon Clarke is desperately ineffective. Slow, ponderous and with a woe is me approach that saps energy from our once dynamic team. He’s wasting an opportunity he’s waited six months for. A scuffed, deflected effort off the post aside, he was handled comfortably throughout.
Saville was equally anonymous on his return from exile and did little to enhance his claims for a regular start. The terrible miss aside though, was it entirely his fault?
A midfield trio of McDonald, Evans and Saville (with Clarke at the summit) surely lacked the attacking menace required to make Derby think about what was going in the opposite direction? All it did was invite them forward.
Surely van La Parra or Jacobs would have added some much needed pace and devilment to a team that desperately lacked both of those key ingredients?
Kenny didn’t agree and neither even made it off the bench as Wolves disintegrated, raising yet more questions about our respected leader’s team selection.
With two weeks to assess the wreckage of this meek surrender, I just hope he can deliver some answers.

I agree with everything apart from items. I don’t think he saves either he did Fantastic to even get close to the first one and a ball skidding off a wet surface is incredibly difficult to judge I speak as a keeper who’s played plenty in the rain. We simply have no strength in depth I think Bath is being found out and this is his genuine level. Teams press us yet we don’t seem to have the same energy lately to do it back. I see nothing from any of the new signings that fills me with optimism. The only hope is we bring in some players throughout the spine of the team. Many teams in this division will be in the same boat look fantastic one week and awful the next. One things for sure this is gonna be a very exciting league.
Perfectly summed up Thomas, our lack of desire being the most disappointing aspect of the performance, coupled with the fact we were playing with 9 men ( Clarke and Saville were passengers).
Yesterday was also a reality check, we need to be able to dig in and play physical when required, we are better than yesterdays performance, the international break has come at the right time.
UTW
Performances have been poor of late and Derby took advantage of what seems to be a team lacking in confidence and desire.
I’m worried KJ is starting to pick his favourites and deny others a run in the team.
One thing I can’t take anymore is Clarke’s inclusion. Whilst none of this is his fault, he is (as a lone striker) the main focul point and is nowhere near good enough.
He was a mistake and is a blot on KJ’s good transfer record to date. He didn’t cost much, so offload him in January. I’d re-sign SEB or bring back Siggy, as both players are far superior then Leon. Hopefully rumours are true that we are in for Dwight Gayle.
Our midfield was very poor and one paced. Saville has done nothing of note so far and Evans needs a break. At 19 years old he can’t be expected to deliver week in week out and sometimes looks a little bit too cocky in possession.
Rowe should be reinstated in midfield alongside McDonald (who is also in his worst form since joining).
I would play Jacobs or VLP in the No.10 so we have a player in the team willing to run at speed and take people on.
Up front and without any new signings I’d give McAlinden or VLP a go, as it least they have a similar style to Dicko and will close down defenders quicker and run into the channels, unlike Clarke.
A central defender on loan is also a priority. Stearman should be recalled over Ebanks-Landell who isn’t ready. Batth is worryingly out of sorts but needs someone to take the pressure off him. If Golborne is still injured Ricketts would be my preference over Rowe at left back.
A lot of work on the training ground is required and a January freshen up like last year is a priority. With the right additions we are capeable of a top 6 finish, without them it’s mid table at best.
Before the countless comments about Wolves being out of their depth in this league and Kenny being tactically naive come flooding in, let’s take a considered view on the season so far.
We have played most of the teams in the division and have competed with them all – apart from Derby.
True, we have given away too many silly goals and let teams off the hook too often, but if we had picked up those extra points we would have been top by now.
The last three games have been a big wake up call and many of us might question the performance and team selection.
It doesn’t take a Kenny Jackett to know what we lack – and what it needs to rectify the situation.
A striker, possibly a holding midfielder and our injured players back.
Time will see to the latter and, hopefully, Morgan will see to the former.
The rest is down to the team regaining the confidence and drive that they have shown in the last twelve months.
Morgan has to put his money where his mouth is and we have to have patience.
If we don’t get promotion this season, so be it.
As long as we keep building, I will back KJ to take us back to where we belong.
Hear hear.
A team, no matter who they are, will endure a day like Saturday. That mauling will not determine the season for us. We will sort it out.
I had a marvellous day today, very emotional parade, and I will not let a result like that upset me.
See you in a fortnight.
There ARE some things more important than football.
Were you at the big parade?
I looked out for you on the telly but didn’t see you there.
Hopefully WILL see you on the 22nd.
No Mark,
I attended a small local parade in our village. Excellent Church Service followed by a wreath laying ceremony. I used to attend a larger event in the military garrison here but find this one a lot easier to get to. I was considering going to London, but it was a long way.
I will be in our “local” around 10 am on the 22nd. It’s my round – Stu has told me so!!
See you then mate.
Doogooder, Since I found this blog a few years ago I have always rated your comments and straight forward style and approach, and you have done it again. Other bloggers are available.
Morgan and MONEY, a statement of intent needs to come from the board by the way of using the transfer window to buy in proven players at this level, Yes they will cost more than unknown players but that’s football.
As loyal supporters we have been $hat on too may times in the past and it has to stop.
Thanks for that mate.
It seems that Morgan HAS promised Kenny some pocket money in January but then my mum promised me some pocket money once and it didn’t stretch to getting a top class striker.
…Although the Twix was delicious.
From little acorns my friend …….
The flood gates have opened on the preview of the Derby v Wolves comments.
I have left my comment on their opinion’s and my views on the team and club their as well.
On wards and upwards COYW!!!!!
Thanks for an honest summary of yesterday’s debacle.
As Dave H has already alluded to .. Clarke and Saville were complete passengers in a team under the cosh from the first to the last minute. It’s worrying the neither of these seem bothered to bust a gut for cause is so disappointing. I was miffed to see Saville pull out of a challenge he could clearly have won also. That maybe done in the PL but not in this division.
It’s perverse now but KJ is now under mounting scrutiny to get the boys back into a more confident shape for the next phase of this challenge.
What I’m looking for from him now is to be more assertive with the Board to get some quality personnel on board URGENTLY and to crack the whip on those who just aren’t performing.
Now isn’t the time for castigating the players .. it’s time for us to stick together, see some positive action with recruitment .. not the penny pinching we’re familiar with, and regroup for the arrival of Notts Forest…
Agree Thomas with what you’ve said, it looks like tv games don’t do us any favours even though
we didn’t play anything like we can ,Derby played very well,
it was men against boys and I think that’s the trouble we need a real captain who’s experienced in controlling and organising our young player or else this result will happen again and this won’t help in the future development of our young squad.
KJ’s got to answer also by his team selection I think he does to much tinkering, don’t know why he persists in leaving the vanman out,he can worry defences with his speed and trickery and as for Clarke a waste of time imo and I would keep maca in instead, until we get a new striker.
Don’t know if the break is good or bad for us,theonly good thing it gets DICKO a bit more time.UTW.
This big defeat has been coming for some time.
The platform on which our success was built last season, and early this, was solidity at the back. The back four developed as a unit, playing in front of a top class keeper. The unit kept us in games which we really should have lost. Now KJ has started tinkering. We are no longer a solid unit at the back, but a collection of individuals who play without any apparent cohesion or understanding. The result of this lack of selection continuity is fully evidenced by the woeful increase in goals conceded per game.
Of added concern is the poor form of those new midfield signings we were told would make a positive impact. Rowe appears to offer very little, and is a definite major weakness at left back. Saville is no better than those already on the books. Worth the money ? Not on what we have sen thus far.
Up front we are simply inadequate, a major problem that has been apparent all season but which has been ignored. The deficiency surely must be rectified in the new year by the addition of at least one striker of proven quality.
The bottom line is that we are attempting to compete in the Championship with a Division one team. Sadly, it is increasingly clear that some members of that team are not able to raise their game to meet the new challenge.
I believe that KJ has done remarkably well to have gotten us this far with the resources available to him. But he now urgently needs support from the Board if progress is to be maintained. Over to you Mr.Morgan
We have a first 11 to compete with anyone in this league the last few results have shown how desperately short of quality cover we are.
I put the blame squarely at the feet of the board put simply two free transfers and a youngster was not strengthening in the summer.
You’re absolutely right Sheffieldwolf regards our first XI. .. they can be a match for most in this div’n.
In fairness also to the team that got us promotion .. they should be given the chance to “show us what they can do in a higher division” .. we now know the answers with some of them.
Whilst we’ve had the burden of the Group 3 crew .. that’s over nearly and KJ should be steaming ahead with some QUALITY ADDITIONS. .. NOT a couple of freebies or cheapos.. if they don’t materialise either Jackett is too weak OR MOXEY STILL CONTROLS THE PURSE STRINGS… the latter being the one I fear most….
Agree with doogooder. Work in progress. Lets notget carried away. Kj said after the game that ipswich and derby are established at this level.we are still building. I will be happy with consolidation this year. I would have took that at the start and will take it now. Dust ourselves down and take
a reality check.
As one who was at the game yesterday, I would just like to say how magnificent our fans were in backing the team right from kick off to the final whistle. Despite what was obviously becoming a rout on the pitch, no fans got on the players’ backs or booed any individual players when they made poor decisions when in possession.
Instead we all sang our hearts out throughout, managing to create something of a party atmosphere in the driving rain. This will not have gone unnoticed by the team, as well as those watching on Sky around the country. So well done to all those fans present for supporting the team in such a spirited manner. After yesterday’s woeful performance on the pitch, the away fans showed everyone just what being a true supporter really means. Well done Wolves fans and yes the team will bounce back from this result, knowing that they have such a loyal following.
Onwards and upwards!
Good Man, Absolutely the truth. Well said.
Oh I neglected to add in my blog below. We cycle past the training ground most days and today the team were there training and getting a right ear bashing.
Maybe some divine intervention would help.
As a TV watcher, I was proud of our rainsodden, irrepressible, vocal, fantastic fans. Bit pi$$ed with the team though.
Every red blood cell counts. TV or terraces, Wolves Ay We.
🙂
well said although we were getting a thrashing from the best team in the championship made me proud to be a wolves fan hearing those rain sodden fans singing their hearts out for the lads well done all you travelling fans WOLVES AY WE
Very accurate report Thomas if not honest regarding playing prob the best team in this division..
I agree with Doogooder ..we could of coped easier with this if we took our chances in previous games, as he said,
we could of been top of the league so easily..
The phrase ‘negative comments’ are starting to appear on the blog but it’s a result like this being so comprehensively
beaten that underlines our problem and with the African Nations cup our further problems to come..
So where do we go from here… write this off as a blip or admit what’s happened in the last few matches and that is
that even KJ is under scrutiny for swopping players and poor tactics but overall thinking that with the same team as last season
we can sail to the top of this league and quite plainly we can’t ..
Injuries and now the realisation that we have the need for 5 players ..a class defender to help DB..a midfielder to help K Mac
And of course a striker to add to Dicko + 2 on the bench ..I personally would remove EBL Rowe Evens Macalinden and of course Clarke all of which are sticking out like a sore thumb.
We are also suffering from confidence give or take the fantastic Sako who still thinks in every game he is the best player on the pitch
(Prob is) even Ikeme dropped the ball at Ipswich and at his best would of got to 2of Derbys goals..
But now with a two week break KJ is firmly on the line to recover this or allow us to slide away from the top ..we need to stop up the
back immediately change tactics and inspire the team to believe in them selves with a change round at the front ..we hear our philosophy is to develop young players this is a card left to him that he hasn’t played ..the U21s could rescue us until January when
Our 2 bankers get involved ….after all it’s been said.
I still actually believe we can still do this and recover firstly by beating Forest at home but hand on heart I think that the weakness in some of our payers will screw us this season…the writing was on the wall for us at a Derby …is the writing on the wall that we are not going to make it this season ?..I can’t bear to think about it..
COYW
During the summer KJ seemed intent on strengthening two parts of the team: central defence and the forward line. We chased and lost Macguire, Wilson, Delort, Bamford and several others. Then, instead of adding to these two positions, we signed van la Parra, a right wing who, in spite of very bright early promise, can now barely get on the pitch, Rowe, a left midfielder who has been played at left back, and Saville, who has barely played and not impressed when on the pitch. And in Sagbo, we have made one of the worst loan signings anywhere in the League. None of this reflects well on KJ. Now, a team which went into the season buoyed by the confidence of a record breaking season, has run up against the buffers in a major way. The defence, so solid last year, is in tatters, devoid of confidence and failing to take personal responsibility. Batth looked out of his depth on Saturday, Doherty is flimsy and, to be honest, any one of the back four could have been replaced at half time they were all so awful. Our midfield talisman, McDonald looks unhappy at being rushed by the opposition and his passing and control are faltering. Clarke is, bluntly, hopeless. Division 1 is his level and he should be done a kindness and sent back there.
The last few games have shown that this team is certainly not ready for a promotion push. Mid-table consolidation is the likely outcome. The fall out from that is that Sako will go in January so that the club makes some money from him but, without his impact, the team will struggle going forward. Tactically KJ seems to have seriously lost his way, team selections have been strange and, so far, his eye for a player seems to have gone astray. Did he look at Sagbo play before bringing him in on loan? To complain later that he ‘needs games’ suggests that KJ and his staff were less than careful before deciding to bring him in. The man is weeks from being competitively match fit and, anyway, his previous goal scoring record is hardly one to write home about.
In all, this is what happens when you decide not to pay the going rate for Championship quality players. With some teams showing first signs of a revival – Fulham, Bolton, Leeds – I fear we will now be looking over our shoulder rather than looking towards the top of the table.
Just about agree with every word of that bmac.
Pretty much every thing good about the team this season was put in place LAST season.
The series of excellent purchases in the transfer market, the introduction of youth at the right time, the building of a wonderful team spirit and determination, and the decision to play good passing football.
Promotion was as good as secured when KJ paid £750,000 for Leon Clarke, unfathomable to me at the time. A mistake that made no difference last year but which is having a huge impact this.
That mistake has been proved to be the first of many as this season ……
We have failed to spend any significant money, instead looking for bargain basement buys and free transfers.
As a result, our signings have been average or poor and have done nothing to improve the team. In fact,
Chopping and changing the team has seriously affected confidence and team spirit which was clearly evident at Derby.
Team selection on occasions has been hard to understand.
The disappearance of our leader and talisman, the man at the top of every goal celebration, Sam Ricketts. Completely ignored until thrown into the lion’s den on Saturday.
Van la Parra dropped after a very promising start and the most surprising of all,
Replacing Scott Golbourne with Tommy Rowe at left back.
I know this is a league higher and there is more quality but we proved in the first 8 or 10 games that we had the foundation there for a really succesful future.
When we went up to the PL we built a huge stand. Now we are back in the Championship we can boast an amazing acadamy, which we are rightly very proud of.
But we underinvested on players then and blew our oppurtunity and we’re in danger of doing the same again.
Scott Golbourne is injured, so I’m told.
Dropped while fully fit, subsequently injured in training.
Martin.
The report was he has an injury carried since close season, tried to play through it but couldn’t, it’s a fascial plantar injur on the arch of his foot and requires an operation. You all know on this blog how highly I rate Golbourne, but it was out of Kenny’s control.
For Ricketts, read Golbourne, Sam injured his Hip last season and has struggled all season long, If you look at the player ratings by the fans for Saturday Sam was up there 3rd if I recall so hopefully he has turned his corner.
Leon,
Well he’s just a lazy twat, sorry IMO
🙂
Well, in that case I stand corrected Stu bu if he was carrying an injury since closed season, he’s even better than I thought he was! That was a lot of games he played to a pretty high standard.
He was dropped after the Wigan game but he was still on the bench for the next three.
As for Clarke, well…..
Well if it’s any consolation we both feckin miss the kid, best prospect Iv’e seen in a while. We were a different team when he played, an attacking defernder, he’s worth two Leon Clarkes any day.
🙂
he is reported as having a foot condition known as ‘plantar fasciitis’ which is serious, not just a temporary injury. A pity as he was one of our best players, especially teamed up with Sako
Thomas,
Great assessment of Saturday with just the one point I’d like to change. IMO
“Derby Magnificent”
Sorry, they were good and simply took advantage of a lack lustre team.
Millwall did the same to us in the second half playing a lack lustre team.
Ipswich did the same to us playing a lack lustre team
Doogooder, Twixfix, Sheffield wolf, Cheeseburger, (Jesus Christ it reads like a menu in a Chinese restaurant) they are all correct, we are a work in progress and on our day we can compete in this league we’ve proved it with some of the results we’ve ground out, yes ground out. We’ve stepped up a league and yes we can see that some of the guys that performed so well for us against lower league opposition just can’t cut it at this level, I bet for sure Kenny knows that, he’s been round the block and will sort it out given the opportunity.
Time and again I’ve thought it and I’ve even voiced it here at the risk of getting slated by all our bloggers, we are a new team still in it’s infancy full of misfits, no hopers and rejected players that their teams put up no resistance to keep hold of and Kenny has weaved his magic and got them to perform as a unit.
Now.
To get this bunch of no hopers, misfits and rejects to replicate that week in and week out is near impossible, anyone think that they are all up for the job?, I think reading the few comments above and surely the numbers that will follow will provide us with our answer. Hell No.
Deluded was mentioned by one blogger in the last post, well you would really have to be deluded to think Kenny intends taking this team to the Premiership. He will cut chop and shape a team that can piss all over the team we played on Saturday, the team he fielded was the team he has to play with at this moment in time. We don’t have Dicko, we don’t have Ricketts, we don’t have Golbourne so we make do and teams have turned us over.
I couldn’t say I saw any positives on Saturday apart from the crowd, to a man the could see what was happening and got behind the team, we were getting shafted and they were cheering every fluffed shot, every shit pass and every comical effort at defending. Why? because they know what Kenny has done with what he has at his disposal, they know we can play better than that, the team has lost it’s way, confidence is at an al time low (for this current squad) so we get behind them, you don’t kick the dog when it’s down.
I for one think, IMO, Kenny will get his money, he will buy and get players capable of playing sides like Derby, Remember Steve McLaren was England manager, and look how far they got under him. My 10 year old Grandson’s team could have scored against Wolves on Saturday, they couldn’t see the ball their heads were so far down.
Patience Guys and Gals, we have seen what we’re capable of, it’s only a lack of confidence we shall turn the corner then I say, bring Derby to Molineux when we’re playing well and then we’ll see who has bragging rights.
Come on me Babbies, heads out of your arses, the only way is up.
🙂
A powerful appraisal (bmac) but maybe the board have had a large hand in the aquisitions (?). Kenny has now got to show his mettle as a manager. There have been basic failings in recent weeks like the inability to defend a high enough line. He has done a great job in turning the team around in league 1 but in this division you can take nothing for granted and the championship chews managers over quickly. How he bounces back from this could tell us everything about his future.
I watched the match live in a pub in Phuket, Thailand. I last watched a live Wolves match (Fulham away) in the same pub 3 seasons ago. I sat in the same seat for both games and the opposition in both games wore White shirts, Black shorts and White socks. I was joking with fellow customers before kick-off that no matter what happens it couldn’t be another 5-0 drubbing as Wolves are a much better side now. I can only promise that if I find myself in Phuket again when Wolves are live on TV that I’ll either avoid the match completely or find a different seat in a different bar to watch it.
Clarke has to be dropped now, he got 2 game starts reward for his tap-in at Leeds and has reverted to being useless rather than pressing on. He simply doesn’t have what it takes to spearhead the Wolves attack. I’d rather not have a striker/forward at all than watch him go and stand by whichever Central Defender is nearest to him. Never makes space, never reacts quickly to potential situations, just hangs around the defenders and isn’t quick enough to out pace them, useless.
If we really can’t sign a forward then bring Doyle back, he doesn’t score either but is a far more skilful player and can actively participate in ball distribution around the box, which Clarke sadly doesn’t/can’t.
Phuket sounds like a good name for the place.
I quite agree about Doyle, although it is reported that Morgan will pay him off in January, we’re far better paying his £25K a week for his energy and verve than buying a cheap player who another club doesn’t want.
And Sigurdarson was also far far better then Clarke, he never got a good chance to play in his best position when he was here………..
sure it aint spelt differently ???????
I’m surprised no one has said it was just a bad day at the office.
If I had so many bad office days as we have had recently, I would have been sacked, and I’m self employed!!
I still think this is a cunning plan by El Maestro, taking the piss out of the board for not backing him in the summer, by picking shit players, and playing some out of position.
As stated before, by many of us, the incoming playing staff, between seasons, was pathetic, and that HAS to be the fault of the purse holders, not K.J.
We know he has the tactical nous, but you cannot fit a sows ear into a round hole, or whatever the horses mouth is.
If the board, and by that I mean Morgan and greasel, want progress, and progress means better football, better results, promotion and more income, then the ONLY important thing is:
WE NEED MORE, AND BETTER, PLAYERS.
We all knew this immediately after promotion last season, and if we can see it, you can bet Brompton Wolf’s next wage packet everyone in charge at the Golden Palace could see it as well.
But no, as usual, the same old bollocks was trotted out, if not publicly, most certainly in private.
Thou shalt have no money, use what assets you currently have.
Well, the pigeons are coming home to shit on your statuesque noggin Morgan.
Whilst you stand still, the rest of the league passes you by.
The only bright spot in the result from Saturday is I had forgotten it was an early kick off, and when I turned on my ‘puter at 9 in the morning, the result was staring me in the face, and I thought, fuck it, hope the shit lose at home, which they obligingly did.
At this rate, we are going to have a double derby with them next season, in Division Two.
Never give up, never surrender.
FOwb
Hopefully they are not relying on my next wage packet. It wont even buy Moxey a pie!
I can back him up on that Clive, it’s taken three meets and I still have’nt got my Pint.
🙂
Ouch!!!
Not going to bite this time though!
Just realised the Forest game on the 22nd is 1215 kick off and is on Sky!!! Let’s hope that has no adverse affect on us again. Guess I may have to travel down on Friday night then.
What time you planning on arriving at the watering hole? Just asking so I can make sure theDOOGooder does not beat me to the bar when you arrive – I will get Sat to put one in for you – so I can stop your moaning!
Come on me babbies let us beat these East Midland Softies!!
Just teasing my Freind, I’m sure your’e good for a pint. Just on my way to Specsavers (Kosher) I actually spotted the missing medal myself, but kept my head down, fair cop governor.
🙂
Hiya Steve. I’ve looked on the wolves website and it’s still showing as a 3pm kick off. (Notts Forest)
Can you double check your info re the 12:15 time mate.
I’ve also looked at sky sports coverage for that day and can’t see any tv on us that day.
Reason to raising is I probably can’t make an early time to be at the Park View…
You are correct my friend. I do not know where I got 1215 and TV from. I have a list of all fixtures on my office wall and looking at it, it looks like I got the Derby and Forest games mixed up!!!
See you at the Park View then mate. I no longer have to travel down on Friday now – thanks.
All of a sudden we looked a very very ordinary team. From the start , it showed that Derby had much more desire to win it….they were first to every ball…they oozed energy in every pass and movement even off the ball. Clarke had his chances now. He looks lost (although not entirely his fault as he had no service whatsoever) slow and ponderous and has no confidence whatsoever …so easy to mark out of the game. The defense seems to have lost its organisation and leadership…could it be since Golbourne is out? I hope , think and believe we are not premiership material….we need to consolidate in this division then start believing in pastures new. We were shocking and terrible. Derby were good…or even great but the opposition on saturday helped them look so great. We were shambles.
A very bad day at the office!
Usually if in good form you’d curse having yet another international break, but I hope during this one Kenny spends some team watching back recent performances and looking at team selections, and then we can turn a corner, refreshed and with a full complement of playing staff to choose from.
That said, it’s not all doom and gloom – we’re still in a good position, and we need to keep the faith.
I watched the game on TV and not once did I feel anxious, depressed, down, or whatever you want to call it.
There were times when some of the Derby football brought a smile to my face, they were very, very good, we were very, very poor.
Our defence was poor, our midfield was poor resulting in the lone striker receiving no service whatsoever. I understand people moaning about Clarke but lets be fair – Steve Bull would have struggled up front on Saturday with the ‘service’ Clarke had.
This team is still learning, Saturdays lesson will have done them no harm. They will not want to experience such a battering again.
Reality can be a painful experience, both for the team and us supporters.
Onwards & Upwards
Everything’s been said about the team and team selection on here – one bright spot was to see Ricketts back and hopefully the tinkering won’t consign him to the bench again for some time. We need his experience and leadership. Clark’s body language shrieks “I aint gonna score”.
But given the comments on here about our magnificent fans, I just want to repeat what I put up last night in the preview string. Credit to Sako, Ricketts and Henry in particular for coming right over to the fans at the end and showing their remorse at what had happened. Henry literally put his hands up; Ricketts visibly drooped as he walked away slowly and Sako led the way over – he just kept coming closer and closer and I think some fans wanted his shirt – his gesture suggested he didn’t think anyone would want his shirt from that game!
Regroup, review, recharge, stuff Forest (which will also delight the Rams, of course).
Well I left the stadium at halftime as I thought I may as well get home for the England V All Blacks, and that game and result was hard to take as well. Picked up BBC radio Derby for the game on the way home and the home commentators were saying all the Derby players were on top of their game, and everything Wolves tried was too slow. I thought a very accurate summary, the home side were more mobile, athletic and ran with real pace and movement, and we just couldn`t cope.
The commentators said Sako was our standout player, he certainly was, but the opposition had 11 Sakos and frankly our players wer`nt good enough. No point in boasting that we have eight or so academy players in our side if they can`t cut the mustard I`m afraid. I`m sure we will regroup, and I`m sure Derby will be in the promotion mix. What a good time for an international break.
Good point about the academy players Mark .. and one that should not be overlooked.
Better pundits than you or I will tell you that you win nothing with kids. I’m not against the academy player development but they have to be bloodied at the right time and not overexposed at such a young age. (They’re not all Duncan Edwards’)….
There was all that publicity last week about the wonderful new £7 million Academy at Compton – have people forgotten only a couple of years ago we were up in arms about the 50 half million pound executive homes Morgan has built there.
Now he says he will back Jackett in January, why were we waiting ? He also said how hard it is to find good players for sale who will come -er – another week we’re hearing how wonderful our scouting system is.
OK – lets keep this in perspective. These thing happen. This is a good, solid Derby team which almost got up last season and has been together for some time now. They have a manager who knows that to compete at the top level you need your team to play at a high tempo. I think KJ will now be aware that our passing game is not enough, (even at this level), if it is as ponderous as it was on Saturday.
Again keeping things in perspective, Derby had 6 shots on target and scored 5 which reminded me of when Soton did us by 6-0 at home under MM with only 7 shots in total. And we still made the play-offs. The referee was poor (- not that it would have changed the result -) he allowed Derby to kick lumps off Henry and Sako (both clearly targetted by Derby) yet somehow we ended up with the majority of yellow cards.
Positives; The support was 5-star – well done all who went. Ricketts was ok on his first start for a while. Sako kept battling.
So, I refuse to be despondent – there’s still a long way to go.. (but we have to stop asking Clarke to play a role alien to him and we have to find again the defensive consistency we had at the start of the season).
I will surprise a few of you out there, but I believe we now need to bring back Stearman. He has had his rest and he must start on the 22nd against Forest. I feel that young Danny has not played as well since he was “rested” and believe that they work quite well together.
On another note. Where has the postcard got to? I know that theDOOGooder knows where it went as he sent it on, but it has been 6 months now and I am looking forward to an update.
I have always been a Stearman fan, ever since long ago.
Bring him back immediately, if not sooner.
it is none of your bizzo where is the postcard, that is up to Thomas and Ben to determine, and keep us all in suspenders.
Just watched Match of the Day, finally, and loffed at the performance from sandwell!!
Lescott?
Brunt?
Yer ‘avin’ a loff!!
FO st
Yeah, I noted you were a Stearman fan a while back. Made/makes too many mistakes for me – unforced errors too. That said, we seemed to be worse off without him, so I say bring him back and let’s have a look. Can’t get any worse.
Are you not just a little bit inquistive as to where the postcard is? Or are you saying – “I had my go – so stuff it?” I want my go, so I want it to move faster. I’ll bet theDOOGooder aint sent it on really and it is pinned on his wall or something! Ok, ok, I’ll be bloody patient and shut up.
I rated Lescott, I thought he was a brilliant asset from our Academy. How old is he now?, must be getting near his sell by date. I never watched the game, but was chuffed when the Geordies beat them.
Have you looked at a flight plan for end of season yet mate, or is it too early?
Look forward to having a drink and a proper natter as I think we should make it a weekend event this time, rather than just a couple of pre match/post match drinks.
I know where it went, but it’s top secret.
If I told you, I’d have to kill you.
Suffice to say, a member of the Senior Service was the recipient.
Hmmmmmmmmm, never did trust those Navy sorts.
I’m going to mention the M…. word yes MONEY and I don’t care if it upsets certain bloggers . The budget Jacckett gets in January is going to determine whether we can buy the missing links to propell Wolves into the play offs or even better one of the two automatic spots . A striker and Keith Downing type midfielder would be ideal may be a center half if budgets stretches.
I cant see us holding on to Sako if results don’t improve ha of of me says cash in use the MONEY to improve the squad the other half keep him I suspect Kenny will be having the same thoughts.
One more thing this Blogg makes clear the views express on it are those of the Blogger I don’t apologise for my blogs at the same time I don’t expect or care if everyone or no one agrees with them. We live in a free country which allows us to express or views and by they way not all of my blogs have been negative the fact some people think they are shows they’ve ner read then all do I care no….. but I won’t be intimidated for expressing my option whether you agree with it or not.
I’ve supported Wolves best part of 40 years home and away good and bad , I’m committed and again if I think the people running the club aren’t ill say so…….again and again …..wether people like it or not that my right..!
Good for you mate!
If we all had the same views it would be blogging well boring.
As long as you are a fan you can say what you blogging well like as far as I’m concerned.
The beauty of this Country as opposed to less tolerant Countries, is the wonderful Free speech we all enjoy when our wives permit it. No-one listens in to our telephone conversations, monitors our internet activity, we can wear what ever symbol of our faith or religion without offending any other culture and we can rest sound in our beds in the knowledge that we can trust our leaders and celebreties to behave with the same dignity as they demand of us. (My Feckin Arse is a Kipper)
But Paul, your contribution to this blog is as welcome as anyone else’s and you say what the devil you wish, we have the option to read it or discount it and tha’ts Choice. I genuinely believe the coment on your blog was instantly regretted the minute it was posted, but like the 5-0 shafting we have just had, we have to get over it and move on. I have enjoyed reading some of your posts and hope we continue the blog in the spirit of the Wolves supporters We ALL are.
Wolves Ay We
🙂
Paul,
despite my non confrontational, shy, reserved manner, I too have been victim of the occasional rant on this blog, if you can believe that.
All I say to them wot dough agree with me is:
If yow cor tekk it, dough dish it out!!
I am 100% with you, whatever you say.
As some American from prehistoric times once said, (a lot better than me,)
“I disagree 100% with everything you say, but I will defend with my life if necessary your right to say it”
Or something like that.
Good on yer, mate, keep the faith.
And of course,
FOwb
Paul,
I hear what you say, and agree with you in principle.
You are correct, everyone has a right to say what they want, and I do respect your views. Please accept my apologies for my previous rant.
Regards
I am and proud to be so……..the highs are UNBEIVABLE the lows some times unbearable but I would not swap Wolves for all the Chelsea’s and Man Utd in the world.
well said mate more lows than highs last few years but we,re wolves through and through .cant stand those fans who jump on the chelsea ,man city bandwagon etc WOLVES AY WE .once a wolves fan always a wolves fan .my grandad ,my dad ,me,my kids and my grandkids gold and black through and through
………. and not forgetting the bucket of vindaloo.
I suppose it’s restating the bleeding obvious to say that a result like this was always going to be on the cards when we’re attempting to compete in the championship with a league one team. If you were at the Huddersfield game you’d have seen how quickly we could be undone by swift, incisive passing and shooting, and how our heads dropped afterwards. But it’s worrying that we were never beaten as badly as this even in the dark days of Dean Saunders.
What have we done to improve the squad? Three new players – or three and a bit, if you include the unlamented Sagbo. Rowe has been played out of position so maybe it’s not fair to judge him. Saville cost money from Chelsea and perhaps he’s one for the future, as it’s difficult for a youngster to be thrown in at the deep end in a team lacking in confidence against one of the best teams in the league. But for me the real enigma is van La Parra. Remember his dazzling run and cross onto Dave Edwards’s head in the Norwich game? I thought he was going to be our star but lately for some reason he can’t even get on the pitch.
Disappointing that Ricketts and Golbourne have had niggling injuries, which I wasn’t really aware of until today. Hope that they will soon be back to full match fitness.
We won’t know until the transfer window reopens in a few weeks what attitude Steve Morgan will have towards strengthening the squad. In the meantime it’s going to be a tremendous test of the character of the players, and particularly of KJ’s powers of organisation and motivation, to put this defeat behind them and move forward.
Cheers boys, to Brompton Wolf all the best at this time of year espeailly we should not be falling out and I apologise if I’ve up set anyone it was and is never my intentions I just get very passionate at Wolves, my wife says if only I showed the same passion towards her……….err well that’s enough of that.
My little girl sang a Remerberance service yesterday and it’s brings to home to you how lucky we are all those young lads years ago made the altimate sacrifice so we could have a rant and rave.
God bless them all
Thanks Paul, I commented on your earlier post before reading this one. It was not you at all, you said what you said, it was I who should apologise as it was I who went off on one.
Nice to hear that your little girl was involved in yesterday’s service. I have been out 7 years now after 34 years service, so it means a lot to me, as it does to a lot of other people. I must admit to having been very fortunate in returning safely from a number of worn torn countries, and even more thankful that all my soldiers did also.
Let me know when you are going to a game and if I am also attending I would like to buy you a beer.
No problem you have my respect and admiration and mI’ll buy you a pie.
All the best
Paul.
Paul,
He’s left himself wide open tnere matey,
I have to do it Brompton. Sorry
Paul, don’t hold your breath on a pint
Brilliant.
The Round(s) are on me guys!!! If you can find me.

Sorry can’t make it now – wallet not big enough.
I got the kick off time all wrong. I thought it was 1215 for some obscure reason. Believe I got my fixture list mixed up with the Derby game.
Because it is now the normal 1500 kick off I will travel down on the morning, arriving around 1130 to 1200.

Due to distance and finances my only Experience of watching my /our team is the football league show.
Over the years we`ve had bad days and bad years.Overall we ain`t doing too bad.Mid-table at this stage of the season would have done for me at the start.
Money has been spent on Molyneux, thanks.
Money has been spent on the academy, thanks for the forward thinking.
SPEND NOW ON experience players who can help our young men develop further.THANKS.
COME ON YOU WOLVES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few points.
1. Is part of the problem we are always playing 4-2-3-1? This was always fine in Div 1 as we could generally work the ball through midfield. Quite clearly against Derby, Ipswich and even Huddersfield this was ineffective. As much respect as l have for KJ isn’t there a plan B?
What is wrong with going 4-1-4-1 occasionally against stronger opposition especially when away from home. We need to employ a ‘Karl Henry’ type player in front of the back 4 for protection Rowe or maybe even Saville? This would get MacDonald and Evans higher up the pitch.
We have been caught playing pretty football on the edge of our box too often. Teams have sussed us out and now just press the ball waiting for a mistake.
2. You cannot play 2 young centre halves that are both nowhere near the finished article. It is too much asking Danny Batth to lead the defence and the team. A solid experienced centre half is almost as important as a couple of strikers.
3. We should view this season as consolidation in this division and nothing more, looking to launch a viable challenge next season. If Sako goes then so be it. We should never have expected the team to go straight back to the Premiership, they have done well this season and KJ needs to learn the lessons to help move the team forward. A mid table finish would be nothing to be ashamed off!
Just a thought…. and shoot me down all that disagree…
Is the formation really the issue here?
It served us proud last year and did well for us for the first few months in this division.
It’s only been recently with loss of key personnel and a few other changes that have caused the “mini collapse”.
I don’t think we need a tough tackling midfielder to protect KMc and the back 4. I think KJ is right in using speed and attacking as the best form of his defence. He just does not have the right players at this very moment.
If you can keep the tempo with waves of attack, you keep the opposition from forming an attack as their midfield will be trying not to concede.
KJ’s formula is to have pace with an attractive build up passing game… One touch football which still shows “briefly” in games.
Looking back to our 1st game in this division, our front line of Edwards, Sako, Dicko and VLP had Norwich on the ropes at times… with well formed attacks and runs behind the defence. In subsequent games VLP had got defenders yellow cards of whom have had to be substituted and they got yellow cards aswell as the odd red card that cropped up for the opposition.
All our pace has disappeared… We can’t keep the ball as the opposition are pushing further forward instead of defending our pacey attacks… Dicko, VLP and Edwards all gone for the moment but they will return… When they do or if we can get similar or better replacements then we will have our fluid passing and miserly defence back.
The lack of pace is inviting teams into the game and pushing us back in our own half… McDonald does not get the freedom he once has… He is being marked because we have no pace upfront not because of tactical marking. How could any midfield or defence cope with that pressure?
The best form of defence is attack!
Give that man a gold star and send him to the top of the class 🙂
Well said Shrews.
I don’t intend to bullshit here and try to steal thunder, just echo what you are saying.
What you say is true.
If we have the ball, the opposition don’t.
If we hold onto to it, they can’t get it.
If we let them run at us, (Derby) they will take it and score.
While we are marching, we’re not fighting. (Going forward we’re not defending)
While our best players are injured, we have to be patient.
Well put Shrews Wolf
🙂
We had all that pace and loads of 1-nils at the start of the season.
So many wanted more goals and complained that we did not have the out and out striker.
Well we’ve scored more goals in recent games but look at the trade off!
Me and the good lady are off to London tomorrow, 11th of the 11th, going to see the Poppies at the Tower of London.
Tear in the eye and a tug of heart strings time methinks.
🙁
Have fun mate.
One of those is ours. Don’t break it!
If you tell me which one is yours, I will make sure it’s clean and shiny.
Hard to compehend it’s 100 years ago. I was 8 then.
🙂
If you were 8, I would hate to think how old Clive was!!!
…also, let’s not forget that Derby were in the Play-off final gunning for promotion to the Prem last season, while we were in League 1.
Meant to say this earlier. I’d prefer to see Doyle up front than Clarke. He works hard, holds the ball up well and brings others into the game. He may not score the goals one hopes for but he is technically way better than the options after Dicko and, IMHO, would not undermine the character and balance of the team and, I believe, retains some affection from the fans.
We have a guy called Roger Johnson……….
Stop it, Stop it
Getting desperate, call an Ambulance.
🙁
Big Mac 🙂
He could hold a ball as good as McDonald any day and would allow the forwards to get up into scoring opportunities. And, we all know he can score, everyone goes through a lean spell but he knows where the goal is.
On a different vein, I’m always ranting on about going to the U21s and how they’re developing, I sing the praises of Connor Hunt, Ibriham Keita and Dominic Lorfa. Well guess who Wolves have highlighted as the up and coming star. Dominic Lorfa, he is a taller Scott Golbourne and I’m sure he’s being groomedby Kenny. ( no, not that kind of Groomed)
I would’nt be surprised if he don’t get a start soon. And why not Keita?
🙂
The first paragraph is DOYLE not Johnson, Honest!:-)
I rate Iorfa myself, bring Siggy back from Molde if he is willing. Otherwise Van the man up front. Clarke no more I am afraid.
Just taken a moment to reflect.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England’s foam
Lest we forget.
We shall remember them,
Brilliant. Did you find Mark’s?
The performance on the pitch was awful and I think everything worth saying about the game has been said above already. Support was magnificent and in general I sense an atmosphere which is very much different to the one that was there even when we were in the Premier League.
In retrospect, I perhaps should have chosen another game when flying in from Denmark to see the boys but it was still an experience with some positives despite the result. Thanks to StuWolf for the beer at Pride Park and thanks to John from Codsall for company on the coach.
And, as a sidenote, to experience the Remembrance Day as a foreigner is indeed very moving. Watching it on the telly every year is nothing compared to be there in person.
UTW!
Don’t panic everyone. This league is totally unpredictable. Blackpool will probably turn Derby over when they play them. Watford also lost 2 on the bounce last week. It happens. Good to see monty python best bits on telly. Always remember the immortal line from Eric Idle (a Wolves fan) …. Yangtse, oh yangtse river of fish….many of the worlds top goalkeepers, including Phil Parkes of Wolves fish on the banks of the yangtse…… Oh well back to reality. Work tomorrow and it’s flippin raining again.
Thx for the complimentary post StuWolf, Unlike KJ… I was not aiming for top of the class but top will do!
I was more looking at blending in, but just to add the odd thought provoking comment as I try to see from everyone’s point of view.
With regards to Brompton, Clive & Mr Featherstone… Good to see the make up after a barny. It’s like a good marriage, if you always agree with your other half it gets boring. The odd “discussion” often leads to a good 2-3 minutes of adult fun when making up, however I don’t even want to think of you lot in an orgy so we’ll park that thought.
Looking forward to Forest as they have started picking up points again after a miserable run. I don’t think they’ll be over confident and neither will we. It has all the trappings of being a real good open game (especially with Dicko expected back in the starting line up).
And the solid Scott Golbourne, at last yipeeeee
Happy days are here again.
🙂
Just read stuff on the NewsNow site titled “The best homegrown midlands footballers ….” and they have spelt the Baggies name wrong – class!!
Could’nt really put Fu#€$¥* Shit could they.
🙂
Golbourne’s back?
On WolvesNewsnow site, he’s ready, will train Next Thursday or Friday and will be 100% fit according to king Kenny.
Wahooo
🙂
Fantastic news…Back to positive thinking then Dicko Ricketts Golbourne ..Ricketts and Golbourne needed so badly before DB has a nervous breakdown..
Hopefully here’s the change of results
VLP as a sub and we’ll beat forest 3-0
The tean that finished the match on Sat (with Stears and RVLP) should start agsinst Forest, not Clarke. If Scotty is back, put Ricketts as CB with Stears, rest DB for one game. If Dicko is not fft (heaven forbid), RVLP as no 9 would be my take. I would bring back Siggy from loan, but not Doyler.
It’s not a given that Kenny will play Golbourne, after all he did drop him.
Like others I’d play RVP and bring back Ziggy.
We are desperately short upfront and I blame cheapo Morgan and Moxey.
We might even have an eye for a goal or two with key players available.
Wolves have signed 29year old Striker Danny Graham from Sunderland on 1 Month loan.
Hmmmmmm
Time will tell.
Even on one leg he would be an improvement on Clarke
I come off of NewsNowWolves for one minute and …… Ha ha.
Going to check up on him now. Can’t be any worse than Sagbo (or Clarke) surely.
Yes …. time will tell.
Does not appear prolific. He did okay for Carlisle back in 2007-2009 where he played 89 games and scored 29, and even better at Watford 2009-2011 where he played 91 and scored 38. 15 goals from 54 appearances at Swansea during 2011 – 2013 then at Sunderland he was loaned out to Hull and he scored 1 from 18 and on loan to Boro he scored 6 from 18.
Hope he has been saving himself to score shed loads for us – otherwise he can feck off back!!!
I think they are saying he’s a championship player as opposed to a PLP. He’s got 7 games to prove himself, cost Black Cats £5 M and they were willing to offload for £1 M. In the summer, we were linked with him but he wanted Boro.
Roger Johnson springs to mind,God, I hope not.
🙂
We can always send him back – that can’t be a bad thing. If he turns out to be a quality player for us then that is good, but ……… O’Hara springs to mind.
STOP IT!! You got me thinking now. Think Positive Biles, think positive!!!
Stats Stats Stats… Just a guideline…
Brendan Rogers seemed to get the best out of him, taking him from one club to another. …. and we all know Rodgers likes to play with pacey forwards in his attack (not far different to KJ’s way of playing).
I think he’ll fit the style of play that KJ wants and where he’s had his worse seasons, he has not been playing his preferred role.
Playing him to his strengths could very well be the masterstroke we have been waiting for.
I may have (on occasion) advised that strikers moving clubs is sometimes detriment to their careers as they do not fit the bill with their style of play. Maybe the last few clubs have not been right for Danny and just needs to get back to what he knows best.
Stats under B.R. were better for him than other managers, so we could seehim working well for us.
A certain Mr. Dougan, as well as a certain Mr. Bull would probably not agree with you on your detriment comment!
I did say sometimes our Clive. Some strikers just score for fun whatever formation they get thrown into, but the likes of Akinbye would argue they did not get the same type of service, to when they were scoring freely. (Not necessarily good or bad service – just different).
Some like it on their heads, some prefer to run into it, some prefer tap ins and do a bit of goal hanging.
This formation prefers to thread the ball through, of which is similar to the way B.R. likes to play with a pacey striker in the end of the through ball splitting the defence.
It don`t matter who puts `em who puts `em in
lets have some effin goals.
COME ON YOU WOLVES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a good feeling about Graham I thought we should have looked to sign him at the start of the season. Bit of experience is what we need and if he settles and is fit I think he could do good things for the team. I would also like to see a experienced central defender signed which I’m hopping will be addressed in January.
I reckon he looks as good as anyone we’ve seen.. left footed but a bit of a sniffer too.. it’s being where the ball will end up as well as being able to put it in..I’m positive ..hope he plays against forest .. We need a break ..
COYW
Just a minute!
Some of the best players in history are left footed………………me, for example!!
Good signing and did well for Swansea playing fooball. Was fed up the other night when i saw on BBC 2 a program called The Fall.I was expecting a documentary on the post punk band and legend Mark E Smith. Never mind. Had to put up with chav talentless twats one direction instead.
I trust that you immediately turned your TV on/off switch in one direction!
Clive..I rate this guy he could (as well as another defender) get us up…
Well Steve,We’ve got the guy and another Defender (Golbourne) is on the way back. Life is sweet. Looking good for Saturday.
🙂
Must admit, I liked him when he was playing for Swansea, and let us face it, he cannot do worse than Clarke or Sagbo.
If he doesn’t perform, we could always re sign that prolific Irish forward who still “plays” for Ireland…..Wardinho !!!!
Stu..Still need a big bloke to support DB unless Ricketts or Stears play like Bobby Moore for the rest of the season..
Might make it Sat..or even Brentford..
..must win against Forest though..
Int break in our favour for once..
COYW
Let’s give Dominic Lorfa a run out he’s 7 foot 6, a bleeding giant.
A few of us are meeting up at the Park View about lunchtime if you make Forest, come along and meet some oftne others Bloggists.
Jen & I are going to Brentford, so if you make it we can arrange to see you there,.
🙂
A quick revamp of a song I will be thinking about on Saturday, if all goes to plan!!!
Oh Danny boy, the goals, the goals are calling
From end to end, and down the North Bank side
The form has gone, and all the fans are dying
‘Tis you, ’tis you must score and stop the ebbing tide.
We will rejoice when the ball ends in the net now
Or when the other fans are hushed with your display
‘Tis I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I hope that you do play.
And if you score, when all the others are failing
And if we win, as win we may well do
We’ll come and find the place where your are drinking
And kneel and say an “Here’s a pint for you”.
And I shall hear, the Wolves fans rejoicing
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you’ll not fail to play amazing football
And score not one, nor two, but three.
I’ll simply sleep in peace until you score for me.
You really do need to get out more!!
What does “OFTT WOTO AAWA AAIA I” stand for, as your mental wanderings usually have a downward meaning??
Its a slow blog day after an international break.
Did anyone watch the England game, was it any good, and what is the point of a “friendly” against Mel Gibson & Co, tomorrow?
I bet there will be some walking wounded afterwards, with Snow White’s friend, Grumpy Strachan, winding them up into a tizzy!!
Do they know they haven’t qualified for anything THIS CENTURY??!!
Ha.
FOwb
No left line this time Cliveo. Game was okay, but I thought we were pants in the first half (remind you of anything?). I also don’t understand the reason for the match tomorrow, but that wont effect the Wolves, so I don’t particular care…. until kick off then I will want us to demolish them!!!
Yeah – I do need to get out more, but I was getting bored logging on the blog and finding nothing there so thought I would sing a song.
I am going down to the Mol on Saturday, via the watering hole, and am looking forward to seeing our new “Striker” on his debut!!! Hopefully he will play his socks off and we get a good result to get us back on track.
Be good mate. I look forward to seeing you again in May to celebrate whatever we are going to celebrate.
Pot Kettle, Kettle Pot.
You Americanised CFH
What’s the smallest book in the World?
American footballing achievments.
The only entry, they stuffed England.
Come on you Blues.
🙂
Just noticed from my anorak world that a match in the conference was postponed in unusual circumstances. Eastleigh v Lincoln city called off due to ‘a fire at the away team hotel’. Anyone know of any other unusual post ponements?
An unexploded Second World War bomb found near Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane home forced the postponement of their Second Division game against Oldham on Sunday February 9th 1985. Safely disposed of, the match was played three days later.
Night match at Molineux, 1960 something……………..
Boring, dull, lifeless match………………
Floodlights failed, match abandoned………………..
Bad Play Stopped Light.
Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs West Bromich Albion, 13th Decemcer 1986.
Albion fans turned up only to be disappointed with the new stand that had been built.
They found out all the seats had been installed incorrectly.
They all faced the pitch.
Match abondoned due to loud embarrassing Raucus laughter from the away fans end.
Boom Boom, get in there
🙂
You could have at least got the date right to make it more realistic!!
I thought we were being serious, not making stuff up, or talking about postponements that happen all the time. Get real guys. God!
Dead funny though.
PS: Nearly Christmas!
Serious?
On this site?
Yor avin a larf!
You do talk serious stuff mate. Whilst most of your posts are dead funny, they cover, very well I must say, some serious stuff.
You should take note that the majority of bloggers on here probably look for posts from you, theDOOGooder and Stu primarily, as they know you will have something worthwhile to say, and are probably going to make them laugh too.
I am not saying other bloggers do not have worthwhile views though!!! (Disclaimer)
Most recent game I remember being abandoned was Derby v Wolves….
We abandoned the game due to low motivation, but forgot to inform Derby and they carried on without us. 😉
Stunning. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Put it down as a no show.
Brilliant – Now that one WAS funny!!!
See you soon mate.
Well thank you kind sirs….
I hope you realise I was being serious as we are a serious site!
I think we should have a caption contest or some other random bit of fun every time there’s a break in play to keep the morale up on this site, as I’m with Brompton.. I keep checking back and there could be days before a new post go’s up.
Caption competition is it?
This picture is probably too small to see properly but it is from a certain game back in early May 1972.
It was taken just after a certain Mr F. Munro scored against a certain Leeds United FC.
And my suggested caption is:-
“You can certainly shove your League and Cup Double up your backsides you load of dirty, arrogant, cheating sons of bitches!
We are Wolves and we will not be bought or beaten by you scumbags!”
I thank you and goodnight.
Doogooder.
Youv’e warmed my cockles me old mate, how I absolutely loved that game, one because being a Scot I got in free by climing overthe toilet wall in the old South Bank because all the gates were shut. And two for the very reasons you have alluded to. Feck you Mr Bremner and your outstandingly boring football.
🙂
Love the idea Shrews Wolf, what else is there to do in the down time, and I will certainly be serious in my efforts toget a smile.
Caption competition time.
As this site is all about anonymity and freedom of speech, I want to play…….
“Name the blogger”.
Gonna have to think about this as that is a wheely hard one!!
If it’s the one I think it is, he has 7 points from 13 predictions!!
“eye” were thinking Brompton with his Avatar.
Spot on boy, lots of folk on the blog associated Bromptom with (brompton in London)
Hence,
The London Eye
.
Must try harder,
I still think I should get a point. Ferris, as in Ferris Wheel, must be considered a good answer – surely?
Do some people pick their careers because of their name?
Just caught him on BBC news and had to share.
Dunno, but I have heard of a lion tamer called Claude Balls. And (honestly) a church organist called Alan Coustic.
Shrews Wolf On the subject of hero’s……..
My youngest son Christopher is an Emergency Ambulance Technician in Inverness, he flies out as a volunteer to Sierra Leone with the Government team to fight Ebola on December 1st. He’s out there for 8 weeks, me and his mum are praying he don’t come back pooley.
🙁
I will certainly think of him my friend, and hope for his safe return. Respect to his strength and character.
Fair play to him StuWolf, I bet you are so proud to have offspring that not only thinks of others first, but also has the balls to follow through with something so big. It’s not just the risk element, it’s what he’ll be witnessing when he’s there.
Now that we’re all aware of his future exploits, I’m sure I’ll not be the only one on this site wishing him all the best.
Makes you proud to be British (as we know you’re a Scot). Andy Murray syndrome???
Don’t forget to sneak his Chrissy Prezzie in before he go’s as not much chance of snow in S.L., so Santa will struggle to land his sleigh!
I was a Paramedic for 33 years, and went to Bosnia during the first conflict for John Major in 1992, my eldest son was a Paramedic for 15 years until he finished through injury, Chris has been an Ambulance technician for 10 years, I thought I couldn’t be any prouder.
Then bang, they turn round and surprise you.
As a family we believe in one thing……..
Awesome sentiments. You know my background, so you understand my feelings on this. I’ll bring a photo to our meet on Saturday of me pulling faces at John Major in Bosnia.
I’ll bring the missus to see it, she thought I’d only gone to get a paper, gone Three weeks in the end.
🙂
3 weeks? We went out as the Main Support Squadron of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, and due to the specialism we could only be replaced by an American unit. I arrived with my Squadron in to Split on the 22nd December and moved up to Ilidza in Sarajevo on Christmas Day. We returned in November the following year!!
Stu..park veiw then…if only to see Graham put one in..we hate Nottinham forest.. and somebody else….
COYW
Steve,
We shall be there around 12 ish, we’ve got to go to Burton to watch the Grandson play in the morning, then pick up my tickets for Sheff Wed away on the way through, so see you there with the other bloggists.
🙂
Today, EXACTLY 43 years ago, was a match that those of us who were privileged to attend, will never forget.
Arsenal, fresh off their record breaking double triumph the previous year, sauntered into The Mol, in the freezing snowy conditions, and took a 1 – 0 half time lead.
What followed is sublime.
I don’t care which footie team you support, the demolition that followed was world class by any standards.
We stuck 5 past a dumbfounded Bob Wilson, and could have had more.
Only a mid season league match, but one that our generation will always remember and think of as the start of one of the greatest Wolves teams in history.
Type in Wolves v Arsenal 1971 on youtube and watch Kenny Hibbitt and Bobby Charlton analyze the game.
Those of you lucky enough to be there, will, like me, shed a few tears, especially as three of those playing are no longer with us.
Whereever you are, Frankie, Dave and Derek, thanks for the memories.
I was there that day, poor old Bob didn’t know where to dive. I had the privilege to see Big Frank in his last days when he was in the nursing home we went to with Dementia, even then, talk about football and on he raved about our beloved Wolves, a truly nice man. Also met tne Doog at our local recycling plant in Codsall, I had no idea we were living so close to an icon.
Waggy…… Enough said, a legend. If James Henry and RVLP could watch his videos, they would understand the value of taking a player on and not trying for a feckin throw in (Henry)
Happy days those Clive me boy, Happy Days.
🙂
I din’t know you had dementia?
The doctor said to my mum, “we’re not sure if he has Aids or Dementia.”
Mum says, ” how can we be sure then”?
Doc says, “put him in the car and drop him off in the Countryside 6 miles from home”
“If he finds his way back, dont let anybody sleep with him”
Boom Boom, get in there me babbie.
🙂
I was there too Clive .. Mrs Twixfix and myself. Great day .. except … we went to the Gaumont after the game to watch a film and parked on the Wulfrun car park. Trouble was the car park shut at 7pm and when we came out of the flicks wearing just a T shirt (and jeans of course) we couldn’t get the car (9:30pm).
Turned out well when I managed to bung an attendant on site and get back into my Capri Ghia. … happy days…
Well I was there too in the North Bank watching kennedys goal come past Parkes like a rocket..but then the 5 goals 2nd half..It must of been a long way home to London..
Wolves were feared at home then particularly with an up and coming Richards…
I just hope we can home grow (or acquire) some icons again..
I wasn’t there. I was a 13 year old living in Telford and had no-one to take me!!!
