Quite a few people pointed out I’d incorrectly named Andreas Weimann in my preferred XI to this game, despite the fact he was ineligible against his parent club.
Fair enough.
Just as well as he couldn’t play though, as we might not have seen Nouha Dicko’s best performance of the season.
For the first time in a long time our once prolific striker was barreling towards defenders and making things happen with powerful, direct running. That bodes well for next season.
Despite not being rewarded with a goal for himself, he did lay one on a plate for Ben Marshall in a rare moment of cohesion from Wolves on an otherwise poor afternoon.
You can point to Cavaleiro’s stupid sending off as a key moment, but Derby were coasting it well before lapping up the benefits of numerical advantage.
If you look at the goals, discounting the countless opportunities they created besides, it’s clear an inability to defend down our right was targeted and exploited.
David Nugent was all alone at the back post for his opener and Conor Coady himself was then skinned far too easily for the second.
I talked a lot in the preview about getting the balance in central midfield right, but starting next season with two specialist full backs must also be high on the agenda for Paul Lambert.
Don’t get me wrong, Coady has played superbly on several occasions in the back four, but he’s doing a job not mastering the art.
Midfield was again a problem though. You need only look down the Derby teamsheet to see the gulf in class between two sides pursuing the same goal.
Bryson, Butterfield, Johnson and Ince would all walk straight into our eleven and that sort of disparity simply can’t exist next season.
OK, we’re without two of our best outfield players (Costa and Doherty) as well as our first choice goalkeeper, but this was yet another reminder of just how much work there is to do over the summer.
It can’t come soon enough.

As always, you talk a significant amount of good sense.
However, as mediocre as the vast majority of our players are, they are, nonetheless, better than the painfully disjointed performances they are largely churning out week after week – and the only person responsible for this is PL.
He’s been saying all the right things re what’s required during the summer and I hope this can come to fruition and, even more importantly, these players can be coached into a cohesive unit with consistent game plans – however, I’m not convinced of the latter.
Had Zenga reigned over the, largely, shambolic performances we’ve seen under PL, you’d have been (as in fact you were at times) immeasurably more critical of him and his chances of keeping his job. However, perhaps given how supportive you were over his appointment, this has not been the case with Lambert.
Fair enough. I didn’t like Zenga, I’ll admit that. I genuinely believe he would have taken us down too. Many will disagree I’m sure.
I was also a strong advocate of Lambert as he represented common sense after Zenga’s departure. Would have preferred Big Sam but that was wishful thinking.
But I’ve given Lambert a fair amount of stick when I feel it’s been warranted. See for example (after a win)…
https://wolvesblog.com/10535/wolves-1-rotherham-united-0
I think to sack him without giving him a summer to sort out the mess of last summer would be silly. I’ll judge him next season and will try my best, as always, to be fair.
But it’s only my opinion.
I didn’t suggest he should be sacked – just that, as he is the sole person responsible for how this team has played for the majority of this season, he should have been subjected to greater scrutiny and criticism from yourself than has been the case to date.
Had Zenga presided over the utter dross we are largely subjected to, he would have been on the receiving end of a damn sight more critism than you choose to not level against Lambert – which, is neither balanced nor fair.
We all see how limited and mediocre our current squad largely are – however, the players we have are still better than the performances and results that have been delivered under PL, and this is something he has not been brought to task on by yourself.
However good or limited players are, all teams strive to play in a way they have been asked and coached to play by the manager. The hassle and harry, often clueless game plan and aimless hoofing of the ball football served up this season under PL is down to him – not the players.
Please explain how, when Zenga had exactly the same group of largely mediocre players to work with earlier in the season, this was not a feature of his reign??
I’m not sure what you want me to say Steve. I feel I’ve continually questioned Lambert’s decisions in previews and match reports as I have with every manager. Equally, I gave Zenga credit in the matches I felt we did perform well during his tenure.
Did you read this article I wrote after Zenga left?
https://wolvesblog.com/9566/the-roundabout
I think that outlines my opinions.
My general stance on managers is that they need time. I think you’ve got to get someone you know you can feel relatively sure about in the long run and then stick with them over at least 2-3 seasons. I believe Lambert has shown enough in his career, particularly at Norwich to suggest he can get this right for us if given a fair crack. Six months and the ridiculous squad he inherited is not a fair crack.
Zenga only got a few months and was basically asked to perform a miracle, so I do have sympathy for him. It was a nonsense to believe he’d get it right having not even had a pre-season. But in the long run, I didn’t have faith he’d get it right based on his track record and inexperience in English football. That’s just my opinion, whether or not you feel it’s balanced or fair.
And unfortunately, as I edit the blog and the lead articles are largely based on my opinion (with Ben S and Ben R chipping in) you’re pretty much stuck with it. My only responsibility is to talk about what I feel at any given time. I welcome contributions from anyone at any time though Steve, so please feel free to offer up an article if you want to highlight a different perspective.
And just picking up on a point you made, the football under Zenga was just as bad as anything we’ve seen under Lambert. Burton, Leeds, Norwich and Barnsley at home all spring to mind. Utter dross. Yes, there were some champagne moments, but I don’t think the quality of football was on average any better than what we’ve seen since he left.
Thanks for the response.
As I stated at the beginning of my first comment, you do typically talk a significant amount of good sense – I just feel, on the general point of how the team plays, that there is a better balance that could be struck between player and manager responsibility for this being the case.
Let’s just hope for better next season, hey!
“The hassle and harry, often clueless game plan and aimless hoofing of the ball football served up this season under PL is down to him – not the players.”
– He mentioned in an post match interview, a match we won, that he decided to play it simple. The reason for that was, according to Lambert, that we don’t have the players to play different styles successfully, which is a consensus understanding also expresseed by the fans, more or less – IF we’re playing the players which have featured lately. We could of course play different players. What if we’ve played Saiss (or Price), Cavaleiro and Bright for instance in central midfield positions? We could possibly play a more progressive style of attacking football. We could of course end up to light weighted defensively. Could a change of formation change the team’s performance? Lambert has had a limited possibilities to work with, no doubt about that, but there are always several possible strategies available. If I had a handful “meaningless” games left, then I’d probably use those games to experiment with. Would a 5-3-2 with Marshall and Doherty (or Iorfa) on the wingbacks, and Price, Bright and Cav in central midfield turn out to be a weaker team in attack or defensively than the last lineups for instance?
As I’ve said, we do have a squad made up largely of mediocre and limited players – something that has been painfully clear to see for how ever many seasons now.
As a result, whilst we would all love to see expansive, progressive football – as you say, Lambert does indeed have limited possibilities to work with.
HOWEVER, are we saying that the players we do have are no better than the performances and results the team has largely churned out under him??
I actually think they are.
There’s ‘playing it simple’ – which is a rather sensible and pragmatic approach to adopt given the limited technical ability of the vast majority of our squad – and there’s what we’ve largely been served up as ‘football’ for the most part: clueless, void of a clear and consistent game plan/tactics, resorting to aimlessly hoofing of the ball etc.
This is not keeping things simple and being pragmatic; this is ugly and mindless dross that could have sent us down to League 1.
– I don’t think Bright and Cavaleiro are mediocre players actually. Price (and Saiss) is good when he’s at his best. Struggles with inconsistency.
– Arsenal changed their tactics to 3-4-1-2 (5-2-1-2 in defensive mode (?) with success. The extra central defender could play a dynamic role switching between playing in a deep defensive midfielder role in attack, and as a central defender when the opposition has possession. I think it would fit our team better playing a 5-1-2-2 formation though.
I don’t think the squad is solely made of mediocre players just, as I say, largely.
Re Bright and Cav, specifically – while they show glimpses of tecnical ability, I’ve not seen much evidence of this translate into meaningful end product yet, ie assists, goals etc. Hopefully, this will start to develop next season.
You’ve certainly got a keen and observant eye for systems and tactics, mate – it’d be great to think we’re not too far away from being similarly tactically fluid and adaptable as some of the better teams are able to be.
Re formation and tactics,
No. The players are not better than the performances that they have turned out. Forty plus games is more than sufficient to give a fair and balanced picture. The fact is that their individual and collective performances taken over the season as a whole says exactly what they are. Absolute dross. Unworthy to wear the shirt.
The identity of the coach has made virtually no difference. My contention is that no coach would have managed to get any sustained performance from these inadequate individuals. To try and heap blame on either Zenga or Lambert is out of order. Period.
– Kenny Jackett missed out on the play-offs on goal difference.
The team isn’t much weaker on paper. In midfield it’s only Macdonald missing.
You have to be joking.
The team that almost got to the playoffs actually included strikers who could score with great regularity. You surely haven`t forgot Afobe and Sako ?
Yes, the rest of the team may not have been that much different, but the defense back then was just as rubbish as it is now, conceding far too many goals. The big difference was that we were able to score more than we let in.
– The strikers haven’t scored. Dicko and Mason have struggled due to injuries.
– We now have Costa, Cav and and Marshall.
– Why we scored more goals could also have to do with how long time they’ve played under Jackett, and that they knew Jackett’s system better than they know Lambert’s. The arrival from the first division, as winners, is also a different scenario than taking over after Zenga a team which struggled.
Steve, I think you show unreasonable bias towards Zenga coupled with an over-reaction against Lambert. The fact is that our form under Zenga, apart from the occasional exception, was in general dreadful, and it is the case that we were in a dangerous downward spiral when he was very correctly fired.
Lambert is by no means perfect. But he has a decent track record, and he should be given the opportunity to put together a squad capable of enabling us to meet our ambitions.
I think that Thomas`s analyses of the performance of both Zenga and Lambet have been consistently fair and balanced. To my mind he has always been very objective, and has shown no bias. The real issue is surely the abject quality of the majority of players within the squad. They are simply not good enough. Period. Neither manager was responsible for this recruitment, and frankly I doubt that there is any coach on the planet who could have consistently motivated this dross to performances any better than we have seen throughout this awful season.
The guy who consistently manages to avoid serious criticism is he who played a big part in the recruitment process. Thelwell. This pompous nit wit has been an unmitigated disaster from start to finish, and yet he is still here. We should all be fervently praying that he has no input as to this summer`s recruitment process. Thelwell should leave the club immediately.
What have I said that demonstrates an unreasonable bias towards Zenga and an over-reaction against Lambert?
Mike I think that’s unfair.. if you look at the amount of games Zenga was in charge and compare it with the same amount of games under Lambert.. the Record is pretty much the same.. We don’t know if Zenga would have finished any better than Lambert as he was sacked.. Had Zenga been here in January what might have happened we will never know…
Personally I don’t see any improvement since Jackett and our league position proves that so this season we have gone backwards under both Zenga and lambert…and Fosun…
Nige your comments regarding the lack of progress since Jacket`s demise are spot on. We have undoubtedly failed to move forward. But my point is that lack of progress in the last resort is down to those out on the pitch, and in our case, we are woefully lacking in quality throughout the team
We were failing miserably under Zenga, so that Fosun understandably fired him. As you say, Lambert subsequently did little better. But is it likely that any other coach could have got much more out of this shambles of a team than either Zenga or Lambert did ? I very much doubt it.
Surely now is not the time to start the process all over again. It must make far more sense to give Lambert the opportunity to form his own squad around the tactics that he intends to apply. Only if events of next season demonstrate his failure should changes be made. I have a feeling that Lambert will in fact prove to be successful. — assuming that he is sufficiently ruthless to cull the dross and that the idiot Thelwell is kept well away from the recruitment process.
Mike
In addition to you not yet stating how I have demonstrated unreasonable bias towards Zenga? – I’m struggling to see where you’re going with some of this, mate…
Thomas has said himself that he feels he has been critical of both men on occasions (my point is simply that the stick he dished out to Zenga was disproportionately high compared to that which he has thus far chosen to level against PL) and you have stated that you feel these analyses by him have demonstrated fairness, objectivity etc.
However, you then state that, such are the inadequacies of our squad, trying to ‘heap blame on either Zenga or Lambert is out of order’.
Given that Thomas has admitted that he was never a fan and was critical of Zenga – can I suggest that your familiarise yourself with some of his blogs during Zenga’s tenure, particularly towards the end, to see just how damning this critism of him was.
Are you now saying that Thomas was ‘out of order’ for doing this?
Furthermore, are you saying, such are the inadequacies of our squad, that ANYONE who has ever critised either Zenga or PL are ‘out of order’ for doing so??
Steve, the beauty of these Boards is that genuine supporters like us can exchange views openly and constructively. On this occasion I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
I look forward to reading your opinions on numerous future occasions — no doubt we will be in agreement over the majority of issues arising
Absolutely – good man.
Let’s just hope it’s over more positive issues than we’ve all had discuss over recent seasons!
He’s already shown he can’t motivate players, what more do you have to see. Player quality and player motivation are two different things.
Well done Thomas for continuing with the positives i.e. Dicko’s performance , instead of a scathing attack on the rest of team . Getting back to his best !!. Hopefully a nailed on for keeping next year . Edwards too played for pride
The rest should be made into pies and sold at a discount ( plenty of potatoes in them so you can have a bite , put them in your coat pocket and the gravy won’t run and ruin your coat ) mmm lovey pies
Saiss and onion , cavelero and mushroom … just the ticket for those cold November nights down the old mol !
Matt, looking forward to seeing you both next weekend and having a large Costa on the Rocks, can’t be doing with veg in my drinks.
You’ve been hanging around with Cheeseburger O D, I reckon.
A message for Mr Lambert
” We cannot blame you for the shambles of the squad of mediocre over -paid, under-performing prima donnas, assembled prior to your arrival. And we can also accept that no matter what selection changes you made from week to week, no new combinations or changes in tactics would have produced much better results, since the talents and commitment [ or lack of ] of by far the majority of players at your disposal are hugely inadquate, being far better suited to the lower divisions. We are just relieved that we have survived to fight another day
But that is the only leeway you can accept.
The coming off-season period is your time. We expect you to have the courage and strength of character to do what we all know to be right. If we are to have a real team for next season, we need far more than the “little bit of help ” that you have recently alluded to. Nothing less than a mass clear out of the dross of gross mediocrity that now clogs our beloved club will suffice.
Do it right and our superb supporters will likely make you into a hero. Fail to act decisively now, and you will almost certainly be seeking new employment come the end of September.
What a disappointing dip in form. I really hope we can finish off Preston at home and end the season positively.
It would make no difference if we beat Preston, the problems have been there for us all to see, and need sorting out as soon as this season has ended.
I think a 5-0 win against Preston would boost the morale of the fans, and even prevent suicides.
“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it’s much more serious than that.” – Bill Shankly
The PMDG’er gave her opinion of the match on Saturday.
A highly entertaining game with smooth, fluid football played mostly on the ground and through the midfield which showed good creativity.
Plenty of chances were created and two were finished off with aplomb.
Particular praise went to the centre backs, especially the number five who looked a class above those around him.
And the final score:- Bath City 2 – 1 Welling Utd.
We didn’t fancy the trip to Derby so we went to Bath instead.
Well, she is a shareholder after all.
The number five is on loan from Reading and looks quite tasty. Goes by the name of Axel Andresson, hails from Iceland. I wonder if he’s a pal of Jon Dadi?
Haven’t seen the Wolves ‘high’ lights yet but by all accounts the only two players that came out of the game with any credit were Dicko and…. er….. who was the other one?
Oh! Yes, Dave Edwards.
I’m definitely sharpening up my knuckle dusters for our APV car park shenanigans now! We’ve had the Rumble In The Jungle and the Thriller In Manilla so now we’ve got the Grey Two At The Park View!
Good to hear that Dicko was more like his old self on Saturday. Seems the rest were not at the races. Oh well, it’s nearly over and we can then go about picking new players for the squad. No doubt PL is anticipating our expert analysis and our list of ‘must have’ players. I mean he can’t be trusted to do it himself, I mean what does he know about football………………leave it to us Paul.
Fact: PL will be in charge come August. Fact: He will have signed players who he believes can make a fist of it Fact: He will have 5 to 10 games to get us on the ‘front foot’ because any poor start will bring acute criticism from the fan base Fact: He has now put his head on the block and made a public statement about past failures by the club Fact: he will live or die by the sword come late Autumn. So let PL get on with it. This time next year he will either be here or not.
Cheesey – I take on board your comments and in my heart of hearts fear that what you say is probably correct. I though don’t want to write off our season till October say and then have to play catch up with a new manager parachuted in mid season. I want us to get it right in May, June and July and hit the ground running in early August and get off to a flier. Imagine the feel good factor around Molineux if we started like an express train and sat top after the first ten games? I can’t see that happening under Lambert or with a squad that contains Batth, Stearman, Edwards, Price, Evans and Saville (to name just 6!).
Excellent summation.
The major obstacle may well be the Pompous, clueless idiot Thelwell. He was largely responsible for the recruitment of the dross that now makes up the bulk of our squad, yet he still seems able to sit in his ivory tower, ready to impart his meaningless advice to all who will listen. If Mr. Lambert allows Thelwell to have any input into who is recruited during the summer, he may as well quit now.
Central midfield is the issue.
So said Thomas in his preview article. I agree and have said as much myself many times. Lambasting our misfiring strikers when they have not been provided with any ammunition is plainly wrong.
Central midfielders of course come in many guises. It’s not an all encompassing position like a goalkeeper for instance.
There are defensive holding central midfielders (CDM’s as my sons refer to them) whose role is to sit and protect the defence, to break up opposition play and give the ball to their more creative colleagues. Players like Matic, Coquelin, Wanyama and Fernandinho. Karl Henry fulfilled the role admirably for several years under MM.
Then there are creative, attacking central midfielders who make things happen with defence splitting passes and clever balls others don’t even see. Players like Ozil, David Silva, Eriksen and Fabregas. Peter Broadbent and Dave Burnside would be two examples in days gone by.
There are also ‘box to box’ central midfielders whose role is to provide energy and to carry the ball for their more creative colleagues to do some damage with. Kante would be the perfect example of this. Most teams nowadays have dispensed with the ‘box to box’ types preferring instead to have two defensive holding midfielders sitting deep and protecting the defence and one creative attacking player in behind the striker.
Of our magnificent 7 four (Coady, Saiss, Price and Evans) fall into the Matic type, three (Edwards, Saville and Oniangue) fall into the Kante type. None are an Ozil type. I don’t know of any other team who plays with a central midfield three without one of them being a creative, attacking flair player. Apart from us.
Since McDonald was sold we have lacked a creative force in central midfield. We all know that. Teixeira looked like he might be the one to provide it but was dispensed with as soon as Lambert took over. Enobakhare looked to be a possibility too but was removed from the squad by Lambert. The January transfer window gave an opportunity to bring someone in to do that vital role but Lambert chose not to.
So I reckon Trigger Lambert read Thomas’s article but misunderstood. That’s the only reason I can think of for playing 5 of those 7 central midfielders in the same team at the same time though none with any flair to provide ammunition for our starved forwards. This also led to the nonsense of playing two honest but one paced central midfielders as our full backs against a side with two pacey wingers despite us having proper full backs (none of whom could be tired out as they’ve hardly played under Lambert) available like Iorfa and Silvio. So yet again Lambert opted for playing a central midfield devoid of even one iota of creativity or flair.
Our esteemed gaffer also said pre-match that our players were tired and shagged out.
So why pick a player who has started every single league game since November – and then keep him on for the whole 90 minutes? And if they are so tired and in need of a rest why not use all three substitutions? Why only use two?
I raise these points not to be needlessly negative but to point out that our manager is making ridiculous and very basic errors in his team selections and his choice of formation. He is saying one thing then doing the opposite which suggests to me not a man who is manfully trying to play with the cards he has been dealt with but one who simply doesn’t know what he is doing.
A man limited in thinking and ambition and unable to grasp the fundamentals of modern football. The days of nothing but effort, putting in a shift, huffing and puffing and hoofing and hoping and running around a lot are gone. A more enlightened coach would know that. Lambert seems not to. Six months into the job and a January transfer window and we are now no further forward than under Zenga.
I really hope and pray that I am wrong and that Paul Lambert turns out to be the Messiah to lead us to the PL (promised land). Right now I believe he isn’t the Messiah – he’s just a very naughty boy.
OODCL
Rumours afoot about Gary Monk leaving Leeds. I wonder if there is any connection with Wolves? He has undoubtedly been more successful than Lambert.
To form result representing our true position currently and
laying the land for nxt season.
If one was mercenary there are 7 players at risk we are that far off being auto promotion.
If all our blog thoughts regarding the team were put together then If we don’t buy 4 key players as a minimum
then the assumption is that we will miss the boat again..
PL imo cannot consistently get an over performance out of our mediocre players who like this match can opt out of
Playing to their best..
Big Sam at Palace ..and particularly Harry redknapp can do this – Ironically my no 1 and 2nd choice to of replaced Zenga..
Are we just hoping nxt time around or will we buy well to make it happen..?
I think I know the answer..
Regards to all at the bloggers bash ..I can’t make it as I have
a building site to contend with…
COYW
I’m with Doogooder re Edwards, I can’t fault his commitment and 10 goals. We have been a Jekyll and Hyde team this season, with excellent and truly dire performances.
We do need to ship out most of the midfield Saville Evans Price Coad. I’d let DB go. We need 1 or 2 new strikers as well as one or two MF. We need to get another GK as no. 2 to CI.
If we keep Costa, Cav. Jordan. & Zyro, that’s a start. Marshall is good, but I’m not that sure Weimann is worth buying.
I am not certain that PL will be here in August, who knows. His record is not that impressive. That said, I have no evidence to dispute Cheeseburger’s statement of facts. I just think that if someone was available that Jeff Shi thinks is better, then things might move quickly.
I admit, I thought that PL was a good choice and said so. However, I don’t like the number of long aimless hoofed passes, nor the negative tactics. Maybe PL will build a better squad in the summer. I hope so, but believe that he won’t last the season,.
This notion that Lamertt is only working with what he got till he get to preseason when he can bring more of his own in is nonsense when he supported Batth’s, Evans and Edwards new contracts.
To over look his in unwillingness to change formation ie one up front all the time home and away to keep playing his Golden children Saville and Edwards despite there constant short comings all be it out of the natural positions oh and yes that as well to over look his one demetional TATICES is suicide.
It’s the blind leading the blind and again ill say it he be gone by November mark my words and that will be another season over…..oh and one game to go before I’m proved right about Costa and I don’t mean him coming on for the last ten minutes to say good bye….from the start..!
Perhaps they gave them new contracts so they could sell them more easily.
They go new contracts to ensure they couldn’t leave for free in a few months time.
Yes, exactly. If the can sell them, they are worth more under contract. Just because they are under contract does not mean we can’t get rid of them.
You can’t make this stuff up. Lambert wasn’t even our manager when Batth signed a new contract in Sept 16 but hey, lets blame him anyway. Talks on Edwards new contract began in July 16 when oddly enough PL wasn’t there again but what the fc*k has that got to do with it? Check it out here:
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2016/09/22/danny-batth-signs-new-contract-at-wolves/
We seem to go through the following every week but still the penny doesn’t drop. PL has to work with what he has to a certain extent – he can’t change the whole squad. We brought in a dozen or so players last summer and see where that has got us. Why the fc*k would we want to repeat a mistake that’s been identified and acknowledged by all and sundry again? Tell me Paul, why would we want to go down that road again after last years fiasco?
FFP dictates that PL has to use the best of what we have and bring in another 4 or 5 players. He can try and get rid of some players but if they are under contract and as piss poor as people like you make out who will want them? Is it Lambert’s fault that they were already here when he arrived?
Give him a fair crack of the whip before you judge him. That means a minimum of a pre-season along with the opportunity to bring in his own players in a couple of windows. If we are no further forward by the end of next season sack him by all means. If we sack him now what guarantees are there that the next man will be any better? I remember us sacking Mick and appointing Clipboard. I remember us sacking Solbakken and bringing in Saunders. Those knee jerk reactions set us back years but you want to do that again????????????????
Sack the manager and bring in a load of new players just liken last summer. If that doesn’t work just do it all again. You can’t make this stuff up.
The talks were on going they signed when lambert was here, Evans defiantly did and Lambertt rumbler stamped Batth’s and Edward saying it wa good bussiness by the club that’s what I meant when he had only been here 2 minutes, what he should of said was ALL contracts are on hold till the end of the season when I’ve assessed everyone.
Paul, I haven’t even mentioned Evans – that was you!
Good player though and was pleased to see him signed up.
Just because he might not be able to sell them does that mean then he has to play them…NO it doesn’t.
You say knee jerk reaction getting rid of the manager ok look at the season were you at Bristol City, Burton, Wigan, Rotherham and so on these are not his players true but is he making best use of them chopping and changing every week players who are midfielders playing at the back one striker up front home and away.
The worse football seen at Molinuex for years only on a par with the Hoddle era, worsed home record for years, yes the players have to take responsibility but so does Lambert.
As I said we will see come November whether I’m right or wrong I hope for Wolves sake I’m wrong but I doubt it.
Couldn’t agree more Steppenwolfe and pretty much exactly what I wrote after the last match. Don’t let the criticism get to you.
p.s. I’m still trying to work out what ‘demetional TACTICES’ are.
You and Lambertt then….both.
With the Portuguese connection at Wolves – I believe Marco Silva – Hull could be the man to be tempted to come to Wolves with a massive cheque book promised by Fosun. ( I believe he was linked to Wolves earlier in the season when he left Olmpiankos ?.)
Anyway, at least we’d see a few convincing HOME wins instead of the dross served up this season..
How I love rampant optimism.
That ‘Portuguese connection’ may consist of only Cav and Mendes before long. Having said that, its clear that Marco Silva knows what he is doing.
Only listened to the match on WM but ……………
PL really goes down in my book today, why play saville (Div 1 player at best – we all know and see it) he had Silvio, He had Iorfa and choose coady (non specialist but he is a Div 1 player anyway).
“They’re going to have to really grasp it. When you come to these places you have to step up to the plate.
“That 20-minute spell…they’re not at it. And that’s what happens. But we’ll be better next season that’s for sure.”
These were his comments after the match, what a load of b——s Paul
The commentators on WM all commented that in those first 20 mins when wolves were on the beach there was no movement from the Wolves bench i.e. all the coaches and PL should have been conveying to the players that their performance was not good enough – This has happened a lot throughout the end of this season and with previous managers (who are now all gone). Why no shouting to them (Ian Holloway was derided for this at qpr game but it showed passion) why no substitutes, if they are not performing just f–k them off.
Do not think they will change PL (this will be a mistake) but we need to see if G.Monk or M.Silva become available as IMO PL will not do it for us as he has shown fully that he cannot motivate this team of players.
Dicko had a good game, Edwards did his usual, but the rest it was not good enough for our great club and wonderful supporters who never stopped singing for the whole 90 mins.
This will again be masked in our last game v preston as the players will want to put on a show for the last game and its only 90 mins not a full season hey boys, you lot should hang your head in shame after the season you have given us.
Just read this and sums up the player and man dicko is IMO
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2017/05/01/wolves-striker-nouha-dicko-i-cant-wait-for-next-season/
Almost forgot to comment the Cavalero incident frustration as the player wants to be a costa but will have to learn to beat a man first (7mill)
Congratulations to ASH K on winning the prediction league, next year I really must avoid saying the wolves will win most games but that’s our lot forever optomists, which you have to be to support Wolves
Here here. Well done Ash – again. If only we can run away with promotion in the same way next season?
I agree completely with Bedford wolfs post. Nice article
Another disappointing performance in this disappointing season. It was the expectation back in August which only serves to make it worse. So where has it all gone wrong?
Obviously, the finger pointing has to begin with the players. It seems to be the fashion to make players were here pre-Fosun the main butt of the criticism. I can understand that. Familiarity breeds contempt and all that. But to me, the likes of Saisse and Cavaleiro are no better than what we already had. A little more ‘stylish’ perhaps, but scarcely more effective and I don’t honestly believe they care too much either. Of last summers imports, Costa of course oozes talent from every pore, and Jon Dadi has some great moments. The rest don’t deserve to displace the previous incumbents.
I can understand the clamour for Lambo to go. Preferably get a new manager in before the Preston game then at least he’ll have one match with which to assess his over bloated squad. Never mind that Lambert has now had half a season and almost certainly has a clear idea of what he needs to play his way. Square pegs, square holes etc etc.
Absolutely agree though that our position after 10 games will be vital for his future. And rightly so.
Oh, yes. Well played Nouha. REALLY pleased for him.
Familiar story of wolves, not turning up again.
Or is it that the plank can’t motivate the players again,as we know they can play, all be it only in FA cup matches. So imo the Plank don’t give a fuck.Gotta agree With everything Bedder’s posted spot on, for one hope Fosun Fuck him off,
I’ve just seen the highlights.
This might be stoking up the fires for a lively discussion this weekend but I really don’t see why most bloggers seem to hold up Saiss as some sort of holding midfield maestro.
To me, he may have ability, but he’s a disaster waiting to happen. Or two disasters as was shown yesterday. He gives the ball away in dangerous situations and he doesn’t track back.
The other thing I want to say, which probably won’t cause any argument, is what a superb boxing match that was on Saturday night.
A real throwback to the classic fights from the age of Ali, Foreman, Frazier et al.
That Joshua has more heart and sheer guts and determination than most of the Wolves squad put together.
Respect!!
Have to agree about Saiss. Show pony. Flatters to deceive and achieves little other than to give it away on a regular basis. No better then what we already had and far less commitment.
Definetly a part of his game he need to work on, yes. Giving away the ball to the opposition just outside of the 16m is often unforgivable. I know it’s a part of his game to play the ball side ways. So far he’s lacked awareness of his position, and has lacked risk analysis. Drillo, the legendary Norwegian coach, was very strict about not playing risky side ways passes in certain positions and phases of the game. The result was very few goals conceded on counter attacks.
Steppenwolfe
The difference between the appointments of clipbored, Solvakken and clownsaunders is morgan and greasel were in charge, and we all know the interests of Wolverhampton Wanderers football were the last thing on their greedy minds.
PL’s team selections are as baffling as ever. That’s the most worrying aspect of the current mess. Why play 2 men as full backs who are not full backs? Why include a full back on the bench and not involve him in the game? The sad fact is that in spite of major wholesale changes made on a regular basis, the coach shows no signs of knowing his most effective side. For the future, that is worrying. And it’s unlikely he’ll get the funds to make the wholesale changes needed to turn this squad into a competitive and winning team for next season. I hope I’ve got this wrong, but it does not bode well.
Maybe the fullbacks on the bench did not earn a starting position in practice.
If they are all floaters, then he may as well play players who will give an effort.
On one hand, we complain about players not giving enough effort and on the other hand, we assume these players are trying hard enough in practice or other games to warrant a start.
Derby’s midfield trio of Bryson, Johnson & Butterfield should be the sort of player we look at bringing in. Box to box who can press opponents, tackle, pass the ball, push forward and score goals. Players who will give consistent performances for forty odd games a season.
Like Doog I am yet to be convinced by Saiss. Some nice Hollywood passing but that’s about it. I also agree with Steppenwolfes post. It would be crazy to sack someone before giving them a fair chance.
Finally call me a cynical old sod but am I the only one who thinks that Cavaleiro wasn’t too upset at getting sent off and missing the last game of the season?
Spot on Mr Newt. Spot on. And not for the first time either.
If at least 10 of the current not good enough squad are not sold or given away, and far better players brought in, it will be a relegation struggle I`m afraid, not a play off position the team will be looking for next year. I hope I`m wrong.
I’ve not seen the last 2 games, but have witnessed all but 2 of our home games this season. I don’t think any Wolves fans can be convinced by Lambert leading us to anywhere other than mid-table mediocrity.
That’s on the evidence set before us.
But he’ll get a pre-season as stability is something to aim for. Hope he can do it for us. But he’ll certainly have to work everyone much harder to find a style of play that makes us harder to beat & to entertain us with some goals & flowing non houff it football.
My biggest gripe with him is his refusal to pick Jon Dadi & Dicko together up front. Whatever his reasons, it just seems non sensical to me. Last game can I hope? Nothing to play for, the beach awaiting. Can we have some goals & entertainment please?
Playing Dicko and JD together will mean we are lightweight in the middle of the park where we are currently struggling anyway. If your playing Cav you are another man down when you lose possession. If Saiss is also there, playing behind our centre backs, its always going to be a struggle.
Thomas, I agree with you totally about Lambert.
But Coady reminds me of Stephen Ward.
He was a striker converted to a full back by McCarthy.
Also, suitably slated, a little like Coady, when he played for Wolves.
“He’s useless as a left back,” was the m,ajority comment from fans.
I note he makes the BBC’s “Premier Team of the Week” today as left back.
Anyway, if I was Lambert I’d definitely keep Coady.
Neither Saiss nor Cav have shown in the past few games that they want to play for Wolves.
Let them go in the summer if that is the case.
We need to grasp the fact we are a struggling Championship team and success next season would be challenging for a play off place.
I’d like Fosun, as soon as the season is over to address the set up at Wolves re who actually buys and sells the players!
In reply to Steppenwolfe yes I see your point. But what’s happening now ain’t working.
Also Jon Dadi & Dicko are 100 per cent players who both are no slouches when chasing the ball down.
The midfield & defence are just not strong enough for where Wolves fans want the team to be. But if we had the two up front we would at least occupy the opposition more & perhaps do what we’ve not done in the last 3 home games score a bloody goal.
I’d say we need a quality keeper, centre half, full back, two midfielders, & a goalscorer if we are to seriously challenge next season. 6 players, unless Ronan , Ennis & Enobakhare can cut it. These 3 for me look like the youngsters who could make the grade in a promotion chasing team. They look to have some class. There’s nothing better than home grown talent either. Lot to look forward to…I hope.
I must be sitting on the wrong seat at Games, I’m agree Dicko played better this week, but, Ben Marshall ran his socks off, hustled, twisted and turned and fought for every ball, he seemed to be one of the few Wolves players interested in playing. Hardly a mention for the lad.
On the subject of Siasse and Cavilerieo, if I were a talented Portuguese player with an opportunity to come to the Golden Tit league and put myself on show, only to be surrounded by players who don’t understand about getting into positions when someone has the ball or coming back to defend when they don’t have the ball I’d be pretty pissed by now too. No one can excuse Cavilerieo for that stupid action on Saturday it was crazy, but hey ho I got married we’re all prone to rushes of blood.
I do believe they are better than what we’ve had for years and given the right team and a Coach that can organise, train and get the best from a squad, they will shine as did Costa, Texeirieo, Orangeino, Siviao and all the other ‘o’s that we mis used and mis spelt in wrong positions.
By the same token, I’ve never been PL fan, and nothing he’s done to date shows me he’s any better than KJ or Walter, in fact if I’m honest he seems worse than KJ and he was boring as F*#k. But again as pointed out in other posts, is he being stifled by the Thelwell, he seems to be the common denominator in our set up, arrogant, pig ignorant and cocky about his role. At the last fans Parliament he was asked about the youth players, he snapped KJ had boasted about their potential and was 100% behind them. I pointed out, that’s fine, but KJ’s idea was to warn the bench with their arses.
Every time we tackle these people at Wolves they have a scripted answer, a pre-written retort to all awkward questions, well, we’re bored of it, it smacks of arrogance and shows a total lack of respect towards us fans. Each time someone is voted MOTM, guess who the E&Slur interview in an attempt to hide the shit poor performances on the pitch.
Change is needed, but don’t hold your breath on that on, PL has changed his opinion twice and Thelwell will still be here making the same mistakes. More of the same next year for us i’m sure, they’ve had our money so why should they care.
Prove me wrong Wolves, there will be no one happier than me.
Totally, 100%, in agreement.
Bit of a concern that, (following in the footsteps of Chris Evans), our succesful recruitment staff are, bit by bit, gradually being dismantled.
Damned buttons…(see above)
http://www.norwich.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=489989
Thelwell has learnt well from the grand master of deception money methinks
Moxey not bleeding money but actually both when you think about it
There is always fuckin beer. Fuck ir!
Correction. Fuck it.
Stu you may have a point regarding perceptions that Cav Saiss and co have regarding the befuddlement occurring around them and I will consider it further. But I have to say I was furious with them on Saturday. Cav’s antics were shouting to me that I just don’t want to be here and Saiss may as well have pulled up a deckchair and an ice cream as he watched Derby’s midfield runners murder our defence. There was an earlier comment that Derby had the sort of midfield we would aspire to, quite right, but they accrued them by spending mega bucks over many seasons and yet are still only a few rungs up the ladder from us, same goes for Villa, so anybody thinking that opening up that Chinese cheque book is going to address previous under investment and bad expenditure overnight could be disappointed. We need to construct a team with a team ethic and belief that keeps going week after week not just in cup games. The galactico approach never really worked for us and never will. We do need some quality and based on past track records Mendes is our best chance of getting it, certainly Costa would not have looked twice at us without him. So there is your challenge Mr Lambert. Good luck.
Thelell’s mouthpiece (E&S) has posted this today.
Also it’s strongly rumoured we’re after Sam Hughes of Chester who’s been performing well and was made captain because of his efforts. (One to watch maybe)
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2017/05/02/new-left-back-a-priority-for-wolves/
Jackomac.
I agree on all fronts.
Believe me, I am not defending anyone’s performance on Saturday (with the exception of Dicko and Marshall). Just putting out an idea a certain bloke called George Best once wrote in a column somewhere.
“A great player doesn’t go to where the ball is, he goes where the ball will be next”
Kevin McDonald, Steve Bull, Kenny Hibbitt, the Doog, John Richards they all understood that, that’s why we enjoyed that era. My all time hero Wagstaffe totally understood it, he had the Talent to put the ball in that slot for them, knowing they would read the game and be there. Costa has that talent, but alas, I fear the lure of the Golden Tit will be too much for him. Unlike the Sako and Afobe saga’s for once I don’t blame him. I wouldn’t want to play under this dis-organisation to be fair and he is a guy with a talent that deserves to be at the highest level.
My problem with Lambert is, even though he is a fellow Scot I just have not warmed to his piss poor record, I personally would change him today to give the new guy a “Paul Lambert pre-season” with his new squad. What’s that all about? Even the players are banging on about it now, don’t they play together all week, every day, hour by hour, another PL anomaly.
I suppose being a STH, regular away supporter who goes to the U23 games on a Monday I’m a grumpy Bathpug due to Frustration.
But these are only my opinions and like my Prediction league WTF do I know anout football after all, I’m a Wolves supporter.
I’m still having £100 on Wolves to get promotion next year, that proves I’m soft in the
COMBabies
Full respect Stu for the time you put into watching the old gold and I guess like many others I too yearn for the days when we could attract the level of player gifted with a football brain and natural anticipation. The sort of thing that Thierry Henry was describing on Soccer AM. Unfortunately they seem in such short supply that the law of supply and demand dictates that very few will find their way to the Mol. So my expectations have been reduced to just expecting fitness and appreciating effort. I used to be more tolerant of reduced effort if flair and skill were displayed. These days I’m less tolerant of everything, but particularly a lack of desire in very average players earning extraordinary wages. My kids reckon I sound just like my Dad used to, so maybe I’ve just got to shake myself up a bit and re-find the positives.
I hope Thomas when creating this blog now gets out of it what he originally intended.
With 20,000 visiting fans per game & considerably more across all corners of the earth there will always be more permatations than what Enigma could predict for our team and it’s starting 11.
No one will question that we have a mahoosive squad that requires culling but who I think should stay or go won’t be considered.
Some I will be dileriously happy to so go but I’m not sure I’ll get my wishes.
I do believe that changing managers IS NOT the route to consistant football.
But we have to get new faces in now & please Mr Lambert show us in the last game a theme for next season.
If you play with Saville et al I’m sure you are then planning to keep them next season
I do believe we need 4 or 5 players & the best of the current bunch & a pre-season
One word of warning thou – Fosun will make the changes if by Nov it ain’t working.
Fosun have Wolves as a new entity/ project & will succeed within the next few years & then the length of these blogs will be vastly reduced!!!

What we need is eleven Dave Edwards.
No, I am not Doogle in disguise, we need eleven players on the pitch with his commitment, work ethic, love of the club…………………..but with 100% more of his skill.
Then we might go somewhere in an upward direction.
But if the above is not forthcoming, fuck ’em all off and start over.
Could it be much worse?
Answers may be addressed to me in person this coming weekend.
For the first time ever, I think we’re in agreement Clive…. almost.
I will address an answer to you in person this weekend, in the shape of a pint of Shipyard.
Abomination at um. Unbelievable fuckin shite. Nine um games nil goals. Gorra be better nxt yr. DULL DULL DULL
I hope THE PL ANK gives the kids ago come sunday, and whatever happens it’ll give us a good look of whats in store for the future and i’m sure they’ll be proud to wear the shirt and give us fans something to cheer about regardless of the score win or lose.
some will say it would be detrimental to their development if we lose badly, but what a chance to play in front of a packed ground with us fans giving them the roar.
Are we to be bookies favourites to go up? I Doubt that ….I guess at 12-1?
I see we are 2nd favorites for the title and also in the betting for relegation. Could be a topsy turvy season. Again.
CALLING ALL BROMPTONS! CALLING ALL BROMPTONS!
Hey Steve, can you let me know if you’ve picked up my emails please mate?
I’ve sent you a file by Wetransfer which you will need to download.
I’d phone you but my Entertainments Committee seem to have mislaid your number.
Heads WILL roll!
Well, thanks for the memories wolvesblog – the voice of reason in a mad, mad wolves world.
Personally, i dont think lambert has the skill or the bottle to drag this club into the premier league – and it will need to be dragged – but he will be given and perhaps at least deserves the chance of a full pre-season and to fill the 6 or 7 positions that need filling.
I see in the paper that Lambert reckons a LB is definitely a position we need to cover? I would have thought Striker was far more obvious … but then we currently play midfielders at the back and wingers up front so what do i know…
Gary Rowett seems to have an opinion on the matter however
http://the72.co.uk/79982/gary-rowett-says-playing-players-right-position-just-common-sense/
Anyhoo… A few months off from this circus will do my sanity and my hair-line the world of good, I can only wish the lot of you a happy summer and hope we reconvene with several shiny new players and a much brighter outloook than the one we finish the season off with.
Au Revoir !
Can we please finish ahead of Dipshit, I mean Ipswich.
You were wright first time!!
So here’s the question. Is Mendes going to have as much influence this summer as last? Last year, the idea was to bulk up and get some players. Some worked out and some did not.
Will Ken, I mean Paul, be able to choose from players he wants that have had prior success in the Championship or will Jeff want to try players who haven’t but have potential to grow and make an impact at both this level and then next.
I’m hoping for another Costa – maybe Talisca. I don’t want them just to add journeymen Championship players, no matter what their success level has been in this division.
Nothing of note is going to happen this summer. Not if Lambert is in charge. When he is saying he wants to strengthen this summer, and when we are saying we need to strengthen, we are talking completely different languages.
My interpretation of strengthening is “11 Costas”. Understandably and realistically not at once, but that is where we need to be headed. We need to have a whole team of “Costa-calibre” players over the next 2 years if Fosun’s ambition is to break into the premier league.
Lambert’s interpretation of strengthening is to complete the permanent signing of Wiemann, maybe add 1-2 other championship-calibre players, and work with the youth system.
Hopefully I am wrong, but his behavior so far totally indicates the latter rather than the former. I mean if he really meant to get rid of Saville, would he really play him till the very last game? How crap does Silvio have to be if Lambert keeps playing Saville or Coady as full backs in his place? My bet is he will keep both of them, and several others of our mediocre bunch.
Someone earlier said that Lambert cannot be blamed for the current set of players he has to work with – true. But he can be blamed for the ones he picks to play week in week out, the positions he plays them in, and the tactics he deploys. He also did not do enough in January when he had a chance, so I don’t buy the sob story that it’s not his fault. The right manager would have done better. Much better.
So either he is just keeping his cards very close to his chest and will surprise me in summer (if only), or get ready for another round of the pantomime … you all know how it rolls – we’ve seen it repeatedly for too many seasons now.
Sorry guys. Not meaning to be negative but I just don’t see it from Lambert right now.
GW.
Nice post GW. I fear you are correct. Perceptions differ. What Lambert wants and what we expect are likely to be very different. He seems to want a workmanlike, experienced, mostly British squad who can mount a challenge for the play-offs. I, and I think I am not alone, want more than that. I want an exciting, young and talented squad, British or otherwise, with a few old heads mixed in, that is capable of winning the division outright and to be able to make the transition to the next level. We shall see!
Bedford, you’ve just about summed it up. Lambert evidently wants to build a Mick McCarthy-type of Championship winning club. Put a shift in, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday.
Then, try and survive in the PL. It doesn’t sound very exciting but most of us would grab it with both hands given the chance. Mick’s methods could not ultimately make that transition to success at the next level.
If Lambert is kept on at Wolves, then the above scenario is probably the best we can expect in the short term. But I believe Fosun would ditch Lambert if we get promoted and replace him with a big name coach (from Mendes?) with a transfer budget to match. While I can see Lambert getting us promoted along the lines of a Watford or a Burnley, I don’t think he can take us any further than bare survival in the PL.
Any Cnance for Tammy Abraham coming over on loan. It seems Chelsea are inkling to sign him to a new deal but I still don’t see him cracking the first team line up. Most probably they loan him out again….
I DONT know about you but i am sick to death of the whole bloody lot of it. I need a break.
I DONT expect huge changes come next season.
I DO expect pretty much the same squad as this season with a couple of additions and thats it.
I DONT believe for a minute Lambert will get us any where near the playoffs.
I DO believe he will be gone by Christmas.
I HOPE i am totally and completely wrong .
I DONT think i will be.
I AM having a summer free of the debacle which is Wolverhampton wanderers.
I WILL have a little peep now and again though ( as you do )
Have a little peep at what?
you know thingys
wolves thingys … that is
You are digging a deeper hole for youeself with that thread, Spikeyboy!!!
Or even yourself
Damned left handed keyboard
bailing out of this one before i disappear down a chasm.
Lambert has to worry about what Fosun and Jeff Shi think, though. I think Jeff’s thinking is more in line with what the fans want.
Would be a great excuse to get rid of Lambert, though.
‘I don’t want them just to add journeymen Championship players, no matter what their success level has been in this division.’
You’re absolutely right. Look at the squads at Derby, Norwich and Villa – all chock-full of Championship experienced battlers and none of them near the play-offs let alone automatic promotion.
Also, given his experience trecking around Europe, I cannot understand Pl’s apparent lack of xconfidence in non-British players
Also, I can’t uderstand Lamberts apparent ack of faith in non-British layers given he hass spent so much time looking at how things are done in Europe.
Costa will not be wearing a Wolves shirt again……….he’s still injured………” Ever get the feeling that you’ve been cheated ”
At least the residents of Featherstone have been spared the site of a 50 year old running bollock naked round he village.
Well I would never have predicted that…..shock horror…!
PF AD67 – Classic piece of Johnny Rotten cynicism towards Malcolm McLaren. Never Mind The Bollocks Costa is off !
Well … for what it’s worth , I think you’re barking up the wrong tree . I think a work man like side is exactly what we need to get out of this division . Doesn’t have to be boring
Alex Rae was a workman like player
Paul Ince was a workman like player
Start of the season saw ridiculous changes to a team that were just not far outside of the playoffs and look what happened.
Let’s back out of this division ( upwards this time ) See you lot Saturday
Alex Rae and Paul Ince were super stars as was Irwin, I don’t see any workman like players like that trio in the current squad !!
Arriving about Three o’clock on Saturday. Come on you piss heads and you Wolves on Sunday, bring it on !!!
After the past few disappointing, to say the least, games I felt so down that I could not bear to read any comments regarding the team as it would lead to me feeling even worse. However, time partly heals and puts things into perspective… I have been a supportive follower of PL and am prepared to give him some leeway due to the unwieldy squad he has tried to accommodate; he must surely know now which players need to be let go and who to retain, with, probably a few on the cusp. Our best spell of games under PL came, of course, when he played a more or less settled team and I hoped this would continue until the end of the season barring a few injuries. Maybe he felt the need to include all the first team squad to some extent in the hope that those left out did not feel snubbed enough to cause unrest on the training ground; maybe he felt the need to make sure he was not overlooking anyone who could produce on an actual match day rather than in training. Some great players in the past have been comparatively poor trainers. Whatever, we the audience, have had to suffer many disjointed, unfathomable performances of late and this can not and will not be put up with after a much needed preseason with, hopefully a better integrated and capable squad. To be fair, many of the away games have been up to standard, not all, and the followers of these games have been `top of the Premiership` standard. Next season can’t start too soon for me.
For the non-UK residents amongst us:

Spotted that one, now that’s a bargain for a season Ticket, £110. Money well spent for you guys overseas.
Bill McGarry was a hard but fair manager I thought, let’s see if his fellow Countryman PL can be as ruthless and steadfast in what he said he would do.
20 – 23 players sounds bloody good to me, that way we would see the back of at Least 11 of them and more if we bought some in, as we would dump more to achieve his numbers.
https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/paul-lambert-planning-big-changes-at-wolverhampton-wanderers/
Stu…
We have to give Lambert a summer.
It took time for him to negotiate with Fosun.
For certain he got assurances about changes he wants.
I think much of what he has been saying has been purposely misleading.
Perhaps he’s been playing Savile so at least he earns his wages before he goes?
These Scots are a canny lot….
May you and the gang enjoy the get together!
Yes, but which 11 he gets rid of will be key. My bet is the list will include Costa, Saiss, Silvio, Borthwick-Jackson (or whatever he’s called), etc. It will NOT include Edwards, Saville, Coady, and most of the others listed in this blog.
Again, we are speaking a very different language to PL here. His trimmed list and ours will be very different I fear.
Let’s see.
GW.
How dare you!
I will not have the name of the great Bill McGarry sullied in this way!
What an insult. What a slur.
He wasn’t Scottish he was English!
It was a high five for Clive as he dropped into Twixfix Towers …and as you can see he wasted no time in getting to know Mrs Twixfix.
Great to see you mate and the start of the Ballbash get together ..
Clive from Houston, where the Feke is your cowboy hat !!
Twixo – are you still in New Zealand or is the photo meant to be upside down?
I was reading the first few posts between Steve and Thomas and found them to be very much confirm the same fears that I hold myself.
I’ve kept my head down for a few weeks because I Know I went mental over our lack of success a few weeks ago, but I still have very little to NO confidence in the current set up at Wolves from Jeff to Thelwell down through to Lambert and so on to the majority of the team.
Don’t get me wrong, II don’t want to sound too bleak here, but could any of our our players walk into the Brighton or Newcastle squads?……Somehow I have my doubts and these are the teams with which we MUST compare ourselves to in order to escape this league..
Now I haven’t seen anywhere near enough of the team that a proper supporter will have, so I can’t be too scathing, but it concerns me that so many of you guys that go regularly/religiously are so downbeat and scathing of the players and manager when we are supposed to be ‘on the up’ with our new owners and coach.
I hope you all have a good time on Sunday and that the lads win, which is the least that they can bloody do seeing as Preston have nothing to play for either. I can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of applauding the players on their lap of (dis)honour apropos their lack of success and always left before I had to go through any such bullshit ceremonies, but I realise that a certain and luckily for the Molineux bean counters LOYAL bunch of you true fans who will stand by the team whatever will stay back and will applaud….. I take my hat off to all of you, you are a top bunch. And easily pleased.
We were never gonna beat Derby, but they might be worth a fiver for promotion next year, Rowett’s a shrewd guy. I wish I had the same faith in Mr Lambert. There again, I’ve been wrong before….I’m sure I have!
UTW
Good morning fellow bloggers one and all!
Spent a lovely time yesterday at Twix Towers, in deepest rural Staffordshire yesterday, being highly entertained by Eileen and Twixxo.
I promised I wouldnt mention the tea bag, so I wont.
Today the mini tour is off to Beddersville, as soon as my first full English breakfast for a year has been ravenously devoured.
I just read about that wonderful manager Mourhino bitching, again, about the number of games his delicate little lambs have already played this season.
If a team is successful, then it aint rocket science to understand they will play more matches.
Duh!!
I wish we had played more this season, or were going to.
It would mean cup runs and playoffs.
Suck it up, you miserable twat, its not as though your club is hurting for money to bloat the squad size.
Foreigners, eh?
See y’all over the weekend
Far Cough w. b.
You’re up early Clive. It doesn’t mean you’ll get your breakfast any earlier.
Who the Feck is Eileen, ???
What did happen in New Zealand,
