He wouldn’t have been my first choice and he probably wasn’t yours, but I think we’re all ready to give Dean Saunders a chance.

Welcome to the pack, or should I say, ‘welcome to the jungle’?
The Welshman inherits a club at it’s lowest ebb since Glenn Hoddle decided he’d had enough in the twilight of Sir Jack’s tenure.
We needed a magician back then, so can our current chairman’s third wildcard appointment in the space of 12 months cast a similar spell over this downtrodden, under-performing group?
Like many, I’m not convinced.
But I didn’t welcome Merlin’s arrival in 2006 either.
For Saunders, it’s not just a sensible career move, it’s a smart one.
Things can only get better.
Players are climbing off the treatment table as we speak. Peszko and O’Hara both played at the weekend.
Deals can also be done to add new faces of his own, although ‘how many?’ and ‘how much?’ are questions we won’t know the answer to until February 1st (tentative backing was mentioned in the press conference).
In essence, he takes the reigns at a time when things were always supposed to improve, regardless of the man sitting in the dugout.
What he can do, that Solbakken never could, is win the dressing room.
Getting the best out of the old guard will be the first big challenge, but perhaps his ideas will resonate in a way the Norwegian’s never did?
Would it be insulting to expect a simpler approach?
I know little of his methods, but would suggest zonal marking is out.
His Doncaster side have the best away record in the entire football league, with 9 wins and only 8 goals conceded. That’s encouraging for our traveling support, after Saturday’s torture and the 8 defeats they’ve seen already.
His first challenge comes at ‘fortress’ Molineux though, where wins have been scarce and the atmosphere flat.
Shaking the malaise in front of the Sky cameras would be a good start.
Best of luck Dean.

Likewise he wouldn’t have been my first choice but hope he’ll surprise us! Good Luck.
Good luck Dean, you have a tough job with these frauds. Careful you don’t disagree to much with Henry, Doyle or ward as they seem to have gotten away with not being good enough and not trying hard enough
Louie, I think Dean Saunders will take no crap from the players.
We all know the problems with the ceo and chairman; but we should give Dean Saunders our support, in trying to bring Wolves back from the brink of Div 1.
Hopefully he lets them know the deal. And agree, must back him!
Henry saying he really tried to make Stale’s changes work in Express & Morgan I mean Star tonight, yeah right we’ll if that Henry and co trying Deno really has got his work cut out.I just hope Deno gives the kids a chane especially Griffiths and the lad who was on loan to Tranmere.
I just don’t know what to think any more………
He’s in a great position. Nowhere for the board or the players to hide now.
There was no little mention of transfer funds in press conference, Saunders ” I believe we have a squad good enough ” sounds like Morgan and Moxey speak for your not getting and money this window you’ll have to make do with what you’ve got . He not my first choice that would of been Ince or Keane but reading between the lines M and M are expecting Saunders to turn base metal into gold my worry is he isn’t being given the tools to do the job properly…….we will see ?
No mention of funds-They’re mark that on our Headstone when we are in Div 2. We will have one claim to fame the best stand and the most financially sound club, well until the lack of support kicks in of course. Really not impressed with this appointment it looks like Morgan thought “gosh I’ve got to act fast as I was a laughing stock last time, now who do I know through my Scouse connections???” Whether Saunders can do it or not probably isn’t in the poor sods hands anyway so it makes b**ger all difference. Sincerely hope I’m wrong but I’ve been alarmingly right over thelast 2 seasons 🙁
I think Stale had to go but I would have got rid of Greaser and most of McDonuts has-beens first. What use is a defender who can’t defend and a forward who can’t score at any level incl against Luton. They reached their peak first season in the Premier League and once you expose Ward to attacking forwards without Jarvis to protect him it’s just embaressing. Our attempts on goal are a joke and as for Doyle he’s way too nice and runs around to no avail, I want to see a hungry slightly aggressive forward who hunts for goals.
Good luck to Saunders if he has any sense he’ll dump 8-9 players asap and get some Div 1 youngsters in to replace them, as hardly 1 of them deserves to wear the shirt after the last 4 games I’ve seen.
We speak the same language,Chippy Wolf. These no-hopers who are hankering after McCarthy are in denial. McCarthys’ Plodders were a ‘one hit wonder’.That first Prem season, they ran their bollocks off-as per MM’s instructions,to such an extent, there was nothing left in the tank. The next two seasons found them out.3 years on and we are now seeing what’s left-nothing.In fairness to MM he did find one or two gems but where are they now ? They’re at Sunderland,Stoke and West Ham.And there lies the MM mantra.Get a load of donkeys with one or two thoroughbreds and you’ll get by.
As for Saunders, when he first exploded on the scene,I thought ‘what are they all raving about-he’s just a journeyman ? He turned out to be much more than that. What he lacked in finesse, he more than made up with hard work, developing himself into an excellent striker. If he can bring those qualities into management,we have a chance.
Ince or Keane? They have been rip roaring successes haven’t they? Give Dean a chance, and yes I have been watching Wolves since Cullis’s declining years and in my watching years the Ronnie Allen team,he built before Mcgarry, was the best!
Keane saved Sunderland and got the promoted as champions following season Ince got MK Dons promoted how many teams Saunders got promoted oh yeah sorry he got Donnie relegated yes Keane bombed at Ipswich they were in a right mess when he took over Jewel had spent all the money andInce was in an even worse situation when he went to Blackburn in the middle of take over by Venkys check your history.
Be careful Louie
Good luck Deano your gonna need it…..
I think it is a shrewd appointment.
On the picture at the E&S, Moxey doesn’t look very happy.
I think he is a stronger character than any of our players.
He will have no fear in dropping the likes of Ward, Berra etc.
Everything he has said so far I agree with.
Feel sorry for Ståle, but obviously his communication skills, were not the best.
We know there are problems with Moxey and Morgan but let’s hope ‘Deano’ can sort it out.
He is obviously a friend of Morgan’s and not Moxey’s which can’t be bad.
Let’s see if he can get them to ‘fund’ his ambition this January.
I bet Ward plays every game. And Dave Edwards will play once he is fit.
I think we’ve missed Edwards Adam! I am not his biggest fan, but he had a great game in that 4-1 win at Bristol City, got injured, and we’ve been saddled with Doumbia or Davis in his place.
I’m not saying he’s the answer, but from our current squad, Edwards would be in my team!
You’re probably right. Just making the point that those expecting a clearout of Mick’s boys may be disappointed. Back to the McCarthy template I reckon.
I thought Morgans barely disguised barb to the players spoke volumes…
‘”Dean is a really bubbly character. He’s enthusiastic and has already got struck right into training. He’s tough and anyone who thinks they’ll get away with anything will be in for a rude awakening.”
BTW did any of the local media etc challenge Morgan at one of his rare public utterances (seems like he only appears and speaks at the launch of new managers. So that’s 3 times this last year!) After the likes of the Suppress and Starve asked for questions etc how come no one at the presser really grilled Morgan and Moxey?!
I was gutted when he was announced as manager.
But after hearing his press conference – I feel more optimistic.
We need a strong manager who will kick some of our lazy players up the backside and get them playing. Saunders certainly talks the right talk – only time will tell.
I hope he does a good job.
I’m like Sam really don’t know what to think about this appointment. He may have had Donny awesome on the road but they are in League one. A place they reside because of his taking over in September, I read some where he couldn’t have really done any better with them now I could understand that if it was in March/April he took over but September the seasons only just started. WIth a win ratio of 35% it doesn’t look that great especially if most of those wins were in the league below us now.
Really don’t want to be the sounder of doom as I probably fall in the bracket of happy clapper rather than boo at the first sign of a crack in defence lot (talking of which see the Tesco Carrier Bags were booed of at half time because they were losing 1-0 last week and look at where they sit in the league).
Welcome to Wolves Dean and it will be worth having you just to see you giving poxey moxey both barrels of truth once you sussed him out which should be around now….
UTW Watch us win the Play-offs
‘He got relegated last season but there were mitigating circumstances.’
Where have I heard that before?
dean saunders gold and black army!
It might not be long before your singing ” Deno must go……….Deno must go hello, hello
Definitely gotta get behind him. After seeing some interviews I can’t help but like the guy. Hopefully he can connect a bit with the team and pull the dressing room back up if nothing else.
Got a ticket for the blackburn game anyway. Hopefully a better performance at the very least.
I’ve supported Wolves since 1972 and whilst it’s not as bad as I have seen it, it’s pretty damn poor at the moment. I think the players have a lot to answer for. If they have any pride they will start to perform for Dean like they never did for Stale.
I feel sorry for SS, I think he’s a good man who never “had” the players. I hope Dean does and clears some of the dead wood out as well as a few new faces in.
Here’s hoping, as ever UTW!
Agree that Bodgit and Scarper have no place to hide now.
Lets give Deano our support. Think if players suddenly start playing we will know what’s
happened with SS.
UTW
One can only hope that Saunders can make this work. I would start by sending a shocker around the dressing room by;
1) Sit Ward, Henry and Berra, they are poison, cancerous and have to much negativity in the dressing room.
2) Play the young kids, they will want to impress and please their new manager, just like a puppy wants to please its master.
3) Play Doyle for 50 minutes max. Pull his arse out and play Nouble or Cassidy
4) Pull Seb after 65 minutes and play….
5) Attack, go straight at them up the middle or, middle to sides. Play smart, creative football. It can be done, I believe they have the spirit.
6) In the dressing room address the entire team. Ask everyone to sit and ask them this question; “If you are not 200% committed to Wolves now and through the remainder of the year stand up, pack your bags and leave for free. There’s taxis outside waiting to ship your arse to the station or to the national Bus station where you can catch the next bus to your preferred destination”

Do a Google search for a poem called “The Man in The Mirror” as it’s known or “The man in the Glass” You will enjoy reading it, I have used it in the past. Let me know what you think.
All the best to Saunders. Seems like a likable guy desperately wanting to succeed, which he may well do.
However, let it never be forgotten how much Morgan and Moxey have fuc*ed up another managerial appointment. Dean Saunders CV is nowhere near good enough to be our manager. He was appointed primarily because he is Morgan’s mate. Pretty disgraceful stuff really.
do you not think his record at rebuilding sides, his extensive experience as a player and personality (determined, enthusiastic, cheerful) might have had anything to do with it?
or did you just look at the clubs he’s managed and not find out what happened there?
Promotions/relegations on his CV? 1.
A relegation.
Not arguing with that mate, just the assertion that this appointment is purely based on nepotism
I found out exactly what happened. Didn’t realise Wolves were in the business of recruiting managers who have done a decent job in non league and had half a good season in League One. Not to mention the relegation and the Willie McKay experiment.
What have we become? I’ll get behind him, but this appointment is an absolute joke!
When I first heard the news I was, like you, angry / shocked / confused.
I don’t have any particular faith in Morgan or Moxey not to continue to make poor decisions (although I remain to be persuaded that they are deliberately trying to ruin us).
I do think (or rather hope) that Saunders has enough enthusiasm and determination to set things right again.
And, like you, I am going to get behind him.
I don’t think a more experienced manager would necessarily have come to us anyway.
PS apologies for assuming you hadn’t done your homework
i for one think we will see a completely transformed side against blackburn . time will tell if hes any good….just give him a chance. how gutted would we all be if stalingrad was still manager.. wtid
Welcome to Wolves Deano. Good luck we are behind you.
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/2013/01/07/first-video-interview-with-new-wolves-boss-dean-saunders/
Great interview. Says all the right things. Especially that he has a plan!
…and it’s not rocket science :=)
Just what we need. The fullbacks will guaranteed get more support from the wingers.
I have a good feeling about this one. Doncaster didn’t have a Sako, a Henry, a Peszko and Berra and Johnson should really possess enough quality to keep our opposition at bay . We have underachieved, and It will be interesting to see what a manager like Saunders, that has achieved so much with little resources, can do with our lot. We have the best team on the paper.
Good Luck Dean 200% behind ya.
UTW
saunders is total and utter useless
he’s better than your grammar
Stop insulting his grandma!!!
Apparently he plays 3 systems. That will confuse the hell out of this lot!
Goog luck Deano – you are going to need it with these players. There is a pile of DVDs somewhere that might be worth look. I would recommend you start with the defence but make sure you watch in a darkened room with no sharp objects lying around!
This appointment makes us unique in the football league.
We are the only club to have four contenders for the prestigious Wolverhampton Wanderers Manager of the Year award.
Got to be a strong contender for post of the year. PMSL
Please Moxey Soon Leave?
(not really, i got the acronym!)
It’s a shame that we seem to have given up on the idea of attractive, modern, passing football, but I have to say I get a good feeling from Saunders. He really gives off a confident air, dare I say even a Clough-like aura. Obviously, his experience and past record is far from convincing, but for the moment I’m optimistic.
Talks a good talk, let’s hope he can walk the walk too.
Obviously Morgans man and little to do with Moxey from the look of the couple of video interviews I’ve watched.
Let’s give him time and see how he does.
Just watched his interview, got to say he sounds fired up! To at least get us out of the mire as NOT relegated this season, we NEED a motivator – in that respect it sounds like we’re on to a winner. Really think SS wasn’t backed by players or M&M; a real shame as he could have changed the culture at wolves, I’m sure. Although DS sounds like he has more experience than I give him credit for… 1st team coach at Newcastle & Blackburn I think, coaching the likes of Shearer & Owen, also Bale and Bellamy in the Wales set-up, so he deserves a chance, despite what his C.V. Might say! Anyway, can’t wait for the chant: boom, boom, boom, everybody say Deano, DEANO!! UTW!!
He speaks well, he doesn’t rely on endless footballing cliches and he gives the impression that he knows what he is talking about. I suggest we give the guy a chance, support him appropriately and we’ll soon have watched enough evidence to know whether he is actually any good. Time now for some transfer window activity before any of the ‘ old guard’ get the chance to become comfortable again.
If I was Dean Saunders I’d ask every player in a face to face if they thought they were really earning their money. Then I’d tell them what the average Wolves supporter earns.
There’s a substantial number of players in this squad who were happy to get Solbakken sacked at the expense of losing the points that might have given us a shot at the play-offs.
Give them a boot up the backside, Dean. Make sure they don’t do the same to you.
If fans are expecting wholesale team selection changes I think they’ll be disappointed. And I think that it would be a mistake to suddenly drop all the experienced under-performers and throw in kids.
I reckon some players will be shown up to not having been trying under Solbakken. Whether it’s good or bad that they’re wearing the shirt at all is up to you to decide – but if they suddenly start performing 100% better then they’ll be the best players in the squad to be in the starting eleven.
Interesting post and one I agree with. Four managers in 12 months and the players, by and large, have remained the same and got 3 of those managers the sack.
Well i for one liked what i heard from the man. Hes ambitious and is obviously on a mission to the top. Lets hope its with Wolves. Good luck to the fellow. Cmon fellow supporters enough moaning and negativity for now lets get behind our new manager.
Well like it or not we’ve got Dean Saunders. Sounds like it will be more Mccarthyesc so thats Doumbia and Sako out for a start.
My worry would be that he doesn’t know the players and hasn’t got many around to advise him. That probably means he will play a pretty similar team to last saturdays. In which case we will lose.
You see the problem is the players aren’t good enough… that’s what it means when you keep on losing. Manager’s actually have very little influence – look at your own place of work for evidence of that. He already thinks these players are good enough. We know they are not. All the motivation in the world won’t get this lot winning.
So, I’m happy to watch and hope he is better than his CV suggests. He might be Mourinho; he might be Hoddle who knows. But he’d better have at least 8 names on his fourth teamsheet different from the 11 that played on Saturday otherwise we are in trouble.
for instance in come : Cassidy; nouble; sigurdsson, peszco, margreitter, batth and 2 new full backs. Keep Ikeme,Henry and Sako.
Hoping for the best but fearing the worst.
I agree it is time to get some positivity going. Let’s get behind the new manager and see what he can do.
Don’t be put off because you think that DS is an unknown quantity, Deano is highly regarded here in Wales, first as an excellent club and international player and since retiring he has been noticed as a budding coach, assistant manager and lately as a manager in his own right. He knows what is expected in the PL and the CH from players, from the management around him and more importantly from the chairman and his board.
He is a plain speaking, straight talker and I will predict fireworks for any players who will not do things his way, which will NOT include the hated zonal defence. Senior players will be expected to set an example to younger players and he will make use of the academy lads as they will be more receptive to his strong presence, experience and man-management style. Whilst he will beinitially charged with stopping our slide down the table and this will be uppermost in his mind he will be targeting the play-offs and he knows he is in for a challenge. Deano is an effervescent character who quite simply enjoys doing what he does and his enthusiasm will spill over into the club at all levels though I suspect Stan and Ollie will be expecting a lot more than a happy atmosphere around the club.
His experience will quickly tell him what and who is required to improve the team and he will expect to be supported in his venture. He will have a network of eyes around the country and abroad ready and willing to make suggestions at sensible prices.
Deano needs our support in this his most challenging opportunity. You will all be amazed and invigorated by his enthusiasm, diligence and care towards us, the players and the club.
His approach will be the exact opposite of SS, he will want the players on board but dissenters will not be mollycoddled and tolerated for too long. He is the ideal man to win back the players to the cause.
I hope that he will be supported by Laurel and Hardy in most if not all of his demands and not hung out to dry like SS.
AS ever UTW…!!!!
As a player Dean Saunders had a real presence.
At one time, toward the end of his career, there was talk of him coming to Wolves as a player.
He was an effervescent, intelligent footballer, who knew where the back of the net was.
It is certainly refreshing to read what he says.
Perhaps one of Ståle’s biggest problems was his ability to communicate.
hey Cwmbranwulf….did you write his CV by any chance….good post.
Wolverhampton born and bred and WW through and through, but been in Wales a long , long time.
Cwmbranwulf, well written blog, good job. Not bad for a Welshman. Lol
Welcome dean, best of luck. We are all behind you(I hope). Let’s get going!
you can divide the opinions thus: those that support dean and those who can’t spell.
Leave all the negativity aside just give the Dean Martin lookalike a decent chance. I hope he becomes a Wolves legend, better than Mick was as he did’nt quite, for me, qualify as a legend.
It would be great to hear the whole ground chanting Deano, Deano, Deano. Onwards & upwards.
Can’t wait for Friday now. Although I desperately wanted Solbakken out I do feel for the guy, he was definitely a step too far for the artisan skills needed in the Championship. I mean radical zonal defesive system? I just wonder how that went down in the dressing room!
But I for one am very optimistic again.
fascinating piece of video from the club:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=zXxMB8KNTIY
I’m impressed by what deano has to say, and equally impressed that morgan stands infront of the camera for the first 5 minutes and talks through some of his opinions on the Wolves. Obviously he doesn’t accept any blame but at least he’s there, talking.
as i see it, he’s done 2 rebuilding jobs already in the 2 posts he’s had, and he now has an opportunity to push on and build something significant. apparently he’s a skilled raconteur and mimic, and is regarded as the funniest footballer many other pro’s have played with.
well he’s gonna need a sense of humour to survive at the Mol, and hopefully that humour will compliment his work ethic and enthusiasm, and give everyone at the club the lift we so desperately need.
when i first heard his name mentioned on saturday night i was distraught. having read a bit more about him and heard what he has to say i am now excited for the future once again.
to the negative twats who mention his relegation with doncaster last season i have 2 words for you: willy mackay.
if you don’t know what i mean you don’t deserve an opinion, so please shut up as you only make yourself look a twat.
forgot to make the point i originally intended to – that i think he’s been hired more for his personality attributes than his CV.
but as i’m back i might as well draw your attention to this moxey interview in which he states we are a well run club, and he didn’t get caught on the hop when mick got the boot…
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20936102
Lovely bit of name calling there Sleachy. Helped by McKay, Saunders was able to finish bottom of The Championship with players such as Diouf, Chimbonda, Beye, Ilunga, Piqiuonne. Only one man was able to veto these signings. You guessed it, the class clown, Dean Saunders.
Thanks mate. I pulled out the big guns. Glad you approve.
Wasn’t mackay on the board, and Saunders therefore made to have the players in his squad?
I’m prepared to be proved wrong, but that’s how I thought it had panned out?
McKay says here that Saunders could veto http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2051618/What-agent-Willie-McKay-doing-Doncaster-Rovers.html
The blame lies more with the chairman than Saunders and he’s done a good job turning it round this season. Not enough to even get an interview for the Wolves job though.
Hmmm. He actually says
McKay added: ‘Dean has a right of veto, but is he seriously going to turn down Mahamadou Diarra, a guy who’s got 150 games on his c.v. for Lyon and 120 for Real Madrid?
And as McKay was mates with two of the club’s shareholders and has 2 sons at the Colin’s academy, while Saunders was less than a full calendar month into his first league managerial appointment, I would humbly suggest that his veto was worth about as much as a Moxey promise.
I really, really hope you’re wrong mate.
*club’s not Colin’s. bloody autocorrect.
So do I. I’m far from suggesting Saunders was to blame, but he can’t be absolved of all responsibility.
well hopefully we won’t try anything as daft as handing transfer policy to McKay, and Deano can be judged on his own merits.
he’s underqualified for sure, but he has a sparkle about him, and he’s our man now so we MUST at least give him a chance before we start sharpening the knives.
http://footballburp.com/opinion/doncaster-fans-give-wolves-supporters-the-lowdown-on-dean-saunders/
Interesting read here!
As for Saunders, he comes across as extremely impressive and passionate but the most important thing here is that it doesn’t look like he’s going to take lazy, underperforming players! Good!
this is the thing with football… there’s always believers and there’s always haters.
Dean Saunders, never saw that coming must admit, but now he’s here we must get behind him,
although he wasn’t my first choice.
Iv’e just watched his press conference and he came over very well i thought, talks a good talk and speaks with confidence and he seems to know what he wants,so we’re all in it for the ride so lets all get on board and give him the chance to steer us out of the gloom.
Only hope the players do also…UTW.
I think all the problems started when mccarthy replaced henry as captain with johnson. Since then, under 3 different managers, MM, TC, SS they players have been absolutely shit. I think this caused some very deep problems within the camp, and sometimes, these problems can never be resolved. Apparently henry and johnson had a massive row. Saunders must sort these issues out and get rid of one or other or both for the good of the club. I wish saunders well and really hope he can sort the dressing room out.
johnson Had an immense season at Blues then Mad Mick signed him and since then you only need one hand to count his good games. That’s the first place his Welsh boot shoud aiming at “Play or Go” Pick one.
Saunders to have any chance …..has to follow the Chelsea Lampard example ….
Get rid of the disruptive players NOW ……. , if not ……expect a new manager in the summer.
OUT …HENRY / JOHNSON/ WARD / SEB / DOYLE ,,,,,,maybe O;HARA ,but with the others gone he should be OK.
Cassidy/ Griiffin poaching up front , Siggy and hopefully Sako tearing up the wings….
Ohara /Pes
Don’t want to seem negative but looking at some of the Doncaster blogs, they don’t seem to upset on his leaving. The general consensus was DS style of play was kick and hoof the ball up to the front men. Served Doncaster well when playing away but their home form is not very good.
Anyway, enough said about Doncaster, this is the mighty Wolves, more money, more resources, better stadium, bigger fan base, better players, oh sorry got a bit carried away with that last comment.
Let the good times roll,,,come on me babies, good luck Deano you have the fate of our club in your hands.
Just hope Ward’s got nothing on Saunders as he must have been blackmailing the previous three managers to be such a permanent fixture in the first team. I look forward to hearing “Stop backing off, Wardy” being shouted harshly in a welsh accent from the dugout.
Seeing the interviews and hearing our new manager’s thoughts and opinions, I’m actually looking forward to Friday evening rather than the usual tense, nervous fretting!!!!!!
Me too !!!
Under SS this lot would have lost again, of that I am almost certain.
If Deano can at least get them to resemble a team that works together and actually want to perform in front of their own fans then I will be pleased. A win would be fantastic and a draw could be considered as a good place to start the re-build. If he can start turning things around in less than a week I will be a happy wanderer again.
As ever UTW…!!!!
I’ve always thought Dean Saunders had a lot about him and seemed a likeable enough fella. Even so, I was decidedly underwhelmed when I heard the news that he was odds on favourite for the job.
I was all set to post that all Morgan has learned from last season is that if you’re heading for relegation you should recruit someone who might be able to get you out of the division below. In this case, League One. Let’s face it, we’d have all been up in arms if Morgan had made the same appointment this time last year. That shows what a spectacular mess he’s made up to this point.
I must confess, I was hoping this time we’d go for a safe pair of hands, a manager with a proven track record and a decent win ratio. ‘Not a job for a novice’ we were told when McCarthy was shown the door. Two failed novices later and we’re still waiting for the board to take their own advice. There’s no denying this is another gamble.
Having said all that, I’ve quickly come around to thinking that, right now, Deano is just the shot in the arm that this side needs. Positively effervescent compared to Ståle, he can’t fail to get more out of this bunch of players and, like it or not, no relegated club can (or should) replace its whole squad overnight. Under TC and SS it was dour and dire. It’s a risky appointment that might not work out in the long term. In the short term, I’m looking forward to a new regime that might just put smiles back on faces. Wear the shirt with pride, play with passion, have some shots, score some goals, win some games, bring back the liquidator. Make it fun to be a Wolves fan again. Please. UTW
Is it just me that can’t see any new signings coming in? And if there are any, there’ll only be one or two tops.
My reasoning:
1. Richard Wilford (BBC WM) has already tweeted saying the squad is bloated and there is a pressing need to trim it. The E&S have reported this too. No secret this bit…
2. So that means we need to find buyers for a number of unattractive players who can’t even compete with Luton Town.
3. So that means we ultimately wait until the desperately sobering end of the window, in the vain hope we shift some players off.
Thus, we’re left with the same shower of shit that SS – and inevitably Dean Saunders – wanted to get rid of.
Even Mick won’t want them in the biggest irony of all! For SEB read McClean and McGoldrick, for example. So, pleased as I am to see Saunders (I genuinely am pleased with this for some reason!) I think he’ll be hamstrung just like his predecessor was.
Either that or Steve Morgan just thinks the current players are good enough anyway and retains this warped belief, hoping that Saunders will magically bring the best out of them?
No you’re not but I don’t think much money was ever going to be made available. The last few weeks we have been hearing from Jezzer that we have to sell before bringing players in, that the present squad should do better etc etc.
I also note that many links on this blog, and references to DS in the media state how he has done so well with so little money, how he has cut wage bills and so on. Perhaps I’m being negative but it is already smacking of the same old doing it on the cheap.
Like all Wolves supporters I want DS to do well but with M&M in charge we are always going to struggle. I look at Swansea, Stoke and the sh*t and wonder how we can fc*k it up so badly.
Yeah, I picked up on that bit, when Morgan said he did good work at Doncaster on a shoestring! Hmm.
It’s probably just me, but, when I hear SM speak, I always warm to him, daft as that sounds. Maybe those little eyes of his have a hypnotic effect, but I see him with his arm around Saunders on the training pitch, talking the good talk and question myself for ever thinking he had an ulterior motive.
Then the interview finishes, I take stock of it all and think ‘wow, what a ball’s up!’
I got tickets for one of the first Hall of Fame evenings and Morgan was talking then about Ron Flowers, and how ironic it was he was in the Hall of Fame when he could never get the Ron Flowers cigarette card for his collection!
I fell in love with Steve Morgan that night! Then, what transpires since has made my blood boil.
Maybe the journos in the press conference swallow it all up too, because I’m disappointed there wasn’tsome more hard lined questioning. I actually think the club might respect some of the reporters more if they grew a set of gonads. No wonder they have treated us with contempt for so long, because they know that no reporter will genuinely take them to task.
According to SM, as reported by E&S, money will be available to DS but players also have to leave – which is fair enough – much too big a squad including many who, I hope, have little future here.
Sounded just like it did prior to SS’s arrival 🙂
I’m hoping its only paper talk but the E&S reports we may be trying to take Jason Scotland on loan from Ipswich. . . . . . . . . . “You cannot be serious man”.
We’ve just sold Nouble to them – younger and with more potential and never got a kick here.
What chances of a recall for Ronald Zubar then ??
Did Saunders say anything we didn’t expect to hear, or wouldn’t expect from anyone else taking the job? Staggering how many people can be won over by a press conference.
Enjoy your 442 and amusing interviews
After the mind numbing shit and pantomime off-field antics this season Oli, I’d be won over by a Wendy Wolf and Two Step Dance Academy street dance, to a Justin Bieber backing track.
With that in mind, I’m off to feast over every last one of Dean’s dulcet tones!
You leave little Justin alone! My grandaughter thinks he’s pretty!!
Do players have a “Thou shalt not play or get paid as much if you underperform ” clause written into their contracts?
Why does football seem to be the only “profession” ( apart from politics) where no matter how badly you do your job, you cant get sacked?
Why cant the crap players be shown the door, like anyone else who doesn’t do his job as per description, for years and years?
I know my boss would fire me for not performing….and I’m self employed!!
In a perverse way, I’m looking forward to the team sheet on Friday, and the game itself.
Wonder if Hunt will get a look in, or is he still on Daley’s sick list?
FOwb
Why does football seem to be the only “profession” ( apart from politics) where no matter how badly you do your job, you cant get sacked?
This winds me up so much as a former employer, the contracts need to be re-written for every pro footballer to include the clause “If you underperform you will be sacked” or sold without any pay off in any way shape or form.
My prediction for man of the match Friday – Foley; he clearly hated that zonal marking crap, he’s a good lad and will be keen to put it right.
But his head is still out of proportion to his body.
Gradually coming round to the new man…at least he’s British, got an excellent playing pedigree, and isn’t Solbakken.
He’s (hopefully) on the way up and with something to prove. Just needs to sort out some of the ‘attitudes’ in the dressing room – and stand up to M & M regards transfer dealings etc.
How nice it would be to have confidence in our team and the Boss – talking of which, doesn’t he look a bit like Springsteen ?
I think he bears an uncanny resemblance to Kevin Keegan, at least from the nose up.
I agree, it’s nice that he speaks English proper loike wot we dunn, ay it?
Agree that there wont be many players coming in during the window. However I do expect Morgan has told Saunders that if he can keep Wolves in the Championship and ship out some of the deadweight that he’ll be given money over the summer.
Unconvinced by his appointment, but he’s certainly not said anything too stupid (yet) and looks to have to chosen his words considerably. Need to concentrate on keeping some clean sheets and stealing a goal or two.
Funny that he’s probably the first Wolves manager I ever rated as a player. Kind of the poor mans Keegan in many ways.
Must admit I didn’t want Saunders.
However he has said all the right things, but then so did Solbakken.
Lets see where he takes us. Onwards and upwards hopefully.
Interesting piece from Lou Macari about Wolves and the Club that Moxey left behind..
http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/story-17791131-detail/story.html
Interesting article that Nige! Makes a refreshing read, from an outsider looking in. I never cared for Macari much, but he speaks a lot of sense there!
Excellent article. Seem to recall similar questions about us needing a new stand and concerns about team investment being voiced on this blog at the time the ground redevelopment was announced!!!!
Still what do we know…not like weve been there before…once bitten…twice…ah!
He looks a bit like Bruce Springsteen. Will he be The Boss or was he Born To Run?
I’ve always thought of him as a poor mans Aidan Gillen
Good article by Macari Nige. Stoke have certainly moved on since Moxey left.I dont think Pullis would have let Moxey pull the strings.Hope Saunders doesnt or we will have little hope of advancement.
I am sure that my fellow Wolves bloggers will be devastated to learn that I have succumbed to the dreaded flu bug.
However, having just watched the youtube clip which Sleachy flagged up I confess to feeling a deal better.
I was impressed with Berra’s articulacy and his comment that Saunders would “Get us attacking and pressing again” which Ståle was against. In this division you need, more than ever, to harry the opposition and chase the ball down. You can’t play football without the bloody ball.
I was also impressed with Morgan’s honesty and openness in getting very close to admitting that he’d got the Ståle thing wrong. We would have to have changed virtually the entire team to make his method of football work and ‘zonal’ defending was always going to be way to complex for our limited players.
But I was mostly impressed by Deån Saunders, who has so much enthusiasm and life that he almost got me out of my sick bed and on to the training ground.
I really think that, given our situation and the fact that he is going to have to work largely with the players he’s got, he could well be the catalyst to a happy dressing room and a team that will give 100% (it’s mathematically impossible to give any more) for the manager and the club.
He will probably be very relieved to know that I will give him my full support.
Oh! yes.
One more thing.
I was happy to see that, apart from one brief clip of him easing his corpulence down on his reinforced chair at the press conference, there was neither sight nor sound of The Pieman.
Apologies.
When I said Berra, I of course meant Edwards.
Blame the overdosing on Lemsip!
Have to agree,
I think its very noticeable that Morgan has stood forward and done most of the PR stuff with Saunders. I don’t think I even heard Moxey speak..
Maybe Dean will forge a relationship with Morgan that means Moxey’s influence may not be as great. That Could only be a good thing.
Nige, reading the E&S just now and it seems Morgan can’t stop talking right now.
In fact it makes quite interesting reading.
Note, very little from Moxey, surely, along with the deadwood players, on his way out, along with Tony Daley?
DOOGooder think that significant that Pte Man has been very quiet.
Lets hope it stays the same. Git a feeling that Deano is not going to take his shit,
being a mate of Steve will help him too.
Are we seeing the demise of Pie Man?
Let’s hope so AlfWhite.
The demise of The Pieman would be something to see.
But a bit like The Terminator I think he’ll take a lot of killing.
I think so…..
Look at the picture during the unveiling of the the new manager.
Moxey is not a happy bunny and let’s hope his influence will wane.
Will be interesting to see what Deano does in relationship to the dressing room.
At least this drama has shaken everyone up.
Fascinated to see what the team will be Friday.
Nouble gone to Ipswich….
greasel doesnt speak. Grunts and other unworldly noises ooze from it’s mouth, becoming similar to farts.
Occassionaly one of those grunts sounds slightly similar to an intelligible word, kind of like the infinite number of monkeys and infinite number of typewriters theory of eventually producing the full works of Shakesspeare.
Edwards came across as slightly intelligent, not using the word like in every sentence, either.
What is someone intelligent doing at The Mol???
DOOGooder, the best remedy for your flew like symptoms is alcohol, Captain Morgan’s spiced rum to be exact.
Get a bottle of that down yer neck and I guarantee you will feel no pain!
Get weller soon, we need your calming prose on here to counter all the Texas based tripe!!
Cheers for the advice!
I don’t have any rum in the house but I’ve got half a bottle of Remy left over from Christmas.
I’ll get Mrs DOOGooder to dress up in her nurse’s outfit and spoonfeed it to me.
If Mrs DOOGooder is as nice as she sounds (god knows she must be saint to put up with your crap) I suggest you sell tickets of her in uniform feeding you.
That way you might raise a few bob, and buy us a left back!!
“…and ‘zonal’ defending was always going to be way to complex for our limited players.”..
This sentence sounds a bit strange . Solbakken played zonal defending in Norway, Denmark and Germany, and everybody did know it, ( but the ignorant Morgan? ) I may ask what kind of research he did before apointing the Norwegian?
I suspect he thought that either our players could adapt, or Ståle would adapt his tactics to suit the players he had.
What was obvious was that neither SS nor the players were prepared to compromise.
It doesn’t make for a successful football team.
Thanks. “I suspect he thought that either our players could adapt, or Ståle would adapt his tactics …” Morgan should not think, he should know. He had better sort out this problem with SS and the players before he appointed Solbakken. What happened is just too bad for your fine Club, for the players, for SS and for the fans.
I can tell you that zonal defence is alfa and omega in Nordic footbal. Most of the teams are playing in that way, and so are the National teams of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Nordic football is inspired by English players like George Curtis, Bob Houghton and Roy Hodgson.
Nouble off to join MM! Apparently we got a fee…………
Sunders has pedigree and experience relevant to the job which sadly Stalle didn`t. Major cockup by the owner, although nothing wrong with the owner trying something new and different – even if it went tits up.
Saunders now realises he has to shift out 8 or 9 players, then get the remainder out of their comfort zone. Thats been apparent for around 2 years for me, and is MM`s legacy. You couldn`t give them away at the moment, hardly going to raise a ruck of money from disposal of these not fit for purpose pllyers. Even Stalle said the Championship had moved on, with the leading clubs spending big money to freshen things up in an effort to reach the prem.
More quality, less quantity, didn`t need a brain to work that out Morgan, lets just hope you are backing the new manager with some money, and that things can be turned round. Thats what the supporters really want, just do that, get rid of the dross, and get some pacey mobile and hungry players in. Shouldn`t be too difficult – should it !?!
Mr, Doogooder, Were you not thirsty over the Xmas break. I do like a drop of Remy but am making do with Soborano and + degrees at the mo. Tough life but someone has to do it.
2 or 3 wins and back in the race. We can do it, can’t we.
Wasn’t that a series about mob families….The Sobranos?
Sounds good. Where are you getting the + degrees from?
Yes I was thirsty over the festive season but I’ve recently got very heavily into Yellow Tail Shiraz (I can’t get enough of it!) and what with that and the port, the brandy didn’t get too much of a look in I’m afraid.
And yes, we can do it.
Doog,
Ditto on the Shiraz, it must be a Wolves thing. Just realised this Christmas must be first ever I didnt do Port or Sherry, but made up with beer and Shiraz.
Like many I am liking what I am hearing now lets walk the walk.
Nouble gone, obviously did something wrong but what the hell was that all about, just bringing him in for the sake of saying we signed a player. Thats the reason we are bloated and the fact Moxey wants top dollar for junk.
I do think Deano might re energise some of the core players hard decisions will be some of the marginal younger players who really should have broken through but have not had the cahnce, he is going to need vision on those calls
Guys I also use Shiraz as my go to red, If you get a “Special Offer” From Naked wines or Laithwaites, treat yourselves to a mixed reds case. I have had some belters. NOTE It is very good value with the special offer not so atractive witout, the direct opposite can be said of Mrs, Somebloke.
Get well soon.
DOOGooder, forgot to say get well soon. Dr. Clive has prescribed, so in a matter of days
you will feel better….or have the mother of all hangovers.
Thanks – I’ll keep you posted.
At first I was really anti Mr Saunders, thought we were setting our sights to low, but after reading a bit about him and the things he has had to say on his first day I am slowly coming around.
Hope the talk translates onto the pitch.
Good luck Deano
Come on me Babies
I can`t believe that MM has come shopping and didn`t ask to take his love child Ward. Surely Moxey could have negotaited a deal for Nouble and Ward, the fee would have gone from 3 shillings and sixpence, (showing my age eh?) to include a packet of smokey bacon crips for both of them. I mean if MM` scouting team said get Nouble in the first place, was it those two lunatics who scouted our useless, inept left back.
Can you blog scribes do a list of players sold under MM and Stalle (were there any). Good job there is a first team game on Friday, otherwise the new manager may have spent the weekend looking at those shocking videos that Stalle claimed to have watched.
Oh the joy.
Mark I wont have you being derogatory to smokey bacon crisps on this blog……. theyre my fave!
didnt you mean the three shillings and sixpence and the little blue salt packet out of the salt n shake crisps?
I was just on the verge of hoping I was wrong about Wolves and giving the new manager a chance when we go and sell the best potential striker in the squad … and to add insult to injury it’s to mick. and he’s not even one of micks men !!!
Watch this guy’s career take off now. He’ll have fifteen goals before the end of the season and out score SEB and Doyle easily.
This club is clueless.
A major dissapointmet that he left. When I heard Saunders was appointed I regarded him as a new signing and really hoped Nouble would get his chance in a wolves shirt. He did well in pre-season and scored goals. It couldn’t have been Saunders decision, that’s the biggest disspointment. Does Griffiths suffer the same faith? It is just mindless to sell players with potential without giving them a chance, one never knows, suddenly he’s a big hit and plays for Newcastle. Griffiths has shown great potential for Hibs and deserves a chance.
The Express and Star say that Nouble was a Terry Connor signing so that may explain why he’s gone to Ipswich. Probably more potential than Blake and much cheaper. I expect Moxey will want top prices for our used players, although they have depreciated a lot since their better days.
I think you both call this right.
Guy seemed lively and knew where the net was so that gave him a head start.
I thing you are bang on why we have so many players, no one wanted them at Moxeys prices.
I dod think Deano might just get Doyle going again though, for me he is still in the funk MM caused when he had him running up front by himself for so long.
I am taking hope from Deans comments about what he would be asking for example his right back to do. I am hoping that was a definte shot at our left back that he did not want to make to obvious.
We all know that some of our players will come alive when they move and are coached and motivated properly Dean wont get all the culling right but as long as he gets 50% plus and includes Ward i will be happy,
Come on me babies indeed.
In Turkey. Pissed but loving belly dancers & taxi (limmo of course :)) driver who supports Galatisary & knows all about ‘famous Wolves’ who’ve just sacked manager.
Humbling really it is!
I see Morgan claims he always said it cud be 10 yrs til we continued redevelopment of stadium.
When/where did he say that? Guess its gonna be 10 yrs til I renew my season ticket then Steve.
#lyingscousetwat # hadenough
It will be wonderful to be proven wrong but I reckon we’ve got maximum of 21 points in us until the end of the season, if were lucky. Anyone else like to make a forecast?
PS They needed to sack players not the manager/coaches.
21 plus the 31 we’ve got so far makes for a very poor total. 52 points would have put us in 18th place in last year’s championship. At least that will be six places above the position achieved by Saunders last year.
As a lifelong Wolves fan i am always in for the ride and i am sharing in the current feel good factor. Also like Dean Saunders his bubbly character may help pick us up.
I have a feeling though that some of Steve Morgan’s comments indicate a downscaling of his ambtions for the club and his priority now is to have the ego trip of owning a football club without spending any of his personal fortune.
Did anybody see this piece in the mirror? Steve Morgan saying the whole problem goes back to Curbishley turning us down?
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/wolves-chief-steve-morgan-blames-1524653
Just read it .. it’s amazing how people get paid to take responsibility .. and yet when the crunch comes it’s somebody elses fault.
And Moxey’s comment that the candidates left after Curbishley turned down the job weren’t of a high standard.
Says a lot about his judgement when he appointed CONNOR !!
IT’S TYPICAL OF THE TWO MORONS AT THE TOP OF THIS CLUB. MORGAN AND MOXEY
Wonder who was responsible for selling Nouble – don’t think DS had the cahnce to see him. JM again??
And that is exactly where the two Ms just dont get it.
it is noit that he turned us down, it is why he turned them down that was and still is the problem.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but it just occurred to me how much Dean Saunders looks like Robert De Niro….
OH NO
Wolves………………………..the movie!
Short, tragic, lacking in any action, and done on the cheap.
Wolves have gone backwards with this appointment. He’s simply MM without the experience.
Plays 442 – Check
Plays long ball and wing play – Check
Champions work rate and putting a shift in over skill and technical nous – Check
Funny in interviews – Check
Builds a rapport with the players – Check
None of that namby pamby zonal marking or possession football – Check
Experience of taking teams out of this division – Check (only the wrong way but getting a manager with promotion experience would have cost money and promises of a transfer kitty)
Not saying that this is a bad thing and that it won’t be successful at this level, but I think were all agree that if we have ambitions of breaking back into the premier league and more importantly staying there, we need to go more continental in our style.
The players should have gone in January not Stale. If he had to go O’Driscoll was a better appointment to change the club to the passing way.
Aren’t those attributes exactly what got us into the Premiership in the first place?
He did mention that he wants us to play football first, but at least has the sense to know that at this level you often need to grind out results….which we haven’t been doing.
I’m feeling pretty optimistic about our playoff chances this season. Whatever you think of the players and staff, they really are capable of achieving at least that.
I’m 100% behind Dean, as I’m sure we all will be. I’m so looking forward to seeing how the team responds on Friday. Not expecting a great performance, but if we don’t lose against a team that’s also in the sh*t then we’re certainly going in the right direction.
UTW
I’m not saying that I don’t think that he will be effective, but if we wanted those tactics why not stick with Mick in the first place. When Stale was appointed it was made clear that the club understood the failing of Mick’s era the inability to keep hold of the ball, inability of our defence to react to pace: POMO football was dead time for possession.
Following that then why return to that philosophy when we know it is going to be ineffective in the long term? Why stick by unprofessional extremely limited players? What happens to the signings made for Stale’s style if they can’t adapt to punt it football? Do we sack Deano after six months and get yet another change in philosophy?
I can’t be the only one that thinks that this decision has as much to do with recent results, as it does with SS putting in his list of transfer targets for January?
I wish Deano all the best (he’s going to need it with the shower we have) but can’t help feeling that we missed an opportunity with SS.
I think you may be right. It was to be a complete change in style. The problem was that Staale inherited a large squad of players, many of which he didn’t want. Until he brought in his own players I think it was always going to be difficult to judge him. SM said something about it taking 10(????? I may have that wrong) years so it seemed odd to sack Staale after 6 months with Micks squad and a host of injuries and the Jan window just opening.
Many think the problem was that these players couldn’t or wouldn’t play Staales way. I feel certain DS will get more short term success with a more direct style but as you point out – will that style stand us in good stead in the prem, should we get there.
Anyway, Staale has gone and we’ll all give Dean our support.
The sad think is we will never know if he was the man or not. He clearly expected more time and opportunities to install his methods and i think was stunned he didnt get it. On the other hand he should also have realized that he also had to buy himself with some time (results).
Dumbest thing though from M& M was giving him the same tools and war chest (ah ah) and expecting cultural revolution in 6 months.
Yes, spot on NY.
I could not agree more with your comments. Surely if the two M’s could see we had to change our style to become successful over the long term then they had to be prepared with the short term pain. Did Moxey not say it may need to get worse before it gets better? How could you see he had players not prepared to even bother to try his methods and not at least back your man to get these self-serving wankers out and bring in quality footballers before judging him?
My question to the two M’s would be was Stale made aware he was being judged over the short term or was he working under the belief that he had the backing to completely change the hole ethos of our club?
Obviously as with everyone I’m hoping Dean gets us back to winning ways starting from tomorrow, but I’ve got an empty feeling in my gut that we’ve just missed out on a great opportunity to move the hole club forward.
I wouldn’t disagree with your assessment that Saunders is simply MM without the experience. Personally, I’d prefer that to Solbakken, who was simply Hoddle without the hair.
Don’t agree with you regarding Stale and Hoddle but had to like it anyway as that comment was pure wit!!
This seemed like a pertinent quote, from Huw Jenkins (Swansea chairman), with respect to running a football club:
‘The most important thing: you have to have a clear vision of what you are doing.’
Does Moxey, does Morgan?
As I understand it from this article, Swansea were taken to the edge of extinction by Tony Petty, who bought the club for a token fee.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/jan/08/swansea-city-different-route-league-cup?CMP=twt_gu
Swansea nearly went out of the leagues in 2003 but look where they are now and they’ve got there and stayed there by playing football and keeping faith in their managers. With the greatest respect to Swansea I feel we have the potential to be a bigger club were it not for M&M. To answer your question, I don’t think they have a clue what they are doing and 4 managers, and a load of contradictions, in under a year tend to support that claim.
I will sugar coat my comments as usual.
I think the team will contain most of the usual culprits, and if we do NOT win against Blackburn they should all be taken outside the North Bank, I refuse to call it anything else, and be publicly flogged. Then fired.
We loyal fans always want the team to win, anyway they can.
Let us see if the “players” feel the same way. It will be an interesting game, watching the responses to change on those morons.
They couldn’t or wouldn’t change for Stale, wonder if they will for Saunders.
And, as ever, a mighty FO to our poorer neighbors down at sandwell crem!!
I didnt know the North Bank had any other name?!!!??!!
A White Elephant?
Oh, forgot.
Thomas, can you change the picture of Blobby at the top of the page, PLEEEEZ!!!!
I think Thomas has got a nice one of Mr Ward that he can put up.
A rear view of him, as he exits The Mol, kit in one hand, pink slip in other???
(Pink Slip is not a girly thing, it is the US version of getting your cards)
Clive sounds like DOOGooder is on the mend!
Your potion has worked!
A bit better thanks.
Still a long way to go though. I quite like being looked after by Nurse DOOGooder.
Quote from Deån Saunders:-
“Players need to stop looking at themselves, their hairstyles, their tattoos, their cars. It’s about the football. I’m on a personal mission to be the best I can and my players have to be of the same mind set.”
Oh! Yes! Oh! Yes!
I bet there is nothing wrong with you now, you just want to keep knocking back the spiced rum, or brandy, or anything alcoholic you can get your hands on!!
You Bounder!
Are you insinuating that my wife is an alcoholic?
OK just seeing the players comments and drivel. Best thing is for them to say nowt and let their actions speak for them.
NY-another load of meaningless clap-trap.
on the field-action and goals in that order!
Stan Cullis was made manager of our great Club at 31 with no managerial experience whatsoever, and I’m old enough to remember he was not a popular choice, so come on you TRUE Wolves fans get behind Deano .
Got that one right Alf! They think they are stars and their opinion matters. You earn that right.
Good point graziano, and i for one was broken hearted when he was treated so badly and fired. He deserved so much better.
im with you on this appointment pizza…i have held back on commenting as i want to give him a chance to see if he will push the club forward..weve tried the big names and got nowhere so who knows what a young hungry manager can do? i know hes not the choice of a lot of the pepes on this blog but we cant preguess how it will unfold until it does. he comes across as a no nonsense bloke and its exactly what the players need. it got somehow very slack under stalingrad and it showed on the pitch . lets wait and see what comes forth from the darkness surrounding the club ; a ray of light maybe?
If i had one question to ask morgan and moxey it would be :- if we have a squad of fifty players (4 full football teams) Why do we not have a proper left back and then someone challenging/ cover for the left back position?
An excellent question how bad can the reserve and U21 LB be????
I can only think they had a printing error and had 150 team sheets printed with Ward at LB and Moxey wont throw them away.
There is no need for 150 teamsheets, only 1, as no matter how many we lose by, or how badly individuals play, they have still been in the team. As you say, how shit must be the other 35 professional players. I really hope saunders drops players who play shit, and give others a chance. Competition is good, not bad
like I said previously, what we now have as a playing staff are McCarthys’ Plodders. We know how good they are by the number of managers enquiring about them.’Nuff said.
With a huge squad and Nouble just gone to Ipswich…. the manager thinks we might need a striker!! Not any new defenders then ?
No we got Ward!
Well, we will see soon how Dean Saunders pans out, starting Friday.
The players should speak with their feet and shut their mouths up.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Ståle’s signings, who Saunders keeps and who goes.
Myself, I’d get rid of the back four except Johnson. Also get rid of Henry & SEB.
Griffiths will go to Hibs I think.
Was running through some of our previous managers in my mind.
Who remembers John Barnwell, think he lost an eye in a car accident & his assistant took over. Always thought that was a bad blow for Wolves.
Also remember when Peter Shirtliff had a go? – Thought he was quite good.
However Dean Saunders is unprecedented as a striker/manager at Molineux, and hence nominated as favourite candidate for Clive’s presitgious Manager of the Year award!
Barnwell was a huge blow, I always thought. I didnt much like the guy but McGarry certainly got results.
I am totally behind Deano like what he says and somewhere ther has to be another Fergie. I just hope the board does not crap on him.
Colin Lee was a striker, as was Terry Connor. Mark McGhee was a striker as well, but mostly in Scotland as I recall.
But none of them was ever as good as Deano, so I wont quibble too much.
Just a thought, how many of the anti Steve Morgan brigade supported Wolves through the dark days of the Bhatti brothers early 1982 ?? 3000 gates north bank derelict, waterloo road stand derelict and burnt out couldn’t pay the milk bill bottom of Div. 4 and bankrupt. I remember standing on the south bank with my then 12year old son and being hammerd by Rochdale feeling sick to the pit of my stomach and preying for a saviour like Steve Morgan . If you can’t remember those days JUST BE GLAD and support our team through good and bad days like I’ve done for 65 years. COME ON YOU WOLVES.
Another good point. I supported them as a kid from 1950s thick and thin. I know everyone will be behind Deano. I just hope he kicks some players arses. As someone said competition is good and play crap you expect it. playing Football, Badminton, Table Tennis and Pub Sports its the way it works. Lowest results you are out the team for a week or two.
SSs big mistake was sticking with the same and blaming injuries, he should have put reserves in thats what they are for.
Anyone remeber the home game against Man U late 60s when Doog was injured and we had to play Buckley instead we were all doom and gloom, if i remeber correctly he scored on 90 seconds. Thats what reserves will do.
And lets al remember that famous league cup final and No1 goalie Phil Parkes was injured. That day we had to play an inexperienced novice called Gary Pierce. the rest is history.
As i always say Out of Darkness………….
I can remember them days.Couldn’t afford a season ticket then. Our kid couldn’t make it to the Boxing day game and gave me his ticket.0-0 draw against Cambridge United.I thought back to the night I stood on the North Bank and watched Baileys’ Wolves stop Leeds from doin’ the double.
I was right there with you.
Who can forget the South Bank filled with 25,000 Leeds fans, convinced we were gonna get turned over, plus the Derby fans cheering for us.
Incredible night, and Bernard Shaw’s deliberate handball in the penalty area, seen by 50,000, but not the ref or the linesman.
One of THE nights in my memory bank of Wolves performances, up there with stuffing The Arsenal 5 – 1.
Clive,
I can remember both of those games, we were losing 0 1 against ARSENAL at H T we put 5 past them in the second half, HAPPY HAPPY DAYS.
Yes indeed!
Well worth missing Christmas shopping that day, in spite of the snow.
My Dad bought our first colour tv that morning, and match of the day was the first programme I watched that night, Wolves 5 Arsenal 1, with Waggy’s screamer not only winning goal of the month, but also goal of the season.
And all 5 Wolves goals into the North Bank end.
You can still find the goals on u tube, November 1971
Happy days indeed!
the infamous Leeds games was one of the first ever games I seem to remember, that and Juventus. My Dad and Uncle took me & my cousin. We stood in the old enclosures along side the dug outs. Great night of football!!
I still blame those nights for the heartache I have had through this passionate love affair!!!
I can remember those days too. The ground is better now but the team isn’t. It also appears that Morgan is taking money out of the club not putting it in. In that sense he is like the Bhatti brothers.
My fear is that we are going there again and this time there is no Graham Turner and no Steve Bull.
It feels like history repeating itself : down up down down down and almost out. For Docherty read Solbakken. For Chapman read Saunders. To complete picture we get Graham Turner back in the McGarry reprise role…. and I’d rather have Turner than Saunders right now !
The finances may appear Ok now but 2 more relegations and we join Porstmouth.
Who would get the wooden spoon as worst manager of the year
It would have to have three handles on it!!!
Terry Conner is the worst manager ever employed in Professional Football
Has any other club ever had 4 permament managers in 10 months. I think we could have made history.
graziano,
I remember those dark days,The saviors of Wolves were John Bird,Leader of Wolverhamton Council,Jack Harris,The council tax payers of Wolverhampton,The Gallagher Brothers,Steve Bull And Graham Turner.I think Sir Jack came in to take us further forward when we were in the old 2nd division.
To compare Morgan who bought a profitable club for a pittance is a disgrace to the memories of what these people did.
Hancocks53, I agree with your comments about John Bird, jack Harris, The Gallagers Etc I fact I was a working colleague of John Bird at H M HOBSONS Ltd so i know just how hard john worked on saving Wolves on a day by day basis, my remark about Steve Morgan was because I think he is getting a lot of agro , I was comparing him to the infamous Bhatti’s
Don’t watch Wolves View on Birmingham Mail.
It is dull and playing catch up with as much charisma as a pineapple.
Hi Graziana, Great Wolves man John Bird,I understand youy comments,We are obviously from the same era so have some great memories as well as the bad ones. First saw Jonny Hancocks play in 1953 thus my nickname. We won the League in 53/54.Hope Morgan can up his game so the current generation of Wolves fans can pass on the good memomies to their families that we have had from fifties etc.
Good health and good luck to you
hancocks53
Thanks for your comments and good wishes I wish you the same. Keep supporting Wolves, I’m hoping for better days soon. Incidentally I saw my first Wolves in 1946. and I will be taking my seat on Friday, good luck.
Graziano, get there early and take yer boots, you might get a game!!
1946 eh?
I bet you even remember the Germans who bombed our chip shop.
Were you standing in the Cowshed, next to DOOGooder back then???
Enjoy the game, wish I could be there with you.
Was it Major Frank Buckley the manager then?
I remember reading once how he gave the players methedrine, in the dressing room, before games.
Wouldn’t go down very well these days….
Though today’s players could do with a shot of speed…
That sounds like a lot of old monkey balls to me…….
Certainly remember reading it in a book about him published in the early sixties.
Robin you are absolutely correct.
I was making reference to the fact that players were injected with monkey testicles. Sorry if my joke was a bit obscure.

Ok, Geordiewolf, got it!
Interesting, I guess in those days, no dope investigating bodies!
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m feeling really nervous about tomorrow. Excited too. But really, really, nervous.
There’s no need to be nervous. This lot couldn’t beat 11 dustbins so unless Blackburn gift us a goal like Blouse, the result is inevitable.
That’s all saying we don’t sign Super Jason Scotland in time for Kick-Off!
It hurts to even joke about that. I instantly regret it.
Hi robin,
No it wasn’t the Major, It was Ted Vizard who had just taken over from the Major at the start of the1946/47 season and it’s him that was responsible for signing most of the Wolves stars of the early 50’s Williams , Hancock ECT, he played for Bolton and was a Welsh International !! hang on , Welsh international that rings a bell. 🙂
Ok Ted Vizard, but Frank Buckley was quite a disciplinarian I think.
Let’s hope our latest Welsh connection, gets off to a winning start!
I knew Tony Daley would be safe. Lots more injuries to come then.
pferdepferde your view of the situation is very funny!
I wonder who saunders is on about when he said the players need to eat properly and not keep going to mcdonalds.
SEB’s got a loyalty card for McD. Whereas Johnson is Ronald Macdonald.
My nephew works McDonald’s and say tongo dumbia always comes in!
Amazing if true about doumbia and mcdonalds. He is suffering from fatigue, cant run for 90mins, we send him back for a weeks holiday to france, just after we had signed him for £3m, and he eats mcdonalds food on a regular basis. Maybe fast shit food is causing his fatigue, and surelt his diet would be the first thing tony daley would be assessing. The mind boggles as to what is going on behind the scenes at our club. No wonder we are 18th in championship.
As they say there is no smoke without fire and I think DS was having a mild pop at our overall conditioning levels. I like what he says, sounds very sensible bloke and seems to get his points over without offence.
If the McDs stuff is true then the guy aint going to be a pro athlete for long its up to him.
Now lets get the team playing together score some goals and keep em out the other end. I do agree about the squad trimming I have oftne wondered how some of the guys could get motivated especially when they see some of our fixtures.

It’s true, I always thought RoJo was a daft burger.
