Never let it be said that Steve Morgan doesn’t learn his lessons.

Less than a year after orchestrating the most bizarre, drawn-out search for a manager ever recorded, he’s only gone and perfected the tablecloth trick.
No sooner had Ståle Solbakken been shown (or texted) the door, good old Steve was on the blower to Donny, teeing up Dean Saunders as our next boss.
Whether you agree with the appointment or not, we should all acknowledge decisive action.
We’ve been calling for it on this very blog for weeks and in this respect, he’s delivered.
However, BBC Sport’s Pat Murphy, who I’ve grown to like a great deal for his honest and straightforward appraisal about the goings on at Molineux, isn’t convinced by the latest developments.
He took to his Twitter account last night to say:
“New Wolves manager set to be Dean Saunders of Doncaster. Compensation issues being discussed tonight.
“Believe SS was toast whatever happened at Luton. Never found the dressing-room to lose.
“Why Sean O’D never got the gig amazes. Mind you, he never played for Liverpool.
“Steve Morgan’s decision-making from Feb13th last year has been poor. Wonder if we’ll get the chance to put that to him Monday or will Jez Moxey be wheeled out again with those perennially safe pair of hands?”
Murphy is bang on that Morgan has plenty of questions to answer and that hiding behind Molineux’s human force field won’t appease the majority of fans.
As for Dean Saunders himself, I’ll refrain from comment until his arrival is confirmed.
Just like Steve Morgan, I’ve learnt my lessons from previous experience.

Agreed – no pussy-footing around this time! Pat Murphy’s tweets were very interesting though – never found the dressing room to lose? No wonder the players were so damned listless…
Not so fast (perhaps). From memory M+M approached Curbishley the same day (or day after) they sacked Mick. Morgan even came home from his skiing holiday, the poor soul.
But, as we know, it fell through, (they made a second approach to Curbs about 2 weeks later, which also fell through.)
So the ‘rapid response’ now might just end up being Chapter 1 of another long series of a clown-like manoeuvres.
[And, yes, Sean O’Driscoll for me.]
I’d be shocked if Saunders wasn’t appointed.
A chairman won’t bother approaching another club unless they get a clear indication the manager in question wants the gig. He’ll have been sounded out.
So if Saunders wants it and Morgan wants him, it seems implausible that it won’t go ahead.
Curbs was a different situation. He was exploring his options. I think Saunders is desperate for the chance. As someone else said below, he doesn’t have the CV to support a claim for this post, so not surprising he’s jumping at the opportunity to climb the ladder ahead of time.
We’ll see soon enough (or, maybe not).
Nothing would shock me any more.
All the points would normally apply……
But this is WOLVES!!!
Isn’t “ahead of time” going a little over the top? Saunders is already 48. Mind you, he’s only ever managed Wrexham and Doncaster Rovers, so you’re right about his lack of CV and his probable desire to snatch at this rather belated chance. Will this turn Saunders into Brendan Rodgers II or Wolves into Wrexham II?
I agree Thomas and will be surprised if Saunders is not here for Friday’s game.
In fact think he was already lined up as a replacement.
Personally I find it an interesting appointment.
Saunders was a no nonsense, good striker at Liverpool and I think he and Morgan go back quite a way.
This might mean Moxey’s influence will diminish.
I can see Saunders sorting the dressing room out sharpish as he was a terrier like character.
The ball is firmly in Morgan’s court.
If it is Saunders get him in quick and put your money where your mouth is and back him with a January transfer fund.
As long as he doesn’t spend it all on Doncaster players…
The Rovers statement says: “The board have a strategy for a situation such as this and have a ‘Plan B’ in place.” Wow! They’re way ahead of Wolves’ board!
While the two M’s are ruining the club the manager will be cheap and he will have to agree to buying players on the cheap that’s why Saunders has got the gig he won’t make big demands if any will doo as he’s told and if he’s successfull he get rewarded if not hell get fired that’s why he’s on a 1 year rolling contract Morgans learnt a lesson from the McCarthy, Stale debacle and that’s don’t give out long contracts because you have to honour them even when you sack a manager. Nothing going to change while the two M’s are in charge. If only the owners could be sacked like the manager.
Well, SS inherited a dispirited lot, several of whom were set to abandon ship; what hope did he have?
Having read Dean Saunders biography on Wikipedia and been for a long hard walk in the forest I’ve decide that he is, amazingly enough, just the man for the situation we are now in. The players will want to show that they’re not (quite) as bad as they’ve been performing, and we’ll beat Blackburn. Maybe.
But we still need to recruit new blood, and get rid of the usual suspects.
Quick decisions are not neccessarily the correct ones. Time will tell I guess.
Yes. I’m pretty sure Stale would have managed to fix things IF he’d made the right calls in the transfer market. The biggest problem was the fullbacks and the centre forwards.
Poyet is my favorite. I don’t know enough about Saunders to give him thumbs up or down. We need to get in a new manager damn fast so he can bring in new players. Saunders has been very efficient in his manager career on the transfer market so far, according to wikipedia.
Just read on the Barnsley news that they are confident of getting O’Driscoll .
Apparently he is ruled out of the Wolves job as he doesn’t like Moxey !!
What’s Jezz ever done to upset anyone ……
Where’d you hear he doesn’t like Moxey? No offence but that’s a rumour quite a few would be more than happy to believe…
Barnsley-mad . co.uk , or news now wolves link .
Truthfully , couldn’t make it up …
Your right
http://www.barnsley-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/wolves_look_to_snatch_saunders_777688/index.shtml
Seems Like Odriscolls family have pre warned him about the clowns ruining the club..
The phrase “comedy gold” shall hence forth be known as “comedy old gold and black”…..thanks Mr Morgan!
Fool’s Gold also comes to mind ……. thanks Mx2
If Saunders is appointed, the only really is because he is Morgan’s mate. His CV is nowhere near good enough to be our manager, I bet he can’t believe his luck.
We need to face facts. Our owner is no better than the Venky’s or the Al Hasawi’s.
At least they haven’t pretty much stolen land from the city to make millions selling houses
I agree! He’s unproven in the higher divisions. An outsider which might or might not manage to turn the ship around. He’s an exciting choice though.
i think this will be a good appointment. he’s worked with kevin thelwell and stuart webber before hence the 2 appointments. put the 2 together and it seems to translate that they were looking for Saunders weeks ago
I agree that there’s a 50-50 chance Saunders can turn things around . . . but “exciting”?! Less exciting than Solbakken, me thinks. As for me, I would have found it more exciting if the choice had been Curley, Psycho Downing or Mark Venus.
Even more exciting if it had been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Roberto Di Matteo, Gareth Southgate or Gary McAllister.
Di matteo is the ultimate alternative. Sign up Di matteo N*W
Surprised Murphy referred to our CEO’s ‘safe pair of hands’ when Moxey has repeatedly made gaffe after gaffe.
‘Wont do an Albion’, ‘Not a job for a novice’ & ‘League position directly correlates to money spent’ are just a few that spring to mind.
Now he will need to explain away his moral high ground stance when trying (&failing) to justify having no successor to MM & the contradiction of a swift appointment now.
Which philosophy was right Jez? They sure as hell cant both be!
And for all these catastrophic failings he gets paid £1m+ a year!!!
For Gods sake Morgan wake up! Get shut of this miserable oaf once and for all!
Spot on scooped. So many questions for the slick haired weasel to answer. Guess we just need to hope someone has the balls to ask him.
Seems ironic to me that the manager of another Yorkshire club who is now second in the championship ,Hull, WAS DEEMED NOT GOOD ENOUGH. by the owner—–Yet another bad decision !!!!!!
As ever .. nailed on facts. The more you look at it the more incompetent, lying, misleading fraudster gets found out. SM get rid of the buffoon before he has any more cock up influence at the mol.
Another cheep option no ambition again wait till next season in division one that will do it, the problem is up stairs at wolves they have got no true love for the club only money.
http://www.vargas12.com/2013/01/solbakken-sparket-kevin-thelwell-tar-over-wolves/
I am so sorry for Solbakken, that i did not get the canche to show him self at Wolves. Sacking him on the phone and already before the first window closed. Mr Morgan is a shame and a stupid man. Just as mr Abramovich at Chelsea.
You can´t treat people like that.
Some of the Wolves players Like Berra, Foley, Ward and Henry is a disaster for Wolves. They are the reason for three managers beeing sacked. I hope they are realy proud of them selvs.
Any new manager should sack the lot of them, and never ever give the lacy bunch the chance to wear a old gold shirt again. Many of the Wolves players is great shame for the club.
One must be able to require some effort from well-paid players!
Very well said !! In any language the frustration and hurt comes through .
Out of darkness ….
Many of the players have been together for a long time. Get rid of 50% of the players we have today. Not very impressed by the M’s. Two more transfer windows and some money to spend Staale would have turned this around. M and M are business men, and act in that way. Not in longlife marriage with wolves like myshelf. ( lol)
somebody please correct me ?
saunders took doncaster over sept 11 and had a full 8/9 of the 10 month season and took doncaster down yet driscoll who had kept them up for 4/5 seasons and in his penultimate season had a poor end AS THEY WERE SITTING NICELY MID CHAMPIONSHIP I.E EXCELLENT FOR A SMALL CLUB and then a poor start i.e just 1 month in to last season and was sacked.
DEAN SAUNDERS IS A MISTAKE HOW ON EARTH HE CAN BE CONSIDERED ABOVE OWEN COYLE IS BEYOND BELIEF AS BOLTON WERE SUFFERING FROM SEVERE FINANCIAL WOES,
ANTI BRUCE WORKED BEFORE AND I’M NOT CASTING JUDGEMENT ON SAUNDERS FOR THE RECORD BUT WE NEED TO WAKE UP AND SERIOUSLY LET THE BOARD KNOW WE WANT COYLE IF HE’S INTERESTED AND OF COURSE I’D BE HAPPY TO SEE DRISCOLL ALSO
Coyle has the best CV, without no doubt. His philosophy isn’t so far away from McCarthy’s either, which would be an advantage in short term.
Coyle, absolutely YES. Saunders, absolutely NO!
Saunders – Mr Morgan what are you aspirations for this club
Morgan – we don’t want to be a you yo club and want to be where this club belongs.
Saunders – so do we have a war chest to achieve this objective as we have seen the strong nucleus of this team struggle to play in old gold n black and need to move address.
Morgan – check please.
this time last year wed have gone mental at the mention of saunders name…the liverpool connection seems the worry to me. itd be easy to pick from what you know whilst disregarding the others out there. time will tell but if hes the man we MUST get behind him and give him time…who knows he may just be a brilliant appointment..WTID Still
Transcript of a telephone call between Jez Moxey and Steve Morgan.
SM. That you Jezz? We just got dumped out of the cup by Luton!
JM. What cup’s that then? I thought we had the weekend off.
SM. Yes, So did the players. I think it’s pretty serious now, Luton are a few places below us in the league. By the way, what’s that dinging noise?
JM. Oh that’s the microwave – my pie’s done. Can we talk while I eat it?
SM. No, I’ve had to stop counting my money to make this phone call so give your fat stomach a rest. I think we’re going to have to sack Ståle. The fans are starting to get restless.
JM. Fans? Oh! Yes, I remember. They’re the people that pay my bonus. Have you got anybody in mind? What’s Terry O’Connor doing?
SM. No, we tried that. He’s gone already. I tell you what though, I’ve got a mate with a proven track record. He’s already taken a team down from this league so he knows the ropes.
JM. Sounds good to me – who is it?
SM. Dean Saunders.
JM. ………………………….Dean who!?
SM. Saunders. An ex Liverpool mate. He’ll do it and he’s cheap!
JM. That settles it. Get him in.
SM. There’s only one problem. I don’t know if the fans will take it. They might want someone like Sean O’Driscoll – Available, lives locally, big Wolves fan, parents are season ticket holders…. Oh and a damn good coach too.
JM. Yes, but what’s he got going for him?
SM. I’ve got an idea. We get Saunders in, put a little circle over the ‘a’ in his christian name, shave his head and perhaps no one will notice the difference.
JM. Worth a try – Deån Saunders it is then. Must go now, my pie’s getting cold.
That really made me laugh
Yeah, me too—and I needed that laugh! I really, really did!;)
Worst thing is We are having a good laugh at it, and it’s probably very close to the truth…
Just what I thought – feared …truth is though , what sort of pies ??
That’s a brill post . I have to say I admire your ability to still have a sense of humour, has an albion fan I have enjoyed the wolves demise since we beat you 1-5 but even I got to the stage where I started to think that the “clowns” running your club were no longer funny and it was getting beyond a joke. Now they make this appointment. I can’t believe a guy with the business nous to make so much money can be capable of making such a series of shambolic decisions, and it looks like he’s done it again. Have to say fair play to your fans for the level of support the club receives.
Thanks albion fan.
Everybody else is laughing at us so we might just as well have a giggle.
Unfortunately that’s all we can do.
Just beware!
You’re pretty near to Wolverhampton and, just like a similar obnoxious bug that makes you want to vomit, Moxeyitis might be catching.
Just thinking how low our expectations have fallen. The two names cropping up to manage our great club are o’driscoll and saunders. Between them, they have managed doncaster, wrexham, notts forest. Is wolves now viewed in the same bracket as the above clubs? How moxey is keeping his job overseeing the day to day running of such a misfunctioning organisation defies belief. For me, the manager is the most important position within a football club. If a club does well on the pitch, everything else falls into place. Surely, moron, you realise this. The problem moron has is good experienced english managers expect a decent wage, and then a transfer budget-two things he is not willing to give. Gonna see more of moxey the slimy slug in days to come-unfortunately
Is this a joke?
Sorry folks, it appears that if we can’t beat them we’re gonna have to join ’em.
So, with that in mind I’m turning up to Saunders’ first Wolves game in shell suit, curly wig and fake moustache…..ey ey ey!
Calm down, calm down…dey do dat der don’t dey?
*sob*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei7-pzNGU9I&feature=player_embedded
It’d be even funnier if it wasn’t so close to the truth….!
absolute class – free pie and pint at the blackburn game
Can Mr Morgan explain why he wants to decimate Wolves football club. he must have a deep hatred of all things not connected with Liverpool FC. Had him and toady Moxey used their brains last year year Wolves might still be in the premier league.
I wonder if they want Wolves to go out of business, Molineux would be very valuable as a housing estate.
One thin is sure, Dean Saunders will be no more successful than Terry Connor, under Morgan we have plumbed the depths, we’re the Midlands laughing stock now, thanks Morgan and Moxey.
poll for new manager:
s odriscill 67%
billy the fish 12%
shaun the sheep 10%
muffin the mule 5%
dave jones 3%
dean saunders 3%
4 managers that M & M wanted in less than a year, and we are looking into the abyss of league 1.
You couldn’t script the film better!
Molineux The temple of Doom
Why aren’t the posters here able to support the team no matter who is brought in as manager?
They’d all prefer to be moaning minnies and be able to say “told you so” after every defeat when the new manager is in place I suppose. I just don’t understand these people. I don’t remember a popular campaign in favour of Steve Bruce when MM went and yet see where Hull are in the league.
Assuming Saunders is appointed they’ll get more satisfaction from every defeat than they will from victories. If it is Saunders then, like any other new manager, he may or may not be successful. But let’s not make his job even harder by cynically criticising him and his appointment before it’s even made.
What kind of support is that?
Agree Kevin….
If it is Saunders give him a chance, he might turn out to brilliant.
I agree too! Anyone with the Moxey albatross hanging round his neck has a virtually impossible job. Let’s give Saunders our full support for half a season to help Dean try to overcome that handicap.
It’s the kind of support who wanted investment in the team, not the ground, when we were trying to establish ourselves in the Premiership.
It’s the kind of support that begged for an experienced manager to replace Mick McCarthy.
It’s the kind of support that wanted to keep our best players so we might have a chance of returning to the Prem at the first attempt.
It’s the kind of support that, when appointed, wanted to see SS backed with some decent cash to spend from the mythical ‘War Chest’.
It’s the kind of support who are fed up with doing everything on the cheap.
It’s the kind of support that’s been behind the club for 40+ years in some cases.
I could go on…..
Agree 100%. We all want what is best for Wolves. Its just that we don’t neccessarily agree that Saunders is the right man for the job.
The main things he has going for him is that he will be cheap and unlikely to turn the job down when offered it. This will avoid the embarrassment of 11 months ago when so many more competent managers turned us down. Let’s not forget he took Doncaster down from this league last year.
I’m also totally p*ss*d off with the attitude of the players who did SS no favours at all.
Kevin – Everybody makes mistakes, but the compounding of serious errors and lack of sound judgement by those at the ‘top’ of the club are creating a vicious downward spiral.
True, you can never please everybody but I don’t think posters here enjoy moaning – rather they would prefer to see a healthy FOOTBALL club where everybody is selflessly pulling in the same direction (which has clearly not been the case for a considerable time).
I sense there are a lot of long-term passionate supporters here who are greatly worried and saddened by the present debacle.
Dean Saunders, or any other victim, will have to defy gravity to prevent a total freefall.
It is BECAUSE we support the team so passionately that we are on here bitchin’ and moanin’.
A lot of us have spent untold thousands, over many, many years, supporting this club, and will do until we die, and we have a right to voice our objections and disgust at what we perceive to be the totlly inept and almost criminal way the club is being run.
When we were doing well, there were far fewr moans and groans on here, but understandably while we are doing crap, the club is gonna get grief from us.
If we didnt give a shit, we would be off doing other exciting things, like watching paint dry.
And, a complete blog from me without a swear word, but only coz its Sunday!!
FOwb
its an unknown having saunders in but cant be worse than stalle..just got to be given time. a couple of good results and peace will return……hopefully
I’d ask the Question WHY are the 2 people running our club not supporting it..
Kevin at the last home games, if I remember correctly, apart from questioning a substitution by the manager, the 28000 or so were supporting their team, that’s how I heard it.
Then after the game ended we voiced our disapproval to the players and management.
Now correct me if Im wrong, that is how supporters should be. Back the team when needed but certainly not roll over and have their tummies tickled when we’re being shafted.
So I repeat, a lot of that playing staff need to take a good look at themselves, because they have been well below par and have openly admitted it!
Stop knocking the fans!
Agree with you I said Bruce when Mick went but heard negative comments about him both at the ground & on this blog.
Even reported that the fans stopped the board getting him in. Thats the board being weak, and only rumour. Surely they would have done their homework on him anyway.
I just want to support whoever comes in, and hope this time it goes better. Feel sad for Solbakken in a way, he did seem honest & open but clearly his style & that of his coaches did not wash with the players.
These latter do not come out of this smelling of roses, and they sure as damm well better get behind the new Manager now or they’ll be following Solbakken out the door.
yES GIVE HIM A CHANCE. HE’S VASTLY EXPERIENCED IN LOTS OF DIVISIONS,IS A MAN’S MAN, ACTUALLY SPEAKS CLEAR ENGLISH, IS A FIERY CHARACTER, WILL NOT PUT WITH NONSENSE, KNOWS WHO’S CRAP ALREADY I EXPECT, KNOWS THE GOOD P0LAYERS AROUND, HAS PLAYED INTERNATIONALLY. OK MORGAN’S GOT AS MUCH CHARISMA AS A CRISP – EVEN LESS- HAVING JUST EATEN A PACXKET… BUT WE ARE ALL SUPPORTERS, HAVE BEEN FOR YEARS, LET’S SUPPORT,EH…
we aint in a position to demand the best-just look at the managers that promised so much but delivered so little! i think theres more to it than just getting a great manager in place…the chemistry has to be there and we need good scouts and youth set up too thats where the future lies-with the youth….patience and support are what are needed ..WTID
I can’t believe that no one has sugested we go for Ken Dodd, you don’t get much more scouse that Doddy and I can easily give him suggestions of where he could shove his tickling stick.
(Morgan & Moxey would not be able to sit down for a week)
Do not know much about Saunders other than his playing career, he might take his chance and be a good manager.
Out of all of this cannot see what Morgans and Moxeys ambitions are, they claim to want to see Wolves as a premiership force but it appeaars to be talking the talk and no walking the walk – NO INTENT, NO AMBITION, NO BIG HITTER AS A MANAGER.
Saunders interview.
How much are you paying?
Length of contract?
Where is the War Chest?
These are the players I want to sign?
Door closes…Next one please…..
Who is going to get The Pantomine Horse to open the safe.
Safecrackers are sometimes hard to find…Especially those who can manage a football
team successfully.
If Dean can get beyond the above, DON’T make Johnson the Captain,
get your own.
Hope I am wrong but Saunders will not work out, its a choice being driven by economics and doing what your told. Sorry but i will say it now.
before anyone shouts yes course i will support him everyone deserves a chance, I just dont think it will succeed.
I agree. This is the old boys network at its worst. Check out Saunders managerial record (try Wikipedia and some of the links there). It wasn’t that long ago that the Donny fans were screaming at him ‘you don’t know what you’re doing…’
What a complete and utter Shambles this club and these 2 idiots are..
Is This the Level of this clubs ambition then.
We might as well all pack up and go home.
Might as well have stuck with SS or dare I say MM..
Morgan you are a complete and utter tosser and until your gone Wolves are dead and buried.
Nige I don’t like The fact Morgan relies on moxey, but we just don’t have anyone who will come in and buy it. Would love to see A rob plant glen hughes team with true wolves businessmen behind them. But even that would not suffice in the modern football era.
We all feel your pain bud. But he really is the best of a bad job!
Let’s hope the next appointment can be inspiring and motivational so at least the fans who pay to watch have something to cheer!
Morgan bought Wolves for 1 reason – to keep his builders fully employed. He’s not a Wolves fan, never was and never will be. A complete knee jerk reaction getting rid of SS, whos had one of the worst injuries crisis ever seen at the club. We’re the laughing stock of the football league and now we want a manager who took the mighty (not) Donny down. Its pathetic.
“Morgan bought Wolves for 1 reason – to keep his builders fully employed”. You may not like what is happening (nor do I), but that is no reason to make stupid, ill-informed comments.
Nothing ill-informed there. Why do we have the white elephant that was the Noeth bank to look at then?
£18m on that when the side is as hopeless as they are??
Morgan’s builders did not build the new Stan Cullis (‘North Bank’) stand, hence your comment is ill-informed.
And I suppose Morgan has no financial interest in the houses being built at Compton either???
The profit from the sale of those houses will be used to pay the balance on the St Edmund’s rebuild and the new Academy facilities. It’s all on the Compton development website.
Thanks for that Hersham.
It’s not at all clear from the Compton Park website however that “the profit from the sale of those houses will be used to pay the balance on the St Edmunds rebuild and the new academy facilities”.
What it does say is;-
“55 new four-and five-bed executive homes to be built by Redrow Homes on the remainder of the University’s land, providing a large part of the enabling funding necessary to make the proposals happen.”
As far as I can see there is not even a stab in the dark at what percentage of these profits will go towards the project, a projection of what that would equate to in real terms or a projection of the total profit anticipated from the sale of the fifty five ‘executive’ homes.
As for the smokescreen that is the club’s citation of £50m to upgrade the academy to Premier League Category 1 status – this is utter hogwash!!!
Sir Jack endowed WWFC (not Bridgemere!) with a brand new state of the art Academy and Training complex before he gave, sorry – sold – the club to Morgan.
How much would it have costed to upgrade to category 1? I don’t know but WBA did it within their budget of £3m to bring their inferior facilities up to cat 1 status.
The £50m budget refers to the whole Compton Park programme which has a number of partners and different developments none of which are dependent on another. WWFC do not underwrite it!
As you seem so well informed on such matters can you confirm that Morgan invested £30m (to satisfy the contract when purchasing the club) in cash or in shares?
If it’s in shares can you tell me what company the shares are in and whether they are listed?
Are you absolutely certain that Morgan, Bridgemere or any other of his myriad concerns has no financial interest in the company contracted to build the new stand?
Hi Scooped,
Yes, I also understand that the £50M sum is for the total cost of the ‘Compton project’ (I don’t know why you considered it to be the cost of the Academy alone, when it is clearly stated to be £6M on the website you quote from).
Wolves FC have paid/will pay for the additional school building costs (£5M), the buildings and land purchased from the university (at least £2M?) and the Academy developments (£6M).
The 55 houses will be “…providing the balance for the funding for construction of the new school.” I take this to mean all profits from the housing, as these are not the only costs to be met by the club. Only future balance sheets will show whether this is a correct assumption.
The £30M that Steve Morgan has to put into the club, as a condition of purchase, is to be used for both personnel and facilities. It matters not where it has been before (illegal and revolting considerations aside).
I think Steve Morgan failed to take the necessary action at the end of the 2010-11 season, but I will not make emotive, ill-considered and unsupported statements about him because of it.
Let’s hope we have a Happier Wolves New Year!
Agreed Hersham. Here’s to a happier New year for all of us!
I am more jaundiced than you in these matters. I do not believe Morgans motives are purely altruistic. I am convinced that his motives include, at least in part, exploiting ownership of our club to increase his own personal wealth.
Your assumption that all profits from the sale of the houses will go into the project is a pretty big assumption. I could read “55 new four-and five-bed executive homes to be built by Redrow Homes on the remainder of the University’s land, providing a large part of the enabling funding necessary to make the proposals happen” to commit the club to paying architects or planning fees only!
But you are absolutely right – only future balance sheets will prove the truth.
I think you may have misunderstood the gist of my point about Morgans contractual commitment to invest £30m.
From what I can see from the last audited accounts, WWFC have received a capital investment of £30m but it is in the form of share rights to a Morgan subsidary company; a company that is not listed and whose shares are therefore not tradable. They may be worth £30m but obly to someone who is prepared to pay £30m for them, like the three shares in my local hostelry!
For sure, there has been no cash investment so I do not understand how this piece of paper purporting to be worth £30m can be used to invest in personnel or facilities. This is an abject accounting ploy and, legal or not, a shameful breach of faith to Sir Jack.
Perhaps we should instruct a forensic accountant to examine the books and tell us all in laymans terms just what the state of play is at the football club. Its beyond me!
I don’t like our famous club being just one of a number of subsidary Bridgemere companies. I’d much prefer an owner who doesn’t get involved in community projects, house building, hotel and leisure facilities planning but concentrates solely and exclusively on making Wolverhampton Wanderers FC the best damned football club it can possibly be!
Like you, I have little patience with those who fling wild and unfounded allegations around. Lord knows, in Moxey and Morgans case, the facts are damning enough.
I have less patience however with millionnaire con-men ripping off my family – the fans.
I’m not so sure Mick McCarthy would have been able to assemble the squad that got us promoted without Steve Morgan’s funding, so I think we will have to agree to differ in our opinions of SM’s motives. However, I raise a glass to you for a more enjoyable football-watching year in 2013!
According to the latest Fans Parliament minutes the final cost was £20m and Jez Moxey confirmed in the same minutes, that there was no economic basis for building the new stand.Steve Morgan wanted to get the fans nearer the pitch.Have to say the South Bank still makes more noise than the North Bank, especially with the North Bank now being split. It is also a shame[ and a step backwards] that the roof isn’t big enough and most of the bottom tier get wet when it rains.
Being a pessimist and ready for the worst so that life can’t disappoint is a prerequisite for being a Wolves supporter.
However being a professional pessimist has not allowed me to imagine a worst than is worse than Wolves predicament now.
If Dean Saunders is the best we can do…then we might as well give up. The way the club is at this moment, I would rather be Wimbledon a few years ago; about to go out of business and the Molineux were being built on. Perhaps the supporters could then set up an AFC Wolverhampton and start again from the bottom.
All the talk of “better” managers who are currently out of work not wanting the job is bollocks.
They will all look at SS, and think to themselves ” I will get a three year contract, and if I fail as a manager, they’ll sack me and give lots of money as a payoff”
Win win situation, so we should be able to entice anyone currently out of work, should’nt we???
I believe Solbakken and MM before him were on one year rolling contracts – that might be a reason why no decent manager will touch us with a bargepole.
Lets just formally name Moxey, he does it anyway.
Oh no we cant do that then he would have to be seen to be responsible,
Saunders I know nothing about to be honest – he could do well here, he could not do well here. Same with O’Driscoll. No point bashing anyone if we do end up appointing Saunders until perhaps after a month when we’ll have an idea of where the new manager is taking us
Agreed he would not be my choice and i think it will fail but until then he has my full support.
The current Wolves shower remind me of atories of either ramsey or Busby who used to tell his team to go out and “Express yourselves boys”
Well our players definitley do that bunck of wankers.
that made me laugh NY WOLF , so true !
plays golf with all the other scouse gits presumable old boys club appointed for wages in mind if this fails moxey must surely get the red card till then support the new man he was a good striker so he might show ours where the goals r till the give him a chance
Mad mick was somewhat a decent defender, but he could’nt get our back four defending!!!!
well said hamlet
If Dean is appointed tomorrow by the end of January we should have some kind of idea
about where we are heading.
1. The first team he picks and if they can earn their corn.
2. What players he brings in and shifts out.
3. That the defence show signs of being able to defend.
4. That he steady’s the ship
5.. We are able to get results.
Hersham wolves.
I would be gratefull for your opinion of why the builder bought the wolves .
I was just about to ask hersham wolves the same question
You would have to ask Steve Morgan. I believe he that he is a genuine football fan.
If you are implying that he would buy Wolves to make money for himself, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest this from club balance sheets. I do not know of anyone who has made money from owning a football club , quite the opposite in fact.
‘I do not know of anyone who has made money from owning a football club , quite the opposite in fact.’
You’re joking aren’t you ? What do you think Ken Bates is involved in football for – the love of the game ?
Have you read David Conn’s ‘ The Football Business’ ? or Tom Bower’s ‘Broken Dreams’ ?
If not, do so – and quickly !
Does this mean that you think Steve Morgan is making money out of Wolves? If so, please give me the supporting facts.
I was making a general comment about people who are involved in football purely to take money out of it. The facts are in (inter alia) such books as those I quoted.
As regards Steve Morgan’s interest, I tend to agree with ‘Scooped’s comments as listed above.
I will certainly read the recommended books, thank you for bringing them to my attention. I’m not so sure I will be able to follow your schoolmarmly urging (“If not, do so-and quickly!”) as, in my reading experience, I usually get held up on the colouring-in pages.
As I said to “Scooped”, I will agree to differ on Steve Morgan’s motives for owning the club. Nevertheless, have a Happy New Year!
Likewise – Happy New Year – lets hope it is too for all the contributors on here !
Good luck with the colouring-in. Don’t overdo the black – easy to do given our current plight.
My worry over this is this “Name on one hand how many good (Distinguished) players have become good managers. It’s two different skill sets. Answer to question!!!!!
I just looked up Dean Saunders on Wikipedia
Doesn’t exactly set the pulse racing does it. Lots of talk of Wrexham. Doncaster and exciting games against the likes of Kidderminster Harriers
Win percentage 41% at Wrexham and 35% since last September at Doncaster.
Still i’m sure that will improve with the wealth of footballing talent at Molineux these days.
Saunders may well be a good manager – but he’s a league 1 manager.
Do this board have any ambition at all? We need someone with a proven track record and the ability to kick non-performing players up the proverbial arse.
This is another bloody big gamble by Morgan. Saunders has no managerial pedigree. We could be in the same position in May as we are now.
One other big appointment for me is that of assistant/coach. Donny rovers have Brian Carey – I think we need a proven coach to shake these players up.
Totally, totally, agree.
lets all have o Driscoll .. Lets all have o Driscoll . La la la la. la la la la lets all have o Driscoll lets all have o Driscoll
The obvious stand out candidate is O’Driscoll, so he won’t be appointed.
Morgan & Moxey have no true, real affinity for the club. They are Money men not Football men.
We need rid of both of them asap.
Otherwise the club will just drift aimlessly – brilliant fans sold down the river time and again by the CEO and his cohorts. The whole situation is an utter fiasco – it is still the Pantomime season though !
ODriscoll, Saunders, there would have been uproar if they were considered 12 months ago,how low are we setting our sights ?
Agreed Dave. Plus remember that 6 months ago Saunders was a toxic manager as he had been in the Donny job since September and they didn’t stay up! So 5 months in league one must make him EPL potential. How did we all miss this, that the astute M &M saw so clearly!
You know I was actually considering doing the 500 mile trip down to Blackburn game!!!
We all love Wolves and only want to see them succeed. But surely it has to be players we need! There are now too many toxic players that are affecting others. SORT THEM OUT
Need to ask the following simple questions:
1. Does Saunders (who?) have the experience required to be considered “not a novice” as once thought was necessary for the job?
2. What does he actually bring that will make him an improvement over McCarthy?
3. Does he actually have any experience promoting teams to the EPL, or managing teams in the EPL?
4. Does he have the experience to lift a morally destroyed bunch of players and re-motivate them?
If the answers to the above is mostly negative, then you have your answer. I think he will be just another unknown like Solbakken; another roll the dice to bide the time while they pull wool over our eyes to renew season tickets.
No, sorry, if they appoint Saunders it will be another 6 months of misery, and Morgan would have learned nothing at all. The manager is the foundation for further investment so need to get this spot on.
Time to show some ambition and stop buying cheap!!! Time to appoint someone with experience and class!
Get this right Morgan!
GoWolves!
If and only if dean saunders gets appointed then its a gamble like any other manager who gets the nod at this club with poxey & moron doing the hiring and firing.
Having said that i would prefer someone to get the job with a modicum nous especially in this league, what you need to do as a manager more than anything is to be strong and not to let the player’s dictate no matter what, and to play a player on merit not reputation because that spells disaster.
Time will only tell i’m afraid who ever we have.
I for one i still hope for Butch wilkins with DI Matteo but would they want to come here, probably not.
Another one to add would be Owen Coyle he could do a job here.
Agree about Coyle Johnok, think he would do a good job, don’t think O’Driscoll is the solution, he is a Wolves fan which is great, but so am I, doesn’t mean a great deal I am afraid….although saying that, I would still have him over Saunders…would Peter Taylor be worth a shout, good coach I believe.
Are there any decent players at Doncaster who he might bring with him? Left back, central defender and forward Mr Saunders.
Keep going!!! There’s a few other roles that need filling too
What a Fucking shambles we find ourselves in again.
I really thought Morgan and Moxey had a plan when SS was appointed and I was all for the “Leftfield” decision.
To me it is clear the players have ousted this guy.
They could have beaten Luton, but susspected this could be the straw that broke the camel’s back if they lost, and job done.
They were all thinking lets get a manager in who will go back to kick and rush hoof it style tactics which will hide the fact that none of us can play propper football.
I really thought they would at least have given Stale the season. Most of his conscripts have been injured for most of the season. To a man, I would say all were better than what we already had.
January transfer window was open and MM wanted to get some of his dead wood back. An ideal time for SS to finally try and make his stamp on the team, if the so far unopened war chest was even slightly prized adjar.
The talent he brought in on a budget will no doubt now get sold by Moxey if he sees a decent profit. That is if they don’t ask for transfers as they only came to play for SS.
Siggy for one will be gone, and probably off to a club where he will be allowed to play in his natural role and do extremely well.
When the ground redevelopment was announced, before we were an established Premiership team, I had bad feelings. Money invested in the ground rather than a team which clearly needed it. Stale’s appointment to a degree alieviated this, but now I am struggling to harbor any optimism.
I didn’t agree with the timing of MM’s departure, and now SS’s even less.
Forget the parachute payment, the rip chord broke, we are in freefall.
They say you can’t defy gravity, so how can I continue to say………..Up The Wolves.
Not sure if this has been posted or not
Worth a watch for anyone who hasn’t seen it though.
Its all over Twitter.

Bloody brilliant Nige,
Thats probably the way it works down here.
So funny made me laugh cheered me up…
Hahaha….. made me laugh!
O’Driscoll has turned down the Barnsley job.
Chaps, we’ve had far too much misery as of late….so here’s something to cheer you all up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei7-pzNGU9I&feature=player_embedded&ytsession=itvhzWR_N_16OSQFwjA8PFyRBy0mDdiPfAInZoEzWtubD0xDlb09pHlcc9zGCgHiBg-MDV-Y4Iz0tUDfDIjnM-uifPWd9OYHgwAU8PiM6fPNc2hS89pjF7ZupNRQojW1fNf-RPB4T8z9EiZSRcAb4HjiUKkTSmaEACdYmnk-TyjpJWNLJOOKTz3b-X_cO6vFK8WuOHO0xQlXA47UfQYPXBa8UFerA4G8-r1LGydgbpo
Brilliant. One of the best ever. Everyone should watch this. Best thing to come out of bridgnorth
Ah, such ambition… Dean Saunders.
Saunders – No great experience, too much of an experiment that could end in disaster.
O’Driscoll – Better than above , bit more experience, teams play football, Wolves fan, but then so are Stears and Henry apparently!! Stkk not convinced.
Owen Coyle – Experienced at this level and Prem to a certain extent, solid, would at least keep us up and who knows after that.
Di Matteo – Would need money that M & M wouldn’t give
My pick at the moment – Owen Coyle (unless Sir Alex wants a second job)
It’s often repeated on here that the two ‘M’s are only interested in money and fattening their own wallets. I guess it must have escaped their notice that the real riches come should the team make it back to the Premier League. I must say I’m surprised that two such unprincipled money-grabbers as them had failed to get that fact.
While I’m on on the subject, cheapest option would have been to keep Stale. Next cheapest would be to choose a manager who’s currently unemployed. Having Saunders (and Carey), and the compensation that involves, is hardly a decision based on economy.
Thanks nige .. Cheered me up
Some good comments here.Lots of big names being mentioned. What a lot of folks are forgetting is one stone-cold fact. We are no longer a big club.We are a club in the depths of the Championship with a very poor playing staff and in great danger of being relegated in successive seasons.Saunders and O’Driscoll are the kind of names we are going to have to consider.Be logical;who is going to want to come to a club in such dissaray and looking for their fourth manager inside 12 months.McCarthy and his plodders got us here.
Anyone got any idea roughly how much sacking SS and hiring Saunders will have cost us?
I am sure it’s a lot more than what they could have given McCarthy a year ago to keep the club up!
The last minute or so of this points towards a disturbingly McCarthy-esque transfer policy:

‘The secret is just to get in good characters’. So much for being a forward-thinking, modern football club.
That said, Saunders himself seems to be a good character and maybe that’s what we need in the dressing room at the moment. Certainly not an ideal appointment, but I guess we’ll have to get behind him.
understand morgan has interest in company that built new stand
Thanks for the update, is there any way I can receive an email sent to me when you write a fresh article?
I don`t blame Stalle, in the same way that Ward shouldn`t get the blame for being picked to play left back every week.
Whoever is in charge should carry the can, however Moxey won`t resign, despite being in a results driven industry and being in charge of an ongoing complete failure on the pitch.
I`m not going on Friday, in fact I`m not even going to watch on Sky, stuff the lot of them.
Good luck to the new manager – he`ll need it with this group of players, and an owner and chief executive who are at best incompetent.
