It’s becoming routine.
Lovely between the boxes but miles off it at both ends.

Enough has been said about the attack but the defending has been awful recently.
Chelsea moved us around at will and the only surprise, given the oceans of space they were afforded in and around our penalty area, was it took them 47 minutes to land a punch.
I feel for Steve Davis with the paper thin squad he’s inherited but if he’s in charge next weekend we need to be a lot tighter without the ball. There was a worrying lack of cohesion that you tend to see from sides hanging around the bottom three and as much as we want to start scoring again, we mustn’t become completely soft centered at the back.
Toti came in and played well but the midfield and the wide players didn’t do enough to protect our goal. Chelsea had the handbrake on throughout and their reserves still scored as many as we’ve managed all season – another dire indictment of how bad things have become.
3-0 was perhaps a touch harsh on the balance of play but at the same time, not at all surprising given the deficiencies of the team.
Wolves carried a threat themselves, but as always it just collapsed at the final action.
Traore and Nunes both went slaloming through tackles to open doors but nobody was killing themselves to convert.
The impressive Nunes nearly did it all himself with a superb pass to Traore before heading the cross just over. If you’re looking for a positive he is starting to look like a player who could dig us out of this predicament.
Later on, Hwang scuffed a finish and Podence saw a shot blocked with the goal at his mercy but those moments would only have offered consolation with the game drifting away in the final stages.
Diego Costa barely got a sniff but will benefit from the minutes as we enter a period of games where he must fire.
Well done to Joe Hodge for a composed and competent debut. He barely put a foot wrong and the team looked more balanced after his introduction.
Whoever comes in certainly has plenty to work with but also plenty to work on, as the group are downtrodden and lacking any sort of clear direction.
It’s worrying to see and the danger of how bad this could become if the club make the wrong appointment is real.
Please, make the right one.

It seems that the next manager is already decided.
Probably by Mendes.
Whether it’s a good or bad move will become clear pretty soon.
But we are in desperate need of someone to steer our ship because we are looking completely rudderless at the moment.
Chelsea made seven changes and barely had to get out of second gear.
The next two matches are against the only two teams below us.
You don’t need me to tell you that we need to win them.
Can someone explain to me why we paid £28m for Guedes? He didn’t even try today and was rightly hooked at half time.
Conor Coady would have had his bollocks for breakfast!
Ooop!s Sorry. I really MUST let it lie.
I agree Suttion Coldfield.
Why, I wonder, do we think that all things Portuguese have to be the best available.
First we blew 35 grand on a suppose wonderkid who proved to be anything but. Now this guy, who cost an arm and a leg but appears neither talented nor interested.
Desperate times.
Without the Portuguese. Injection we’re mid table championship.
Al consider the following comparison.
Guedes. A 28 million acquisition. An absolute waste of space both today and last week at West Ham. The guy was just not interested. Petulantly throwing his arms up in the air over nothing: arguing with his captain: Never tracked back : offered zero threat going forward. A total waste of space.
Very correctly Steve Davis showed the guts to take him off at half time forward. back.
Hodge: A young kid hardly any of us had ever heard of who replaced the useless Guedes. The lad worked his socks off; always wanted the ball; got in his tackles and tracked back. In fact one of our better players in the second half
And Hodge is British. Would he have got his chance under Bruno ? No way. Not all Portuguese imports are what they at first seem
I understand that Guedes hasn’t proven worth the money yet. But, you’re comparing him to a kid who’s played 20 minutes in his career.
I believed this about Vitinha. I believed it about Trincão. I believe it about Guedes. They would/will all break out in their second year in the Prem. And, they would all be much more effective if they played on teams that actually had some kind of scoring mentality and style.
Wolves’ style right now counts on individual acts of brilliance. This is bigger than the players. No matter who we bring in, nothing changes.
I don’t buy that Neto, Guedes, Adama, Podence all suddenly forgot how to play. All of those guys would score 8-10 goals at other teams.
35 grand was probably about right!
35 grand was about right!
Perhaps as well as a new Manager / Coach we also need a new MD / CEO.
The club has hardly flourished since Shi took sole charge.
I’m still trying to figure out what Sellars brings to the table. Think the previous encumber had a better idea…..
Hardly – meaning:
Championship title – Europe – 2 7th place finishes, FA Cup Semi – Final – 10th place finish last year.
£100million spent this term.
But yeah, we have “hardly” flourished…..
Okay so it wasn’t brilliant Let’s look at the positives Were not managed now by someone who was jealous of the adoration heaped onto Captain Coady to the point he sanctioned getting rid of him. The biggest thing we missed today was the organization Coady would have given to our defense Jonny was poor Semedo wasn’t on top form Kilman is listening for instructions and when they don’t come then pass it backwards be safe. Now the positives Nunes starts to look like the 40 mil player we bought but will he stay with us when the big boys come for him? Hodge was outstanding in the second half. Totti did ok good enough to keep his place Podense tried but had zero help from Guedes who was quite rightly taken off at half time. Now the marmite king Adama You either like him or loathe him. I like him. He terrified their defense once he got started with the type of crosses most center forwards love. So are we in trouble? When you look at Chelsea’s bench then we aren’t going to finish in the top 6. With the quality we do have and the right manager at the helm we will manage a middle of the road position providing we hang on to Neves and Nunes. Instead of hiring ex Albion player currently with Weat Ham offer Coady money he can’t refuse and buy the contract back off Everton. At least we get someone we know can do the job. Out of darkness cometh light Up the Wolves
I feel dejected that, not only have we not looked like scoring which has very much now become the norm, but our once proud strong defence has now been dismantled.
I don’t know which is worse, but I feel so sorry for the manager who is brave enough to sort it all out.
Very true Aquilador.
Our once proud strong defence was systematically dismantled by Lage in pursuit of banishing all things Nuno. The treatment of Conor Coady has been shameful and seriously detrimental to the cause and imo both Boly and Saiss (plus Dendoncker) have been pushed out prematurely leaving a vacuum which was particularly notable today.
The cupboard is now bare both at the back and the front with lots of non-producers in between.
Absolute shambles.
Collins is out due to suspension.
Just goes to show our lack of strength in depth then; take a look at today’s bench.
Just listened to the Football Weekly podcast on the midweek European games. Sid Lowe talking about Sevilla’s implosion – loss of two important centre backs, signing of Martial, club turmoil, forwards unable to turn possession and chances into goals………something familiar about this?! As one of the presenters then said, ‘sounds like the ideal guy to take over at Wolves!’ Well let’s just hope that, if it is indeed Lopetegui, a different environment will make the difference. I mean, Andalucia to the Black Country, bound to have an effect :-). Great piece by Johny Phillips in the E&S today. Nailed it.
My take is that today`s game did nothing but emphatically show us just what a huge hole Bruni dug before his dismissal.
From the outset he was determined to rid the club of all things Nuno. Without any thought for the consequences, he got rid of all of our leaders both on the field and in the dressing room. — Saiss, Ruddy were just allowed to leave, and Coady, who epitomized team spirit and a genuine love for our club, was almost given away.
The result ? Now we are no longer a unified pack fighting for each other and feared by all — just a group of individuals, a good number of whom appear not to care.
Under Bruno, our team increasingly got used to not winning, and failing to score. The pride of performance, so abundant and pivotal under Nuno, simply dissipated.
Now, not only can`t we score, but we cant defend either. Today we were totally disorganized at the back ,and without a leader. Chelsea`s second stringers barely had to break sweat to penetrate our defense. Would this lackadaisical approach have happened had Connor Coady been there !!
Bruno`s gone, and that in itself has to be a massive plus. But I don`t think that any of us should just assume that the new coach– whoever he may be — will just step in and sort out what has become a rabble over night. We face along battle to get out of the mess that Bruno left behind.
Watched it. Bruno has destroyed what we had and what I enjoyed.
I am sickened.
Brompton, the worst part about what Bruno did is that he made no secret of what he was about. From the very beginning of his tenure he decried Nuno`s success, — for him, changing Nuno` system and ridding the Club of Nuno`s stalwarts became an obsession.
What would we give today to be able to rely on Coady, Dendonker, Saiss, etc– all dedicated to the cause and loving Wolverhampton Wanderer`s FC !! And just what do we have in lieu ?
Well Bruno got his way. And we are left with a club which is on its knees, because in the last resort Bruno proved to be clueless. The new man will inherit a team without method, unable to score or defend, and with players either totally disheartened or simply not interested.
What an absolute shambles. Those running our club should be thoroughly ashamed of their gross incompetence. It`s not just a new inspired coach that`s needed, it`s also the compete clearing out of the Boardroom buffoons who have allowed this travesty to happen
What a terrible blame aim post. Fosun and Jeff Shi have been admirable backing Wolves and what a roller coaster 6 years have been.
Pulling the plug on Kenny Jacket, Walter Zenga, Paul Lambert, Rob Edwards, Nuno and now Bruno in the continued search for that special one. ‘Every great team that’s ever been was created by a great manager’.
The manager, the most important man at any club, the man who brings the success, that every club is looking for and there are not very many to go around.
Owning a football club so difficult to administer yet so easy to be critical of. Fosun and the board have my backing and the majority of Wolves fans but as we see here, there is always criticism from those who are not owners themselves.
I blame Coady who put himself ahead of the team. And Dendoncker.
Is being a cheerleader at the World Cup that important that you would betray the fans that cheered you on for 5 years or more?
Let’s face it, the club could not force him to leave and he said he jumped at the opportunity to join Everton.
You blame Coady all you like – you’re totally misguided. One of the best servants for WWFC in many, many years and driven out by an idiot.
Sorry John, but I think that you`re just plain wrong. Coady gave his all for our club — and made no secret of his utter devotion. He was not only a very good player, but an outstanding and inspirational captain.
Precisely the man we so desperately need right now. There`s no way he would have left if he`d been given a fair crack of the whip by a coach who was not fit to lace his boots.
The hapless Lage –who would struggle to get a result from a Sunday league pub side –was so obsessed in getting Coady out of the door, that we now find the transfer sum, if the loan is converted, is a mere pittance of 4.5 million !! Then, at the same time he rejoices at lamming out millions on the useless Guedes.
Lage must rank below even Dean Saunders in term of coaching ability — and that just about says everything
Lage was not even talking and took training, without Coadys inclusion in his new system, according to reports .
How can any true Wolf criticise Coady an injury free ever present all but, the club captain and an England International as well as being a larger than life Wolves media ambassador ?
Many of us are and wrll be truly shocked by such a claim.
I’m sorry but I don’t share some of the adulation about this squad. We have loaned out or sold our better players. What on earth was going through anyone’s mind to get rid of Coady and fabio with no replacements. Madness. Also I believe those who have come in are not of particularly better quality than those who have gone and certainly not as motivated to the cause. This is a squad of limited ability that needs organising and motivation to stay up. Don’t kid yourself we are in a relegation battle. First thing i s to make ourselves hard to score against….stupid thing is we will probably have to go to loan market to get someone not as good and dedicated as Coady. This is the story of lage tenure. I may be in a minority but I’d like sean dyche given a chance….it won’t happen….next manager will be an average overseas manager but dyche would organise and motivate us. Alternatively Steve Bruce may soon be free.!! ( irony of course)
The blame lies with the idiots who run the club .
It was plain as a pikestaff to me and others as said at the time that Lage should have been sacked at the end of last season and reports now indicate that the players had lost faith in him
by the end of last season should have made them act .
Instead they spent over£100 million on players Lage wanted and kept him on and we are now in deep deep trouble . The owners only have themselves to blame .
Let’s hope theirs another 100 million in January but this time round have a competent manager/coach involved. If not I fear the worst, we don’t even give teams a game now.
Too good to go down i don’t think so
I just can’t believe that our team has scored less goals than all of the bottom teams in every league, championship, one, two, National, National North and South.
The fact that Barnet, a team I used to watch as a lad, scored more goals in a single game, and still lost, than Wolves have scored in nine games.
I shouldn’t have said that… I’m even more dejected, so I’m sure the rest of you guys are too…
It’s an absolute mess…my hope is that a new manager can somehow reign it in and make what is a quality group of players get into some kind of sync and start performing. It’s there!! Right in front of us!! It’s just not working at the moment!! I feel as frustrated as everyone else does. I fucking love this club but my disillusionment at the moment makes me feel like if they can’t get anything out of the forest game next week I’m going to put £20 on us going down!!!
This feels like a low point but with the waters rising fast it won’t be long before we are well and truly sunk.
I hope to god Julen or some other inspirational character turns up or at least gives us a strong sign next week. We need some hope from somewhere, we can’t be drifting for much longer.
It’s heartbreaking to see us really struggling. You do have to consider the opposition though.
Losing to forest would be 10 times worse.
The opposition? Chelsea reserves. We’d have been licking our lips if they put out that team when we were a team.
An absolute pathetic performance yesterday with 11 individuals out there on the park.
Heart, soul and spirit appears to have all but disappeared.
One of the worst management decisions to be made ever is to loan out Coads. That l truly believe will come to haunt us for some time.
3 points a must against Forest.
Conor coady keeps mentioning in interviews just how much he cares about Wolves and when he plays for a team , he plays because he wants to help the club he plays for . On that basis then he should come back to us after the world Cup and help. Because we need help and we need him back .
Unfortunately, Everton have an option to buy for £4.5 million as I understand it. Think they will probably take it up, it’s a no brainer.
Now that the shortcomings of Lage’s competence are becoming clearer by the day why the hell was he allowed by Shi and co. to sabotage our club? His uncontrolled decimation of our squad was systematic throughout the summer and from day 1 he was on a mission to purge any remnants of the Nuno era for the sake of it.
Jeff Shi is supposed to be running the club and it’s fair to say that it’s been a bloody mess since Laurie Dalrymple left for Harlequins.
Absolutely agree … but any deal with Everton will be down to Conor … just wandering if he’s good for his words .
Hopefully, we get a decent manager in as soon as possible
We got some underperforming but obviously talented players. None of them are used to be in a losing team , hopefully a decent coach should unlock some of these issues . We are not done yet !
UTW .
How’s it down to Connor? Don’t Everton have the option? Even if they didn’t want him they could pay the £4.5m and sell him on at a profit.
So a player has no option on who he signs for ?
Not after the paperwork is all done and dusted.
Looks like you are right … just read an article by Johnny Phillips saying pretty much that .
For fuck sake … all the positions that we are desperately short in have been loaned out or given away .
I’m starting to think that Bruno lage is one of the worst fucking managers in wolves history .
For once the international break ( world Cup) could actually save us !
Why don’t you wait to see what happens the rest of the season before making assumptions.
He was under contract to Wolves so contracts don’t mean anything. Just give the team a little money when a player moves on.
If he says he wants to go back to Wolves, would Everton say no?
I would also like to see Conor Ronan get a start instead of Moutinio. I have seen him play for wolves and he was impressive. I have also seen some of the fantastic goals he scored in Scotland. He definitely knows where the net is .
He could never hope to get a game under the useless Lage because he`s not Portuguese, so how could he possibly be good enough !! Perhaps the new coach will give him the chance he deserves.
Same thing ref Sanderson. A great prospect who was never give any sort of a chance
Its strange how quickly everything changes…
Were not at the races for sure but a new manager could be all we need to start clicking.
Stick together and hang on tight.
Just remember folks……..you could have chosen stripes!
No. I could never have chosen stripes. That is against the law!
Wow. People sure do complain a lot here. Wow.
You are right, Vince, we have absolutely nothing to complain about. The league table and scoring only 3 goals in 9 games is a figment of our collective imagination.
It’s not even the complaining that’s shocking. It’s that everyone thinks they know the answers.
The same people talking about Joe Hodge and Connor Ronan were complaining that Owen Otasowie wasn’t playing more. And let’s not even get started on the vitriol pointed at Semedo at Fabio.
Hi everyone, just gonna throw a name in for the wolves coach .
What about,
Wait for it….
Sean Dyche.
He knows the Premiership and never had any money.
Eddy Howe has turned a shabby Newcastle side around so why not Sean Dyche.
Just a thought .
I might get lambasted but who give a shite.
Yeah and he knows how to get out of a delegation scrap. He’s a safer bet than Lopetegui who could be .ore of the same.
I do recall Jeff saying at the end of last season everybody has a price except Coady who is priceless.
Coady wanted to leave. The low price is probably out of respect for his service to us. It’s mad tho – he is worth so much more (priceless). Be great if he came back (unfinished business and all that) but it’s doubtful. Maybe as assistant manager ?
Jim
Coady wanted to leave because it was made clear by Lage that he wasn’t part of his plans. One of the most loyal stalwarts and best leaders for many a year cast aside as part of Lage’s (failed) master strategy.
Lage now deserves to be membered alongside the likes of Saunders and Terry Connor as a Wolves manager. His arrogant revolution rather than evolution approach has left the club in crisis.
Let’s hope we can find the right messiah and soon. If we don’t relegation is staring us in the face and the Fosun project is probably dead in the water; it appears they may have far more pressing issues elsewhere.
Who would Coady play ahead of? Are you benching Kilman or Collins.? Because, that was the issue. Coady didn’t want to be third choice.
The problem now is that we almost certainly need to go back to basics to steady the ship. That means a back 5 but two of the best exponents of that system (Coady and Saiss) have gone and those that remain can’t do it unless Neves assumes the sweeper role which, if course, will leave us light in midfield. Conundrums and conundrums.
I’m sure we can go to the back three with Gomes or Mosquera.
Good enough?
I’ll keep saying it in the hope Jeff reads this Blog……..GET ANGE in…..no more Mendez puppets.
It’s time Jeff looked beyond Mendez the world does revolve around him and that includes the football world he might think it does but it doesn’t.
It’s about time Jeff broadens his horizons Ange is a very good coach he turned Celtic round in twelve months from chumps to champions playing attractive football he built a brand new squad in that time for little money compare to Wolves budget..
As some have already Blogged our Premier League status depends on this appointment get it wrong and six years of hard work goes down the drain.
Players like Moutinho, Neves and Nunes don’t go anywhere near wolves without Mendes (with an “s”)
Get this appointment wrong and it’s probably all over. Whoever it is, the new manager has a huge task on his hands as the confidence of the squad is shattered and there are players on the pitch who just seem to have given up.
My greatest fear is that the appointment may make little difference without getting in a top striker in the next window. I love Raul, but who knows when he will be back to full fitness. Hwang just isn’t at the races at the moment and Costa will probably only be able to play at an intense level for limited periods of time. If Fosun don’t invest (subject to FFP) in somebody of real quality who can be a focal point for attacks at the sharp end, I honestly believe it will be an uphill struggle to survive even with the quality of others in the squad. It feels slightly embarrassing to be asking Fosun for yet more investment after their Summer splurge but, if they don’t do it, there is a strong possibility they will say goodbye to the top flight.
Coady’s loan was out of respect for his service. If Bruno wasn’t going to start him, then it was the right thing to do.
If you think the locker room was lost. Imagine what it would have been like if they kept their loyal soldier there against his will.
Vince, you’re wasting your time.
You were correct with your comment above, too many people on here think they have the answer.
Opinions are based on the slightest of gossip provided by jounalists with ‘column inches’ to fill. Look at the panic that resulted from Andy Carroll’s name appearing in a national rag simply because he didn’t have a club and we needed an emergency replacement for Raul.
We’ve been told that Lage had lost the dressing room and yet Diego Costa is reported as saying they were all shocked and sad at his sacking.
Truth is, none of us will ever know the whole story and all we can do is watch on from the sidelines.
Who is joker on here who keeps ” saying it in the hope Jeff reads this Blog”?
I sincerely hope that Jeff doesn’t have the time to read this blog.
Or maybe that’s the problem? Perhaps he got rid of Laurie Dalrymple because he can get all the expertise he needs on here?
It’s a blog pal, the whole point of it is to express your opinion and discuss things with other Wolves fans. If nobody did that it would be completely pointless and very boring.
Slagging off the owners is not an “opinion”.
Well no if you want to get into semantics, slagging someone off is the expression of having a low opinion of them.
Why don’t you tell us how good they are and why, i’d be interested to hear how you arrived at your opinion.
Personally i think they’ve been a total shitshow since Sept 2020 when they purchased Fabio and sold Jota and Docherty.
Doherty
Pretty sure “it’s only a game” is expressing his opinion. Or, do opinions only count if you’re being cynical and trashing a player’s very existence.
I’m sure you’ll admit your cynicism if Fabio becomes a 20 goal scorer.
Nah…you can only whine
I like Fabio but he wasn’t worth anywhere near £35 million and still isn’t. I hope he is when he comes back to us. My cynicism is not about him as a player it’s about the price they payed for him. Only an idiot would say we got value for money.
Yeah ‘its only a game’ was expressing his opinion on other bloggers expressing their opinion.
We are 3rd from bottom and have scored 3 goals and we’re on a Wolves blog moaning about the team and the hierachy, when we win we heap praise on the team and when the hierarchy get it right we heap praise on them too. Swings and roundabouts, get over it.
Poor little millionaires getting bashed on blog 🙁
We basically need 9 wins and 5 draws from 29. Draw a line under it and go again. The new gaffer needs to stamp a new identity on the way the team plays. It’s football. At least we ay Sandwell Town.
CoD
I admire your positivity, I really do, but come on admit it, it’s a bloody mess and worst of all an opportunity created initially by Fosun’s ingenuity and followed up by the genius that was Nuno and now all on the verge of being thrown away,
I for one don’t want to see our football club thrown back into serial mediocrity or worse due to the sheer incompetence of local management and/or indifference of our owners. The panic investment in August came 2/3 years too late to keep “the project” on track.
Last chance saloon has arrived.
PJB. My post wasn’t overwhelmingly positive. It was just saying what the bottom line is. Taking away all the arguments around how the club has handled itself. I am just taking the pragmatic view. And 9 wins . 5 draws. Gives us 38 points. Which is enough to stay up. That is all i am concerned with going forward. Enough points to stay up. There is plenty of time to conduct an analysis of how Jeff/Fosun have performed. I for one am not looking forward to Huddersfield and Hull on a wet Tuesday in November. So my focus is getting behind whoever comes in and supporting them to the hilt to ensure that doesn’t happen.
Keep the faith cheese
I’m 100 percent behind you
Thanks mate. Appreciated.
Me too
Cheers.
And I will say I fully support PJB and others who make the case for their argument. We are a family of Wolves fans. All with different views. Wouldn’t this blog be boring if we all just said the same thing ?
Filling this blog with repetitive slagging off of Fosun and Mr Lage may help some writers to feel better
But I’m not joining in
We have a squad with a lot of quality and experience and some promising U 23’s that we’re starting to get a glimpse of
We have encountered some wretched injuries that will deplete our resources fur a long time it seems So next man up!
My appeal is to let’s focus on what’s needed ( in a scenario that keeps Fosun as owners rather than say Kuwait… or Watford – like loonies)
It’s been said but I’ll repeat
Next managerial appointment is crucial
Whoever that is needs to rebuild confidence / impose an
Aggressive playing style and convey the ‘reasons to succeed’ to a lot of good players
A couple of shrewd signings would help in January and I was encouraged to see that dear Fabio Silva was Anderlechts best player last week vs WHam ( but I would leave him there for the season)
Toti will improve as will Hodge and Campbell and Nunes looks real quality
It’s going to be a stressful season for sure but let’s focus on the 29 PL games ahead
Just saying
OODCL
You are certainly correct about getting it right this time because at the moment we are very much in last chance saloon.
But constructive criticism isn’t “slagging off”. Can you really say that you feel Fosun have been on the case for the last 3 years? Their transfer policy has been incompetent and inconsistent and their ambitions have receded in line with their own wider problems.
As far as Lage is concerned I am frequently on record as backing him until it became clear early this season that he was completely out of his depth and making irreversible decisions which were detrimental to the club; that’s hardly filling the blog with repetitive slagging off.
And if you are happy with the state of play at Molineux fair enough you are entitled to your views as are we all but let’s try and keep it civilized rather creating a personal battleground which you seem to want to do. I have supported the club for over 60 years and would love to be able to be much more positive but imo things have recently gone badly wrong and unnecessarily so – a great opportunity is disappearing in front of our eyes.
Disgraceful decision by the Sandwell Town board to sack Steve Bruce. He was just starting to turn it round after the hard fought 0-0 draw at home to Luton. Come in Agent Allardyce. You have unfinished business.
There’s also a Portuguezer free who knows the area.
Gerrim in and back him.!
Seriously though, there are 20 Premier League teams all with talented squads led by motivated and ambitious coaching teams. We are relatively new boys in the league and despite the euphoria surrounding the Nuno years, we will now have to scrap to save our place. Fight for those 38 survival points, do we have the players with the determination to get there? The new boss will soon find out. Given how Lage has ripped out the experience within the team, I’m far from confident a new leader improve our position before the January window. A clean sheet against Forest will be a start, forget ‘must win’ – we have to stop the rot.
Fabio’s goal yesterday. Lovely, just what we’re are missing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WlhbBfiR3A
how the fuck can we not get him back ? who agrees this shit ?
The same person that agreed the conditions of the Coady deal to Everton, no recall/£4.5 Everton option to buy…….may be it was a typo, did you mean “ who agrees this, Shi?”
Dumb and dumber are at the controls.
Please. Most of the people calling for his return would have sold him for a bag of whistles. He wasn’t scoring on a team that doesn’t score. How many players are going to come here and be declared failures bc they don’t score FOR A TEAM THAT DOESNT SCORE!!
Shocking!!!
You’re beginning to sound like stuck record Vince.
and Leo Campana … have a look at his latest goal on you tube .
Remember him ? he’s a wolves player
Campana is still a Wolves player but Inter Miami have the option to buy, so it’s out of our hands surely. And, if they don’t want to buy him then, that should be a warning to us. Mind you, players can look good in foreign leagues. Just look at Fabio Silva, who we will be able to recall at the end of the season. Is he really able to perform in the PL? And for that matter, Rafa Mir is looking good where he is but he was considered rubbish even on loan in the championship.
And for that matter, coaches can look good in foreign leagues too but be unable to hack it in the PL. Bruno proved that.
Lopetegui seems to need a break. I’d be unhappy if we couldn’t get him on board well before the month is out. Pochettino on the other hand is available and has a track record of PL competence. I don’t know if he would come to us, but I don’t want to hang round ages for Lopetegui. It doesn’t make sense to appoint an interim coach. We need to appoint a permanent guy now but not accept second best. The single most disastrous appointment this century, in my opinion, was Terry Connor.
All not going to plan with Lopetegui?
I remember a Portuguese manager called Nuno Espirito de Santo who did an excellent job in the PL when he was given the backing that Lage eventually received. Maybe another call to Mr Fixit Mendes could be an idea Jeff – go on swallow your pride.
Good call, Nuno proved himself here. He should have been backed, not sacked. I’d welcome him back as long as he is supported
Jeff only just jetted out tonight. Give the fuckin bloke a chance.
Actually agree with you PJB
Should never have binned him off. Most Wolves fans would have given him more time. Why he went is between him and Fosun .
And let’s not forget Goncalves. He was so poor, he was let go on a free.
Interesting how the ‘Mendez influence’ now appears to be an issue. When the first two Prem seasons we were top 7. Didn’t see anyone moaning then ?
Fickle lot, football fans. The team are world beaters after a couple of wins but when the inevitable setback occurs , then the blame culture creeps in. There always has to be a scapegoat, I despair at games when I hear the amount of slagging off certain players get, their faces never fit. It’s as if they want the team to lose.
It’s failing though CoD, when we were in the Championship it was a big deal and when we first came up it made the difference being able to attract quality players to the project. As an established Premier side we don’t need to have a connection to Mendes. This is the richest most popular league in the world, players and managers want to come to it. How else would you get Ranieri at Leicester, Benitez at Newcastle or Ancelotti at Everton. None of which are ‘big six’ clubs or anywhere near them but all those managers have achieved great things with much bigger clubs. It’s like only ever shopping in Tesco. The last couple of seasons the arrangement does not stand up to any scrutiny as to the benefits it has brought to the club.
Large marine fish, popular with chips? Cash on Delivery? ****ing acronyms. Help me out, Happy.
Cheeseburger of Death Hindsight, original poster.
Ahhh. Another shite acronym then.
If you look at the run of games for the rest of October, I’m sure we’ll all know if we’re staying up come November 1st.
Being widely reported now that Lopetegui has turned down the job as his elderly father is unwell.
If true, perfectly understandable.
Let’s hope there is a back up plan.
Back up plan probably = Jorge Mendes reserves,
If so please bring back Nuno.
Bollocks to him. If he don’t want to manage our brilliant club he can fuck off.
Are you seriously saying bollocks to Lopetegui for wanting to be with his family?
My dad is 87 and has gone downhill in the last twelve months so I’ve had no choice but to reduce my working hours to be his main carer. Most weeks I’m frazzled trying to juggle work, my family and my dads care and I only live 10 minutes away from him.
I can totally understand him not wanting to leave Spain at the moment. Family is more important than anything and respect to him for telling us straight and not stringing this out any longer than necessary.
Harsh, I respect anyone who puts his family first, it has to be more important than taking on a team in free fall.
Quite so.
More tea vicar?
I’d like to think that if I was in the same situation as Lopetegui’s dad, my son would make the same decision.
Hope I never have to find out.
Guillem Balague quote that Lopetegui is not joining despite “ Wolves making an impressive case of a team accidentally towards the bottom of the table” made me laugh out loud. An accident that we didn’t sign a striker for 5 windows, an accident that when we did we bought one with a long track record of injury, an accident we sold our captain and heart of the team for a pittance and no recall during the loan period, an accident we sent our one available striker on loan without recall……bloody hell we aren’t half accident prone.
Any manager joining us now knows he isn’t first choice and also knows that as soon as Lopetegui’s father passes, his job will probably be under pressure. We are a case study of footballing rags to riches and back to rags under this management. The Shi, Sellars, Mendes axis is a busted flush and will see us relegated.
A team accidently in freefall for the last 6 months
Accidental Agent might be running at Ascot on Saturday. If so, we should all back him.
Reading between the lines (in various articles) I had a feeling Lopetegui would need a break anyway, even without his father’s illness. For me, we need a safe pair of hands now, with PL experience absolutely essential. Unless we’re going to eat humble pie with Nuno, ideally we should go for Pochettino. However, there’s a lot to be said for Dyche on a one year contract with option to extend. Dyche even has experience in Europe. We’re probably in a relegation battle and we’re not too good to go down. I simply don’t want to hear about some wizard bloke who’s doing well coaching in Portugal, Greece, Scotland etc unless he’s got a good track record in the PL.
Agree … a short term , backs to the wall manager with tough premier league experience. I wouldnt have agreed a day ago but we are in trouble. You make a good sensible constructive point . As for Pochettino , I would take him over anyone , unfortunately, I think he’s too big for us , however he did manage Southampton, you would hope the club would at least ask the question with a fantastic offer eh !?
Doesn’t seem much point waiting for ten games anymore before coming to a conclusion as the whole thing has blown up in our faces big style.
People considering Shaun Dyche as our saviour is an indicator as to how far we have fallen in such a short time and is bordering on panic mode because if Dyche is the answer then you may as well call big Sam for the difference it would make.
Blaming management for this whole farce is pretty irrelevant as no one will admit to anything worth knowing but that being a given they cannot deny this is a farce of monumental proportions however it has come about and the cumulative responsibility rests fairly and squarely on their shoulders.
As to the answer to turning this disaster into something constructive and saving the season we at least have plenty of time to sort this mess out as Newcastle did last season so all is not lost as long as the next appointment is made correctly which with the current track record of our leaders surely leaves us in a state of trepidation.
Who will come to us with our owners track record ? probably a Mendes man but i have to say this tack is getting a little windless and we must at some time change course and find another way.
Whatever happens we will all still be here that’s for sure and with the quality we still possess in the squad it shouldn’t take a mastermind to get them playing as a team again .
SO ITS SHAUN DYCHE THEN !!!!!! NOT
We are where we are. Things have changed. Fosun sacked Bruno, without a replacement waiting in the wings! Wheels were falling off under Bruno and there’s little hope of immediate change. Late last season we got a credible 2-2 result at Stamford Bridge. With well over £100mil spent since then, we went down 3-0 there last week. Go figure.
My choice in order of preference is:
1. Nuno.
2. Poch.
3. Dyche with a one year contract.
My number 3, Dyche, is not panic mode, it’s realism in the new circumstances if we can’t appoint a top class long term candidate. Maybe a top class coach doesn’t fancy a relegation battle?
You are being extremely harsh on Dyche, spikey. He got Burnley to overperform for years in the Premier League and, on a league position v budget performance assessment, I wouldn”t mind betting that he comes out very near the top or even top of all managers over the past few years. I just don’t know what people have against him (apart from his teams always seeming to put one over us!) and in my view he’s a far superior candidate to some of the names being bandied about. Maybe he’s not the sexy choice but would the sexy choice save us from relegation?
I understand that Ian Woan, his assistant, may have been the problem at Burnley, at least as far as the players were concerned. Mind you, that’s on the basis of perhaps one article/comment!!
The case for Dyche

i’m hearing Pedro Martins is not being considered
The conundrum Wolves now face in addition to finding a manager is do they go for a long term, short term or holding pattern approach. The World Cup is approaching which provides a natural break in a few weeks time. Between now and the January transfer window which will be critical for us, a lot can happen. If Lopetegui really is their go to choice, given the age and health of his father, it could be that he is available sooner than we might think right now. This is risky but could support a holding pattern with our existing coaching staff for a few weeks. Another option is to go for an interim fire fighter appointment until the end of the season. Again risky as it could seal our relegation fate but the try before you buy policy is one we have used with playing staff previously. The final option of a longer term permanent appointment carries less risk assuming we are thorough in our search but as per other bloggers in my opinion it has to be someone with very impressive credentials or proven pl experience. The likes of Pedro Martins, as was Bruno Lage, are simply not in that category. Being Portuguese and a mendes client are not the right criteria to be using to select a manager unless of course you don’t want the whole set up by which you run the club being questioned……..
Mick will get ’em to put in a shift!
He said he’d like to see what he could do with that kind of budget. Give him the players and let him put up or shut up!
The bookies don’t know that London as he’s 4/11 favourite. Next comes Leonardo Jardim, yet another Portuguese now managing in Dubai(!) but formerly Monaco manager.
Everton are having problems with their accounts . Maybe they will not have the funds available for Cody???
Many apologies Coady not Cody!!!!
If the press is to be believed, we have so far held talks with Lopetegui, Pedro Martins and Rob Edwards . A simple question, can anyone fathom what selection criteria we are therefore applying to our hunt for a new manager? Good to know we have strategic genius permeating our hierarchy, I can sleep easier at night now.
Likewise! – the simple answer is probably to ignore any press speculation. An ex Wolves pro said that he thought Bruno was available, cheap but ultimately out of his depth. Another similar appointment and the Fosun project will have us back in the Champ and they will walk away having written off their investment.
Fact is if fosun get this appointment wrong we will be back into the championship then the shaun dyche argument would come to the fore as hoof ball with a 7ft centre forward would become the order of the day so he probably would be a good choice then but right now hoofing it up to 5ft 2″ podence doesnt seem to be a good idea and i dont think our technically gifted players would take kindly to his agricultural tactics so regardless of the fact those same tactics kept burnley in the prem for so long they certainly would not suit our players one iota.
We need a top manager for the quality players we have and he is going to cost and he is going to want assurances about his next transfer budget and fosuns previous is not good on that score so something concrete needs to be put in place to convince the type of man we need to come to molineux and i am far from convinced that shi and his yes men are the ones to convince anyone on that score.
Gau needs to step in and sort this out as it seems he did when we needed the cash in the last window and in my mind that means replacing shi and sellars with proper footballing people who know the game inside out and will bring stability and common sense will calm the whole situation down and convince a top manager to come and take the reigns because believe me if shaun dyche gets that job you wont have a problem getting a ticket for a game as long as he is in charge
Absolute old wives tale, spikey, if you believe Dyche is an advocate of ‘Hoofball’ and agricultural tactics. Did you not watch his Burnley teams? I suggest you take those blinkers off and take an objective view and not a stereotype someone who has loads of football nouse.
Forget watching Burnley, Hind Sight, I’m not sure Spikey has been watching Wolves of late because I saw plenty of long high balls heading Podence’s way during Lage’s tenure. I think Spikey may be confusing Dyche with dear departed Graham Taylor. After all, they both used to manage Watford.
Hind Sight and Spikey boy .
I am not Mr Dyche’s strongest fan but I do admit to a certain admiration for him and his record with Burnley and credit to Burnley FC for allowing such a long tenure. He kept Burnley in the Premier by making the best of his resources . I took a look at the record of Burnley v Wolves games. In the last twelve fixtures , Wolves won only one, lost six and drew five. I can remember
us. being completely outplayed on one very warm summer’s day.
I do not recall anything other than smart, fast football from Burnley that day… Hoofball? If you have a target player who is able to gather and hold the ball following one pass from the defence and make something happen then that for me is direct football.
Dougan and Richards were masters at this , as were Toshak and Keegan.
I know it is early in the season and a couple of wins would see a surge up the table . This could happen. We could also slip further and a coach who could give master classes in keeping a team up could be attractive .
Whomsoever is appointed, I would appreciate a coach whose post match
observations are comprehensible to me. I admit to finding difficulty in understanding Bruno Lage. But then I cannot speak Portuguese.
I for one never ever want to see hoofball… and that’s what dinosaur managers rely on … percentage football etc ..
Whoever disliked you Spikeyboy should go follow Sam Alladyce or Mad Mick teams … all managers currently in work btw …. Lol
Like and dislike are crude observations regarding a comment. I choose not to use them. It is worth remembering that hitting dislike relates to the comment, Lord Twix, and not the writer. No one “ disliked “ Spikey boy. They simply disagreed with something in his contribution. And therein lies the rub.
Many contributors make several observations which represent their personal viewpoint. I often find myself in agreement with part of what is written, and
in disagreement with other parts. So hitting dislike can mean , I disagree ( or dislike) all that you are saying , or most of what you are saying.
There is a problem , in my view, with contributors firing off immediate responses without trying to understand what they are responding to.
If these comments were made in the pub amongst a group of fans, I would hope that those present could disagree in a friendly way, and agree to disagree.
Not to do so is a national problem in the UK, ie, not having the ability to disagree gracefully. This is why 50% of our universities do not have debating societies any more. Heaven forbid that anyone might read or hear something that upsets them.
But it’s a blog…I know.
That’s my point .. I never had any thought that dislikers aimed it a Spikeyboy… if there are liners of hoofball … let’s hear from them … but not to hide behind a thumbs down …
Me .. I detest hoofball..
Just my personal choice .…
I think most of us dislike “Hoofball” Twix but if you seriously believe that’s what Burnley were playing when Dyche was in charge then you are doing him a great disservice and plainly wrong. I suggest that you read Kendal’s first post above which succinctly describes what his teams are all about. And don’t forget that he has always has to operate on an extremely small budget in Premier League terms. He’s been able to make a silk purse out of a show’s ear. Image what he might be able to do if the silk purse is partly made .
Sow’s ear!
Not sure what the definition of this probably imaginary hoofball is but if it’s sometimes employing long raking balls to the forward line then the latest exponent is a certain Josep Guardiola. Dinosaur! One sign of a good manager is someone who can adapt his tactics to suit the resources at his disposal and this has enabled a certain centre forward to outscore us fivefold . Dyche also used the resources at his disposal extremely well.
long raking balls by man city to the tallest and deadliest striker the premier league has ever seen yes that would make sense so if you saw that you also saw them play unbelievable intricate passing football which is what they do 99% of the time
Unfortunately, all of the people who wanted Bruno let go never thought about the issue of getting a replacement lined up.
Are you referring to the wolves club hierarchy or the fans or both? And very well said kendalwolf by the way
I’m very surprised, actually shocked, that Fosun didn’t have something up their sleeve when they sacked Bruno. We’re clearly in uncharted territory now, checking the Job Centre for unemployed top class coaches.
I always said we should have backed Nuno, not sacked him. After two 7th place finishes in the PL, our small squad finally capitulated with injuries in the 3rd PL season. Remember, in that third PL season we were in 6th place when Raul cracked his skull at Arsenal. By any yardstick, Nuno’s reign at Wolves was a success. Plus, Nuno is a prince amongst men. His massive donation to charity was typical of his compassion and generosity. Time to welcome him back home to Wolverhampton.
The hunt goes on……..from Europa League Quater Finalist to laughing stock in 2 years now we are scratching around trying to find a decent manager from the has been of football management…….the words ” tits up ” springs to mind.
And who in they right mind with any pride will want to be secound choice.
Well ped i can assure you i have watched every second of every wolves game this season home and away with the help of a certain box i purchased and you are absolutely correct the long balls into podence were ridiculous but thats how far we have slipped …some glorious midfield possession slick passing great movement then……nothing so ..a long ball to a five foot bloke in total frustration and that is why bruno got the sack because he had no solution to the problem
Just a few short months ago we were serious european football contenders then for some reason none of us understand the wheels fell off ..what the hell happened ?
We are not in a relegation battle at this moment in time but if we havent sorted some points out by the start of the world cup break we could well be.
I reiterate.. we need a top manager with a proper plan not someone who reads winston churchill speeches to his troops before they go out to battle but someone with a footballing brain who understands the intricate tactics that can win games against equally clever managers and equally clever players .
The days of climbing out of the trenches and waving the flag screaming have long gone this is now a complicated game of chess which requires brains not bravado
this will require someone from the new era not someone from the past .
The dinosaurs are not extinct in football just yet but they will never survive in the most competitive football league in the world and we are in it and we need to stay in it.
I don’t disagree with most of your comments,Spikey, but like a few others on here I differ strongly with your views on Dyche. No point reiterating the pertinent comments made by Kendal and Hindsight above. Hope you are able to check out Fabio on your box tonight. I’ll be doing just that.
Oh dear,Fabio. Man up and face up to free kicks. If you turn your back on the ball the fre kick taker might exploit the gap you are leaving. As Behrahma just has! At least you’ve made some nice lay offs.
Just seen it on video. Hope the dislikers are disliking Fabio’s pathetic attempt to face up to the free kick.
My guess is that they haven’t even seen it Hindsight. Go on folks, it’s out there.
Anyway it could all be irrelevant if NUNO returns lets hope it happens !
Yes strong rumours on twitter Nuno is on his way back. There is even an official Wolves tweet about Chem Campbell. In the top left corner there is a picture of a mortar board hat (remember Nuno honorary degree) and right arrow pointing to a Wolf motif. Very interesting.
Nuno come back. We are fans who want the passion, team spirit and love for the club we had.
You rarely get second chances in life but Wolverhampton has the chance. Take it. Let the good times roll again
Ex managerrs are like ex girlfriends its never as good as the first time. Nuno’s had his time and what a time but that’s history we’ve moved on.
Speak for yourself. I have a few exes I’d still like to shag…
Nuno had another dream…
To overhaul a team..
Why not?
At least e know the abilities of nuno.
In terms of reunifying fans with the club and galvanising the team Nuno would be a very good appointment. However, when he was sacked it did appear that he had run his course at Wolves. The mitigation is that he was not backed financially but whether the team he would be working with now would fit with his preferred style of play is questionable. For example, Coady was his lynchpin and he was not a big fan of kilman if I remember- hardly selecting him although he rarely put a foot wrong. Interesting to think where we might be now if Fosun had backed him financially but unfortunately we will never know the answer to that. Will he be given a second chance? It seems he is keen if press reports are to be believed but will he sign up to conditions Shi might impose?
If i was Nuno i would insist shi and sellars were booted out before i would return.
