Less than two years ago, Steve Morgan vowed we’d never be caught in a relegation dogfight after we secured our Premier League survival by the skin of our teeth.

With a refusal to invest a fraction of the millions he has since pocketed in transfer fees, Premier League payments, Sky TV cash and commercial revenue during the January or loan transfer windows, League One is now looming large.
Even the injury to Sako – our player of the season and sole attacking outlet – failed to rouse the owner into action, who continues to impose the same leadership mantra as he adopted when he parted with a tenner.
Watch on passively, spin out an idle platitude or two and hope for another Merlin.
You get what you deserve in football and when Sylvan Ebanks Blake broke his leg at St Andrews after the loan window shut, Steve Morgan was handed everything he was possibly entitled to, even if the rest of us weren’t.
As we walked in the Valley of the shadow of death, I took a look at my watch and realized there was seconds left.
Then Charlton scored and I screamed for so long that, even my missus thinks that my mind is gone…
…I digress.
The lyrics will be replaced with something more colourful this time next week if we suffer another defeat like this.
Our lumbering, carcass of a club disappoints most at the very moment you think the pain can’t get any worse.
Managers come, managers go, but the one-paced clodhoppers that got them the sack continue to blacken a league that we were promised we’d never be in to begin with.
Dean Saunders will be next, despite never being given a single penny to spend on a transfer fee since being here.
Merlin the Magician he clearly ain’t, but to ask him to do anything with this group of washed-up, leaden footed failures is asking a heck of a lot when the majority were part of the fourth worst Premier League team ever. The better ones left for untold millions before he got here.
With no pace, skill or ounce of devilment on offer from a thinning pool of players – a pool that Jez Moxey presumably still thinks is too big – we were virtually incapable of ever winning today.
A fantastic work rate and every man behind the ball bar Doyle meant we didn’t deserve to lose either.
Dean Saunders pointed to Karl Henry’s 45 yard effort that hit the woodwork and two lucky goals to seal our fate.
With a boss by the name of Steve Morgan, you should know that fortune favours the brave, Dean.
View from the away end
Thanks to London-based Super Kev Doyle for sending in his view of events from the Valley:

In many ways this felt like the archetypal Wolves away day. Baseless pre-match optimism, a large and vocal gold and black contingent, the occasional heartening period of play without any meaningful end product, and ultimately sloppy mistakes bringing about eventual failure.
As everybody probably already expected, it comes down to the last two games with Wolves hoping that flashes of brilliance can make up for prolonged malaise. And yet at half time today, things seemed satisfactory. A team unchanged from Tuesday had easily nullified any attacking threat from the hosts, with Robinson again looking assured at full back and the deep sitting Henry and Doumbia giving our centre backs the protection they desperately need. Ricardo Fuller was expending much more energy on giving away fouls and shouting at the ref than posing any sort of goal threat, and Henry hit the bar from 35 yards with a dipping half volley! I promise there are no typos in that sentence.
Wolves seemed able to absorb early pressure in the second half but it didn’t take too long before the usual firing of gun at foot moment, with a poor corner somehow skipping past the first man (Hunt, I think), ping-ponging around the six yard box and ultimately resting in the net, with Dorian Dervite beating Dorus De Vries. Before long though a Delap-esque long throw from Robinson was flicked on by Johnson and flicked in by Doyle, who deserved a reward for a hard-working yet too often isolated shift up front. And although this proved to be our only effort on target, we seemed in the ascendancy for the next 20 minutes.
On the occasions that Doumbia was able to get the ball down, rather than jog around with his neck craned skywards, the Charlton midfield were troubled by his driving runs forward. Hunt was as busy as ever, nearly forcing his way through on goal by sheer bloody-mindedness, only to be booked seemingly harshly for contesting a 50-50 with their goal keeper. Sigurdarson and Ward worked hard on their respective flanks, but without a real goal threat up front a lot of promising build up play failed to trouble their defence. How I longed for Ebanks.
And with the minutes ticking down and the game opening up, our exposed defence was yet again unable to cope with a counter attack which saw a shot blocked only to briefly delay the inevitable. As with Huddersfield, the introduction of a mobile front man (this time Jonathan Obika) proved our downfall, vindicating the shout of the bloke behind me when he replaced the dreadful Fuller, of “No! Leave Him On!” Saunders reacted to their winner by bringing on Danny Baath up front, reinforcing the notion that if we were to equalise it wouldn’t be thanks to anybody’s feet. This never happened, and not for the first time this season there was a sense that the opposition hadn’t really had to find a way to win, as we have become proficient at finding a way to lose.

Well done Thomas, I don’t expect many of us were expecting you to post tonight.
Not only is it a depressing task but you must struggle at times to put an original twist to yet another defeat, still you’ve succeeded which is more than we can say for the team.
There is nothing to be said that has not been said so many times over the last twelve months, apart from honestly admitting that we actually deserve to go down.
It’s Ben’s post mate, not mine. But thanks for the comment as it alerted me to the error! 🙂
Great Blogg Tom, agree totally Ledbury. Just another case of Wolves flattering to deceive. What you say about Morgan is also spot on Tom it’s as if, dare I say it he is preparing to sell up thats the only explanation I can see for justifying if you could call it that the lack of investment in the transfer market/window. I dare say we wil beat Burnley to prolong the agony and then lose to Brighton and that will be it League One football next season carnt wait for this most depressing of seasons for decades to be over.
We still might stay up, but every thing you say is so true Thomas.
I’ve just been doing me sums … And I think we may well be buggered. Even with us picking up an optimistic 4 points I have us going down on goal difference. My prediction, following a look at the remaining fixtures for clubs at the bottom:
Huddersfield. 57 points
Blackburn 56 points
Peterborough 55 points
Sheffield W 55 points
Wolves 55 points – relegated
Barnsley 51 points – relegated
Bristol C 41 points – relegated
To stand half a chance we need to stuff Burnley. At the moment Peterborough and Sheffield W will probably finish with a better goal difference. Lets all hope for a miracle!
Had another look, Peterborough v Sheffield W is a key fixture – if Wednesday can beat Peterborough they save themselves – and do us a huge favour…
Firstly, in my original comment I meant thanks to Ben for the post.
Just to say that I hope we stay up, but either way, the problem will remain.
I’ve said it here before but I will repeat myself.
We are no longer Wolves FC but Redrow FC.
We are a subsidiary of a conglomerate.
To the main company whether we play in Div One, Three or the Championship, is neither here nor there, because the main value of Wolves to Redrow is the property.
When Morgan cries that he’d ‘step away if the fans want it’, he will.
After all, whoever ‘takes over’ Wolves from him will have to pay Redrow for that new stadium and training facilities, etc…
It is a ‘scam’ that Moxey must have been in on from the beginning to convince Sir Jack that Morgan’s tenner had value and is why he is over seeing the death of Wolves…
This time last year we were in the Premiership, now we need to beat Brighton and Burnley to stay in the championship which seems unlikely…
Good luck Redrow, I shall spend the summer with the ghost of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Listened on the radio.
Sounded a crappy game that could have gone either way. It’s probably telling we came out on the wrong side of the result though.
A real kick in the bollocks because a point would have been valuable given the other scores.
Could do with Millwall beating Blackburn on Tuesday because they’re still within reach on 53, whereas Millwall on 55 are probably just about safe.
We look battered and defeated, but if we can dig in against Burnley, who knows?
I think League One is our destiny, but it’s not over yet.
As you often say to me Ben, I’m morbidly curious as much as anything about what we’ll see at Molineux next Saturday.
beautifully written if very gut wrenchingly depressing.. we are completely lost in an ever increasing football wilderness . although terrifying-i now believe the only way to purge the club of the leeches that have left us here is to enter division 3
Poor owner – poor decisions, poor manager, poor tactics, poor team, poor players pat their best, going into a poor league. Its been going for three years now.We are where we deserve to be! Positives? Great fans, guess i will see Wolves at Brentford next year, just hope Saunders is gone and Steve Morgan realises he couldnt pick a good manager and leaves it to domeone else.Feeling sad at moment, but comfort myself that worst things happen in life, Wolves being relegated is a minor emotional blip in my life ultimately. I will publish again later highlighting the changes i would like to see happen at wolves to prevent this happening again and to ensure we get promoted from league 1, also i will highlight the players i would like to se go. As for manager, he must have an excellent record at league 1 and championship.
Last summer someone asked Tim Nash on twitter,’will the club spend all the Fletcher,Jarvis and Kightly money on new players’.Nashy replied he was not certain, because there was a debate about that going on at that time. It seems to me there was a deliberate policy made at Board level to not spend all the money on players. My guess is a chunk of this money has been used to pay for the training ground and museum. But it sadly looks like that decision is the one that will get us relegated and put us in the history books for all the wrong reasons. When Fletcher was sold it should have been obvious that a quality replacement striker was needed.According to tonight’s report in the Telegraph we were toothless today, and that in reality has been the story all season.Make no mistake it is not lack of effort that is the problem it is a lack of quality.
Ben, I also mean’t to say, what a well written, gut wrenching and true blog. Let us hope for a miracle .
Thanks mate. Very kind. It is difficult trying to come up with something original when the subject matter is anything but. ‘What a mess’ screeched Paul Franks when Charlton scored the winner. I’m not sure if he was commentating on the game or the state of the club. Both, probably.
Just back from the match and spot on comments chaps. My first glimpse of Wolves since the away defeat at Barnsley, and its clear since then the inadequacies of the players, is matched only by the inadequacies of the manager.
In the modern game if you play with a lone striker, you need to hit teams on the break, with players bombing forward wiith pace and movement. Saunders though picks the lumbering carthorse Ward to play wide, so whenever we went forward we were always a man short and our foward runners were easy picking for the home defence. The other tactic was to lump high balls forward when we don`t have a target man, so more easy meat for their centrehalves. We were always on the back foot, and when we moved Siggy up front, and far too late Hammill came on for Ward, our only tactic remained hopeful hoofs into the box.
It seems Saunders doesn`t understand the concept of pass and move, and keep the ball on the deck, maybe we were practising for next season after all.
After berrating Ward again for poor play – the chap in front of me said, its not Ward`s fault – he doesnt pick the side and he should have been moved on two years ago. My fellow fan was right of course, This comes back to the point you make in the blog about the players, and in fact what Solbakken said when he was sacked, changing managers doesn`t solve the fundemental problems at the club, maybe our impending relegation will force the changes on Morgan.
spot om mark..in days of old pre anti-biotics you chopped the offending article off for the sake of the rest of the poor soul. if morgan wont make the correct decisions it certainly WILL be forced on him by dropping down a league . how arrogant is the man to not be able to do it the easy way? i now see him as the mc donalds clown and deservedly so looking at his record.
Looks to me like the fat lady is finally singing.
I’m hoping I’m wrong, but our zombie of a team seems finally to be shuffling off towards League 1 football.
If ever there were blueprints on how NOT to run a football club I reckon we’d be up there with the likes of Pompey (and at least they got an FA cup win out of it).
Even my wife, a small Chinese woman who isn’t really a fan of football, could see that we have ballsed it up at every touch and turn…shameful.
I have to agree we deserve to get relegated (managment, players) fans no. Most of the probems you see week in week out. we are unable to keep and control the ball for any decent period of time. We have had no midfield creativity and back bone for 2 years now. The fat lady is clearing her throat. We need somebody at the club who understands the modern game and what we need todo to compete at a decent level, not sure it will happen, sad days. Looking to create histiry for all the wrong reasons. Yet anothe one of our bogey team looms to seal our fate on the last day of the season.
Like your photo !
Very poor defending = 2 goals.
In my younger days I would have been angry, very angry with the way Wolves have played, not just this season but over the last 3 seasons. I am struggling to remember when we last played a decent game of football but I can’t. We have overachieved in the Prem and now we are underachieving in the Championship. We are poor and have been for years so I should not be surprised at were we currently stand, it’s were we deserve to be.
In the autumn of my life sadness and disappointment has replaced the anger I used to feel.
My (ex) wife used to say to me ‘its only a game for god’s sake’, If only that were true.
A point would have been ok today but basic errors again let us down. Was it Doyle at the front post who completely missed his kick to allow the ball in for the first goal? Also second goal good move from Charlton down the left, but when the ball is cut back into the box there is no one anywhere near Green who getsa a clear shot away, De Vries parries and then no one is near Obika for the follow up.
Bunley should be a winnable game but a switch to Hammill or Dicko (why was he signed if we don’t give him a chance?) instead of Ward would show a bit more intent. Can see us getting nothing at Brighton. 3 points could be enough but l am not holding my breath.
Like some others l do not fault the players effort (except O’Hara) but their confidence is shot and players like Ward and Henry should have been long gone. Maybe Mick will take pity on them as l cannot think who elso would pay their wages.
All fairly depressing!
another fantastic footballing decision signing dicko not unlike fawlty towers ! with basil as the owner and manuel as manager what can we expect ?
Wolves seem to be dedicated – dedicated in committing the perfect suicide as a football club, that is.
Was following the results on the internet and a point looked grand. Then it’s 2-1. Usually I’m this calm type of a guy, being over 35 and all. Much to my amazement this time I grabbed a beer bottle and threw it into the outside wall.
Stood petrified for about 10 seconds, went back inside and cranked up the volume on the Joy Division CD I was playing. “From Safety To Where”, anyone?
Thanks for the blogs Thomas and Ben. Heartfelt regards to you and all fellow posters.
Less than two years ago, Steve Morgan vowed we’d never be caught in a relegation dogfight after we secured our Premier League survival by the skin of our teeth.
Ben I remember that word for word and can’t express in any terms how much it saddens me now. I was on the south coast yesterday shirt on and scarf in the car for the return trip sadly nothing to celebrate. Whether we survive or not there has to be a clean out and fire sale from the top down. We will only be able to rebuild with the kids as no one will want to sign for us with the way things are. Angry is not even close.
i dont think even just playing the kids will make a jot of difference now or ever untill the club is turned upside down shaken violently and rebuilt properly with football being the top priority and removing houses and egos and pensions from being so bloody important !! morgan its time to get real with the fans and stop fannying about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
While hindsight is almost always 20/20 you begin to wonder how you can consistently get it so wrong. Mick’s sacking was either 9 months too late or 13 games too early depending upon how you want to look at it. TC’s appointment was just plain wrong; it was more of the same but without the motivation. Solbakken’s sacking was just plain wrong. He was only in the job for 6 months and M&M were badly wrong to not back him once they had appointed him. Deano’s appointment was wrong and you wonder what we were thinking about offering him the job. Results reflect that, our style of play reflects that and his constant burbling in the E&S show that he is completely out of his depth. Nice guy, excellent player and all that but IMO not the man to take us forward. How can you get it so wrong, time after time? Get a director of football in for goodness sake.
We may not be relegated yet. Burnley are definitely beatable, especially without Austin. Brighton may have a play off place secured and take their foot of the throttle or give fringe players a run out. Other results can go our way. If we survive I fear it will be more of the same next season. I doubt there will be a massive clear out.
If we do suffer relegation we will still be left with the same old faces, the same old failures that no one else wants, minus some of our brighter sparks like Sako and Siggy. We’ll probably have the same manager but with two consecutive relegations on his CV. I doubt he’ll get sacked because that means M&M will have to admit a mistake in sacking Staale and appointing him. We’ll be hoping, rather than expecting, to be battling for a play-off place with Crawley and Exeter when a year ago we were in the prem.
With good management at the top we’d be less than a year into Solbakken’s minimum two year plan. We would have strengthened in the January window and got rid of some dead wood as well. Perhaps we’d be looking forward to fighting for a play-off place over the last few games . . . . . . or at the very least, looking forward to getting shot of even more dross and bringing in more quality in the summer. We’d be looking forward to next season and watching a team who were capable of playing the sort of football that will bring success. We’d have a plan which is something I don’t see at the moment.
I could just about handle relegation if it had come under SS. You have to dismantle before you can rebuild and most of all you have to have a plan. I’d like to think that he did. Now I can see us continuing to struggle in the wilderness of non premier football under Dean; bumbling from one disaster to the next with hoof and hope our plan A, B and C. Like Sevlov, I am in the autumn of my years and am fed up with disappointment. I want something to look forward to.
Great blog as always Ben. Thanks to you and Thomas for all your efforts.
Couldn’t agree more. The thing that seems to sum it up for me is the refusal to play Peszko, presumably because we would trigger some sort of clause in the loan contract. I mean we wouldn’t want to go buying a skilful winger would we?
Yeah, have to agree. The strategic management decision making at this club has been nothing short of catastrophic. I do wonder what life would have been like now under SS – I too could at least see wherever we might have been as part of a grand rebuilding plan. Now, I fear us beating Burnley and somehow beating the drop and carrying on with the same old hoof-ball, or dropping down a league with a manager who frankly hasn’t a clue about tactics on the field. The clue is in the name – I’ve supported Wolves for decades – but I have never felt so low about the club as I do now. Where the hell do we go from here?
Couldn’t agree more, Steppenwolf, and a ‘like’ is not enough, just had to post an appreciation of your perceptive summary. Why aren’t the Express and Star saying the same things. Whose side are they on?
They are on the side of the advertisers
The fence as usual scared in case they lose there freebies heaven forbid they criticise Morgan and Moxey there just misunderstood by the fans and doing there best, yeah right Mr Swain and co.
100% Steppenwolfe!
Exactly what I think. May I care to add that though I am not sticking up for Morgan and Moxey, on the pitch is where football is played. Thats where goals are scored and conceded and points won and lost. These players have seen off 4 managers. All comments in the E and S from our players a few weeks/months ago seem to point to them still thinking they are too good to go down. Now its eerily quiet by their standards, except the odd fighting words.
The only two reasons I can fathom for Deano’s appointment is a “young hungry manager” (which is fair enough, and something we have been crying out for…but we had that in Stale) and the biggest reason he is a yes man. Lokk at what happened whilst he was in charge of Doncaster, he barely picked the team.
Sad thing is, we could win both games and still go down!
The other sad thing is Morgan didnt pay attention in the summer after Hunt’s goal to survive, didnt that winter transfer window, didnt in the summer after we went down, and didnt in this window either. Maybe relegation will hit M and M in the pockets and force a huge change. I agree that if we stay up it will be more of the same…personally I think we are doomed one way or the other. Only a relegation will be strong enough to possibley force action
Saunders
Thoroughly miserable.
After a complete lack of investment we’ve just rotted and rotted. Complete sucker punch to concede in extra time but at the level we should be more than able to keep it up.
Morgans got some serious explaining to do.
See you in League One boys and girls. It’s looking pretty inevitable now.
Never has my display picture here been so more relevant. Feel completely squished by this club this season 🙁
Moron and Greaseballs job is almost done. Been waiting for the press release to say “we have identified some land and will start building the new stadium in…..”.
Fancy a house on Cowshed Lane?
In the run up to us getting relegated from the prem, we were repeatedly told that if we did go down then we wouldn’t need to sell anybody. On top of this, the manager would also be armed with the famous ‘war chest’ to come back up with. As it went, we actually sold around £25m worth of players immediately and only spent a fraction of that. Ever since then the fat bloke has pleaded poverty in one breath while telling us what a well run club we are in the next breath. We were also told that all of the money for ground and training ground redevelopment was ring fenced and had no bearing on transfer incomings/outgoings. Deliberate lies and contradictions from the fat man (working under direct instructions) to string the fans along while they line their own pockets. Morgan and Moxey-You have brought shame to our great club and should resign immediately before you are hounded out and the situation becomes much much more unpleasant for you.
I am speechless (again). How many games have we drawn or lost by conceeding in the last few minutes. Okay, we have rescued the odd one, but I just knew we were going to lose.
Even two wins may not be enough now; but then what? This blog has it bang on. What can SM say this time, after being proved wrong on so many counts on his previous statements. If we stay up by some miracle, then the great escape and not spending will be justified. If we go down, we wont have the revenue to spend (supposedly). But I’m only a humble working class bloke who likes his football, what do I know?
So how much has this debacle cost us? Never mind the profit we did make. Never mind being the ‘best in the League’ nonsense. We may have turned a profit in, but that profit is way down on what it could have been, for a modest financial outlay. But I’m only a humble working class bloke who likes his football, what do I know?
I know that despite some of us being called happy clappers and trying to remain positive, I know that despite some of us coming across as doom mongers, we all love this great club. And whatever division we end up in, despite the incompetence of which ever muppet pulls the strings etc, we will continue to love this club.
Very shortly, the post-mortems will start; should we have done this, or should we have spent that etc. Problem with a post-mortem, is the results are never learned from (despite being told otherwise). But I’m only a humble working class bloke who likes his football, what do I know?
I know that I will continue to support this great club, and whichever side of the divide we are, whatever we think of the management and the players, thousands of you will continue to be with me week in, week out. Why?
Because we’re Wolves ay we?
I have had a sleep and a cup of tea and i am less upset now, sort of! Well miracles may happen but hard facts generally win the day. Chances of staying in Championship-well, they are remote. I am a loyal fan, and i watched Wolves in the old cow shed when a certain Mr Bull started to light up the place under the management of a certain Mr Turner.
I will continue to watch Wolves in League One but Mr Morgan and Mr Moxey have to earn it. My loyalty is free, but my respect is earned. I will not respect a management team that come out with synthetic concerns and platitudes and a plethora of ideas that are never followed up or acted on-for example, a director of football. ITS BEEN AMATEUR HOUR!! ITS BEEN AWFUL!! I would be sacked at work if my performanace was like theirs!!I MR Morgan, I will not put a penny in your pocket if you continue to believe that the only footballing ideas, opinions, svengalis’, oracles, whatever, out there are the opinions of Liverpool FC or their ex-players. I have had enough. Step back and appoint a DOF.(actually i thought Stale would have made a good one). This DOF needs a list/stats of every player/manager/ assistant manager out there and support staff, what they earn and what there contracts are. Same for players, That way we can avoid the debacle in appointing players , managers and staff. In other words, step back Steve.
I don’t know Jez’s worth or role, but not to have a plan even in the event we get relegated to the vauxhall confernce mens you aren’t earning your huge wage. I am lucky to clear £1600 a month but i plan and do a 500 mile round trip to watch, it grates you seem to be not as organised.
We have been patient but get rid of Dean saunders. He is yesterday’s man and so is his football. This year is the worse football i have ever seen, we are going to be relegated because we deserve to be. I think it was right to sack Stale but to appoint Dean Saunders.?? It’s interesting to see that Doncaster missed him not a jot. These are hard facts, work on them, put infrastructure in place, cos i have had a bellyfull and my patience is thin. Finally, start all of the above now, starting with a manager, coaching and fitness staff. Except you will lose money next season but try to keep our best players, it will be cheaper in the long run. Lets hit the ground running in League One. I am realist but is our CEO? Get real, kick some ass, get shot, get the best in available to replace them and lets start again. Sorry long blog but have no-where else to vent my frustration!!
Deal, really don’t think things will get any better. Morgan wants the assets which is now the land Molineaux stands on….Is there really any other explanation?
The more this debacle goes on I can’t see any other logical reason.
you and me both ! i admire your passion and loyalty unlike those in charge!
the two clowns at the helm, moron and pigfucker are responsible for us doing a portsmouth – but we win, cos we have dont it with a big fat healthy bank account – that is some feat.
I do believe that Wolves have done enough to guarantee their position in the championship next season and it is now time for the club to look forward to a promising season next year. I believe with some money from the chairman coupled with his talent for spotting a quality bargain, Dean Saunders will not only steady the ship but will have Wolves fighting for an automatic promotion spot next year for the promised land.
Not a great season this year but exciting times ahead
You’re out then?
with comlete respect edward i think i hear the men in white coats…. none of what you said is true. we are almost gone and dean isnt turning it round and i really cant understand how you can even have thought that let alone written it..:(
Good to hear an alternative point of view Edward but ‘not a great season’ arent you being a bit negative ?
I suspect Morgan as he tucks into his meat and two veg ( one of those Moxey) at his Carden Park Hotel will have no shame. Shame on destroying the good name of Wolverhampton Wanderers, leaving us in this pathetic position with quite frankly a pathetic team.
I pray in a years time the writing isn’t on the wall where we could be
playing my local team….
Plaudits go to you Ben and Super Kev for your heartwrenching and gutripping write ups on the match and the state of the Wolves.
I am now doubly depressed.
Myself and the present Mrs DOOGooder have spent a large part of the morning trying, in vain, to get Glastonbury tickets.
So, to cheers ourselves up, we are trying to book in at a nice hotel next weekend for a break. It’s one we’ve been to before – decent room, great food, nice position, overlooking a lovely park…. and just a stone’s throw from the local football ground.
We might even take in the match if the team is playing at home.
It’s called ‘A Park View Hotel’ Park Road West and it’s in…….. Oh! No!………. Wolverhampton!!
Never fear fellow bloggers.
The Wiltshire crew is riding to the rescue!
Three points are guaranteed next week – or Moxey gets it from the wife!!!
Sounds a great package DOOGooder why bother with the Stones at Glastonbury – iconic to the chronic !
Bloody hell Doog, me and the present Mrs. M are booked into the very same hotel!
Funny how you can change the wife but not your team.
Who’dathoughtit!
I’ve just confirmed our booking for Friday and Saturday night.
See you there.
Mine’s a large one!! (Har Har!)
Uncanny eh? We’re just booked in for Saturday. Drink after the match sounds good.
Martin, I know we have indulged in oral intercourse over the Wolves Blog a few times (I think I feel an OOH! Matron! coming on) but it’ll be good to see you and the present Mrs M on Saturday.
Are you travelling far to witness the last rites of our Championship Season?
Doog, we’ll be traveling up from Abergavenny in South Wales Kay’s home town. Don’t know what you have planned but perhaps we could meet in the hotel bar after the match.
Sounds good to me.
I don’t know how we’ll recognise each other.
I thought about wearing a pink carnation but I expect the long and tear stained faces will be a dead giveaway.
Don’t forget i’ve seen your Animals video(not to mention you and the current Mrs.Doogooder on holiday in Greece!) and so together with your Wolves bobble hat and scarf and suicidal demeanour, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
As for me, my Avatar was taken on my 60th birthday a couple of years ago. I’m the one on the right and Steve Bull’s on the left. It doesn’t do me justice, i’m actually uglier than that.
The current Mrs. M doesn’t like football, she prefers the game played by men with funny shaped balls. I think that’s what she liked about me. I mean i played rugby at school, of course. She only comes because she feels sorry for me being a Wolves supporter. And she likes being taken out for dinner.
Looking forward to it. It won’t matter who wins, it’s going to be fun.
i’m going to Glastonbury, should do a good job of forgetting all about the Wolves there…
Have a great time you lucky chap!
And give my love to Mick… Jagger not McCarthy.
Whether Wolves finish 21st or 22nd the man partial to savoury pasties must vacate this May.
A skin of the teeth avoidance of relegation is still a possibility.
We’ve go to do better than both Peterborough and Barnsley over two games.
How far we’ve dropped (again!) for us all to expect that we won’t be able to achieve such a mighty footballing exploit.
Well put KP. If we can’t better P and B in just 2 games then we do indeed deserve to be relegated, even though that prospect fills me with horror and deep sadness.
This seems to be reminiscent of the ’84 era when WW was brought to its knees.
i was looking at mr morgan in the sunday times rich list and asking myself, not for the first time, how can anyone, who is in a position to make a difference, preside over the cataclysmic decline of this once-proud and noble football club ?
like thousands of others, Wolves have been a constant in my life for longer than i care to remember; so close to my heart as to be part of the fabric of my very being. and they have now become nothing more than a byword for mismanagement, empty promises, deceit, and disdain for the very people that have revered them. a laughing stock in the world of football.
there is a need for the very people responsible for this supersonic decline to hang their heads in shame, and to consider the proud heritage they have sabotaged, and provide the root and branch changes that were promised before, so that something worthwhile can be salvaged from this wreckage.
Superb Mike but don’t hold your breath. Moxey is prepared to accept the prestige, plaudits and salary of a CEO but not the responsibility for failure. According to him he’s just a scapegoat. Laughable.
Well said Mike. How on earth could they get us into this position and not even bring in a decent striker before the end of the loan deadline.Three years of profits in the Premier, over £31m by the football side of things, selling players in the summer for £24m plus and spending less than £10m on replacements, receiving £16m in parachute payments(which the likes of Charlton and Huddersfiield didn’t get, never mind Barnsley etc), yet they couldn’t address our problems via the transfer market. They have no excuses, either they don’t care or are totally incompetent (probably both).
Relegation has been on the cards since October. the 25-1 (and 40-1 on offer a month later) looked a good bet to me then and look even better now.
There are players in the club who want the team relegated. Johnson has done absolutely nothing useful since the day he walked in. He has wanted this club relegated and he’s managed it twice.
Relegation = Bankruptcy. There is not enough income to pay the players and Morgan is not allowed to put money in under the new rules.
Its over people. It isn’t Division one next season , it’s the History books for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Morgan has managed what the Bhatti brothers could not and has sent the club into oblivion.
Thank you and goodnight.
The club is rotten. Anyone who has worked in a failing business can see the telltale signs at wolves. I was talking to a steward – wolves supporter all his life, who said it is a horrible
place to work. He used to love coming into work. Now he and the others hate it. They are treated like shit. The customer service is shocking. This all stems from the top. Morgan loves bricks and mortar. Moxey loves numbers. These are two items that are very cold. have no emotion. The business represents the owners and their personalities. Everyone on the board is either construction
or finance. The club is losing life long fans attending games because of the scrimping of moxey and morgan. The musuem. £7. Who ever came up with the idea of charging fans, esp season ticket holders is an imbecile. Where is the premiership centre forward that we were going to get in the loan period when they were save. Then all of a sudden, they were too expensive. We sign dicko! Every word that comes out of the club is a lie. Morgan has got the land he wanted on the back of owning wolves. Our council fell for his lies to sell him the land. (Our council has to be one of the worse in the country just look at the state of wton town centre. When was the
last time anyone went for a night out in wton
town centre). We will be relegated and morgan is lucky it will happen away from home on the last day.
Moxey is a stuck up fat prick…he has no clue how the club should be run…has no interaction with the staff and spends his life living like a footsie top 100 CEO.. Dick head…we need a new CEO that likes people football and the history of the club..this prick is an arrogant fat tosser.. I have heard all the same from several members of staff Morgan needs t o open is eyes this man is a bad egg and needs fucking off
Sack the fat man for a brighter future
Will be interesting to see who goes and who stays got a sinking feeling J****** H**** and O’**** could be leading us out again. Reading will probably offer G***** on a free.
So here are my questions.
We signed Dicko, or whatever his name is, and he hasn’t kicked a ball in anger yet.
Does that mean we don’t have to pay him?
Why did we sign him?
How come thousands and thousands of “ordinary folk” i.e. us fans, can see the glaringly obvious deficiencies in the club from top to bottom, but the ones who are paid to be professional, and know all things football, cannot?
This is what baffles me.
Doing a post mortem will not help, coz that is only done on dead bodies…….we still have a glimmer of a pulse!
But being a Wolves fan is far more interesting than supporting the shit, look what an anticlimax their season has become!!
A strange one to be sure. Moxey and Deano stated that they wouldn’t bring anyone in unless they were better than what we had. They brought Dicko in – therefore he must be better than what we had. So, if he’s better than what we have why hasn’t he played?
Then there’s Pzesko. Forget the bollox about having to pay more if he plays “x” games – the guy is on loan – Deano just doesn’t appear to rate him highly enough to even put him in the squad, despite all our injury problems. If it was a question of finance we could just send him back to Cologne – so why the fc*k are we holding onto him if we are never going to play him?
‘… the ones who are paid to be professional, and know all things football, cannot?’
You’ve inadvertantly hit the nail on the head Clive. There is nobody on the Board who has a football background. How can they try to run a football club when all those taking decisions have absolutely no experience in the field concerned ? No wonder its a shambles.
Too depressed to contemplate commenting on yesterday till now…with time to reflect the obvious hits me between the eyes…our defence has been shocking for three seasons now and the big signing Johnson is probably the most awkward looking £7million footballer of all time.. We could all blame the players, owner bad karma as we avoided relegation with minutes to go and deserved the drop then ( thanks hunt again).. But to me the manager of the club the advisor and captain is the CEO, his decisions, demeanour and attitude stinks,, if the fans knew the work I put in they wouldn’t hate me is basically the crap he churns out when he speaks…I don’t give a fuck if he works 22 hours a day (all though looking at he fat tosser he eats for at leat 10 hours) . He is Incompetent out of touch and personally driving this club into hell in a hand cart… What does he have to do to be binned? Attempt to murder Morgan?….he thinks we have too big a squad.. Wanker
Sack the fat man for a brighter future
Excellent intro Thomas. I couldn’t have put it better myself !!!!
I spotted quite a while ago that SM was a snake in the grass and like all successful businessmen he is always on the lookout for the next business venture.
Make no mistake he will have made a lot of money during his time with us.
His statements, comments and hasty outbursts have helped to destabilise the impression of WW being a well lead club from the top and have been nothing more than a catalogue of lies and deceit, “smoke and mirrors” at every turn.
Make no mistake HE holds the purse strings not his lacky JM who is doing what he’s paid to do, keeping the club in the black, which he has done. However the profits are dropping drastically season on season which means at some point we will be in the red unless SM or JM or both initiate an exciting change of direction in their management style and strategy.
It’s pointless blaming the 4 managers as none of them have been given the financial support they were promised and not wanting to rake up old stories, but where has all the money gone ????? and why hasn’t the driftwood been ruthlessly discarded from this dead squad ??????
I actually thought that despite his shortcomings, MMc would have kept us up.
I never thought that TC would.
I thought that SS was a bold move and then
I hoped that DS was up to the challenge but unfortunately there are 2 factors common to all 4 managers and I’ve just mentioned both in the previous paragraphs.
All 4 managers have had the rug pulled from under their feet.
This second relegation if and when it happens (correct me if I’m wrong ) means that we are going through the same process that happened in ’82, ’83 and ’84 prior to the BHATTI boys era and we all know where that pushed us.
I’m still hoping for 2 more wins but I’m not holding my breath. This season seems to be going on and on and on and on and on and ………..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
As ever UTW !!!!!!
I agree with everything you said Cwmbranwulf apart from one point.
I’m certainly not defending Morgan or Moxey for the dire position we find ourselves in but
Mick McCarthy was, to be fair to SM & JM, given a shedload of money – around £40 million I think – and, arguably, didn’t spend it particularly wisely.
The other managers have reaped the reward of his profligacy in that the terrible twins are simply too scared to risk another wodge of dosh and would rather see us be the best run club in The Conference than take the gamble of going the way of Portsmouth, and the like.
Conference or Portsmouth – Surely there has to some middle ground – Swansea, Cardiff, West Ham, Southampton, Stoke and so on.
Agree with MMc money – we spent a lot more than most in our short premier tenure. We also recouped some which wasn’t reinvested in players. I would still argue that it is poor management to apply restrictions on subsequesnt managers as a result of MMc shortcomings in the transfer market – the very managers they appointed to replace MMc and his shortcomings.
We’re in absolute agreement here Steppenwolfe.
If you have convictions, have the courage to back them.
Can we put a bid in for Suarez – now SEB’s gone we need more bite up front?
I hope he wins the PFA award …. it’ll be priceless!
I went yesterday with 4 mates and we had a good day out and several jars of ale round London Bridge before and after the game. That was the highlight. Sitting out in the sun with a few beers. The match was low quality and to be honest we deserved a draw. Lady luck deserting us again late on. looking at the table now, I believe 54 points will be enough. Can we dredge up a win at home to Burnley ? That should be enough. Close on 2000 Wolves fans there yesterday and the club doesn’t really deserve such dedication. You look at Stoke, Swansea, Norwich and you do wonder at the leadership at our club as to why we are so undeniably hopeless at the moment. Please can we win just one more game ???
Wolves is my “big club” that I support and love and Northampton Town is my “small club” that I grew up following and loving. Lots of football fans have two teams like that. Not a lot of those fans can say that both their teams play in League 1 (if the Cobblers get promoted). Great… Don’t know whether to laugh or scream until I pass out.
We have Division 3 written all over us – thoroughly depressing.
Looking forward, I wonder if Martin O’Neill could be persuaded to take the club by the balls as a longterm project?
We can only dream . . . . . .
Or Mark Hughes although they may not be everyones cup of tea.
The problem is they would both want money to spend and our management appear reluctant to invest in playing talent. Would they want to take over a division 3 club? We would be a much more attractive proposition had we been struggling in the prem or mid table in the championship. Both these guys are ambitious – can we honestly say that about M&M after the last 2 years? Sadly I don’t think either would touch us with a barge pole. I think Dean will stay whatever.
i like that idea very much …
One thing is for sure, we have to get at least 1 win from our remaining 2 games and hope that Peterborough don’t beat Wednesday at home, if that happens I think we may just stay up, however it is coming right down to the Brighton game I think…no doubt Deano will go with the 10-0-0 formation on that day, which should keep them from scoring more than 3 I reckon, but if Peterborough do beat Wednesday then those goals against could be the things that drop us into Div 3, what a way to drop out of the Div 2 that would be!
UTW
On Thursday night I’m at a sportsman’s dinner.
Dean Saunders is the speaker.
#justsaying
i think everybody is too depressed to even bother posting a reply …says it all really
I really don’t know what to say to the bloke. I might just stand back and watch what happens….surprised he’s doing it to be honest.
i wouldnt know what to say myself other than what does it feel like being the sacrificial lamb? or maybe..when new managers come in normally the team suddenly start playing – so what happened? let me know how you get on mate and try not to stammer.. 🙂
Well lets hope you tell them some home truths and dont mince ur words
I did post last night, but it got lost in the system somewhere, ain’t got the heart to post it again
to painful, just going to say one word. ( CONNED )
Where’s that light in the darkness when we need it?
And what came first, darkness or the light?
Presumably darkness, for as we know the light cometh out from it.
But there must have been light before the darkness, surely?
Maybe there was a total eclipse, something akin to Pieman blocking the counter at Greggs.
It’s all bloody darkness at the moment anyway and it’s driving me nuts.
To quote Genesis Chapter 2 Verse 13:-
“And amongst the ferment and the darkness he did see a bright light at the end of the tunnel. And, Lo!, it was a socking great express train coming in the other direction!”.
I hope we stay up, but if we do go down then Saunders + Morgan are gone. Though we will have huge contracts, many we will sell off. What many people don’t remember is that we have a top youth academy, Doherty being the most recent, who will probably play all of next year in the npower 1. Short term things look bad, but long term they don’t look awful.
Thank God for Ben and Thomas for their great blogs through this torrid campaign!
Here we are again having to rely on other teams. We always bottle it last day, as we all know!
Sadly irrespective of the outcome of this season, i believe we are lumbered with this manager, this style of football, the blind business model and the pathetic situation we are in. Lets hope someone can look into the financial dealings and the administration at the club, as that would be enlightening.
Here’s hoping to Posh and Barnsley losing the next two games and us scraping home safe. As always we will keep following the Wolves.
