I was off work yesterday, so I took the opportunity to head down to Molineux and get my picture taken with the Championship trophy. Although my nether regions turned to icicles queuing outside in the Billy Wright stand, it was worth the sub-zero wait to get an up-close look at the famous silverware.

As an added bonus, the trophy was actually on display in the home changing room, so it was a nice experience to head down the tunnel and get a look at the interview area along the way.
Inside the room itself you were allowed to have as many photos as you liked taken and weren’t rushed along at all, which was nice, if not a little frustrating for those waiting outside. You could touch the trophy, but only where the ribbons were covering the silver. Unfortunately, it was not permitted to hoist the trophy above your head and scream wildly. I did ask.
It was commented on that the changing room wasn’t particularly big and for a full matchday squad of 18 players, space must surely be at a premium, particularly when you consider all the other people who are probably knocking around.
Anyway, fair play to the club for putting on this free event. It was well organised, the staff were friendly and there was generally a welcoming atmosphere all around Molineux. An excellent piece of PR, which I’m happy to acknowledge.
I managed to snap quite a lot of pictures (well, my fiancee did anyway), so here’s a few others.
If anyone wants a bigger copy of any of the images to keep themselves or use as a wallpaper, let me know and I’ll ping them to you in an email. These were took on a digital SLR, so the original pictures are gigantic.

Excellent pictures! I’m an ex pat living and working in Detroit so only get back every couple of years. Would love to get a copy of the pics!
Much appreciated,
David Hipwood
No problem David.
I’ll send you them in an email.
Is that someone doing ballet on top of the trophy?
Could be the Hof – he looks like bambi on ice from what I have seen!
Leave the Hof alone. He’s been awesome. Same scoring rate as SEB
Before a Preston Vs Wolves game a few years ago they were letting people have their photo taken with the FA Cup in the museum that is at Deepdale. They let you pick it up, but only if you wore gloves while doing so.
A cynic might suggest there is more than one FA Cup doing the rounds for promotional reasons, but I wouldn’t be so cynical!
Couple of things that made me laugh today…
Firstly from the Express and Star, and I quote…
“Henry, who might just be the only serious rival contender to Kevin Doyle were a ballot taken now for Player of the Season.”
Anyone else think player of the season should go for passing sideways?
secondly, on BBC website…
“Wolves chairman Steve Morgan believes Liverpool would be debt-free had his 2004 bid for the Merseysiders been accepted. Full story: The Times”
Anyone else think prefer him to be commenting on our survival or lack of signings in January rather than anything to do with his beloved Liverpool? Anyone with media training would have avoided commenting on this.
Henry is definitely the next best in player of the year. Can’t really think of anyone else!
Here Here. I’ve got the great number 8 on my back.
Henry is definitely the next best in player of the year. Can’t really think of anyone else!
Can I have a photo of the trophy, forgot to take one of it on it’s own!
Thomas – never mind gypo, are you Keogh in disguise? Ha,ha,ha!
You cheeky git.
To be fair, I’ve been called Keogh more times than I care to mention.
After we beat QPR last season, I made the mistake of going into Walkabout, where I was constantly berated with loud Keogh chants from drunken supporters I’d never even met.
I’ve also suffered the same ridicule by the lads I play football with. It doesn’t help that I’m a striker who can’t shoot for toffee, which makes the comparison all the more hilarious for them.
All in good fun though.
Morgan has been opening his mouth on Liverpool again (Times online)…
From The Times February 16, 2010
Liverpool ‘debt free under me’, says Steve Morgan
Steve Morgan, who tried to buy Liverpool in 2004, has depicted an alternative reality where the Barclays Premier League club are debt free, saying yesterday that life at Anfield would have been very different now had his takeover bid succeeded.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers chairman abandoned his attempt to buy Liverpool after losing patience with what he described as the board at the time’s “indecision”. He accused them of stalling in the hope that a better offer would come along. In 2007, Morgan bought Wolves.
Morgan, a Liverpool fan and former shareholder, is chairman and founder of Redrow, the housebuilders. He is named as Britain’s 146th-wealthiest person in The Sunday Times Rich List and implied that Liverpool made a mistake by failing to accept his offer.
“I was going to put at the time up to £70 million investment into the club,” he said. “It would have been cash into the club. It would have pretty much reduced the debt and got the debt down to nil.” Christian Purslow, the Liverpool managing director, who acted as an adviser to Morgan’s 2004 bid, is seeking outside investment that would help to alleviate the cripplingly high annual interest payments on the club’s debt. “If I’d have been there, there wouldn’t have been that interest bill,” Morgan said.
Morgan, who spoke out last month against football’s debt culture, bought Wolves for a nominal £10 on the condition that he would invest £30 million in the club. Wolves were promoted to the Premier League last season.
“Our plan this year and hopefully next is to establish ourselves in the Premier League and to build,” Morgan said yesterday. “But again, it’s a step at a time. This year is about trying to establish ourselves and then to take the club forward.”
Maybe a bit more of that £70 million could have gone on securing a couple of signings in January!
Apparently the 70 million was spent shortly after we secured the Championship in May. It was spent on the huge electricity bill at Molineux. It was discovered that when they opened the door to the trophy room, to place in said new trophy, the last person in there had left the light on!
Old one – but always raises a smile!
Last time I was in the Trophy room… Shergar was in in one corner and Lord Lucan in the other
? Sorry Daz – must be a Qld thing
