Nothing quite beats the immense smugness of being proven right, especially when it comes to football.

Admit it, we’ve all savoured that elevated sense of self worth when our personal little prophecies come to fruition.
I felt like Rain Man for a week after correctly predicting back-to-back 3-1 victories a few seasons back. Halcyon times.
Too often though these moments of inspiration are lost, meaning we’re robbed of the opportunity to revel in our genius.
To this end, I’m giving you all now the opportunity to make one (or as many) predictions as you like about the season ahead for our beloved club.
Think of this post as a time capsule that we’ll bury deep into the Wolves Blog archive, to be unearthed at the end of May when we can celebrate those who were gloriously correct and commiserate (mock) the woefully wrong.
I’ll get the ball rolling with three of my own:
1. Wolves will finish in the top 6, but fall short of automatic promotion.
2. Richard Stearman will be our best performing defender.
3. Dave Edwards will score at least 10 goals.
I also put the challenge out on Twitter, so here are a few of the predictions I collected on there:

As we sing to Norwich fans then, lets be having you.
From the sensible and reasoned to the downright outlandish, I want to hear them.
Put your cards on the table.

My predictions:
1. We wont gain promotion
2. We will reach the Semi final of a Cup run but lose out to a Premier League team-probably Totenham!
3. Griffiths will not be a Wolves player by 2014
4. Doyle will still be a wolves player in 2014
1. Top 6 – win play-offs
2. Griffiths top league scorer
3. Griffiths signs for Prem club end of season on a free
4. Danny Batth player of season
Back in the prem within two season’s – Champions of Div one followed by playoff winners of the Championship next season. WTFN!
Dean Saunders will come back a director of football
Steve Bull will say something that somebody has not said before
Jez will lose 8 stone
Morgan will bring his kids on the pitch when we win the league in March
Griffiths top scorer 30+
Winner of league 1 and JPT
Zeli will work his way into the team
I’ve actually put a tenner on us finishing 1st and the shit getting relegated.
What a happy collection of £410 that will be 🙂
After being shot down in flames last August for daring to suggest we were not good enough to gain promotion, I think we are more than capable of a top two finish provided: Rumours about Celtic (or any other club) wanting Griffiths are unfounded. We bring in at least two new players in this transfer window. Trouble is its always the unexpected events that determine our fate so its a matter of crossing fingers and hoping for a generous share of luck.
1. Top Six Finish
2. Griffiths and Siggy to bag 40 goals between them.
3. Siggy to be player of the season
1. Make the play-off’s
2. Roger Johnson player of the year attracting £20m bids from Manu and Arsenal 🙂
3. Lee Evans will be the find of the season
4. Leigh Griffiths will head-but Jez Moxey sometime during the season
5. Leigh Griffiths will score at least 6 hat-tricks
I will win the Euro Lottery and buy Wolves, play at centre forward and become the first 60+ player and score at least 30 goals during December > May.
I will also marry Katherine Jenkins and Kylie Mynogue will be my mistress.
I will also be the first contact with aliens from the planet Zog.
I will also remember to take my medication on a regular basis.
🙂
theres no way we will make the play offs fool 🙂
1. Wolves fall short of play-offs.
2. Strait will be sacked.
3. Fire sales continue.
4. Gates plummet.
Personally don’t want to see anything like this. But until we have a real revolution in
the boardroom and get rid of Moxey I really fear for our great club.
moxey out !! please GOD
We won’t be relegated (sure win!) 🙂
…I would have said that last season though.
Ive already backed em to go down. 20 to 1
1. Wolves will be promoted automatically
2. Danny Batth will be moulded into a captain in the waiting centre back
3. Jamie O’Hara won’t play Premier League football (despite being a Premier League footballer)
4. David Davis will cost us a goal by passing without looking
5. Leigh Griffiths will be sent off
6. Bakary Sako won’t track back (whichever club he’s playing for)
7. George Elokobi will mis-control 50% of every passes that come his way
8. Dave Edwards will get injured
9. Lee Evans will get teased due to his unfortunate namesake
10. Molineux will groan inexplicably when a pass is misplaced
11. Jez Moxey will keep us in the black regardless of any negative impact on the playing squad
12. Jody Craddock will get the testimonial he deserves
13. Kevin Foley will be played out of position
14. Richard Stearman will make a catastrophic mistake
Nailed it mate. Got a clue for the lottery numbers please?
1. We’ll be solid until the New Year without threatening to win the League.
2. Purchases of 2 or 3 new players in the January transfer window will see us catapult to the top.
3. We’ll slip up at the end and only get promoted via the play-offs.
4. We will still despise Moxey.
1. Morgan and Moxey will still be in charge.
2. Barely any money (if any) will be spent on new players.
3. Top ten finish.
The coming months ….
Wayne will be loaned or sold, Sako and Doyle to go last minute and RJ and JoH will book round the world sea cruises on the Wolves credit card.
On the pitch, I expect to see goals goals goals – at both ends -with regular 3-2, 2-2 and 2-1 scorelines as striking hot shot Griffiths links up with Evans, Siggy and Zele and they try to keep one goal ahead of the shambles at the back.
January should see us sitting a little above mid table and Jacket under pressure to recruit.
One or two no-name signings in the transfer, a defender and possibly a striker will add to a bi-polar couple of months in the Spring and see us finish 6th only to lose out in the first play off to Sheffield 3-1 (Griffiths 48′) away and then 2-2 at home. (Griffiths 34′ Davis 78′)
I have a strange suspicion though that we will do something we havent done in decades – and do well in a cup, not the fa cup, the paint cup, perhaps even winning it, beating Stevenage 4-2 in extra time (2-2 in normal time) (Griffiths 28′, 104′ Ismail 38′ Davis 112′)
Up the Wolves
Fuck off Moxey
1, Doyle, Sako, Hennessey all sold and money pocketed for houses
2. Possibly 1 journeyman but solid free signing coming in
3. Our young wolves having a stormer and gaining automatic promotion, only for Moxey to strip Jackett of his now valuable young wolves to sell for a profit.
4. Griffiths will be League one top scorer this season and sign a new long term contract with wolves only to be sold to a premiership club now that the long term contract can justify a more lucrative fee and sell on clause and more houses
5. Hollywood and The Drunkard will have their contracts cancelled by mutual consent.
6. Jackett will walk after a season in the championship missing out in the play offs public stating the lack of backing and selling off of his best players as the reason
7. Beer and Pies will still be over priced and warm or cold accordingly
8. Moxey will leave for a higher salary role at the end of the season, (we can but hope)
9. Steve Bull will come out with more statements drafted for him by M and M.
10. I will still support the boys no matter how cynical I get!! lol
1. Top six finish.
2. Griffiths top scorer.
3. Young guns to come through & pull the team up.
4. My faith in my beloved team fully restored.
5. Grease ball sadly still in charge!
Feeling more optimistic now but we’ll see what happens!
Up the wolves!!!
Sorry to be a harbinger of doom, but I think a top 6 finish is the absolute best we can hope for. For what it’s worth I think we will finish just outside the play-offs, between 7th and 10th.
I won’t labour the point about Morgan’s missing millions as we’ve been over all that, but we haven’t strengthened a hapless squad in any shape or form bar Sam Ricketts (and Griffiths who is like a new signing)
From conversations with those in the know, the club appear to have told Jackett he won’t get any money to spend and will have to cultivate the youngsters, which is no bad thing in many ways and should be a refreshing sight at least.
But to then expect Evans, McAlinden, Davis, Zeli, Price and co to show the consistency necessary to finish in the top 2 is crazy! And a tad unrealistic IMO.
And what about inevitable injuries? We look so, so light, particularly out wide. If Zeli got injured it would feel like the end of the world, and he’s never kicked a ball for us!!!! Says it all?
On pre-season evidence, our defence leaks too many goals and our midfield is lacking bite.
To supplement this, Jackett has been knocked back in a number of targets in much the same way Solbakken was when he wanted Demidov, Geromel, etc.
In this regard, it appears the club has not learned lessons as it idly assumes we’ll have enough quality. It was the same last season! (Either that or the club has already conceded that we ain’t going anywhere for a year or two.)
So all this considered…Seventh place.
Not meaning to sound like an arrogant Wolves fan cos we could well get bitten on the arse but remember Walsall almost made the play-offs with kids, Yeovil went up! Team spirit and getting on a run counts for a lot at this level. I see no reason, especially with Griffiths and Siggy’s quality and the freshness of the likes of Evans and Price, that we can’t make top two.
I hope you’re right Rich. I did see Walsall a couple of times last season during their fine run. They would have beaten us all ends up back then. Their pace and movement was something else. Thankfully Grigg and Brandy have gone now, who were real outlets along with Westcarr when I saw him,
Your point backs mine up in a way though. The league is littered with teams like Walsall, who have matured together, play a particular way together and make it difficult for other teams to beat them, as seen in that 1 loss in about 20 stat.
It’s teams like those that our young lads have got to get to grips with and, having never had the experience before, I worry for them.
That’s not to say I won’t enjoy watching them infinitely more than recent seasons when I attend.
I’ll be a damned sight more proud of them too.
I just think that with the remnants of one of the most underachieving squads in our history, coupled with a belligerent lack of investment, means that this is a ‘project’ that will take some time.
I actually think it’s unrealistic to think we can get out of this league for 2 years, as it currently stands.
Just my opinion though Rich! As I say, I hope you’re right!!
1. Moxey will still be fat
2. Moxey still will not run the club with any class or talent ( on fxxing holiday again…)
3.O cant give a fuck will end up as a porn star because no one will take a chance on him
4. Johnson will be a liability for the under 21s in training and dropped to the academy team sessions
5. Jacket will get us into the playoffs and we will lose in semi finals
1. Griffiths to serve some kind of custodial sentence at some point during the season.
2. Moxey to suffer some kind of pie induced health scare and be replaced by Bully as Morgan’s business brain.
3. At least 2 out of O’Hara, Johnson and Doyle to be sold/given away/paid off on deadline day, far too late to bring in any adequate replacements to strengthen what is an exciting and young but ultimately way too thin squad.
All the good work and good intentions of our excellent manager, all the passion, effort and no little skiil of our youngsters will be undermined by lack of investment in new players.
Another wonderful oppurtunity, like our promotion to the premiership, will be woefully wasted by ann owner and all powerful CEO with a different agenda to everyone else at the club.
A promissing start will fizzle out into an ultimately failed campaign where a club and supporters who deserve much much more will remain stranded in the third tier of English football.
The fat man has been on holiday, your dead right in what may happen, surely he should have been sweating blood blubber and tears to shift the unwanted mob and what about a good old calculated risk and buying some much needed experience now.. I continue to be bemused how the pie eating cretin still has a job
sack the fat man for a brighter future
Sorry to say, but Martin pretty much covers my thoughts.
Our youngsters will do well but struggle to establish a sustained promotion campaign. It will become clear we were perhaps one or two experienced signings short.
Moxey will again be caught out trying to put a third tier promotion team out there at the lowest cost but having no foorball nous.
KJ will become increasingly fed up at having a good plan and ambition but being second guessed by Thelwell and Moxey.
Promotion maybe via play offs is best I can hope for, but do not count out another melt down like last year.
Soggy will go to juventos Roger Johnston will go to fray bentos
Should have said siggy .. Fucking predictive text shit
I quite liked Soggy …
i prefer moist…
that’s just rude…
1. The MM partnership will remain dysfunctional until the moment of truth when there will be a falling out between the two of them.
2. Moxey will go and Lakin will become CEO, with Thelwell’s position as de facto director of football being strengthened.
3. Until the falling out mentioned in 1 occurs, on the pitch Wolves will show a lot of promise, sometimes playing brilliantly, but will lack the consistency to win automatic promotion.
4. The team will be strengthened in the January transfer window.
5. Griffiths will be arrested at some time during the season.
6. Davis or Batth will be the PFA player of the season for D1.
7. Wolves will gain promotion through the play-offs.
1. We’ll be promoted automatically.
2. Sigurdsson won’t be a Wolves player come May.
Easy one: 3) our away support will be the largest in the league
Crazy one: 4) O’Hara will pull on a Wolves jersey again.
1.) Wolves beat Preston 2-0 in the Play-Off final.
2.) Leigh Griffiths finishes top-scorer and signs a two-year deal.
3.) Lee Evans wins Young Player of the Year.
4.) Carl Ikeme becomes one of the league’s best goalkeepers.
5.) Roger Johnson actually stays, and performs alright. ( Long shot ).
6.) Danny Batth wins Player of the Season award.
7.) Kenny Jackett wins Manager of the Season.
Now, that’d be grand, eh?
Here are my predictions:-
1) Leigh Griffiths will score a hatful of goals early season, attract a huge bid from a Premiership club and then, just before Moxey can pocket the cheque, become a Jehovah’s Witness and never play football again.
2) We will gain promotion in the play offs in front of 40,000 Wolves fans at Wembley.
3) My shoulder will get better.
4) Michael Eavis will persuade Led Zep to reform and headline Glastonbury.
5) The present Mrs DOOGooder will let me do that thing I keep going on about.
Four out of five will do me.
ill just take led zep to headline Glastonbury please..sod the football and sod moxey and albion while im at it !
6) your shoulder heals so well you get invited to play the drums
and then the stewards will ban you as no drums policy is silly when you could stick em next to the away fans and make them all play out of rhythm like Spandau ballet :
If I get that gig there’ll be backstage passes for all Wolves Bloggers!
what an ugly bunch of groupies wed make…ill be the one with the three wolves on a triangular flag doogs..wave my way and ill lift my top !! 🙂
I predict a gold riot if we DONT go up..and I predict I will be drinking a hob goblin – goodnight
1. Wolves ends up as champions
2. Wolves scores most goals of all the teams in the division.
3. Wolves concede one or two goals in most of the matches, but it doesn’t really matters when wolves scores more than the opposition.
4. Maybe a couple of new defenders and a midfielder arrives in january.
5. A couple of the newcomers (Ismail, Cassidy, Mcalinden etc.) performs better than expected and brings on harder competition than expected (we’ll even see rotation).
6. One of the strikers becomes the player of the year (Sako, Sigurdarson or Griffiths.
7. We’ll see lot of rotation among the midfielders (I believe that the newcomers performance will be a bit inconsistent, so we’ll see more of both Doumbia and O’hara, if they don’t disappear).
8. Jackett manager of the year
Let the games begin…
We won’t beat Preston on day one but we will end up as champions. Griffiths to surpass 20 goals with at least two hat-tricks. Evans and Price to breathe fresh life into the side, Zeli though will fail to live up to the hype unfortunately.
Some highly amusing and thought provoking predictions. Unfortunetly i agree with those who think we may just miss out on promotion. Millwall were not particularly consistant under Kenny and that could be the problem for Wolves next season though there will be some bright performances.
We do have a few experienced players to balance the youngsters – lets see who we’re left with, but Foley, Stearman, Edwards, Sigurdarson, Ikeme, Hennesey are a few, and Griffiths and Cassidy have lots pf experience too.
If we had been able to offload a couple of the ‘infamous four’, or get the £4 million for Sako, perhaps we’d have got one or two new faces in, but there’s a big enough squad in my opinion.
My money is on Wolves to win the league (at 4 to 1) – we ‘ll be well clear at the top by Xmas, and LG will just love banging ’em in week after week, and a few others competing with him to get among the scorers.
I’ll be going for 3-1 or 3-0 every week. UTW !
Having left Leigh Griffiths out in the cold we have now ‘challenged’ him to win a new contract. If he is scoring goals for fun i predict it will be a challenge to get him to sign one. More pie in the sky from the pie man of pie town.
1. Walsall will do the double over us.
2. Mid table finish.
3. Griffiths top scorer and leaves for nothing at end of season.
4. Moxey gives season ticket holders a free pie to compensate for poor season.
5. Morgan builds 10 four bed detached on training ground.
6. My new seat in North Bank gets wet when it rains
Hats off to KJ for sidelining those who think they are ‘too good’ to play in a division they got relegated to. Circumstances mean the kids are finally getting a chance at a level where they may flourish. In the longer term we may see some benefit from that (so long as Moxey doesn’t see pound signs first).
Still, right now I’m at least looking forward to the start of the season, which I certainly wouldn’t have been if we’d tried to build a promotion push around proven failures.
Anyway, I’m cautiously optimistic that we might actually be entertained this season but not sufficiently deluded to expect promotion.
1. The remaining outcasts will be brought in from the cold at some point (the fact we’ve had no offers being deemed to have ‘taught them a lesson’ but the reality that they are vastly overpaid meaning Moxey wants them in the shop window)
2. Despite all of the posturing, Sako will leave for less than we paid for him (aka ‘an undisclosed fee’ with no sell-on clause), will be sold on by his next club for a handsome profit within 12 months and we won’t spend the money on players
3. ‘Future captain’ Danny Batth will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season
4. Griffiths will set Molineux on fire with his goals but be sold in January because getting a fee will be deemed more important than promotion (alternatively, Griffiths will set Molineux on fire and be jailed for arson).
Sorry, forgot…
5. We’ll be in and around the top 6 all season and will then fade spectacularly and finish 7th
Sorry forgot…
6. Dave Edwards will get injured (am I too late?). Damn. Managed less than one game. Not a man to play through the pain barrier our Dave.
I think some are massively over estimating some of the teams in this division. Yes, Sheff Utd are still trying to get out and promotion is far from guaranteed, but those who think we have a paper-thin squad should take a look at some of our upcoming opponents. Looking at the squad l feel there’s more than enough there.
If things dont go well i predict kenny will resign before he is sacked. I dont call him ‘strait’ but if i did it would be because he has had his hands tied behind his back. How many managers would announce four players wont play again almost before he has walked through the front door. Many decisions have been taken out of his hands.
1.) Wolves will be league champions with 5 games to go until the end of the season.
2.) Moxey will cash in on our best players and no money will be re-invested in the team.
3.) Even with reduced gates, you won’t be able to get a pie at half time unless you go down onto the concourses 10 minutes before half time.
4.) Griffiths and Sigurdarson will become the new Bully and Mutch.
5.) We will do the double over Walsall.
6.) We won’t wear the away strip more than half a dozen times.
7.) Danny Batth won’t turn up to training pissed.
8.) Kevin Doyle will move to Celtic and learn to score again.
9.) Wolves will have an winning run of at least 6 games.
10.) Griffiths will win the League 1 Golden Boot.
Firstly, great idea for a blog!
Now, some predictions….
1. England to win the Ashes
2. Griffiths L1 top scorer
3. Wolves away following to outnumber the home support on at least 2 occasions
4. Morgan and Jackett make earnest attempts to re-engage the supporters, Moxey tries but is about as believable as a tory minister saying “we’re all in this together”
5. First (serious) ‘Jackett Out’ cries start around Christmas time
6. Promotion with a new, homegrown young and hungry team
Mrs Doogooder will never do “that,” it’s the mouth she kisses her grandkids with.
Houston Astros to lose 100 games, again, this season.
Houston Texans to fail to reach the playoffs, again, this season.
Houston Dynamo to lose in the MLS Cup Final, again, this season.
Wolves to finish somewhere between first and last in the Third Division.
All the above are certainties, the rest is just like praying, an absolute waste of time.
We all want the best for our team, and the worst for greasel and others.
I’m off to St Louis, see y’all at Preston.
FOwb
No, it’s not that.
No grandkids to kiss anyway.
But even if there were I would always make her clean her teeth after she had kissed them.
They can get quite mucky you know.
50 50 for promotion. No premier league football for 10 years if morgan stays in charge. sucking the club dry of cash. any player worth over 3 million will be sold unless recent injuries prevent sale. will do a sales pitch for the next 10 years via his puppet jez moxey and the yes men.
1. Someone on this Blog will say “Jackett out” before the end of September (not including this post).
2. If we lose due to a poor defensive performance, Clive will still blame Stephen Ward despite the fact he won’t be playing.
3. Sigurdarson will have a good couple of games and then be out for a month with a hamstring injury.
4. Edwards will have a good couple of games and then be out for 3 months with a hamstring injury.
5. We will spend the whole season being told Razak Boukari will be back soon and how he will be “like a new signing” and we’ll still never see him play.
6. Leigh Griffiths will get into some sort of trouble with the Police (as in keepers of law and order, not the lot Sting plays with).
7. We will get knocked out of the Sherpa Van Trophy prior to the quarter final stage.
8. The club shop will never restock the 1974 Wembley League Cup Final shirts in Large as they promised my Dad a couple of weeks ago.
1. We’ll finish mid-table;
2. All of the three amigos (Ward, O’ Hara, Johnson) will be back in the first XI by Christmas;
3. I won’t win the prediction league.
Chr*st, two seasons ago we were in the prem. Is a top 6 finish in division 3 really the best we can aspire to!!!!!!!!
That shows how far we have fallen.
Things never change.
1. Moxey to issue a statement saying we are not a selling club.
2. All of our jems to be sold by end of January; Hennessy, Batth, siggy, sako and griffiths. Cassidy sent on loan to our rivals.
3. Ohara, Johnson and ward to still be here at end of January.
4. No more signings this window
5. Kenny sacked before next window
6. We finish outside of play offs
7. New manager forced to sell more players to cut wage bill
8. Moxey gets a bonus regardless
Things never change!
on Holiday so just a short prediction from me.
Bottom half finish ; possible Relegation.
Over 75 Goals conceded ; highest in the league.
Griffiths injured early on and out for the season
Only possible relegation you must be on holiday Pferdepferde ! Enjoy your comments for doom and gloom it hits the spot.
Good to see your optimistic side showing at last.
(*)
We’ll scrape victories in our first few games, before thrashing Crawley Town 6-0. Then we’ll get complacent, picking up only 2 points from the next 5 games; Jackett will survive by the skin of his teeth and we’ll pick ourselves up, trundling gradually back up the table.
We’ll guarantee automatic promotion with the second-last game of the season. There won’t be anyone to give a debut to for the meaningless end-of season game though, because all our youngsters will have got a fair crack at some point during the season already.
Here’s hoping..!
