I never thought I’d begin any piece of writing by paraphrasing the mildly annoying American rock band Paramore but the lyric ‘that’s what you get when you let your heart win’ seems appropriate for this particular report.
After the jubilation that followed last week’s heroics at Anfield and the impressive midweek victory over Barnsley, anyone would be forgiven for thinking that the good times would continue to roll at the Pirelli Stadium.
But, in true Wolves fashion, that was not to be and we all should have known better.
This club has a famed habit for kicking you in the nether regions when you’re feeling most hopeful and, true to form, the away contingent were made to endure our poorest showing under Paul Lambert.
It’s hard to recall a more unimaginative performance than the one that was churned in yesterday, our only tactic being to hit long balls to a striker that was at least half a foot shorter than the two centre backs marking him.
Burton’s torrid pitch no doubt played a part in this, with the players looking uncomfortable on it from the onset, but that excuse can only take you so far when Bristol City, Preston and Wigan have all claimed victory on it at various stages of the season.
The narrowness of the field stymied the counter attacking play that has become synonymous with Lambert’s Wolves and subsequently Weimann, Dicko and Helder Costa – the latest subject of a variation on the Dave Clark Five’s ‘Glad All Over’ – were left isolated for much of the game.
The home side on the other hand looked empowered by the conditions and dictated most of the play in a largely uneventful first half, with their recent influx of loan signings appearing to have added quality to the side that claimed a point at Molineux last September.
Keeper Jon McLaughlin conceded the initiative when he bundled Dave Edwards over just before the break and allowed Costa to claim his tenth goal of the season from the penalty spot.
It was a lead that flattered us and none of those crammed into the glamorous Russell Roof Tiles Stand were under the illusion that a major improvement was not required in the second half.
That was not forthcoming and the Brewers claimed a deserved equaliser on the hour mark through loanee Michael Kightly, becoming the latest beneficiaries of our notorious ex-players curse whilst doing so.
Wolves never looked capable of responding and Lambert was frustratingly rigid in his tactics, preferring to send Bright on ahead of Bodvarsson and deadline day recruit Ben Marshall.
By the time the latter pair had come on, the game was drawing to a close and we were hanging on for a point.
Torrid defending, otherwise known as the theme of our afternoon, prevented us from doing that and Cauley Woodrow tucked in a late winner that well and truly erases the feel good factor of last week and leaves us just seven points clear of the trapdoor.
Four successive league fixtures at home offer ample opportunity to rectify this but there can surely be seldom repeats of today’s showing if we’re to end the season comfortably.

there may be some hope in that we also have a way of pulling off a great performance right after poor one, so let’s see if we can do it against Newcastle. We do seem to need a big challenge to bring out our best.
I think we’d have done better yesterday if we’d made more changes, not expecting the heroes of Anfield to keep on doing it, Ronan, Gibbs-White, etc. may have adapted better. Conditions on Burton’s half pint pitch were not helpful – obviously they’re used to it.
I agree, we seemed to have no idea of how to deal with the small pitch that cramped the players together, completely smothering the wide players. There appeared to be no plan whatsoever other than to lump the ball in the direction of Dicko time and time again. All to no effect of course because his marker must have been a good 9 inches or so taller than him.In short, we resembled a Sunday morning pub team which is a far cry from the improvement of recent games. The conditions were right for Jon Dadi not Dicko, so the Manager has to take some blame this time. Also the defenders are still a worry because both the Burton goals could and should have been avoided.
I am not a fan of extensive rotation particularly with defenders who need a clear understanding of each other. Also, I can’t see the midfield pair of Saville and Evans is the way to go, as they don’t create or know how to create anything.Yes, they both played well at Liverpool but in my view that was as a result of the euphoria associated with the occasion and is not a lasting situation.I would have preferred these two to have been loaned out.A play maker in midfield is always a must eg Price or Ronan and why did we let Prince go?
Prince is a player I really hope we don’t sell. He bagged a couple of goals and was dangerous when joining the attack. Zenga went as far as playing him out wide because of his goal threat. And, yes, I don’t think it’s the strongest midfield constellation we fielded against Burton. A possible central midfield lineup next match could be: Price, Coady and Edwards. Coady has played some good football as a fullback, but will probably restored to play in his supposed best position now as Marshall has joined, or?
Not a good day for sport on Saturday, I was just about to go to Cannel 3 for the rugby when the teletext advised the home team had scored their late winner.
Given that major disappointment, and then having to endure England having a torrid afternoon against the French at Twickenham was not much fun, although they did grind out the win, my black & gold heroes could n`t manage to hold onto a slender half time advantage. Very disappointing, how can we win at Anfield and then lose at Burton.
Then I saw the team with Evans & Saville, and read the reports we were overrun in midfield it all dropped into place. The modern game is all about pace, mobility and physicalilty, attributes these two players don`t have, Its now clear they can`t raise their game two Saturdays running either.
Match of the day highlighted Konte and his awesome pace, mobility and dynamism, hope he is left out of the Chelsea team for the cup game. But to get overrun in midfield is just not good enough, particularly when you only play one (so-called) striker. The size of the pitch and quality of the surface shouldn`t make any difference. We are lightweight in midfield in particular without Ronan, so a few things to sort out for PJ before we play the league leaders on Saturday, and lets hope the bad performance is out of the way. Just relieved I was unable to get a ticket for this match.
Well penned report Rasmin,As I wasn’t at the game I can only go by what I heard on the radio and from a mate who attended the game, who said pretty much what you reported, sometimes you have to take the medicine no matter how awful it tastes, maybe it will help cure the illness we have when playing lesser teams on paper.
I just think the Doctor PL got the prognosis wrong in team selection and tactics, I’ve always said no matter who you play always play your best team, as you said Rasmin the pitch wasn’t the best to play on but surely we had enough in the skill factor to at least give them a game.
As you said 4 games at home now ,where we haven’t performed well this term. Its still going to be a tough second half of the season to make us safe especially with the lower teams making a fist of it.
We can’t get to complacent or we could be dragged into a dog fight.Strange yesterday morning I was thinking we could get on a run of results and perhaps make a push for the playoffs but today I’m looking the other way, fickle comes to mind.
well that’s what we get as wolves supporters and as PL said it was bound to happen at some stage so lets put it into the past and look forward to Newcastle
Typical Wolves. They tease and promise so much then let you down with a bang. Not the end of the world but dropping points here is a reminder that we are still dangerously near the wrong end of the table.
A day to forget but a down to earth reminder that this league is brutal and unforgiving.
Goals from an ex-Wolves hero and a Wolves supporting relative of ex-player John Holsgrove. Typical. Oh well. Hopefully reaffirms the fact that whilst our squad is taking shape and looking good we still desperately need to sign two key players in the Summer. A proven goalscorer and a dominant, quick and commanding centre half. £20m on those two players and we will be set fair I believe. Onwards and upwards lads. 5 straight home wins anyone?
A timely reminder that we still need to re-build. Yes i will go with a goalscorer and a commanding centre half but not convinced that any of our glut of midfielders are as complete as they need to be. That is perhaps why we have so many they are all bit part players. .For one reason or another It was also a day when nearly every club in the Championship on a losing streak managed to get a result (probably just something to do with brexit).
Dicko needs playmaking central midfielders like Ronan to be effective. This performance, like many others this season, shows that we do not have good Champ. defenders, Williamson apart (have not seen Marshall). The only good central midfielders we have are very young. Hence a season of fits and starts.
Agreed. As soon as PL moves away from his 4231 system with a creative player in behind the striker and instead goes for three workhorses in central midfield then we not the same side at all. We need the creativity, vision and flair that comes from a Ronan or an Enobakhare and as hot a streak as Edwards may be on at the moment he is not a ‘number 10’ or creative or a flair player.
Well that was a kick in the goodies….hanging on for a draw against a team scrapping for their very championship status…..it sounded pretty poor fare by all accounts.
It simply proves that we are consistently inconsistent and lack players that have the muck and nettles approach to these sort of games.
It does seem folly to play creative players when the pitch is schoolboy size and your up against 6ft 6in bruisers.
IMO a poor team selection and is simply endorses that there is still an almighty long way to go before we are anywhere near the finished article.
Let’s hope against Newcastle some redemption is forthcoming…
Don’t worry, I am coming down to have a word with them before the Newcastle game. Should be in APV around 1500 hrs.
Thats a long time to be in the pub Bromers even for you.
We’ll be in their Brompton…time slot is good …
A good old reality check for all of us, perhaps much needed after recent euphoria. Major improvements are taking place under Paul Lambert, but it is surely the case that recent results have masked one major shortcoming which has to be addressed.
We have no strike force.
We have become almost completely reliant on Edwards and Costa to score goals. Our so called strikers are simply unable. Bod is great at holding up the ball but his forte is surely to create space and chances for a strike partner — which he does not have. Bright has undeniable potential, but presently is unable to produce. Mason, even when fit, is no prolific finisher, whilst Weiman appears to be a journeyman who adds little to the mediocrity already here.
That leaves Dicho, who it seems has been vastly over-rated. He huffs and puffs but without any end result. He never looks like scoring. Another, somewhat smaller version of Siggy appears to be a fair assessment.
That we failed to deal with this lack of goals problem in January was in my opinion a huge mistake. We can only hope that the decision not to prioritize the signing of a quality proven striker will not come back to haunt us during the next couple of months.
I think we should play Bright as a centre forward.
he did very well there for the Under 23s
Call me old fashioned if you will but I have always preferred a striker who plays crap but scores a goal to one who plays brilliantly but never scores. To find one who plays well and scores is perhaps too much to ask.
Dicko is not overrated. He just hasn’t returned to his old self yet, Mason is always a goal threat when played centrally. With Dicko and Bodvarsson prefered centrally he’s often played in wide positions which of course means he’ll get fewer chances to position himself in goal scoring positions in the box.
Perhaps he played ‘Here they lie’ on psvr and lost his way, perhaps it’s his buddy who’s playing? :))))
But how much time can we afford to give him to return to his old self ? How much longer is it reasonable to have a non scoring passenger leading the line ? One month, or another half a season ?
Dicho benefited hugely from playing alongside Afobe, and this purple patch probably inflated general assessment as to his worth as a striker. Until proven otherwise, I will continue to believe that what we now see represents who he actually is
Can’t help but agree with you there Mike . I don’t understand why we don’t start with J D B.
Even Mason proves his worth when he’s given the chance
I want Dicko to be as good as he was but I think we need to give the man fewer starts , more sub appearances, a good pre season and then have another look
I think, generally speaking, once a player has had a serious injury, especially attackers, they never are as good as they were before.
A good summation of the game Ben.
Big Mark Davies mentioned the England France game yesterday and it underlines the difference between a very good team and an average one.
England played like drains for the majority of the match but managed to come away with the win.
It demonstrated their mental strength, sheer bloody mindedness and determination not to be beaten.
Wolves don’t have that yet.
We can raise our game for a one off match but can’t perform consistently.
Whether it’s a collective mental problem, the lack of genuine leaders on the pitch, or both, is difficult to say.
But until Paul Lambert instills the necessary backbone into what is undoubtedly a talented bunch of players, we are going to remain what we are now.
A pretty average Championship side.
Normal service for Wolves fans resumed! I thought it was on the cards with the build up on BBC WM waxing lyrical about how good the squad system is, how the club is on the way etc etc.
A lot of work to do to get the team needed to get to the Prem. But gotta play Dicko & Jon Dadi up top from the start! Hoping for a good performance against the Toon. And a great run in.
Sickening though the last minute goal conceded, so Wolves that. With the obligatory ex- player goal we start 1-0 down in a lot of games. At least Chelsea don’t have any ex Wolves so should be easier game that one.
How frustrating to be a Wolves supporter. If yesterday taught us anything it is that we are still a very average side. An average side that performs quite brilliantly one week and then plays like a parks side the next. Of course the key is consistency and until we can achieve a measure of that we are strictly a mid table Championship side. I wasn’t at yesterday’s game but I’m reading that yet again our preferred attacking option was to lump long balls up to our 5ft 8in striker which we all know is futile and in fact unfair on Dicko. If we are going to pursue this tactic can we at least start with Bodvarson? As I say we are still an average side but an average side with some very good players so I think there is great hope for the future and in time we will hopefully achieve the necessary consistency to push for promotion.
Sung to the tune of Dave Clarke 5’s “Glad all over”
You say that you Love me, you’ll always be mine.
You say that you need me, all of the time.
Cause we’ve got….. (clap, clap)
HELDER COSTA, YES WE’VE GOT, (cap clap) HELDER COSTA
WE”VE GOT, (clap clap) HELDER COSTA all the time.
Believe me, this was the only good thing that came out of yesterdays game…
When you hear it in full voice you’ll know what I mean, especially against Chelski with their own plastic Costa.
Just one question. For the benefit of youngsters like me – who are the Dave Clark 5?
My musical knowledge doesn’t start before the 1990’s and before then its all a bit sketchy and I only know bits and pieces.
An up and coming modern beat combo that have a very promising future.
Imagine Sex Pistols without the spitting, swearing and being able to play the instruments.
Its those fuckin’ sick green strips!!
Makes me wanna puke just to look at them!
Why on dog’s green earth do we have to play in them?
How embarrassing!
I would feign an injury rather than play in those hideous things!
Yucko!
Why not the white and black from eons ago?
Or pussy pink?
Or even purple with sky blue pink shorts?
Anything would be better than vomit.
And five home games on the bounce?
With our home record, I aint too confident of five victories, The easy ones we will win, Toons and Russians, but lose to the likes of Wigan.
Ever hopeful and five days to Scoopedmas
Fowb
Houston, we do have a problem!
The away kit is sh1te and whilst it can’t be just the kit that makes us lose (I know I still wear my lucky pants & socks and we don’t always win with them on too) but I think we should change to a “second kit” not an away kit as we did in the 50’s & 60’s when as a club we were most successful
An all white second kit would ensure we can use our “first” kit whenever possible as we don’t have many clashes….
As far as Bumton, how many predicted Kightley to score?
and 4 mins of extra time and the last goal goes in at 93:45 is a sickener
5 home games on the bounce – restored to first kit for all of them.
For me, I really want to see commanding performances for the remainder of the season, I don’t think we have a hope of 6th place (great if we do), but to consolidate 2016/17, finish 9th or above, have a steady first team with a great spine and return of Graham, Zyro and the young ones puts us in great shape for 2017/18 and I think gives PL the backing of Fosun
FOWB
COYW
We played in lime green against Norwich & Burton.
Next time we play in it, I’m backing the other team!
For the winning goal as soon as the ball was headed away from goal the defence came out in what was clearly a rehearsed move (to get the opposition offside if the ball came back in). Unfortunately Ben Marshall, who probably wasn’t around when they practised this, wasn’t in on the play, and stood inside the 6 yard box playing two Burton players (one of whom scored) onside.
Still, with a poor performance all round, perhaps a draw would have been a tad lucky.
Gutted that in reality our party is over..I was I admit hanging on to the big six reunion and it was a relentless ask..even PL can’t break ‘the Wolves way’ of beating a really good team and then loosing to a low rated one..
But I did think that PL would see this coming as this was allegedly an auto win and he was aware of the typical Wolves syndrome..We were really doing so,so, well…!
Nope…and it’s all about nxt season and hanging on to Costa if realism sets in…
The FA cup could mend the groaning a bit but I would swop getting out of this shit league any time..
We conceded again a reckless goal (s) and the defence are back on the block for me..
Incidentally this is Burton Albion..Burton for Christ sake..
I dream still of being able to insure against these disasters there is £100M at stake plus Fosun s dosh so the importance of loosing to underdogs surely can’t be missed..
There is a word here on this blog – I use it too which Fosun and PL must acknowledge ‘typical’ must be a word of the past..
My opinion is to spend out of it so nxt season it has to be the way forward..
We fitted in so well at Anfield ..to have to play the Burtons of this world (and loose) just ain’t right ANYMORE..
I’m Pissed off proper ..
I said to my mate in the 90th minute that I would have taken 4 points from two away games in a week….then in the 94th minute he said to me why can’t you keep your effin mouth shut which was a fair point and well made!
Bit of an off day for everyone. Possibly a hangover after two good performances? Anyway can’t complain about the result as Burton were the better side and deserved it.
Hopefully this is just a blip in the road and a good run of home games coming up to get back on track.
Pl is to blame . Long balls to a tiny striker up against giant centre halves is quite simply stupid, come on Pl get your act together . It is a mystery why he did this as surely he is not blind and could see what everyone else did.
Tiny pitch ????? Bollocks, you have a fantastic training ground make a tiny pitch and play on it …. all week … get your players used to it , you knew it was coming ..bloody train for it..
Fuming at the stupidity of losing to bloody Burton bloody albion????????
Well said.
Tell it like it is Spikeyboy!
Another late goal gift and points to yet another team from generous old Wolves. That’s eight points we’ve lost after the 86th minute so far this season; check out the table and look where an extra eight points would put us now.
Holy frustration Batman.
How many points have we gained from late goals?
Why is it that when we lose people talk of relegation and when we win the play offs are within reach. We’re not going down and we’re not going up, what we are doing is building under Paul lambert for next season. Burton dragged us down to their level yesterday with their dogged tactics and poor small pitch. Wolves fell into burtons net and ended up paying the price. This is classic championship football and if we’re to get out of this league then we’ve got to learn not to be complacent and grind out results at places like Burton. One of those days yesterday but we live and learn. Next up Newcastle! I already know that we’ll be a completely different side to the one we saw yesterday.
Ashley up next at the Mol. Here is an example of the very worst of the capitalist exploiters. Treating the working class like shit. Feeding off the Thatcherite model of low regulation free markets. Be careful after Brexit. It could get a whole lot worse as workers rights are stripped away. Just s thought. Any way. Bad result yesterday. With a few results going against us the gap to the trap door is closing. PL has improved us but his record is won 5 drawn 3 lost 5. Pretty much mid table fair. Early days I know so not knocking the bloke. 4 league games at home coming up. At least 7 points required.
Stop blaming Wolves for you being so stupid. What makes you think a few good games means the season has turned around. Didn’t Walter have a good run for a while?
If you are over 15, you should know better but apparently, most of you don’t.
Theres that amanda lurking again.
We need around 40 points in the next 17 games to get around 6th place.
Ain’t gonna happen. Let’s just enjoy the good games and not get too pissed off at the poor showings.
Let’s hope Lambert can improve the team to the best it can be under the circumstances of the current squad and hope for a strong next season.
Let’s hope for another 30 or 35 points in the remaining games this season to indicate that we have turned the corner and have a good chance for next season.
I would settle for enough points to stay up, but then next season Fosun need to put up or ship out. If that does not happen another season of just the same yet again awaits.
I think Lambert is taking us in the right direction. For me the signings we made January were good signings and I’m pleased with that. we need a top draw centre half and a striker. I’m pretty sure we also need a top draw centre midfielder as the players we currently have in those positions don’t automatically pick their selves,. Most people seem happy with either Dicko or bod up front as there’s not much to choose between them. Different types of attackers but they are much of a muchness for me, it’s the same with the centre half pairing. Not much to choose between them and any pairing seems as good as another . really I’d like to see 3 quality players brought into the squad to make sure that we have a real chance of promotion next year. I know it’s a big ask but if we can win all our next home games we may still make the play offs.
Although I like the Video maybe the club were a bit Premature with the
“We could be in for a good time”..
We could be in for Relegation yet !!
Losing to Burton Albion is not my idea of a good time…
Newcastle next.. seeking revenge..,
its at times like this that I miss Amanda….come on my dear, tell us like it is…
How have we come to accept a defeat at Burton? And wearing lime green..?
We don’t need a sickly away kit…reversing old gold and black leaves no clash with any team on the planet, so why isn’t that our away kit?
Just hoping we are keeping our best team performance for Chelski
For a team that lives off the quick counter and lots of pace up front, a small pitch is always gonna make life difficult. Hey we shrank our own pitch when we were in the Prem just for that reason.
Mikey Burrows on the match commentary made the point that all the top teams had struggled at The Pirelli so we were in good company. Add to that their recent acquisition of Kights and our own excessive level of expectation and everything was in place for the roof to fall in on our silly heads. And so it duly did.
I felt a little bit nauseous afterwards but I’m getting over it now, happy in the knowledge that none of the aforementioned factors will come into play on Saturday.
My faith in the current regime remains undimmed.
Where am I?
I am in a beautiful pocket of rural Wiltshire; a lovely market town situated on the banks of the Bristol Avon. It was once part of a vast royal forest; a favourite hunting ground of Tudor kings.
This Town appears in the Doomsday Book and its prosperity was founded on agriculture and the woollen cloth making industry. Today the population is around 23,000 and it is the home of Cooper Tires and modern businesses based on new technology.
A beautiful historic quarter in the Town Centre features St Michael and All Angel’s Church, Canon Square and Church Walk. Nearby are the historic villages of Lacock and Castle Combe and the splendour of the Cotswolds. The friendly Town Centre is full of independent shops and plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants, with a regular Tuesday Market. Compact and easily accessible, its library, gym, swimming pool, tourist information centre and parks are all in easy walking distance of the centre.
The Town has a wealth of clubs and societies for all ages and tastes. The strong and vibrant community spirit ensures a busy calendar of events, including the Scarecrow Trail at Easter, the Food and Drink Festival in May, and the summer highlights of its Music Festival, Carnival, Party in the Park and Comic Convention. The popular Christmas Fayre features the highly anticipated switching on of the Town’s Christmas Lights, a spectacular display put on entirely by volunteers.
The local people take great pride in their town, and the effort and creativity invested in the Christmas Lights is matched by the dedication in adorning the town with fantastic flowers in summer.
There are some beautiful walks in and around this Town, including the Riverside Walk along the Avon. The Conigre Mead Nature Reserve is a fascinating and tranquil space hidden just a few minutes’ walk along the river. Managed by a voluntary team of enthusiasts, it is home to dragonflies, butterflies and the occasional kingfisher and regular Wolves Blogger.
The Kennet and Avon Canal also passes through the Town, offering a great bike ride or walk to the famous Devizes Caen Hill Locks to the east and Bradford on Avon and Bath to the west.
This market Town is gaining in popularity due to its ideal location and is a main gateway to the magnificent Wiltshire countryside. Several bus routes serve the Town, including the National Express from London, and trains connect to Bristol, London and Swindon. It is the ideal satellite base for visitors seeking reasonable, inexpensive accommodation and good eating-out facilities. Its position 10 miles south of junction 17 of the M4 on the A350 provides an excellent centre to explore nearby Lacock and Avebury and the attractive towns of Devizes, Bradford on Avon and the City of Bath.
Where am I?
Is it Melksham ?
Your turn, you won.
It is Melksham, I should know, I am that blogger.
I have just driven back through the friendly town, over the picturesque river Avon, past Cooper Tyres, from my Monday morning session at the gym.
I am about to leap into the welcoming shower.
If you’re in Melksham, why not drop in and see me?
Although you’ll have to wait until I’m out of the shower, we don’t want tongues wagging do we?
PS. In your excellent pen picture of the town of Melksham you neglected to mention one of the most famous sights – my lovely pond.
Mr & Mrs Twixfix and the PMDG’er are also famous sights.
That picture my friend is strictly copyright…
Have the paparazzi been hiding near the pond….
Good memories DOOG …especially as you cannot see my hands..!!
DOOG – that’s not a pond, its a moat! Clearly Twixfix and his good lady found a way to overcome your understandable defences and I see you are now enticing Brompton to have a try and I can’t get this image of you holding a large vat of boiling oil looking down from an upper storey just awaiting his efforts to gain access.
Cooper Tyres, Did that used to be Avon Tyres? A takeover by the Americans is what caused the name change I think.
Yes, that’s right.
Avon Tyres owned by Cooper Tires.
Typical Yanks, they can’t even spell the name of their own product.
No offence to all our cousins across the water.
In a fucking tent on the side of some road , probably !
Don’t start …………
Shit result v a shit team
Piss poor result we,should be,beating the likes of Burton
Four points, they have, had off us embarrassing
Better be up for Saturday game v Newcastle
Brompto, you are in the wrong blog, thats where.
And Doogle, that photo of Twixo, I’ve seen better legs on a table!!
Still up to kicking you in the Bollox….
Having attended the game at Burton, the thing that disappointed me the most wasn’t the performance or the absurd wearing of the lime green kit but the booing of Michael Kightly. I’m proud to be a Wolves fan and know that we have some of the most dedicated followers in the country but to boo a player who helped to get us promoted and never gave anything but his all in a wolves shirt really disappointed me.
I can think of many players that may have been justifiably or good naturedly booed over the years but surely Kightly was worthy of better treatment from us?
Couldn’t agree more sutton. Always a thrilling player to watch in the ‘Old Gold’ and still obviously loves the club.
Well said Sutton, bad show that booing someone who single handed ripped Wolves a new one on Saturday. We just did not have an answer to the lad. I used to love watching him play and he Loved Wolves, he attaches a little update for the awolves fans that booed him.
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2017/02/06/michael-kightly-wolves-fans-dont-know-the-whole-story/
Spot on Sutton, Kiights was one of the better buys Wolves made in that period- gave his all with plenty of skill as well. Gracious with his actions and words on Saturday. Man of the match too.
You how sometimes you see a picture and it instantly reminds you of someone?
How are you Clive me boy?
Must be great to be you, fantasizing about me………………….
I was working saturday and was day dreaming of my day out the week before at Anfield and it looks like Wolves were to.
What I cannot understand is I was expecting this result against Barnsley, I thought they would be the ones to bring us crashing back down to earth but I got the wrong ” B ” it was Burton.
And the I stupidly thought ” this is it son ” this could be the breaking of what seems like a 1000 year curse, ” we havevbroke it ” I said to my brother after Barnsley win ” we’ve broke it ” and the I leve my desk for a while click on BBC Sport Footbal for the final score and low and behold normality resumes Burto Albion 2 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1.
althought a lot of you are saying we won’t go down and I tend to agree BUT we not safe yet and MUST not get complacent because Wolves being Wolves…….well you know the rest..!
In the preview to the game I did that waxing eloquent thing that the corner had finally been turned and a golden future beckons. How embarrassing it now seems: Wolves as always brought me crashing back to earth. Added consistency was one of the virtues I ascribed to Wolves – got that right: consistently make you look an idiot.
For all the Doom and Gloom, at the end of the day, it gets dark.
Life goes on and We’re Wolves ay we.
Went up for tickets for the re-arranged Brentford game, you know the one, the one they had to replay because we were busy thumping Liverpool. The queue was right out the ticket office and round the corner. I spent about 1 hour queueing and when I came out the queue was even longer.
So we must be hardened to defeats like at Burton.
We can’t get our forwards to score for love nor money and Robbie Keane is playing for some Arab club, common sense that eh.
THE disgusting away kit. Just a long line of them. I still wear the top from 94 with the proper out of darkness badge. Although the G has fell off ‘goodyear’. That top has been worn with pride at far flung cricket venues. Galle/colombo (sri lanka). Durban/cape town (south africa). Brisbane/sydney/melbourne/adelaide/perth( australia). Reminds me back in 2006/2007 ashes tour. Think melbourne test ended early so we thought back to hotel or stay out on piss. Guess what. Stay on piss. Any way. Discover this boozer in a side street. About 3 people in it. So the bloke propping bar up notices the black country accent and me mate ‘steve bull legend’ t shirt. Yep. Wolves fan. Been out there about 5 years. Phones his aussie mrs who doe really understand as he proclaims ‘they am me fuckin brothers!’ . Any way he stops out with us for rest of afternoon and evening. Last seen bolloxed gettin in to taxi. Hope he got home allright !!
Does anyone know, anything about Williamson Lambert said he will be ready for either barnsley or Burton game
I’ve,started to think he is santa who just comes out once a year!
Saving him for Newcastle, hopefully. COYW
He’s crocked and we will be lucky to see him again this season……………more chance of of see Bully partnering Dicko.
I’ve been lucky enough (if the circumstances permit such a phrase)… to be one of the 50 fans to have the humble privilege to attend “Our Rachael’s” funeral tomorrow.
I’m sure many on here will wish her a safe journey on her way to meet up with Sir Jack…..
Definitely, like Sir Jack, ………ONE OF OUR OWN …..
Congratulations Mike. What a well deserved honour. Who invited you? Presumably someone who’s never met you? Only joshing chief. Will be thinking of the lovely lady and as ever on such occasions will be remembering the good times.
Big thank you too to Newark Wolves (Ian & Sue) who sent me a DVD they had made of the Liverpool v Wolves extravaganza. Will enjoy sitting down to watch it later. I wonder if Paul will be in it? Lol
She will also be meeting with our late heros, The Doog, Frank Munro, Waggy, Stan Cullis, Peter Broadbent, and of course Billy Wright.
No doubt she will stretch up to her lofty 5 foot bugger all, and give them the dressing down they most certainly deserve, whip “em into shape, and proceed to play and beat the other heros of yesteryear up there, Busby and his Babes, etc, etc.
RIP Rachel, you were good for our club.
Clive you are a romantic , after all the shit you come out with i thoutht you were just a Wolves Supporter . RIP Rachel. WE love You.
That’s nice Twix … I shall light a candle for her at mass on sunday .
She was a lovely woman
Well done Mike.
What a lovely honour for you.
Say a prayer for all of us bloggers, she was truly a nice human being.
And, more to the point. “One our own”.
Anyone who can make it to the square outside the civic centre, will be able to hear the service broadcast. Mrs Lowves and I will be there to pay our respects to a lovely down to earth and very funny woman. As said by many “One of our own”
Good man yourself Mike.
I’m sure you’ll represent us bloggers admirably.
Send our love to the lady.
Our inability to get fully motivated when we play teams lower down the division is a real concern. And why we have not got a right back in over January is baffling. Coady does well but if we had more cover he could go into midfield and if he got injured / needs a rest then we have to go back to the kids again. Okay if Ben Marshall goes into this role then thats fine, but I thought he was a winger.
The league form needs adressing and we should judge PL by his league form and position. The FA Cup is brilliant but if he thinks he can get away without playing his very best 11 players and thinks Lee Evans and Saville will dominate the midfield consistently then we will be mid-table.
What a wonderful send off for a wonderful Wolverhampton lady.
St. Peters was full with celebrities from the world of football, cricket, TV, media, and the lucky fans able to bear witness.
What was said about OUR RACHAEL was frankly incredible and certainly enhanced and cemented my own opinion of the good lady.
If Rachael wanted something…she just didn’t rest until her plans came to fruition….whatever means , fair or devious she employed.
To hear that she had raised £7.5 million for various charitable organisations beggars belief and form her humble beginnings of being a PE teacher to a Wulfrunian with OBE, MBE and BARONESS following her name just goes to show the meteoric incredulity of the woman.
Nice to see also Mike Gatting, Judith Chalmers and Angela Rippon and another Wulfruninian GODDESS…SUZIE PERRY.
My thoughts go to Rachael’s husband Derrick and family….may you forever light up Wolverhampton like OUR RACHAEL.
LOVE AND SINCEREST BEST WISHES ON BEHALF OF WOLVES BLOG…
Lovely post Mike
