Once upon a time, I couldn’t give my damn season ticket away.
Nowadays, things have changed! As most of you Blogites will be aware, I put my season ticket up for grabs for the Hull game, as I fly off to Ireland for a few days.
I would like to thank everyone who entered. I somehow feel indebted to you, even though it’s me giving the season ticket away!
Anyway, a diehard Wolves fan called Luke Brennan from Stratford has won the ticket, so he can look forward to an afternoon of champagne football and Kenco coffee next to my old man. Lucky boy.
I basically printed off all the emails I got, folded each piece of paper a number of times, and put them in a hat, which a mate plucked, so can’t say fairer than that. Good news for me is that a lad called Chris McCreery didn’t win. He is from Enniskillen, so it means I will be having a beer with a sane person – a prospect I have barely encountered before in Ireland. In my eyes, he is the real winner.
I feel I might be doing this again at some point later this season, as I always tend to miss another game, if past seasons are anything to go by.
I wanted to leave you with an open question about your favourite ever Bully goal. (Of course, the answer was 306) Purely subjective of course. For feeling of sheer jubilation and ecstasy, his winner against Birmingham at Molineux, 3-2, will be number one.
However, a left foot thunderbolt in a New Year’s Day win over Bolton Wanderers back in division 3, will live long in the memory. And what about his late, great winner at the Smethwick End in 89/90?
I seem to recall him smacking in a 25 yarder in a 4-0 home win over Bury at the South Bank End, when he scored 3, in 1988/89. That was the first time I remember Wolves pricking the conscience of the national media, and actually making an impression with the sporting scribes on Fleet Street. There was no ‘Barclays division one’ games that weekend, so Bully grabbed the headlines instead.
So many goals, so many memories. His 300th at home to Bradford also makes me well up with pride – A messy mishit from close range.
I thank you all once again, and thank Sir Steve Bull for just giving me yet another moment to reminisce!
Up the Wolves.

Got to agree with you Ben. That last minute winner at home to Blues in the 3-2 victory was sent from heaven.
I also enjoyed one he scored away at Barnsley in a 3-1 win when McGhee was manager. Typical Bully; stormed through and fired home hard and low from the edge of the box.
Remember that lob away at Norwich as well? Didn’t score many better than that one.
How about all 4 of the goals he scored away to Newcastle New Years Day 1990.
Another personal favourite was a looping header he scored away to Blues from the edge of the area, can’t remember the year.
Its always good to reminisce, I still watch my Bully – Goal Machine video any chance I get. Particularly when i’m drunk and am trying to educate any non-Wolves supporting mates i’ve got on what a real centre fowrard is like!!!
Hereford, Edgar Street, smash in the top corner, also sticks in the mind, not that I was there!
Derby hattrick away, when he rididuled Chris Short for 90 minutes, was phenomenal.
Derby away when he scored his 195th, beating John Richards?
I was at Norwich away when he went all delicate on us with that dink. Nice memory Thomas. Didn’t he dink one away at Port Vale when John de Wolf got 3? I loved it when Bully did that. Cheeky Bully.
Basically, any goal where he was 25 yards out, cut across the box, muscling off two defenders, before hammering it in the top corner would be up there. So that must be a shortlist of 180.
Always makes me laugh when those dozy pundits would say Bully would come alive in the box…Would that be before or after he came alive outside the box and thumped one in the net?
One of my favourites remains when he scored the winner in the 3-2 victory at Brammall Lane in 97/98 when he ripped off his shirt to reveal the “Mine’s a Double” T-Shirt! Class.
Totally agree with the Herford classic, and also the winner at the Poorthorns was awesome. The Smethwick end looked as though it had 50,000 volts put through it. His goal against Scotland was also a chamagne moment
Its a shame i never saw bully play, but the guy is an absolute hero. I agree with ed, the 4 he scored away at newcastle were brilliant, give the guy a half chance and you’d regret it!
i love the tackling on that video you hosted around 1:25 – 1:33. Full blown 50:50 two footed challenges, you’ll never see the likes again!
My favourite description of Bully:
“His first touch is poor, but his second usually ends up in the back of the net”
