So limited are the club’s achievements since the mid 80s, one of my favourite Wolves memories was an FA Cup quarter final.
I was at Elland Road in 1998 to see Don Goodman score the only goal of the game and Hans Segers turn away Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s late penalty for a fine victory against a much fancied Leeds team.

We’re the Premier League big boys this time, so hopefully we can avoid a similar fate against a dangerous looking Bristol City and advance to a quarter final where the prize for victory will be a trip to Wembley.
It’s a demoralising lunchtime kick-off but the atmosphere at Ashton Gate should still make for a wonderful occasion.

Bristol City
I definitely didn’t have them down as top 6 contenders this season so massive credit to Lee Johnson for having The Robins in the play-off places with less than a third of the campaign remaining.
9 straight victories (yes, 9) including 7 in the league have catapulted them into fifth and – like Wolves – they must see an opportunity here to really attack this competition with so many of the heavy hitters eliminated.

They’ve disposed of Bolton and Huddersfield already to reach the fifth round and have generally done well in the cup competitions in recent years.
It took a late, late penalty to see off QPR and keep their winning run going in midweek, but confidence will be high regardless.
Former Wolves man Andreas Weimann is a possible starter and he was instrumental when we upset the odds at Liverpool a few years back.
Wolves
It’s got to be the strongest team possible Nuno. I can make peace with Ruddy in goal, but the other 10 should be the boys that started against Newcastle if everyone is fit.

Obviously if we win nobody cares, but it will be a bit galling if we go out having not given everything to progress, which means starting with your best players.
I suspect one or two more fringe players might see some action with at least one of Cav, Costa or Traore getting a start. Of that trio it would be Cav for me.
The likes of Vinagre and Saiss have generally done well whenever they’ve played so I wouldn’t be upset if one or both came in I suppose.
But the midfield is key, as is Jimenez up top. I hope those things are retained at all costs.
The poll
[interaction id=”5c66dc21fa4bf2b12a7ac7d4″]Predictions
No Prediction League points going in the cup so just for fun and I’m backing us to get the job done.
I believe it’s straight to extra-time and penalties if scores are level, but if we field a strong side and play to our potential we will win the game in the regulation 90.
I think City have a few cup-tied and/or injured so that could also play into our hands. Hot atmosphere so we need to weather a likely onslaught at some stage.
2-1 to us.
Up The Wolves!

I think they may prioritise the league and making the play offs so could field a weakened side and as long as we put out a decent strength side we should have far to much for them. I’m having to record the match and watch it later as I’m on a course but I predict a comfortable win and then a march onto Wembley.
4 – 1 Wolves. No worries. Too much made of Bristol City.
They’re a very decent second division side and 4-1 would be long odds if we make even a couple of changes as evidenced by the struggles against Shrewsbury. Extra time beckons methinks and Traore can then exploit their tiring defence.
Cup has to be top priority for me so full strength team please.
My first away day since boxing day, cannot wait. Come on me babbies!
How anybody could consider not playing the full strength team is beyond me . We don’t have another game for 6 days and this may be a unique opportunity to at least get to a semi final . I for one will be seriously pissed off if he chances it by not playing the full side . The only change might be Ruddy who I think despite his error is still a top goalie
Just watched Wolves Vs Brizzle in 1998, David Connoly stuck 4 past them in a 6 goal win for Wolves.
So purely on that basis, I’m sticking with that but this time round Jota to get 4 Jiminez 2
Hope to Christ I don’t see a Hearse with flowers around the coffin, spelling Stuart. 🙁
Bristol City 0
Wolves 6
They showed last season that they had the basis of a good side and even tho’ they have made changes (Flint and Reid sold) their recent run has to be respected. But if we go full strength there is no reason why we can’t win this one.
Last cup game I went to I think was an fa cup game was I think a replay against Tottenham at Arsenal’s ground. Think Ricky Viyella and ozzy ardilles and I think we lost 2-0 – perhaps someone with a better memory will tell me ?
Anyway think we should play our best team to get through to the last 8, Jota was either shattered or had a knock against Newcastle so would play Cav there as for the rest in Nuno We Trust.
I was at the first one at Hillsborough it was 1981 we drew 2 – 2 with a penalty at the end from a Kenny Hibbitt simulation dive.
At the beginning of the game we thought the Spurs fans were doing a pitch invasion but it was a crush in the Leppings Lane end….had the authorities bothered to learn from it, it may have been the saving of all those poor Liverpool fans years later.
In the replay Spurs beat us 3 – 0.
Got to be our strongest 11, I just want to see us in 1 FA Cup Final in my lifetime…..
Hi Norsk l was there that day l look back at it now makes me go cold.
what could have been avoided 8 years later.
Really was a disaster waiting to happen but the cover ups can never ever be forgiven from Thatcher down
A close game which I think wolves will win 2-1
Time to put out a full strength team with squad/u23 players on the bench for a run out in the last 20 – 30 minutes if appropriate. 3 – 1 Wolves win in regulation 90.
Dear Nuno,
Please put out a strong team on Sunday, because all us Bloggers are desperate to get to Wembley and, contrary to what Morris Pinocchio, the Spurs manager who’s team play there all the time says…
…Winning trophies IS important!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we go in at full strength we will take a step nearer to our dream.
2-1 will do for me.
Completely agree with Thomas. Keeping the midfield and Jimenez the same is the key for me – we have to stick with the same shape i.e. 352.
I’d be extremely surprised if Jota was to start due to his recent knocks. Cav simply has to start in that instance – he’s the only other player we have with the ability, composure and tactical awareness to play that second forward role.
I’d even keep Rui in net but it’s the modern way with cup ‘keepers isn’t it.
I’d only play Saiss in defence if he was to feature, but even then I wouldn’t want to unsettle the back line.
There’s no denying Bristol City are in outstanding form so we simply have to go with our strongest team/formation possible.
Bloody nervous already for this. It’s going to be a tough, tough tie. We’ll squeak it by the odd goal.
Could not agree more with yours and Thomas’s views on what is a potential banana skin. Bristol will go for us from kick off and we will need all our nous to maintain control. Maintaining the midfield balance is key, going 3 up front would leave us overrun and we don’t want anymore last minute dramas, exciting though it maybe. Let’s get this done. 3-1 win for the lads.
Spot on re ‘control’ – 343 doesn’t give us that, and a rampant Bristol could play through us quite easily. Even at times last year we could be susceptible to allowing teams onto us, which Bristol did until they went down to 10 men.
Convinced Nuno will play Raul and stick with 352. Think Traore will play if Jota’s injured but as we all know that’s not his natural position. Hopefully some useful performances v Shrewsbury and that cameo v Newcastle will get a performance out of him.
Conor Coady and Matt Doherty have both signed new contracts taking them through to 2023.
That has made my weekend!
That, and a meal at The Sign of The Angel in Lacock with the PMDG’er tonight.
A glass or two will be raised in celebration.
I’ve sunk a pint or two there in the past DG. Enjoy.
That’s a long way to go for a pint!
It’s our favourite eating place. Great food in a great old pub.
I know. I could only have one ’cause I was driving. But the whole village is the epitome of ‘Olde Worlde’.
Let’s have a decent cup run, not another game for six days so let’s go for it. 3-1 to the Prem team. COYW.
I was over in England at Christmas visiting family and had the misfortune of being taken to Stoke v Bristol City on New Years Day. Stoke battered Bristol City but lost the game 2-0 with both goals being calamitous defensive errors. Bristol looked a really poor team against Stoke, they sat deep, virtually on the edge of their area for the whole of the game and other than the two howlers they never really threatened Stoke’s goal. How they have gone on such a long winning spree is completely beyond me.
If Wolves turn up on Sunday, they should have no issues against Brizzle, if and only if they turn up!!
What a weekend in prospect ! Please Mr Nuno a strong eleven . Jimmy must start up top and Neves in midfield. Give a run out to Gibbs and maybe Vinagre but other than that stick with a strong team . I, like many other bloggers would love a day out at Wembley . Last time I was there was for the Sherpa Van Trophy…seems light years ago !
Anyone seen the new Coca Cola Premier League advert…brilliant…. features Wolves quite a bit too ! (look it up on YouTube)
As I live and breath I don’t feckin believe it ! Merson has only got us down as winning (albeit in extra time) . Lawro is more confident and reckons we will get the job done without the need for extra time !
And as if it couldn’t get any better ….the vile and the shite go head to head and for once I hope the vile beat em . Dirty cheating bastards – Mr Gayle hang your head in shame . You Sandwell retard .
Wolves 2

Loads of Wolves fans going in their end, loads of tickets available, you can get them on-line (even with a Wolvo postcode) so a London postcode will be ok

FWAW
Best behaviour Phil, best behaviour.
Can’t wait to see you in action on Sunday.

That doesn’t rhyme stu
Must be a Bloggers photo shoot after we win me thinks! All meet outside after match?
Thoughts?
Can’t see us messing this one up even though it might not be too easy. So:
Bristol City 2
Wolves 3
If Wolves treat this like they’re playing a top six side in the league, it will be no problem. So best team forward playing their best football.
0-2
Gowolves!!
Nuno,
It’s Wingy – and don’t say who ? You signed my programme at Sunderland last season and you spoke to me in the foyer of The Novotel before the Palace game. Can you please play a really strong team on Sunday ? I want my football team to play at Wembley one more time at least in my lifetime. I was there in 1980 when we beat the s**t, no, not WBA, the real s**t football club in this country , I live there – have I mentioned on here that I really don’t like them ? I was also there in 1988 when Wolverhampton moved to London for the day. For this football club to get to the FA Cup final would be MASSIVE. Forget your Mancs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpools, football fans around the world would love “little” Wolves to get there AND win it. You are a legend to us already but win this and you will be up there with the greatest people to ever set foot in Molineux. Please make an old man very happy Nuno.
And no pressure but me and Sue have booked a hotel at Wembley already. It was only £80 but to a school caretaker that is a weeks wages. I don’t think Sky, BT, BBC, CeeBeebies, The Disney Chanel or ForestareshiteTV can change the date so please let me cry myself to sleep and wake up on cup final day knowing that WE are there.
No pressure then Ian. 🙂
Wouldn’t you just love a bloggers day out at Wembley though mate. Hope you are well, haven’t seen you since Spurs in The Quadrant. See you soon.
Ian,
Which hotel?
RikRak
There are 6 of us also booked into the Premier Inn, Uxbridge, for the Thursday and Friday, if we don’t get through we’re having a couple of days in London anyway.
I know of others that have also booked up to stay in London.
Uxbridge is a great Premier Inn and is 5 stops from Wembley on the tube, with free parking at the hotel.
If you pay the bit extra you can cancel up to 3 hours before on the day.
Hiya mate
It is called The Arch on the Harrow Road – a 5 minute walk from the stadium. You pay nothing up front and you can cancel at any time, it’s a win win really.
I will book there too mate.
Good to see you on here … don’t be a stranger buddy.
You Silver tongue’d devil you.
Sorry – not about the much anticipated Bristol City game but there was an interesting piece by Jamie Carragher this week that over simplifies the situation regarding the top 6 and the possibility of another team disrupting the balance of power in English football. Money ? definitely does not equal success – in that he is absolutely correct. However I would make a couple of points.
The BIG 6 is a relatively new concept. I don’t recall Manchester City or Spurs being considered defacto premier league titans a few years ago. Liverpool have only seen a resurgence in the last few seasons, Man Utd are currently a team in decline, albeit on a brilliant recent run ( last night’s reality check aside ) Chelsea are on a slippery slope and Arsenal are consistently inconsistent. Let’s not forget Leicester didn’t just recently make it into the top 6 – they won the title just 3 seasons ago ! I’m just trying to illustrate that the top six label is temporary, not written in stone for eons to come, never to be challenged.
The second point is that all the indications are that Wolves are not just throwing money in to the mix and hoping, fingers crossed, that it leads to regular European football. Far from it.
On the surface we are deservedly sat in 7th place in our first season back in the premier league, having had a brilliant promotion winning run last year. We are playing the same or similar style of football with most of the very same championship team intact. Despite our super rich ambitious owners being two and a half years in, our biggest signing so far is £18m. Yes it’s a lot of money, but by Premier League standards – not really. We’re hardly splashing the cash. Still on the surface, club PR – never a foot wrong. Dig a little deeper. Cautious but exciting step by step plans to enhance Molineux and develop it to 40,000 plus capacity – check. Fantastic state of the art training facilities – check. Comprehensive, thorough scouting network – check. Strong academy set up with homegrown players coming through – check. Links to local school and provision for talented individuals from further afield to settle and develop in Wolverhampton – check. Strong ties to local community and fans further afield – check. Huge potential to grow the brand ( come on but Wolves ? has to be one of the easiest things to market ! ) in China and Asia – check.
Unlike some of the teams JC mentioned , West Ham, Everton, Aston Villa for example, not only do we have the comfort and reassurance of our owners deep pockets ( remember they are an investment business ! ), but we have, without doubt, the very strongest foundations being laid that would point to a very stable and bright future and I would not bet against us breaking into the upper echelons of the premier league ( top 6 ) consistently in the next 7 years. The only word of caution is that we have perhaps over achieved so far this season and are ahead of the owners expectations so let’s not get too carried away in the short term. This is after all a long term project and I think Jamie Carragher has maybe underestimated Wolves chances of this plan and ambition succeeding.
Stay focused and humble.
I saw the Carroughger comments & thought back to when Cithe were proper shite & it’s not that long ago.
Problem with a lot of these ex-players that can’t manage/coach think that only the perceived Top Six will remain in the top six.
Let’s keep under the radar & then look back in 5 years & PMSL at the pundits
Proper FWAW
Do we think he has any more knowledge of Wolves situation than the guys who said Wolves would struggle to stay in the league and then admitted he never watched Wolves play?
With our team knowing that Bristol have been in good form, I don’t think they’ll be complacent, in fact they may be a bit nervous, and need to be 100% to repel early attacks. Hopefully then settle down and show our class.
2-0
This could be a real thriller, and our boys will need to be on their metal if we are to progress to the quarter’s.
Ruddy in for Rui and Cav in for Diogo, as I think he’s still feeling an injury. Otherwise, same line-up please.
Despite Brizzle’s best efforts, I’m confident we’ll have too much and we’ll end their hot streak.
Brizzle 2 v 3 Wolves AET.
COYW.
Brizzle are one of our favourite teams. They haven’t beaten us at Molineux since King Harold had his eye out and we usually do very well at Ashton Gate. I have seen us win there 6-1, 5-1 and 4-1 as well as an Andy Mutch injury time winner in a 1-0 scrap in about 88/89. So we like them. No reason to believe the sequence is gonna change Sunday. If anyone is going in the home end be careful. I have seen serious bother at Ashton Gate in the past. I remember bricks and bottles flying from that park over the road and running battles. There was trouble down there against Swansea a couple of weeks ago so have your wits about you. So now I have cheered everyone up it is gonna be Brizzle 1 WWFC 3. Wembley here we come !
Cheesie,
Any chance to get the cat in the pitch again.
If one puts in an appearance we’ll all know it’s down to you & will probably PMSL
The cat has inspired me to poetry. …….. NDC for next doors cat. For as he sat upon the mat. The post man came and wore a hat.So disturbed was the cat. He fled and caught a train that. Was going to Bristol Temple Meads. Off he got and caught a bus. He didn’t like any fuss. He came upon a football ground. He sneaked in and then he found. He was on the pitch just like before. The men in gold were once more. Three one up like Goodison. The cat moved round the pitch did run. Evading literally every one. But sure enough he had to go. Because he’s bad luck to Lord Nuno. But never mind the cat will be back. This time at Wembley he don’t look back. Three one again the men in gold. The FA cup for Connor to hold . And back to Wolvo the team return . Around the town at every turn. King Nuno holds the cup aloft. On the open top bus he has a loff. And sure enough at the back he is sat. Yep it is the lucky black cat. How’s that Rick Rack ?
Cheesie, in reposte:
Our poet laureate you must be.
& I picture that cat, sat on your knee.
At Ashton Gate if one is there.
I’ll piss mysen and then I’ll dare.
To dream we’re off to Wemberley
With bloggers galore in a Cortina, mark 3
Returning with the silverware, the team, the cat & me with no hair.
But don’t forget, it’s just the start.
Next year in Europe, we’re tear em apart.
With Nuno & Jeff & all of the boys, they’ll know that we’re coming, they’ll hear all the noise.
FWAW
I like it Rick Rack. I can see poetry becoming a focal point of this blog. As long as there is no fog. As I sit upon the bog………………..
Brizzle away!
Should we start a just giving page to pay for Nuno’s fine on Sunday?
Goo on Nuno gee it to em.
Oh & the score
Brizzle 1 : 3 Wolves
We’ve not really got our Eurozone contigent buying into “The magic of the cup” yet and I think that might be critical. Even with a nearly full strength side I think they might want our scalp more than we want theirs so for that reason alone my head says a narrow loss but I hope come Sunday teatime I’m eating my words.
2-1
Just hoping Nuno has got the message that fans looking to go all the way in this one, only the strongest team possible will do for me.
Bristol 1
Wolves 3
I’m a Guardian junkie ..and their analysis today of the ownership/funding of the Champions league quarter finalists makes sobering reading ..and also reassurance …our team has the requisite heavyweight backing to go toe to toe with the big guns of Europe over the long term….thank you Fosun.
Brizzle has strong backing too and they have transformed the club in recent years.
I was shocked to see how impressive their ground now is when I flew over to see the last but one game we played there…a desperate afternoon when dangerous dave scored a consolation goal and their crowd crowed that we were f ing shit ( we were)
The highlight of the afternoon was blundering into Wolfstroker and his mates in the beer queue before the game..that made up for all of the bad stuff later on
Then, last season, we played with 10 men and there was the sensational finish …Douglas to ..the MAN! ( I was watching on my phone from Arizona….OMG)
So where does all of this preamble take me?
This is no walk across the street…their place will be buzzing and we will need our best team and our best stuff. But afterwards we might get Watford at home and a time for payback,,,then Wemberlee…Wemberlee
UTW
2-1 to the Old Gold..maybe in extra time,,…but whatever
There was no ‘blundering’ going on Marin. It was written in the stars.
Besides which, anyone will tell you that if you want to find me, look first in the beer queue.
Lovely day though, apart from the football.

First time for sooooo long we have a great chance of getting to the final. I have no doubt that Nuno will put out a strong side, though it seems Jota will miss this game. I would like to see Cav in his place.
Nothing is easy these days but I think we will have too much for a very good Bristol side.
I am going down to Bristol on Friday to vist the Hi-Fi show. Will be proudly wearing my Wolves shirt, win or loose. 🙂
A win it is then.
It’s disgraceful and totally out of order I know but I dare you not to laugh out loud when reading why we are now one lady supporter short for 3 years………
she thought it would be funny to drop a pie on a poor old West Ham supporter’s head. Baltie didn’t see that coming!!
The right wing press make a big deal of it because it is a female that transgressed. Guarantee if that was a bloke that did it it might have been a couple of paragraphs on page 12.
Kidding ourselves we can beat Bristol with a below strength team will see us get beaten up.
It needs as near a full strength side as possible for this one absolutely no doubt about it.
Full strength team 2-0 win
below full strength 2-0 loss.
Just saw the Brighton win against Derby. Derby just didn’t have the quality and missed chances to equalise at the death. Scoring at the death is something we kind of specialise in. I hope it’s not needed tomorrow.
I like your team Thomas, it should really pick itself. As strong as possible but with Ruddy getting a chance. If Jota is injured I’d play Cav. Traore is a better sub than Costa these days but we are overdue a blinder from Helder.
This is a match we really must win, no excuses. I’m backing as to win 3-1.
I’m at Stamford Bridge on Monday night for the Man U game. The draw for the quarter finals is straight after. I understand that ball number 1 in the draw is Bristol City or Wolves. There won’t be an ‘or’ by then…
As promised, the latest Fans Parliament minutes, well worth a read guys and gals…
https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/club/20190217-fans-parliament-minutes-february-2019/
Cheers Stu . I will read it later on.
I know this is wishful thinking but I’m desperate to get hold of two tickets to Liverpool away or even Chelsea away .
I know what you gonna say but one can only hope
Rumour has it tickets already being exchanged for £6k Dodgster. Hope you get your wish – could well be a an I was there moment.” Good luck!
Blimey that much ! I will stick to united and arsenal at home . Really fancied an away day . Huddersfield anyone?
Is that right that the woman who threw the pie at the West Ham match has been charged with affray and bentos ?
Bit worried about this. I think we will need a virtually full first choice team or Bristol will be more than a handful. Nuno has indicated that Jota is not fit and that there are concerns about a few others. Don’t want to be a killjoy but I think we could be in trouble. Hope I am proved wrong and that we get a win but not going to predict a score. Could end up going to penalties.
Nuno must field his strongest side possible or else we will lose, because we all know how the FA Cup can upset the balance no matter who you are.
So come on Nuno do your self a favour and the fans and win it for what it is THE FA CUP.

Taking some inspiration from Cheesie’s poem’s & picking up Stu-meisters challenge of providing a song for Leander Dendonker, well I’ve collaborated with the talents of a local singer-songwriter – Miss RickRack Wolves and here’s hoping I can buy her some new school shoes with the £1,000 prize…. so here’s “a song for The Donk”….
Sung to the tune of “the Wanderer”
Leander is the guy
That we like to have around
Not always in the team
He’ll play at any ground
He loves to play with Neves,
With Joao & the boys
He scored up at Goodison
You should have heard the noise.
His name’s Dendonka
And he’s a Wanderer
He is a Wolf, he’s in the Pack and we are Back!
Voting has started with immediate affect, £10 from each vote goes to “save the RickRack fund” and any calls made after the closing date of 31/12/2025 may not be counted but will still be charged….
Sex pistols tribute down Bilston. Ah ah ah …..
Late on parade.
Sorry.
Tomorrow, to paraphrase Mikey Burrows, twenty million Wolves fans will be going absolutely bonkers at full time.
Bristol are on a good run in the second division, which needs ending.
Wolves, in case we all forget, are a Premiership team, with aspirations for glory.
This season we will let someone else win the league, as we are concentrating on The Cup.
All hands on deck, twelfth man especially, and we will be in the draw for the sixth round.
Anyone fancy Millwall away?
Hopefully I can find a feed at 7 in the morning.
For once I was not too bothered about the shit winning today.
Their fans are saddos, never to see the light.
Villa fans are just abhorent.
New big word for the week!!
Big roars tomorrow, all you lucky sods going to the game.

I’ll send you a “wish you were here” card Clive, eat your heart out baby.
Thanks.
Ya bastid!!
Clive, sat in Tabaca Road in North Street on our second pint and it’s only half ten, seriously wish you were here. Come on you mighty Wolves.
Can’t watch this one unfortunately so will have to wait for the snippets coming through the bbc
This will be a classic imo. Traore to start and course mayhem
3-1 to the boys
This is the year
These are the days
Utw
So nervous about this.
I see Saiss is in for Neves and Cav for Jota – and Ruddy, of course, for Patricio.
Wolves to win 2-1, everything crossed.
Never in doubt!!
We are in the last eight for the first time in sixteen years – dare to dream folks, dare to dream.
Phew that was close! Brilliant first half, doing it in a canter. 2ndhalf holding on, bloody hell their keeper nearly scored.
Great to be in the rotating ball for the quarters. Hope for a home game. Good to see Nuno being against VAR when they showed Doherty’s handball 2nd half! Up the Wolves.
What was great about it was the massive effort to get a result. Which we did. Brilliant . Anyone but Man City in next round please. FWAW.
