Wolves couldn’t be more midtable.

18 points, 13th position, 20 goals scored, 20 goals conceded.
For every up there’s been a down, for every fist clenching victory there’s been a punch in the gut defeat.
I don’t know what will happen tomorrow and still haven’t a scooby doo whether we’ll finish closer to the top or the bottom.
It’s all up for grabs.
Bristol City
Like Wolves the previous campaign, City won League One comfortably last season and probably had high hopes about their Championship prospects.
But they’ve been in and around the bottom three all season and despite Steve Cotterill’s protestations, they certainly aren’t in a false position.
Only bottom club Rotherham (27) have conceded more goals than City’s 26 making it tough to consistently pick up points.
And a record of just two league wins from 14 outings must be improved upon as soon as possible if they’re to avoid an immediate third tier return.
Wolves
The starting XI had a nice balance on Saturday and I see little reason to make changes, injuries withstanding.

All good teams normally have a blend of youth and experience as well as raw athleticism and technical ability.
In that sense the extra midfielder and the addition of Mike Williamson at the back ensures more of those key attributes make it onto the pitch.
I really enjoyed Nathan Byrne’s performance against Blues, tucking into pockets of space and running at their back four. More of the same would be lovely.
All of the midfielders (even Coady) occupied scoring positions on Saturday, which was pleasing to see, taking some of the burden away from Benik Afobe.
The gaffer
Predictions
We always seem to do well at Ashton Gate. I don’t remember many defeats in recent times.
It would be useful to win this one too given there’s a tough looking home fixture against Burnley on Saturday.
But my gut instinct is a score draw and given the team’s consistent inconsistency that’s probably not a bad bet.
2-2
Up The Wolves!

No brainer, this one.
Five different scorers, 4-0 up by half time, and Doogle to streak across the pitch five minutes from time.
Speaking of lumberjacks, I used to be one.
Honest.
My mates used to ask me where I worked and I told them that for a few years I worked in the Sahara Forest.
They all said its the Sahara Desert, and I said “Well that’s what its called now”
The last time I saw you, you were walking alongside the Olympic park in London with a roll of chicken wire under your arm.
It was very mean of Doogooder to tell you that Fencing was to be part of the Olympics that year.
Thick Texan.
So THAT’S why you turned up with a load of cameras, jewelry, watches, TV’s and vcr’s!!!
AS YOU HAVE STOLEN MY ” CONSISTENTLY INCONSISTENT ” FROM LAST WEEK I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ! (lol)
I’m going for a hatful, Kenny has said, “there will be changes” so it appears he thinks we will play them off the park.
Well methinks the same team will be played as it gave us such a boost on Saturday and there are no injuries.
Stability would be nice uncle Kenny.
So…..
Afobe 3
Henry 1
Batth sent off for 2nd yellow, Wolves running the show.
Second no-brainer comment on this one…(following CfH).
We usually do well at Ashton Gate and me thinks another 2-0 to the boys …that’ll do nicely ….
Hopefully we can do enough to come away with a tidy three points.
I’m with you Bagsy.
COYW!
If Jackett sticks to the same team I think we should be ok my only concern is they haven’t won for a while and we are notorious for ending other teams bad runs.
If Jackett does decide to tinker it would be to put Price in midfield instead of Coady I still think Price complements McDonald, Coady I’m yet to be convinced by he is liable to get carded tends to comitt more fouls than price.
Anything less than 3 points would be disappointing these are the sort of games we should be winning if we are serious about promotion.
I don’t know if the Blouse result was the light at the end of the tunnel or the headlight of a train coming in the opposite direction …. Tuesday should give us some idea.
Edwards seems really to be developing the knack of being in the right place at the right time which for me, is just about the most useful attribute a footballer can have – let’s hope he keeps it up at BC.
A nice pair of Bristols could mean several things. Including a Benik Afobe brace. Nathan Byrne will definitely score. Swindon/Bristol etc. So this means 3 goals already. Wolves enjoy Ashton Gate as a rule and have dished out a few beatings in recent times. 6-1, 5-1, 4-1 all spring to mind. Going for 3-1 on this occasion.
I think the expeirience thats been added to the squad will only benefit the team and given more game time together, results will improve i think.
Bristol City will want to end there run of poor results, but i think Wolves will have to much for them.
What a difference a bit defensive knowhow makes, even Danny looks better now he’s not looking after others . Only question why did we have to wait until it became desperate before action was taken. We could and should be five or six points better off.
Such a relief to see someone getting the defence organized at last.
It seems habitual among us to have emotional roller-coastering between promotion favourites and league one wannabees, based on our last 90 minutes.
Blues weren’t very good…but we did have the TV curse to handle and so I’ll swing with the rest and assume we can take take of brissle city ( but if we can’t I’m back in relegation fear)
I wouldn’t put it past us to have a blip such has been Wolves’ inconsistency of late, but with our firepower I feel that we can win handsomely against Brizzle.
Should do enough to get the 3 points
It’s time to predict a win again after last week’s performance, after all these guys lost 4-1 at home this week to a team ( Fulham ) who we beat 3-0 away. Form says it should be a walkover. Thereagain it’s Wolves we are talking about, so who knows!
Pivotal away fixture ..we are in the ascendancy..
Even KJ would be reluctant to change this team..
In theory if we play like we did at blues then we should get a pair and a half of Bristols..
If we give him the ball Afobe s going to be very hungry ..
Let’s keep going…3pts
COYW
I agree mate. Benik will want to make up for his self confessed “poor game” and will come out on fire.
I believe this will be a massive scoreline tonight, so:
Hope we don’t change it too much from Sat, get the first goal tonight then I can see 3 or 4,Henry, MacDonald, and ofobe the scorers,cc’mon the wolves.
I really enjoy the match against B’ham.
More of the same, please.
3p in this one, and a exiting game against Burnley coming up in the weekend.
This may be closer than a lot of us think. Saw Bristol play Cardiff on TV couple of weeks ago and thay were easily the better side.
Hopefully we have now turned the proverbial corner and the lads will continue to improve. Would still like to see Ikeme in goal instead of Martinez but KJ is getting as stubborn as Mad Mick on some players.
Agree re: Mad Mick, loyalty is all well and good but blind ingnorance is another that contributed to McCarthy’s exit.
A trip down the M5 shouldn’t prove to difficult a task. Same lineup and resolve should see us bringing home all 3 points.
Then onto Saturday for 3 more to end a great 8 day run.
I can’t see much to disagree with when I read the comments above.
Same team for me. No reason to change a winning formula, especially against a team struggling to achieve in both the important facets of the game. ie Defending and attacking.
Aye – same team, same result will be the order of the day.
I actually think we’ll win this one quite easily but I’ve gone for a Bristol win in the prediction league in the hope that my loss prediction on Saturday was portentous. Not that I’m superstitious or anything.
Well that didn’t bloody work…
We always do well at Ashton Gate and on the back of last weekend’s results for both teams I think we will do well again and win. The addition of Williamson has added that little something that just about everyone on here knew we were crying out for – experience – so I feel another clean sheet in the offing.
Afobe to score at least one. Oh and of course Dangerous Dave ‘El Magnifico’ Edwards will score too though it’ll probably be off his shins or his shoulder or his backside. The third goal will be a screamer fro long range by Coady.
Lumberjacks the world over will rejoice in unison (or whatever trades union they belong to).
I’ve seen a couple of really good wins at Ashton Gate recently and I see no reason to suppose tonight will be any different.
Except for the fact that I won’t be there due to a long standing fish pond deepening arrangement with a mate who has offered to help.
It’s a long story but he isn’t in the slightest bit interested in football and he’s staying the night to complete the job tomorrow, so the least I can do is keep him company.
I hope that we don’t CATCH a cold tonight and we NET a few goals so I won’t CARP about the result tomorrow.
And anyway, it’s his spade.
I’m not going to be COY (KOI, see what I did there?) about my prediction either.
Wolves to win and have a WHALE of a time.
Not a fish, but who cares?
Will you be waiting for the result with BAITed breath? Will we score a late winner to get us off the HOOK? If only we had Tommy ROE on the bench!
No more fish puns!
A little while ago this complete stranger threw a big lump of Cheddar cheese at me. I said to him “that’s not very mature”.
Holt to partner Benik up front, dangerous Dave on the bench as we change to 4-4-2 for tonight’s game.
I liked the look of Byrne on Saturday, he has a lot of potential.
Onwards & Slightly upwards
This is a must win game. We’re already losing touch with the play-off zone and that still has to be the aim for the season so we have to beat the weaker teams. Burnley on Saturday will be harder, especially with so many ex-Wolves likely to score against us, so we must win tonight.
One Swallow doth not a summer make…..
Ashton gate is generally a happy hunting ground for us so, buoyed by the win at Blues, I’m going for a sub-Clive 4-1.
I’ll be at the theatre watching the importance of being earnest so won’t be at Ashton Gate… It doesn’t beat deepening a fish pond as an excuse.
Perhaps another mini run prior to the international break. UTW
Same again, please.
Back-to-back away wins would be very nice but I don’t expect BC to go down without a fight.
We’ve too much quality haven’t we?
No tinkering please Kenneth.
Doogooder & Blacklace,
I’m having an affair with my home help, so “I’m going to be at the match tonight and won’t be home til really late”
Now that’s an excuse.
I’m only joking here, I’m not going to the game,
I’m round at Doog’s house hoping he changes his mind and goes to the game.
🙂
Wolves quickly go 2-0 up and KJ rests key players for Burnley.
We have to win this, surely!
They’ll be looking for a reaction tonight after a disappointing result against Fulham. It was said in the preview wolves are a mid table side which I completely agree with. That’s why I don’t think we’ll be up for it tonight we’ve nothing really to play for. I know it sounds stupid considering its only November but our inconsistency which speaks volumes. We’re to good to go down but not good enough to push for promotion
I think we will do very well
Can’t see us losing this one, we are a better side than them. Simple as that. COYW!
Hope I am the odd man out in predicting a loss…
C’mon you Wolves….
Oh for an ‘A-Fo(r)-Be’ Hat -Trick!
I’m sure we’ll win this one, maybe by more than the three. I’m assuming that Jackett plays Coady for his physical challenges, but tonight I think he may go with Price to support Mc Donald, and get more of those though balls played up for Afobe to get some goals.
Just like the current weather I haven’t the foggiest how this bunch will perform tonight. Let’s try a narrow win.
In Jez “Championship CEO of the Year” Moxey we trust
Let’s put them to the sword
Gonna go with my predicted score against the blouses ,2-1 .but hoping for more.
I think we need 4 points at least from 2 games to go into the international break.6 points would be fantastic.
UTW.
Maybe a tad optimistic but sod it ! Why not !!
There’s a surprising amount of optimism in the predictions, given that predicting has been utterly unpredictable this season. But having banged on for long enough about the need for some experience to balance the team, I will stick with the view that it will produce the points tonight, with a rather better performance than the last Tuesday night outing against a team starting Br……. And keep der gefahrliche Dave/Le Davide dangereux right in there, eh, DGer?!
Gotta win this one, but probably be a tough first half. Finish strongly!!
Utw!
If KJs statement ” we’re two players away from being a good side” is true, then Wolves have to win here.Surely they wont serve up a dose of that rubbish we’ve seen at Cardiff,Derby, etc.
I actually do think Bristol City are a better side than the table suggests, they were impressive against Forest though got tonked by Fulham! Bit I’ve discovered a new wave of optimism after Saturday and think we’ll do it.
Forgot to mention my prophecy Blues will go down again tonight against Blackburn.
Was hoping to go to this game but lack of funds prevented me, so I’m bound to miss a cracker! Wolves win 3-1.
Even though its half time and we are 1-0 down I still think we will win 2-0!
I’ll say this politely, but they’re the most unusual half time substitutions… what is going on ?
I hope Kenny gets this one right.
Bit late putting this on so hoping for a win.
Listening on WM sounds very poor. ‘Cant string 3 passes together’.
Unbelievable but bloody predictable WTF
What a load of bollocks
Third division beckons
Oh, FFS. Reckon we’re confirmed also-rans for the season now.
Just been following it on bbc sport text. Difficult to judge how it went, but just five shots with 2 on target is not acceptable. We must score goals to win a game, and when we dont that puts more pressure on our defence not to concede. Not good enough!
As I said at half time, subs were very strange. Tactically all wrong by the looks of it.
Can’t believe we went from the Saturday performance to that second half showing.
Not happy. At. All.
Why Afobe taken off half time was he injured another teams bad run we have ended.
I can’t believe 2 shots on target mid table at best and I mean at best. Another false dawn to add to the many…!
Just when you think it’s safe to feel hopeful again we go and do that. Kenny Jackett, nice man that he is, has lost the plot. OK he is operating with both hands tied behind his back but his team selection and his substitutions beggar belief at times. You line up as 4231, then you switch to 442 by pushing Edwards out wide despite having two wingers on the bench and then when chasing the game at 0-1 you take off a midfielder and bring on a defender? WTF? As Brompton said just 2 shots on target is rubbish. Why bring Graham back from his loan spell at Oxford if you’re not going to play him? Even for ten minutes! Why keep Ojo, who has consistently impressed from the bench, sat there kicking his heels? It smacks of desperation and if Grant fecking Holt is reckoned to be the way forward then that way is backwards.
Unless and until we get a buyer we will continue to be like this. A poor inadequate squad consisting of loanees – five in tonight’s squad FFS! – freebies, kids and lower league ‘bargains’. No quality, no cohesion, no idea. Afobe will go in January with none of the money reinvested – it will all be destined for Mirgan’s pocket with a bit diverted into Moxey’s of course. Next Summer it will be adios to Iorfa, Hause, Batth, Dicko etc. Steve Morgan you are a stinking little pathetic Scouse shithead.
Thoroughly depressed. What a wasted opportunity.
And just take note, Edwards had it in the back of the net again.
If I saw him right now he’d get it in the back of the neck! And in the face.
Season looks over to me. I know for some fans Kenny is an innocent bystander to the follies of the board but he has made a mess with selections formations tactics. Doesnt seem able to motivate and connect with the players this time around either. Morgan could see this happening and just turned his back.
well you lot can consider yourselves very lucky, you only had to listen to it, I had to watch the SHITE, absolute SHITE.
Kenny Jackett FFS, why would you take Byrne off?, why would you take Afobe off?, he’s always worth a goal no matter how bad he’s playing.
Grant Holt and ALF didn’t have a shot in the entire 2nd half.
Every player Barr Byrne and McDonald had the wrong legs on, it was a complete and utter shambles of epic proportions. this was the worst team we have played this entire season, they were dire, but they stuffed us good and proper.
Then Kenny Piese de resistance is bringing Feckin donkey Doherty on, we are losing 1-0 lets go for not bring a defender on.
Guys and gals. King Kenny is a good Millwall manager but for Wolves he is treading water with sharks circling him.
It was a pathetic, inept, lethargic non-performance and most of the team did’nt turn up.
We did’nt deserve anything, we were SHITE.
How on earth he can pick a team for Saturday is beyond me, he has no base marker to work from.
Poor, poor show, hang your heads in disgust you shower.
:-(( :-((( :-((((
After tonight I have decided not to be a lumberjack any more. Think I will take up hitting myself in the face with a brick. It will be more pleasurable than supporting Wolves. And cheaper. If I didn’t have a season ticket I would not be going on Saturday but even then it might be my last time for a while, possibly until a new owner comes in. Well done on making the trip to Bristol tonight – I have thought for a while that you are one sandwich short of a picnic!
Oh yes, did I happen to mention it was SHITE.
The total cost of our team that finished the game tonight was £1.75m. It included 4 loanees. They say money can’t buy you love but it sure can buy you a decent football team!
Holt becoming a bit of a donkey immobile…. how can we play so well at blues and then we don’t turn up at Bristol..?
Open play I know at St Andrews but surely… has KJ been out foxed yet again?
Normally I would be saying change the manager but in the past we have been able to attract big name managers like Taylor, Hoddle ( ok he was dire but still a big name) and McCarthy. If Jackett went now who would we get? Who in their right mind would want to join us right now?
i Know what your saying, but much more of this tinkering we will be in the real mire something needs to be done, but then again Morgans not bothered Moxeys not bothered.
God knows where we will be come May…!
Garbage. How can the same team that played so well against a top 6 team on Saturday perform so badly against a bottom 6 side? There was no tinkering from Kenny so what is it with these players?
Second half Kenny then loses the plot – what a bloody mess!
Jacket must take some of the blame ,But come on wolves players what the f:–k was that.
Mate of mine who went tonight said its the worst he’s seen in years no passion and definitely no PRIDE.
I fear for us come Saturday,I dread to think what will happen if we play like that.
The pity is we can’t do anything but support them,That’s it period. UTW.
We got lucky against Blues. We got the first goal through a defensive error and that allowed us to play on the counter-attack. Nevertheless, I don’t think many would have argued with sticking with the same starting 11 as the 4-2-3-1 suits us and Afobe is our most prolific striker. I thought he was poor against Blues and I’m guessing he was poor again tonight but the blame for tonight’s rests entirely with Jackett. The substitutions and more specifically the formation changes were absolute shockers. 3-5-2 apparently (according to KJ’s post match interview), presumably with Golbourne and Henry as wing-backs. Someone should have at least mentioned that to the players. And when it wasn’t working? Come on, we were all thinking it: What this team needs is another right-back! He’s totally lost the plot.
Iv’e never seen such anger and disappointment as tonight at Bristol, these guys here are the die hard away season ticket holders who not only buy a season ticket but then stump up another £50 to be an away ticket holder to attend every game. The guy behind me has every single home and away program since 1950 barring two, so much wolves memorabilia that he could open a museum.
They wete booing the team when they came over to the fans at full time, these are the guys that always have a good word to say about the team. But,they have lost patience, lost faith and lost heart after tonights poor show, and who could blame tnem, yer pays yer money yer get to moan.
I’m Scottish, so I will keep going until my season ticket runs out, next year I’m 65 so in the concession bracket and my season ticket will be half price, so as every good Scot loves a bargain I shall endure more, but I hope to God someone somewhere can come in and sort this crap out.
Believe it or not, even the express and lie told it as it was tonight, (Ben’s rattled a cage).
I fear the worst for Kenny, tonight was all of his doing, the team didn’t help his cause but his team selection 2nd half was bizzare even by his standards.
Very eloquently put Stuwolf. Having come away from the Blues optimistic we might be turning a corner, I came away last night feeling deflated. We have, at best, too much mediocrity in our team, and when the better quality players such as McDonald and Afobe don’t perform, we look like a team that will be battling relegation at the end of the season. It’s pointless analysing individual performances as every player was below par but my biggest concern would be how to get Afobe firing again, he simply looked disinterested in putting any effort into the role he is being asked to play. We also can’t blame KJ tinkering in the starting line up as it was exactly the same as the starting XI at blues, although his second half decision to bring on docherty rather than graham or ojo beggared belief. On Saturday, burnley are a well managed, well motivated team with elements of quality a la Derby, Middlesbrough and Hull. I genuinely fear we will get tonked, not necessarily in terms of scoreline but in terms of the gap in quality between what a serious promotion contender looks like and us. Roll on 50 points and the summer, I’ve had enough already!
The problem is at the top.
How can a footballer wishing to advance his career, play for a team whose owner doesn’t care whether you win or lose?
It must affect the whole spirit of the team.
Until we get a new owner who stamps the club with his wish for it to do well, we will continue going downhill….
We need a new owner, a new C.E.O. and new manager.
If we did, with the footballers we have, we would be nearer promotion than relegation.
The latter, with each game, becomes more of a possibility….
Bring on conner Coady
30 points from 30 games should just about get us safe !
B loody frsutrating being a Wolves fan. Frustrating because it is
R eally difficult to understand how you can play well one game and
I nstantly show no signs of consistency the next. Totally baffling and
N othing makes sense. The team in the first half was the same as the last
G ame. Then why KJ made the changes he made is beyond me.
I am getting a tad tired of all the talk about how good the opposing team played
N ot about how poorly we played. KJ needs to sort this inconsistency out now.
C ome the end of the season, I do not want to look at the table and comment
O on what could have been, what we could have done, what we did not do,
N or do I want to think about the goals we conceded or the goals we did not
S core. We must start to play with some consistency now, start the game with
I mmediate impact, thrust and a desire to win. I am not seeing that from the
S tart of each game. After one game we all say, wow didn’t we play well,
T hen the next we are saying how badly we played. Surely we can not be
E xpected to accept that, we want and deserve much more that what is
N ow becoming the norm, inconsistency. Will I follow Wolves regardless?
Y es I will – but all I ask for is some consistency – we have the ability.
Well at least price may get another run out! well who knows based on jackets names in one pocket and positions in the other selection policy! having said that he is being let down massively by the players. A few too many egos me thinks have slipped thru the alleged due diligence process!! Or their attitudes have been ignored due to being cheap
Mike ..the players didn’t play well but it’s all indicative of the coaching and tactics…this match was an easy fixture to ride some points and KJ blew it.Again.
Hear. Hear. Sad but true. Thanks for your email Steve.
Just watched Kennys interview for Burnley, Kenny reckons there was enough in each half (Bristol City) for the fans to cheer about……unbelievable .
He is slowly turning into McCarthy the self publistist he believed his own press.Talk about deluded…!
