The 2-1 win over Bristol City back in March looked like being the catalyst for survival.

After snatching victory from the jaws of farcical defeat in that game we went on to win the next two, pushing up towards midtable in the process. Talk about a false dawn.
The prospect of relegation to League One felt apocalyptic back then. Yet here we are just months later riding the crest of a wave as we head to Ashton Gate for a third tier encounter.
I think everyone felt energised last weekend seeing what our young side could do when their tails are up. Sure, Gillingham were poor but the manner in which Wolves put them to the sword gave us all renewed hope.
Bristol City
City also scored four goals last weekend yet somehow contrived to be on the wrong end of the scoreline at Coventry (in Northampton).
Prior to that they drew their opening league game of the season 2-2 at home to Bradford and scored a 2-0 League Cup win over Gillingham in between.
Sean O’Driscoll has been operating with the proverbial shoestring over the summer having to also contend with some of their bigger names leaving.
Stead, Anderson and Adomah have all gone, replaced by the likes of former Arsenal man Emmanuel-Thomas and the familiar presence of Marlon Harewood.
From the outside looking in, I think they’ll do very well to even be contenders for a top six finish. That’s not to say they won’t turn us over on Saturday of course.
Wolves
The squad has been bolstered this week with the arrival of Kevin McDonald from Sheffield United. As with all players I know little about, I hopped over to their fan forums to see if they were bothered by his departure. The fact that many Blades fans seemed genuinely gutted he’s left makes me believe this could be a great bit of business.
I doubt he’ll start though. Can Kenny Jackett really change the side after the manner of last week’s victory? I don’t think so:

My one big concern with that team, particularly away from Molineux, is that they’re susceptible to being bullied. I think if a team got stuck into our midfield, we’d struggle to cope. In that sense then the bigger physical presence of McDonald might prove to be a shrewd acquisition.
Unless something happens tomorrow, we’ll still have Doyle and Sako playing, which is a major plus. Doyle in particular brought some much needed poise and control to the forward line against Gillingham. Bringing those balls from midfield to attack is crucial for supplying Griffiths with the ammunition.
The odds
Wolves are slight favourites for this one with odds of 6/4. Bristol City are available at 9/5. The draw is probably the best value at 23/10.
Unsurprisingly Leigh Griffiths is the most likely first goalscorer with odds of 9/2, but City’s own hotshot Sam Baldock is only at 5/1.
A repeat of last season’s 4-1 win for Wolves is available at 40/1 if you fancy a dream return to Ashton Gate.
All odds available here.
Predictions
Well done to gib wolf who only went and got the 4-0 scoreline spot on last week. He alone takes the maximum 2 points on offer.
43 others got the correct result without the emphatic score, so it’s a single for all of them.
I’ve updated the table so you can check out your position by clicking here (or by using the link at the very top of the page). Please do leave your predictions as numeric scores (e.g. 2-1 Wolves) as opposed to written out (e.g. two one to Wolves). It just makes my life easier totting everything up.
I fancy the draw this weekend, which would be a decent result. I’m hoping for respectable away form and strong home performances. Molineux hasn’t felt like a fortress for a long while.
2-2
Up The Wolves.

Uhm – robin predicted 4-0 too last week didn’t he? As for Bristol was expecting a tough test but if their defending was anything like against Coventry…
3-1 win!
Thanks Hamlet was going to point that out!!!!!
City 0 Wolves 2
2-1 wolves. Would like to get a look at macdonald. Seems to have a good all round pedigree. Happy to see him sign
Heart says away win but head says you’re spot on with this one. Stick me down for a 2-2 as well.
Like much of what i have seen so far will stay positive and say we will edge it 2-1.
(second Hamlet think Robin did say 4-0 in his prediction comment).
2-0 Wolves. I think the clean sheets keep coming, even away from home. Form is rounding out as well.
Bristol will tighten their defense, however i fancy Doyle & Griffiths to break them down, my money is Wolves 2 – 0 Bristol City
I’m going 2-0 Wolves with Doyle getting both, see you all there
Pessimistic. Last week was a blip. Bristol City 2 – Wolves 1
Optimistic, 3-1 Wolves
Brissol 0-4 wolverhappyton.. we ARE Barcelona of the black country !
2-1 win to Wolves and another Griffiths brace.
2-1 Wolves win. Doyle finds the back of the net!
We have done well at Bristol over the years.
Trend continues for me.
Wolves to win 2-1
I agree with the unchanged lineup but am really excited to see the new signing. It’s almost a shame that we’ve strengthened in an area that is probably the most solid. It’s only a matter of time until McDonald gets into the first team and I’m afraid it might be to the detriment of a very promising young player.
Bristol 0 – 1 Wolves
After following this Informative Blog for almost two years I am now encouraged this season to join in the predition league. Bristol City 1 Wolves 2.
Keep up the good work Ben and Thomas and may the regular bloggers continue their humourous banter.
Wolves 2-1 winners I reckon, they’ve a few injuries and a very thin squad. Good time to play them I hope. Griffiths to get them both or maybe to share the goals with Zeli.
How good it feels to see our kids taking their chances to shine, a few wins and the added confidence that will bring and I reckon we’ll be unstoppable this year. Kevin McDonald should fit right in too.
Loving the KJ revolution 🙂
We’re getting going now. Fancy Leigh G to net again this weekend against Bristol. So its Bristol City 1 Wolves 3 for me this weekend.
A hard-fought Bristol 2 Wolves 3.
Wolves to win 3-1
Bristol have proved they can score, so can’t see a clean sheet this time.
Think we have the more potent firepower however.
Come on me Babbies.
2-1 to the Wolves, some more of last week please.
COME ON ME BABIES
I know that if we’re going to challenge for an automatic promotion spot that runs of consecutive victories must become a regular occurrence. But I just can’t switch into the mode of thinking that considers we might do that…. yet. The hangover from seasons of disappointments has not yet dissipated from my psyche.
On the other hand I’m determined to be optimistic that we’ll remain unbeaten until past Christmas so I’m going for a 1-1 draw.
Peering deeper into my crystal ball I can tell you that the point will be secured through a direct free-kick goal scored by Sako after 73 mins, Wolves having fallen behind in the 15th minute of the first half. Stick a fiver on it and you’ll be laughing.
I too shall also be picking up my winnings on Saturday, a cool million and half after correctly predicting the numbers in the lottery – no hang on – the mist falls and then clears once more – I have the right numbers, but I forgot to purchase a ticket. Now, I see you too, laughing even though you lost your fiver.
Bristol 0 Wolves 2
Early days but signs of promise.
Let’s not get too carried away. 1-1
2-1 wolves. A new number nine is born
Both teams scored a lot of goals last saturday. Bristol city’s defence isn’t exactly rock solid, so I’m not surprised if Griffiths continues his scoring form.
As it is an away fixture I would definetly play McDonald over Doyle. Cementing the central midfield should absolutely be a priority. At the same time his creativity and passing abilities would give us momentum in counter attacks.
A 2-4 victory to Wolves.
Bristol City 1 Wolves 2 (Doyle, Griffiths)
Let’s hope Griffiths, Doyle, Sako and Ismail are too much for their defense.
2-0 to Wolves, I say.
COYW
More joy for Wolves, but a first league goal conceded: Robins 1 Wolves 3
What’s a winning streak?
3-2 Wolves
A winning streak is when you race on to the pitch stark bollock naked, kiss Leigh Griffiths full on the mouth after he’s just scored his third goal of the game, and get off before you’re grabbed by the fuzz!
Thinking about it though, although I admire the wee Scot as a player, I might just give him a peck on the cheek.
A winning streak is what you get on clean sheets from a squeaky bum.
I’m still waiting for a buxom woman similar to Erica Roe to streak on the pitch and kiss me (google search if you can’t remember her and the coppers helmet)
wolves 4 – 0 griffiths 1st goal
Y’all will be pleased to know we got our a.c. replaced yesterday, I didn’t have to sleep in my truck and Mrs Clivefromhouston is a happy bunny.
City 1 Wolves 5
I will be right once this season.
Not with predictions like that Clive!!!
I am going for a sombre 0-7.
Nooooooooooooo . not really. Bristol 2 Wolves 3 – I hope I am wrong though as I really do want us to keep another clean sheet.
UTW/FOWB
Dunno if you know clive ,But McIdiots son has gone on loan to brighton for the season.
It would be good to take a look at the new signing but Evans deserves to hold his spot, has to be the same team and City 1 Wolves 2 (Doyle and Bath)
Going for a repeat score of last season when we were at home.
A solid 2-1 to the Wolves
Since both teams scored 4 goals last week and since sports results always seem to be the opposite of what you expect, I’m forecasting 0 – 0. (As you can see, the footballing analysis is forensic…)
Defensively we look far too good for this division, even if Harewood`s pace may cause problems on Sat. Got to keep a clean sheet on Sat, then score 3 goals of our own. So 3-0, three points and for old times sake, and Clive from Houston forgot FOWB
Great win and performance last week. Best I’ve seen us play at Molineux since the 2-0 win over Fulham in 2010-11. I think since we’re in excellent spirits and Bristol City will be a little deflated after their surprising defeat to Coventry we can sneak it.
1-0 Wolves
Leigh Griffiths to clinch the winner. C’mon the Wolves! 🙂
Going 2-1 wolves. I think a good run is on the cards. I hear good things of Mcdonald. The Burnley fan in the office says he’s good but is liable to give up if the going gets tough – he went to the pub after being subbed at half time in his last game for Burnley. Hopefully a good run of form will keep him keen, but we need to avoid the premadonnas of the kast few season and get people generally keen.
How nice to leave a game and just smile. not only the result but the confidence shown by OUR young players . Don’t care what league we are in it was pure joy. As for this week I’m going 2-2. Shame if Doyle goes he made the space for the kids to play
It`s as close to home as it gets for me,I`ll be happy with 1- 0 to us.
COME ON YOU WOLVES !!!!!!
I’m going to let myself get carried away here and go for 2 wins on the trot … why not? 🙂
Bristol 1 – 2 Wolves
Btw, Thomas, i thought I predicted 2 correct results so far (though wrong on the scoreline both times). Wouldn’t that see me at 2 pts in your table?
Let’s not get carried away guys.Remember the start last season after beating two relegation contenders – we thought we were world beaters. I will settle for a 1-1 draw.
Wolves win 1-0
Sako to score
2 – 1 win to Wolves.
Nice to see McDonald signed, sealed, and delivered. He’s long been considered one of the better players in the division, and one of the Blades’ top players. About time we signed players that ‘make sense’ rather than kids who never get a game, or incomprehensible signings.
Wolves to WIN by a score of 2-0
Not getting carried away by the Gillingham result, Wolves are still very much a WIP and early season results tend to be all over the place.
1-1
New to the site and an interesting read.
Gonna go for Wolves to win 2-0, defense is looking good this year.
Bristol City 1 Wolves 1
City are better than last sesaon under O’Driscoll, and Batth/Steaman will need to be alert to Baldock.
2-1 Wolves
Probably over excited cause i’m going to the game, but i fancy a repeat of last year’s result, Brissol 1 Wolves 4.
I’ll plump for a solid 0-0 draw.
Is that your cunning plan this year KW, 0-0 every game?
Dash it. I’ve been rumbled!
City 1-2 wolves doyle and ismail 😉
I don’t want to get carried away over last weeks performance and the fact they conceded five to the Coventry Cobblers so a draw for me.
1-1
This will be a stern test of our back 4 and I fear the league cleansheet run will stop here. However, I’m optimistic that we’ll get something from the game. I’ll even stretch my optimism to steal a vital 3 points away from home.
The Bristols (Titties) 1-2 Wolves
Griffiths, Doyle.
Interesting to see Mr. Ward heading to Brighton as a left back…. I hope he gets a chance to shine but fear that his defensive frailties will be found out. I wonder if they know that the only reason he was a left back was because we didn’t have a better option in the MM days and he wasn’t good enough as a striker. Still, Good Luck to him on his season long loan. I like Brighton a lot having spent my Uni days there… so I’d like to see them pushing for promotion again.
Up the newly rejuvenated inspired young hungry determined enthusiastic and spritely Wolves!
I am in a positive frame of mind and will consider nothing less than a win tomorrow.
I would love to see us repeat last season’s score but I don’t think City will be as poor again.
I’ll go for 2-0 to Wolves
See you outside the ground Martin.
Bring your Bother Boots!
Sorry Doog, as you’re about a foot taller than me i am totally relying on you to provide the fisticuffs. Ably supported by the Present Mrs. Doogooder of course. I’ll be right behind you.
Gonna go for Wolves 2 – 1 Bristol City.
UTW.
By that, I obviously meant Bristol City 1 – 2 Wolves. Let the ‘U DNT EVEN NO IF WE R PLAYIN AWAY OR NT U BAGGIE NOB’ bashing begin.
Over here, the fixtures are always shown as team x at team y, which is totally confusing.
So, either way, you were right, so don’t worry about being classed with them from sandwell, they cant even read or do joined up writin’!!
Last week will breed confidence close, but I think we will sneek it
Bristol 2-3 Wolves.
🙂
3-1 to wolves new season new hope
Agree with the starting line up. You can’t make changes to a team thats just won 4-0 but i expect to see McDonald come on as a sub at some point in the game.
I think Bristol should do okay this season and I expect them to be up around the play offs. O’Driscoll is a good manager and Baldock, Harewood and JET will score goals at this level. I’d be happy with a point away from home but as they have a leaky defence I’m going to let my heart rule my head and predict….
Bristol 1 Wolves 2
While I think Bristol City will be a top half team, I’d still like to think these are the games we can win. I’m going for a 2-1 win for the Wolves.
BC 0 – 1 WW sako on the score sheet. A tougher test this week but we have what it takes at both ends of the pitch, another clean sheet for me. COME ON WOLVES!!
Tougher opposition than Gillingham I reckon, although I think the confidence will be high and hopefully that will be the deciding factor.
Bristol 0 – 2 Wolves
UTW
Woeful defending from Bristol last week – they are certain to address that with O’Driscoll at the helm but I still fancy us to put them to the sword Bristol 0 – 3 Wolves.
1-0 Wolves. Stearman header from a corner in the 67th minute…
Morning all
Going for 1-1 on this one (ruling with my head, my heart says a win!!)
Going for a win Bristol City 1 – Wolves 2.
I think the team will start unchanged but would expect McDonald to be on the pitch at some point.
BC 1 – 3 Wolves, inevitably Harewood will net for City
So excited for this one, I expect Brizzle to score so I’ll go for Bristol City 1 – 3 Wolves Griffiths to hit a brace and McDonald to grab on on his debut.
Bristol City 1 Wolves 2.
Wolves 2 – 1 Bristol City
Wolves ay we
Hope you have got the starting 11 right Thomas.
Feeling very positive after last week. Also, we have a good record at Ashton Gate.
Like the look of Lee Evans, but still not convinced about David Davis.
Prediction is Bristol 1 Wolves 3
P.S. Good Luck to Stephen Ward who has been a loyal servant and a bargain for us. Agree it’s time to move on though.
Another left sided player with a surname beginning with W leaves us, but this week it is with much joy and celebration in the Houston household.
4 years too late, that useless sack of shit Ward has gone, albeit only on loan, for the whole season.
Is there anything in the rules that would allow Brighton to send him back as unfit for purpose, or some other such excuse, coz they will soon find out that he aint a footballer?
I had a few beers in quiet celebration last night when I saw this wonderful news.
Now, the drunk and the Hollywood wannabee, who on earth will be stupid enough to want them???
Brum Mail reports that
‘Roger Johnson was fit enough to play for the under-21s in midweek but declined the offer.’
O’Hara at least had the sense to see that he’s got to play if he’s going to get away. Looks like ‘the drunk’ simply intends to sit it out and collect the money…
can you even believe the knob gets a choice whether to play or not…we should be able to sack her !
can you believe she gets a choice to play or not … sack the knob!
You really did (do) not rate Ward at all do you? I just hope he has a blinder on loan so that they buy him. He can then show how pants he is afterwards!!
UTW/FOWB
Bristol city 1 Wolves 1
Bristol City 0 – 3 Wolves
We’re an all time high, we’ll take on the world and win, doing so much more and falling in love. We’re an all time high!
I agree with WolfyB- We should have far too much for them in attack and are stating to look solid at the back- a win-win situation. 2-0 to the Wolves.
2-2
BC have conceded lots of goals so far. But they’ve also scored a few. Should be an entertaining match if you like goals
Katherine is back from her concert and currently cleaning out the unicorn enclosure. I popped over to see her and asked her for a prediction. She was knee deep in unicorn shit but smiled at me and said – “Easy win for Wolves 2 – 0”
So I am going for a 3-1 win for Wolves as Katherine knows as much about football as Jes Moxey 😀
Have to dash now as my ‘Dodo’ needs exercising…. “Katherine wash yourself and get a grip of this….!”
Peace & love to all ??
if lsd was free on the nhs id hide behind a mammoth attacking my purple lawnmower… anyone for a pimms ?
After their result last week you’d surely expect them to tighten things up a bit but I’d also expect us to get on the score sheet. Hopefully Griffiths can keep the goals flowing. Don’t think we’ll manage a clean sheet so I’ll go 2-1 Wolves.
Well, I haven’t started very well so I need to get some points on the board.
Bristol C 1-3 Wolves
2-2 draw for me.
UTW
Tricky one to call….they’re scoring goals for fun – and conceding as many .
Happy days for the Griffo ??
Bristol 1 Wolves 4
Ciderboys 1 Wolves 3.
Prefoction:
Bristol 2-1 Wolves
Sorry, a bounce back this time..
Start of a good run for us…wolves to win 2-1
3-2 wolves for me please Tom.
Well done to the lads for winning so well last weekend, sounds like the wolves players were really up for it, from the report i’m guessing bristol still know how to find the back of the net so this is another tough test of our credentials.
come on me babbies!
Bristol City 0-3 Wolves
I’m going for us to win again,1-3.Lets keep it going lads, its early days but I think we have something with these kids, and with the signing of McDonald it can only get better.
UTW.
confidence is high, team will get better, Griffiths on fire, Wolves 3 Bristol 0
4-0 to the Wolves! Griffiths hatrick , Come on me Babbies!!!!
nearly peed myself with joy when I saw Ward gone to Albion, then I read the detail. Still good news. Godbye to a loyal, trier who was and never will be a full back despite all Micks BS
2-1 to Wolves come on me babies.
Recommend watching Petr Jiracek’s fine open goal miss from this week’s Hungary v Czech Rep. game on youtube – it’s a classic of the genre!
Good miss but meh I’ve done worse on a Sunday morning.
1-1. Siggy goal on 80mins to salvage a deserved draw
Well they seem to be able to score, just like us. But they seem to be more porous. Away from home. 2-1 Wolves win.
Wolves to win 2-1
What a wonderful week, now I want more of the same. Bristol 1 Wolves 3
Wolves 2 Bristol 1
Can I have a point for my 3 1 Gillingham prediction?
Every point is a prisoner
I believe in Leigh Griffiths and I believe in this side being a promotion contender. Famous last words.
3-1 Wolves
Late goal from Griffiths for the win and to keep the momentum going
Bristol City 2 Wolves 3
Wolves 2-0 Bristol city
Not expecting a goal fest every week…
BC 0 – Wolves 1
1-2 wolves win (fingers crossed)
Macdonald could be a very good acquisition. Its important to try and improve the squad. Having said that I have never really been a transfer junky, expensive buys that dont work out can become millstones around a teams neck.
The new money in the Prem just seems to be churning round the same old names or bringing in more players from abroad. At least our situation is going to give home grown young players a genuine chance.
2-1 to wolves I reckon
Wolves win 2-1. Griffths with the winner and the skipper to score from a set piece.
2 – 1 to us.
We wil score, concede, score, then have a frantic last few mins!!!
And we’ll still love them even though we have a heart attack every time they do it to us!
Wow, 120 posts and not ONE person has predicted defeat as far as I can see! It’s great to see everyone so positive.
I just hope the youngers don’t buckle under the massive weight of expectation from our fans – and I hope we go easy on them if they hit a run of bad form.
That said, it’s hard not to get carried away on the back of last week, even if it was against one of the weaker teams in the league. But, to put things in perspective, over half of the likely starting eleven also started in the defeat to Morecambe. This is a young team that will need time and support – win, lose or draw.
To those lucky 2,200 crossing the Avon today, enjoy the match and roar on the boys like there’s no [need to have a voice] tomorrow! 😀
Wish I was there, Brizzle isn’t exactly a beautiful city but I’ve liked its atmosphere the few times I’ve been there.
3-1 wolves win.
fantastic performance last week alot alot of positives to take from it, tougher opposition today but i still see it being fairly comfortable for a wolves side now looking like being united and positive after 3 years of negative and unrest its a pleasure to see! im going for another clean sheet and wolves to win it comfortably 2-0 come on the wolves!
Bristol City 1 v 2 Wolves
It was great to leave the Molineux with a smile on my face last Saturday. More of the same today, Wolves to win 2-0. Come on me babbies!!
Trying to not get carried away but Bristol 0 Wolves 2.
fantastic Result again today.
Well done Wolves the pride is slowly returning into this club..
keep it going.
Good win today. Telford Wolf prediction absolutely spot on. Polished your crystal ball ?

Clive ‘the times they are a changin’.
