Victory at Griffin Park was the catalyst for survival last season. This time, our aspirations are greater.
It was good to bounce back in the cup, but even more important for rectifying last weekend’s defeat is putting some more points on the board.
That should be an achievable goal given that our next two fixtures are against the two teams currently sitting in 24th and 23rd position.
Yes, it’s early days but both Brentford and Millwall have gone four games without getting a victory and it can’t all be down to bad luck.
Brentford
Dean Smith believes his side have been playing well enough to win games and from the bits and pieces I’ve seen of them, he’s probably not wrong.
They play attractive football and have good technicians, but like Wolves they have to earn the right to play their intricate passing game.
Keeping things tight at the back has been a problem and the nine goals they’ve conceded already is the reason they’re at the bottom of the pile.
If they go a considerable way through the season letting in over two goals a game, it’s going to be a long old campaign for the Bees.
But I suspect they’ll come good. They obliterated QPR 4-1 in the cup on Tuesday so that will give them some confidence going into this one.
Wolves
Nuno has some real headaches over team selection for this one after so many did themselves proud at St. Mary’s the other night. I don’t envy his position.

Would I play Vinagre over Douglas? Price over Saiss? Cavaleiro over Bright? Deslandes over Miranda? Honestly, I have no idea.
What I would say is that I don’t want to go back to making three, four, five changes to the team for every single league game so my approach would be evolution over revolution.
You might bring in Cav and maybe one other, but I’d keep the nucleus of the side that has generally performed very well in all the league matches to date.
Predictions
Theoretically, this should be a decent game for Wolves. If both teams want to get the ball down and play and it becomes about who can retain their shape and then find the right passes, you’d back us to win out.
I’m nervous because I think Brentford are due a good result and we’ve put a stonking great target on our chest with our summer transfer business and all the ‘best team in the league‘ plaudits.
But I have confidence in our coach and the group of players, so I’ll back us to get back to winning ways.
2-1.
Up The Wolves!

Back to winning ways.
PL table updated too boys.

Jackomac off to a flyer! But Danny V and a host of others hot on his tail.
Following a disastrous but self-inflicted – and very noble – start to the Prediction League 2017/18 where I am currently like a broken pencil (pointless) I have decided to take stock and get serious.
So I have spent a large chunk of this past week analysing all the statistics.
I have studied the current form.
I have scoured the history books.
I have been on numerous Brentford websites gleaning information about their injured players, style of play, strengths and weaknesses and their likely starting line-up.
I have watched and re-watched, umpteen times, every video recording of every minute of every game both we and Brentford have played this season.
I have checked the weather conditions for Saturday afternoon in West London.
I have looked intensely into the performance of the appointed referee and other match officials.
I have looked at the betting odds from 16 different online gambling sites.
I got my son-in-law to produce endless spreadsheets and pie charts detailing all the possible permutations given an inordinate number of variables (no, I have no idea what that means either).
The upshot of which are two very definite, crystal clear and indisputable findings.
Firstly that Wolves will win.
Secondly that Neil Warnock is still a c***.
OODCL
p.s. looking forward to meeting up with Matt (London Wolves Loyal) and the great guys from the London Wolves Supporters Club in The Globe in Windmill Road before the game tomorrow.
Bedders, if i had known. I would have joined you in the Globe and bought you a beer. Have a great day. Great post by the way !!
We will win, I have seen it in the stars.
Whatever team Nuno puts out will be good enough to beat Brentford.
I have also just bagged my tickets to see Robert Plant and his Sensational Space Shifters at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Monday November 20th.
Which is cool!
It’s also, coincidentally, the day before the Leeds match – which Clive kindly pointed out to me yesterday.
Which is doubly cool.
It’s also the same week that we play Bolton on the following Saturday.
Which is almost bordering on cold.
I am at present trying to persuade the PMDG’er to take a few days off work and, instead of jetting off to Greece, spend a week in Wolverhampton in late November.
It sort of sells itself doesn’t it?
One thing you can be sure of, it’ll be bloody freezing!
I will therefore bring my scarf ……….for the Tuesday evening game v Leeds. See you in APV no doubt.
Hopefully mate, hopefully.
I see a clean sheet back again for this league meeting and a further 3 points. Great start so far.
I am hopeful of another win but I worry a lot that the promised striker addition will not happen .Without one I fear for us later in the season .It is all very well having a strong defence but without the firepower up front history shows that teams do not get promoted .The striker should have been first on the list not last .My optimism is still rather muted but hope Iam wrong .
Hmmmmmm. This sounds ominous. I wonder why I am agreeing with everything you have said!
Back to winning ways Saturday . It has to be back to winning ways on Saturday. I would keep the same 11 as started against Cardiff with Cavaleiro still on the bench. Goals from Boly and Jota. Come on you Wolves
Just posted this on the last thread before realising we’ve moved on to Saturday’s fare.
Click on the link, scroll down past the ad’s and there’s a 4 minute video on the Southampton game, if that don’t convince you to back the boys with our stregnth in depth then youv’e clicked on the wrong blog.
http://wolvesrumours.co.uk/wolves-banter.php
Based on the fact Iv’e seen every minute of every game and I’m still getting excited, I can only predict one result.
Wolves 4- 0 Brentford.
I am taking my Granddaughter for her first trip on an areoplane to Fuerteventura on Saturday so this will be my first absence, so Bedders, as you have my tickets, shout and scream like a lunatic, clap every one of our brilliant four goals, applaud every lost ball and in general have a feckin great time because up to date I have (even the Cardiff game)
We are coming of age.
Rising from the ashes.
Pressing re-set to factory settings.
COMB’s
Stu – I will represent you as best I can with your OAP ticket. A packet of Wurthers Originals in one pocket, a packet of Polos in the other, walking stick in one hand and if anyone asks me to buy a drink I will affect a Scots accent and say “Eh? I cannae hear ye”.
By the way any idea why the Wolves ticket site has details for the Sheffield United away game on 27th September but nothing for the Forest away game on 16th September? I am hoping to go to Forest so have been checking the site on a daily basis and don’t understand what’s going on.
Bedders – just on the ticket site – no tickets currently available after Home Game with Bristol City – so not available for:
Forest
Bristol Rovers
Barnsley
Sheffield Utd
Burton
The site is not quite right mate. I mean they have listed a home game v Bristol City for Saturday 12th September at 1945 not Tuesday lol.
Just posted on Wolves Dave,
Ticket information for Wolves’ Sky Bet Championship game trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, 16th September will be released on Tuesday, 29th August.
Away season ticket holders will be able to buy tickets for the away fixtures against Sheffield United and Burton Albion from 9am on Saturday, 26th August and Saturday, 2nd September respectively.
Thanks Stu. Need to get in quickly. Wil check the site on Tuesday.
Oh my god !
No sting in the tail here ..
They re going to be so pissed when they see what we’re turning p with this season
Bettyfords 0
Portuhammpton 3
Brentford are a better side than their league position indicates. But they lost the plot a bit after sacking Mark Warburton. Up to that point they were pretty much just ahead of us after coming up from League One and making the championship playoffs. That said, the gap between us has widened in our favour this season. I can see a comfortable win and a clean sheet. 0-2.
Brentford 0
Wolves 7
Well, I aint in the Prediction league this season, so I thought I would be silly like Clive.
Same result as the reserves at Southampton 2-0 to the Wanderers.
Think the team Nino does pick will do the job without to much hassle
Nino – spell check
Nuno – got it right at last
Repeat after me…
Nino’s a NoNo.
It’s Nuno.
Back in 2012 I was in Sri Lanka watching England cricket team and I was in the stands (or grass bank) resplendent in shorts Barmy Army hat and Wolves shirt. Bloke standing next to me has a Brentford shirt on. Naturally, in the middle of Sri Lanka, in 42 degree heat the conversation turned to football and related matters. Anyway this bloke tells me of when he was touring South America a few years before on his motorbike. He is in deepest Chile and gone hundreds of miles without seeing anyone when he stumbles on a small village. A shop a few houses and a bar with a Guinness sign outside. So he goes in this bar in the middle of nowhere for refreshments. To be greeted by the bar man – who is wearing a Wolves shirt. Turns out he is originally from Wolvo. Went on holiday to South America and meets a local girl. Apparently Led Zeppelin and Slade are on the jukebox. So if anyone going tomorrow spots a bloke in Brentford top with a goaty beard and John Lennon glasses he may well tell you the tale. So 2-1 win WWFC.
Hope Im wrong here. Brentford are the bottom team at the moment, but what I have read, they have been unlucky with the results so far.
Hope we’re both wrong too, Berot.
Jota to score.
COMBs!
My thoughts on this game were a 3-1 win (off the top of my head) so I was very pleased to see that after a lot of scientific studies, Bedford came out with the same conclusion (and that also included Warnock’s status in our eyes).
Any combination of our squad will do but I agree that there should be minimal change to our perceived 1st 11. Rather surprised no one has suggested Danny to replace Miranda. What I am sure of is that we WILL be top of the league within 1 month.
Glad to be of service young man.
A possibility that Thelwell will be replaced soon – got to be happy with that. Just saying like.
Said earlier in the season the harder games would be against teams of thugs. Brentford are normally a decent football playing side and it helps not facing a scumbag manager. Was surprised by how many defensive errors by some of the players last week. I am putting it down mainly to the tone of the opposition but it does show we are definitely still looking and learning for that cohesive unit at the back. I feel it will come but maybe still a few weeks away, hence the 5 goal thriller that is on the way (along with Adobe’s return) great to be a Wolf this season when you feel we really do have a great chance in every game.
What news of the Adobe’s return – are you the font of all knowledge?
Adobe? I know he is a “smart player” (see what I did there), but his name is Afobe, and he aint coming back!!!!
Got to see the B team at Southampton on Wednesday night and was so impressed with Ronan when he came on , got to give him some more game time . Also, as Vicsmith above points out, Danny Batth could get a look in on the strength of Saints performance
COYW
Batth may have had a good game, but just because he scored does not mean we should include him as first choice. After all, his mistake nearly let Saints score early on. So …….. no, keep him on the bench imo.
Would stick with the same team that started at Cardiff and hope that this game suits our new style.
My Fulham mate has told me that Brentford at home is a difficult proposition – hope he is wrong.
On the edge of my seat waiting for the new striker announcement before the end of the transfer window.
I’m actually more positive about Wolves than I have been for at least a decade. Wednesday nights performance against Southampton, using 11 supposed squad players was a joy to watch. I would be happy to see 10 of them start against Brentford with the addition of Donovan Wilson as striker. Alternatively we could just role out the 1st team. Great time to be a Wolves fan.
P.S. If anyone can think of a time when we could have rolled out a 2nd 11 of that calibre please let me know.
Finally going to predict a wolves victory.
So tomorrow brings us up against a footballing team rather than cloggers.
However, will they change their tactics?
If we compare managers, teams and results this far, we should piss it!
Smith was the known as the ginger Mourinio at Wasall but he ain’t no Mourinio…
I reckon Brentford aren’t as bad as the table suggests!
A couple of changes I expect, Cav and Dicko (yes, I think he needs another chance! as he’s at least getting into positions, has his pace back, just needs one to go in off his arse and then it’ll click for him) but the rest of the team to be the same….
Another win this one for the mighty Wanderers, but a closer match I reckon….
We are looking good and Brentford should allow us to play – unlike Cardiff.
Easy win for me, Brentford play football but we do it better. Time to put points on the board against the “weaker” teams.
Brentford are a better team than the table suggests and they are due a result. History suggests that whenever a team is down the bottom and looking for a result then we duly help them out.
I love that expression, “they are not as bad as their table position”.
By that logic, does it mean we are not as good as our table position?
Brentford ARE currently the worst team in the second division, and their position reflects it.
So, they are going to get hammered by Hurricane Nuno.
Yes, you have a hurricane picking up momentum over there, just like I got Hurricane Harvey barreling down on Texas.
I will enjoy watching the demolition of Brentford from the luxury of my armchair, unless Harvey fucks up the power supply, in which case I will have to sit in the luxury of my truck, watching on my phone.
Either way it’s a foregone conclusion we are gonna win 5-1.
If we lose, it’s Stu’s fault for missing the game.
FOwb
Hey Clive,
That’s simple, the table can lie after just 4 games!
To your questions of “By that logic, does it mean we are not as good as our table position?” of course we shouldn’t be in that position!
I thought you’d watched all the games thus far?
If you had, you’d know we should be Top
It’s like that classic commentator line,
” What a shot! If it had gone in the net it would have been a goal!”
And no, I have only seen two full matches, Boro and carduff, and half of a half against Hull.
Derby I was at a funeral, and the others were not on Wolvestv.
So, hopeful tomorrow, coz I need me Wolves/Nuno fix!!
Hope you avoid Hurricane Harvey which is heading towards the Texas coast line (Corpus Christi in line) and dumping around 30″ of rain according to the BBC..
Houston is set for a mere drop in the ocean with 20/25″ forecast!!
Keep safe………..and dry.
BOG
Thank you kind sir.
I’ve just paid me fiver to watch the game via Wolves tv, so the friggin’ power better not go out tomorrow!
Got my generator up and running yesterday, just in cases!
Good thinkin’ – don’t want to miss the goal glut!
Oh, forgot, Bedders.
Faith and Charity?
Did them long time ago.
The only change I can see that might happen is Wilson on the bench instead of Dicko. Apart from that there is no need to change the side.
I can see a few goals coming in this game.
I’d be surprised if Brentford changed their style and tried to make it a rugby match. These are a decent footballing side and will pick up points sooner rather than later. However… If they try and play it around us on the floor and come at us I think we’ll win fairly comfortably. We really do look organised and I’m backing us to get all 3 points in west London tomorrow. Hopefully then we can have a breather before we go again after the international break
Teams always seem to end a bad run against us so I’m not in the most hopeful mood. Our back three need to prove themselves tomorrow. Let’s get a clean sheet again.
Former Celtic defender Daniel Majstorovic in line to be new sporting director at Wolves
He’s the Sporting Director of AEK Athens for the last two years and Mendes wants him at Wolves. No more Pound
And plodders then.
This is headlining on Wolves news now. It says he will replace Thelwell,
Fosun clearout complete…….
It could give us an advantage on the Greece player market.
Yes,
If we thought it’s been a whirlwind up to now this Transfer window, Thelwell, Edwards now going so hang on to your hats, anyone sitting still for more than 10 minutes may be sold off.
In my 56 years supporting the Old Gold and Black, never once have I felt so confident, that if one of our star players were to fall, the guys coming in to replace them would do an outstanding job.
Fosun, I want youwr Babbies
Pressure is now on usual starters after second string’s heroics at St Marys. Should focus minds. Going for a comfortable win.
lads are flying, real competition for places .. think we put on a show tomorrow
Just when I thought things couldn’t get very much better I have just read this on Sky Sports;
14:00
READING CLOSE IN ON EDWARDS
Reading are close to completing the £1m signing of David Edwards from Wolves, according to Sky sources
Edwards, 31, has spent nine years at Molineux, which included the club’s three-year spell in the Premier League.
The midfielder was part of Wales’ Euro 2016 squad and will sign a three-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.
Guaranteed to score against us though Bedders.
Edwards going to Reading for £1M?
one of the few teams in the lower half who try to play football. I expect a comfortable victory
Gotta be a wolves win
will be sorry to see the back of Dangerous Dave but wish him well as he’s a solid second division player and we moaned about him too much
meantime having a disastrous run in prediction league and have sneaky suspicion that the Bees will give us a hard game …but on the basis of ‘I’ll ask the audience’ there’s clearly widespread optimism here so I’ll take the answer of “comfortable win”
I’m sorry too Marin, but his style, such as it is, just doesn’t fit with the way we play nowadays. I’m surprised though, that a team like Reading have come in for him.
Marin,
Hear, hear totally agree on Edwards, I love the guy for his love of my team, his committment and desire to win and his all round 100% effort every game. He was always in my opinion a half a season guy. But, genuinely and with all my heartfelt gratitude I wish him well. I always envisaged him ending his days with Shrewsbury (he may well yet do that) but what a wonderful opportunity for him to go to Reading. I always liked their play, their drive and desire, he will do well there.
I don’t even care a Jota if he comes to Molineux and slides one in over us, cause now, I believe we could up a gear and score two.
Thank you Dangerous for your loyalty, a rare commodity Mr Neymar, Coutinio, Mbybbe (whatever).
Totally agree too, Daves a perfect gentleman, and all round good egg. Enjoy Fortuventura, I’ve heard its going to rain there, and be really hot and sunny in Brentford where Mrs Lowves and I will be, cheering on the mighty wolves, are you not jealous ??
Lowves.
You rotten devil, I planned it all wrong, I’m in the air during the match. I had planned to watch it on wolvestv, hopefully they put it out during the week to watch free, Scottish in me, lol.
Give em a shout for me and a big hug and kiss for the lovely Carmen, I am very jealous that you will be at the game without me, but needs must.
Holidaying, it’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it. It’s normally warmer here than in my Holiday destinations, but looking good so far.
COMBambinos
Spot on Stu.
Great loyal servant to the Wolves and deserves a lot more respect than some fans give him.
Good luck Dave, if you do go to Reading.
UTW!
I think confidence is high after the great win at Southampton in the week, and the lads will be chomping at the bit to get back to winning ways in the league. Brentford aren’t mugs by any stretch of the imagination. Yes they’ve have a bad start but they’ll improve and won’t be in the bottom 3 come may.
From what I’ve seen and know about their manager, they like to play expansive football built in a solid defence (although it’s obviously not quite clicking for them so far). In front of their home crowd they’ll be desparate to pick up their first points of the season and they’ll come out to play us, which in turn plays into our hands and I do think we’ll play them off the park. I think 1 goal a piece for Jota, Bonatini and Cav.
Come on Wolves!
Keep up the good start…COYW
We should win this at a canter, can’t see any reason to change the team despite the cup win.
Will echo Stu’s thoughts on Dangerous Dave, he has been a great club man and always given 100% thanks Dave and the best of luck if you are off to Reading
Confident we’ll be back to winning ways, whatever team put out.
We should be just too good for them – confident of an easy win.
Potential banana skin here, and their best player some Spanish winger – their top scorer last season is back from injury perhaps for tomorrows game.
However if, and we do, have serious ambitions for promotion this year, then we have to win this kind of game. Confidence must be very high in the camp, I don`t expect any changes from last weeks starting eleven for the 3pm kick off, and the `boss` knows a lot more about his reserve squad players now .
Must be a win, could be closer than we think but we should get the three points.
I think we are just too strong for them.
0-2 Wolves.
Brentford are not a bottom of the table team. From what I’ve seen they’ve been unfortunate in their games so far. We seem to play better away so let’s hope we can continue that way.
I have to say something about Dangerous Dave.
The best I can say of him is that if I had another son, I would be proud if it was him.
I love the bloke for his wholehearted commitment and all round decency.
He is a bit of a throwback to the days when players were loyal to a club and didn’t throw their toys out of their very posh and expensive prams every time things didn’t go 100% according to their – or their agent’s – plans.
And, he’s done a brilliant job over the years. Running his bits off and scoring important goals when no other bugger could.
I sincerely hope that, when he packs it in, Wolves will offer him a job in some ambassadorial capacity.
Good luck Dave.
I for one will miss you being around.
Reading plays a very continental style under Stam, and I’m sure there are other clubs which would have suited Edwards better. Good luck Dave.
But they also (last season) used a ‘high press’ which is one of the strengths of Edwards’ game.
Hopefully he gets the freedom to roam around and score some goals now and then.
I could not agree more.
He has been brilliant
Strong rumour that Jordan Graham is going out on loan to Fulham.
Hopefully not with an option to buy.
If he doesn’t fit in, he doesn’t fit in.
Convincing away win on the cards and a clean sheet.
I wouldn’t change the team who started against the sheep worriers.
The rumours are rife around the mol at the moment, watch this space.
As much as it pains me .. I think Brentford away will be tougher than a good many on this Blog believe. Whooping Holloway’s lot 4 v 1 couldn’t have been a fluke and whilst we are buzzing this year our previous visits to Griffin Park have been awful (although we nailed a victory in the last few mins last time around.)
Personally I’d prefer Bath to Miranda tomorrow…we’ll see…. but I’m still not sure that it will be the foregone conclusion everyone is predicting. …Just me and my pessimism….!!
Easy win I hope!
I fell Brentford could be a bit of a banana skin.. They have to win one eventually just hope its not this one..
Commonly held belief by Bees fans that, despite their early low league position, they play some of the best football in the league between the penalty areas( but not within both areas). They ARE a true footballing side without the tactics of last Saturday’s opposition….unless they have learned some very fast lessons! I believe our current sqad should be skillfully superior overall and that our midfield will be the stronger.
I cant see a single blogger predicting a loss tomorrow….AND NEITHER AM I. Back to winning ways in the league.
Someone is going to get a hiding from us.
Brentford are taking a while to settle so we should go for the throat..as wolves do.
Getting over the cheating bastards from Cardiff will have been sorted midweek such is our superb New coaching regime. No one will get away with that again.
This is now a very serious professional set up nothing escapes their attention and any new thing is examined and dealt with immediately .
We are going to take some stopping now.
Thank you wanknock for opening our eyes.
Watch out Brentford…. No mercy !
My dad liked Brentford because they originally nurtured a certain Peter Broadbent and then sold him to Wolves and the rest is history.
Peter was an absolute class act, maybe the classiest footballer ever to wear the famous old gold, and dad was a devotee. Up in the North Bank in the sky I bet he can still hear Stan – The Grand Master – Cullis yelling “Look at eeeemmm – Broadbent – look at EEEEMMMMM….
Broadbent could make an orange sit up and beg.
Still mustn’t keep looking back – tomorrow is what counts and its 4-0 to Wolves. No sweat.
BOG
After Wednesday’s success our unchanged squad should be well motivated to succeed.
I expect a victory, but superstitious at heart , will predict a draw.
The best thing Morgan and Moxey did for Wolves was to sell to Fosun.
So it appears today.
They say you shouldn’t change a winning team, but as we lost the last one (in the league), maybe a change or two is in the wind. After the superb performance at Southampton, few of our ‘first’ eleven can feel part of the first team furniture and in my view, Saiss and Miranda are the most at risk. Batth/Bennett and Price/Ronan are all able replacements, though I doubt if they’ll be called upon just yet.
I’m hoping the week off will have given the team new impetus and, despite Brentford’s ‘false’ position in the league, we’ll be much too strong for them and come out on top. Hopefully, NES has spent a few sessions covering set piece defending. This is our major weak link currently but I don’t think NES and the coaches will allow the situation to continue.
COYW
Oh, batten down the hatches Clive. I understand Harvey is gonna be a proper Wallbanger.
Away from home again, still can’t see us losing.
What will be interesting is how long it will take Nuno to ‘integrate’ the lads who put up such a solid show against Southampton, if the ‘first team begin to struggle.
Hopefully that won’t happen. Good win on the cards, I reckon.
UTW
Just read that Danny Wellbeck’s father was a World War 2 hero, highly decorated for his work in Bomb Disposal.
Brilliant man.
Stan Wellbeck.
Went in to Mark Jarvis today to collect my winnings from the Southampton game and was very surprised to see that they had got Brentford down as 11/8 favourites to win. So, just like Wednesday I will go against what they say and put a tenner on our boys.
For the life of me I cant comprehend Jordan Graham going to Fulham he’s a great player
ffs and speaks English too..
Are we in danger of being over influenced?
If it’s a case of ‘so be it’ ,then If we don’t buy a (prolific) striker Mendes is a Wanker..
This match.. is a stone wall, cast iron banker….. if we are PL serious then we simply must win and by more than one goal too..say, 3-1…
Dicko should be on his bike.. I’m getting used to seeing him either fall over or miss completely as I said in the last blog enough is enough…bye bye…
I think we’ll out-football Brentford and keep the pressure on at the top, eh mon Wanderers!!
What’s a bee sting compared to a wolf bite?
over confident?? Don’t care !!!
Still no sign of the “Striker” so cant see us getting big scores yet. We bounced back well on Wednesday with the other half of the Squad so hopefully that will encourage everyone and keep them on their toes. Keep reminding myself that there ain’t no easy games in this league.
@TimSpiers
1755 today
My understanding is that Wolves hope to sign 3 players in the next week – a striker, a central midfielder + maybe an experienced left back.
We’re maybe starting two teams.
Watched the Cardiff game again today and we actually didn’t play that bad but it was nice to bounce back with an unexpected victory against Southampton. Onto Brentford a team that likes to get the ball down so it should suit us and I was also pleased they got a win in midweek as we have a knack of ending clubs poor runs, but that was old Wolves, this is a new Wolves, Nunos Wolves. I expect goals a plenty in this one with us coming out on top of a 5 goal thriller.
Back to winning ways I think. We won’t win them all, and Cardiff was just one of those. But make no mistake, Wolves will be the ones going places come end of year, not Cardiff.
Go Wolves!
Got to fancy us to bounce back after Cardiff.
Strong rumours abound. Dicko and Graham to go – possibly on loan. Incoming are two strikers, a central midfielder to partner Neves and, bizarrely I feel, a left back.
Wolves win end of !!!
Expecting us to get back on track, especially if we are to get promoted this season. Will be tough, but a solid win.
Tougher game than some think , il happily take four points from the next two games to keep us nicely in top three for when costa returns along with a new goal machine, then the only way is up ,
Don’t we usually have a few beez on the blog prior to playing them !
Utw
I’m thinking team that play to stop us will gain rewards; but Brentford will play football… letting us play a bit too.. a draw
Didn’t Dean Smith have a niggle about us last season?
Never mind, 3 points I reckon
A win but not that easy at Brentford. I echo StuW and Doog re Dave Edwards. He was always 100}% Wolf and scored many important goals – good luck to him.
Hoping for more than a point, but that wouldn’t be a disaster
Continuing from the Southampton game – I hope and trust!
Exciting end to end stuff with a late winner. Would take a draw. Brentford are due a result .
I’ll be sad to see Dangerous Dave move on, I love his loyalty to the club, very much like a true believer. But it’s a fickle business and I wish him the best at Reading (if indeed that is where he ends up).
As for this one, I don’t think we’re the finished article and I can see it being a struggle. A banana skin incident in the making.
Tough match I expect but we should do it.
COYW
I’m not a believer in dropping a player just because he’s had one bad game (Miranda, Saiss). Nonetheless its time to look at ways to alleviate fatigue, which means slowly making changes and looking at our options. For today I’d put Jota and Douglas on the bench and play Vinagre and Cav. as they developed a threatening partnership in midweek. Sad to see Edwards go but, as so many have noted, his attributes don’t fit into the new system.
cant see this as anything other than a comfortable victory. their style of play will suit us
Brentford are a dangerous beast, A little wounded after no wins in their opening 4 games they’ll be up for this no doubt. We had a great result in midweek at Southampton a game many including myself thought we’d lose.
But I do fancy us for this one, I think it’ll be tight throughout a goal in the last 10 minutes should seal a 0-2 Wolves win.
After Darth Warnock has shown Nuno the power of the dark side hopefully the force will return at Brentford
So long Dave…and thanks for all the fish!
Cardiff are the latest Leeds Utd (like Wimbledon, et. al.) Destined to be nearly/also rans/the thorn on the rose. The shit you have to wade thru to get to nice part.
A win for the good guys today.
I’m a bit concerned.
Stearman gone…
Edwards going….
Who’s going to be the new scapegoat if everything goes tits up in future?
Doherty, of course.
In fact, he already is and it ain’t gone tits up yet.
Batth is still here.i
Harvey is doing a number on Texas right now, so as we wont be able to blame Trump, lets blame Harvey.
Unless you are putting yourself up for the job, Doogle old pal??
Hope you’re all coping over there with wet lashings of wind and water ….
One Hurricane Harvey …there’s only one Hurricane Harvey…..
Thanks for the card mate ….
You are not allowed to open it until tomorrow.
By the way, fellow bloggers, tomorrow is Twixfixmas.
He just entered his eighth decade!!!
Bring your own teabags next time mate (not) …..
First off, hats off to Dave Edwards in the event that his move to Reading takes place. A true role model for Wolves and I, for one, would be happy to have him back at Molineux in an ambassadorial capacity once his playing days are over.
I have a sneaking fondness for Brentford in that they seem to want to play football. We haven’t always done so well there but I’m hoping that we’ll win this relatively comfortably. Our own Diogo José Teixeira da Silva – Jota to you and me – to get one over his namesake.
Sorry Deano another hard luck story for your boys.
Think Brentford will shut up shop today I’m going for a draw
Lost money on sir Billy Wright yesterday put a score on him
Up the wolves
Think we can pile on the pain here. We’re due a big result and Brentford’s confidence is still on a knife edge despite the cup result.
We need a response after the defeat at Cardiff. A big win would stop those jitters.
A quick one before going to piss myself at a local rugger game. Wolves to win 3-1, glad to see beating saints after the disapointing loss to the sheepshagers last week.
UTW
If they do try and play football, we’ll beat them – we’ve got too much class. That’s why we’ve done so well against Middlesbrough, Hull and Derby. The issue is can we do it when we’re getting kicked up in the air like last week against Cardiff. At one point three of our players were simultaneously on the floor because of off the ball incidents. Gotta say I was impressed by how much our continental players were up for it against Warnock’s tactics and I’m hopeful we’ll be able to more than hold our own against the ‘physical’ teams in this league. We’ll We’ll have win this one. I’m going for 2-1. Come on me babbies!
Make up for last game.
I’ve been a bit distracted this week with the school holidays and trying to keep a 9 year old entertained, no easy task.
The Southampton result was a shock but not a surprise if that makes sense it shows that the fringe players have brought into Nuno and what he’s trying to achieve. That result would not have happened last of season.
To Brenford cannot forget the 3.1 result when we were both in League One and Wolves ended there run and that move for Henerys goal was pure class.
Although there bottom they won’t be a push over and it’s good to hear Ninos not complacent as he has warned against in his press conference.
I think it will be close but I’m going for 2.1 to Wolves……….fingers crossed..!
Vinagre in for Douglas, who isn’t even on the bench. Must be injured I would imagine.
Should win but expect to draw as Brentford will be fighting for points as they’ve had such a bad start.
Also our past history at Griffen park is not great – I’m hoping Wolves prove me wrong.
COYW
Just watched Cheatmouth lose to Man City …. city scoring in the 11 minute of stoppage time even though the board originally put up 5 mins ( mainly due to Cheaters time wasting etc)
Whoopee..
I think this will be a football game and as such expect us to come out winners comfortably
Big thanks to Dangerous Dave who altho he divided fans I don’t think anyone can knock his commitment to the club. Anyone who gives 100% is to be applauded in my book.
Supreme irony. Bodvarrson and Mason both scored.
Only could happen to Wolves….not a bad point but we need to sort a striker ASP..!
How many goals would we have had with a better striker?
I think NES must now know with certainty what is needed for us to move forward. I must say I am happy with a point away from home, but prefer 3, especially if it is there for the taking. Enough said….. Milwall next!!!
Take a point clean sheet move on 10 points 5 games going to plan get a couple of forwards in a cm we will be up
Thank you dave Edwards for your effort goals and memories goals in prem division 1 winning goal v Leeds at home
Good luck for career
Did any of you travelling fans get to have a pint with Jeff and Laurie?
Can you imagine the previous regime doing anything like that?
Good on you Wolves!
As we all know we need a proven goalscorer.
Has anyone else noticed that Troy Denny is out of favour at Watford. Worth a shot surely?
I think the passing by Wolves wasn’t very good. Looks like they overshot their targets time and time again.
Possession was given away time after time.
I also thought the ref was abysmal the last 5 minutes. Shoving from behind more than once.
10 points from 5 games. Would have took that given the fixtures. Key is to maintain the points ratio. Two home games up next. A 4 point return would be acceptable (6 points brilliant). Need to score and create more at Molineux. A poor home record did us no favours last year. Need to sort it out.
I said in my Prediction This was a possible Banana Skin.. Happy to take a point.. Our game isn’t suited to these really small tight little grounds with smaller pitches we will struggle away at places like this unless we find a solution.
I predicted a draw as well because Brentford are a decent side. But you might be surprised to know they have a bigger pitch than us. In fact everybody does as we have the smallest pitch in the Championship.
Ha Ha Ha Shows what I know…
Yes we did, this year we have installed an expensive new pitch which has been made Slighty bigger to suit the style of play Nuno wants..
But What I meant was the close nature of these smaller grounds where the fans are right by the pitch all the way round with no run off areas. The passing range didn’t seem quite right today.. Still Happy with 10 points from 5 games if that continues we will be in the mix…
Brentford were the better side today . Wolves were poor, slow out of the blocks first half
Better second but still were more likely to lose than win
Am I the only one who’s annoyed about the treatment of Dave Edwards ?
He’s been a good loyal hard working pro for wolves, not everyone’s favorite I admit, but unceremoniously dumped after what ? 9 years good service and 8 different managers
I would have liked to know he was going and seen him off with a good found of applause while he was in a wolves shirt … even as a sub in the Cardiff game .
I like the players we’ve signed but I’m not liking the treatment of players that have genuinely cared for our club !!
Nice one today Bedders .. nice drinking with you mate !
– Dave Edwards hasn’t been treated unfairly. He’s better off playing at a club which suits him. In Nuno’s system there was always players better suited.
– Too bad we didn’t exploit the counterattacks better than we did today. The truth is that Bonatini slowed us down. Bonatini (a fox in the box?) plays one or two touch football and does seldom run behind defences. Matches away from home were we not dominates in possession are better suited fast players like Dicko.
I thought we were going to stat top two this season if we can’t beat bottom of the league clubs then it’s the play offs which is not good enough imo..
I see the top two clubs loosing no more than 2-3 games and beating a lot of teams away from home..
Invincible we could of been and we are not..we could of even lost this one…
I think this could be one of the tightest, most even Championships ever and no team is gonna run away with it. Depth of squad could be vital and this is where we may have an advantage over many.
The table is pretty different from what everybody believed before the season. The big teams have all got an average start on the new season (average: 7pts out of 15 possible – not many points differs though) – except Wolves which where regarded as one of the favorites. Monk struggles at Middlesbrough and could face the axe by Christmas if he don’t manages to turn it around – for the fans there are really disappointed and have huge expectations and they could lag behind even further. It would also surprise me if Ipswich, Nottingham and Shef utd are up there when may next year approaches.
Steve, Brentford are a good side as are Milwall. Both of them started bottom and 2nd from bottom but imo they will be nowhere near the bottom end of season. I am happy to take a point in any away game.
Just think what we can do when we get a goalscorer in.
Still a lot of work to be done i’m afraid. For some reason we seemed to lack energy as a team. Build-up was too slow and was in contrast to the urgency that Brentford displayed.
Some below par performances – Doherty was not there today and offered hardly any cover for Miranda nor attacking threat. He looked disienterested – maybe because of his pal Edwards leaving. Sais mis-laid a lot of passes. Neves was tidy without taking control of the midfield. Miranda was ok but does seem to back off his man too often – maybe he’s afraid to get beat and a lack of pace will allow his adversary to get clear of him. Boly tried hard but also made too many mistakes. Bonatini doesnt look to be able to boss the final third – lack of speed is the problem – good link up play though. Bright got kicked early on and that was the end of him. Coady, Jota, Vinaigre and Cav were the only bright sparks.
I hope Nuno gets the play up to speed of the championship or else we will get pushed of the ball too easily time and time again and not given the time to build up our play. Tempo is real problem for us against typical Championship teams like Brentford and Cardiff. A fast big striker is desparately needed – not only to score but to bully the opposing defenders a little bit and to open the play up. And after this performance today, someone to replace or challenge Doherty. He was real weak link today.
– Away games where we aren’t dominating and controlling games are better suited Dicko and Cav. We had many good counterattack possibilities. Some where finished – others squandered. I’m at last pretty sure Dicko and Cav would have produced one against one situations against the keeper, clear cut chances. Sometimes Bonatini avoided to run behind the defence, as he’s conscious of his limitation – pace wise. And that’s ok, every player should play on his strengths. If it benefited the team is another question.
Me and you saw excactlly the same game .. although I thought Doherty put a shift in , but missed a sitter ( I gave him the benefit of the doubt ) I thought Brentford were good but man of the match was Boly
I thought that there might be a new blog up by now, and if one appears before the day ends I will repeat this.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TWIXFIX!!!!!
Hope you had a great one mate and enjoyed your lunch out.
See you and Lilian soon I hope.
Lotsa love from Mark & Sue xxxx
That’s so kind of you mate ….. at least you didn’t give my 60th birthday age away.. thanks for that ..
I did leave a message today and I will ring you Monday to personally thank you both.
Hope to see you both soon ..Mike
I wasn’t there so I can’t comment on our style of play or commitment, but (didn’t ya just know that was coming…) if we can’t beat the bottom team, who are obviously struggling, then we have to address the problem I’ve been boring everyone to tears with lately.
WE NEED A PROVEN STRIKER….okay! I’ve said it! AGAIN!
I’m starting to think my missus is the true power running the Wolves, cos she don’t bloody listen either.
Get us a striker in Jeff, ffs. It’s getting tedious now.
UTW
Anyone notice the old boys on the score sheet yesterday. Bod, Mason, Saville, Wallace all got goals for Reading Burton and Millwall.
Yes…see above. we, on the other hand are getting shot of ours.
We’re turning into a bastardisation of the 1966 England ‘wing-less wonders’ football team, except we’re the striker-less wonderers. Wondering if we’re ever going to start scoring the goals our domination deserves.
I will save my real post for the next article reporting on the game.
However just wanted to say;
1. I had a brilliant day out
2. Matt (London Wolves Loyal) is a top, top bloke and great company.
3. Happy birthday Twixfix – eighty what!?!?!
4. I really can’t believe the negativity from so many bloggers – what the heck do you want? One defeat in 7 games, 5 clean sheets, 3rd in the table, a cup win away to a Premier League side, averaging 2 points a game which gets you automation promotion by my reckoning, playing great football, the long overdue clear out of the average and inferior is almost complete, we are signing quality players beyond our wildest dreams, we are being talked about everywhere, opposing managers are saying we are the best team they’ve played, we’ve gone from 17-1 to 3-1 favourites to win the league and our best player hasn’t even played yet!
OODCL
We’re 4th in the table.
Cheers Bedders ….
Happy birthday Twixfix. Have a great day mate.
Cheers Brompton…see you soon mate..x
Happy birthday for yesterday Mike. Hope to see you soon.
Thanks Dougie and Barbara …catch up time soon hopefully ..x
Sorry Tim – I stand corrected. Obviously that changes everything. I mean to say…..4th! Flipping heck, mid table beckons then – or even relegation? Lol
Clive, saw Houston on the news tonight, your taking a bashing for the next few days. Hope you and yours are all OK. Fuck off Harvey and W B !!!
Like Witley have just seen Houston on Sky news just hope Clive is safe and OK.
Let us know asap Big Man
I didn’t realise that wanting to see Wolves scoring goals was negative…
Just had a word from my mate at Wolves.
We’re hearing that a bid from Wolves has been accepted for Tiquinho Soares from Porto.
Also Wolves are looking at Joao Palhinho a defensive midfielder, from Sporting Clube Portugal.
If these are true, Soares is a great steal from Porto.
4 days left in the transfer window, let’s see how this one pans out.
Stu wolf,I hope your snout is right because if we get those two signings mentioned it would be great.
Apparently they are top players and would suit the way NES wants to play .
So I really hope your right.
Hull are back in for Dicko, so we can expect a striker in very soon for sure, come on me Babbies.
One of the reasons we found ourselves staring down the barrel of a 12 bore last year is facing his own medicine.
In the know folk are posting “Kevin Thelwell will be gone this week”
Me,
Thank Feck for Fosun, did’nt take long to see tnrough that muppet.
If a £8mil bit has been rejected for Hughill, what’s Dicko worth? Even if we are signing a top striker I would keep Dicko rather than sell him cheaply unless we can get a bidding war going.
With the window closing this week, it’s the last chance saloon for some desperate clubs. Expect stupid money for average players. Good time to sell?
I think we Wolves fans all realise, Fosun have been chasing individuals for a while, so we’ve not rushed into things like last year.
Soares would have been here sooner, but he took a knock, so they’ve had a good look at him and looks as if he’s ok, I heard about Soares weeks ago, he is a good investment for sure. I only heard about Palhinho last night, but if what I’m reading about him is only half true, then we have got another Neves. Which may well push Siasse to the bench as back up.
Vinagre (I like him) did well on Saturday according to all reports, so I think we may well see him integrated in somehow and Doherty on to the bench also. So with Costa to return and all this going on, things are looking betterer and gooder all the time.
Good time to be a Wolves fan, unless your name is Clive that is.
Good news indeed! Soares is just the kind of striker we need, and Jota really begins to feel home in the Wolves shirt. He was the main force behind almost everything up front saturday, and in some occasions combined well with Bonatini. Man of the match if he only could have scored on the beautiful through ball from Bonatini. Nice to know we’ll come back even stronger after the break. Up the Wolves
How many defensive mid-fielders do you play at the same time? BTW, are you referring to João Palhinha, a defensive midfielder?
Not trying to be pedantic but if people want to research him, we have to give them the proper spelling.
We need several good alternatives. From what I’ve seen on youtube he’s another type of defensive midfielder than the ones we’ve already have. While Neves and Saiss both are deep positioned playmakers, Paulhinha is a defensive midfielder which reminds me a lot of Paul Ince: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmn8BYu_AW8
– With him in the team Neves could perhaps get the freedom to develop his play further up the pitch.
Tim, yes I am referring to him, I don’t want anybody to research anything mate, just a typo, Nuno plays the defenders midfielders whatever not me.
Johnok.
I’m in Fuerteventura and he’s just sent me another to tell me both players are at Compton today for a medical.
If anyone in the area has friends in the know, get them up to the Mount hotel Tettenhall because that’s where they all stay, or send them down to Compton to see if they are spotted.
The good news is, another guy has posted both players on Wolves rumours saying the same.
The beauty of it is, with there only being 4 days left, we won’t have long to wait one way or another.
Fingers crossed, they’re correct.
Clive – just had a message from Clive. They have had to evacuate their home and been moved 30 miles north to a pet friendly hotel because of their dogs. It has been raining heavily for two days solid and another 20 inches are forecast yet. His house is now flooded and they face months of clearing up once they are allowed back. They are safe though which is the main thing. I will keep you posted if I hear anything else.
Thanks Bedford, was getting a bit concerned about the old fart.
Send our best wishes when you speak to him.
That’s awful. Sorry to hear this. Keep safe Clive
I only said to SWMBO last night I wonder if Clive and Co are OK. Obviously not. Stay safe old pal and chin up, we have no idea what iot must be like in reality.
Forgot to say Clive says to thank all the Wolves bloggers for their concern and kind thoughts and he will post something when he can.
Phew. Thankfully they are ok. Guess we need to look at holding the bloggers ballbash over there, so we can help sort out his house.
Thanks for the info Bedders. Also seen the photo passed on by DOOGooder. Positive thoughts to Clive.
STUPID stewards at brentford wouldn’t let my mates in because he said they had been drinking.
For gods sake 4 blokes in their 30″s and 40″s of course they have had a drink .
I know these lads and they are not rowdy gobshites .
Apparently a few in front were singing so this jobsworth decided to not let anyone in so they went back to pub.
Long way to go for a pint .
Happened to London Loyal at QPR last season, he was drinking with us, decided to stop and finish his pint, so was only a couple of minutes after us, but they turned him away.
Bloody cockaknees !!!!! no sense of humour
Keeping up with the drinking theme, albeit slightly off topic: went to see a rugby tournament on Saturday, as planned. Got myself quite tipsy, as planned. Not planned at all: told the city major when she was walking out to present the cup to the winners that I didn’t vote her and her party ain’t good. Result.
Just got this pic from the man from Houston.
Apparently it’s his house.
Poor bugger!!
Floody hell,
He needs to get that sprinkler looked at.
Grief that pic does not look good! Glad Clive & family all ok (including pups). Hope things improve for them.
Dicko off to Hull then.
I feel another one coming back to bite us in the bum.
I would have kept him, he will come good.
I agree. Physically he’s now on par to before he was injured. Lately his technical ability has been less rusty, like the old Dicko’s. Big mistake! And the worst part – we sold him to Hull, one of the strongest promotion rivals. Bodvarsson was a good deal – we got more money for him than he’s actually worth. Dicko is probably worth at least 6 millions (if Afobe was worth 10mill). I won’t mourn this loss – as I’m sure replacements of even higher quality are lined up.
Nuno’s answer to the Cardiff game is to bring in a big 6’2″, hard tackling mid-fielder.
Good thing we played Cardiff before the window closed so Nuno could see what he needs to play against these bullying type teams.
Don’t think dicko would be happy as a fringe player that’s why he is going.
Nuno is building a premier league squad, that is becoming very clear and as much as dicko has done in the past he definately is not a premier league striker.
The players mentioned by Stu are just what we need .
For once I feel we have a truly proffessional no nonsence set up and I for one have never been this excited about the future of our football club..
Keep your feet dry Clive all the best.
Fowb
A good point! It’s a good move for him if the priority is first team football. Even bigger signings awaits next season when Wolves are promoted.
And we beat theshite U23’s 2-0 at The Golden Palace tonight, Gongslves and Seedorf.
Got a picture of Clive’s new “Big Red Truck”
FOwb & Harvey
Under 23’s beat the boggies tonight at the mol 2.0 a screamer from Pedro who was my man of the match. Was looking at Big Dave (Darren Moore) on their bench, and couldn’t help but reflecting on how the game has changed since his day, you could get our back line in his shirt and still have room for the ref.
Palhina listed as 6ft 2 1/2″ and hopefully to replace Saiss and allow Neves freedom, Soares at 6 feet 2″ 12 goals in 15 appearances for Porto but reported 40 million euro release clause.
Hope you are correct Stu these are both exciting additions.
Best wishes to Clive and the family, can only imagine what you are going through.
