Might as well talk about the penalties.
Neither of Bournemouth’s should have been given and both would have been routinely overturned by a video replay.

Moutinho clearly pulls his leg away for the first with King making a conscious decision to throw himself to the ground. Dwight Gayle was given a two-game ban for similar a few weeks ago and the same punishment should be applicable on review.
The second was a foul – the trademark lazy leg from Cav – but simply wasn’t inside the 18 yard box. Justice served in that instance at least.
Call me biased but Wolves were correctly awarded the penalty that was given and incorrectly denied another.
As Eddie Howe said afterwards, you don’t often see them given when a player gets his shot away and is then cleared out by a defender in the follow through. I agree, but it’s a foul all the same on Doherty.
The first half handball is more contentious as nobody seems to know what does and doesn’t constitute an offence. The FA literature is as stated:
Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm.
The following must be considered:
the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an offence
Chris Mepham made such a dog’s dinner of his attempted headed clearance, it’s hard to know what was and wasn’t deliberate in the movement.
But considering he was under no pressure and practically punched the ball out of play, I would say that has to constitute a spot-kick, even by the muddled criteria listed above.
If it makes the home fans feel any better I wouldn’t have sent off Lerma for his elbow on Moutinho. He seemed to keep his eyes on the ball and make an honest challenge, albeit clumsy. On the ‘
This catalogue of contentious moments framed the entire game, but based on what we saw in-between, I’d say a point is about fair enough.
They certainly posed the more direct threat, particularly in a second half in which they poured forward at will, forced countless blocks and rattled the bar.
Wolves could easily have won it too though and having bossed possession for long periods – and suffered the rough decisions – can rightly feel a share of the spoils was the least they deserved.
There’s needle in this fixture though – so more fun and games to be had next season.

I seem to remember when this shower got promoted they got given a penalty every game ..
As for the stupid comments their supporters ( all 3 of em ) made about Wolves being one of the worst teams they be played all season when we beat them ! is up there with the retararded Newcastle players who keep saying ‘ how come Wolves are seventh ? When we took 4 points off them and they took 1 from us
Same with cheatmouth
Absolute mongs the lot of em !
The season they got promoted we unjustly had two players sent off after being 1.0 up, has a result we lost 2.1, then at their conference league ground we lost 2.1 with their goal coming again from a contentious penalty.
I also remember seeing Howe in that match were we had 2sent off jesturing to his player to stay down resulting in our player recieving a red card, once given the player in question got up and was running around like a hot backsides rabbit.
Howe is a cheat.
Howe is a cheat. How did he learn though? Well. He was in the Portsmouth squad that cheated their way to promotion in 2003. Although I’m not sure it was Howe personally, someone in that team took out George Ndah. Bastards.
Went on their ‘fans forum’ (all three of them) earlier and to say they are deluded is an understatement. They don’t realise who they are playing. Wolverhampton Wanderers that’s who. Don’t give it large from your pathetic little tin pot non league outfit. You are nothing. Never won nothing. Even your ground struggles to keep up with the fucking Bescot. Now just fuck off and doe bother us again . Like Wigan. You will fade and die. Unlike your cheating manager our leader Nuno continues to be a class bloke. Refusing to say the ref was shit. He knows he was. Wolves ay we.
Yes comrade !!!
Revolutionary Trotskyist by any chance? Millions of them in the Black Country. Well. Probably about 3. Even my MP (Dudley North) has quit the Labour party. He usually gets elected by about 25 votes after about six recounts. Think he is a gonner now. Dudley North is strictly down the line Tory/Labour. Sorry to bore Evey body to death about politics.Wolves ay we.
Yes indeed.
More tea vicar?
Bizarre game culminating in the sprinklers coming on .Comparable to the black cat at Everton .These day’s attending these fixtures you always sense there is a way back in to the game and so it proved .Great day out .Roll on Huddersfield
Another well earned point following an excellent all round performance.
What is so impressive about our team is that we have become a really solid unit. We have quality throughout, combining great levels of skill going forward, with a tenacious ability to defend when required. There are no weak links.
Best of all, we consistently display a fantastic team spirit, which has emanated from a small squad in which every player has a huge confidence in the abilities of all colleagues . There is this sense that our guys play as if losing is not an option, even when atrocious refereeing decisions go against us
We have developed into a real team, capable of beating anyone, and afraid of no one. And the best is yet to come. Thank you Nuno.
Feel we dropped two rather than won one, but I will take that from those diving, whinging, crap cherries, almost lost it on the way back to the hotel, some plonker gets out of his car and says to us, ” you were lucky today” bloody numpty, obviouslt don’t watch a lot of football. They had 12 men, ref bought his retirement home in Bornemouth on the back of that display. Cheating prat. 25 bookings, 3 penalties, missed ia hand ball, missed Jota’s shirt being pulled off his back on the way to goal and disallowed a good goal.
But our lads seemed off it today, they interviewed Saiss the other day and he could hardly speak with a throat infection, if I were a betting man I would put money on a nasty virus running through the team. They just seemed jaded.
But hey ho, a point away from home against a team that haven’t lost at home since December. Not bad all things considering.
On to Huddersfield on Tuesday, then Colins mob on Saturday.
Well Roger East was so rightly castigated by the 1100 or so fans watching this match.
What started as a cynical foul on Doherty after just 49 secs the idiot in black then points to the spot later on for the most dubious penalty of the decade.
He then decides against giving us for a clear handball, then latterly gives Cheatmouth yet another penalty for an infringement outside the box.
I’m afraid Mr East that you are nomined as the most shambling excuse for a PL official.
And as for the leading elbow on Moutinho was so obvious … as we all bellowed ….if that was us you’d send him off.
Always funny when Howe seems to suffer blurred vision at some of the key moments.
A point thoroughly deserved ….. but my I my …. We Do get SHIT refs…..
Amongst all the contentious refereeing decisions rightly noted already, the fact that Matt Smith was on a caution already when he clattered Doc seems to have gone unnoticed. Easily a credible second caution for a reckless foul. Bournemouth undoubtedly got the rub of the green with decisions today but not worth getting too wound up about, we had a bit of fortune with Boly’s elbow at Newcastle and I’m sure we’ll get some deserved luck again before the season’s through. Not a bad point in the end and yet more evidence of this side’s character, ability and desire. Big fan of Nuno’s post-match class too. UTW.
Don’t agree that Cav’s challenge was a foul as Fraser was clearly dangling his leg.Justice was done. Equally, the handball wasn’t a penalty as it was no way deliberate – their defender is just a clumsy nervous plonker who was making his first start of the season . Moutinho was a bit naive with his challenge. That’s enough about penalties! Let’s make sure those Tesco carrier bag imitators don’t do the double!!
100% agree. The Bournemouth player kicked Cav and threw himself over, cheating prat!
100% agree with CliveW as well as Sea Pigeon …. Cavaleiro had both feet grounded when the cheating, diving, simulating and conning scum bag Fraser dinked his leg into Cavs leg and not only went down BUT screamed holy shit at the ref to give a penalty……
THIS CHEATING IS THE WORST KIND AND I HOPE THE FA BAN THE GIT FOR THREE GAMES …..
Fraser was the third Bournemouth diver to go over in(to) the box claiming a penalty within 30 seconds in that scramble after we scored. Like the others it was clearly simulated and deserves punishment. They clearly recognised that East was easily swayed and put everything into getting another dodgy penalty.
Gosling was infuriating throughout the game whinging and haranguing East after any incident.
Unbeaten in 8.
Feeling like last year a bit…is this the new normal ?
Hopefully!!
Another away point and the 40 points are already in the bag before the end of February
I imagine if this years aim was to stay up then next years is probably to win the mid table league, so far this season
Bournemouth-4points
Leicester-4 points
Everton -4 points
West ham -6 points
Not bad with a quarter of the season left
Watford will be the biggest threat to us for the 7th spot though ( and possibly the fa cup) so our game against them is looking like a 6 pointer already
Loving this season
Utw
Thomas’s summary was pretty much a summary of my thoughts and Sea Pigeon saw the Cav penalty incident with my eyes too. Gotta be happy with a point there when you think how the once mighty Chelski got on there last time out. But for sure the ref’s dodgy decisions had a huge bearing on the game and above all, that’s the real pity. I know VAR can be a bit of a distraction, even a nuisance, at times but it’s better than having to endure these miscarriages week after week, and would, I hope, help to deter these cheating diving turds from ruining our beautiful game.
I doubt if Roger East will have many worse days at the office than that. Almost every major decision he made was simply wrong. And some of the minor ones too – at one point in the 1st half he gave a corner to the cheats when the ball clearly came off King.
Those of us who were hoping that the step up to the Prem would also mean a step up in refereeing standards are finding out just how wrong we were.
To come away with a point from that catastrophe was a major achievement and the players are to be applauded for sticking to their task.
Peno’s for me none should have been given included ours.
The hand ball was dubious & even VAR wouldn’t answer as its still 50:50 after reviewing umpteen times.
Fraser should retrospectively be banned for the same as Dwight Gayle – a disgrace & embarrassment
For me if Eddie “the slimeball” Who becomes the next England manager then we should change the name of the National team to Columbia – no one will convince me that he isn’t coaching “cheat at all times” football.
Smith booked on 50 secs – yellow card – then if he gives the foul for the pen surely should have been a second yellow?
Gosling – a disgrace remonstrating every decision against them & for his challenge on Neves
& the elbow from a player with 26 yellow cards over three years.
FFS
The game however ended as a bit of a non event mainly due to the ref who should be forced to go on loan to The Darts
Looking forward to the next two & then onto our priority for this season now with Manure in the golden palace.
FWAW
I agree the end of the game was a bit of a damp squib.
To misquote the great poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning :-
“HOWE do I hate thee, let me count the ways”.
I always thought he was a decent coach, doing a decent job at a decent club and an honest sort of chap.
But his post match interview beggars belief!
He didn’t think that it was a penalty when their lad tried to kick Doherty over the stand in their penalty area, although it would have been a foul anywhere else on the pitch. What part of the FA Rule book does that come from?
He wasn’t sure if it was hand ball when their defender, when under no pressure from any Wolves player, virtually picked the ball up and threw it over the touch line.
And he had no problems with his players doing their Tom Daley impressions. I expect he’s got them practicing off the end of Bournemouth pier.
Let’s just all hope they don’t try it when the tides out!
But I expect they’ll make sure the sprinklers are on first.
I now dislike Howe almost as much as I do Colin at Cardiff.
Warnock always tries to come over in interviews as your favourite old granny, gurning and smarming and talking about the opposition’s ‘lack of class’.
Talk about pots and bloody kettles!
Howe tries the angelic little choirboy approach.
Butter wouldn’t melt in his perfect little mouth and his team are brave souls who would never even consider throwing themselves over in the penalty area to try and cheat their way to getting a penalty kick.
And the referee (that’s a misnomer if ever there was one), should be exiled to sandwell, or some other penitentiary, to serve out the rest of his days reading up about what constitutes hand ball and writing several million times “For a penalty kick to be awarded, there first has to be a foul and it has to occur inside the penalty area. The clue’s in the name you doughnut!!!!”.
The one contentious decision of his I did agree with was that the guy who nearly spread Moutinho’s teeth all over the grass only deserved a yellow card.
Willy Boly has been involved in a couple of those incidents and, as long as your eyes are on the ball and there’s no deliberate intent, I think that a yellow suffices.
On another note, it’s good to see that Big Willy has been firing on all cylinders, as his partner has just given birth.
Congratulations to them both!
I am just about calming down after watching the antics of Roger East and his mates from the South Coast and, when all is said and done, I reckon that a draw was a fair result.
Bournemouth are a good side.
But like a cheap tart, they go down much to easily.
Surely it was 9 months ago when big Wily was firing on all cylinders?
Well I had good news and bad news on Saturday morning.
All week long I had been checking the tv programming for the footie, and it was up there in big bold letters
Wolverhampton Wanderers at Bournmouth
Sat down five mins before kick off in my brand new away shirt, with me coffee and donuts, turned on tv, big letters still there, Wolverhampton Wanderers v Bournmouth.
Big grin, eagerly anticipating some entertainment from the South of England, only for the bitch of an announcer to say “We now take you to the North of England for Newcastle v Huddersfield”
What??
Fuckers!!
I had to sit thru 90 minutes of the most boring match ever, while listening to Mikey Burrows and Thommo commentating from our game.
That was the bad news.
The good news is Huddersfield are shit.
Dire, bereft of ideas, skill and fitness.
Eleven donkeys and their captain got red carded so will miss Tuesday’s game.
They are really bad, even Bath City would beat them ( Mrs Doogooder!)
Hopefully we have seen the worst of the cheating teams this year, but useless refs?
We’ll get them every week.
Bring back Clattenburg!!
Onwards and upwards, unbeaten in 8, and sandwell lost at home!
FOwb
Get a firestick and download LiveOnsat.com for a list of all the channels Wolves are on.
I can’t afford an away season ticket so can’t go, but I have a home season ticket.
It was on NBC Sports Gold Clive!!!
$50 for the season, you cheapskate…! 😉
Sorry to read about Clive’s football watching woes. I watched the game on the internet, via http://www.hesgoal.com. As it turned out the link was for NBC Sports in California. The only hassle was that the feed was about a minute behind Sky Sports News and , more importantly, a minute ahead of the Wolves commentary from Mike Burroughs and Thommo. I ended up giving the latter a miss and just listening to the NBC commentary, which wasn’t so bad (the hesgoal link can sometimes be for a Czech or Slovenian, or similar, channel).
I won’t go over the game, as it has already been covered above. My only concern is how our recent games all seem to have been good first half, but backs to the wall stuff in the second. Not so good for the old ticker.
Has anybody just watched the Man City Chelsea Final?
The most extraordinary piece of Player power I’ve ever seen.
What a bunch of over paid, spoiled tosspots!!!
It was much more a case of a simple misunderstanding in fact. Kepa was being asked to come off because the manager was under the impression that he was injured when, in fact, he wasn’t, that’s all.
I don’t think so.
It was going to be a tactical switch because Caballero is a penalty specialist.
He was warming up for a good ten minutes before Kepa got his touch of cramp.
Sarri was absolutely livid and looked like he was going to walk out of Wembley, but has backtracked for whatever reason. Probably because he knows he is a dead man walking.
If he was a man of principle he would walk out. But if he walks out, he gets nothing. If he’s sacked he gets a huge pay off.
In future, will every player who is substituted refuse to leave the pitch because he’s not injured? Or maybe he feels he’s playing well enough and doesn’t deserve to come off.
If so, God help managers and God help football!
Just about to comment. What is that all about. Clearly shows the players have no respect for Sarri. Felt a bit sorry for him but he should not have let the player win. If it had been me I would have gone on the pitch and dragged the twat off . Think it is the end for him now. Shame as Chelsea played well.
Never feel sorry for Chelski cheesy ! They deserve everything that’s happening to them . It’s the changing of the guard ! Mark my words we will make the top six and hopefully win the FA cup
Stroll on Tuesday and then Colin next Saturday! Can’t wait
COYW
You are right Dogster. They have had it large for 25 years. Bollocks to them. Brilliant at work this week as I mocked the Villa fans. They have accepted they are shit. Going no where. I almost felt sorry for them as well. But soon realised all they have in their life is 1982. Haircut 100.Orange Juice and a shit football team. And Jack Grealish who is a twat.
Better still the Sandwell mob lost at home and they face Leeds away next ! My heart bleeds .what comes around goes around except this time round is going to be a whole lot sweeter ! I’m in my fifties now and this has been a long time coming. Hold on boys and girls this ride is about to take off BIG TIME !
Sarri should make the goaltender practice penalty shots for the next couple of weeks – away from the rest of the squad.
Will be interesting to see who’s side the fans, and owner, take.
Goalkeeper, you plick!!!
Sorry about that, Chief. I forgot that some of you get confused easily.
Top write-up mate, a lot more diplomatic than I’d have managed after a day getting merry (and occasionally irate) in the sunshine!
I thought we were good value for a point, as were Bournemouth. For all their play-acting, they’re a good side and have an excellent home record. We certainly shouldn’t be disappointed with the result.
A great opportunity for six points this week, albeit against opposition that are fighting for survival. Would expect to see some rotation on Tuesday considering Huddersfield’s position is the more perilous of the two.
If that’s the case, I hope Adama gets a well-earned start. He’s improved massively in recent weeks and was a real threat when he was introduced on Saturday. I staunchly believe he’s going to be a top player for us given time.
UTW x
I’m with you there Ben.
I haven’t been the biggest Traore fan (by a long way) but he is definitely showing signs of improvement and has delivered a couple of telling crosses in the last few games he’s been involved in.
But until he learns how to take the ball running at speed, rather than always trying to beat a defender from a standing start, I think Nuno has to play him wide, not as a central striker.
Benik Afobe was expert at standing on the shoulder of the last man and running on to a through ball. Adama is a Bugatti Veyron on legs.
Put the two together and you’ve got a pretty impressive striker.
As long as he ain’t the Lego Version of the Bugatti!!
What’s to say? I managed to watch in the interweb and the feed was excellent. We started off really well then B’mouth were given a pen and managed to get a foothold in the game . We had chances, they had a few, then the two pens at the end. We scored, they didn’t. End of game.
Roger East was awful.
A point was probably fair in the end.
Maybe next time you can help Clive.
Gary poundland “s assessment of the referee on face book is hilarious.
And that just about sums it up for me
Interesting that Sarri said it was all a misunderstanding at Wembley. Certainly was. He mistakenly though he was in charge.
I’ll be at Stamford Bridge on Sunday week for the visit of mighty Wolves. I’m looking forward to Kepa mistakenly thinking he’s a good keeper.
I think after Saturday you could quite reasonably morph Eddie Howe and Roger East in to a hideous creature. It will be called Roger Howe. Which is probably what happened in Eddie’s office after the match.
I just doe understand Eddie Howe’s logic.
“A foul in the penalty area, if the player has got his shot away, isn’t a penalty”!!
WTF is it then?
“If it’s outside the penalty area it’s a foul but not in the area”.
And you’re nearly as bad Thomas!
So a player who ain’t got the ball gets no protection, he can be fouled and have the shit kicked of him, if he got his shot away.
Eddie Howe’s rules book: Rules doe apply to me. If it’s possible to cheat and get away with it, then cheat, It’s OK.
Is he really being touted as a future England manager or a future international joke?
