Well, all I can say is ESPN must be kicking themselves for selecting such a turgid, horrible game of football as their third round showpiece.
They might have been expecting a fast-paced, blood and thunder derby, but what they were served instead was a low-key scrapfest on a bobbling pitch inside a half empty stadium.
Behold the magic of the FA Cup.
I blame the managers personally.

Hughton packed the Blues midfield and selected former Stoke clogger Adam Rooney as the lone forward.
Perhaps unsurprisingly then, they offered very little as an attacking threat, aside from livewire winger Nathan Redmond, who does look a real prospect.
So the emphasis was very much on Wolves, as the Premier League side, to take the game by the scruff of the neck and make our mark.
Sadly, Mick had other ideas.
For starters, the midfield duo of Henry and Jonnson must be the least creative pairing in the history of the FA Cup.
The latter looked OK on his debut, but nothing more. He was happy to sit, tackle and make simple passes but certainly didn’t appear intent on exiting his own half.
That’s fine of course, but if Jonnson is a holding midfielder and nothing more, why not give Edwards or even Guedioura a game alongside him? Show some intent to go out and enforce ourselves on a midtable Championship side.
Or even play Frimpong so we can see more of what this guy is about.
What was there to be gained by playing Henry? I’m lost on that one.
Hunt was appalling. As purely an attacking outlet he offered absolutely nothing to the game. Hammill, a winger who actually attacks wasn’t even on the bench.
Mick claimed in his post-match interview that he set his team up to win because he played two forwards and two wingers. I’d personally argue he played 7 defensive players (8 if you include the keeper) and relied on the other 3 to feed off scraps.
On his return, that’s exactly what Michael Kightly got too – scraps. But if there was one shining beacon of light on an otherwise dull afternoon of football, it was his return to the fold.
He looked interested, incisive and generally half a yard quicker than he has done for a very long time indeed. He also produced one of the only two moments of quality all game when he picked out SEB with an inch-perfect cross, only to see the striker blaze over the only decent chance either side created.
It’s still early days, but I certainly took encouragement from his performance.
Sadly it was another game Kevin Doyle will probably want to forget. He flitted round and tried to get involved with the play, but never looked much of a threat. I don’t know whether it’s confidence, tiredness or an injury he’s perhaps carrying, but he’s a shadow of his former self right now. It’s painful to see.
The back four can at least feel satisfied for keeping a cleansheet.
It must be said that after Roger Johnson limped off midway through the first half, we did actually improve, which I don’t see as a slight on the defender.
I think we looked better because Stearman was thankfully moved inside, where he should be playing and Foley was restored to full-back, giving us proper shape.
Stearman is not a right-back. I’m sorry to break that to anyone who thinks otherwise. His distribution is abysmal at times and it nullifies any chance we might have of getting forward down the right.
If this match showed us anything, it’s the reliance we have on Jarvis and Fletcher. Both only had a short run out but came closer than anyone to scoring.
Lovely to see Jarvis actually cut inside and leather one for a change. So often he drags those wide, but he forced a fine save from their keeper and then Fletch was unlucky with his follow up header.
If Mick had truly wanted to get the job done today he would have played one, if not both of them from the start. Given the fact they were both inexplicably rested against Chelsea last weekend, they should have been fresh as a daisy.
I shall stop now because this report is beginning to resemble the very match it describes.
Long, negative and ultimately very depressing.
Anyone fancy the replay?
It’s only 15 quid.

The noose is tightening and MM’s doing it all on his own. Clueless if he thinks we want this dross.
Board-is there anybody out there???????
FROMM
It was pitiful to see us playing like an average Championship team today. Anyone who thinks Mick can take us forward is, quite frankly, deluded. If you need proof of how a good manager can take a team of players and reinvigorate them into an incisive, threatening side then look no further than Sunderland.
Mick out!
I watched on stream.
It was dreadful.
Two wingers and two defensive midfielders ?
Two forwards, Doyle and SEB, in the shop window?
Trappatoni said Doyle ‘played in a desert at Wolves’.
Now he is a shadow of his former self, thanks Mick and Mr Connor.
S.E.B. was woeful and selfish.
I lost count of the number of times Kightly made good runs but SEB ignored him.
The only slight ray of ‘hope’ was Kightly who seemed refreshed, faster and confident.
Jonnson also seemed neat and tidy, but how long before they get infected with the obvious malaise there is in the management structure at the club?
Absolutely spot on Thomas,
How often do we have to see these negative tactics and team selections that defy belief! If Jarvis or Fletch had rescued a win in the dying moments, no doubt MM would be claiming his tactical genius by bringing them on with no mention of him getting it so wrong from the start!!! Brum were always going to make things compact and difficult in the middle of the park because they know we struggle to break down teams but we should’ve combatted that by having at least one creative midfielder in the middle.
At best, 2 positives from the game.
Clean sheet and Kights!
another turgid display; against a very less-than-average Championship side.
and another baffling team selection.
this was a wonderful opportunity to give players like Frimpong and Hammill the chance to gain experience and to improve their confidence. yet all we saw was the confirmation that we are a side of predominantly ordinary and unimaginative players.
and how many times do we have to have it confirmed that SEB is not Premiership material?
but good to see Foley back and in his natural position.
Hell, that wasn’t even a Premiership game, was it? I’d say that we need another new striker, definitely!
How about a new manager, what a load of crap Hamlet ,new manager ASAP.
Couldn’t agree more. My report on our blog pretty much echoes what you’ve said above. See http://www.joysandsorrows.co.uk/2012/01/view-from-the-south-birmingham-city-vs-wolverhampton-wanderers/? Just to put the record straight about the implication of Blues being an ‘average Championship side’ the line up named today was the weakest I have seen fielded because frankly whilst he won’t say it, Chris Hughton probably views the FA Cup as something we can do without, especially as we now have to replay and we have a more important game on Tuesday against Ipswich. Blues have played 33 competitive games this season so far and with a thin squad we have to field weakened teams whether we like it or not. I suggest that Wolves weren’t the only ones missing the inspiration of their better players. I expected to lose this match today and the fact that apart from Matt Jarvis’ excellent strike we never looked like losing would be of concern to me if I were a supporter of the old gold and black. I wish you well for survival in the Premier League but there are features about Wolves this season that remind me of recent Blues teams that should have stayed up and didn’t. Your team is clearly better than what was on show today but with respect so are we and the personnel fielded go a long way to explaining why this game was so dire.
I don’t disagree Bazza and I know Blues rested quite a few.
I called Blues a mid table team based on the fact you’re 14th, not what I saw on the pitch.
Our problem is we don’t have any better players, what you saw today is what we have to put up with every week!
FOMM
If you lose the midfield battle or dont actually have any controlled possesion of the ball however many forwards you field they are going to have to ‘feed on scraps’.
I know that both teams are much better than that game, but it doesn’t really excuse the excuse for a game, does it?
I suppose I’d feel more depressed if;
a) I’d actually seen this game
b) If it had been a Premier League fixture.
What matters most is getting points in the Premier League right now – and we won’t be getting that with displays like this!
I’ve got to disagree with the ‘me too’ analysis that is going on here. Namely:
1. Today’s game; MM fielded a strong side; Birmingham packed the midfield and the pitch did the rest.
2. Kightly wasn’t great; fitter yes; Premier League quality never. I expect to see Hammill and Jarvis on the wings next weekend.
3. Doyle hasn’t been ‘ruined by Mick’; what an illogical thing to say. Doyle isn’t enjoying his best form, agreed – why this I don’t know; has he really been the same Doyle since his injury?
4. League position, poor. We need to improve. Two useful signings and other players looking much improved (Jarvis, Berra, Ward). This is the Premier League and it is tough. Period.
So let’s stop the criticism for the sake of it and bring some useful debate.
what do you want to debate if we as fans can not give a critique of the teams performance and what we feel needs to change?
This Kightly stuff is going way over the top, he pulled the ball back for ebanks blake but apart from that can you really say he showed much quality?? I really liked him 3 years ago but I think people are going over the top. Going forward we were dire but as soon as we saw that midfield no fan could have expected otherwise.
We are grasping at straws when we said Kightly did ok! – I certainly am…..
By debate, do you mean things you agree with’ ?
“The pitch did the rest” ? These supposed ‘premier league quality’ players should be able to control the football rgardless of the state of the pitch. This, along with MM’s beloved ‘putting a shift in’ are the bare minimum I expect from these players
Cup ties quite often get the lower division sides playing above themselves, and getting “up’ to the standard of the loftier opposition.
Sadly today, poor Birmingham were dragged down to our level.
I wrote last week that the first half of the Bolton match was the worst I’d seen, but today had that beat hands down.
This is a foretaste of what will be served up next season, as we play all the other championship sides after we get relegated.
I said in a recent blog that I would hate to see Berra, Ward, Henry in the team today, but lo and behold, there they were and all three were on the pitch for the full 90 plus minutes.
Knowing that Blues had played a lot of games and were more than likely going to field a weaker team, what did our idiot do? Played his “first” team.
Brilliant, fuckin’ brilliant!!!
Where were the academy boys, the fringe players and Frimpong, who is only here for a short spell, let’s see what he’s made of!!!
No, after Johnson went off, we had our champonship back four on the pitch.
A wondeful tribute to the hard work and the progress we’ve made in 5 1/2 years of this brainless dickhead.
Fatty Blake is a has been, never will be Prem quality.
Doyle looks totally disinterested, at least if he’s looking for a move he should be showcasing himself.
Hunt like a scurrying rat, and a complete waste of space.
Henry gave the ball away so many times I lost count
Ward his usual one paced out of position self.
Johnson too busy listening to the boo boys to concentrate.
And if any one thinks Kightly is the answer, then I’m sorry but he needs to go back to Watford, tomorrow.
Totally out of sorts, one decent pass all match….which fatty B totally fucked up!!
Once again, an absolute shambles of a football team, with no cohesion, tactics or clue how to break down a dour, resolute defence.
And my TV feed showed the kid with the yo-yo, which was the best action of the match, and we also heard the expletive ridden tirades from our foul mouthed leader, no wonder no one wants to play for him.
FOMM
Pretty much agree with the entire blog, Thomas. Except that I thought that Kightly was a headless chicken throughout and that his excellent-looking cutback to SEB was actually a mis-hit scuff. Ward was my MOM for us, although that is not saying much.
And I think the replay wil be the first game I’ll not bother to watch this season.
I actually think resting Jarvis and fletcher was a good move. We can’t afford to risk injuring either of them in a competition we’re highly unlikely to win.
That said, I was surprised to see frimpong and Hammil excluded. Hunt contributes so little going forward it’s like he’s just there for his defensive workrate.
Not watched it, no intention of watching it even though I have it recorded. We are a very poor team and the person who is accountable for this team needs to tell us how or what he is going to do to improve it. I’m embarrassed.
Right positives first. De Vries came in and looked a decent back up. Berra is starting to look a really reliable stopper and dealt well with a very physical approach from Rooney . Jonnson looked ok in his first outing and could be a useful addition. Kightly looked lighter and fitter and he certainly adds some much needed pace. And i thought Henry played well and was neat and tidy in possession.
Right the negatives. Our ability to control the ball, get it down at our feet and actually PASS it to someone not wearing the opposition colurs is virtually NON-EXISTENT. in fact they don’t even try to control it half the time. Unchallenged, they will head or kick it aimlessly forwarded for it to be immediately regained by the opposition. These are full time professionals with full time coaches and i’ve seen better football on park pitches.
I don’t think any player can be totally exempt from criticism but top of the pile were Hunt and Stearman. Hunt really did look like he couldn’t trap a bag of cement. He looked like he was trying to control a hopping frog or something. And Stearman looked like he was under orders to kick it as far and as aimlessly as possible as fast as he could.
This was a championship side with 8 changes and yet again we were unable to create hardly any chances and on the odd occasion we did our shooting was pathetic. ESPN showed a statistic of accuracy of attempts on goal, Brum 80% Wolves16%. Do they actually practice shooting in training? Because they get worse and worse imo. And as for poor Kevin Doyle. Great bloke and i’m sure one day somewhere we’ll see him back at his best, but for now his potency as a striker is gone completely. The only question when he pulls his feeble shots wide now is will they actually reach the goal line.
Overall it was a shocking performance, an embarrasment for Wolves fans and an awful indictment of the manager and coaching staff. More to come next week no doubt.
An interesting analysis i actually think MM this season has used many of the tactics that are advocated by his critics( particularly those who get bored with passing football) but it hasnt given the goal return required and he is now sitting on the cusp of failure.
Just on another note, did anyone notice the shot of Hugh Laurie, ‘House’, draped in Wolves scarf at the Chelsea match?
I wonder if he’ll find a miraculous last-gasp cure for our chronic terminal decline.
Hugh Laurie for Wolves manager?
We need a ‘House’ not a McCarthy!
Very hard game coming up at Spurs. Milijas now available, OHara hopefully back as well. Frimpong looking to start. Does this mean MM will drop Karl Henry after yesterday’s disgraceful performance ? Probably not.
Ahh yes if only he would drop Karl Henry………..better still why have any midfield at all ?
Ha ha, like that!
Maybe we should change the formation to 5 – 0 – 5
Whoever came up with the phrase “the beautiful game” had not come across the McCarthy/Henry axis.
That’s Karl, not Thierry. Obviously
Is there a Mick / Thierry axis then?
Yeah, they’re close mates. They both share a love of fine wines, 18th century French poetry and short passing, sexy football
Hahaha that made me chuckle!
Over reaction.
3rd round of the cup away at Blues; poor pitch; players rested; early kick-off.
Context please!
Over reaction ? Please tell me a team that we have looked comfortable against this season since Fulham
Don’t you reckon the last three of those four context-setting factors applied to Blouse as well, then?
Er…yes. Isn’t that obvious?
Of course it is. I just wondered whether it was to you. So then, what kind of excuses are you trying to convey? Does a Premier League player have a clause in his contract to the effect that if it’s a noon kick-off, he can play as craply as a mid-table Championship player? Does not the fact that we rested 5 players but they rested 7 mean that with 5 PL reserves against 7 championship reserves, we should have won easily? Yes, a bobbly pitch can be a leveller of class, but that pitch was not atrociously bad – I’ve seen much, much worse.
It you’re happy with the way Wolves are playing and progressing, then that’s up to you of course (I’m not, BTW). But I’d have thought that a call to consider “context please!” might have conferred a duty on the caller to have considered the context himself in the first place.
I agree with you that MM fielded an unbalanced team. The thought behind playing Henry and Jonnson was to match Birmingham in the centre defensively with only two central midfielders. It worked ok defensively, not in attack. I think Ebanks did ok, and could have scored. We lacked creativity. An extra game will give some of our youngsters the opportunity to get some experience. Birmingham have done well in europe and is difficult team to beat away. When that is said, Wolves played as it was a workout. Hammill did well in the last game, Hunt didn’t perform in this game, ergo Hammill or Kightly will start in the next match.
I think most fans are losing patience because we lack creativity in most matches and not just against teams like Birmingham that look to stifle play. Yesterday’s game was just the latest in a succession of matches where we’ve struggled to pass the ball or retain possession and failed to create anything of note for most of the game. It was an embarrassing display from an average Championship side.
Maybe I’ll be proven horribly wrong given that Stearman is capable of bad mistakes and Johnson has had a decent couple of games, but I just wonder if Roger’s injury might be one of those pieces of bad luck that works out ok for Mick – a bit like Doyle’s that let in Fletch last season.
Kevin Foley at right-back is streets ahead of Stearman. He gets us playing and plays progressive balls into the strikers feet rather than ‘hitting the holes’ oe dumping it back to Hennessey. And yet, even in a cup game and with Foley needing game time, he stuck with Stears.
For ages now, virtually our only way of creating an attack has been the Ward-Jarvis combination on the left. It would be nice to think Foley could link up with Kightly or Hammill down the right to make something happen on that flank too.
My further hopes are that Hunt’s performance sees him out the side (possibly for good) and that we consider the 451 again in light of Doyle and SEB’s less than impressive form.
Agreed. Which makes this talk of buying a striker even more ridiculous. Where will he play?
He’ll sit on the bench. I think GK is probably the only position i’d be less likely to invest in than a striker.
I`m not sure who got the worse deal, my Sky upgrade to include ESPN so I could watch the match live, or the remarkable number of Wolves fans who bothered to go to the game. The fans don`t deserve the absolute garbage the manager seems happy with. If thats the best he can motivate his players to perform after 5 years with them then heaven help us.
I see Moxey on the Wolves website is bragging about getting 2 players in already, while MM is saying transfer fees go silly this time of year, thats means all our business has been done then. Unless some lunatic comes in for Big George, Keogh etc. Heaven help our championship defence at Spurs next week.
Are you sure? Apparently we’re still trying for Onouha! And is this the same ‘Championship defence’ that held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw?
To be fair, the defence was never really tested in the B’ham game but as for our attack…
No Mark, three players! Eggert, Frimpong and Kightly, the latter being as good as a new signing and further credence to the ‘young and hungry’ mantra, where long term contracts yield eventual dividends, as Kightly’s return will prove.
Keogh coming back will be a 4th new signing too, so lets not forget that. His phenomenal two goal haul in 15 – 20 games for Leeds, coupled with his sharp form in pre season, means he will add firepower and another option. Also, Kightly has a telepathic relationship with him, as we all know.
Meanwhile Carl Ikeme might be back before the window closes, making it 5 new signings. Ikeme is, as we all know, the next Matt Murray and with back-up like this, Hennessey will be pressured into more heroics to keep his place, thus more clean sheets.
Come on folks, cheers up and lay off Moxey.
And while I’m at it, there is no excuse for not paying £15 for the replay, as this paltry sum is half the cost of a league game and against a team that has been Premier League established for 5 years or more (previous to this season.)
It represents fantastic value, particularly as we had FOUR shots on goal yesterday compared to just one at Goodison a month ago, meaning we are four times more attack minded.
If anyone wishes to doubt this, refer to the quite compelling argument made by Arsene Wenger, who confirms what the Molineux corridors of power already know. ‘Newsflash: We DO play attractive football.’
If all this wasn’t enough to attract you to Molineux, remember this: The redevelopment will not take place if you stay away.
WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE!!
I know you’re more joking than anything else, but like I’ve said there’s plenty of time left in the transfer window for more signings to be made…
Better to laugh than cry…
Bullshite baffles brains, something this club has in abundance.PREMIER LEAGUE I wish we acted
like one.FOMM.FOJM.
Just seen Warnock news. Only a few days ago he was fighting our corner with the FA.
Hope McCarthy is looking over his shoulder.
Just watched the Man City v Man Utd cup match, made me realise just how far behind Wolves are in class, skill, and just about everything else after watching the debacle of B’ham v Wolves.
Umm… They’re the two best clubs in England – what do you expect?
Ok fair comment, so I’ll choose Swansea or Norwich who’s style of football is more pleasing to the eye to watch than our own, and they aint the two biggest teams in the Prem are they?
Sorry but if your happy with the way MM has us playing football then your easily pleased.
We are without doubt going down this season, MM OUT.
First point, I might take with a pinch of salt… but I bet that when we lost to Bolton 3-0 last season, people were saying that we were ‘without a doubt’ going down as well!
We are not definitely going to be relegated. It’s a fair possibility right now, and it shouldn’t be a fair possibility but to say that we can survive this season isn’t being deluded!
We could stay up yes but even if we finish 17th do you not think that it may need a fresh pair of eyes on that squad of players?
Perhaps – no one is happy with being relegation strugglers! Let’s say we do survive in that way – and if we find ourselves in the exact same position in our fourth season then it’ll be clear even to ‘happy clappers’ like me that Mick can’t take us further – but I just can’t see Moxey or Jez sacking Mick, even though it’d be understandable!
We survived the second season despite spending most of our time in the relegation zone, and though we’re still around that area we haven’t dropped into it yet! I think Mick can keep us up – after Tottenham, there are three winnable games and how would it be looking if we won all three? Or even seven points?
Of course, we could cock up those games like we did with Stoke and Norwich but that remains to be seen!
E&S-Anyone know what style Frimpong was attracted to? Thought MM makes it up as he goes along and Clipboard just says yes.
It’s that progressive, goal laden style we feast our eyes over every week Alf. Do you not go to the games?
You know, the one where possesion is treated so preciously that Mick screams if a ball is passed back to Henessey from kick-off and is wooffed downfield to a 5ft 10in striker who loses out to a defender.
You must surely associate with it? It’s a style in which we always have more possession than the opposition and force more shots and corners.
Some fans think this is a fallacy, but let me assure you it happens. Just ask Jez, who in turn will quote Arsene Wenger – the purist of all purists.
Your eyes deceive you if you think otherwise. Numpties = thickos, Arsene = Truth.
Forget the fact we are usually 2 down at half time and have only won 4 games all season, we are always superior in all areas of the pitch, bar their penalty area and our own.
So good are we, that we can smash Millwall 5-0 and shun the players who masterminded the win. Couple this with last season’s 5-0 demolition of Doncaster and you have a side that would win the CCC with a Reading-surpassing triumph of 100+ points and 100+ goals. Who else can boast 5-nillers against those two?
Fans will see what they want to see, but Jez knows the truth, as does Mick.
Young. And. Hungry.
Nice one Ben, your new role as spin doctor for Moxey and the club could be a good career move. I shall have to have a strong word with your dad though.
Morgan and Moxey should also, have a good look at film of the match on saturday, not for the highlights as there weren`t any, but take a good look at the massed ranks of Wolves supporters who frankly deserve better than the garbage cuurently being provided. If they want to keep the fans with them surely something has to change.
An impartial observer wouldn`t have known who was supposedly the premiership side, or who was the midtable championship side who had sold their best (and highest paid) players in the summer. New manager please. FOMM.
I try to take an objective view of how we are doing and listen to what other have to say and think that this blog is first class. However, I’m struggling with the continued abuse by some of our club’s ownership and management.
I ask you, aren’t we where we want to be (in the Premier League)?
We want to be further up the table but do you think that the perennial struggle against relegation is any different for 8 to 10 of the sides in this division? What are you expecting – we aren’t Man City!
Don’t you think that Mick and Jez are trying to bring in more quality, as they have been doing for the past 5 years? They’ve signed some great players who’ve kept us in this division.
Guess what – the glass is half full and it’s about time we realised it.
UTW! Super Mick McCarthy!
What annoys me with the pro mccarthy camp is that it is basically we are in the prem so don’t you dare question it. It is frustrating that we have to get relegated before you consider things may need improving. Whether wolves finish 19th or survive in 17th my opinion will not change. The team is looking tired, void of ideas and the manager does not know what his best team yet will continue to pick formations and players that leave us with 2 wins in 18 games. You compare us to the rest of the prem but we have invested in players, more than most while how many other clubs in the prem have taken the decision to expand their stadium when they could not fill it anyway and attendances are falling across the league. Do we have to get relegated before we can question anything? I think not.
All valid points Wanderer. Personally, I just want to see some signs of progression, that we are at least showing signs of moving in the right direction.
I want less illogic decisions too, such as (in last two weeks alone):
1. Purchase of Eggert Johnnson from the same league where our own David Davis is (according to reports) performing better, yet ignored.
2. Young Forde blooded against Chelsea, against arguably the best left back in the world (not my view BTW) and subbed, never seen since, yet not immersed into the first team against in a far less daunting task at St Andrew’s. Talk about easing him in!
3. Guedioura and Hammill not getting the same chances as other players such as Edwards and Hunt, and since being roundly written off as either ‘untrustworthy’ or ‘crap’ by many fans.
4. Malone sacked off for 150k to AFC Bournemouth, despite performing brilliantly for them, when Elokobi has ben proven, beyond reasonable doubt, to be inadequate (and arriving from that very league in the first place, if memory serves).
5. And the most pertinent one…A style of play that I simply cannot relate to or fathom out. It is verging on a dour anti-football which contains few, if any, of the characteristics of any teams around us. I HATE WATCHING IT!!
These are just in recent weeks Wanderer. I remember the bad old days of underachievement like yesterday. In fact, they have comprised the basis of my perennial half-empty glass, due to every formative memory being a sad one. (McGinlay punch, Bully red at Oldham, etc etc)
Your first point is the very reason so many fans still find can’t utter the words ‘Mick Out,’ including me.
He has consigned every miserable stigma that clung round our necks to the dustbin. Get this, I even thought our kit was cursed once, having exhausted every other logical reason for unmitigated failure. Seriously!!!
But my hunch is that he is simply not getting the best out of this squad. Results would prove this to be the case, with a handful of points out of 40odd available.
Good managers solve problems, they evolve teams and they progress.
Irrespective of league, I can barely remember so many problems that need addressing in one Wolves side (no pace, movement, fluidity, devilment, even height!) and so few signs that anything positive is about to happen.
It is for those very painful, fomative, wilderness year memories that make me so frantically worried about our future right now.
Moxey is only in it for one thing………………Moxey.
McCarthorse is there coz he aint got a clue how to get out.
Morgan, well he’s only there for the real estate value.
None of them are Wolves fans, only money fans.
I would agree that we have signed some quality players over the last 3 years, but that quality has been stifled by the useless training methods and fear tactics employed by our brain dead management.
Don’t know what glass you have which is half full, but I bet it’s a bloody big one, and you’ve drunk more than your share!
Take off the roses and smell the reality of the forest, coz like Hansel and Greta Garbo, we are well and truly lost in the fuckin’ woods, and no, Red Riding Hood, we aint the big bad Wolves anymore!!!!
FOMM
So when QPR and Sunderland finish comfortably mid table, courtesy of excellent sacking and appointment of two proven PL managers, while Wolves either go down or scrape survival in the last few games. You will then be happy to admit that those calling for Micks head were correct? As per Tony Fernandes statement yesterday, he felt he had to make a decision and he has, lack of action could cost Wolves long term
I share some of the frustration, believe me but there is no ‘excellence’ in sacking someone – trust me. Neither is it the answer. What we need to do is hold our nerve. don’t panic and know that the results will come. Mick is adding further quality in midfield and possibly other areas.
As for QPR finishing mid-table, I don’t see it – they aren’t Sunderland with a proven Premier League pedigree and the same quality of player. Their problems run much deeper and they’ll do well to avoid relegation.
Keep the faith guys.
I watched the Manchester game there was quite a lot of sideways passing not something that goes down well at the Molineux – early front runner for the QPR job Mark Hughes damn.
Ben, your reply to the ‘Wanderer’ sums it up for me.
“There is something rotten in the state of Wolverhampton Wanderers” to paraphrase, Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
From the way we play to the idiotic piece in the E&S at Frimpong being our saviour and Wenger likes our style.
What a piece of sleaze Jez Moxey is.
There is no defence for the lack of ‘respect’ shown to the club by the ‘owners/management’.
We as fans deserve better.
I know that the last 4 games have NOT been pretty, and have not even yielded the points or results that we wanted, but if you ran a prediction league on the set of 4 matches:
Bolton AWAY
Arsenal AWAY
Chelsea HOME
Binmingham AWAY
I doubt even optimistic supporters would predict a goal difference of -1 and only 1 loss (and suffering the worst of the refereeing red card decisions).
Desperately looking for a silver lining.
I see QPR have pulled the trigger on Warnock. Everyone will say it is a mistake/harsh but they’ll no doubt appoint Mark Hughes (left Blackburn 7th, City 6th, Fulham 8th) and be the next team to pull away from us.
Not everybody likes Hughes but that record suggests he knows how to manage a top ten side. He knows what such a team looks like.
People scoff at the likes of Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis. They say ‘how can people watch that every week’. Well it may not be a great plan but at least it is a plan.
Please tell me what it is about Mick McCarthy’s football management that leads people to believe he has any vision for Wolverhampton Wanderers beyond a relegation dogfight?
Maybe people will say it shows what a good job he’s done that I think a Premier League relegation battle isn’t good enough. Well they’re right. But does that mean he’s ‘earned the right to take us down’? Sorry, that’s not how I want this football club to be run. UP the wolves.
I’m jealous of QPR for getting Hughes. Not because I think he’d come to Wolves (he wouldn’t), but because they’ve done what I wish we would, acted quickly and decisively to make changes BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.
Now to why Hughes has gone there. You can bet your bottom dollar it’s because he’s been offered a large salary, but also a large amount of money to spend on the squad. I await surprising business from them in this window and the inevitable climb up the table a la Sunderland.
When is the next Board Meeting-would dearly love to know what the plan is-Hello is there anybody there.
Ditch cheapo Mick and get someone who can MANAGE at this level. Pathetic.
I read City are to challenge the red card from yesterdays game. Have they got a case? If it is rescinded can’t imagine what the press and us wolves fans will be posting after Milijas and the Lampard incidents! The only supporters of the red card appear to be Man U themselves……..Ferguson, Rooney, Ferdinand etc………..strange that!! I will be chuffin livid if it is rescinded!
I imagine it won’t be recinded and they will point to it being the referees decision of what is deemed to be dangerous. Fa backing the refs and all that. Nice to be in more illustrious company than qpr though. I’m pretty sure refereeing has got worse rather than better since we’ve been in the top flight.
Also with regard to the technology debate, I can’t have been the only one curious to hear what Wayne Rooney said during his personal conversation with the ref before he made his decision? The sooner they stop players buying a red card for the opposition the better. Comes to something when the usual dive like I’ve been shot Nani didn’t react until after the whistle had been blown.
Citeh were cheated out of that game. That said United should have had another penalty in the second half. Video replays wouldn’t have solved the first mistake as that’s down to a poor interpretation of the rules (reckless vs dangerous) but it would have given the stonewall penalty for United and seen Giggs walk later for two yellows.
I was very upset that QPR have sacked warnock, because thats another nail in the coffin for us.
2 reasons, 1 with a new manager they will fly up the league.2 they will get the only quality
manager left and he is Mark Hughes.another manager we might have had if the board have had the bollocks to get rid of this cretin of a manager we have.WE are a laughing stock of a
club after that perfomance in the FA CUP.FOMM.
But surely we can get Warnock now? After all, we ARE the worst team in the PL and therefore Mick surely is the WORST ever manager?
See? Us happy clappers can see a silver lining in everything! 😛
Why on god’s green earth would you want Warnock?
Another old, (he’s even older than me, for god’s sake,) has been?
What is his track record?
Dare I suggest worse than McDickheads?
Nah, we don’t want him, not in a million.
There has to be someone out there.
Ancellotti?
Mouhrino?
Ferguson?
That bloke in Barcelona?
Anyone else!!!!!
FOMM
Not Warnock, please, he’s as bad as Mick.
How about Chris Coleman, he’s leaving his Greek club apparently – any thoughts?
He’ll be going for the Wales Job.
I don’t think we are the worst team in the prem at the moment, but the manager is one of the worst,Warnock is what he is the same as McIdiot just a good championshite manager
thats why they got rid of him just like we should have done but our board and so called
chairman fat moxey, don’t why the happy-clapper’s can’t see it.are you really enjoying
the so called football we’er being force fed.when will the penny drop.FOMM.
