Thanks a lot, Thomas. I always think the rule that you can’t be offside from a throw-in is grossly underused by most clubs, including Wolves, so it was good to see Jake Cassidy’s intelligent running and movement from Rickett’s throw-in. It seems to me that somebody should always be running into positions behind the oppositions defence at throw-ins in the opposition half. I hope we see more of that this season.
Good to see the promising Danny Batth get on the score sheet. IMHO, he should have been in the 1st team for three years now.
A feeble attempt to block O’Grady’s shot by Stearman when the Barnsley striker scored (although good play be O’Grady.) Is it just me, or did the goalkeeping leave something to be desired for both Barnsley goals? Hennessey went the wrong way for Mellis’s goal and O’Grady’s shot didn’t seem out of Ikeme’s reach.
Four games unbeaten for a team with a lot of young players in it, and two goals a game. So far, so good. Let’s hope the lads can keep this up as the opposition gets more serious.
Yes i initially thought it was Stearman who should have tackled O’Grady when he scored Nippy, but it was actually Ricketts. Stearman was farther left. No idea why Ricketts didn’t block the shot.
Also, I agree Hennesy could have done better with the first one. Agility is not his strong point imo. But no chance for Ikime for me; low and firmly into the corner. I think he’s a great shot stopper and i rate him for above H at the moment.
Agreed Martin.
See you at Ashton gate.
What have I been saying about Stearman at fault for one goal diving in, position awful you would not believe he’s played in the Premier he’s learnt nothing backs off when he should tackle and dives in when he should stay on his feet and push the attacker down the line not let him turn in side I’m telling you if Stearman stays in the side two things will happen we will be playing from at a disadvantage ie a goal down and will turn those playing along side him to shite. MARK my words remember this Blog.
Thanks for the vid Thomas. These could very useful this year with us in the third division so more would be very welcome especially as i will be out of the country a lot.
concrete boots and defence comes to mind but at least kj has been able to see for himself whats needed.. its gonna be interesting folks
Thanks for the highlights. I too thought Hennessy was poor on the first goal while he has been out injured his stock seems to have risen again. A strange phenomenon for me this. If Ikeme can recapture his form of the first half of last season i would start with him.
Generally encouraging think we have got some good young players who can make an impact at this level.
Same. I thought that he should have saved that. The shot was low but still quite central.
I agree about Ikeme. If not just for the fact that I don’t think you can start with any player who has been injured for that long. So Ikeme is No 1 for me against Preston.
Thanks for this. Good quality as well. I just hope we get the centre back partnership right and get a boss in midfield who can run a game. So many times last season we lost the midfield battle and were bullied. I think the forwards we have will be good enough if they get good service. We will have to keep possession of the ball a lot better than last season as well. Got my tickets for the Preston game so hoping to see some good football.
The thought of enduring a seven hour round trip train journey almost put me off travelling to Barnsley but I’m glad I made the effort; the Wolves team I watched with despair at the last home game of the season has passed into history thankfully and the new Wolves is much more entertaining and pleasing to watch.
There were errors and occasional failed passes but there was also something that has been missing for some time, that is enthusiasm, commitment and drive. Sigurdarson in particular seemed to be out to impress and was running as if it were a league game. It will take time for all these new faces in gold and black to become an effective team but most importantly they show they have the potential to do so.

I’m very proud to be a Wolves fan.
Decent performance by the Wolves on my birthday.
Still waiting for the cards and presents lads – don’t spend too much though!
Hennessey and Doumbia seemed half asleep though.
I am very pleased that Wayne has fully recovered from his Annus Horribilis (that’s piles isn’t it?) but I agree with some other comments that Ikeme is the likelier long term keeper and if we got a bid of a few million for Hennessey we should take it and invest in a good creative midfielder.
how young are you doogster…well be giving you the bumps – would be great if a load of the bloggers met up before a game at the mol….
I refuse to give my age away, all I will say is that a football team quite close to all our hearts beat Leicester City at Wembley to win the FA Cup Final the year that I was born.
However, the present Mrs DOOGooder says that I perform like a man much younger than my advanced years…..
…. and she still feeds me and she still needs me.
she only feeds you doog coswhile youre eating she empties your pockets…my wife removes anything of any value from my pockets-a bleeding magpie she is! I am hoping its the karaoke machine you mean when you say perform! ahhh I remember my great granddad telling me about the 1931 cup final..are you the wolves equivalent of the Chelsea pensioner:)
You’re a VERY cheeky boy!
My question is how does Mrs Presentdoogooder know how a man much younger than you performs?
What really went on in Glastonbury???
I hope that it’s because when we met I WAS a man much younger – but it’s a fair point. There will be a few questions asked when she gets home from work this evening!
Thanks for the highlights there is a link from my site to your page. Keep up the good work.
Still not sorted out the defence. 4 games played no clean sheet. We won’t score 2 or more every game so this issue has to be sorted.
Ricketts mistake for the second goal – he doesn’t seem to have made any difference.
Stearman and Elokobi are not centre backs.
If Ricketts really can play anywhere across the back then lets try Batth and Ricketts. But after that we still have a real problem in the centre of defence.
From what I’ve seen so far, I’m still thinking mid table at best – and if we don’t stop letting in goals we’ll struggle again.
I agree the defence still seems very poor. 4 matches and only 1 against a decent team and we are still leaking. Why are we keeping Stearman and Elokobi is beyond me.
Barnsley supporters were quite amused by Elokobi suggesting he would be better suited to their local rugby league team. Forwards are wary of his stature but he just cannot complete passes with any regularity. He tries his best and is a likable character but not what we need at the moment, a more reliable defender is required.
Agree totally git rid of both of them there both shite.
stearman for captain !! hes mark rankines love child
I’m just really pleased to see all the younger lads playing. I hope Ismail and Forde do well too.
Agree on the comments about defence even though I have only seen those highlights. We all know the capabilities of stearman and elokobi, need to get proper defenders in quick, or at least see vast improvement from those two. Batth looks good though.

Given the concerns about central defence, I’m wondering why Margreitter is getting so little game-time ? Is there a plan to loan him out for the season ?
I don’t understand that either. Thanks for reminding me. Margrietter and Batth is another possibility. They’ve performed well in the ‘reserves.’
I don’t understand this either. I would just like to see what he can do. I think we will be ok up front but a bit lightweight in midfield and still dodgy at the back. The money has to be there for new signings but doesn’t look like anyone coming in at the moment.
Happy birthday Doog.
Cheers Steppenwolfe!
S adly I feel that we have not really sorted out our back line. It is a problem and
T oo often have the mistakes at the back cost us. I am surprised to not hear of
E ven a little mention of Stearman’s lack of ability. Surely something can be
A rranged as I do not consider him fit to wear the shirt. I cannot for the life of me
R eally understand why he is still here and what KJ sees in him. I totally believe in our
M anager right now, but surely he must realise that he needs to get rid of someone as
A wfull as Stearman before he causes us major problems. I thought he had gone but
N ow realise he hasn’s and dread what could happen if he is considered worthy to play.
O nly time will tell if I am right but I can not really remember a time when he had an
U nbelievable season. I do however vividly recall the horrendous games he played in all
T oo often. My should get rid of him before it’s too late. He is a liability.
Totally agree Steve I was beginning to think I was a lone voice in he dark, thought I was in the TWILIGHT ZONE
I expect I am not alone amongst my esteemed fellow bloggers in having received an email from Wolves asking me to fill in a fan survey.
Part of the accompanying message said:
“We know we have a lot of work to do to rebuild bridges with our fans and one of the many
ways we want to do this is to improve the lines of communication.”
I haven’t had a chance to complete it yet but it will be interesting to see if there’s a ‘Sack The Fat Man’ tick box.
DOOG that’s what I put in to a question of how Wolves could improve their
chances going forward.
Qpr agree terms for Henry one down three to go 🙂
Am I a lone voice in saying I think Stearman has something to offer. Yes he makes gaffes, but I`ve also seen him give a colossal centre half performance at Old Trafford, doesn`t get harder than that for me.
He got England under 21 caps, and has the one ingredient necessary for the modern game ie exceptional pace, and can play centre back or full back and versatility is important in a small, young and inexperienced squad. If he has guidance from a decent manager and matures a tad, then he could be a very good player. I`m not surprised KJ has said Stearman is staying, if the choice is big George at centre half or Stearman, its a no brainer for me. Remember MM took Stearman to Ipswich last season, and reports on his efforts were more than ok.
With the squad still too big, can`t see many new faces arriving, so KJ has to play with what he has got. Bought my ticket for Preston today, and I`m cheering on the team, whoever is in the side. I`ll give Stearman the benefit of the doubt, and hope he becomes a big player for the team this season and beyond.
no youre not mark.. I never thought he was one of our better players but what he lacks in skill he kind of makes up for it with effort. if he cant do it in this league then I will have to eat my words but id put him in the team… we will need some experience next term for sure
I remember seeing Stearman when he first signed from Leicester and he looked a class act as a footballing centre half. I still think he is a bit weak in the air but he’s quick and he’s got a ferocious tackle on him. He got very good reviews at ipswich and i’m very glad he’s stayed with us.
Under Jackett(i suppose that’s a shirt), i’m hoping to see Wolves players improve at last, instead of deteriorating. I think we may be pleasantly surprised with Stearman. I also think Doumbia’s confidence was shot last year(gang of 4 influence?) and i’m expecting KJ to get the best out of him too.
Another CH/LB and maybe wide MF and we could do very well.
Less than 2 weeks and away we go on another journey into the unknown.
Since Christmas I haven’t given a shit because nothing changed, despite the millions of us calling for the kids to be given a chance.
Now it looks like they will be, and not before time.
Is it the air in Houston, or too much Boddingtons, or the fact that Ward is nowhere on the radar, but I am getting quite excited about the new campaign.
Yes, we’ve won a few friendlies against opposition we are expected to beat, and we’ve conceded a few goals, but the “want to play for the pride and the shirt” would appear to be around the club again, and whoever we beat, winning is infectious and hobbit forming, and I for one am keen to get going to see what we can really do.
I agree with Mark, Stearman is much more of an asset than a liability, unlike Elokobi, and can be a calming influence on the younger players.
He has ability and was for a large part of last season, unaffected by the four morons.
We all wanted the changes we’ve got on the pitch, let’s get 100% behind the lads from the off, and give them something to play for.
And, less we forget our manners,
Fuck Off W B
I must admit i’m slightly in two minds about Karl Henry leaving(unlike the other 3) and just a little sad.
I know he had some serious limitations but he still did a job for us when he was playing well.
He’s a Wolves man through and through and i wouldn’t see him as a particularly disruptive influencein the dressing room.
The main problem was Moxey extending his contract on too high wages and so he had to go.
I bet Harry Redknapp will have him purely as a defensive midfielder with strict instructions to get rid and never go near the opponents’ penalty area. Could be very effective for them. Harry normally knows what he’s doing.
Is the same Wolves man through and through, who virtually admitted that he didn’t want to play for Solbakken during his ill fated tenure. I was of the same opinion of Henry, until last season, now I can’t wait to see the back of him
Don’t think i actually saw or heard what he said on that subject so i can’t comment.
Players often prefer one manager to another but they should still give their best. I reckon Karl did that for the vast majority of his time at the club imo. As for last year it looked like a few of the players wanted to see the back of Solbakken and i agree that is bang out of order.
He’s going now anyway but i still have mixed emotions about it.
Interesting that ‘Henry and 10 others’ McCarthy didn’t want him at Ipswich though.
Without going over the old arguments i wish Karl well. He had a stinker on and off the field last season but as a fan who thinks midfield control and posession has a role i was one of the admirers. Perhaps under Rednap he may even find one or two forward gears !
W ithout a doubt my personal opinion on Stearman has not changed.
E ven with a number of you saying he is more of an asset than a liability.
A re we expecting him to be brilliant all of a sudden? I think he has had far too many
R ubbish games to be considered an asset. I am interested however in Clive’s take and
E ven agree that with our new manager he may be able to mature and do the business.
W e (I) hope that he does progress and that I am proved wrong, as we must stop the
O bvious leakage of goals that we undertake throughout each season. Winning and not
L osing games is key and we lose because our defense is lacklustre. I need to see some
V ictorious chant from the fans, not heads dropping because Stearman has once again
E xcelled in letting the attackers stroll past him, or put in a bad tackle and give away a
S tupid free kick etc. I am 100% behind the team – but I remain suspect of Stearman.
Getting worried now. KJ says today that wehave enough central defenders to come up with 2 or more good combinations.
I’d like to see just one pairing that could go 3 games without letting a goal in.
Stearman is NOT the answer. I believe he played full back at ipswich and did OK but not OK enough to land a place permanently.
Batth is one but who is the other ? Margreitter ? Ricketts ? NOT stearman ; not Elokobi ; not Foley. If it’s Batth and stearman tonight then we will let at least one goal in.
Unlike Clive I find myself getting more and more worried as the friendlies pass by and that defence is no better. I’m not looking forward to the new season at all. I really believe we are going to struggle.
There you go. Stearman mistake and we let a goal in again.
All the Div 1 opposition have to do is stop us scoring more than 2 and we’re done for.
Just 1 more match to sort the principal problem – the defence.
The midfield wont be great either it will be up and down football but hey a lot of fans like that – and at this level it can be enough if you have some good strikers.
McCarthorse, Clipbored, SS, and The Joker have all gone.
The crab has sidled of to QPR and the other three donkeys are on the beach.
We have not lost a preseason friendly.
Let’s just once, start a season off thinking positively, and get behind the team we have, and give them all the benefit of the doubt.
I am nowhere near being a clappy happer, but I love my club and all this negativity before a ball has been kicked in real anger is bollocks.
If you want to start the season already mired in doom and gloom, then that is your prerogative, but I for one am looking at the positives from this pre season.
As long as the team try 100% that is all we can ask.
If anyone wants to be a miserable old git, and slag off the players before they have been given a chance, I politely suggest you fuck off down to sandwell and see real misery, then count your blessings that you aren’t a shit fan.
I don’t have the luxury of being able to go to matches.
Count yourselves fortunate that you haven’t got to be stuck with watching (or not, as there is a tv blackout) the bunch of losers called the Houston Astros, on course for a third successive 100 loss season!!
Roll on the Preston match!!
NB. The true source of some of the above comment is under investigation. Thomas is on the job as i speak. Carry on up the Wolves !
I don’t mind up’n’down its down’n’down i don’t like.
In my unofficial capacity as KJ’s chief scout in Scandinavia, I’ve been watching Louisa Necib, France’s No 14, very closely.
Ball skills which most of our players should envy and a work rate that few could match.
What are the rules on signing women players to play in the 3rd Division?
I swear she’d be an asset and bring flair to Molineux not seen since Peter Knowles found Jehovah.
Just a thought 😉
would have fitted in well with the tarts on the pitch LAST season …
Last season’s team weren’t fit to lick her feet. *
*A job I’m happy to volunteer for if you’re reading, Louisa 😉
I was quietly reading my Houston Chronicle rag over morning coffee and imagine my surprise upon seeing that our local “sahcah” team, the mighty Dynamo, are to play a pre season friendly against that powerhouse of the English Premier League, Stoke City.
Tonight.
Further imagine my nearly uncontrolled joy at the prospect of watching a former Wolves player, one Jermainne Pennant, strut his stuff locally.
I nearly wet me knickers.
Then, I found out that poor little Jermainne didn’t make the trip, coz he was refused a visa on account of his prior drug convictions.
Then I did wet me knickers…..laffing!!!
By the way, I am NOT going to the game. 100 degree heat and 95% humidity does not make for comfortable watching, especially as there is no retractable roof or air conditioning at the stadium.
U.S. sports fans have to have their creature comforts, you know!
