So suddenly we are all Phil Collins fans.

The howls of the Wolves unfaithful have been loud and not so proud. An Express and Star poll recently showed that Kenny Jackett could not even garner five per cent of the popular vote to become the next Wolves boss. One suspects Kenny Hibbitt would have fared better.
It will undoubtedly add to the feeling that once again supporters have been reduced to helpless bystanders to the latest Waterloo Road car crash. But let’s not pretend this appointment is the latest affront to reason.
They do say even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Admittedly, the saying does not document the harvesting habits of malevolent weasels. And, against the backdrop of assumed incompetence, any appointment would – and arguably should – be met with scepticism.
A bit like Groucho Marx and his membership habits, a manager who survives several interviews with Messrs Morgan and Moxey is one instinctively to be avoided. It is certainly the opposite of reassuring.
But Jackett deserves our support. At the very least, he doesn’t deserve animosity. While Stale Solbakken was an ambitious appointment with obvious pitfalls and the decisions to turn to Terry Connor and Dean Saunders were clear signs of a football club hell-bent on self-destruction, this doesn’t wreak of recklessness.
Other options may have offered more glamour. Perhaps there was a miracle cure from abroad or a bright young thing in the lower leagues. Clearly there was an arch self-publicist in Owen Coyle ready to sell dreams of passing football if only you’d be willing to overlook events in the Bolton area in recent years.
In contrast, Jackett appears an unassuming fellow who has built his reputation on quiet competence. While headline-grabbing highs have not been his forte, nothing in his CV suggests disaster imminent. And make no mistake, two seasons too late, Wolves are now in the crisis-aversion business.
For the gambler who is willing to stake ever more outlandish bets in the forlorn hope of clawing back his winnings, the appointment of Jackett might feel like an admission of defeat. In truth, it’s the first sign indication in a long time of this football club facing up to reality.
Wolves fans may have been through too much too soon to be anything other than pessimistic. But this is a baby step back towards normality after a maddening 18 months.
Perhaps the No Jacket Required fans among us would be better served listening to track three of that album: Long Long Way To Go.

He will probably be able to get us out of this division but what then? We need someone who can take us all the way then keep us there. The whole reason it went wrong with McCarthy was in charge was the fact that he could only take us so far. Jackett could possibly be the same. Lets hope not and get behind him. Can’t get any worse – Can it??
I got the news this morning I’ve been in Cornwall perranporth the last week unable to get a signal im in Bude on way back doing this blog I don’t know if I’m more depressed that my holidays over or the that M M have appointed Jacket agree if he does get us up what then I carny see him getting us to the Prem that’s for sure I suspect again that he fits the ” won’t be to demanding ” category it’s just another poor choice from a poor group theyve picked the poorest candidate
Do you 2 expect us to get a premiership quality manager when we’re in league 1? Lets concentrate on the job in hand, getting out of this league and building a team that’s good enough to compete in the championship. Getting rid of the overpaid, under performing mercenaries along the way. I don’t know much about this bloke but the more I read the more I like. He probably won’t get us to premiership mid table mediocracy that we all dream of but I think he’s a good start.
Although I said the same about stale! You just don’t know how things are going to turn out. Sometimes a manager goes to a club and it just clicks (see WBA at the moment). After the last few disastrous appointments it’s about time something went right at our club.
I don’t think Staale was a disasterous appointment. I think the lack of support he got from the players along with M&M was the problem
Agree ! 100 per cent Stale didn’t stand a chance once senior players downed tools.
Who’s trying to steal my name?!! 😛
Paul,
Wow thats nostalga for me, used to love perranporth in the 70s. Town a bit wobbly but that beach.
Cant disagree, but about the best we could hope for with this bunch. safe hands i think .
Just read your reply, yeah bench brilliant especially for kids towns still wobbly stopes in a caravan on Lisky Hill view amazing just a pity couldn’t stop there all summer loads of great beachs up and down that coast.
So it’s official KJ his the first head coach to be appointed at Wolves and what does Moxey do, make stupid predictions like ” Kenny will be here for years ” and ” The special one” no wonder Morgan kept away has that fat greasy git not learnt anything from the past three horrible years making statements like that just winds the fans up, perhaps that why he does it. I carnt help but think he we be eating his words AGAIN come January/May.
Thinking more of “Against All Odds” but if Kenny Jackett does decide to accept he has a massive job on his hands and major surgery to perform before August. Feel we should have had a manager in place three weeks ago to start the process. Hope he doesn’t disappear for six weeks with 46 dvd’s to study. Any appointment is a gamble and we have no way of knowing if it will work out. We can only cross our fingers and hope. Think many fans are only just becoming aware of what league we will be performing in next season.
I’m puzzled about the ‘head coach’ job title; don’t know what the job description is but he’s NOT the manager – he won’t be performing any surgery – he’ll be more like a nurse, helping the patients’ recovery, getting them back on their feet, while the two M’s and Thelwell do the management. He may well make a good job of it, let’s worry about whether he’ll be able to cope with the Premiership when the time comes.
It will be good to hear news of our squad’s fate, who are we keeping? We’ll be OK with the likes of Sigurdarson and Griffiths up front, and Davies and Doherty in defence among other possiblities.
+
For me, Jackett would be an underwhelming appointment, but a safe one. I think he’d take us back up to the championship but no further.
I’d be straight behind him for having the balls to take it on, particularly under this board.
At the very least he would hopefully offer some level headedness and hopefully steady us for the upwards climb.
I just hope he’s the kind of manager to bring the kids through. If I’m honest I don’t know a whole lot about his style.
Above all else I just want an appointment to be made. The squad needs a complete gutting this summer and the longer we leave it. The more cancerous tissue is going to remain in there. It needs a complete refresh.
I agree everything Morph says.
I think he is reasonably safe hands, how much he can influence things remains to be seen.
Any newly appointed Wolves Head Coach will have my full support until he no longer deserves it.
I hope he accepts and lets get on with the job, he needs every hour available.
fans keep on about the board! now I have said a number of times that some of the fans are behind our demise – because the atmosphere at some games resembles a morgue, know being that the board is made up of mainly “wolves” fans, maybe we should get rid of them and bring in a non supporting wolves board – makes you think?
nah that wouldn’t work because then you would all moan saying they don’t care because they ain’t Wolves fans!
You’re mistaking cause and effect there though. The atmosphere was like a morgue because of what was happening on the pitch not the other way around. We got behind the team all the way as much as we could.
Wolves fans will cheer on any team that tries their hardest in spite of the result. Thats why the young lads like Bathh and Davis still got applause even when the team was losing.
The problem with the board isn’t where their heart lies anyway. It’s the poor decisions they’ve made. The poor sackings and appointments.
I’m just hesitant to back anything they do with their track record, irrespective of what team they personally support. Forgive me for being a pessimist but it’s been 2 season in the making.
Yet more tripe from the pen of johnwolf who despite his many postings on this and other forums has yet to say anything worth listening to.
More tripe from the boring world of Johnwolf, can you not find anything better to do with your life than to write garbage in the desperate hope that you will get some attention and wind up a few people. You and your kind are like a millstone around the clubs neck, you feign passion for the club, yet you are happy to see it run into the ground, thats a strange kind of devotion.
P.S. You had better go back to the village now, they are missing you.
I think you should have a word with yourself johnwolf, your beginning to piss the fans off.
And why was it like a that shit football your not a Wolves supporter
Wot a load a crap… The “board” is not being blamed its m and m.. I am from the school that as CEO the fat man carries the can 100 pc and has a long long track record of incompetence well before Morgan got here..,
Sack the fat man
Oh, jacket might just be the manager to get us out if div one but its usually three strikes and out and the fat man is in many more than that
Here’s a tribute to the man: http://www.bsad.org/tribute/jackett/colin.html
He also get praise from the Millwall fans, so he must know his trade. It should be a safe choice, but it depend on how the squad copes with his philosophy.
A bit of sense at last, its time we all realised we are a league 1 team and talk of some young manager leading us back to the premier is not likely to happen . I see jacket as a solid if not exciting
appointment and at the moment this club needs a solid base to start again. His record stands up to any of the other candidates so what is the problem
hat is what this club needs a rebuild
He is solid, dependable and talks with a great deal of sense. He has a decent track record at this level. Giving our ‘glorious league position’ we should welcome him with open arms. Good luck Mr Jackett !
I was also underwhelmed at first, but I became convinced when I read the overwhelmingly positive responses of Millwall fans who were genuinely appreciative of what he had done for the club. Let’s give the guy a chance!
But the $64,000 question is … if/when Jackett becomes the new coach, will he be able to take the club up to the Championship, stay a season or 2 there and then hopefully gain promotion to the Premier League?
This is what all Wolves fans want but to achieve that, the right man must be employed and Kenny Jackett’s CV does not exactly give Wolves fans optimism that he can deliver.
Of course it is easy to suggest Jackett will fail as he has never managed at PL level but that after all is the ultimate aim.
What Jackett has achieved with other clubs is to his credit but Wolves is different kettle of fish. Expectations are always high at Molineux due to the history of the club and failure is not easily tolerated as everyone knows, so the pressure is big and that’s not bringing into play the restraints that will surely be placed upon him with working to limited finances, a vastly reduced squad size with a great number of transfers out and not necessarily in.
Kenny Jackett could well meet all the necessary criteria and gain the promotions we all hope can be gained but it will be a rocky road and he will need to be mentally strong in all areas to convince Wolves fans he has what it takes. Many believe he is not the right man for the job with 44% (E&S poll) wanting Owen Coyle because of his achievments with Burnley but there are no guarantees with football management, just ask Mick McCarthy who was Steve Morgan’s ‘golden boy’ until Morgan threw a tantrum and then it was all over.
Hopefully Kenny Jackett is aware of how things can turn out and they can be quite nasty!
Not surprised by the howls of derision in response to Kenny’s imminent arrival, but people seem to forget we’re a League One club. The chances of us luring a ‘top name’ to Molineux when we’re in English football’s third tier are pretty remote.
Admittedly, I was less than impressed when Jackett was touted some six weeks ago. But his record suggests he’ll do a good job in this division IF the board – and supporters, for that matter – back him.
Kenny Jackett’s Gold/Black army!
bloody nora …spot on- at least we know what we are getting . lets wait and see before we all cast judgment. what other option do we have ? the real problem I can see is that fat face is still employed !
Oh god… is he going to bring Keogh back with him?
No chance, Keogh is well out of our league now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The appointment of Kenny Jackett represents a timely reality check.
A reality check for all us supporters who thought we could attract a really big name to a floundering club.
A reality check to the two comedians who have finally realised that we need a man with experience and the ability to handle the situation we are in.
And hopefully a reality check to the same two that the new coach will need some proper backing.
The more I think about it and the more I dig into Jackett’s background and watch footage of him being interviewed, I reckon that he will do a decent job of stopping the rot and turning the Wolves supertanker around.
I really hope that he is given the full backing of the fans and the board – it’s a done deal and any lack of support or dissent will be purely counter productive.
His name is obviously open to all sorts of puns, so from now on I shall call him ‘Strait’.
A) Because I think he probably is
and
B) Because that’s the jacket he could well end up in, working at the madhouse that we call ‘The Molineux’.
I’m underwhelmed but prepared to give the guy a chance on the basis of his record to date.
Above all else, what I want to see is a change of footballing style from the hoof and hope ‘percentage game’ of the McCarthy and Saunders eras to one in which we keep the ball on the deck and at least try to out-manoeuvre the opposition. If he can deliver that, he’ll have my full support.
Good blog!
While he isn’t my first choice, I think it will be a steady appointment in a time where we are rebuilding. Jackett has done impressive jobs at Swansea and Millwall, and can do the same here I think. There may come a time where we have to be ruthless and be more ambitious but I think Jackett can have us back at the top end of the Championship.
My worry is the style of football but I get the idea he will be advised to use the younger players and at least try to play a nice style of football…
We will see
Be careful Louie.
What do you mean?
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, as others say we are a league one club and the priority is to get back into the Championship. Forget the Premiership for now, look at Sheffield Utd who would have had the same hopes when first relegated to League One and are stuck there now.
He may not get us back to the Premiership but if he get’s us up then he can have a go – if he fail’s then we try again but we really need to escape League One before worrying about the Premiership!
Well thank god the club have done what they should be doing and that is “managing” the club and not listeneing to the fans, if they had done that with Bruce – who knows we might have been in the premiership.
The Express and Stir did a poll – 44% wanted Coyle – but that means 56% didn’t, the Birmingham Mail have asked the question: I s Jackett right for the Wolves – 78% say yes to 22% no, our problem is that we are not at the club 24/7 and therefore do not know and never will know what goes on – Steve Bull said recently that he knows Steve Morgan is 100% determined to take the club back to the premiership and wants to do well! so is SB a lier! I think not, Jez Moxey is the villian of mainly those from the South Bank! yes there are others, but mainly from the South Bank, and I still maintain it was because of his decision to give the unmentionables their seats – a decision that wasn’t his to make – but the authorities re; the FA and Police.
Steve Morgan decided to rebuild the ground (I didn’t think it needed it) and at the time there were not that many objections – I womder is there would have been if he had decided to start at the South Bank end first! all these things have been talked about over and over and over, so now we have a new manager, some wanted coyle, some wanted McClaren (me included), some wanted Davis, well we can’t have them all – so we have to give our whole support to Jackett and those that want to moan and grumble and winge like little girlies best go – go now and let us that want whats best for club carry on, after all said and done, I havn’t read to many comments on what is best for the club, only comments running down and ridiculing those that run it! lets face it – whoever took over the managers job -sorry coach some of you lot would still moan, maybe thats why they are were they are and you lot are were you are – because you know SFA and they do, either way I will give the new guy a chance and support him – not start moaning at the first time something goes wrong.
Mind you I think what the club should of done was appoint Coyle and watch has we go down again, whilst watching Jackett take Sheff Utd up -just like Bruce did!
THIS COMMENT HAS BEEN EDITED
Anyone who can’t get their points across without being edited doesn’t deserve the right to comment on Molineux matters.
I think you need to have a day out of your care home victor .. I think you are probably dead but being kept alive by all the bitterness running through your veins ! oops nursey is coming
I think we should feel pretty relieved if KJ is appointed, given some of the names who were touted from time to time.
His mission is the same as any other manager’s, namely to win the next match.
However his task is massive given the tools he has to work with (and for).
I’ll be there every match and I’ll get behind the team whoever is in charge. I think KJ had the job from the monent he left Millwall. All the other names banded about have just been a smoke screen to make it look like they have done a thorough search. It is just more BS. I am sick and tired of it now. Just appoint him and let him get started. After all what we the fans think doesn’t matter anyway does it?
Thanks for the blog mate, top drawer stuff as usual.
Agree he’s a safe pair of hands and that could be precisely what we need.
That said, certainly wouldn’t have been my pick based on a low opinion of Millwall last season, despite cup success. But I suppose he was working with limited resources there.
Of the leading candidates to emerge, McClaren was my preferred choice. I think he would have been just as steady, but brought a greater breadth of experience to the table.
He’ll just have to remain my Sussudio.
can you ban the knob by the name of johnwolf…poison is all he spouts..he makes clive look like a nun !
He may have a safe pair of hands Thomas,(didn’t realize he was a keeper)but will he be able to run the team affairs as he wants and be able to attract the player’s we need to get out of this league and not forgetting play some decent football to bring the fans back.UTW.
It will be an excellent choice, if and when it happens. Kenny clearly knows what he is doing and also knows when it is time to move on. It looks to me like he he moves on once he has taken a club as far he can go with the available money and board support, or perhaps knows his limitations. Either way he sounds like a man we can trust and get behind.
If thats true, he’ll move on before the season starts !
Fair play to all those who are pleased with the appointment and want to get behind him and i hope it works out. But personally i have deeper reservations. In his 6 years he has not really taken Millwall on that far. Without on loan Woods scoring 11 goals in an 8 week period they probably would have gone down. In his time there have been a lot of players in and out but the only one to leave for a fee of any note is Morison – an old style forward who now plays for Leeds.
Then there is his ‘ undemonstrative’ style as the Express and Star calls it. Watching his interviews i find it pervades his whole character he rarely seems to smile or crack a joke or say anything that isnt entirely predictable. Maybe this wont matter but it is also his role to inspire and motivate.
Anyway as always time will tell and as ive already said it will in the end all be down to results.
We have to ask ourselves Colin
Why have none of the bigger Championship Clubs with more resources gone in for him..
Yes he is safe to get us out of League 1 but so would Saunders and he already knew the players.
I think its a mistake but I agree with you its about results and if he takes us up he will be the new saviour who can do no wrong.
Thanks for reply Nige a lot of fans are obviously warming to a new appointment so i am trying to keep my critical faculties in check. Let the fans enjoy it who knows i might be proved wrong.
Colin I’d take a slightly different spin on KJ’s last season at Milwall.
You say without Wood they would’ve gone down? Well they were sniffing around the play offs when he left and had no money to bring in a replacement.
Who knows the could’ve finished in the play offs and gone up if he’d stayed!
2 sides to every coin and all that.
I take your point KWolf – the appointment is all done and dusted now anyway and i will look forward with an open mind.
I know we’re in Div 1 now but this is the first time i’ve seen us described as such and it’s only really sunk in how awful it is.
‘They claim long-time bookies favourite Kenny Jackett has been offered the role at the helm of the League 1 club..’ !!!!!!
Sadly that should read …. 3rd Division club .
Was a bit of a difficult situation to be fair. We needed a stable, long-term appointment given the state of the club and the repeated knee-jerk hirings and firings.
But there’s also the hope (expectation?) that we will be climbing the divisions in the coming years.
No candidate offered sufficient experience of all three divisions.
With that in mind, this really is the only choice. I’m sure we’ll all get behind Kenny, but I’m not so sure how patient some fans will be if things don’t start well. Looking at a number of forums, many are believing the bookies’ hype yet again, thinking we’ll walk the division.
Was anyone else interviewed ? Kenny Jackets name was the 1st to be mentioned the day after he left Millwall did he know the Wolves job was waiting for him ? ? just a thought.
KJ is confirmed. No mention of length of contract. If its a rolling one year
It will say a lot.
Lets hope we can look forward to some sensible wheeling and dealing.
Good luck Kenny.
KJ would not have been my among my first choices (that would have been McLaren or Davies), but he still inspires me with a lot more confidence than Saunders, O’Connor or Solbakken.
He will sort the club out playing wise and I expect him to be good enough to take us up at the first attempt, beyond that we will have to wait and see. My only grey area is the type of football that Millwall played last season, I must be honest and say I am unsure, havng only seen them play twice. Anyone any thoughts on his playing style, can we expect the attractive, expansive football that the board are looking for, if we can then KJ is an excellent choice.
Well, he’s in now. Time to get behind him and the team and see if we can get out of this mess.
First job Mr Jackett: Clear out the dross.
Former Millwall boss Kenny Jackett on his appointment as manager of Wolves: “I am both proud and delighted to have been appointed Head Coach at Wolves, and am really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
Let’s hope he gets it right then.
He’s also quoted as saying that after SIX years in charge he felt the time was “right for me to move on”.
Now if that’s not a hint, Mr Moxey, I don’t know what is.
Odd appointment for me.
Very little experience. Almost none outside Watford. No connection to the Midlands at all. Hasn’t dealt with an overbloated squad. Has taken a step down from Millwall.
Hope he knows what he’s doing.
First of all…apologies about the comment on the last blog, was bang out of order and it had been a pretty bad day for me but – hell, can’t stay away from here really 😛
And second – Jackett actually has quite a bit of experience as manager and I think that’s the point here – he’s safe and with his CV it’s likely that he can get us out of League 1 to the Championship… I dunno if he can then take us to the Premier League but all the same he has my full backing!
I always thought you had a nasty side young Hamlet! Really scary.
Well, I like to think I’m calm enough most times but that’s not the first time I’ve got needlessly pissed off it must be said! Tell you what, I’ll just drag myself away from here if I’m debating and having a bad day – probably best 😛
Don’t worry, just shows you care.
Well, when you put it that way… 🙂
It not only shows you care, Hamlet. What would life be like without a good old verbal punch-up every now and then? Great fun! Helps us get rid of our frustrations. And, hell, don’t we Wolves fans need chances to do that?!
When Hamlet kicks off usually ends in a
Mass ruck i just keep out of it. Dont know why Thomas doesnt do something about it. lol.
Well if he was appointed three weeks ago, and its just been announced, the meetings in between have been about culling the squad, and the new faces for next year – maybe we are not so far behind as some fans on this blog think. Also he has been involved at the highest level with other clubs in a variety of roles, so I think his experience is a spot on match for what the club needs.
Good luck to him, I hope he succeeds, the club, the team and the fans desperately need it to happen.
Have followed the intelligent blogs without responding for years. You all write very well and are clearly not put off by some of the less well considered opinions expressed by so many of your readership. This pre-emptive strike is particularly good. Well done and keep it up. People like you are The Real Wolves and hope for the future
Very kind of you to say Steve, thanks.
All opinions welcome as long as they don’t break the one golden rule (respect the views of others). You can’t be a blogger without a thick skin.
All opinions welcome as long as they don’t break the one golden rule (respect the views of others). …and don’t threaten (wish I had the balls) to commit murder in the good name of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
I know some people are saying, “He’s got no experience in the Premiership.” “He’s not a big name.” “We’re biger than Milwall.” But I guess it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee – we’re in league 1.
I personally think Coyle and MacClaren were more attractive, but Kenny does have the pedigree to perform at our level.
No he didn’t get Milwall promoted to the Premiership, but he did take them a lot higher than perhaps they had a right to go!
Let’s worry about who the right man for the Premiership is when we’re knocking on the door again – until such a time I suppose I’m going to put my Jackett on!
I think maybe you are right on this one Ade. I too was hoping for Coyle, McLaren, or someone of that experience/calibre, but considering they can get Premiership, or at worst Championship interest, why would they want to come to Wolves with all the baggage we carry at the moment? Like you say, we are league 1 now, and further away from the Prem than perhaps we have been in a very, very long time. First things first, I suppose, is a manager who will stop the slide and stopping us from slipping into Div 2. How about that for reset expectations! If Jackett can get rid of Ward and Henry this summer, I’ll certainly start to think there is more to him than meets the eye 🙂 Here’s hoping! 🙂
FANTASTIC at last that pair of Mongols running our club have got something right . I never wanted Owen coyle .jacketts win ratio .. Only losing one in six is head and shoulders above the other candidates . He has my absolute support ,let’s hope the powers support him too. Well done wolves . Exactly the right man
Good luck Mr Jackett, I didn’t want you….but….now we have you you are part of the Wolves family and will be supported as such, get us promoted and you will not believe the support you will get, get us to the prem and you will be up there with Mr Turner….be bold, be brave, don’t take crap from Moxey and this could actually work out well…it’s Friday, its sunny and I have had a lunchtime beer…all suddenly seems rosy in the Molineux garden.
UTW
OK lets get the negatives out of the way first.
I am not impressed with our so called recruitment process, but I am simply so negative toward Moxey maybe my judgement is clouded.
With Moxey and Co we were never ever going to have a blockbuster appointment, overall this seems about as safe as we could hope for. It seems Mclaren didnt even warrant an interview.
Its a fact not that many guys probably want to put their careers in the hands of the the two Ms.
Lets face it unless the two Ms change their stripes how much fundamental change can there be.
OK thats out of the way and behind me.
Our new coach has my fullest backing and 100% support, I do think there is potential in him. Overall a good fit and I think safe hands. Lets worry about the Champ and the Prem when we are there.
His quiet demeanour is fine with me, I am similar. Quiet people are usually very effective motivators.
Kenny as far as I am concerned, I am 110% behind you you have my suppert and faith until I think you no longer deserve it.
All I ask of you is three things:
1) You have sold your services to the two Ms………………….. please dont ever sell your soul to them.
2) Give it your all and show us you care.
3) Base your decisions on your football knowledge and experience, if you are buggared around by those who have none stand up to them or leave and tell us why.
Oh yes and could we have an attack that can score and a defence please.
Good luck for the future, you have joined the greatest club in the world please fix it for us.
Not much to ask is it?
Let’s hope he does the business!
I read this blog most evenings but rarely respond. The regular contributors here tend to cover all the latest issues so well with informed and eloquent comment, that I would have little to add.
Thanks to all of you – especially Thomas and Ben.
For what it is worth, I feel that the appointment of Kenny Jacket as our Head Coach is a good decision. He is not “Mr Personality” but that would never be a factor for me. His managerial stats (not everything I know but do give some indication of competence) are better than two other names associated with the position (Coyle and Rosler) and reading between the lines, I think he is a man who relishes a challenge and will quietly and calmly go about the business of re-shaping and re-building the playing side of our great club. I do hope so!
Good luck KJ and as always………………………
UTW
Thanks for comment and kind words mate. Always nice to hear a fresh perspective.
Like you, I was lukewarm on Coyle at best. Couldn’t reconcile the double failure at Bolton (relegation and subsequent poor Championship form) despite success he had prior to that.
Well this appointment is a disappointment. We needed a Churchill and we got John Major. Kenny 52 years old and never really achieved anything coaching, just always doing enough to scrape by. A metaphor for wolves recently I guess, or maybe not as we are in free-fall. Does anyone out there feel he is as good as Mick. I think not and as such it has to be seen as a backward step. As a comparison, I read an article on David Moyes recently and how he was plucked from Preston by Everton. However, their research had revealed the level of study and dedication he bought to the job, and he had compiled a personal coaching and managerial manual from the age of 22! Also he achieved a lot in his time there. This is exactly what Flitcroft has bought to Barnsley and before you boo me, remember if he had been in charge at Wolves with the same results Barnsley had, we would have been higher mid-table. I feel this is where we should be concentrating. I know people say Kenny worked with little money;so did others, Chris Powell being an example, and they have achieved far more. I feel we have missed a chance. What do I expect? Well we have a well travelled older manager grounded in old ideas with a mediocre record so I believe we will be mid-table only, forget automatic qualification. So much for a studied approach, you couldn’t make it up really could you. Oh to be a Wolves fan!!
The vast majority on here are solid GOLD & BLACK, So come on lads lets give Kenny Jackett our support and roar WOLVES out of Div1 back into the Championship. Hells Bells I’m 76 I can’t hang around too long 🙂
Hang on in there graziano – it’s going to be a good trip!
even if more trips to the loo and falling asleep as the wolves score become order of the day 🙂
I got to tell you guys after supporting nearly 60 years thick and thin and recent debacles, I am bloody excited and can not wait for the new season. I will never ever not be a Wolves supporter.
Come on me (new) babies, I wanna see you running thru brick walls for the new Coach
UTW
Together we can.
Morgan and Moxey wake up this club is bigger than the both of you 100% genuine effort please or go away.
Under-whelmed would be an under-statement from my point of view.
Still, results speak for themselves.
We shall see when we kick off in August.
What I like about Jackett is that he is said to have a combative personality, and he has quit clubs when he felt he no longer had 100% support. I think the greatest need at Wolves is to curb Moxey’s inclination to interfere in football matters. So Jackett’s appointment looks a very good one to me.
He started the Swansea revolution. If he can start a revolution at Wolves that equals that, then he will be an ideal appointment.
I just hope that Thelwell and Jackett can show backbone in resisting Moxey’s interference. Thelwell and Jackett are not perfect, but they are our only hope now. My chief worry is that Jackett will quit after a few months because he’s pissed off by our CEO.
Long live Thelwell and Jackett!
They are certainly in the Premiership of the most boring looking people I have seen!
Now look here.
I’ve had a few drinks and have persuaded the present Mrs DOOGooder to smoke the old camper van down to The Barge Inn at Honeystreet tomorrow.
Fine weather, a walk over the Wiltshire Downs, a few beers and a drop of OZ red – and I’m on a promise. A magic night spent in the shadow of The White Horse.
Wolves have a new manager – sorry, Head Coach – and all is right with the world.
I’m feeling really positive and optimistic.
What could possibly go wrong?
Re the E & S article concerning the poll ‘two thirds of Wolves fans don’t want Kenny Jackett. These wouldn’t be the same fans who didn’t want Steve Bruce, would they ?
Get real; we’re in the third tier now and have probably got the best man available.
As for me, Mick, I’m happier with Jackett than I would have been with Bruce. I don’t think Bruce would have got us promoted last season with the mood M & M were in. And for the long run Jackett’s football looks better to me. (In any case, I’m sure there were financial and/or vision reasons for not employing Bruce. Blaming the fans was just an excuse—a weak one considering M & M’s usual attitude towards the supporters.
A safe pair of hands is just what we need after the past year, and that’s what Jackett is. He knows the league inside out too. it’s not the glamorous appointment some would have hoped for but I’m not too downbeat about it. Welcome Kenny. Let’s hope he gets more than six months.
I don’t know much about the man or the style of football his teams play, the Millwall fans appear to be sorry he is going.
I wouldn’t say he was my first choice, but if I am honest with myself that maybe because of my first point, knew nothing about him, he has not got the same public profile as the likes of Coyle and McLaren. However these two have slightly tarnished reputations with recent failures on there CVs , unlike Mr Jacket.
I wish the bloke all the best and think we should all give him our backing, it will be interesting to see what he can do with a club with finance and some up and coming kids .
It will also be interesting over the next couple of weeks to see how he handles the like of OHara and Johnson, I hope he is the type who takes no shit.
COME ON ME BABIES
To be honest he is not for me..
Sure he will get us out of this division but so would have Saunders.. So would many other average Joes.
It smacks of submission of being a lower league club.
Of Course Millwall fans love him, getting them promoted to the championship and just about staying there by the skin of their teeth is considered major success to them.
That i’m afraid is all we can now hope for.
An FA Cup Semi at Wembley (althjough with a different outcome) wouldn’t go amiss! I’m not creaming myself at the thought of KJ but am optimistic he will not suffer fools (Moxey and the old guard) gladly. At least that’s a start!
Decided to post this time rather than just read the blog! Jacket not my 1st choice if I’m being honest but having said that I’ll get behind the team 100% being a loyal fan (not a customer!!). Lets hope he kicks a few backsides into gear & we start playing as a team again with some good results coming from it! Maybe that’ll mean that Johnwolf has less things to winge at! UTW
Thanks for the comment mate.
Despite what certain people might suggest, we all want the same thing, which is to see the team doing well.
When Jackett resigned I text this to the guy I go away games with… Before the media piled into Coyle, Brolley and co. Sticking with it. UTW
“I like the choice, experienced getting out of league one, solid championship performance on small budget and a little bit of prem experience. Also won a couple of cups and gone deep in FA cup twice”
Well, I was heading for Davis but throughout the last couple of seasons I thought the Jackett was quietly impressive. Good appointment – does what it says on his tin and what it says on his tin is what we need. See Graham Taylor’s E&S article. He’s dropped down a league for the Wolves, so he can see the promise and he’ll build us back up again, given an appropriate amount of time. Perhaps already time to start the prediction league – though the scoring might be a bit complex!
I’d have thought Wolves fans (‘we dow want Staive Broos’) should be the last people Morgan and Moxey should listen to. So, let’s get this straight, fans who drink 4 pints every lunchtime and think they know more about football than their manager think they should decide who is boss???
The day a football club listens to its fans regarding such important appointments is the day that club should prepare itself for abject failure.
Good luck to Jackett. He shouldn’t worry about winning over the ‘tactical terrace tw*ts’, mind. They’ll find fault in everything.
Based on this logic over the last 2 years the 2 muppets running the club certainly know a lot more than the fans…. Don’t they ??
Its the fans fault again.. that’s why we are in the 3rd tier.. Abject Failure..
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!!
Reading todays thread Nige perhaps we all owe Steve and Jez an apology for pulling off a major footballing masterstroke. Anyway might as well go with the flow and let the fans enjoy there euphoria.
Behave. Moxey has forgotten MORE about football than any drunken fan who rocks up at 2.58 after his 4th pint. The arrogance of supporters never astounds me. Moxey is a football man. And Morgan (though hes cocked up a lot) has the club’s best interests at heart. Some of the supporters base their opinions on perceptions, hence the ridiculous barracking of Stale and the pursuit of Bruce. 99.9 of football fans know jack about football – FACT
Your the one who sounds drunk mate.
Not drunk. These people work in football. Someone who has no affinity with a club (other than every Saturday) is suddenly telling them what they do right/wrong, which player should be in the side/ dropped. It’s nonsense. In no other industry would this logic apply. But everyone is an expert in football. Well, yes, Moxey is. Morgan isn’t. But decisions have been made in good faith.
And, for once, I’m glad they ignore the keyboard warriors/phone-in lunatics who in the main have no clue
And, Colin, it’s ‘you’re’, not ‘your’.
Your a football fan yourself so by your own logic you know nothing too. Your welcome to your views and i read everybodys with interest but when i reasonably express mine i would rather not to be to behave.
Fair comment Colin. But not many supporters are as erudite
Jon what is erudite?
probably a greek glue dave 🙂
Thanks Goldy, I will have a look next time in B&Q
If Moxey was an expert in football would we have gone down two divisions so quickly?
It’s a contradiction.
Moxey’s actions do not in any way entitle him to be an ‘expert on football’ Jon!
Jon clearly works for the club
Moxey is probably his boss.. or a relation ?
There can be no other explantion for such drivel…
Premier League to League 1 in 18 months is the work of a footballing genius…
By the way The fans who drink 4 pints at Club prices and turn up at 2:58 each Saturday are just the kind of People Moxey Loves…
Nige he’s certainly got a problem or three.
There can be no defence for Moxey and Morgan.
Actions and results speak louder than words and their ‘results driven business’ has failed.
Anyone with an ounce of self respect, in Moxey’s shoes, would have fallen on his sword and resigned.
Someone asked would fans expectations of Jackett might be?
My response is that if he can win five games on the trot, with Thelwell and Moxey fiddling in the back; it will be a major accomplishment.
Forgot to say its probably all that football Knowledge that Moxey has forgotten that’s lead us to league one..
Terrible shame that he forgot it at Stoke too, when they dropped to the 3rd tier and improved after we head hunted him for all that knowledge he’d forgotten….
Oh hell forget it I must get back to my 4th pint….
No he loves the one who buy 4 pints and a pie
Jon i could blog with you for a week about football fans and the social media and your demarcation of different participents. However better leave it there. I hope you come back as a regular.
The great Stan Cullis was once asked “what’s your best team Stan” Stans reply, Any 11 from the south bank, nothing changes, just agree to disagree lads, keep supporting our great team.
” THE SOUTH BANK – THE SOUTH BANK!! “
What an absolute load of bollox. Moxey is a finance man – I am a fan. Having run a football league for 3 seasons as League Secretary, I know a lot about football, but will not know as much as some fans who have followed the game all their lives and not been involved in football management. You’re talking utter tosh!!!
How anybody can call lard ass a football man is astonishing. He is a finance Director made into a CEO. Irrespective of what kind of MAN it is a CEO is employed and judged on decisions and judgement in ANY other business this clown would have been sacked for gross incompetence.
Judge on results not on the fact his cock ups are honest
Sack the fat man for a brighter future
Barcelona are controlled by the fans. So are Real Madrid. Virtually all the Bundesliga clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, are 51% owned by the fans. Do you think they are all worse than Wolves?!!! Taking the capitalist route, we hardly have any English clubs left: ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool, Villa, and Sunderland are American clubs; Man City, Fulham and Forest, Arab; Chelsea and Reading, Russian; Southampton, Italian; QPR and Cardiff, Malaysian; Birmingham, Chinese. Looks like the German rule of 51% ownership by the fans is pretty good to me.
agreed nippy .. any government that didn’t at least listen to the public on important matters is on par with the communists.. somewhere amongst the varied opinions is the truth albeit that you have to pick through it. although at the point of deciding it really can be only one man that makes the choice..which is what scares most wolves fans after the dreadful decision making the last few seasons.
Now we have KJ and everyone wants/ needs to get behind him.
All those here who seem to think it is a great appointment, I would ask
a. what registers him as success ?
b. What registers as OK he can keep his job
c. what registers as failure and he has to go ?
A) Promotion in first season, Championship playoffs or better season 3-4
B) just outside playoffs season one, promotion season 2, Championship playoffs or better season 5
Both of the above coupled with stability (listen up, M&Ms), and substantial involvement of younger players from a successful youth policy
C) failure in a and b. Actually, for many deluded or disillusioned fans this would probably be failure to qualify for the Champions League by Season 4.
Those seem very realistic and reasonable targets.
Even after the Friday night beer & wine!
pferdepferde –
My expectation of Jackett is simple.
Win five games on the trot, which we haven’t done for seasons.
It will be a massive achievement with Thelwell and Moxey fiddling in the background.
Good luck Kenny, I’ve a feeling he will prove the doubters wrong. Just get behind him, and lets hope Morgan and Moxey back him.
All hail King Kenny II.
All I hope is that he inspires a team to play with heart and restore some pride and joy in Wolverhampton Wanderers.
He has an uphill task but if he succeeds he will have a lot of grateful supporters’ respect and admiration, as I feel it will be despite and not because of his employers.
I was in the Davis corner personally as I think we need a total change of direction. However, if we are to get out of this mess everyone must pull in the same direction so good luck KJ you have my full support. One question from me is does a head coach have an assistant? If so who is it going to be. I think KJ had Ray Lewington previously – good guy for a club in our position I would suggest.
I suspect we will have to witness some balls sailing over the head of midfield towards a big target man up front but I guess that is what gets you out of this division. What we must not do is make the same mistake as with Mick – great man to get us up but not able to take us to the next level.
Still, that day is a long way off, it is a long way back, this Jackett should have been brought to last not wear out in six months.
Good luck to you Kenny.
All this talk about “League One” makes me laugh.
We are in the fuckin’ third division and that is a disgrace.
A new person has joined the madhouse, apparently with his eyes open, but anyone who thinks Keogh is a footballer, like McDickwadhead before him, has a few loose screws.
However, he’s here, so let’s, once again, give the new bloke the full support he is gonna need, and judge him on Wolves results, nothing else.
The cancer still remains.
Ummm…..interesting angle on ‘full support’!
Fully agree. Morgan has showed us he still doesn’t ‘get it’. Had a real chance to wipe the slate clean and send Moxey packing. How on earth could a CEO survive such a decline? Makes me sooooo angry every time I think about it!
Anyway full backing for KJ.
Keogh was a decent footballer ruined by some of our “dickheadwad” support as you so eloquently put it, who thought Freddy Eastwood should’ve been in the side ahead of him, despite him refusing to run, play for the team and also his fantastic ability to shoot into the shins of defenders in front of him when 40 yards out anyway.
Keogh could link up play well, stretch defenders and formed a pretty decent partnership with SEB when he first joined. Wasn’t up to the Premier League, hopeless in front of goal and wasn’t mentally tough enough but wouldn’t touch us with a bargepole, nor should he the way he was disgracefully treated.
Anyway… rant over and hopefully Kenny leads us back to where a club our size belongs!
Utter nonsense.
In your opinion. I suppose we could debate it properly but you seem incapable…
After suffering three weeks of ‘made up’ news from the likes of E & S, it will be great to read some fact based articles again. Obviously who’s going and who’s staying is of major interest plus the possibility of any new names though it’s unlikely that there will be many of the latter.
Time passes so slowly in June and early July but KJ has got rather a lot to do before we head up to Chesterfield to enjoy some evening sunshine in our new shirts. As for the appointment, it doesn’t really matter what we think, or who we wanted individually, it’s now a case of wait and see. All things considered it does feel more optimistic to finally have someone in as head coach rather than playing the ‘guess what M & M are doing’ game. The Sportingbet era is nearly over, we just need a few more farewells and perhaps then we’ll be ready to start that long journey upwards again.
Apparently Jackett deal was delayed over compensation. Wolves offered £1m + Johnson, Ohara & Henry but Millwall insisted on just the £1m.
that made me laugh ..although I think that would be nearer the truth than wed like to believe
I know most of the posters on here will give backing to our new head coach. He was not my choice and although I am here in Thailand wish KJ best wishes and luck, seems to be a safe pair of hands and maybe it’s what we need. Hope he is strong enough to get rid of the underachieving senior players and replace them with players that want to play for our club. Thanks for Thomas and Ben for giving us the chance to air our views on this great Blog, cheers lads.
lets see if M & M can grow a pair and get sako to stay (give us 12 months please) he is the most exiciting player we have had for years. £4.5m mooted from Fulham is not enoeugh In 12 months time he would be an even better player. Problems at wolves will be sorted if we can keep these type of players and get rid of the forward Doyle (no goals) and past it O’Hara (runs like a duck), square pass Henry (does he watch good holding midfielders play ?)and drunkard Johnson (should have been sacked for turning up for work at x thou/week in that state). PLEASE PLEASE SAKO Stay – M & M get the folding money out for him and we should be back in the championship next year, We have to keep our good players and remove the dross. Please Wolves fans lets start a campaign to keep SAKO
We should’nt need a campaign.
What happened to honour thy contract?
That is what they are written for.
I agree but will we ever really progress if we sell our best players and do not just pay up yhe contracts of the overpaid s**t players we have ? Did SEB really have to go ? did he want to ? was he even aked ?
A fit SEB in div 3 playing in the old gold and black. We’d murder the league – wouldn’t we?
yes we would which is wht i get so frustrated when we sell our better (and trying players) it must make more commercial sense to pay them what they are worth/week – but M & M cannot or will not see this. What is wrong with having your quality players on more money than the improvers/kids ? – surely the managment should be able to control the squad without them feeling undervalued ?
When the new Wolves assistant manager gets the sack in a few months time, he can say “I’ll get my Jackett.”
We have changed the manager. Wow! havent we done that before. Is jacket better than mccarthy, connor, stale, saunders. Time will tell. The problems with our club – the board of non footballing directors, overpaid and rubbish senior players – are still there. Keep blaming and changing the manager is a recipe for disaster. Oh wait, isnt that whats happened. Unless the board back jacket financially, and i dont mean giving him wads of money then we will continue to go backwards. By backing jacket financially, i mean taking a hit on rubbish players like o hara, and selling him at less than moxey values him to get him out of the club ie if moxey wants £1m but somebody offers £5 i would sell him and drive him to the bus stop. Once the players know the board are willing to do this to lazy underperforming players, this gives the power back to the manager in the changing room. What the manager says, goes. If jacket is not given this power by the board, it is another useless appointment and we will be relegated again, because the senior players are too powerful, but are really poor players. Last 2 seasons prove that.
You’ve hit the nail on the head.
No net for two days and now this. Underwhelmed, on the cheap, expected. Not my choice and not sure he is best available – cheapest – I guess so.
Same M&M and same players at moment – hope that changes.
Is he better than MMc or Staale?????????????? Got my doubts.
M&M have to back him but history says otherwise.
All been said.
Even graeme souness says a club is only as good as the senior professionals as they set the standards. Hope jacket gets rid of them asap
It could be argued that there is not a “professional” amongst them.
It makes the sacking of SS and the recruitment of Beano even more galling.
There is little chance that Sako will stay. We will build a functional team.
Don’t think it will be that thrilling to watch. We are in result mode.
If KJ can get us up great. But there hangs the thread….will investment be incremental thar arrives at the right time to push on? Two M’s history says it won’t be…problems still there.
KJ’s reign will be in spite of the 2 M’s not because of it.
Results mode is fine, as long as we win.
A 1 – 0 victory every week is far preferable to a draw or loss every week.
I remember Leeds grinding out boring wins, but they won stuff.
Like Linden above i wanted Davis and a new broom but maybe working with Jez (respect) and the other guy would have cramped his style anyway – i think he is his own man.
Over the rather dubious selection process i have expressed my doubts many times but now the decision has been made i will heed my fellow Wolves bloggers and now put these to one side. Looking forward to the new season wish it was next week !
i find it hard to believe how morgan has made his money ? he has not made a good decision since may 2011 and how moxey is still there is unbelievable , and show he is clueless. as for jacket well who know not my choice . but if he was
to lose the first 3/4 game the fans will crucify him as he only got 5% of vote so it is going to
be very hard.
A sensible, but not sensational appointment. I’m surprised that there aren’t more Jackett
jokes, but don’t let’s get too hung up about that. I just hope that he’ll be more like an Italian
blazer than a donkey. I think that he will do OK, and hope that it will be a long time before
he gets a full metal jackett. Perhaps the M&M chose him to complete a cullinary trilogy,
scouse, pie mann and spud. Gook luck, Kenny.
I just remain sceptical of any managerial appointment made by the clowns running the
show.
Now should be a time to rebuild for the future and back a young, hungry manager and players. This appointment stinks of short termism and I can’t see it is what we need.
I have even more scepticism over Kevin Thelwell. Is he really qualified to be elevated to his current position? Who took the footballing decision that he could do that job effectively? The same clowns that have made terrible footballing decisions over the last 18 months no doubt.
I, like many fans find it hard to be anything but sceptical, cynical and negative after what has happened recently. I have Albion fans at work that won’t give me stick anymore as they feel sorry for us!!
For once, I hope I am proved wrong. UTW.
As iv’e said KJ wasn’t my first choice or second come to that, but he’s hear now and i’m pretty sure he’ll get the backing of the fans as long as he’s straight and full on for the team and not
just another makeway for moxey and co….i just hope for all our sakes theyv’e got this one right.UTW…PS Just read a the article in E&S about KJ it a good read.
I haven’t been on here for a while as it was all getting way to negative (as I’ve told Ben a few times over a pint or 2), had a quick scan through the comments here and it seems people are generally quite upbeat about the new manager. I can’t even begin to think how much anger there was on here last season but I get the impression everyone’s as up for next season as I am. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as disappointed as the next man about the predicament we’re in at the moment but, as much as it pains me to say, we deserve to be where we are. There are a few players at our club who need to take a long hard look at themselves as their attitudes and egos have destroyed our club. An opinion that was recently confirmed by a newly acquired friend who works at the club and is close to the players and ex-manager.
The last few seasons have been unbelievable for both the right and the wrong reasons, either winning promotion or battling relegation. It’s never dull at the molineux (apart from the Colin lee days) and I’m hoping next season will be unbelievable for all the right reasons. I thought we were going to be pushing for promotion last season so I’m not taking anything for granted but surely we’re too good for this league, even if we loose half of our first team.
Whoever you blame for the major smeg up that’s been the last couple of seasons, and some people have the front to blame us the loyal fans, it’s about time the fans, players, management and even the board unite in sorting things out and bringing a bit of pleasure back to match days.
I’d like to add how disappointed I was to see SEB leave. He’s brought us too many fantastic memories and will be missed by many. Had the pleasure of seeing bully play in his prime and the molineux used to roar a little bit louder when he scored, it was the same with SEB. I always used to scream ‘yes Blakey’ over and over when scored which must have been annoying for those around me but I bloody loved it.
Adkins record at Scunthorpe, a club with limited resources
Played 199, won 83, drew 44, lost 72, win %age 41.71. Look what he then did at Southampton when he got a shot at a club with a large fan base, good academy and ambitious board.
For me, head coaches/managers are no longer long term appointments and I don’t expect Jackett to do an Adkins but he has been appointed to take on a team who need steadying ready for a season in League 1. He seems a good candidate for this job and should he be successful, there’s no reason why he can’t go on and take us further. If he’s not, he’ll be replaced but there’s almost no chance that our situation will deteriorate further prior to the next appointment. Jackett’s previous work has earned him this opportunity…he now has his shot at a club with the fanbase and academy and a board that is adamant that it is ambitious to return us to the PL.
Job done. Good appointment. Onwards and upwards!
But he has never had a shot at a club with greasel lurking slimely everywhere!
Have to agree with the last two posters onwards & upwards. It seems that the M’s have gone for a sensible choice at last! If only they’d have done this two & a bit seasons back.
But hey I’m pleased we’ve finally got someone. I want to look forward now, Jackett seems like a breath of fresh air being someone I could never in a million years as being the Wolves Manager.
He’s just got to be backed by Board, Fans & Players. Those players who HTW, (above), points the finger at need to get going fast out of the club.
But from everyone a lot of patience is needed. This has been a basket case for a long time now. I have just got the first shoots of optimism back in my veins!
I was just reading a piece on the Liverpool site about Jack Robinson’s loan spell at Wolves. He didn’t say anything deliberately derogative about the club but i thought this remark was very interesting,
“Mind you, when I got back to Melwood in May I soon remembered how hard the training is here – I was blowing after the first session back!”
Obviously a lot harder than at Wolves and could explain a lot of awful second half performances. We can’t expect our players to be as good as premier players but they have no reason not to be as fit. In fact they should make up for their lack of class with extra fitness. Perhaps Jackett should bring in a new fitness coach as a priority.
Thinking about the mechanics oif the appointment and the obvious bs we were being fed.
I am struggling to understand how we had to negotiate compensation with Milwall.
To me it suggests we had already approached him and all was set up, otherwise what possible claim could there be.
If a guy resigns of his own free will, why doe his next employer have to pay any compensation. There is much more gone on in reality than has been said. I suspect the compensation bit was the delay and took M&M totally by surprise.
I am looking positively to the future but again I think this speaks to the lack of competence of our CEO. Any comp would have been purely between Jackett and Milwall not Wolves OK maybe Jackett wanted us to pay it but…………………………….. na it does not sound right to me.
Maybe some special clause between Jackett and milwall but think that one thru it doesnt work either. Jackett could only sign a legal contract covering his obligations, certainly can not obligate any third parties especial a future employer. Something went wrong, he was always the man.
just been reading the sunday express sports pages. I quote – “as English football poured £750 million into a new wembley , the Germans invested in players and coaches . now Germany are tipped for next years world cup…and England face a battle just to get there !” …..sound familiar to anyone supporting the old gold and black?
Not overwhelmed but I’ll give him a chance.
But the main thing that annoys me is the lack of any club vision. When McCarthy was appointed and morgan took over we had a four year plan in place for promotion by which the club could be judged against.
Since then we have had hyperbole but no fixed vision. What are the club judging jackett by? Is it promotion straight away or a more long term restructuring of the team?
I think we can only dream of promotion next season it’s going to take time to rebuild. It all depends on the support, time and hard cash (pence) KJ is given.
I’m sure those” in control ” are licking their wounds over SS and won’t be so eagar to cock it up again and again, besides, running out of Head Coaches – Managers.
Not much of a Gennisis fan btw more of a golden god!!
Good luck Kenny.
Here we go again, not the popular vote and not my first, but as always it’s a fresh start. Forget the prem , lets do the business down here and all get behind the new man. Next few weeks will tell if the other two have had any epiphany on the running as opposed to ruining of the club. We are now at the level at which their miserly spending may actually get some decent fellas in. I pray the push the boat out and get the best that this level has to offer . Scouting is all important
Renewing season ticket today . I was always going to as with these new rules about only being able to trade within the ticket sales / revenue criteria would put us further back than we already are . I think it was Harry Marshall and John Ireland running wolves when I started going .so I was there before the 2 ms and touch wood I will be there after they have gone . I think I may move seats tho as I get wet when it rains in that multi million pound north bank . Don’t remember getting wet with my dad in the cow shed . Same old wolves .constant failure to improve on the past . Oh we’ll … That’s the team I love . Good luck I will hear my support
Should have said …. Good luck kenny , you will hear my support
He is so “special”, he has been given a 12 month rolling contract. Says it all.
Shortism to the extreme.
everything behind the scenes stinks eh alf
I couldn’t help but notice that even Crewe are able to give Steve Davis an 18 month rolling contract…12 months smacks of (yet more) short-termism.
OMG Here we go again with the Moxey “Love fest”. Our special one indeed. I call it the barney song. “I love you, you love me we’re a happy family ……………….. puke”
Any way come on King Kenny you have my full support.
Maybe i am clutching at straws but I notice in his handshake pic with fat arse, that he seems to have a good set of his jaw, and an assertivie demeanour. I am hoping this is true and Moxey has met his match.
Looking at the pictures of Jez unveiling ‘The Special One’ I was struck by the thought that his appointment was due to something that was ‘Lost in translation’:-
Steve Morgan: Jez, you look a state, that suit looks like something out of the seventies or the local Oxfam shop – better get a new jacket.
Jez Moxey: Duh! OK Boss.
I don’t know what he spends his fat pay cheque on (apart from pies of course) but it certainly doesn’t involve a decent tailor!
Did you see dear old Rupert’s though, Doog? Made Moxey’s look like Saville Row.
Just a quick question, does this new set up of director and head coach mean that moxey will stay out of transfer negotiations? Cuz he winds other clubs up with his tight fisted ways.
I am sure you can count on his continued interference.
I noted today his office is at Compton. Frankly I would prefer it was not. he should not be looking over Coaches shoulder everyday.
I’d prefer if it were at the Hawthorns.
why is he still here ?
Is moxey a bit retarded calling jackett the special one? It has heaped more pressure onto jackett before he has started the job. Good luck jackett, you will need it with the muppets surrounding you on and off the field
youd have thought the pair of turkeys would have learnt by now but its business as usual..it destroys any optimism before wed started. who is in charge of pr .. ken dodd ?
Looking forward to the first player moves. It was clear from statements that our academy players are going to get opportunities as i had expected. I hope the right decisions are taken regarding experienced players to help them out. Not sure we have any on the books i would want leading my youngsters. If only Jody was a few years younger.
Just looked at the E&S,kENNY TO BE HERE FOR YEARS TO COME-MOXEY.
What a load of balls,we all know what will happen if he dosen’t work out.
He talks about stability when he gives him a 1 year rolling contract, the only thing thats stable at the mol is his tenure and he makes sure he ‘s covered,i’m sure he’s got something on morgan or else he’d be gone imo.
except a one year rolling contract is very stable, it never runs out?
Louie explain, whats your take on a 1 year rolling contract.?
A rolling contract doesn’t have a specific end date, so with a one year rolling contract it just means that from this day it is a year long, from tomorrow it is a year tomorrow… if that makes sense? My take on it anyway…
I assume it’s so that if a club came in to poach or we wanted to sack him we’d get compensation or only have to pay him off for a years worth wages.
I know it’s quite unclear though and some aren’t sure but pretty sure I read about it somewhere haha!
Well louie,My definition of a rolling contract, is after 1 year if all is well then you get another contract and if not your gone.but not 100% on that.
No, that is just a one year contract with the option of a year extra, like we had (and have taken up) with Griffiths, Batth, Elokobi and Edwards..
Having a quick trawl through google and this sums it up well for me: with a 1 year rolling contract, this means that his contract is always a year from expiration … of of a football forum talking about Paul Lambert (I think).
Interesting Louie, i didn’t know that.
Ok Louie,i’ll go with that,it seems plausable,ta.
I am now 100% behind our new coach but i got to agree johnok.
I would rather fat arse kept his mouth shut, everything he says I feel is bullshit and an insult to our intelligence.
No disrespect to Kenny but if he was the outstanding serious candidate from 75 God help us.
Sorry I just dont by that. What they mean was he suited our needs, and we think we can control him.
Why when the talk is of accedemy players does isaile never get mentioned ?
Moxey said Jackett had emerged from a “rigorous interview process” that whittled an initial list of 75 applications down to a shortlist of seven.”
I’ve just spit milk all over this key board.!!!!!!!!
I wonder if they counted my application amongst the 75?
I expect there were a good number of others like me that wrote just to put a few points across about the running of the club in the last couple of years.
I’m still a bit hurt that I never got a reply.
J ust not sure yet whether he will be
A ble to get us promoted straight away and
C an he be given more freedom to buy players we need to get us out of this Division?
K ey to our success is his ability to keep Moxey in his box.
E veryone at Molineux wants success and we all hope
T hat this appointment comes good.
T he only thing we as fans can do now is support our new Manager Kenny.
Nice one, Steve – says it all in a nutshell! Lots of comment paints KJ as an underwhelming, unambitious appointment, just about good enough to get us out of L1 but no further. Many forget that all the good managers (apart from the actual ‘special one’) start somewhere unflashy, build their experience and success at that level, take the next steps and capitalise (for club and manager) in the longer term. Rodgers, Martinez and Adkins, even Moyes and Ferguson, are manager examples, Swansea, Wigan are club examples. I loved the sardonic wit and no-nonsense approach of Mick, who actually brought us success after years in the wilderness, but I am very happy with a calm, solid, experienced character, who Graham Taylor and many other professionals clearly rate, and who may just be the one to take a big leap forward, out of L1 and beyond…..as long as he’s given a chance, by the M&Ms and by the South Bank. All the best, Kenny.
I see Jacket has offered to invite some fans to the Museum, so he can learn about our past.
Good idea Mr Jacket, you have only been here 2 days and already realise that the fans need a connection to the club and too feel involved, instead of feeling alienated like we have done.
Bet that wasn’t Moxeys idea, the thought of letting a select few in without paying must be giving him nightmares.
Good start Kenny….
Now start getting rid of the dross in the dressing room…
He has hit this issue right on the head. It is a two way thing. BUT it starts with the players.
Wolves fans have been very patient over the past couple of years and I think showed a lot of restraint initially. The rot set in with Johnsons antics with Hennessey and O’Haras attitude.
Hell I remember us giving Doog and Knowles some “encouragement” way back. They didnt sulk they knew we loved um really. No room for petulance or sulking if the fans give you a bit of verbal.
Good start Kenny, fair words about Griffiths to lets hope it is encouraged.
Get on with the clear out and get heart and effort back we will support you and them.
and the boardroom first though…
Speaking as one of the mugs who renewed my season ticket in March, I was delighted to receive an e-mail today signed off by Kenny Jackett. I would have thought it went out to all 9000 season ticket holders. Nice touch from Kenny. He alluded to the fabulous support and the traditions and history of our club. He was appreciative of the fact that despite two relegations and our lowly standing in the 3rd division, there is still a strong fan base here. He said it was up to him and the players to be worthy of our support by creating a vibrant Wolves team. So, yes, a good start Mr Jackett. I appreciated the e-mail. I appreciated the invite to take him around the museum and acquaint him more fully with our fabulous history. Now comes the hard bit. Getting it right on the pitch. Good luck Kenny.
wouldn’t it be funny to see 9000 people trying to squeeze in the museum ..that id like to see.before someone squeals ” only a select few” – I know …its a joke !
Obviously a charm offensive going on for Kenny Jackett. Have to say though that he is coming across as a more likeable and urgent character than i gave him credit for. Dont judge a book by its jacket ?
My prime concerns are still football ones. Listening to talksport the other morning the guest london journalist said it was a great appointment for Wolves he then went on to suggest Pete Clement (foreign based coach) for the vacancy at Millwall as they need to move on from there rudimentary 4-4-2 !
Having said that as a club that has spent 3 of the last 4 seasons in the premier league and is now in a division that is not evenly competative he has a great chance of making a good start.
Pete Clement = Paul Clement.
All the supportive comment and structure to cushion Kenny into the job makes me think back to Solbakken and Saunders. Morgans choices were very quickly left isolated and feeling in the dark. When JM says Morgan is doing what he does best making money in london is he suggesting he is no good for anything else ? Were Morgans choices bad or did he just fail to back them enough against a CEO who thinks he knows better than anyone else ?
People already getting behind Jackett which is good to see. He will need all the support he can get. Perhaps I am a “glass half full person” but several things worry me. Among them are that Moxey appears to have had a big say in the appointment. Once again he is making major footballing decisions – I have no idea why he is doing this when his expertise in this area is at best limited.
We also have all of the old lags still at the club. They are now on their 5th manager in a little over 12 months. They are the reason we are in the third division.
Good luck Kenny. I hope you get the backing your predecessors failed to get.
Errrrrmmmm – half empty!!!!
Jamie O’Hara “I’m a Premier League player”
Not any more mate.
You were too shit to keep us in the prem, and then you were too shit to keep us in the championship, and then you called the fans wankers.
Now you’re a hate figure at a league 1 club on wages so high and with such a poor CV that no-ones ever gonna come in for you.
Bring back lynching; let’s string the bastard up and put him out of our misery.
At last someone on my wavelength! There’s only one Al Capone…..
Very realistic description. If ever a guy played for a contrasct then just disappeared it was this guy. Say what you like about “Old Arry” he is a pretty good judge of footballing character and effort. He clealry didnt see much in OH.
Not sure about lynching but run him out of town.
Bit dissappointed to see our organisation is so busy or lazy that the player listing on web site is not updated. I went to check on things and saw all loanees still included in our listing.
first week in June and no sign of our large wage players moving anywhere soon.
The finances are still unsustainable unless we offload soon. Since no one is coming in for them, they will have to be paid off.
Very early days, and I do not see anyone rushing to pay good money. They are going to make Moxey twist in the wind.
This is the time to really see if he has learned anyhting, whats is required now is sensible balanced decisions not hanging out for the last penny.
Mind you no reason it should impact any modest purchases Kenny needs, but to be honest I rather the suspect the two Ms have convinced themselves we can win this with the youngsters we have. Wondering what will happen with Ward I suspect he will be back as the old mature defensive experience we need (choke).
Personally I would like to see early exodous but there is no reason any other team needs to help us. We dont realy have anything they cant find elsewhere. I think the next three weeks will tell us a lot about the two Ms learning curve.
Jacket might be right guy to get us back to a state where we can have a little pride again but for me the fat man still should go…too long a history if bad judgment. Three strikes and out? Fatty hasn’t hut a ball for 6 years
Sack the fat man for a brighter future
That would have been my choice if I owned the club.
Just read the “I am a premier league player ” article. Absolute side splitter. Can’t stop laughing. Wife has called for paramedics as she thinks I am having a seisure. What a wanker!
I am still laughing, 5 hours after reading jamie ohara thinks he is still a premier league. Fuck me, thats funny. What a deluded person he is. I will curl one out and eat it, if a premier league signs ohara. He is rubbish. He is lazy. He is injury prone. Even if wolves gave him away on a free, no premier club would take him based on his last two season. Get lost ohara. You are not wanted at our great club
I think he has managed to place himself in footballs equivalent of ” no- mans land” I hate to think we are paying the nob so much but reckon it will be worth it if he HAS to play at molineux-id be first in the queue to watch the girly get dogs abuse ! that id love to see
Arry knew what he was doing when he sent him packing to us.
Seen in the Mail yday;
“Jez Moxey unveiled new manager Kenny Jackett this week describing hin as WWFCs own Special One.
Seeing as Jackett is Wolves’ fifth manager in 16 months, the only soecial element of the appointment is the ability of Molineux’s CEO Moxey to blunder from one crisis to the next & yet still keep his job.”
Wotcha Scooped .. I saw that one as well and ripped it out of the mail to frame. That Martyn Samuel can’t be insane to write that sort of stuff in a national daily paper. It’s official then … Moxey is incompetent. .. Why can’t Morgan see that by getting rid of that useless CEO he will seek some more Season tickets.. to people who just won’t entertain WWFC while he’s there….simples
Oh by the way scooped what’s dark, red, and lives in a bottle until the cork comes out..
moxey is morgans plaything … that can be the ONLY reason ..cos he u/s at everything else
KJ was not my first pick, but I have been impressed with some of his comments. Which is more than I could say about Saunders. My favourite so far is:
“There are some very good players at the club and some who need pointing in the right direction. Changes will evolve as we go along.”
Assuming that by “some who need pointing in the right direction” he means the door!
Looks like there will be takers for Doyle, Blake,Sako, Hunt and Berra. This will thin the squad down and make some room for the youngsters. Despite what O’hara says seems to be no interest at all in him or Johnson. What are we going to do with them ? If O’hara is still a premier league player like he claims why doesnt he tear up his contract with Wolves and go back ?
Hunt Berra and Blake have gone.
No takers for doyle
If no one comes in for the over paid, over rated, over inflated egotistical pricks, then we are stuck with them.
My solution would be to keep them away from the first, second or any other team for the duration of their contracts.
That way, no one will see them, any match fitness they might have once had will be long gone, and they will be faced with unemployment once their contracts expire.
They have helped the club become a laughing stock, lets return the favour.
Do unto others springs to mind.
I feel so sorry that Mr O’Hara is embarrassed to be in the Third Div (Yes thats what it is!).
Does he not realize he contributed to it, big time or does he think it was everyone elses fault.
How the Hell does he think we feel ????????????????? But of course he does not care one hoot.
When he wanted a contract we saw some effort after thhat nothing.
I agree with Clive, all rotten apples should be totally isolated from day to day involvement until they leave one way or another.
One rotten apple can do so muvh damage.
Yeah but we’ve got an orchard full of them and I get the feeling that they are going to be hanging around.
Just read some of TimNash’s live blog. What a knob,he is a Moxey agent.
Article told me nothing and was a waste of space.
Now it is the close season, and the rainclouds of summer are here, surely our thoughts should be turning to serious matters, such as where is the friggin’ post card, Thomas??
How anybody can call lard ass a football man is astonishing. He is a finance Director made into a CEO. Irrespective of what kind of MAN it is a CEO is employed and judged on decisions and judgement in ANY other business this clown would have been sacked for gross incompetence.
Judge on results not on the fact his cock ups are honest
Sack the fat man for a brighter future….
Isn’t it a refreshing change to hear some plain, good sense issuing from the Molineux?
I don’t think that ‘Strait’ has put a foot wrong since he crossed the threshold of our beloved club.
(Apart from not chinning the pieman of course).
Emailing season ticket holders, showing genuine interest in the history of the Wolves, trying to win the backing of the supporters – and most of all, talking about the young talent we have here and how he is going to give them a chance.
I would be very interested to see if he could get Leigh Griffiths on the straight and narrow long enough to see if he could turn into a Jock version of Bully.
I am starting to feel very positive about everything.
Maybe its friday talk but me too.
Lets face it we got a CEO and an Owner who know they cannot screw up again.
Jackett saying and doing right things.
Youngsters going to get a chance.
The old gold and black blood is coursing thru my veins, come on Shrewsbury bring it on.
Hi Doog. Yes i was suddenly feeling upbeat again for the same reasons, UNTIL…….Moxey opens his big fat mouth and says don’t expect much transfer activity this summer, financial fair play restrictions, blah, blah blah.
Jackett looks a great character but ultimately Moxey’s his boss and a shit boss can destroy the best of intentions. Let’s face it, if he was really great at his job as he and Morgan think, he’d have been snapped up by one of the top clubs by now. I can only dream.
Spot on Martin for the sake of my health and temper I am in total Moxey denial, as far as possible I plan to ignore. Unfortunately at some point in time Jackett will not be so lucky.
Weeks ago I resigned myself to the fact that the two Ms beileve our youngsters will be sufficient to get us out of Div 3 (Yes that what I am going to call it for reality). Perhaps bolstered by a bit of experience, the only thing of interest is going to be where that experience comes from. If it is the deadbeats who we can not get rid of and are stuck with from before (becasue Moxey wont deal properly with them) then we are in trouble and will poison what young talent we have got.
As you say Morgan says Moxey is the best in the business and is well respected in the game by others ………………… well yes of course he is, they love watching him destroy our great club. Would they employ him…………………..hell no. But if that could please please someone come and make him an offer he can not refuse.
Still I am going to continue with my blinders on and pretend there is no more Moxey. Its the only way!
Morgan paid Sir Jack £10 pounds ? Who got the better deal ?
Thats easy:Steve morgan, and i bet Sir Jack and all wolves supporters wish he hadn’t sold it.
UTW Anyway.
So a slightly uneasy calm exists as we wait for the new season. It looks as though we are going to try and go with our younger players who up to now havent had much of a chance.
Quite pleased about this though it still leaves me a little puzzled why our esteemed leaders were so determined on kenny. If you look at his Millwall record he seems to be one of those managers who keeps things alive by continually bringing players in. Here are the figures (from the Millwall history file).
2012-2013 17 players in (10 loan deals)
2011-2012 20 players in (10 loan deals)
2010-2011 20 players in (11 loan deals)
2009-2010 12 players in ( 6 loan deals)
2008-2009 15 players in ( 5 loan deals)
Anyway thats all in the past he has been appointed and i am sure we are all behind him now. Good luck Kenny.
Very interesting Sherlock – hoping that isn’t the reason he was appointed.
It does fit our DNA though.
Cheap.
Cost millwall a bunch in agents fees etc Watson. Wont get away with that under the fat man.
From the Birmingham Mail: Jez Moxey: “I take some of the blame for double relegation.”
How very f*****g magnanimous of him.
Well Jez … I blame YOU for all of the woes at Wolves.
You are the most incompetent, hide behind others, it’s not me, boastful bullshitter of all f@@king time.
The righteous will catch up with you and piss you off into oblivion.
I’m now getting hacked off with hearing which which big earners we won’t be keeping. Look I’ve got no issues with moving on the dross, Johnson, O’hara… but not repeat NOT Sako. .. he’s one of our best players and I’m sick to death of WWFC doing this. Kevin f@@king Dulwell doesn’t pay for my season ticket he gets in for free. If WWFC are going to do this every year tell me before I renew my ticket and I will tell them to shove it…
I’m totally pissed off by this!!!!
Can someone do an article … “THE MOLINEUX SALES” …and list who they are, where they currently play, what they’ve gone on to achieve and why did we sell them (answer to this will always be ….Coz we needed the money OR we made a big mistake with underestimating their ability.)
A few names to start with.
ROBBIE KEANE, LESCOTT, FLETCHER, JARVIS, CAMARA, ELLIOT BENNETT, SURMAN, SHACKELL.
I see the bookies have got us clear favourites to win the division and we should at a canter.
But a note of caution there are a few smart cookies out there – Phil Parkinson, Karl Robinson, Uwe Rosler, Sean O’driscoll , Dean Smith and the South Banker made good Steve Davis. Not big names and not as smart as Fat Jez and our Kenny …..l hope !
I am really torn as to where I stand with recent developments. Whilst I think that KJ could be the right fit at the right time for us, I also smell a rat as to why it took us so long to appoint him when he resigned only hours after DS’s sacking. As for what’s come out of the club since he’s took over, part of me would like to think that KJ is saying all the right things about giving the kids a chance, wanting to get to know what the club means to the fans, etc. However, the other more realistic part of me sees the great big fat figure of Moxey behind most of it. The spin is in overdrive and is cringeworthy at times. It seems blatant that we are intent on doing everything on the cheap again. I, like everyone on here I’m sure, would love to hand pick the high earning dross that we’d love to be rid of come August, and which slightly more experienced players we would like to keep to support the young lads. However, to the fat man it will simply be a case of sell who he can get the most money for or get rid of who earns the most money. Unfortunately for us, I can’t see us being able to get rid of the dross we would like to. (Johnson and O’Hara being the main two that spring to mind). As much as I am looking forward to seeing what KJ can bring to the table, I fear for us while the fat man is still behind every financial decision being taken.
Yes Carl my thoughts entirely. Not only is Pieman pulling the strings but Dullwell
is now far more vocal.
Think KJ will eventually succumb to the Stale Disease, everything you ask for the answers no.
There is still no plan.
Well Alf of course Dulwell is just another layer of protection for the fatman. It’s more than clear now with the comments coming from Dulwell (getting rid of ALL of the high earners),
that the running of this club is done entirely on a FINANCIAL basis and nothing else. No balance between football and finance JUST 100% FINANCE. Dulwell was meant to be having the football and development input NOT the FINANCIAL ONE!
Of course Dulwell is just Moxey’s lapdog who is just pandering up to Moxey, making the right noises and deflecting the issues away from him.
SICKENING!!
“wheres wally” is like the ventriloquists dummy alf..no more than that .its just that fat blobby things cant hide behind slim people-any shred of credibility the board had has now gone…..end of
Nail on the head for me.
Agreed somethin smells about the deal, why else would we be having to pay Milwall comp. Their employee resigned, supposedly had nothing to do with us. I suspect another cock up.
Yes two Ms are covinced we can win promotion with our youngsters so dont expect much coming in.
Thelwell has to do what he is told, just another lap dog. KJ will find out and have to accept or quit.
Having said all this absolutley nothing we can do. It is so easy to read between the lines with Wolves statements.
Great comment Carl almost a bullseye in my opinion. Afraid i have just got less faith in the appointment but we will see.
My thoughts on our CEO:
T he rather large, brylcream chap running our finances should not
O verlook the fact that the majority of the fans dislike him.
S hould he continually fail to take on board the true feelings of the fans and
S till look at the club purely on finances alone, then he will drive us
E ven further down the football league. He should without doubt concentrate on finances and
R emove himself from making footballing decisions.
Brilliantly predictable story coming out of the club today. We have placed a £4m price tag on Sako and are prepared to play a waiting game to get our price. In other words, we will hold out until the last minute so that none of the money can be re-invested and can then fall into the black hole that is Moxey’s pie fund. Here we go again!
Why have we placed a price tag on him?
If, as has been stated, we are going to use our wonderful youngsters, we do not need to sell to finance the purchase of new players, as they are already at the club.
Also, if we take the THIRD division by storm, surely Sako’s value will increase, and we can then be looking to putting a bigger price tag on him next season.
And, once again, what has happened to the meaning of the word contract? Has he asked to leave?
If not, then keep him to his contract, let him free on those poor unsuspecting THIRD division defenses, and score a shitload of goals, like a certain person did the last time we graced these waters.
If he has asked for a transfer, tell him bollocks, and make him rot with the other overpaid wankers.
Another sensible option for me that other clubs have done in similar positions is to loan out players for a year in exchange for extending their contract for a year. He gets to impress at a higher level for a year, we get his wages paid and possibly a loan fee, his value might go up if he does well in the prem and we lose nothing by his contract running down. Then in a years time we could recall him, sell him or repeat the trick.
Meanwhile, we get no benefit whatsoever of his playing skills.
I thought the whole idea is to get up the divisions as quickly as possible, thereby increasing revenue, thereby making us an even more financially sound club.
Without our best players pulling their weight, we might struggle, and meanwhile another team benefits.
What happens if he gets injured while playing for someone else? No one will want him then, value zero.
No, I disagree, Carl, make the fuckers suffer if they are too “good’ for the third division, just like we have suffered over the past few seasons.
All well and good in theory Clive but an unhappy squad of players is a shit squad of players. They shouldn’t be but this is a bunch of overpaid, sheltered from reality footballers we’re talking about here. Every team that ever gets relegated is faced with the same dilemma when their best players want to leave and their fans will nearly always say ‘make them stay!’ It doesn’t work like that though, you need 100% commitment out of your players and you only have to look at the shit we produced last season to see what happens when you haven’t got that.
Clive,
I hear you (read you) and totally agree in principle. However, if SAKO is wanting out of the club then you are toally right about making him suffer. I have not heard that is the case though (but why would I hear? lol), so if he has not asked to leave then why is the club wanting to sell him? He will, as you so rightly say, perform for us, score sheds loads of goals and help us get back up. He will then feature for us in the Championship where he was last season. This could be a good time for him really, as he has the opportunity to really stand out from the other players. I consider him a quality player and hope he doesn’t go anywhere.
Well put Clive .. This Sako shit is ridiculous .. he’s reported as being on 20k per wk. that’s not going to tip us over the financial fair play threshold.. so financially we dont need to sell him ..
if he doesn’t want to play .. someone, on my behalf, tell him that I dont really want to pay to watch Div 3 shite teams and football BUT I have too … so tell SAKO he isn’t going anywhere.. to shut up blabbin on and get on with the repayment task to the loyal fans of getting out of the shit that he helped to create ..
Another box ticked for me.
‘Strait’ contacted Leigh Griffiths before the recent Scotland game and the response was very positive:-
Just prior to leaving for Zagreb, the striker received a morale-boosting call from new club boss Jackett and says the conversation lifted him for the Group A game.
Griffiths said: “I spoke to the new manager just before I boarded the plane to go out to Croatia.
“He said he was looking forward to working with me and that gave me a lot of confidence about going back there to start pre-season.
“I’m going to work hard to try to get myself into the team.
“I have to concentrate on Wolves because my contract is there. I thought it was great of the manager to call me like that.
Good man!
More spiel in the media about KJ and building long term. I wish Kenny all the best but at Millwall there was nothing organic or ‘grow your own’. He kept refreshing things by bringing in new players on loan deals, free transfers and low fees. Perhaps he will do it differently now but thats a model that i dont think will last long at Wolves.
As much as I find ‘hope’ in the comments of LG, as supported by DOOGooder, it is always with a sense of wariness, which to be honest I’m getting tired of. He would be ideal up front, and I’d like to see us take an early lead in the league, but who knows. I’d prefer Sako to stay too but the reality is he is much better than league 1.
We’re still a long way off the hubbub of the 1 July- and it feels like forever- anyone else feel the same?
Pieman cannot stop his huge ego from coming out again with more pie laced garbage.
On Griffiths….well he will come back and if he scores goals he will be another out of the door.
Think the plan is quite simple how many houses can you build when receiving cash for players?
Where’s the £31.5 million gone loaned to Bridgemere?
For once wouldn’t be great to hear from a player like Sako: “I want to play for Wolves and help us get back to the Premier League”. No chance!! Off to the Greed League he’ll go and surely become an also-ran instead of the Wanderers’ legend he might have been.
Watching England under-21’s…. it’s just like watching the Wolves !
I remember 4th Div Football well, as I was living in Aldershot when they were promoted via the double legger play offs leaving us in the 4th Division. Worst time of my life, until a certain Stephen George Bull MBE came on the scene. Having been there, my thoughts on our current situation is as shown:
C an anyone really believe that we will come straight back up from
O ur horrendous freefall? My personal opinion is that we
M ay be able to do that, but we also need to be aware that this will not be a simple task
E ven with the squad we have now.
B ut, I also believe that we have to reduce our wage bill by disposing of our under
A chievers such as O’Hara and Johnstone. They need to go as they failed us in the
C hampionship and they both think they are better then they actually are and are
K illing the Club.
B efore I start coming over as a happy clapper, I want to say that I believe we had an
U nbelievable time with McArthy as our Boss. He did us proud and got us and kept us
L oyal fans happy. He did however, reach a level where he could take us no further and
L ethargy set in and we fell apart. I now hope that Kenny will nuture our squad, especially our
Y ouths and get them playing well enough to take us back up.
