Sat in the family enclosure amongst like-minded fathers and sons was a lovely new experience for a nomadic Molineux frequenter.
Packed with innocent, virtuous youngsters who unconditionally love the Beautiful Game was a sight that will live long in the memory.
A quite magnificent performance from Swindon Town.
When the children all around me weren’t stumbling over my trailing jaw, they were asking their parents how in God’s name we were winning.
It was as if their waves of attacks were mirroring the impossible amount of times I had to stand and give way for one little boy’s toilet breaks.
He must have had 15 in the space of the second half as I stood, sat, stood and sat as he scuttled past to empty his bladder.
About the same amount of times that our goal was peppered, which may well account for such chronic incontinence in one so young and tender.
Spurs loanees Luongo and Mason were almost literally untouchable in the middle of the park, as the former ran into open space like Jack Wilshere, while the latter just glistened.
Had Mason brought his shooting boots, which were only in evident in his scorching late netbuster, he could have scored four and Swindon six. I’m not joking.
So good were they that they made Crawley Town’s recent supremacy appear marginal, which made the three points all the sweeter.
Amid such assured company, Lee Evans and David Davis – in particular – struggled and we were simply incapable of keeping the ball.
Thankfully for us, our old boy Darren Ward was as leaden footed as ever for the away team and their defence looked shaky as a result.
That we scored three goals in such a one sided game tells its own story.
In another huge boost for Kenny Jackett, it is becoming abundantly clear that Carl Ikeme is the best goalkeeper in the league. He must have stunk of leather, such was the amount of times the gold and black Mitre kept thudding into his body.
Captain Ricketts made a worldly block from Nile Ranger to also keep the Robins at bay in the first half, while Danny Batth did likewise to deny that man Mason in the second.
And one final boost is the strength of our squad, with Siggy and Foley combining for the all important third.
As firepower goes, we do possess our fair share too, with an off colour Griffiths surely bagging a couple on any other given day.
Had the game finished 7-4 to Swindon, few inside Molineux could complain…
…A scoreline that most 6 year-old boys and their fathers in the family enclosure could doubtless relate to.
Thanks Ben
Excellent report
Agree. We got away with murder today as I said in my blog earlier we are notourous for being sluggish after international breaks. hopefully this is down to the 2 week break because if it’s not we are going to have another tough season we looked lethargic were sloppy in both defence and midfield. Apart from Our keeper who was superb,Goldborn who got forward and put in some great crosses, Batth who put the other 2 in defence to shame. Doyle put a shift in (read into that what you will) and did not seen to think he had Grifftih up front with him Doyle kept on drifting into the middle and out to the wings but as far as supporting Griffths he was neither her or there. I don’t rate Doyle and never have he runs and run does nice lay offs but there’s no end product, his gaols to games ratio is that of a center back, he try’s but for me he’s not prolific enough I mean if he carnt get 15 to 20 gaols in this League well putting a shift in doesn’t cut it. I hope Jackett hasn’t fell under Doyles spell as Stale and Saunders did. We have Siggy and other young stickers who in my option who are hungerer and more prolific Cassidy for one he nows this League 12 goals with Tranmere last term I hope he doesn’t disapir of the radar. Sako played well but as the bloke said next to me come November at some far flung ground when it’s freezing cold and pissing down you won’t see he in the warm September sunshine he played well making some good runs and got some good tackles in but I could not help but agree with his assessment of Sako having seen it myself last season. If they play like that Tuesday Walsall will rip us apart forget the Paint game they’ve won today and more than ever will be up for it Tuesday and if we haven’t shrugged of this game we won’t be so lucky. P.S Kenny drop Doyle all smoke and no fire, Siggy Griffith or Cassidy up front !
I cannot agree with you on Doyle, he has been superb this season, well in all of the home games at least (I’ve not been away yet). He had two & at times three defenders marking him everytime he had the ball. Swindon clearly recognised who Wolves’s danger man was/is.
Yesterday he was involved in 2 of the three goals, he scored the 2nd but his build up play gave Griffiths the ball to cross for him to score.
The third goal was Doyle again bringing the ball out from defence through midfield putting Siggy through to cross for Foley to score. I think it instructive that it was Foley on the right & not Ismail who met the cross.
Crwaley Town; it was Doyle who crossed beautifully for Siggy to score our second. He also took a battering yesterday, and on more than one occasion was scythed down in full flow.
To me he’s our fittest & most accomplished player, we’d’ve have been lost without him yesterday, although Ikeme, Batth, Golbourne, Sako and Ricketts all played well.
It was a great game to be at, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but we were `outfootballed`, and Ryan Mason & Luongo were quality. KJ needs to get to Spurs’s training academy ground at his earliest opportunity, if that’s the quality they have in reserve.
I hope it was just a blip, but I’m afraid Evans, Davis & McDonald were not at the races yesterday. I’d hope that Foley comes in to give us some ballast in midfield, and Siggy plays out on the right, with of course my favourite & in my opinion our best player up front with Griffiths.
Yep, totally agree mate.
Football is about defending as well as attacking, so in that respect the back four and goalkeeper deserve credit. Batth in particular made some fantastic blocks, as did Ricketts.
But yes, Swindon were the far superior side and deserved a point at the very least.
Kenny Jackett got it wrong for me today, opting for a weird shape that had Sako dropping deep and playing inside and left Lee Evans stranded on the opposite flank, completely out of position.
Davis and McDonald were just overwhelmed and played through at will. McDonald at least showed the requisite quality on the ball though, whereas Davis just seemed hell bent on surrendering possession every time he had it.
In fact, Davis really got on my wick today. He pranced around at half pace as if he was bossing the midfield and didn’t need to strain himself. I was glad KJ was watching the same game I was and duly hauled him off.
Swindon have put together a very good side indeed, with those Spurs youngsters running the show in midfield. They luxuriated in the vast Molineux pitch and made us look embarrassingly average.
But, as you say Benny, all this only makes the victory more valuable.
Swindon, like Crawley will easily beat a lot of teams this season and not every side that comes to Molineux will have the technical capability to overrun us as these two have.
It’s tremendously satisfying to have the points on the board, but we need to buck our ideas up if we’re to carry on being successful.
The last two home performances were reminiscent of the start of last season, in that we got results we probably didn’t deserve. And as we all know, luck will always run out.
Playing badly but still winning? Ahh what the hell – I’ll take that! 5 wins on the bounce is nothing to be sniffed at and though we don’t deserve 5 wins on the bounce (this game and Crawley) isn’t it the sign of a good team that it can play badly and still win?
Ikeme sounded brilliant and so did their second goal to be fair – can’t wait to see it! And Doyle deserved his goal too!
Thanks Ben pretty much how it came across on the radio. Thought Ikeme was excellent first half of last season. Not playing well and winning is fine, now and again, but cant see us keeping it up every week !
Stats from BBC
Wolves
11 attemtpst, 6 on target
Swindon
20 attempts, 9 on target
I’m not going to gamble on a Wolves victory next time when we play against Swindon away from home, that’s for sure. Golbourne’s goal was a lucky one :=)
me 2 mate was also in family enclosure with my lad , first home match since ipswich game last year.and was very refreshing , and impressed with the game , we rode our luck , but stood firm and got point which is main thing , swindon bossed game and those spursloanees in middle of park showed there class , davis for me was poor again constntly giving ball away , and ding silly passes in dangerous areas,he needs to be careful that he dosent become the new karl henry, ikeme bath were rocks ,but overall a very good win
To say Davis struggled is kind – he had a shocker. Sad to say it but Ismail again looked lightweight. Siggy’s quality and unselfish play again showed and he needs to be given more than just 10 minutes. But the most important thing is another three points, even if we were below par.
Super post Ben .. i don’t quite agree with you on what the score could / should have been … I got it to 10-4 to Swindon….. Ikemes’ saves , numerous last ditch deflections, rank bad finishing, goaline scrambles and hitting the post. BUT
The records will show wolves won. As has already been said Davis was absolutely shocking .. one occasion passing the ball out for a corner to Swindon (at least Ikeme didnt have to juggle with it). Stiil I went home happy and saw my mates Scooped and Big Mark too.
Happy days when were third .. looking forward to tues.
What was the griffiths sulking kicking bottle all a bout ? Any one got any ideas ?
Hopefully it was just frustration at getting pulled. I wouldn’t want to have players that were happy at being substituted.
Good article and thank you for the phrase you’ve given to my beloved STFC. We have let 17 players go this summer as part of significant budget cuts… From around £4.5 m to £3m and brought in a mixture of free’s and loans apart from luongo who we spent £400k on which s massive for us, a one or two others…..
Game could easily have finished 5 or 6 each….. But Swindon should have got at least a point. I just hope we take the same form into our massive derby with Bristol then Chelsea in th cup 3 dys later…. Wish us luck
Great ground by the way……
Your Swindon team are by far the best opposition we have faced this season and truly deserved a result today . Good support too . Did nt like feeling tense again reminded me of last season. . Swindon …Good team good support . Lucky we won
Hi Rob and i for one do wish you luck, at least in all your games except the reverse fixture.
You were indeed magnificent today, or at least we made you look so. And your support was excellent.
I don’t ever recall seeing a game where the victorious team were so completely out played. We won because…
Our first goal was a cross which was deflected perfectly and unsaveably into the net.
Our goalkeeper was superb
Our 2 centre backs, and particularly the immense Danny Batth, were magnificent.
Swindon missed chance after chance.
We were bloody lucky.
Our back four were fine overall.
Up front, Doyle and Griffiths both posed threats in their own very different way on the odd occasion we actually had the ball.
But the midfield was a disaster. Davis made one calamitous mistake after another and the previously excellent Evans looked bemused and bewildered wide on the right, almost totally useless. Sako was Sako a curates egg, somewhat addled by his lagely central midfield position.
Siggy came on and gave us more pace and height up front and powered down the left to provide a wonderful cross for Foley to sprint 50 yards and convert with aplomb.
As i got to my feet to leave the guy in front turned to his mate and said ‘That was daylight robbery’.
And as i walked back to my hotel i heard another Wolves fan say ‘We were chasing shadows’
They were both exactly right. But somehow we still won.
Evans totally wasted wide. He’s a central midfielder, a playmaker, same as McDonald and its difficult to play both in a 442 set up – if you intend using one central midfielder to protect the back four.
Played poorly and still won but . . . . . . . . far from convincing.
Absolutely spot on summary ben . We were so poor it beggars belief .. a few of our young kids will have to grow up very fast ! The only consolation is we got away with it today ….if Swindon had a Griffiths …then your scoreline fear would have been reality . Still ,, we did survive and win…
and those kids will go home with a wolves win under their belts
My 10 year old lad was in tears, he could not believe how a team that had 6 shots and were toatlly outplayed for 70 minutes could win….whereas swindon were quick acurate and incisive in midfield wolves were only effectual when they bypassed the midfield. Swap our middle 4 for yours…high championship. Having said that the swindon subs made effective differences. The missing link was the absence of byrne sent off at franchise fc last week. Ajose was not as effective on the cover and his absence definately contributed to your first 2 goals, having said that am pleased to have been at a thoroughly decent game and venue, both teams should be proud of the input and entertaiment value acheived.
The result is the result and thankfully in our favour but this game is all about our Manager and what he will do about being out played again (ie Crawley) at home.
Even more so how would we fare with this team in the Championship ?
Kenny Jacket needs to look ahead ….I fear that we are 5 players eventually short in a rebuild..I just hope that he is mercenary, sells players and demands more money that will stabilise us back into football status again..
Is this a second message to him?
I would like to see Jamie o hara given a an other chance to play for wolves
The young players should get to play as much as possible. It is important for them to gain as much experience as possible. But I would at least name O’Hara among the substitutes, because he has qualities, when he’s in form, that would strengthen our team. We don’t have anything to lose on playing him, if we want to get rid of him, on the contrary.
The midfield was a disaster from the first minute playing a diamond shape. They were completely in disarray. Sako was at times the defensive midfielder. He should be kept as far up the pitch as possible. This is the 2nd game (crawley was first) i have seen where we have been on the verge of losing due to our centre midfield weakness. Davis works hard to win the ball and then gives it away with such ease. Jackett made a very good decision taking him off, as the crowd were just about to turn on davis. Jackett needs to settle on his midfield formation and players asap or his constant tinkering is going to cost us dear. Was impressed with golbourne energy. Ikeme, batth and ricketts played very well. Very lucky 3 points, but a win is a win
We won but we should have lost.
We were so lucky it beggars belief.
And so on and so on ad nauseum.
How many times over the past few seasons have we been on the receiving end of results like this?
Personally, I don’t give a flying shit how badly we supposedly played, the opposition obviously played worse coz we won!!
Lads and Lassies, get over yourselves!
Stop being “typical” Wolves fans for a minute and enjoy the roses.
We won.
That is all that matters.
If Swindon, or Crawley, or my auntie Norma cant score more than us, they are gonna lose.
Bad luck and hard luck don’t enter into it.
Play all the pretty football you want, but if we score more you are history.
I got that buzz at work when I saw the final score.
Nothing lifts my day like a Wolves win.
Bollocks to anything else, we won, we are still unbeaten, and can go top on Tuesday.
Far better to be looking down at the rest of the league than up.
And, the shit still haven’t won a game.
No, I am a happy camper today.
Tomorrow will take care of itself.
Spot on Clive… very well said mate
Aww. And I thought you’d given up swearing. That previous post of yours was actually readable.
More seriously I can’t agree with you Clive. I’d rather see Wolves playing good football than winning, the former means that the latter is a more frequent occurrence. We were extremely lucky to win yesterday, but nevertheless we’re attempting to play much better football than we did under Saunders.
Our current league position is a misrepresentation of our form. I’m enthused though, the old guard has gone, the youngsters are good to watch, Ricketts an excellent signing as captain and McDonald and Golbourne look promising. Batth, as I’ve mentioned before is a shoe-in for our player of the year and Ikeme was brilliant yesterday.
We have to give the youngsters a break, both Davis and Evans had a tough time yesterday. Davis will make mistakes but we need to cut him some slack, that’s a big job he is stepping up to, if fans start jeering him then he’ll just disappear and not want the ball. He’ll know better than anybody that his passing was disastrous yesterday and the coaching staff and he will be working on it.
Personally I’m more concerned with us not having another winger. Evans was indeed totally lost out wide (indeed Davis’ discomfort may be somewhat down to not playing three central midfield players) and Sigurdarson is completely wasted there. Why was Boukari loaned out to Sochaux? We need back up for Ismail who I don’t think is ready yet for continuous first team appearances. And we shouldn’t worry about Evans losing his place to McDonald, he’ll get chances through suspensions, injuries or loss of form.
This winger issue will be exacerbated if Sako goes in the January window.
Possibly we should play lopsided with only one winger Sako constantly swapping flanks, I think we need the McDonald, Davis, Evans triangle in the middle to develop the one-touch interchange play that Swindon swamped us with. We need to retain possession and with only two men in there and Sako (who doesn’t do retaining possession) out wide that’s impossible.
Doyle I thought had a poor game yesterday. He needed to be chasing hard to harrass the Swindon back four and deep midfield when they were in possession. But too often I saw him stop running when the ball was lost. Swindon had far too much time to pick the play. I thought Doyle worked much harder in the Crawley game. If Doyle doesn’t put the sweat in, I’d pick Siguardarson instead.
At the 80 minute mark I’d just started to believe that the magic force field we’d erected in front of our goal was going to ensure the 2-0 win that I’d predicted.
You would rather see Wolves play good football than winning????
What complete and utter bollocks.
I am now convinced you are either a shit fan or greasel.
You are one of those miserable, reverse snobs, always bitching and moaning and complaining about everything, Mr. Negative of the century, and who will get on his soapbox and crow about doom and gloom, even when none exists.
There are only two words that spring to mind with regards to your appalling negative bullshit, and they are Fuck and Off…………….to sandwell.
Your sort really makes me want to puke.
Agreed Clive. We could play brilliant footy, lose, and get relegated. We could play crap, and somehow win. Isn’t that better than playing crap and lose like we did the last two seasons
Oh dear, Clive. You’re just not up to engaging are you? I mean it’s your choice to post like an idiot, but it’s boring, stupid and juvenile. Why not grow up?
And don’t misunderstand me, I was happy that Wolves beat Swindon, even though Swindon were the better team. I want Wolves to win; I was punching the air and cheering when the final whistle went.
At the same time I want to see Wolves playing excellent, beautiful football. I applaud Kenny Jackett – even though he wasn’t my preference, it looks as though I was wrong – because our approach this season has been one based on passing and movement. But we have an inexperienced squad that is on a learning curve and as yet we have been lucky, our points tally has exceeded what we might have expected from the performances.
Saunders reign was a disaster because there was no observable tactics or style whatsoever. Whoever was responsible for that appointment deserves a lot of criticism. It got us relegated.
Solbakken’s tenure was a failure, even though I’d support entirely his approach and the kind of footballing team he was turning us into to, because the players, deliberately and unforgivably in my opinion, decided to under perform and consequently undermined his visionary revolution entirely.
What I do not want to see is Wolves give up on passing because the crowd start booing David Davis when his passing goes astray and putting pressure on the defenders to welly-it upfield when they are attempting to play with composure under pressure deep in our own half.
Our most encouraging and pleasing passages of play are when the back four are linking and inter-passing with the midfield trio of McDonald, Davis and Evans. They are not the most exciting passages of play, but the ability of the defence and midfield to win and retain possession for long periods – whether we attack at all – is indicative of a side that has confidence, assurance and control. And it is encouraging and developing that aspect of the team that will mean that when we get a promotion we continue to flourish at a higher level.
Holding possession in midfield and at the back means you can pick and choose the best moments to launch an attack: by pinpoint diagonal balls beyond the defence when dummy runs have created space, balls funnelled down the channel or slung out to the opposite wing when wide players find room, or (my favourite) when two or three short slick wall-passes can scythe through the defence.
Route one – pump it in the box and throw bodies in – can get you goals, but it isn’t football it’s fightball and it’s increasingly less effective as you play at increasingly higher levels. Even in the Third Division it’s not an approach that will get you promotion over a season. We have already seen that Crawley and Swindon are footballing sides. Lump it in is fine for the last five minutes when you are losing or as an occasional surprise tactic.
Far from moaning and bitching I am bouyant and optimistic about the Wolves at the moment, but not because of our points tally – that is a false indication – but because of our decent style of play and the fact that Jackett has ousted the players that undermined Solbakken and treacherously put their own satisfaction above the interests of the club and consequently risked the club’s very existence by instigating an easily avoidable and unnecessary relegation from the Championship.
And Clive, do yourself a favour, just pack in the rude words.
What a load of bollox!! Pferdepferde was right about you after all!
Fine. Take a hike with pferdepferde, then.
I meant to put lol at the end. What a difference that makes in understanding or should I say identifying sarcasm. Your comments are totally factual and I agree wholeheartedly with what you say. I love this blog, it makes me smile when I read some responses. By the way, did you notice pferdepferde has commented on here – he can’t stay away after all!! Probably because Chelski are losing and playing bad now!!
My apologies then Steve. Always a problem with blogs. It’s difficult spotting tongue-in-cheek comments.
I’m sure other people have different opinions to mine, and articulate posts that state a case in a reasoned, and perhaps passionate way, are fine. We are all Wolves fans, but we are sure to hold differing views about football, the club, the board, the manager, the players, the tactics and individual matches. Indeed that is what makes the blog an interesting place.
And Clive has his opinion which is fine, but his preference to utilise abusive and obscene language does not take precedence over my wish to discourse in civil manner.
I have never met Clive, but I like what he says. He comes over as a true fan who just happens to swear a lot. That, unlike you, does not bother me (I was a squaddie for 34 years after all).
I also relate to and respect your comments, and they are stated without the use of foul language. I have no problem either way.
What I do like is the way we all are who we are. We should not change, and neither should we expect others to change. Clive should be Clive, You should be you and we all should support the Wolves and always try to remember to end our posts with: FOWB. I will bet you were one of the few who were chuffed that that was stopped being played!! Sad really, as it’s only a swear word, and never hurt anyone.
Anyway, thanks for your apology even though it was not needed.
UTW/FOWB
Alarm bells should be ringing for Kenny. Completely outplayed twice in a row at home.
Need to buy 2-3 players in the transfer window – replacement for Davis, a new CB to partner Batth, as well as a proper winger (left or right, doesnt matter as neither Sako or Ismail are up to it).
One thing that was excellent yesterday was our CH pairing, both Batth AND Ricketts. And although overrun by a very good footballing side don’t forget these are very young lads still learning their trade. And, oh yeah, 5 wins and a draw out of 6 while they’re learning.
Super blog, my thoughts exactly. We have been saying every week now that we have to sort out our defense. There will come the day when lady luck finally says enough is enough and we will see that after all we are not that invincible….What happens if Ikeme and Baath are both out injured? They are the two players who are keeping our scoreline safe! We are being super lucky and one day that will end !
What’s wrong with the defence????
The midfield was clearly the problem yesterday. The defence, who were overworked and unguarded, did an excellent job. If Ikeme is out, McCarey plays, if Batth gets injured Stearman plays, Foley, Elokobi and Ebanks-Landell are all available to fill in.
Ricketts is an excellent partner for Batth and Golbourne looked promising.
The problem is definitely not with the defence.
Was stuck at a family dinner in B’ham so was trying to check scores on my iphone under the table! I did say they could drop me off at Molyneux on the way but it got ignored! Happy to get the 3 points but wish we would stop leaking goals in the last 10 mins! As the next 2 matches are local derbies another 2 wins will go down nicely. UTW
Great blog and yet another testament to how misleading raw statistics can be.
I work Saturdays, albeit at a desk so I can follow, in silence, the game on the BBC Sport website. According to the BBC’s ‘live feed’, for much of the game it seemed that Wolves had the ball with the final stats having possession 51%:49% in Wolves’ favour. Swindon’s 23 shots on goal with 9 on target isn’t that much better than the Wolves’ success rate of 11 shots with 6 on target.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23999488
Keep up the good work – I love reading the blog!
Harry
You can follow in silence? You’re a much better man than me mate!
he reads the text describing the game on the bbc website
“You’re a much better man than me mate!” . . . . . . it’s been said of me many times, Telford, many times! ;0)
I can only agree with the previous comments, Swindon looked a far better side, mid-field and defence needs sorting urgently, Davis was shocking, we will never get a luckier 3 points.
It was not long ago that previous managers assured us “the performances are there… it wont be long before the results follow..” they never did. Now we sit with a reverse scenario … How times change.
We will take the three points all day long but luck is not something we should pin our promotion hopes on.
No noisey celebrations as the crowd left Molineux yesterday, almost an embarrassed silence as most realised that we had won but we shall be unlikely to continue our uunbeaten run if we play like that again. Quite an amazing number of unforced errors and some obvious confusion between players at times. Not sure about the current marking system when Swindon’s wide players were left on their own at times.
Is it the make-up of a Wolves supporter that makes so many unsatisfied with a win or is it that can we see that Wolves are League one standard currently and will need to improve significantly in order to climb back up through the leagues.
Cannot comment without mentioning RJ who immediately got the armband with the Owls yesterday and in his first match came up against his old foe Wayne, in goal for Yeovil. No outstanding contribution as he is unnamed in the match report but Jones seems to think he will “provide mature professionalism both on and off the pitch”, I’m sure many on this blog would disagree.
Not a great performance yesterday, but the 3 points were the vital. How many times have we been the better team and come away with nothing over the years?
Well played Swindon though, if they continue to play & create chances like that then they will be well up there come the end of the season.
A quick note to Ledbury Lupus… It was Reda Johnson who played & captained the owls yesterday, not our piss head roger 😉
I think you will find that RJ is another RJ & not our ex-drunk!
RJ for SW is Reda Johnson – our RJ didn’t even make the subs bench.
Can people please stop calling for the return of Jamie Bigbollocks. We haven’t lost a game yet and have arguably the most complete midfielder in this division in MacDonald so how he is supposed to fit in god only knows. People have such short memories, he has been absolute dogshit for about 2 years.
If this had been a boxing match the referee would have had to stop the fight to prevent serious injury. It was so one sided. However, a lucky punch of a goal from Golbourne and a neat combination from Griffiths and Doyle meant that the tactic of allowing Swindon to have as much of the ball as possible in the hope they would tire themselves out continued into the second half. The diamond formation in midfield was far from flawless and easily by passed and out passed by Swindon. It took KJ too long to come up with plan B, presumably concerned by Davis’s attempt to recreate his Bristol city goal he was subbed. Davis has plenty of midfield swagger he just needs to work at his passing and tackling and not giving the ball away. Unfortunately his replacement Ismail kept running directly into the fullback rather than trying to go around him. Ikeme was magnificent defying Newtonian physics. Credit to the Southbank wags who sang you’re not fit to referee as he limped off. A farcical ending to a funny old game. If Mark Cooper bought 14 million lottery tickets on the long way home he still wouldn’t have a winner.
I hope you are all grateful I left and took my bad luck with me to Mourinho.
You’ve won every game since.
Pferdepferde!!!!!!
Naff off …….. you’ll jinx it you numpty!!
Another three points, But as others have suggested being out played at home two games on the bounce is disappointing. That said we’ve still had a good start and there’s every reason to be optimistic that we will be there or there about’s come May.
Swindon are a good outfit and the strike from the lad at the end (I forget his name), Is one of the best goals seen down the Molineux in some time, I think we need to realise that we’re a cup final for the vast majority of teams in this division and their all going to raise their game in the hope they can take three points from the Golden Palace.
5 wins from 6 is a great start, We have a massive game on Tuesday night against Walsall who are coming off the back of a great result at Crewe they’ll be up for it and we’ll need to play a lot better than we did yesterday to take three points.
We actually play like this most weeks….before you think we only played that way because we came to Wolves yesterday….only Shrewsbury away did we let ourselves down a bit… it’s early days for us too yet, a new team the understanding is beginning to gel.
Most of the team are under 23 and understandably will have a blip or two throughout the season..the good thing is our fans are now looking forward to games and despite the defeat yesterday we came away witnessing another superb display of pass and move progressive football…as to Spurs loanees, there were three Mason, Pritchard and Hall who played centre back 4, they and the rest of the team are comfortable on the ball and we pass through teams. Despite the opportunities missed yesterday this won’t happen every week..we put 5 past Crewe and also missed a last minute penalty…
Some nice comments from Wolves fans on the way we played, appreciate that, it means a lot when it comes from the opposition.
Most of us will always be honest, mind you it would be hard to state otherwise mate, as all those who watched the game will know. How we got the three points is beyond me, but …. we did. I am sure you will be up there at the end of the season if you continue to play like that though.
Got to agree with the comment regarding BBC live feed statisitics. Possession wise thet showed possession in our favor at 60:40 only closing the gap right at the end. I assumed we were controlling totally, but the live comments did not suggest this.
They also referred to a first goal as a tap in!
Just seen the goals a win is a win but I have to say the Swindon defence was pretty dire for our second two goals with both Doyle and Foley totally un marked.
A wins a win so no moaning their but KJ does have to read whats going on. Personally our defending for there first was pretty sloppy. Ikeme was brilliant game ball to him.
Love the winning habit though, last year we would have lost that game. There is no doubt winning is a habit and heleps you find ways to win.
I want to see us in our rightful place in the Premier but while we have the two MMs i will settle for winning in Div 3
How many times did we play well in the prem, deserve to win only to cock it up? Now we are getting the luck and the 3 points. I will take that thank you 🙂
Onwards and upwards !
I was thinking the same we really have not had much fall our way the last 3/4 years. Yep I will take it when it comes.
Mind you winners find ways to win and losers find ways to lose. keep that winning belief and spirit going Kenny.
Would just like us to try to find at least a Mid Field General and Leader in the loan market.
The two Spurs midfielders were streets more mobile, athletic and pacier than Davis and Evans, who is far too slow to play wide right. Enjoying the points and the result is tempered by the fact we were outplayed in midfield.
The manager needs to find a solution somehow, maybe with the loan market. I`d like to say well done to our new left back, not only scored a stuffy goal, he obviously has been well coached, and has the ability and pace to be a really good aquisition.
We`ll score lots of goals in this division, and our defence /keeper were excellent. Some work to do on our midfield though Mr Jackett.
Clive … I love your posts ., they re Black Country and they re funny , I always read them but I can’t understand the attack on the the Kevin porter post unless its a historical thing . I make it pretty accurate , apart from playing with one winger ( stupid idea ) but he was obviously at the game and saw what was happening . We do need more width as inexperience is starting to show when the central midfield is under pressure . No doubt about it . Our fantastic new hero griffiths had a tantrum when he was subbed yesterday I think it was because Swindon found an easy way of stopping him getting on the ball .
The bloke is a prick, simple.
You takes your choice, I suppose.
Foul-mouthed ranter – who incidentally London Wolves is far from representative of Black Country folk, I know them to be far more sophisticated, intelligent, erudite, articulate, humorous, self-aware, polite and friendly than our red-necked Texan throwback – or courteous, engaged and analytical, albeit opinionated, poster.
Make up yer mind. Which am I?
That’s the point Clive. You decide which you are.
It’s great that you still follow the club in the USA and are passionate about them. But all that offensive effing and blinding, using an obscenity instead of writing Albion and so on is really old hat. It’s the twenty-first century now and you are supposed to be an adult.
Get with the reality. It’s us against commercialism and marketing these days, not us against Albion. Sky TV, Murdoch, the Premier League, Scudamore and media coverage are all the enemies of football clubs and of football itself.
The Man Utds and Chelseas have been destroyed already. Their clubs transformed from proper competing Football Clubs, that might slide up and down the leagues, into mere “Brand Names for Global Marketing Opportunities” that can’t be allowed to fail their business plan.
Pick a vowel.
G* F*ck y**rs*lf.
Here’s an idea:
Why don’t both of you agree to not reply to each other’s comments?
Clive: You’ve been around here long enough to know that calling another commenter a prick isn’t going to fly. That’s really the only rule I lay down. Direct your scorn towards Sandwell and overpaid executives please.
Kevin: Bad language isn’t forbidden on this forum (unless it’s directed at a fellow blogger). As I say, just ignore Clive’s comments if they offend you so.
3 points 3 goals,no losses.Played crap but who cares .UTW
I have a question for the loyal fans who are able to attend games.
What is the spirit at the Mol, it seems we are well behind the team and KJ.
19,000 is a great attendence for League 1 but I somehow did not think we would lose quite so many fans once we were winning.
