Too many mistakes.
Sa’s gaffe was the headline, but all the goals were preventable.
Ruben gave the ball away and then needlessly fouled Gundogan for the second. Even Haaland’s well-worked opener could have been cut off had Nunes not been sucked towards the ball allowing De Bruyne a free cross.
Small details but you can’t afford to get them wrong.
City probably would have continued creating chances for as long as they needed to, but this became too easy for my liking.
Wolves defended well up until the first goal and prevented it from becoming a rout after the game was gone, but there isn’t much else for Loptegui to take from the wreckage, other than the fact we don’t have to play City again this season.
Even as we broke forward in the second half and occupied promising positions the inability to test Ederson made for painful viewing.
Sarabia looked confident and direct, which is exactly what we need, but skied one opportunity and saw another blocked by Ake (possibly with his arm).
We really need the Spaniard to bring his Sporting Lisbon numbers to this team because 12 goals in 20 games is still the statistic keeping me up at night.
I just wonder what is being done on the training pitch to address this crippling deficiency? City had clear patterns of play in the final third and were rewarded for that with the opening goal.
In contrast, Wolves just pass and pass and pass, hoping the solution will become obvious and it never does.
Even from set pieces, the desire to put the ball into good areas and attack with aggression isn’t there. Collins and Kilman don’t look like they’d connect with anything if they played for a decade.
I would put Dawson straight in for his heading ability in both boxes alone, but I also believe we’re overplaying in defence and inviting the press. An experienced player will know better when to play and when to simply defend.
With this game out of the way and many of the teams around us dropping points in winnable fixtures, things could be worse.
But we can rightly expect better than this when we emerge for that Liverpool game in a fortnight.
The penalty against Ruben was questionable. A makeup call because the ref felt he owed City one from the first half.
Why,John? He probably didn’t give that one because he knew that he’d made a big mistake when Adama was fouled at the start of city’s move?
It didn’t look to me like Neves touched him or am I just watching through gold tinted glasses?
I could not see any real contact either and the player was chasing the ball away from the goal.
Contrast this to Nunes having his boot and shin pad tipped off against Liverpool whilst facing goal and about to make ball contact. It’s beyond parody.
Lopetegui has improved us and whether he will improve us enough sufficiently to keep us up, we will find out over the next few weeks. For me, it is all still very much in the balance, as despite what many may argue, this is a poor wolves team. Technically, there is talent, but that is not enough alone. The goal keeper has a mistake in him, despite good shot stopping ability and command of his box. The defence has a mistake in it in every game, sometimes we get way with them sometimes we don’t. The midfield, despite Neves’ efforts is lacking in creativity and again, at the risk of angering some on here, I see nothing that tells me Nunes justifies being a club record signing- watch back his delivery into the box on 2 separate occasions in the last 10 minutes when we we were in good attacking positions. He simply hasn’t mastered the pace of the PL and we can’t keep carrying him in games, he has to start hurting the opposition otherwise we need to give someone else a run. As ever, our forward line is completely impotent, starved of service but with little conviction when something is created. Let’s hope JL can find the right balance but as we have as yet failed to sign an attacking talent that gives me any belief we are sorting this long term problem anytime soon, the odds are stacked against us. Let’s keep the faith but I think this is going to go to the wire and with the games counting down the margin for error gets smaller and smaller.
Nick Pope always saved Burnley up to 10 points a season making crucial saves at crucial times. He is now doing exactly the same for Newcastle.
Much as I like Sa, he is now beginning to cost us points instead of saving them . At any level you need a shot stopper who is reliable every time and Sa despite making some crucial saves does have a seemingly in-built mistake in him.
Particularly with the ball at his feet. That certainly needs to be worked on if Lopetegui insists on playing out from the back.
Looked like the signings are somewhat lightweight.
Too easily pushed off the ball.
Another toughie game next
West Ham made the shrewdness signing by bringing in Ings.
We are playing some lovely football without a goalscorer
Lovely football? I don’t call risk free cross field passing Lovely football. Inciciveness is needed. Haaland could have been playing for us today and people would still be saying that we need a goalscorer.
The test will be when we meet the middle and lower order teams.
Yeah ,there were some glimpses of lovely football Hind Sight.
Only some but they were there for all to see. Very lightweight otherwise.
Portuguese and Spanish players will take a long time to bed in as it’s so very different from what they are used to.
Ings would have been an Instant success imho
Agree Shed, Ings would have hit the ground running. I can’t believe Villa sold him, he’s averaged 2 goals every 3 games with the minutes he’s played. Good stats for a squad player.
Listening to Liam Keen and Nathan Judah on E&S filled me with a sense of dread.
And in one sentence above Thomas sums up our last 3 seasons –
quote “In contrast, Wolves just pass and pass and pass, hoping the solution will become obvious and it never does”.
We huff and we puff and don’t look like remotely likely to find a goal from open play, 12 goals scored from 20 tells a clear story..At least we used to be able to defend until Lage dismantled our miserly defence by offloading it’s backbone for a song.
Can’t see we have done much in this window so far to put the wrongs to right with only
Cunha likely to make much real difference if he can get some serious service from our 30 something new signings to date. And looking forward with Neves, Nunes, Traore, the ageing Jiminez and Moutinho plus the useless Guedes all likely to be gone by next August it looks almost suspiciously as if a Championship relaunch is likely to be in a contingency plan already in place; if that’s the case can’t see Lopetegui hanging around for a promotion bid. Watch out for a Dyche type successor.
Something seriously not right in WV1.
The great Fosun revolution looks very much to have stalled catastrophically headed by a CEO who knows nothing about football. Oh for the days of Dalrymple, Nuno and even Thelwell.
Very sad Wolves supporter tonight trying to hang on to the old adage “hope springs eternal” but without some dramatic developments in the next week or so it’s hard to be optimistic.
Prove me wrong before the window closes please Jeff (and Hobbs whoever you are). Because if you don’t you really couldn’t have made a much bigger ba!!s of it if you were trying.
As I said last week – this passing to each other and back again is getting us nowhere and quite honestly painful to watch..
It’s like watching paint dry and just not the Wolves way – I remember a couple of seasons ago Adama was flying down the wing attacking the likes of City, Liverpool and Utd in gung ho fasion and getting results and the neutrals plaudits !!
This patient nonsense has to stop – hope JL takes note – because he cerainly hasn’t learnt anything from our dismal timid display against Liverpool !
Is dosen’t help Sa is in another World at the moment – which is a big worry ..
p.s I’d love to know who the shooting coach is as Wolves as just can’t seem to keep the ball down or on target and this has been going on for the couple of years now !!
Come on lads – buck up – we have some fantastic players at the Club..so all is not lost – just need to buckle down and show more aggresion in all areas of the team !
Don’t you think that Dawson will make a difference to our error strewn defence,PJB? The ods are he will make a major difference .
Lemina may be a journeyman midfielder but I can see Sarabia making a big impact too.
Maybe also further business will be done.
Lopetegui knows his stuff and with him at the helm I’m pretty confident that we’ll survive . Given the backing to the manager this window I can’t see any evidence of the Championship contingency plan you refer to.
I’m gonna look at the big picture. When J Lo took over we had 10 points 15 games. If someone had said to me after the Man City game we would be on 17 points outside the bottom 3 I would have bitten your hand off. Not many teams go to Citeh and do much. Once that first goal went in you knew it was only going one way. Not an excuse. Just the way it is. J Lo has now got 2 clear weeks on the training ground. We clearly need to do more work around our offensive play. 18 games to go. 6 wins needed. We still have a great chance of staying up. 7 points from 5 under J Lo including Man U Man C. Another 7 from the next 5 will do me just fine.
Good way to look at it Cheeseburger. If somehow we can find a way to get the ball in the opposition`s net, we might just achieve a great escape.
Hi everyone,
I don’t post on here anymore due to the negative comments and down arrows, why, I don’t know, but there is something that I have been asked to let you know. I received a message earlier from Emma who is Steve Biles daughter, Steve is better known as Brompton who has won the prediction league on more than one occasion. It breaks my heart to tell you that Steve died this morning which was totally unexpected by his family. Me and Sue met up with Steve at home and away games and we thought the world of him. We lost a football match today but to put it in perspective, we lost a big part of the Wolves family. RIP Brompton.
That is very sad news . I did not know him personally but he always a seemed a fair and reasoned contributor to this blog who clearly had a good circle of wolves friends on here. May he rest in peace.
Wow. What a shock. Like others I only knew him via the blog. Always thought he had good observations about our team and seemed like a true gent.
My condolences to his family. Puts things into perspective.
Devastated to hear this news. Steve – affectionately and rather mischievously referred to as ‘Chalkie’ by the much missed Clive (from Houston) – was a really, really top bloke. Spent many an hour with him at games all over the country. Great company, great laugh, genuine bloke, kind and caring and compassionate and always had time for you. My deepest condolences to his wife and family.
Rest in Peace in that Molineux in the sky my friend.
Awful news. CFH. Brompton. Two massive figures on the Blog. My heart goes out to the family. OODCL.
Any team, apart from Arsenal possibly, would have lost to City today and with Haaland banging them in for them as he is, we were never going to come away with a single point.
It is just going to have to be a case of taking each game as it comes.
Ok, so we no longer have the team we came up with, but we now have as much chance of staying up as five or six other teams and considering how bad we were at the start of the season and had a late start in grabbing some points, I’ll take that.
Especially with J Lo at the helm, as we still look better than we did then.
Have faith…
COYW
Don’t really give a toss about the match at the moment.
The news about Steve Biles which we heard today puts everything else into a very sad perspective.
He was a fine man and a great friend, made through the blog. We would meet up with him at Dougie’s (West Parkian) place before every home match and stroll to the Golden Palace together.
I spoke to him on the ‘phone only last week and he was in hospital awaiting a scan for suspected gallstones.
I can’t really write anymore.
Rest easy Steve.
Say hello to Clive.
Steve, The Champ!
Well no football can upstage life, so sad to hear this news from Newark as arriving home from City.
Another truly nice bloke lost to the Wolves family.
Rest in peace, say hello to Clive from us all.
StuWolf
Great picture Stu, rest in peace Steve and thanks for inviting me to the Bloggers Bash all those years ago. Top man.
I am confused. We pay 40 million for a striker who never gets to start and who, in any event, although very creative seems unlikely to net a bundle of goals. So we continue to play the same front three who failed so miserably in the weeks before the arrival of our new coach. Why do we expect different results — particularly when the service form midfield is almost non existent ? How do we expect to score ? In my view Traore and Hwang could well play for the rest for of the season without scoring.
Then there is the continuing absurdity of trying to play out from the back — which in ordinary bloke`s terms means making a series of ridiculous sideways and backwards passing amongst defenders who`s ball playing abilities are, to say the least , very modest. We not only give the opposition time to reorganize to defend when finally we decide to move laboriously forward, but we are endlessly inviting a very costly mistake. That we now have a mistake prone keeper simply adds to our woes.
We have a mountain to climb, our main hope being that there are others in the basement who appear equally inept.
Totally agree Mike – I’m not even sure Cunha is match fit – he certainly dosen’t possess a lightening turn of foot in the pen area, which we need right now to actually score a goal – how about the lad playing for Coventry – a decent mobile CF to get us out of jail – who actually scores goals with a touch of agression – a snip at £15 million – the ways Wolves are spending..
The Fosun’s must be pulling their hair out !
As has been mentioned elsewhere,Haaland could have been playing for us and wouldn’t have scored. If we don’t actually create chances no-one will score so it doesn’t matter how many so called centre forwards/strikers are acquired.
I’m also confused Mike.
Already having a group of midfielders who collectively fulfil every midfield function known to man we are busily adding to it’s numbers rather rather than prioritising a CB to replace those summarily despatched by Lage (notably Coady and Saiss) and a no 9 style striker to fill the longstanding vacuum created by the Jiminez incident.
Does anyone at Molineux, including Lopetegui so far, actually know what they’re doing?
At the moment not sure they do.
Sheer madness!
Since when was Dawson anything other than a central defender?Lots of successful teams also play without your so called no. 9 type striker. They are not the be all and end all
Didn’t know he’d actually signed so stand corrected. Step in the right direction but no better than what we already had and it’s not going to do anything about the real crisis at the other end of the field.
No better? I give up.
Says it all Hind Sight. Every game Collins makes at least one major error and we try and address the problem and the negatively doesn’t change. Frank Munro wasn’t available.
Ah,Frank! Now there was a class act!
Hey Ped Ant. That may well be the case for some teams, but they have the personnel to make the system work. We dont.,
We`ve e been playing without a natural goal scorer ever since Raoul was seriously injured. — and that`s now well over two years ago. The object of this beautiful game is to stick the ball into the net. We`ve managed to do that just 12 times in the first half of the season. Pathetic, by whatever standard you measure it
The way we play now — including under the new coach — ignores the need to get the ball into the box to someone who actually knows how to score. The plain fact is that as of now we have no one. We never look as if we even just MIGHT score from open play. Period.
Unless this fundamental need to get a genuine striker in place is acknowledged and acted on PDQ we`ll be playing in the Championship next season. Forget about signing any more midfielders, and just concentrate on this one essential issue, and we might just have a chance of survival.
Don’t completely disagree, Mike, but you are missing my point to some extent which, basically, is that unless the quality of the final ball is improved it doesn’t matter how many so called strikers we have or how good they are. The reason why Haaland is scoring so many is that the majority of his goals are the result of precision play by the likes of De Bruyne, Silva, Gundogan etc.
Just getting the ball into the box isn’t going to improve matters.
Much ad I concur that the attacking play must be improved, its at the heart of defence where the main problem lies. If we don’t concede, we are always in the game but let in one,two or more and we face an uphill battle. Hopefully, Dawson will help steady the ship.
Mike, re playing out from the back. I wrote recently following the last Liverpool game, that our boys do not currently have the skill and confidence to play this way.
It can be an effective tactic with appropriate skill and confidence.
An alternative is to vary the play and to play accurate long balls. However , to do that effective forwards are needed who can consistently hold up play.
Throughout the whole 90 minutes , even when 3:0 up, City pressed hard and our defenders and midfielders could not settle. I suppose we must remember that we were playing one of the best teams in the world with a proper CF.
On the bright side , current form over the recent games Clearly shows Wolves have attained a better points haul than the other five teams at the foot of The League.
I remain optimistic that we have enough to avoid relegation .
Totally gutted. Another good man gone too soon. And still too close after Clive’s passing. RIP Steve.
Our thoughts and condolences go to Jill, Emma, Andrew and family.
Dougie and Barbara xxx
Why the hell did we have to wait till were 3 down before we started to play,if we had started like the last 30 mins ,whether we lost or not at least we could have given them a game instead of seating back waiting for them to score were to timid
Okay they are technically better but it still 11 against 11 (plus the referee and var against us normally) and we at least created chances and the ball was out of our half a lot more ,for 60mins we were press back ,making sideways and backwards passing leading to the error which Sa generously provided them with, the 2nd goal
The penalty look a bit dubious as well, thought Neves didn’t seem to touch him ,would we have been given it up the other end ,no chance
So let’s up the tempo and play for 90 mins and not seat back till we go behind and there’s a chance we might win a few more extra games than we expect and to start with taking 3 vital points against cheatpool
If we don’t sign a striker we’re down, simple as that. I hope to be proved wrong, but not sure we’re even going to try and bring one in. Goals win games and we don’t have any in us.
We scored 17 in 19 games last season and were in the top 7.
Hey Cheeseburger. That may be the case, but then we had a proper defense. Now, ,thanks to Bruno we`ve sacrificed that asset, so we can`t score at one end, and let goals in by the bucket load load at the other.
The solution? Let`s ignore the lack of goals and the crap[ defense and sign some more fancy midfielders, who`ll make us look really pretty as we go from side to side [ or backwards ] in our own half of the field.
Digging their own relegation grave with the unforced errors game after game.
Well…I don’t think anyone was expecting anything other than a battering from city. But as many others have said it’s the way you lose to them that counts…even Everton got a draw and look where they are now!
I don’t know what has happened to Sa lately?? Sarkic is never going to be a replacement and we either need someone there to give him the push he needs to keep that number 1 slot and stop resting on his laurels and making stupid mistakes or move him on and get someone else in!
Best wishes Brompton’s family and friends. Sad news. Hung up his crown for good now.
Can’t be too brutal on the team. Most of us knew it was a long shot. We’ll have a better chance against Liverpool……if we can sort out the dreaded ‘playing out from the back’ conundrum. It worked if it was 2 or 3 passes and then hoof it up to a lurking Traore. The only trouble with that being the rest of WWFC couldn’t keep up and he crossed into an empty box, or worse still, took a shot. He really should be hitting the barn door by now.
Other discernible tactics have escaped me. We’ve lost a bit of the J-Lo bounce with a couple of mediocre performances post Cheatgate.
Fk it the snooker’s on.
1 lv & COYW
What’s a massive concern is we have spent well over £120 million and we still don’t have anyone who can put the ball in the back of the net its criminal…….we have so many player of the same ilk but no stand out goal scorer ……..Podonce is our top scorer and he’s was already here.
Why have we not gone and got a recognised goal scorer the lad from Brasil £43 million and he looks no better the Hwang…….shocking recruitment.
And that’s what’s going to send us down poor recruitment….it’s ironic because we’ve spent a small fortune . And I’m still not convinced these are the managers choice.
Brilliant analysis Cheslyn The truth is that no one in a position of any authority seems to have a clue as to what they`re doing or why.
Presently it seems we `re just adding at great cost to the absolute mediocrity that we already have. We`ve got a bunch of less than average wide men and midfielders, who we are intent of adding to, yet no one who know how to score. This is farcical.
Massive over reaction as usual. The bloke has just seen us get 2 wins in 4. We have got tanked by City. Not unexpected. I would have taken minimum 6 points from 5 games. We got 7. Still in there with a good chance of avoiding relegation. The miserable negativity is not going to do anyone any good. Lighten up. Get behind the team. Wolves ay we. Some of us.
Hear hear CoD.
City scored one good goal against us and Podence could have had two on another day.
The new additions will gel and Dawson will provide the experience at back. No point being euphoric after a win and suicidal after a loss- this is the Premier League and almost every team is investing heavily to avoid the drop. Let’s hope JLo has the nous to keep us up, either way enjoy the good times and laugh at the bad.
If you read my blog properly you would see that the point is not about City beating us we have the worse goals for record shared with Everton …….and we have spent more than £120 million ……goals win games that where we should have concentrated on getting a goal scorer in instead of half a dozen midfielders none of which are better than the other or what we had
They just can’t see the wood for the trees Mike. Downvoted for telling it as it is not how they would like to think it is! In the real world we would be making “midfielders” redundant not recruiting more.
No worries. I also made the point we need to work on offensive play. We have strikers. We just don’t create anything for them to feed off. See Hwang world cup. Son feeds a beautiful ball through the middle. Hwang runs on and slots in to the corner. We could have Mpabbe up front at the moment and it wouldn’t make any difference.
Mbappe obviously!
It’s not you who can’t see the wood for the trees ,cheese.
Agree with Cheeseburger we don’t create enough chances but even so 8 goals in 20 PL games is a pathetic return; over the last 2 seasons none of our so called front men (Hwang, Jiminez, Willian Jose, Silva, Guedes and Neto (last albeit due to injuries).
In fact our attack has been pretty pathetic since the days when Jota, Jininez and Traore were in full flight. The facts speak for themselves.
Football takes a back seat having heard that Brompton Wolf has passed away this morning…
How unfair does life get eh..
Steve was always a great ‘Wolves Blogger’ from the outset and helped to put on what was , arguably, one of the best ever Bloggers Ballbashes enjoyed by so many of us …
Thanks mate, rest peacefully, and Lilian and myself send our sincerest condolences to Jill and his family.. xxx
Wrong team selection today, our fate will be decided , when we play team’s around us, lot off dead wood to be shipped out, tim flowers in goal for sa, rip in Brompton wolf, my condolences to the family , God bless all my bloggers, wolves aie we.
Did not know Brompton but I share the sadness of everyone else on here as we shall no longer seen his nom de plume.
Too early to judge JL but I would concur that playing out from the back may not be the best policy against City. We may as well play the long ball and hope for the best if we’re gonna give the ball away anyway. (That’s just “knee jerk”…. I probably don’t mean it)
Either way, I don’t count games against City, Newcastle and god willing PSG.
I mean what’s the point…
Didn’t think we’d win this one, but was hoping for a better performance.
It’s early days for the new guys to settle in and now we have a break to actually do some work on the training pitch. We could do with some warm weather training again.
We still not have addressed the leader of the line problem up to now, but let’s hope we soon will.
We now have to find a settled balanced line up; patience is required from us but, at the same time, we need a couple of good results soon to keep the fans on side.
Liverpool next!!! We’re owed a win or two against them.
Lastly, commiserations to all friends and relatives of Brompton, which following Clive, is another terrible loss…
Awful news about Brompton.
I had the pleasure of meeting him away at Barnsley the last time I was over, we ended up standing next to each other at the game and had a good chat, proper wolves man .
I believe he had gotten a bit fed up with the blog recently with all the repetitive negative comments ( along with quite a lot of people who don’t bother posting anymore)but I thought he was just having a break .
What a shame that we won’t read his positive posts anymore.
I remember him sticking about a grand on wolves to win the championship before a competitive ball was kicked!
Rest easy Steve, it was a pleasure and condolences to his family.
Utw
Ps- we will beat the scousers
Was Podence injured? Baffling to wait till 65 minutes to bring on the only player we have that can score
Familiar ground. JL got this one wrong, lets hope it’s just a bump in the road. Our season won’t be defined by results against the top six and results of teams in and around us were kind to us so no biggy. The comedy of errors that keeps repeating itself as we try to play it out the back is ridiculous, surely this will get addressed now, Sa is the main offender but he’s also the main victim of this strategy. Without Coady to find a raking pass to a player in space in the oppositions half we have to fanny around looking for Neves to get the ball upfield quickly, if this doesn’t happen we look shaky. Teams will do their homework and see this. We are next to feckless whenever the opposition has a high press.
Breaking news – some people are moaning after losing to one of the best teams in Europe.
Anyway, update on the post World Cup mini league.
There are currently teams worse off than us it would seem.
Post World Cup mini league:
(1) Forest P5 8pts (0 gd)
(2) Wolves P5 7pts (-2 gd)
(3) West Ham P5 4pts (-3 gd)
(4) Leeds P5 3pts (-3 gd)
(5) Southampton P5 3pts (-4 gd)
(6) Everton P5 1pt (-7 gd)
(7) Leicester P5 1pt (-7 gd)
(8) Bournemouth P5 1pt (-9gd)
Agree with the general point being made here. We didn’t show up yesterday but it was a free hit anyway, we weren’t expected to get a result so let’s focus on the games where can.
That’s not to say the nature of the surrender wasn’t slightly alarming, nor the brain fart from Sa. But it’s not these games where we’ll ultimately be judged.
Liverpool, in current form, could offer us a chance of a result. Then it’s onto two crucial fixtures which could define our season.
Right on Newt.
Having done the same exercise I agreed with you after the Liverpool game.
Loppy has certainly injected some vim and vigour into our play and we should not allow our spirits to be dimmed by playing an excellent team like City.
I too am confident, as you are, that with half a season to go, we will avoid relegation on current form sine the World Cup.
With regards to playing out from the back. Can’t they try to play out on the ground but if they are having trouble, just have a wingback launch it up field?
Sometimes you will get it out on the ground but other times they can kick it down the side for Adama or Pablo.
With regards to Jose getting his pass intercepted, I don’t know why more passes on the pitch aren’t intercepted. The players assume the opponent won’t try and pass it two feet to the side of them many times.
Apparently a new rule was introduced just before Wolves v Liverpool replay that if a tackled forwards shoe is removed by the defender whilst tackling from behind then it will be defined as not a foul especially if carried out on a Wolves attacker
Should a Wolves defender clip the foot of anyone inside the penalty box then it shall be deemed a penalty
Further modifications to the rules will be forwarded in due course as and when the referees association deem it necessary
Hey we didn’t deserve anything out of the game because WE made too many mistakes even before we kicked off
Let’s learn from our mistakes come out fighting and for gods sake score some bloody goals
Funny how those clamouring for the signing of Danny Ings have gone quiet.
Most of the rest of us knew what would happen and can you imagine the slating that the hierarchy would have got if Wolves had signed him and he’d injured on debut!
By the way, the proven striker that many are after doesn’t exist in the current window. If you don’t believe that then name someone and there will be reasons why that person won’t come, principally they are already at a top club. Anyone else would be a game just like Cunha.
gamble!
As one who DIDN’T clamour for Ings neither should we be overrun by inertia on this issue; we have to find a genuine goalscorer before the Jan. window closes; failure to do so is likely to see us back in The Championship innless Lopetegui can find a way to up the all round collective scoring ability of of our battalions of midfielders, wingers, false 9’s etc.
Name someone who would fit the bill can you PJB? It’s fine to say what we need but does that player actually exist in this transfer window. I say that the answer is a resounding no.
Who exactly are the battalions you are referring to by the way? I don’t think we’ve got a single false No 9 whatever that is and we’ve hardly got a plethora of midfielders either.
I look forward to seeing your list of names.
We went quiet when he got sold to West Ham Pedant, it was a bit pointless shouting about it after that. His knock is minor so he still may be integral to WHam’s survival which could in turn be a deciding factor in our relegation scrap. Personally i’d rather have him in our squad than in another relegation threatened side. He scores goals at this level and we don’t and 15m is peanuts these days.
I predicted before that he’d soon be injured, Happy, and he was. I didn’t have to be brain of Britain to get that right and it’s a pound to a penny that if and when he does return yet another injury will be just around the corner. Some players are just not robust enough for the demands of the Premier league unfortunately.
As well as gyokeres already linked with wolves, another player we should definitely talk to is Ben Brereton Díaz. 23 years old, 6”1” , born and raised in Stoke, Chilean international with 4 goals in 17 games, 38 goals in 104 championship appearances over the last 2.5 seasons. Contract expires in the summer and not agreed extension so looking for move. He fits the profile for a striker we should be looking for far more than some of the “talent” we have acquired in the squad under mendes’ direction and for a lot less money.
I’ve seen Brereton Diaz play a lot and my assessment is that he’s nowhere near good enough Sutton. Haven’t really seen Gyokores so can’t comment on him but he’d obviously be a big risk.
I can’t say I’ve seen either of them live very much only gyokeres in a pre season friendly v wolves a couple of years ago. Brereton’s track record indicates he has something but if you have seen him and say otherwise that’s fair enough. On the flip side, I can’t say I’ve seen a lot from some of our signings that justifies the spend so I guess these things are all subjective in many respects
Maybe Sa is getting worse because he trains with our strike force who can’t hit a barn door?
Beginning to wonder how many of our latest Mendes recruits actually want to be here and how many may share the clearly reluctant recruit Guedes’s dim view of our club. By my reckoning we currently have TWELVE Gestitute players on our books (including loaned out Silva and Guedes); how much of an impact could this be having on our morale. Interesting to note that JL so far has preferred to do his shopping elsewhere even as a Mendes man himself.
Not sure where you’ve obtained Guedes’ views but everyone I’ve discussed him with has an extremely dim view of his on pitch attitude which stinks. If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen and he certainly did. We want players with heart and desire to go hand in hand with ability.
Rather think you’re agreeing with me or trying to disagree for the sake of it. Suggest you read my posts which clearly indicate his attitude stink(s).
Wasn’t trying to disagree just for sake of it. Not into such pointless stuff.
He probably was one of the top scorers as far as points/90 minutes goes.
If you came to play for your former coach and all the team badmouthed him in the locker room and weren’t trying because they didn’t like him, how would you feel about staying?
Y A W N…
Talking of former coaches, it would seem that J – Lo’s reputation has been a big factor in recent recruitment, similarly the presence of current Iberian international players. How else can we explain the batch of arrivals? The dynamic city of Wolverhampton? A team in a perilous league position with the nickname “Wolvesnil”?
What if this strategy doesn’t work? Do we become a yo-yo club with a revolving door of personnel like Watford?
OK, no more doom and gloom, J-Lo is a genius, he will spark a revival, we will start scoring goals, we will rise to mid table and start dreaming of European nights maybe in 2024. Some heroes will leave but more will emerge, the wonder kid from Porto will be replaced by the wonder kid from Flamengo. Bring it on!
Off topic .
I live in Boston and am looking for tickets to Wolves-Chelsea on 4/8. Anyone have any insight? Extra tix?
I am really very pissed off. So a couple of red cards easily today for LiVARpool. No VAR. So these players are now available against us on Saturday. It won’t be long before there is a riot down the Mol. You can see it all happening again Saturday. But what a joy. Wrexham v Sheff U. Brilliant game. No VAR. Just the ref and lino making the calls. Fuck VAR off now.
Karma as LiVARpool get defeated in the FA CUP in the sixth minute of extra time.
How on earth does Robinho studded challenge on the Achilles, without anywhere being able to make ball contact , not a RED card..
you compare that to Collins’ red v Man city and either referees can’t sing from the same hymn sheet or there’s a real big 6 problem…
Likewise Robertson’s ankle buster challenge a bit later on …
Shocking .. both incidents.. and like you suggest cheesey WWFC should be playing LiVARpool next week without those two ..
So, folks, what do you think about the transfer window?Best in a long time if not ever, I’d say, given our predicament. Acquisitions have been made with thought and deal with the here and now but with an eye also to the future.
You can be sure that the newcomers would have been hesitant with the thought of relegation.. but oh no ..
Six (on the surface) good signings which in my book means .. we put out our strongest side and have a good bench to call upon ..
All Hail Julen …
(and Fosun ..)
I’m not sure we could have hoped for more.
I know some people think we needed to sign a striker but I believe our shortage of goals stems from poor supply into the box rather than the lack of a finisher.
I’m sure PJB will be along shortly to lament the lack of investment though.
Whoever you are.
If you’re so sure about so much why don’t you have the courage to post under your usual title, anonymity = cowardice. Of course we needed another bloody striker. And how many holding midfielders, wingers, false 9’s etc. do you want – we’re overrun with them.
Good signings, yes. But a well balanced approach we’ll see.
Don’t rise to the bait, PJB.
You are both right, of course, and we can but hope that Lopetegui’s additions together with his coaching reputation will prevail and we retain our PL status.
Most teams at the bottom have invested heavily in this window in an effort to stay up, paying what appears to be inflated fees for players without experience in the PL. It smacks of desperation – I am a long way from being convinced by Cunha and still believe that Costa will start scoring when he gets a better service.
