Is this rock bottom?
If it isn’t there are some difficult times ahead.

Soft in both boxes and weak in the middle, something has to change if Wolves are going to avoid the ultimate disaster.
Leicester were open and unsure themselves early doors, but as we’ve come to expect, nobody in a gold shirt could make them pay.
Zero goals from 21 shots to their 4 goals from 5 shots is why they don’t need to fret about relegation and we should be scared stiff.
Barnes and Maddison attack with a clear picture in their mind of what they want to do while our equivalents continue to manipulate the ball hoping that the answer becomes apparent.
And when chances arrive, they can’t finish.
We’re talking profligacy on a biblical level with the average now less than a goal every other game. Whatever happens at the other end, we don’t stand a chance if this doesn’t improve.
But, at the same time, scoring becomes harder if you’re giving the game away at the back and Wolves didn’t defend well enough to be competitive.
It was a fine hit by Tielemans – the type of thunderbolt that has a habit of going against you in the tough times – but the other three were preventable.
There isn’t enough aggression, physicality or running in either the midfield or the full-back positions to protect our centre-halves.
Moutinho’s regular presence is becoming harder to justify and Jonny turned in what might have been his worst performance in a Wolves shirt.
At Palace, the team had more athleticism with Boubacar and Semedo covering the ground and Steve Davis may lament leaving those players out when reflecting on where this went so badly wrong.
Scott Sellars has been pinpointed as the culprit for the team’s deficiencies and if the buck truly stops with him on some of the strategic errors that have clearly been made then maybe that’s fair.
If nothing else, perhaps the anger pulsating from the South Bank will serve to make Jeff reconsider the decision to defer the appointment of a new coach.
After this meek embarrassment, January feels a long way off.
Anyone slating Steve Davis or James Collins for today’s travesty are wider of the mark than our misfiring attack. It is nothing to do with our interim coach and everything to do with the men at the top of the club.
There is a fundamental issue that, until resolved, will leave us hamstrung and struggling to survive in the Premier League this season.
And whilst there are many examples of poor performances, particular today, that oversimplifies the overriding problem at our beloved club.
Please watch the Romain Saiss video. He loves Wolves and the staff and coaches. He still watches all the games. However he is scathing of the board.
It is said that good leaders surround themselves with great people. Where are Laurie Dalrymple, Kevin Thelwell, Conor Coady, Nuno, Bruno, John Ruddy, Romain Saiss ? Was £35m for the popular Fabio a good investment ?
We have sent our leaders packing, recruited talent but an imbalanced squad, failed to address the striker situation decisively and sacked a coach with no plan B.
I will always support Wolves, through thick and thin. Fosun have been good for our club but the Senior Management structure MUST change. And our over reliance on Mendes must stop.
Two completely different coaches turned down the chance to manage a talented squad in the world’s best league. Why ?
UTW
If you want a blue print of how NOT to run a business, then look no further than WWFC. Words such as farcical and pathetic don`t come close. The level of mismanagement is such that it cannot be adequately described.
It seems that salvation can be secured only of Mr Goa steps in to protect his Fosun investment, and for a start immediately revamps the Boardroom. Mr Shi is utterly incompetent, only too happy to hide behind the clueless Sellars when things go wrong as a consequence of his endless bungling. Think about it. What half decent coach would want to join a club in such a shambles !! Is it any wonder that Beale turned us down ?
The let`s go back a few years to the Morgan era. M.M was sacked without having any replacement secured, before Morgan handed the reigns to Clipboard Connor. He never won a single match and we were relegated. Fast forward and see history repeating itself. Shi sacks Bruno without having first secured a quality replacement and appoints Steve Davis, a man of considerable honor and commitment, but who has zero experience at this level. Why should we now expect any different outcome ?
Time for you to step in Mr Goa, or your investment is going down the pan.
Fosun Chairman Guo Guangchang will not be happy to see Wolves languishing at the bottom of the Premier League, that’s for sure. You would expect him to be asking our Chairman for an explanation, and more to the point, a plan of how he will resolve the underperformance and prevent a costly relegation.
Sellars will be sacked or demoted before Shi. If Wolves don’t improve you would expect Jeff Shi to be relinquished of his responsibilities.
Whatever confidence I had for the team to pull it out the bag and finish mid table has now gone in a puff of smoke.
I’m so shocked at the result that words just fail me… for now.
I’ve calmed down a bit now after that wake up call…
There’s some good stuff talked about here with solutions to the problems we are experiencing. We in the UK suffer from bad management in many walks of life (not to mention Parliament!) and like WWFC’s problems, it all originates right at the top. So, Mr Guangchang, please sort it! ?
It’s worrying when the teams expected to struggle, like Fulham or Bournemouth, are riding a lot higher than we are. Fulham are brilliant.
I feel sad that we never seem to be able to consolidate ourselves as a consistent Premiership team, always bobbing up and down like a cork on water.
Why can’t Arsenal just go down for a change!!??
And never come up again!?
I seriously think that we have been a bit unlucky on the goal front, especially on Sunday, a Leicester player always seemed to get in the way!
Yeah… I know. That’s what they’re paid to do. Pity we didn’t do the same…
Anyway, let’s get behind the lads and hope our luck will change at Brentford.
It’s all we can do until management pulls it’s finger out.

Saiss interview link above.
There should be two people in the firing line – Shi and Sellars if things don’t improve quickly – and it’s Sellars that will be demoted or sacked first.
Very enlightning interview, although not wholly surprising. Pretty much what a lot of us suspected.
For those of us who don’t have a spare 1hr 30mins to watch it, what did Saiss say?
I didn’t see it all but gathered his main points. Yes he celebrated the good times he had there. Middlesboro away, Cardiff etc.
But he said they, the board, fucking disrespected him only offering him a one year contract so he left.
The 2 points that make the most sense in terms of the current malaise are that we’ve lost the presence of big characters and leaders in the dressing room. Coady & Ruddy were the main ones he stated, but you’d also include him.
Also Lage as manager didn’t possess any power, so like Nuno towards the end I guess pretty neutered by Fosun.
He also suggested that as the reason Lopetegui & Beale turned Fosun down. The majority of the players are Mendes clients so that again ties the Manager’s hands behind his back in getting in good non Mendes clients.
He did say something about inexperienced players coming in and adjusting, the purchase of Silva chimes with this. He was never going to be able to fill Raul’s boots. That’s more my interpretation but most of us know Fosun have not adequately covered our forward line positions.
My conclusion is that the Mendes/Fosun model is broken at the moment. Yes Fosun have bought us magic times, but they’ve not evolved, they need to move on from sole reliance on Uncle Jorge.
And Saiss also made the point that Wolves don’t have a Sporting Director. In the Premiership you have to have one he seemed to be saying.
I liked him he is very straightforward, not particularly angry or disrespectful to Wolves or Fosun. He just honestly articulated what most of us would know anyway. But well done Talking Wolves for a good truthful and real insight into Wolves and its current woes.
Many thanks, very interesting
Brilliant summary Allen !
Absolutely honest and worrying interview and it’s what lots of people have been saying or speculating about for ages!
Thanks for the link. I’ve just watched this. Very revealing interview. Scandalous how he was treated and sounds like the same happened to John ruddy and a few others.
I said we were fucked …, and some idiot put a dislike may be now they will realise.
To many years of Jeff thinking he had it sussed , With his pal Mendez supplying managers and layers alike….. no Jeff George said confidently I can supply you with what you need…… at a price I bet Jeff never thought that would be … ReLegation.
This mess lays solely at FOSUN and Jeff door why…!
Didn’t back Nino.
Employed Bruno and half heartedly
Rely to much on uncle George for players and managers.
Another shit show today but who can blame the players who have no direction and a interim boss who is used to managing 17 year olds.
Jeff this is your doing lack of foresight and over reliance on one man due to frugal approach to other markets.
Now fuck off back to China.
Don’t take it personally, the happy clappers on here are frankly idiots who wouldn’t know what a good football team looks like if they were playing in their own back garden. Sick and tired of seeing the label doom mongers used for those contributions that actually see this mess for what it is. The best thing that can happen to wolves is that fosun sell us. Shi is a complete incompetent and has surrounded himself with mendes and Sellars as his main confidentes. The deal for Coady is tantamount to corporate negligence and as I’ve said on here for months and months we are now reaping what we sow. What has been going on at our club for the last 2 plus years is a slow descent into the mire of where we came from c 5 years ago.trouble as Shi himself said pre season the fans who go to the stadium week in week out aren’t really that important. Well, he is about to find out how important we are.
Agree totally…. Sutton. But still the dislikes keep coming,
Some people just cannot handle the truth… or admit when they are WRONG…. que…. The DISLIKES
Jeff’s and Fosuns whole approach from day one was about profit above the team sell on value that’s all they have ever been interested and I’ve said it from the beginning and yeah….. this is Paul AD67 .
But I was just labelled as a moaner …… doom monger..,, we’ll may be one or two on here will finally see through the bull shit Fosun and Jeff have been peddling.
you are completely and utterly a moaner – So just accept it.
I will put my hands up and say, I have let emotions get the better of me at this club – but when you have played any sort of standard of football – watching this shit does get difficult.
If you put your hand in a sweets jar, Blindfolded – you will still pick out a sweet.
Saying something is going a certain way, until it finally does, and then expecting to be able to say “I told you all so!!…” shows the lowest amount of intelligence a person could have.
I would love you to pin-point one single thing you have ever said that holds and weight and has any evidence?
Ok we are in a bad spot now? Prove how anything you have EVER said has now led to this?
Owners – Invested? We have bought the players.
Nuno made our worse finish since we hired him, they tried to change it.
Worked for one season – now there is an issue?
But how has this got anything to do with Jeff?
Also – No need for racism
You are just an uneducated fully grown mans who only satisfaction is shit talking something you’re supposed to love.
We all have our moments – passion and energy overcome a lot of emotions.
But for the last 12 months you have pounded this door – and think that you have come up with something meaningful.
Let me ask, What if we get a manager in by Christmas, Who gets the players playing and we finish above 10th this season…. Your whole argument goes out the fucking window.
Immaturity.
You are the sort of person that would still be in denial if we went down
. …..we are in the bottom 3 only off the bottom by goal difference without a manager and no one wants the job…..proof enough……. probably not.
I know the situation the club is in.
There is no proof of the shit you spout.
The club is still in the best position it has been in in over 20 years, maybe even over 30 years.
Welcome back Paul.
Some of us “negative, “moaning” SUPPORTERS have been predicting this scenario for well over 2 years. We are being proven not to be negative but realistic.
I take no pleasure in saying we told you so, but we did despite constant unjustified and occasionally ignorant and personal criticism from some quarters.
And unfortunately, after Saturday it is now even more clear than ever that the club is being grossly mismanaged by people at the senior level who know little or nothing about football and probably not a lot about anything else. A huge rethink at Molineux is needed NOW starting with the abandonment of the Shi / Mendes axis. Gestitute have been ripping us off for ages and manipulating our transfer policy for the benefit of Gestitute only. No longer Portugal A/B but C/D.
We are on the verge of matching the catastrophe of Wolves in the early 80’s. Do something now Guo before your £350 million asset is worth less than the £38 million you paid.
I’ve disliked your post because happy clappers are not idiots. They want to see the team doing well like you do. To call us idiots is ridiculous and frankly insulting and pretty pointless. Because like you and all of the rest of us “happy clappers” we know about and acknowledge all the negative aspects. It’s just I can’t help having hope that we will turn it around.
Very well put Sutton.
Shame not enough of us can see the wood for the trees.
It’s tough to even comment after such a poor result. But Leicester looked fitter, better coached, better organised and blunted our attacks by getting numbers back behind the ball.
Wolves just look like a team of individuals who find it more difficult to score than the contestants in the H-T entertainment slot do to kick the football through the hole in the plastic sheeting that covers the goal.
It’s the inevitability I hate, you just know that after us missing a few reasonable chances, and putting them under pressure we concede. Then concede again. Seems we go to pieces losing shape and guile.
Who is to blame? Well ultimately it’s the board who have seemingly made poor choices in attempting to mould a self sustaining Premiership side. A buy one sell one system that hasn’t cut it so far.
Why ,with two strikers injured, you have a situation where we have only a 34 year old striker in the twilight of his career as the sole option. Couldn’t we have got Campana, for example, back from wherever he is? Or is Silva an option.? We need something different and pronto. Because this is starting to unravel.
I’m speechless, kilman and johney just rolled in from the nightclub, why do wolves do it to me, too good to go down omg, lord help us, where’s that whisky, wolves aie we.
I had the same thougt. Kilman looked like he did last winter when his form dipped tramatically. And Jonny… Lets go back to 3-5-2.
Collins- Kilman (or Mosquera) – Totti, the back 3.
Dyche or Nuno short term to organise us . IF , and we are where Newcastle were at last year , we stay up; a root and branch reform. Get football expert to see where teams like Brighton or bigger clubs organise their infrastructurre. Not to have a director of football is a travesty. Then we not only mimic other clubs set ups but improve on it. Relying on Shi and Mendes is not enough. We are in a terrible spot , dont under estimate the creek we are up and as far as i can see, there are no paddles. This squad is awful, unbalanced and threadbare and to be honest, given the state of it, im not sure how much we can improve. Its all so sad as its so avoidable. Sycophancy , nepotism and obsequiousness have no place in a modern well run club.
We are all unhappy and you can bet your bottom dollar that the upper echelons at Fosun are also unhappy.
We can say all we like about the mistakes made before this season but it is a fact, is it not, that the hierarchy released over £100m in the summer and, to my eyes, it has virtually been completely wasted.
We have Guedes who, to date, has shown minimal attacking ability and can’t get in the team. £25m.
Then there’s Nunes. Shows flashes of talent but his passing is often awry and so is his control. £42m.
And then there’s Collins. One for the future, maybe, but here and now? He and Kilman in tandem are just too inexperienced at the moment to make an effective central core and partnership.Such a shame that the Dawson deal fell through. £20m.
Moving on to Hwang. Why oh why did we agree to sign him permanently so early on when we had him on loan for the full season and could have made the decision, and said no thanks, much later?£12m.
That’s circa £110m. With effective scouting and recruitment we could have got a real top notch striker and midfielder for that.
At the moment, it’s hard to imagine any manager sufficiently improving such a disjointed and malfunctioning squad so extensive surgery is evidently needed. Given such wasted summer expenditure can we expect Fosun to dip into their resources again come January? Possibly as relegation will almost certainly be more expensive than spending another £100m. The big,big problem is do we have the necessary talent within the current payroll to actually recognise the types of player needed and then get them to sign up for a relegation battle?
For the next few pre World Cup games it’s clear that something drastic has to be done and, for me, that has to be reverting to a back five for the time being. Our defenders and particularly our ridiculously error prone right backs just aren’t good enough to operate in a back four. At least if we are able to shore up the defence we might be able to grind out results whereas at the moment we have no chance because we need a minimum of two every game to stand a chance of winning and we can’t even manage one most times.
Have we the personal now though to play with a back five when two of our best exponents in Coady and Saiss are no longer around? Toti clearly isn’t good enough to play as one of the central three. So where do we go? Much as I hate to sacrifice his midfield talent, in the very short term I think Ruben could play the sweeper role with Collins and Kilman either side.
Some might think that this is not the answer but are there any better ideas with the squad of misfits currently at our disposal?
We could have if we’re allowed to shop outside of Mendez Supermarket.
Was Collins Mendez? Or Hwang? Agree that Fosun do rely on him probably to much but they are free to shop where they like.
Agree we need to go to 5 at the back, Bruno should have done it before he got the boot and Davis and Collins now need to smell the coffee.
Why is Toti not good enough?
Playing our best and most consistant player out of position is not the answer.
I think Toti showed in the Chelsea and Forest games that he just isn’t up to Premier league level. I’d love to be proved wrong.
But that was playing in a back 4 so a back 5 might be a completely different story. Besides was he was no worse than the rest of the defence.
You can understand the crowd reaction today following such an abject performance. Messrs Shi and Sellars have presided over what has been a shambolic player sale and recruitment strategy over the last couple of years.
I agree with Sutton in that to lose a player of Coady’s stature and influence is akin to corporate negligence. Bearing in mind his form for Everton (regardless of the bloody formation) I think his departure will not only be seen as one of the biggest blunder the club has ever made but also one of the biggest blunders in British football over the past few years.
My mother always told me that if I had nothing good to say then say nothing…… apart from apologising to a few bloggers for not staying around post match.
There was only one team who wanted to win today and it wasn’t us.
Blame the players – with a few exceptions they don’t deserve to wear the old gold shirt. Too many are on vast salaries and not giving 100%.
Blame the coaches – thrown into a disaster zone left by Bruno and trying
their best but out of their depth.
Blame the board. How can you run a football club with the people at the top knowing little about what it takes. If I was the Focus chair I’d sack the lot of them and get an experienced Chief Exec, Director of Football and Head Coach? He must act now. If this is left we are doomed.
Laurie Dalymple with Shi (balance), Kevin Thelwell and Nuno? It was a pretty successful combination.
More examples than you could count of poor performances, a lack of effort, let alone confidence and belief today. But what gives a crystal clear indication to me of where the team is at is this :-
At full time, after such a shocking performance, losing 4-0 at home, only Collins, Neves, Campbell, Bueno and Davis went to thank the supporters.
Tough times, fans paying a lot of hard earned money to come and support the team and most of the multi millionaire players just cleared off down the tunnel, tails between their legs. Disgraceful.
With performances like that, the supporters have every right to show their displeasure. And the least the players should do is collectively go and show their appreciation and even apologise; at least Collins has enough about him to do that.
Shocking. Some strong management and stronger words are desperately needed.
UTW
I am having to eat humble pie. Not even I can defend the shambles on the park today. I didn’t go as I have got some sort of sickness/dizziness bug so I spent the afternoon at my old dads. I get my optimism from him but even he chunterred when it went 3.0. We created 21 chances scored 0. A recipe for disaster. As for the criticisms of Jeff Shi/Sellars I accept the cobstructive criticism of those on this blog. It’s some of the hysterical stuff elsewhere that I dislike. But that’s just me. Clearly we need to find answers and quick. How do we get those 9 wins and a few draws when we can’t score a goal ? Solutions needed and quickly.
Your dead right cheesy, of those 26 games left 9 are against top 6 teams and a away match to resurgent Newcastle we will be lucky to get anything from those teams. If we don’t pick up any points from those 10 games it means those 30 pts have to come from just 16 games , we’re have to pick up points at the same rate as a top 6 team , no chance of that the way we’re playing
We need a new man in now not in new year who can crack the whip and shake this lot up if we have any chance of staying up
Power points:- Wolves are on the brink Thellwell leaves, Dallrymple arrives, Dallrymple leaves Shi takes over all jobs = wolves slow demise to where we are now.. conclusion… Shi thinks he knows everything whereas in reality he knows sweet FA.
Shi is Fosuns main man and in my opinion is an arrogant individual who it seems believes his company are the owners so will do as he says.
They had relative success at the beginning which after the previous disasters had given the club new belief.
Early mistakes resulted in the best manager appointment since (i would say) Bill Mcgarry.
A complete turn around from what they initially promised resulted in Nuno leaving regardless of the world wide problems which every one went through and shi then lost his way because although he thought he knew it all in fact he was woeful and then relied on career motivated individual sellars to advise him when actually he was no better qualified than he was and the result is where we are now .
Make no mistake regardless of todays result we are in the shit .
That idiot Lage was allowed to destroy under the view of Shi and Sellars the team morale the backbone the whole thing that had kept the club together inside a few short months resulting in what we have now no identity no leadership and not a clue about tactics formation responsibilities nothing .
And to cap it all the two complete idiots in charge of our club cant convince any decent manager to take on the task of pulling it all back together so they put the youth team coach in charge who is no where near qualified to take on such a momentous task.
This is a total and utter disaster beyond anything that a company as professional as Fosun should be presiding over Shi has to go he is arrogant and as out of his depth in the footballing world relying on yes men feathering their own nest.
We need a new CEO asap a complete football knowledgeable team at the top and a proper manager who may well cost a fortune along with no interference from the board and a very expensive recruitment budget …..
DREAM ON !!!!!
Whilst I agree with some of your points, Saiss and Ruddy were moved on despite Lage’s wishes. Don’t know whether the same situation occurred with Coady. I do know that Bruno was unhappy with recruitment part way through the transfer window and appeared to have little influence over player outgoings and incomings.
Well said spikeyboy.
On paper we are a good side but on the pitch where it matters we absolutely abysmal.
Hopefully it’s not to late, but if we wait until 23 we are doomed.
Not sure which paper you read, Johnok. They are names only and performances on the pitch say something completely different. Go through the squad on a one by one basis and I’m afraid most are not on a par with the majority of premier league squads. If you don’t think that’s the case, can you imagine anyone offering decent money for any member of our squad, Neves apart?
Spikeyboy you have nailed it here, spot on!
Jeff has emerged from the Chinese culture where no-one must question people in authority! That is my belief! That is why the leadership structure of Wolves has been whittled down to just two persons!
So many mistakes made at the top level, most of which have already been vented. The normal principles of business are not so straight forward in the football business!
The man at the top is responsible and he has to be the one to take the blame. Our problems with us being without a manager is only the tip of the iceberg, and Fosun should replace Shi for the club to move on.
Won’t even comment about the performance today — too frustrated and annoyed!
Is this season Groundhog Day for Wolves?
We should be used to this now.
Ever since the glory days of the 50s and 60s we seem to be stuck in a cycle of a few years of success followed by the inevitable decline.
Today we were truly awful.
Whatever the reason… McCarthy, Clipboard, Moxey, Morgan, Saunders, Shi, Sellars, Bruno… we don’t seem to be able to get out of the ever repeating sequence.
Was today another step towards the inevitable?
Perhaps we should ask Punxsutawney Phil.
And just one more thing.
If I see or hear the phrase ‘Happy Clappers’ one more time I will explode.
We all love Wolves. We all want the best for them. We all have our opinions.
We are neither ‘Doom Mongerers’ or ‘Happy Clappers’.
Ooh! Bugger! I’ve said it.
BOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!
Not been this dismal since the Bhattis, though I think if out of respect for the supporters they should forgo the championship and start at league 1 therefor saving many a dismal evening pondering if we can avoid the fall through as in the past
On a more serious note I’m wondering if there will be an exodus in the January window,I suspect the vultures will be circling soon
On a more superstitious note as an exile in the antipodes I get up at ridiculous o’clock to watch the matches the only 2 I’ve missed are Southampton and forest perhaps I’ll stop watching
Other than Neves, the vultures are welcome but can we attract right replacements for a relegation battle?
the wolves have been going down since fa cup semi final and also rauls injury we have to many light wingers no strikers we should not have signed injury prone centre forward a relegated centre back to play along side kilman who wants a kick up ass not vocal no expression no fullbacks jonny used to be good but and mourtino love him but not fitting in now with neves and i would not be happy captain saying he wants to go barcelona althouth let them all go to barcelona players i do not rate semdo aint nouri podence hwange costa way off guedes are you joking nunes pull your finger out there is no fight in wolves team the board wants looking at the interim manager is not up to it something has to change or wolves are down mourtino has nearly has his day and donnt pick up on typoes i normaly just watch whats going on i mean they made leicster and crystal palalce look good.
sorry i went to bed bed but came down who thought that kilman and collins could be our centre backs in the top division wants sacking
I have started to come to this conclusion.
Kilman – Awesome as a second next to a actual leader (Cody)
Collins – Awesome as a second nex to a actual leader (Tarkowski)
Together, 2 lost little lambs without an ounce of leadership between them.
We are farcical. What a joke – This is our last season in the prem – after spending £120 million we are in some real financial trouble
They are our centre backs knowlesey ..decent players just lacking confidence as are the rest.
It’s probably easier to play well when confidence is high but like wearing wellies if it’s not.
Problems were seeing are most likely created higher up.
What the outcome has delivered is a squad +rabbits+headlights.
This can turn round and the world Cup break could be the saving grace but I totally understand why we can’t recruit a decent manager.
We’ve all got a part to play, especially if there’s a lack of confidence…that spreads like poison.
On today’s performance we’re in deep trouble. I must admit I’m not sure where we start to sort the mess out.
I’d be surprised if by January we can still call on the services of Adama or Neves so whoever takes the reins of whatever is left of the squad will need to be some sort of magician.
Well yesterday WAS truly abysmal.. in fact it wasn’t even that good.
But one thing I’m definitely not … is a happy clapper…. Folks who applaud (or clap ) are ones who ‘encourage to do better’ … avoid adding pressure .. or pressurise players who eventually play with fear…
As I say I was disgusted with the effort of most yesterday (Neves and Bueno excepted).
Shi and Sellars have made big big mistakes in their strategy over the past 24 months but the biggest IMO is to have an inexperienced, at this level, coach and coaching staff…. ITS THE ONE SEGMENT OF THE CLUB THAT CAN EFFECT THE PERFORMANCES.. given the right appt.
Davis, Roberts and the other coaching guys just aren’t ready for this big challenge. (There were four in the technical area yesterday… non of whom seemed co-ordinated) … waiting until 2023 is madness.
Someone above suggested we’ve got to play the top 6 plus Newcastle… 9/10 times before the season ends… and therefore Zero points .. I’m referring them to Notts Forest’s result over the weekend.
Of course I’m concerned with all of this .. big time.. the powers that be need to step up…NOW
Like many who subscribe to the Blog I’ve supported Wolves for decades, seven in my case, and was thrilled when Fosun took over and after year after year of hopeless mediocrity we had three years of exciting football and results. And I was and still am grateful to Fosun for that. I still believe that they still want what is best for Wolves. So I would, with respect, suggest the following.
Jeff sack Sellars, whatever you think he’s got it ain’t working.
To Fosun back in HQ recall Jeff. I believe it was his hubris and perceived loss of face that led to the departure of Dalrymple. It’s been down hill ever since. Protect your investment before it’s too late; it maybe already.
When I heard the pre-match Davis interview before the game calling on the players to “fight for the badge” my heart sank and I knew we were going down.
I mean really, is this what we have to resort to? A tired old Mike Bassett cliche that plays well to the fans but means absolutely nothing to the players?
I mean no disrespect to Davis but this is the Premier League in 2022, and his last two jobs were at Crewe and Orient. I like him, he seems like a decent man and is one of us – a fan who loves the club.
This reminds me of Terry Connor – decent men, out of their depth, hung out to dry to cover up poor decisions made at the top of the club.
At least now there is still time to get out of trouble, but it will be a tough fight from here on in.
Or another way he was asking for 100% effort. Did he get it? That’s what Guardiola demands and he doesn’t half get it. Just look how animated he gets when Man City are2,3,4,5 up and he thinks that they’ve taken their collective foot off the gas.
Well, all managers ask for 100% effort don’t they?
But they only get it if the players either a) genuinely care about the club, b) have respect for the manager and buy into their way of doing things, or c) are scared of losing their place in the side.
Sadly, apart from Neves and a few others I’m not sure if any of the above apply to our players at the moment.
Well I’ve seen it all now !
I have just witnessed a tweet which is a picture taken from behind Scott Sellars in the directors seats yesterday which clearly shows a white board with game plays drawn on it.
It is blatantly clear he is sticking his oar in and from what I am reliably told he is trying to or is running everything and can be a very nasty piece of work if you upset him.
So WHO is running this shit show on the pitch him or the poor bloke he has installed as the next fall guy.
Its no wonder potential managers aren’t interested.
Luckily I was away for a big family event yesterday and missed following the match. That saved me biting my nails for two hours. OK, we’ve had such 4-0hammerings before in the Fosun era (think Burnley and West Ham) but this time it’s different. This time we’re not getting the wins either. It’s no longer just the occasional loss.
Rumour has it that the Fosun owner is coming over to kick ass. He should think about a Director of Football, and also a new head coach, like right now. Davis & Collins may well be out of their depth, like Terry Connors was. Decent nice guys of course.
Unlike many fans I’m not predicting relegation. But we have to get our house in order before it is too late and before losing becomes a habit.
While I agree with pretty much everything said above about our poor performance, especially our finishing, perhaps we shouldn’t overlook just how fucking jammy Leicester were?
We hit the post and it bounces out, every time.
Leicester: five shots, four finding their way over the line? The kind of day every team dreams of!
See your point the vile had a similar day … unfortunately.
I was sat in the pub as the smug bastards came back from the game ..you’d have thought they had won the European cup the look on their faces !
Gentlemen I agree with the majority views of miss management from the very top from the advisory personnel of transfer targets team selections and substitutes and even some players non interest in the old gold that pays their wages. Where I can’t agree is that we can magically lift ourselves from this decimated position to one of premier league status. Mr Lage has left behind a carnage of a once proud football club and the governing bosses have watched him do it. Anyone with a modicum of footballing knowledge in the hierarchy of WWFC would not have given the authority to release Conor Coady from his position That is forever unforgivable !
We now require not just a manager but half a team and selectors who know what is required We also require a club chairman who knows the difference between a footballer and a ballet dancer and to my mind Fosun will not be able to find all of them before January. So forget your dreams about staying in the premiership and hope that Fosun take up the challenge early enough to secure a place in the premiership for the following season as Fulham have done
I am a firm believer in our motto of Out Of Darkness Cometh Light but we will have to be patient and hope that Fosun are up for that challenge
Incidentally I agree 100 per cent with Mutleighs eloquent blog of 23/10/22
Back 5 please, the back 4 implementation hasn’t worked. 21 chances created gives us hope if we can shore it up at the back. If we can’t score more than the opposition then at least lets try and stop them scoring more than us.
Costa still not fully there yet but the signs are positive.
It’s pointless at this stage of the season to be a doom monger, it’s not good but it’s far from the end of the world with over two thirds of the season left.
Unlikely Shi and Sellars will get the boot at this point in the season but lets hope their incompetence has not gone unoticed by Fosun and we see wholesale change in the Summer along with a different direction strategically.
As much as Samedo made errors at the back against Palace he was good going forward, Jonny is not the solution though, he’s a shadow of his former self atm.
Everyone is slating Mouthino but he got the highest stats of the whole team.
Podence continues to flatter to decieve, as a forward he has never hit any real form since his arrival.
What’s Conor Ronan done, he can’t get a game. He’ll do a MGW if he stays on the bench any longer. He has goals and assists in his locker.
Gotta stick with it, Leicester had picked themselves up before they got here, they are a quality team with a quality manager, we are a team devoid of confidence and an interim manage doing his best. We got battered, we move on.
UTW
League table right now shows 9 other teams within 4 points of Wolves
Likely 3 of this 10 get relegated
Goal difference shows 3 teams in a bad place including of course our good selves at – 13
Yep we might go down and yep we might come back up
But better if we stay up as one of the 7 of 10 survivors
So what then?
Coaches have to work out our best team options for each game … there’s no
Magic dust I’m
afraid
Slow gradual progress is the only answer and then maybe gamble in January transfer window ( but next manager has to be part of that planning)
Shouting and firing folk isnt helpful right now … that can come next Summer
Team and coaches have to work with what we have as fit and able players
We haven’t suddenly become a shit squad
26 games to go
OODCL
We haven’t suddenly, I agree Marin. That started around a year ago but was accelerated to the nth degree in the summer with a catastrophic acquisition and disposal policy. Who exactly was at fault is a hot conversation point but probably a mixture of the manager and the hierarchy.
Well you got the last lines right.
We haven’t suddenly become, quote “a shit squad” we have had one for over 2 years. And a very small one at that.
Not much of substance in the middle of your post but why do you think holding the relevant people to account until next summer is the way forward, the club is in crisis and it needs to be addressed before it’s too late.
And as you tend to be quite forthright in your critiques of us “negative moaners” (realists) presume you will understand when the response is in kind. ie. you can dish it out but can you take it?
Just saying!
Feck me, talk about head in the sand. Urgent and decisive action is required now, not next summer when we are back in the Championship, and all the rats will have deserted the sinking ship. Although to be fair, that’s not a bad idea!
I haven’t called anyone a happy clapper or an idiot.
But still it’s ok for other bloggers to label me a ‘ moaner” and dislike my blogs, which is fair enough but don’t be all offended when I and others on this blog who predicted this mess say we told you so.
80 per cent of the money spent in the summer went through George Mendez and I suspect that goes for the last six years also that tells it own story and while at first Mendez was an asset IMO he has become the source of our present predicament Jeff has only ever sort his and Seallers advice and look where it has got us.
A blinkered approach and over reliant on one agent add in no one will tell Jeff what he doesn’t want to here Mr Seallers and his is what happens .
And no I don’t get any pleasure in saying I told you so…… but like in every faintly sometimes you have to say it how it is not what role want to here…. Jeff take note.
Moanin about being called a moaner.
People were pretty happy at the end of the window but now, since Guedes seems to be underpreforming and Nunes is still adjusting, people are second guessing again and rewriting history.
Happy we sent best pat of the budget on Mendez clients I blogged the season before Brentford came up we should go for Ivan Toney but no … we go for Hwang Why because e was Asian.
Jeff excuse British market over priced well you get what you at for unless you’re buying from Mendez and your Wolves.
J
Now that Bruno is gone, let’s find someone else to blame. If Sellars leaves, then it will be Shi’s fault.
Then somone else.
John’s?
Or am I being simplistic like Tim reincarnated?
Glad to see satire is still alive and kicking on this blog even if the team are not!
My take on the Steve Davis appointment is a case of deja vu ( Terry Connor) and will surely result in relegation. We need to bite the bullet now, appoint a proven PL battler ( Sean Dyche ) and we might just stay up. Successfully managing a football club should not be rocket science- Arsenal have shown patience with Arteta who learnt at the feet of Pep and have an experienced Director of football to provide advise and counsel. No harm in copying what the best clubs do. Action now Fosun please.
Looks as if Shi’s way out of this mess is management by inertia. Yes very Terry Connor and that worked well didn’t it.
Paul AD67
Totally agree I remember a lot of comments when found took on Mendez that this would happen, no one likes to slag off their team but sometimes the truth is the truth.
World corruption is on the rise and more blatant than ever and football is no exception given the amount of money sloshing around,
Wonder what the reaction would be if Davis and Collins returned to the u21s leaving the position open and forcing Jeff’s hand
Out of darkness cometh light , someone put a dollar in the meter please
Seriously Paul you have never been able to put forward a considered opinion. More a stream of consciousness. As soon as you can put forward a useful way forward come back (again).
I know its hard isn’t it to admit someone else might be right someone who’s view doesn’t conform to yours.
As Esther Ransom used to say” That Life”
I’d have more respect for people who just said” Idont agree but I respect your right to have an opinion “
Unai Emery appointed as Villa manager! Didn’t take them long did it!
To be honest. Such is the prevailing mood amongst the Wolves fans at the moment around Jeff Shi if we had got Emery in you would have had people saying ‘he was rubbish at Arsenal’ ‘ Arsenal sacked him’ ‘lost the dressing room’etc etc etc . Not a criticism. Just saying the mood is such that everything gets picked over. Words. Actions. Staff. Sellars. Interesting defence of Sellars by Steve Madeley in the Athletic. Just putting it out there for debate. I’M NOT TAKING SIDES!!
COD
Is it surprising that we are up in arms? Even you admit to despair.
The crows have come home to roost after over 2 years of gross mismanagement under Shi not coincidentally since around the time of Laurie Dalrymple’s departure.
This period has seen a catalogue of errors notably –
The disastrous failure to address the Jiminez injury.
The excessive amount of influence of Mendes at the club.
Failure to back Nuno in the transfer market when desperately needed.
The appointment of Lage and the failure to have a replacement strategy resulting in the “temporary” 3 month appointment of a couple of well-meaning rookies who are well out of their depth.
And letting Lage decimate the squad by allowing him a free hand to “cleanse” us of all things Nuno (notably Coady, Saiss, Boly, Dendoncker and albeit temporarily Fabio).
We are where we are because of the cumulative effect of the above and it’s becoming increasingly clear that Jeff Shi has little or no knowledge of football and an autocratic style, surrounding himself with yes men (Sellars eg.) who prefers to do as much business as possible with his mates (yes Mendes) to the detriment of the club.
PJB . Yeah I am very worried. Worried about where 9 wins and 3 or 4 draws are coming from. 26 games left. . We are currently scoring 0.42 goals per game. If that is repeated over the final 26 games it is barely 11 goals. So unless we get the 9 wins by 1-0 and 4 draws (2 × 1.1 and 2 x 0.0) we are going down. The answer is obviously SCORE MORE GOALS. Then we might. Just might have a fighting chance.
Agree on that Adrian ..
Sacking to backing in about 6-7 days … and could turn out to be half a decent shout ..
Us … Poundland shopping …
Should’ve been doing it at ‘Arrods..
I am convinced that Nuno has unfinished business he had a team which continually astounded me. He had an unenviable rapport with all the fans and the city. If covid were never to have graced our shores, I truly believe he would would be riding high and so would we…..it ain’t going back it’s unfinished business for all of us.
Can’t see Nuno coming back while Shi is in charge. Also I think he would insist on more input on inbound transfers as he was badly let down with the likes of Cuitrone, Jordao. Willian Jose and the lack of support after Raul’s injury.
Paul Ince and Alex Rea at Reading doing a good job on very limited resources and with players that were struggling last season.
Both ex players know what Wolves fans expect would put rocket up players.
With all due respect to Steve Davis the players especially the likes of Gedes are taking the piss he would get away with it under Ince.
There are some things more important than football.
And one of them is the friendship of a good mate.
Today is Clivemas. Clive from Houston’s birthday.
Just a short note so that everyone will raise a glass to him and his lovely wife Marla this evening.
The blog is all the poorer for him not being here anymore.
We’re in good hands…..
It’s not me guv it’s my doppelganger trying to prove I’m an interfering low down scum sucking liar….and I will never apologize for the chicanery he stoops to
I knew it was the big lads birthday today .. and thanks DOOG for being the first on with it …
We still live on expecting him to FaceTime any minute … such was his care, kindness and thought for others… we’ll never forget.
Happy heavenly birthday Cliveyboy… and Marla…
Love from the Twixes.. xx
I pinched this from the express and star Clive would have liked this
“To be fair, we are only a new executive director, new director of football, new manager, new assistant manager, new coaching staff, new striker and a new centre back, from really turning this around”
Right back?
Sunday? It’s all been said above. Just need Jeff Shi and his team to work with gusto in selecting our next manager. Waiting is not an option.
Two Facebook reminders today for Clive’s birthday. He didn’t do anything by halves.
Clive would have been 71 today. Thinking of you – and Marla.
Widespread reports are circulating that Neves will be heading to Barcelona on loan in January, presumably with an option to buy.
I don’t begrudge Ruben a move – he’s earnt it and we should wish him well, but we could have done with keeping him in our relegation battle till the summer.
Nice to see our “friend” Mendes working in our favour again (not). Supporters of Seville and Valencia warned us years ago about the duplicitous nature of Uncle Jorge. The days of Gestitute being our working ally are long gone despite their Fosun connection,
Anyone hear Tarkowski on the Monday Night Club talking about his partnership with Conor, and Conor’s impact on the dressing room? And did it make you as angry at our wanton loss, as it did me?
Yes mate.
I get angrier every time I see or hear anything about how he has been such a good influence on the pitch and in the dressing room.
Didn’t hear it on the MNC, but heard him on Talksport this morning, and also Frank Lampard saying how much improved the dressing room is, due to Coady and Tarkowski. It just made me feel very sad that we’ve lost his influence on the team.
The good thing is that he hasn’t left just yet and the stories surrounding why he left will allow conor time to reflect on where his heart lies.
Never say Never.
It has shown just how important a vocal leader is on and off the pitch.
Fosun will have been well and truly embarrassed by the stories in the papers and will want to sort this mess out rapidly.
Watch this space…
I reckon that space will be when hell freezes over.
Probably right peaky but I’m fed up with so much toxicity around the club..I need to remain positive.
Nothing lasts forever…including Fosun
Get Ince and Rea in…… KNOW Jeff
Agree with AD67 they’ll sort out the shirkers.
GET THE GOVERNOR IN….!
Give Bully 10 mins in the dressing room with them all. Ran his body into the ground for the club.
Sa – looking half asleep leaning against the wall in the tunnel
Jonny/Semado – jogging back totally unforgivable
Kilman -no vocal presence
Guedes- looks like he was forced to come
Traore- fans welcome him back chant his name and still doesn’t stay on the pitch to acknowledge the fans
Come on lads have some professional pride
Quite a few of the contributors to this blog must have been happy with our transfer dealings.
They said Coady was too slow, Dendoncker was a useless donkey, Saiss give away too many fouls and made too many mistakes, I could go on about other players they slagged off.Coady appears fast enough at Everton, The Villa captain was dropped for Dendoncker who by all reports had a fine game .Saiss has stated he was shown no fecting respect by Shi and sellers in his contract offer though he and Bruno wanted it sorted. Read the podcast,
They would all be in the team now and maybe get a few goals between them.
I have enjoyed the last four years , thanks to Fusun,Mendes and of course Nuno and his team. What fun we have had.
The bubble has burst, and now the moaners really have some to moan about, I Hope they enjoy it.
By the way i have supported the Wolves since the the fifties soiwont get enjoy another 4 years like the last
Hancock’s Half hour? You really don’t have to be a moaner to regret the treatment and departure of an inspirational captain, due to an inept manager. Of course the last four years have been great, and the summer signings looked good. None of that forgives the way things have now turned out – indeed, they reinforce the lousy situation we are now in.
Hancocks 44
Bit baffled by your post.
On the one hand you highlight SOME examples of the shambolic running of the club over the last 2+ years but then by implication criticise those of us realists (not moaners) who have been highlighting the slide towards this calamity for ages.
Are you just sitting on the fence or are you afraid of incurring the wrath of those unable to see the wood for the trees and have been labelling those of us who have called it correctly as moaners and much worse.
This crisis has been brewing for a long time – in fact it goes back to the sale of Jota and the injury to Jiminez, neither of which has been addressed by Shi and Sellars. Over 2 years of inertia and incompetence has left us where we are, rooted in the relegation zone and unable to score a goal a game, nor even looking as if we might.
And now unable to recruit a proper manager.
I too have supported Wolves since the 50’s and was lavish in praise For Fosun in the first 4 years but the subsequent lack of professional management and total lack of nous at the top is inexcusable.
I can’t understand all this fuss over Neves.
We’ve been playing shit football, and unable to score, for over a year now and he’s been at the heart of everything.
If he goes to Barcelona we’re buggered? Breaking News!!! He’s played 11 of our 12 matches so far this season and where are we?
Shouldn’t he be taking some of the blame for our desperate position instead of dreaming of the Nou Camp?
Even De Bruyne would be regularly on the losing team if he had 10 dustbins as teammates, if you get the somewhat over the top analogy. He is the only player who can truly hold his head up high over the last 20 games or so.
I disagree, I think none of them is blameless in any of this.
Anyway, If you give any credence to the comments on here, our “10 dustbins” would suddenly be the best players we’ve ever had if we were to sell them.
Daring to criticise Saint Ruben?
I’m not saying he’s a lousy footballer (they are all very good, in the right circumstances) but not only is his midfield generalship failing to bring results, his captaincy isn’t inspiring anyone either.
Bring on the negatives because when he moves to Barcelona you’ll all be on here blaming Jeff Shi for selling him when it’s abundantly clear he wants out; just like Jota.
Except that he’s stayed with us for at least an extra 2 1/2 years at least. In these days of almost zilch loyalty to clubs, Neves has shown much, much more than most.
Is that really a serious post?
I have just seen Nuno in the Spar shop in Gornal. He was looking at a tube of salt and vinegar pringles. I said ‘”are you coming back to save us ?” He said ” No. I am buying a tube of salt and vinegar pringled”. So I buggered off up the pub.
What!!!
Salt and vinegar pringles!!
You been smoking some green stuff?
What is the situation with Campana.
Can he come back to Wolves after US season finishes.
Good question Jim.
And all the other loanees, particularly those at Grasshoppers who are unlikely ever to set foot in Wolverhampton.
We, unfortunately, gave Inter Miami the option to buy Campana. See link:
https://www.molineux.news/opinion/wolves-might-just-be-regretting-negotiating-an-option-to-buy-clause-for-inter-miami-over-leonardo-campana/
Two thoughts.
1. Even if we could cancel the loan, would he be any bloody good in the PL ?
2. If Inter Miami don’t take the option up, and we get him back, what would that say?
Rafa Mir and Fabio Silva are scoring in weaker leagues, but I doubt if they could replicate this in the PL.
Mir can’t even do it in Spain at the moment, Dances. One goal since May.
Jesus wept !
