Missed opportunities.
It’s been the story of the season.
As Anfield held its collective breath today, it was Hwang, Dendoncker and Raul falling short in the big moments.

We got the early goal but as the game developed it was the wrong pass, a loose cross or the old favourite – woeful finishing – that cost us the result in an outing to perfectly encapsulate the campaign.
From the position Wolves got themselves into by mid February and the meagre points tally required for European qualification, this has been one giant golden chance squandered.
If we’re playing the blame game between head coach and ownership my sympathies lie with the former.
Bruno Lage has been an easy target in recent weeks, but he’s been without key personnel or adequate replacements. The tactical setup was correct today, as it has been on many occasions. His players simply failed to execute.
He picks the team, but whether it’s Hwang, Trincao, Raul, Fabio or Dendoncker arriving in the box, the outcome is nearly always the same – Wolves don’t finish their dinner.
38 goals in 38 games isn’t enough. The only three teams to score fewer are the three south of the dotted line and that must serve as a red alert for the summer ahead. Address this problem or suffer the consequences.
We might need a backup goalkeeper and a holding midfielder if any combination of Neves and/or Moutinho leave but the big money needs investing at the business end of the pitch.
There is potential galore across the defensive line with Ait-Nouri and Toti proving again today that they’re both fantastic prospects and along with Max Kilman could form the basis of an outstanding back four in the years ahead.
It’s to Fosun’s credit that they’ve identified, signed and blooded these talented young players in an environment as unforgiving as the Premier League.
But we can’t rely exclusively on potential. We need battle hardened senior pros to move this team forward.
They’ve done it before in that momentous window post promotion that saw Patricio, Jonny, Moutinho, Traore and Jimenez all recruited and immediately installed right down the spine of the starting XI.
That is the kind of hard reset that’s required again to not only lift the squad, but also lift the mood amongst an increasingly despondent fanbase.
The achievement of a fifth consecutive season of Premier League football after a third top half finish in four seasons shouldn’t be discarded but there is just that lingering sense that with a little bit more – it could have been so much better.
A great effort by Wolves. However, we had so many chances to score the second, when the score was still 1-1, but I agree, woeful finishing and the wrong pass squandered our chances. We gave it a good go and at least it was exiting and we did not lay down and die!
A lot of investment is required next season or we all know where we will be! Thomas said it all. Enough said!
To all of the Bloggers enjoy the off season and stay safe!
On this form played 14, lost 9, won 3, drawn 2 without Neves next season and buying and loaning the level of players we have been of late we will be playing that Tesco bag lot before you can say Lage needs another transfer window.
Clearly half the team are not good enough and the manager has not improved the players at all. Lage out and get somebody in who knows what they are doing is my view !
Missed a really good chance to finish 5/6 this season, the extra points needed were there for the taking.
No mention of the non-penalty in the Liverpool box?
For the 2nd time in 3 years I’ve come away on the last day at Anfield thinking your fans are a bunch of scruffy little oiks. Always quite liked & respected your team until then, but think you’re a bunch of dicks, trying to goad us as if we care a jot about Black Country nobodies.
First of all thanks to Thomas and all involved with the blog. Enjoy the summer break. Most of us are pretty much on the same page. Over 38 games Bruno has probably achieved all he could with the resources at his disposal which is the first priority of a manager/head coach. There is still a strong foundation here but the spine of the team needs refreshing particularly midfield and strikers – if Ruben does go I have really enjoyed watching him over the last 5 years and wish him all the best . Some of the goals are unforgettable. If that happens then Fosun must protect the interests of the club and ensure that we extract the maximum fee and reinvest with optimum outcome. Over to Jeff and colleagues.
Oh bore off mate. Your team basically wins everything and you have one afternoon where it doesn’t go completely your way and you’re rattled by a bit of sarcasm from a small group of traveling supporters. What did you expect? I mean this is a really childish post. Move on.
Amazing you’ve won both domestic cups, come second in the Premier and are off to yet another Champions League final, something us Wolves fans could only dream of, but still you come onto a Wolves Blog to moan how ‘unfair’ our fans are not to fall over themselves about the ‘great’ Liverpool and how dare we take the piss. Typical scouser.
What a wanker. Probably some twat who lives in Surrey and watches telly. We are Wolves. We are a real football club. Not some glory hunting bunch of wankers.
Another of the jonny come lately fans..entitled and ungrateful.
Think that wolves fans should have avoided banter …put the shoe on your other foot and the lefty pool lot would have been worse
Ian seen it all before play wolves last game and finish second. Well done you nearly won the league
Moronic comment.
Even if some of our travelling fans may step out of line occasionally they have never precipitated a 5 year ban for English clubs from European competitions.
Perspective needed I think.
Well that’s rich coming from you.
The banter around the wolves quadrant and the Liverpool fans was in equal portions…
What is totally unacceptable is that one of your oiks decided to throw a glare into the Eolces fans below .. and then started to goad us … and you were winning..,
So Jack …. Go and politely..do one … and if you don’t understand that parlance .. you’re thicker than the concrete in the new stand..
Flare
Aston Villa are the Black Country nobodies that you should be having a go at mate, not us.
2-0 up and shipped three goals in… how many minutes was it?
Still, never mind.
You NEARLY won the League…… Again.
From a scouser…. hahahahahahahaaha
Agree 100%, Thomas, like my old headmaster used to put in my end of term reports, “can and must do better.”
Liverfool were there for the taking, especially second half when their nerves were frayed and they were panicking.
But no, leave it to Dendoncker and Hwang to play as they normally do, and cock things up.
Hwang is either O’Hara in disguise, or son of Ward.
Never stays on his feet, bitches and moans about every thing and couldn’t hit a barn door if it fell on him.
And headless chicken Donk, jeez, how about those two missed gift horses.
As to the rest of the squad, Silva, Marcal, Trincao, Coady, Boly ,Ruddy, Moutinho, should be moving to pastures new , tomorrow.
And why wasn’t Chiquinho given a run out?
However, rarely does a team take a previous season’s form into the following term, unless they play in sandwell, so hope springs eternal and all that bollocks for next season.
A good flushing of the team, deadwood floating gently downstream, and any other cliche you can think of, and with a good influx of world class players, we’ll be ok.
I would like to throw my two penneth in the ring along with nearly everyone on this wonderful blog, and say a heartfelt thank you to Thomas, coz he does most of the work, and a small thank you to Benny Boy, Paddy and Rasmin.
And we have finally got rid of non football Burnleh.
There is a dog after all.
A happy Summer to all our readers, only three months to kick off!
Agreed, Wolves gave far too many players who are simply not good enough to take Wolves to another level
20 points off the champions league and 16 points off relegation. Big summer, got to get it right. We’ve been slowly regressing for 3 seasons, although many choose to see the smokescreen of where we are now compared to the depths of the 80s. It’s not just time for fosun to find their ambitions again but also sections of our fan base. I’ve followed us home and away for 46 years and I’m tired of looking back, making excuses for missed opportunities and hoping for better next season.
Spot on Sutton to many fans looking backwards……it the here and now that matters not the past.
Fully agree with Thomas; to lay all the blame at Bruno Lage’s door is gross injustice.
The shortcomings of our squad are there for all to see. The goals scored column is woeful and the defence is no longer performing. Lage has asked for support and not received it.
It’s over to Fosun now but it’s no good them thinking they can sell Neves for say £50 million and go out and just buy more “ones for the future” on the cheap (apart from Fabio) as they did after grossly under valuing Jota.
Their whole transfer strategy over the last 2/3 years has been deeply flawed – is it coincidental that this ties in with the departure of Laurie Dalrymple?
Credit where it’s due Fosun have brought us forward a very long way, but they now seem to be lost as to where to go next. Well they have to rebuild the squad with quality and experience to replace those who we shall inevitably lose.
If they decide that Bruno isn’t their man then that’s their choice. They are the owners of the Club, but they are only it’s custodians because it is ultimately our club and currently just a cash cow for them.
So please Mr. Shi and co. action not words this summer as we have heard little more than platitudes during the last few transfer windows.
Where there’s a will there’s a way. Go out and show us you have the will please.
I actually thought we played really well . If we had the players Liverpool/Citeh had we could have been 3-1 up at half time. Bit unfortunate we ended up 10th but the end of season fade out saw to that. Just a win v Norwich would have meant 8th. It is what it is. You can’t change it. PJB is right. It really is time for Fosun to sort this out. A refresh is definitely required. Sign probably 2 or 3 players and i think we can look forward to summat good next season. Thanks to Thomas et al for their massive efforts as usual. Thanks to everyone who makes a great contribution to the blog. Overall not a massively bad season. Could have bin better. Love you all. Wolves ay we !
Could have been better but to be fair I for one feared it would be a lot worse. Onwards and hopefully upwards!
I went back and read Thomas’s view again but my understanding is that Thomas actually does blame Lage rather than Fosum for recent performances, and in that I would agree. But anyway, as regards today, okay so the starting selection today was adequate, although I’d like to think/hope that some of the U23’s may have been given a go if they weren’t playing tomorrow night. (I’ll be there and hoping to see a few Wolves goals for a change). As regards the performance, quite a few played better than they have for weeks and at 1-0 up we could think the unthinkable but then yet again the choice of substitution – Hwang being brought on to replace Neto is yet another example of the woeful sub choices Lage has made this season. We had Podence, Chiquino and Trincao on the bench. 3-1 away to Liverpool is no disgrace, but Wolves missed so, so many opportunities. At the start of the season I would have taken 10th, but next season expect a resurgent Everton, Newcastle, Palace, Villa, plus Brentford will improve – where does that leave us? Ruben may leave but in my humble opinion, he’s a brilliant footballer and a lovely bloke with three kids all born in Wolverhampton – if we were in Europe next season I think he’d stay. Three or four signings to enhance and improve what we have should be enough, but my doubts lay not with the players and the squad but with the manager.
Did Lage want Trincao?
Did Lage want Hwang?
Did Lage want Traore gifted to Barcelona for 6 months without any guarantees?
Did Lage want to persist with an arguably misfiring Jiminez without back up?
And did Lage want to persist with a back 3/5 when he has consistently stated his preference for a back 4?
Did Lage want to see players brought into Wolves to be shipped straight out to Grasshoppers Zurich rather than incorporated in to his squad?
I suspect the answer to most of the above questions is no.
Just read it again and of course you’re right Thomas blames Fosum for our misfortunes so sorry I don’t agree.
Our final league position over the last two seasons proves we have gone backwards.
And today we saw why over reliance on a small and ever decreasing squad in terms of quality in a lot of cases a fair few past there sell by date. I agree with Thomas our chairmen and his boss have been far to focussed on finding rough diamonds to sell on and there in lys the problem if that is our strategy we are never going to hit the highs again achieved under Nuno no matter who is the manager.
We have a billionaire owner with sewn up pockets who is not willing to invest anymore if ever he truly was why Fosun brought Wolves in the first is anyone’s guess, for exposure well it certainly wasn’t to make us a force again that to me is clear and has been for a while now and the fans I have spoken to it has become clear to them to.
The question I’d like to ask Jeff is where do we go from here……I would suggest to him that if Fosun aren’t willing to invest then they cut there loses and sell up.
We have had some great times under Fosun but like players owners should be moved on if they are no longer up to the job.
Big thank u Thomas, bye and lots of love to all the bloggers, wolves aie we.
Well, missed chances (yet again), but glimmers of hope in today’s performance for next season. Won’t bang on about the obvious, but Fosun really have to decide if they will properly back Lage this Summer to create the attacking team he has a vision for. If he screws-up after that then sack him – but time now for our owners to really show what they want for our great club.
Indulge me one more time to moan about the fiasco Traore move to Barcelona…I know it’s not a view all will agree with, but it was a crazy decision and cost us precious goals and points.
Oh well, next season eh 🙂
Big thanks to Thomas and the team for the best football blog around.
UTW
No apologies for this post.
Just visited Wikipedia and ask myself – what qualifies Scott Sellars to be “Technical Director” of a Premier League football club.
Answers on a postcard (or stamp)!
Fuck All……!
I think today is much like our season, we flattered to decieve. We gave them a game but we lost.
I don’t think Bruno has burnt his bridges but the bridge is very shaky and if Fosun keep him on next season then it’s a gamble.
It’s a gamble if we take on a new manager though so hey ho. All aboard the Wolves rollercoaster.
See you next season bloggers.
Positives. As highlighted by Thomas, some great young talent coming through so we have something to build on, particularly in defense. Up front Neto has huge potential, assuming he can stay fit and well.
Negatives. Too many of our squad are no longer up to the task. Major deficiencies exist in midfield where strengthening is very urgently needed, irrespective of whether or not Reuben stays or goes. But even more so up front, where we are simply lightweight. If we begin next season still depending upon the likes of Hwang and Silva — neither of whom is anywhere close to Premier league standard — then we face a very harsh future.
Hopefully, Fosun will recognize that if serious upgrading is not forthcoming then their investment in our Club will be is considerable jeopardy. We can but hope.
Finally I would like to say that it`s a pleasure to be able to exchange views with all of you guys on this site. Long may it continue. Enjoy the summer, and let`s look forward to being able to celebrate a a top four finish this time next year,
Good summary.
Love your optimism Mike. We do indeed have some real talent in the making – Sa, Kilman, Ait-Nouri, Chiquinho and of course Neto all have the potential to become top class players or already are. Gomes? And surely Gibbs-White has to be given a serious chance.
The defence is well enough staffed to cope with a back 4 or 5 without serious reinforcement.
Agree also with all your negatives.
With the exception of Neto our attacking options are nowhere near PL standard – see goals scored, 1 per game is relegation standard.. Hwang and Silva (certainly as yet) are not good enough, Jiminez is a shadow of his former self, Trincao not staying anyway and Podence has one good game in about 5.
And if as expected Neves leaves our midfield is bereft.
So with our lack of quality in numbers in front of the defence I have to disagree with those who think we only need 2 or 3 players in. Assuming 3 or 4 squad members move on Fosun are going to have to spend a lot more than the incoming fees for those who are sold.
If Jeff and co. think they can continue to use the camouflage of the “ones for the future” strategy they are either deluded or deliberately kidding us. When the dust settles I believe we will probably need an influx of 5/6 top class PL standard players which probably translates into a spend of well over £100 million, ie. at least twice what we might get for Neves and Traore.
Would also strongly suggest Mr. Sellars has a long hard look at the 7 full internationals on our books plying their trade elsewhere on loan for starters. If we never intended to play them why did we buy them? Or does he really have any clout?
Do Fosun have the ambition?
Time will tell.
But if the last 2/3 years is anything to go by your optimism might be misplaced. So let us all hope a serious change of attitude is in the air.
PJB Your analysis is good. My optimism mainly rests on the fact that Fosun are a hard nosed outfit for whom investment protection will be top of the list. In my view, they will by now fully understand that unless positive transfer action is taken, they will be in jeopardy.
The other alternative for Fosun would be to sell up and make a positive return on their initial, modest investment. I don`t think that this should be ruled out.
Either way, I think there is hope for an improved future.
Finally, I have this sneaky feeling that if Fosun stay on and invest as necessary, it will not be Bruno who will remain in charge. Blame for our failure to progress this season will be accorded to Bruno, rather than their lack of support for him. That`s just how Chinese Companies operate.
I do admire your optimism Mike and don’t think its entirely misplaced. My doubts are mainly based on the fact that because Fosun are what they are, as you say a broadly based investment company, they may not have a very realistic perception of the football “industry” which in many ways doesn’t conform to normal business models or disciplines.
I think they may have come in to Wolves with the following thoughts –
1. At £30-40 million they (correctly) saw a bargain in in brand terms.
2. They perceived that after promotion buying their way into the upper echelons would be a lot easier than it is. The status quo of the big 6 is a lot more difficult to break than their corporate pockets wanted to spend on “the project”.
3. Their football involvement strategy was and still is not confined to Wolves. Links to “feeder clubs” and other such entities are complex and maybe a little shadowy. Grasshoppers is the prime example currently.
Subsequent unforeseen external circumstances have blown big holes in their ambitions for WWFC. Particularly-
A political cooling between the PRC and the West hampering their mega Wolves marketing strategy re the Far East.
The pandemic.
Business issues specific to Fosun, particularly the demise of Thos. Cook which I think burnt their fingers pretty badly.
I have a double edged view of where Fosun Wolves now stand.
They rescued us from 40 years of mediocrity and near oblivion and for that we should all be eternally grateful. But we seem to be lost in a sea of Fosun doubts and to a great extent incompetence (eg. why is an unproven lightweight like Scott Sellars our Technical Director? I believe we seriously miss the steadying counter influence to Jeff Shi that the presence of Laurie Dalrymple fulfilled.
And are we too dependent on the whims and machinations of Jorge Mendes; he initially served us very well but we’ve not seen so much benefit lately to put it mildly. A good example of the old adage “there’s no such thing as a free lunch”.
But if they do sell we could easily finish up with something far worse.
Basically we are pretty low on Fosun’s list of priorities and it’s all in the lap of the football gods who do owe us a few favours. This summer should give a good indication of where we are going.
Great points there PJB, spot on.
My thanks too to the guys running this blog. Have renewed J7 Row U 183 which I have sat in since 1979, so I really hope to meet some of you face to face next season.
All the best bloggers one and all.
KTF!
The bloggers mini ball missed hooking up with you Marnhull…
You missed a special evening..
Unfortunately I was in Canada M’Lord. Next time for sure.
Well we did not roll over and it was a very exciting game under the circumstances. Have no idea why Bruno brought in Hwang when Neto went off. On to next season with the hope that we replace those leaving with better quality and not youngsters for the future, half of which won’t make it in the premier.
Unfortunately predicted score was right.
First of all, a big THANK YOU to Thomas and his team who provide us with blog.
I’m not sure we can blame Bruno or Fosun; or even the players for this season.
It was clear from the begining that Bruno wanted to play attacking football but he quickly realised after the first three matches that we didn’t have the players to do it.
To blame Fosun doesn’t take into account the wider political situation, both in China and the rest of the world. We’re living on a very different to planet to the one when Fosun bought the club.
Yes, it’s been a disappointing last few months but we still finished 5pts better, scoring two more goals, and, three places higher than 2020/21. It’s only been a poor season because the expectations have become so much greater.
Bruno isn’t going to get £billions to spend so I hope we buy wisely with what’s available.
Less than 4 weeks to wait for the new fixture list, and a 6 August start, so here’s to another summer of daily googling “Wolves Transfer News”.
Cheers to everyone who contributes – have a good summer!
Refreshing perspective WTF, I’ve given up fretting over the level of Fosun’s potential future investment in the Club and the inevitable comings and goings. It’s all out of our hands- all I can ask is full commitment from those lucky enough to wear the shirt and a hope of consistent and unbiased refereeing. I won’t be holding my breath on the latter. Have a good summer everyone.
Many thanks again to Thomas and his team for Wolves Blog. It’s the best blog around and mercifully free of ads and clickbait.
In spite of the Liverpool match being live on Sky, I used my Stamford Bridge season tickets yesterday. I kept an eye on the Wolves match on my phone and was delighted when we seemed to be nicking a 1-1 draw, as I predicted. It was no disgrace to lose 3-1, a result that seemed to be harsh though.
My end of term report on our season is positive, although we ultimately botched our run on Europe. The reasons for our recent downturn in form may never be known, but if rumours of a certain illicit romantic relationship are true, therein lies the main answer. Heads will roll. If there’s nothing in the the rumours , then we sadly came up short in the final analysis. Whatever the reason, it’s fixable if Fosun still have the ambition. I can’t wait for next season.
Just seen that Villa have signed Kamara from Marseille today. Other bloggers have mentioned we have billionaire owners – Fosun own Wolves as opposed to it being a personal asset of any of the key players at Fosun who we should remember are an investment conglomerate and they undoubtedly looks at Wolves as a business not a toy. Billionaire owners can have very different agendas when buying football clubs. If Fosun see selling Neves as the key to substantial reinvestment in the squad then it’s crucial they don’t get into a state of paralysis over the next 3 months whilst Europe’s top talent in our price range gets hoovered up by the likes of Villa. Leicester, Newcastle and others. I don’t know if we were interested in Kamara but if we are standing by Bruno then please give him the best chance of succeeding and don’t throw him under the bus by leaving it until the last 48 hours of the transfer window
A proper end to the season which I thoroughly enjoyed. The Liverpool cage was given a good rattling until Neto went off. How we’ve missed him for alot of the season, he pulls the whole team up. Vanilla going 2-0 up at Citeh. Toothy going on like a demented puppet master unable to get the winner for 50 mins. By which time Citeh had scored 3. Ho ho.
All things considered we know we’re good but have to get the formula / personel right to be consistant, especially in the latter part of the season when we have let ourselves down. Again. Squad depth, injuries and Jimi’s red card have been an issue, but can we keep Neves please? Nice to see him get a mention for Goal of the Season.
As the Hove Albions batter Wham and those snooty Foxes pinch our 8th spot by twatting the Sinners, we may reflect that 38 goals hasn’t been enough and we have settled in a reasonable but not very entertaining 10th.
On a positive note, we can say tarra to the Carrots and Turd Moor for a bit. Though I see no good reason why Leeds can’t be relegated aswell.
Everyone’s upping their game and we must do the same or suffer the consequences. Now get yer flip flops on, quaff a few warm Banks’s and build golden sand Mollys with the littluns on the beach before watching the sun set with your arm around your one and only, scarcely remembering that before China and Portugal turned up we were shuffling about in lower league territories sniffing out a point at Wigan. See you next term.
1 lv & COYW.
I see Traore played a blinder last night!
A couple of things come to mind.
1) A positive showing against Liverpool might cause the powers that be to think “hey, we’re close. Just need a player or two and we’ll be alright.”
2) Only the rich teams (in every sport) can afford to spend millions on potential future players AND spend millions on players for now. The poorer teams have to decide on now or later.
The time is NOW!
Thanks to all – administrators, writers and members – for a great place to come and set a spell. Wishing all a safe and happy summer.
A couple more observations. The blatant shove over of Toti but no penalty. No VAR advising to look at the monitor. The Liverpool first goal very tight and marginal ‘not offside’. No 15 minutes of VAR agonising and drawing those f**king lines. No endless reviews by Sky replays of either incident. And look how the table finished up. Tge ‘big six’ in the top six. Is it any wonder when marginal decisions go for them. AND ALWAYS AGAINST US.
And 8 of our meagre total of 38 goals were against so called top six clubs!
I thought st the time it was a shove down in Toti… and sure enough .. more than enough to give a foul anywhere outside the box…. BUT .. at Anfield when it’s 1-1 with a lot at stake… NO VAR … which imo wouldn’t have been needed if Anthony Taylor had any balls…
One good laugh b4 the game was seeing Steve Mcknobaman having make up and blusher put on by a make up artist…….
What a Wally..
Remember though the 5+ minutes it took to disallow Neto’s goal at Anfield a couple of years ago because Jonny’s little toe was “offside”
Bloody scandalous.
So … a little mire than two months before we go again. SO
Priorities
1 learn Wolves plan for USA tour and fix rendezvous with CfH and others to see them play/ have beer etc etc
2 retain Thomas
3 retain Bruno
4 evolve squad carefully!!
…. Sort futures of
Neves( with heavy heart)
Traore( ditto)
Moutinho( ditto)
Trincao
Boly
Saiss
Marcal
MGW( hope he stays… he has class)
5 buy
15 goal forwards ….x2!
Top drawer midfield…x2
Fast central defender… x1
6 Be sure not to lose Kilman, Neto, Semedo, Ait Nouri, Podence, Johnny … and yes Raul
7 commit to 65 point target for next season. Ie Europa league place and a regular shift to back 4 ( sorry Connor)
8 continue coaching of my partner Linda on pronunciation of
Wolves ay we. ( currently she sounds a bit French)
9 retain faith in City motto
OODCL
10 wish bad karma on that twat Liverpool poster
Hasta pronto my friends
If I could have lied that 10x I would have …

Neves has given the clearest signal so far that he will be moving on in a interview with Express & Star and who can blame him. He has stayed loyal in the hope that Fosun were still up for the project but he has seen like us little evidence that they are over the last two seasons.
He has watched as Jota has won a League Cup and F.A Cup medals and might even win the big one a Champions League medal.
Neves knows he hasn’t a hope in hell of picking up silverware with us. He has been brilliant, amazing, humble and honourable throughout his time at Wolves the likes of which we haven’t seen before or will we see again he is a true gentleman and I wish him and his family all the best in the future.
Our city moto is ” Out of Darkness cometh Light ” but with Neves departure our lives will be forever that little bit darker.
Don’t you think 4 consecutive seasons in the top flight is a success ? How about 2 top seven finishes ? A top ten finish ? Don’t you think the ‘big six’ are miles and miles ahead of where we are after 40 odd years when we were basically useless ? Europa league. FA cup semi final. Isn’t that ‘successful ‘ enough for you ? What do you actually want ? Wolves to win the Premier league. The European champions league ? Fifth consecutive season in the top flight coming up. Not good enough ? I would say Fosun have delivered and more. Yes. There are some concerns going forward but bilmey the attitude of some fans is quite extraordinary.
Jesus……when are you going to move on, how many medals do you get for 7th, and 10th and a F..A Cup semi final.
Fuck me the guy wants to win something for fuck sake…..that might be your measure of success but it isn’t his.
Oh and you forgot to mention Chorely talk about living in the past.
Bollocks Chorley. Just don’t know what you truly expect.
I expect nothing……..apart from when people say they are going to do something they stick to it……not 2 years down the line come out will bull shit like…….Wolves have to be self sufficant when our owner is a billionaire several time over.
And if they have changed there minds to make Wolves a force again not 7th that they have the guts to come out and say so.
The truth that what I truly expect.
It’s only in the Olympics that taking part is apparently more important than winning Cheeseburger, but try telling that to a gold medal winner.
Seriously, I know you are consistent in this and you have a point, but only up to a point.
Fosun came in to Wolverhampton with all sorts of wild promises and proclamations and we haven’t done badly but they have also fallen way short of their grandiose claims.
There is no sign that anything is about to change dramatically on their recent lack of investment and if you are standing still you are going rapidly backwards in the PL; just take a look at the list of clubs queuing up behind us to take over our top half (just) position.
If they don’t play their cards right this time and open up the coffers enough this summer we’re in for a relegation battle next season.
There is nothing wrong with ambition, we want to WIN something. And none of us want to see a return to the mediocrity of the second tier.
Yeah PJB but ambition is a subjective aim. What is a success to one person is a failure to others. I think in relative terms the ambitions of Fosun have been quite well served. I do admit that this summer does need some attention. I don’t think Fosun are stupid enough to neglect things. So in that respect i agree with you. But i can only go on what 4 seasons in the premier league have delivered. And not too bad really !
Cheesy you frequently make lots of good posts , and funny ones too, but on this theme of what constitutes success I disagree. Look at Leicester- won the league and a cup and couple, possibly 3 European ventures to boot. I agree the top 6 is difficult to break but they did, so why not us? The only limiting factor here is Fosun’s ambition.
Fosun bought Wolves in 2016 and were, undoubtedly, full of ambition.
Since then, the Chinese government has started reining in all their major companies since Evergrande all-but collapsed owing billions of dollars.
We’ve had Covid which, thankfully, here in the UK, seems to have passed its worst but is still raging in many parts of the world.
Long before the Russians invaded Ukraine, a global recession was brewing and things are not going to get better any time soon.
Does anyone seriously believe that Fosun shouldn’t be re-assessing ALL it’s endeavours and adjusting?
With the finance companies calling in the debts, it looks likely that Burnley might not survive; Chelsea is on very dodgy ground with the Abramovich’s investments still not sorted. Man Utd, once the best run club in the world, is now in hock to American financiers.
Personally, I hope Fosun continue to run the club prudently. I can wait a little longer for European success; I’ve waited 60+ years.
We’ll be playing in the Premiership next season. There’ll be old and new names on the team sheet, but, it will still be Wolverhampton Wanderers playing.
In times to come, there’ll probably be new owners, but, the team will always be wearing Old Gold (even if you have to closely for it among the other colours).
Shit happens, things change, but, hopefully, there’ll always be a Wolves to support no matter what the division they’re playing in.
We differ only in degrees.
Nobody has a right to be in the PL but as Wolves supporters we have a right to a high level of expectation. Our history, our consistent level of support and catchment area / geographical base etc. and other factors give us a head start on all but the major city clubs who also don’t have the “one club city status” which made us attractive to Fosun in the first place – their comment not mine.
So we hold an awful lot of high cards compared with most clubs and can therefore allow ourselves high expectations. Anything less than top half PL with the odd trophy thrown in can be considered as relative failure on this basis. If Leicester City can win the PL title then so can we, or at least give it a bloody good shot.
And anything less leaves Fosun’s stewardship seriously in question as viable custodians of Wolverhampton Wanderers. As I have said so far so good but……
Surely the logical objective has at least to be to achieve their original claim of bridging the gap and competing regularly-with the established elite on a regular basis. Again their words not mine –
“regular participation in the Champions League”.
PJB, as Wolves supporters, we don’t have any “rights” at all.
We don’t even have the “right” to attend games.
Wolverhampton Wanderers is a limited company entirely in the hands of Fosun International.
You have only one choice in all this: give Fosun your money (be it for a match ticket, a replica shirt, etc) or don’t.
Wrong – we have a right to be Wolves SUPPORTERS whoever the custodians of the club. We have a separate right to withdraw our financial support at will. There are Wolves supporters all over the world who can hardly ever get to Molineux.
Only twice in over 60 years have I exercised the right to temporarily withdraw my physical / financial support on the grounds that tho custodians at the time (the owners) were abusing their position – the Bhattis and the last season of Steve Mogan’s tenure. It didn’t mean I wasn’t a supporter.
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is not just a limited company (more than one actually) but an institution which is part of many people’s social and cultural heritage often going back generations.
You are Fosuns wet dream fans like you…..because while there are fans like you happy just to be at the party they know they only have to meet your ambition just to be in the Premier League, you’ll never expect or ask for more just Mediocerty never set your sights any higher.
“Mediocerty”? What the fuck is that? Do you mean “mediocrity”?
You’re just a half-wit.
And, best of luck to PJB and his “rights” . . . . . howling at the moon, sunshine!
Are you Amanda Capewell in disguise?
Just got around to watching MOTD. Quite rightly took a several minutes singing the praises of the two outstanding teams of this season. Pity they could n’t find a few seconds to recognise the part played by Wolves (and Villa) for their contribution to the excitement of the final 45 minutes of the season.
Yes, Wolves and Villa gave the two best teams in the land a run for their money. All the more remarkable that Villa lost after being two goals up, but we know all about that experience. Mind you, we did it to Villa last September, so they must be used to it now.
That’s the 2021/2022 season for you. So near and yet so far…
I’d like to thank the twat that pressed the emergency button on the train yesterday evening for putting another 45 minutes on our journey time..
Let me know who you and I’ll pop around and give you your certificate..
‘Ere!
I saw you and Lilian in the background of dazzling dave’s post match report.
You’re famous you are!
Can I have your autograph?
Preferably on a blank cheque made out to cash.
I know … we were also snapped on the Nathan Judah video… so yes … if you need a selfie with us just say …
Who knows it could be the NTV awards next ..
Hey y’all! Been a lurker on this blog from across the pond the last 2-3 seasons. Started watching EPL and Bundesliga when they were the only sports on in 2020! Jumped on board with Wolves right away.
Wanted to give a shout out and thanks to all the bloggers and commenters here as y’all have really helped me understand the rich history of the club and the finer points of the game. Most little kids here play “soccer” at some point and my city has one of the biggest clubs in MLS but the knowledge I’ve gained here is on a whole other level!
Hope everyone has a great summer and let’s score some goals next season ffs!
Up the Wolves!
Alright dirty South, mate..
Good to know that the Wolves are alive and kicking over there.
Every country i wear my Wolves shirt i get people telling me that they have followed them for years.
Keep the faith and be lucky mate
Up the Wolves!
What part of the dirty south are you lurking?
ATL
Peace up A town Down!
Thanks, Thomas, for the write up. Excellent as always.
Yes, a missed opportunity by Wolves, particularly Fosun. I’m disappointed that they have ended up in 10th position, losing a few million in the process.
Still, I am proud of the way the whole team got stuck in at Liverpool. Maybe a bit of a hyperbole here but, whilst Wolves didn’t win the fight they gave them a bloody nose.
I’ll be sorry to see some of them go – particularly Neves, if that is what transpires – but Wolves do need a refresh. Change is good, so they tell me.
Finally, commiserations to Wolves Women on just missing out on promotion BUT congratulations to our Under 23s on doing just that by winning tonight.
Enjoy the break everyone.
News tonight Biden has said America will defend Taiwan if China attacks. Does this mean for Fosun.
Can’t be good news for Bruno or his transfer budget.
Ukraine has made it obvious that authoritarian intrusions into sovereign nations doesn’t make economic/political sense. Biden is probably making a calculated statement approved by Xi. But can Fosun at least give Leonardo Campana a try? He’s killing it for Inter Miami.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/recap-inter-miami-cf-2-atlanta-united-1
I read a while ago that Inter Miami have the option to buy Campana. If he keeps on scoring, he ain’t coming back. Hope I’m wrong about this.
The White House has contradicted Biden on this, yet again. The USA will not defend Taiwan militarily. It may be bluff and double bluff to confuse China.
So the big six are still the big six.
Thinking back to the beginning of the season, when we all dreamed of qualifying for the Champions League, and then the shitstorm about the top six buggering off to form their so called super league.
If they had gone, we would have finished fourth, and qualified for what?
Champions League?
A place at the top table, to play the top six?
Europa League?
Help me out here, I’m in a quandry as to what difference it really would have made.
The past two years has tilted the world askew, and normal isn’t coming back.
All the money grabbers and greed merchants are gonna get their come uppance, and hopefully football will return to some semblance of it’s grass roots, especially where player loyalty to club is concerned.
If that happens, Neves might just stay!
Oh, but so would Silva and Trincao and……………!
Time for bed, Zeberdee!
How do you Neves wants to leave rather than Shi low balling him so Fosun can make a 35 million profit? That has to be a wet dream in the making for Jeff.
Just watched this on Youtube.
Very impressive performance.
Well done lads.
Mini Wolves ay we!
dear doog ,
dont forget to put my fiver in a drawer for safe keeping,
regards spikey.
I think it’s safe mate!
Always a good watch, the U23’s. Better than the first team this last couple of months.
When the likes of West Ham and Manure were haemorrhaging points on the run in, I really thought Europa was there for taking – until our implosion at the same time.
But in a way, I’m glad we didn’t qualify for Europe, in case it was used as justification for not having to change anything. “Do we need a new striker, midfielder etc – no, because we qualified for Europe” etc.
And on the subject of money, when a club can give a guy $150m for simply signing on and staying where he is, the world truly has gone mad.
I can’t see us ever really breaking in to the top 4, top 6 possibly, but not the top 4. Europa yes, but Champions League, I doubt it.
Still, we’ll never see the guys training on the car park, or be travelling to Chorley again
Well, Telford, you’re more glass half-full than glass half-empty, and philosophical about our prospects too. It’s probably the best way for a Wolves fan to keep sane these days.
I see that Coady is in the England squad for the Nations League matches. That’s one saving grace after our recent miserable run. It’s also an attractive selling point when we are trying to buy players.
We have a crucial transfer window and new season coming up at this midway point in the Fosun ten year plan. This has to be make or break season for Fosun. Either go for it, or sell us. There’s plenty of buyers, especially Yanks, that fancy competing in the best league in the world. For a fraction of what it would cost to buy Chelsea, they can buy a potentially world class brand in Wolves.
Telford..you’re right about money and football.
I’ve loved the entire journey but moreso in the leagues below the top.
Actually got a ticket back then and most of the squad were from the UK.
I remember the games we were chanting ‘England ‘
Couldn’t do that now…
Everything changes, some naturally..others by the introduction of money ? and lots of it.
Just glad to have felt part of the club back then..before we became ‘customers ‘
Utw
AAAAnd finally !!!
a cracking end to and underachieving season .
Pees me off the way it all petered out just as the others gave us golden open door opportunity but i suppose their supporters were just as peed off as .
OK good points :- top half finish ..just…finished above the vile…superb…manc utd were shite…good…albion were total shite…better than good…and sonia and i met up with some of the bloggers at long last….very very good.
To one and all enjoy the summer dont get too enraged when fosun sell up because it will be to a yank with gazzillions who doesnt mind spending some of it but keep your expectations of doing a man city under control because it will only lead to a vallium addiction and who would want to be on that stuff like the poor little scousers who cant win everything booh hoo.
Im sure we will have plenty to blog about over the coming months .
see you all then .
I too hope Fosun yank a Yank into the frame. Going by the consortium buying my local club Chelsea, there’s a wall of serious Yankee money out there, where ‘soccer’ is concerned. The Yank mob buying Chelsea for £4bn have had to agree to redevelop Stamford Bridge (that’s a cool billion or so), plus. they can’t take a penny in dividends or management fees for ten years, plus they can’t sell their shares in the club for ten years. Plus, Thomas Tuchel has a long list of target signings to finance! Ouch. So, what are the Yanks getting out of the deal? Nothing for at least ten years? It’s a bottomless pit to throw money into, that’s what it is. I hope the Directors’ Box hospitality is worth it.
The prestige of owning a top club in the best league in the world is attractive enough for the above sacrifices it seems. It’s not as though Wolves are not in the same league as Chelsea. Fosun have a golden and saleable asset on their hands.
Yes mate it all sounds too daft an investment to be true but the yanks with the dough all seem to piss in the same pot its like a private club where someone does something and they all join in its happened in my game which is the supply of motor spares and accessories where nearly if not all the big boys are now owned by yankee hedge funds.
The one thing i would say is American sports investors love franchises so its my guess the euro super league will be back on the cards in the not too distant future whether the fans like it or not.
I dont see us being invited being owned by the Chinese could be an interesting summer.
And of course doogooderwould owe me a fiver !
So our late slide from a virtually guaranteed 8th in the PL to a just top half 10th has apparently cost the club £4.4 million in lost place money – not an amount to be sneezed at and I can’t see it exactly enhancing Fosun’s view of Bruno in spite of virtually nil backing he has been given,
Meanwhile the anticipated transfer activity seems unlikely to set our pulses racing.
Yet we need serious refreshment in the squad. And if Fosun want to maintain their investment (WWFC currently valued at well over £300 million) I would strongly suggest it’s in their own interests to reinvest all incoming transfer fees and then some on high quality, seasoned professionals to replace departures.
Ruddy, Saiss, Marcal and Neves are almost certain to go.
Moutinho is likely to go. Not as bad as it might seem as probably all but the last two can be covered from within. Additionally Trincao and Traore are also almost certainly also on their way.
So that said we shall stilbe left with virtually no midfield and a misfiring strike force which can only muster a goal a game.
I would argue that we shall only be left with Neto as a genuine PL starter to fill the front 5/6 positions though I believe Semedo could be utilised to good effect in midfield. But with Dedoncker, Podence, Silva, Hwang and now Jiminez little more than fringe players this leaves a massive rebuild needed and the funds to finance it. If we manage to sell Neves we should raise at least £50 million in cash and maybe £15-20 million for Traore if we’re lucky, but, the rest will leave for nothing. But please no Barcelona or eg Man Utd kids as makeweights
The squad is already well short on numbers and £70 million will not buy a midfield and forward line which will improve on our goal a game return from this season. The “ones for the future” policy apart from Neto has yielded nothing and must therefore be considered an abject failure.
From where I’m sitting maybe it isn’t Bruno Lage’s job that should be under scrutiny but that of Jeff Shi. Unless that is he has around an extra £100 million up his sleeve in the transfer budget, because if he hasn’t the cupboard looks very bare.
Out of the Darkness etc.
Rarely can the club’s motto have been more badly needed to come into play.
To the anonymous downvoters perhaps you could come out and let us know where and why you disagree, because at the moment things don’t look too great. At least have the guts to state your case.
How dare you call me annoyingmouse!
I am sometimes a downbuttoner, and sometimes the opersit.
This blog is excellent, but also ripe for clockwork mice.
They’ve been around since the site’s inception, and you are now a, albeit reluctant, member and a clockwork mouse.
Wind you up and off you go!!
I treat this blog and all who sail in her with respect, mostly, but also as a bit of fun.
Life is way too short to get pissed off at football, and other pissed off bloggers.
Have some fun, take the piss, enjoy the retorts, and laugh, a lot!
I do.
Happy Memorial Day, folks.
At least some words of wisdom in your last four lines Micky and give my best to Minnie.
Thanks, Goofy!
Seems to be a woke intruder of probably ‘jonny come lately ‘ family.
To be clear…..this is a blog of differing opinions ,sometimes so random that it rubs someone up the wrong way but ultimately we all love the Wolves.
If it offends you, please feel free to return to watching Peppa Pig on Netflix.
I think those “negatives” are probably coming from a troll-farm in the basement of Fosun HQ.
I’m sure Guo Guangchang will be doing all he can to frustrate a mighty speaker-of-truth such as yourself .
Just to set out my stall.
I don’t downvote.
I don’t boo Wolves, ever.
I don’t leave matches early if we are losing.
Obviously I feel able to criticise on this blog when justified and always, I hope, constructively. Feel free to correct me if I step out of line!
Pjb
I have to admit that I didn’t like your post.
Not that I don’t respect it, I know that you’re a big wolves fan so we are on the same side.
I didn’t like it because I’ve read it possibly a dozen times , it’s boring,
If I were to respond, as you request, then my response would become just as boring , what’s the point!
Maybe the cupboard isn’t very bare!
Maybe Jeff doesn’t need a 100 million up his sleeve,
Maybe take a walk ‘ on the bright side of the road’( v m)
Let’s just wait and see .
Massive thanks to Thomas for the blog, the Ben’s , for your supporting acts and also Paddy , even though I generally disagree with almost everything you say( smiling emoji) I fully appreciate your time and energy in producing this blog .
Enjoy your summer
Till next season
Come on you wolves
Marney
You responded – good.
I don’t expect everyone or even anyone to agree with me. Isn’t that what open forums are supposed to be about?
I would take issue on one point though. If you found it so boring why on earth did you read it a dozen times?
He’s Number One, he’s Top of the Pops. Wolves keeper Sa was the best shot stopper this past season. I wonder where we would have been without him? Link:
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/football/ranking-premier-league-goalkeepers-by-how-many-goals-they-prevented-in-2021-22-season/ar-AAXJ92s?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=U531&cvid=6ed85671f4f64f87ef12d30900a794cc
Good link Dances, doesn’t bear thinking about our end of season position without Jose. During the current round of hand wringing about Fosun’s will they/ won’t they invest heavily this summer it is wise to look back upon the positives too. We can build around Jose Sa, Kilman, Toti, Aitnouri, Semedo, Cody, Jonny, Podence, Neto. We clearly do have major holes to fill in midfield and at Centre forward but when you’ve been supporting Wolves for 60 years the future looks pretty rosy to me.
I’m with you Woodend, much to be optimistic about, and I’m already looking forward to, and excited about, next season.
Hope you don’t mind being dragged down into my “mediocerty” ;0)
No, not at all WTF.!
I’m on the same page as you, can’t wait for next season and the challenges it will present.
Thomas and team,
Now that we are between seasons, is it viable to have a “transfer rumours” thread, or something of this nature, to keep us amused? I know the international matches are coming up but I am more interested in Wolves news. The transfer window opens next Wednesday, and it is a crucial one for us. There are other sites like Express & Star etc but there’s only one Wolves blog. I know you need to get your bucket and spade out for your hols, but a lot will happen at Wolves before the players return for preseason in July.
Scousers causing trouble in Paris???
No!
Never happen!
Best supporters in the world!
If the cap fits…………
Hillsborough all over again.
Only most of them are from Surrey.
J.c.
I don’t like to admit it but tbh, every club in the Premierleague would probably have the same story in the next days paper.
We all carry these sort of fans who have the ability to embarrass the clubs at every opportunity.
Especially once we enter the Premierleague
Did the deed yesterday. Got the season ticket 22/23. Anyone see the cumulative 3 year VAR table since inception? Guess who was bottom by a long long way ? We were minus 10. Next up was minus 4. Then all a bit middling. Any wonder we get so f**ked off with it. We KNOW we are being screwed over.
Take a big big bow .. JOHN MOSS.
I’m certainly not bothered who got promoted from the championship but Mossy has just denied Huddersfield TWO big penalty decisions to level the scores…
It’s an absolute disgrace that a game with £170 million riding in it is left to the whim of a complete and useless referee…
Yep. Forest got the VAR today. Let’s see how they get on at Anfield Old Trafford Stamford Bridge with the f**kin shit next season . Good luck.
Oh look someone disagrees. Do enlighten us ?
Cheesey mate
We’ve got a bug on the blog.
I’d like a vote on removing the dislike button personally.
What do I know?
Well i am not bothered. But i will say if someone doesn’t agree then they should say why. I love this blog. I will come on and say if I don’t like summat. And i don’t mind if anyone doesn’t agree with me. It’s absolutely fine. Don’t hide away !!
Thumbs up from me and I get plenty of downvotes!
I disagree. I thought he got both decisions spot on.
It’s good to be back, even though I forgot how nice Norway was.
This was the geezer who awarded a penalty against Moutinho at Citeh. Probably forgiveable but what wasn’t was VAR unable to overturn it what a f**king joke.
Brompton, the Huddersfield player seemed to be clipped and theatrically went down. It looked either a yellow card or a weak penalty. The second incident was 50/50 as in “I’ve seen ’em given”, so I can’t argue. It’s a shame that a match with so much at stake should be marred by casual penalty decisions from a controversial ref in his final match. That said, the thought of either team playing in the PL next season didn’t impress me. Congrats to Forest though, but they will have to spend big and wisely. I hear they’re after MGW, but he would be foolish to move there. Steve Cooper has emulated Roy Keane’s achievement at Sunderland but I fear it will pan out the same way.
I agree DWW that both incidents could be deemed soft penalties had they been given but the second was more nailed on because the Forest defender didn’t touch the ball… touched the Huddersfield player.. so there was contact…
Moreover no VAR..
I’ve seen Bruno Fernandez eek out penalties for less contact..
There’s just no consistency either in the decision making or the referral to VAR.
Nice to see Brompto’, but I couldn’t live there. Too cold, too wet and the beer is far too expensive.
Great people though. ?
I thought that the first was a dive but that the second was a penalty and, at the very least, the VAR official should have asked Moss to take a look at the touchline monitor. Yet another failing in the VAR rules.
Looking at the Liverpool situation from yesterday. This is a stadium that has hosted countless six nations rugby union games, autumn internationals against the likes of Australia NZ and South Africa. A football world cup final and probably loads of France internationals/ domestic cup finals. Seems a bit strange that a load of pissed up English scum bags make it all seem like it is a complete and utter shambles.
I disagree 100%.
I think you are doing are grave disservice to scum bags every where by likening them to those scouse amoeba.
And I didn’t touch the dislike button once, Mr. Dean, honest I didn’t!
Welcome back, Brompto.
Is it difficult pitching a tent on the side of a fjord?
Or a Chevrolet?
No not if the levy is dry
Thanks, Don, may your teeth be ever white!
Who has renewed their season ticket?
Did mine on Friday. Another season of North Bank heaven…….
Still undecided cheese. Have to make a decision soon though.
In my case it’s Chelsea and I’m still undecided…Final deadline day in April was made redundant by the sanctions, but some fans had already renewed. I’m hoping the new owners give concessions.
Decided.
See you next season.
Wolves ay we.
I have too.
So…..
No major investment then..
With an overstretched squad and fans on the verge of mutiny and villa on our heels.
Hope we don’t end up the wrong end of the table.
Goodbye and thank you for everything that you gave to our football club Romain Saiss.
Couldn’t agree more Ian. Always gave his all and did it with a smile on his face. ?
Good luck for the future Romain.
With barely seconds to go before the final whistle, theDOOGooder performed his trade mark drop of the shoulder, completely wrong footing the glamorous defender who was barring his way to the keyboard with a glass of Remi, and hit the ‘send’ button.
The metaphorical ball nestled neatly in the equally metaphorical net with not a drop spilt.
The all to unmetaphorical (?) money, disappeared from my rapidly diminishing bank account.
Result!
Season tickets bought.
Just waiting for VAR to make sure that there wasn’t a hand involved in the build up.
‘all too’
I just hate the misuse of the word ‘to’ (two, too, tutu, twotyfruity).
And putting apostrophe’s in the wrong places’.
Please accept my apologie’s.
Anxious about the apostrophe? Confused by the comma? Stumped by the semicolon? Perplexed by punctuation?
Well m’learned friend, you’ve no doubt heard about the very amusing book called Eats, Shoots and Leaves. Written by former football journalist, Lynne Truss. But the book has nothing to do with football…
You left that late, and I thought I was being indecisive!
We both couldn’t say no though, could we!
dont worry tooooo much doog i may be sending you a fiver towards your tickets to ease the pain !!
Don’t do it Spikeyboy…
The DOOG’s drank more Brandy than’s ever been spilt in the cognac factories of Martell, Hennessy, Courvoisier and Remy combined….
He don’t waste o droplet…
Guess what came today?
Molineux here I come.
Goodbye Marcal, thank you for everything that you did for our football club, so that’s Ruddy, Saiss and now Marcal, is anyone else worried about where we are heading ?
No
Apart from Honestly….. another poster who hides, my post was actually supposed to be a positive. A goalkeeper that never plays, a defender that is always injured, a midfielder that has probably played his best in a Wolves shirt and probably over £100,000 a week in wages saved. I have every confidence in the people running our club.
Called thinning out the dead wood I suppose. Sarkic will make a perfectly good No2, Toti can do a job in a back four, and Marcal has three excellent backs ahead of him in the squad.
Gives us time and space and dough to spend on the areas that need it.
You asked “is anyone else worried about where we are heading ?”
I can’t speak for the anyone else on here so I just answered for myself; honestly! No, I’m not worried where we’re heading.
I’m more concerned about how my kids are going to heat their homes and feed my grandkids this winter than I am about how many £millions Fosun will or will not spend in the transfer market this summer.
That isn’t because I don’t care about Wolves; I do, passionately. But, I can’t influence who Jeff and co decide to sell, or who they approach to play for us, or who is willing to sign to play for us.
So I’ll restrict my worrying to those things I can affect.
If Wolves get relegated next season it might be down to poor investment, or that 17 other teams played better than us, or VAR, or bad refereeing. If we qualify for European football, if might be down sound investment, or that 14 other teams were worse than us, or VAR, or bad refereeing . . . . . . . . . We’ll know in about 11 months time. The one thing I can be sure about is, whatever happens, it won’t be down to anything I do.
Now, I’m going to bugger off for the summer and leave PJB and his ilk to scream and scream until they’re sick at not getting everything they want.
I’ll be back at the beginning of August to make the occasional remark (never to be taken too seriously).
I hope EVERYONE enjoys their summer.
I think we will all have a better idea by the end of June, as Lage said he wants to have a decent preseason with the squad. There are so many rumours and paper talk, I think we will have to wait and see who signs on the dotted line. I’m hoping my anticipation and excitement for this transfer window is matched by some good signings. With the real possibility of Neves and Traore leaving, along with a couple of others, we could have a transfer budget of around £90m. Lage has intimated that he would like 4 or 5 new signings. We will see.
I guess thats another World Cup final that the jocks will not be able to attend.
With deer, possums, snakes and the odd skunk for neighbors, it is easy to sit and fantasize whilst mowing the country estate, on my albion coloured tractor, blue and white, covered in shite.
We all have our favorite actors/actresses, and sometimes fantasies thereof, but extremely rarely would we, I think, try telling said fave what role to take or who to act with.
Their life, their money, their decisions.
Same with football, up until the latter part of last century, just another form of entertainment, an escape from the hum drummery of a sometimes mundane, 9-5 existence.
So why does so much social media space now get filled with pointless speculation, who’s going, coming, or standing still?
What’s so and so worth?
Who says he is?
And all the calling for ever increasingly ridiculous amounts to be spent on mediocrity?
Fosun’s money to spend how they want, not ours.
However this summer’s transfer window pans out, I will support whoever turns out in Old Gold and Black.
Thanks to all the guys leaving, but no thanks, you’re not quite good enough to move us forward.
Welcome to incomers, you’ve got some big boots to fill.
I used to think Peter Knowles was the most gifted player I’ve ever seen playing for us.
If Ruben leaves, I hope it is for the same reason Knocker left us.
I would hate seeing him in any other team’s colours.
Except Portugal.
The point I am trying to make is let’s wait and see what transpires, before jumping down Jeff’s throat.
Ah, well back to the agents, I mean snakes!
See if I can squish a few more.
Ruben Neves is one of the best players to have graced Molineux in my time watching Wolves (62+ years) and he has been a great servant; it’s now come to the point where Fosun’s ambitions no longer match his abilities and don’t warrant further loyalty. He has given his all for 5 seasons and deserves to play at a higher level than we can currently offer.
For me the best realistic outcome is that he moves overseas to ply his trade so that the only way he will play against us is if we qualify for Europe again.
But whatever his future good luck Ruben – a true Wolves great and the lynchpin of our return from over 3 decades of relative obscurity and mediocrity.
As for other comings and goings as you say let’s wait and see, but for me with some trepidation as early signs point to more outgoings than incomings and possibly again with a good sprinkling of more “ones for the future”. And without serious investment this summer mediocrity or worse is right back on the menu.
Listened to Scoot Sellars on Ask Wolves………anyone think jeff is going to invest in a bigger better squad forget it…….according to Scott we don’t need to because we have the Acadamy and we have top Premier League players.
He doesn’t believe if we had a bigger better squad it would have helped Bruno get into Europe.
Dribble absolute dibble Fosun expect the fans to cough up on price rises for season ticket but they won’t cough up when it comes to investing in the team
We are just a logo to Fosun a front to raise there profile nothing else they are not interested in the team.
Fed up of the corporate bull shit from Jeff & Co: his latest brain wave is to float the club on the stock market he will come out with anything that doesn’t mean Fosun have to invest really don’t know why the fuck they brought Wolves.
Fuck me I thought Sealars was bad just listened to Jeff he’s more interested in fans around the world than in his words ” the local fans ” that s why Molinuex is not being expanded Fosun not interested in the real fans you know those that live in the city where the club was founded.
Utter contempt for the real fans. If you want more fans to notice and support Wolves Jeff ever thought that may be investing in the team and winning a trophy do you think that might get more fans world wide moe exposure ……no well it seems to have worked for let’s see Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea band Man City……
Seems Fosun are just USING the brand Wolves fc for their gain.
Only time will tell what their plans are but at this rate I won’t hold my breath.
Its their club but please don’t treat the fans as just customers.
Just sell the club and move on.
They don’t even think of us as customers – just a minor revenue stream.
It’s a sorry story isn’t it pjb?
At the start it was so exciting….
Now I’m extremely nervous.
Who’s going to want to come to the wolves when they know just how little investment is n the table
I see the phantom ‘fairy’ dislike button pusher is at it again
What a complete wuss!
Place your differing opinion on the table instead of being invisible.
Say why you disagree instead of hiding.
I’ll second that.
“Phantom fairy dislike button pushers” as you describe them are either too yellow bellied to be identified or too illiterate to write a reply.
Suggestion for the administrator(s) – remove the dislike button so that dissenters have to make a proper contribution or none at all; button pushing is the lazy option.
Better yet, start another blog, with a passcode to get on, so it is not hijacked by only a couple of bloggers.
But this is already an open (to all)forum so can’t be hijacked.
Here is the Pnews.
Well, I’m pretty pee’ed-off with pomp and pageantry, pampered, privileged parasites, princes and princesses, paedophiles and philanderers, partygate, pandemics, PPE, pesky Putin, Priti Patel, platinum parties with pork pies (mus’be melton mowbray) and chops, Klopp’s flops, boarded-up shops, … whoops got side-tracked there! … I’m pooped.
Now, for Palhinha? Portuguese, powerful player with potential, priced-right. A snip, snap him up, pronto!
Potentially pretty popular post pal.
Excellent mate. I too am fed up of having the monarchy shoved down my throat. I get sick and tired of the use of terms like ‘amazing’ ‘ selfless’ ‘extraordinary’. Anyone can ride around in a back of a carriage and wave out of the window. Historically linked in to the class system and the misery that brings . Merely serves to prolong the status quo and ensure the aristocracy are kept in place with all the wealth and privilege in tact. But whilst we are on about the Wolves from what I read players will be moved on and the proceeds re invested in to reshaping the squad. Don’t really see much wrong with that. You can’t hold on to players forever. So It’s God Save The Queen from me. We are the flowers in the dustbin.
God save the queen……..we mean it man…..she an’t no human being…just a figure head.
Best lyrics ever written by a very astute and switched on 18 year old……his name John Lydon aka Jonny Rotton.
Good to see The Kuntz are challenging for number one spot with Ed Sheeran. The excellent ‘ Prince Andrew is a sweaty nonce’ deserves to be number 1 in my book !
I think I’ve got pnews-monia, reading this.
Can’t wait for qnews, we can then have a go at the queen, oh! too late! cheeseburger already has!
Love it Mr Wishfart. (Or Miss, of course).
Wolverhampton Wanderers belongs to the people of Wolverhampton first and foremost Fosun have been the gauidians for 6 years of the last 139 years of our football club how dare they dis is that history and bond between the town and its people just to further there ends.
Wankers fuck off back to where you crawled out from….the people of Wolverhampton will continue to support THERE club when Fosun and fucked off…..hopefully sooner the better.
Don’t you think five successful years in the top flight for the first time in 50/60 years is something to celebrate ? Or is it not good enough? Perhaps we should be PSG instead. What a load of bollocks. Thing is newspapers pick up on things like this and say ‘Wolves fans are pissed off’ when really it is a minority of 2018 happy clappers who are still fed up about Jota going ages ago. Get a fuckin life .
So what your saying is the ends justify the means…….I’m no happy clapper you may have sold out for Premier League football that up to you as I say it doesn’t matter what league Wolves are in the real fans will be there will the fans in China what real connection do they have…….none.
If you had understood my blog, my point is the fans ” local fans ” that have been here all those years should be put first like building a stadium to be proud of have you seen the out side of the Steve Bull recently.
And there are a lot of fans not a minority that feel the same.
Sell your soul to the devil if you want to…..but there’s alway a price to pay.
‘Building a stadium to be proud of’.
Isn’t that something that comes with success on the pitch and financial security? If it doesn’t matter what league Wolves are in, according to real Wolves fans, where is the money for the new stadium to come from?
You’ve said it in your own words ” success on the PITCH ” which means investment in the team……not putting the wolfs head on anything and everything to sell Fosun other products like computer games and records.
Listen I don’t give a shit about Fosuns other ” Projects” was does concern me is the use of Wolves name heritage and history to benefit them tat the expense of the ” local fans” and the football team.
They seem to have lost complete interest in the football side of the club the very reason it was started 139 years ago.
Sell up and find an owner who is interested in building a team not a brand at the expense of the team.
COD
Think you miss the point a little; yes 5 years in the top flight is well worth celebrating but this ongoing lack of investment in players will not continue to sustain it. And a net spend of £200 million over 5 years is well below the going rate to do so.
Also why shouldn’t we be pissed off over Jota – maybe you should be more so.
It’s not a privilege to be in the Premier League, it’s our rightful place.
Yes PJB. But i can only go on the noises coming out of the club including Bruno. Players will be sold and money reinvested in reshaping the squad. I have also said on here many many times it is not in the interests of Fosun in any way shape or form to NOT have Wolves in the Premier League. As a succesful global investment company I am sure they rrcognise that fact and take action as appropriate to ensure our continued presence in the top flight. And I mean no one on here any bad feeling. It’s good to get it all out there ! All the best.
If Fosun “can’t afford” to invest in the team why on earth would they in the stadium.
We are probably going to lose around half a dozen senior players this summer and there is little sign that many will be replaced on a like for like basis let alone upgraded.
And please no more “let’s wait and see” posts we’ve been doing that for 2/3 years now and have never even tried seriously to replace Jota. Just watch out for Jeff’s next batch of “ones for the future” folks.
Think we should not get ruffled feathers until maybe later
If you are looking for a diversion from the jubilee and the end of the season or getting irate at down clicking on this blog then try streaming “The Orville” sci-fi written and starring Seth MacFarlane (family guy).
Best way to describe it is Star Trek with toilets, Seth is the captain of a space ship and the first officer is his ex-wife so plenty of comedy.
Try streaming at vumoo.vip using a web browser like “brave” but ensure you have a virus checker running just in case.
Just thought of a new chant for this blog
“ Are you paulad67 in disguise?”
Come on, own up!
Amanda Capewell comes to mind also. This blog is becoming extremely boring with repetitive moans about the current owners and repeated changes in Bloggers titles. It’s not clever, funny or informative. I’m signing off now to the new season starts. Have a good summer break everyone!
I thought we still had free speech in this country.
If you only want to hear peoples views that are the same as yours why don’t you start your own blog
Great idea mate. I may well join you.
I run my life along the lines of ”if I can’t afford it, I can’t have it ”.
Many football clubs have spent their way to brief success, only to crash and burn when the money runs out. Hence FFP.
I want Fosun to build the brand and thus the income generated. In time, with luck, some of these funds will be available to push for even greater success for our club.
All Mr Shi was saying is that relying on local fans to generate enough cash to challenge the global brands dominating the PL would be ridiculous. FFP prevents Chairman Guo simply slipping us a few hundred mill out of his small change.
In these unpredictable times, sustainability is the watchword.
Well FFP didn’t stop Chelsea getting into £1.5 Billion in debt or Man City owing there owner a similar amount.
Premier League or UEFA did stop them or Utd peeing there owner a small fortune that could run a third world country.
The simple fact is if the product on the field is bad how is stick our club logo on everything and anything going to generate more fans and revenue.
A convenient excuse
FFP doesn’t apply to “the big 6”.
Nor apparently to Barcelona who “can’t afford” Traore but somehow can afford Ruben Neves.
Largely to be progressed through player swaps, if I understand correctly.
We don’t want 3 Barcelona kids as makeweights for Neves thanks.
FFP is relative to your financial position. Wolves are still finding our feet. What was that I saw Man Utd revenue 1000% greater than Wolves. They are man Utd. We are Wolves. They have been in the prem since 1992 (and before) we have been there since 2018.They are a global phenomenon. We are a provincial club from the Black Country. We have to live within our means. Hence FFP.
I am aware of the FFP rules which are deliberately slanted in favour of the “super clubs” who then treat them with disdain anyway and get away with it.
FFP does apply. It is just that they have a greater weight of financial sustainability. Hence they can buy Pogba for 90 million quid for example. And what a turd he is for that money !
And why do they have a greater financial stability……..because.
Chelsea have won…….!
5 Premier League titles.
5 F.A. Cup wins
2 European Cup wins
1 Europe Leage Win
3 League Cups
1 world Club Championship
No shit they have greater financial stability…..just think of all the fans over the world they have attracted not to mention the ” Chelsea brand.
Fuck me it ain’t rocket science…….winning things brings revenue and greater exposure to new markets and sponsors.
Because they are worth millions and millions more than Wolves. That’s why.
Fuck me……..I give up you can lead a horse to water.
Tell you what you carry on deceiving yourself…..I pity you I really do you just don’t have the capacity to understand.
Perhaps you could name the “many clubs who have bought success an crashed and burned”. Man City / United, Chelsea (apparently not), PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus etc. Sanctions????? Depends how deep the owners’ pockets are.
Uefa is dominated by the very few. Super League, seeding and every other trick in the book is being attempted to maintain the status quo..
Don’t be naive, watch this space as more yankee franchise wannabees take over European football and turn it into an American style closed shop and line their own pockets a la MUFC and Liverpool.
Different in those days mate.
Any way. More immediate matters. England need 61 runs to win the first test v NZ. And Joe Root is still there. Either way it will be all over by lunch tomorrow. Knowing our fragile batting it could be all over by 11.30. !
Could be a very exciting morning though. Jimmy Anderson to score the winning run.
I think you are right there mate. Ive got a feeling this willl go down to the wire.
One of the most laughable things I have seen amongst the ‘fans’ is Fosun are forcing Bruno to play Hwang. I seem to remember Fosun were also telling Bruno to lose games so as NOT to qualify for Europe. I have seen some fucking shit in my time. Fuckin hell.
I bet you were one of those numpties who believed Sir Jack saved the Wolves.
ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
What a bloke.
What a win!
Never in doubt.
Great bloke, great batsman (sorry batter), hopeless captain.
Good to gave you back where you belong, just batting at no4 for England.
As Queenie tucks into another marmalde sandwich, having waved a gracious ‘sod off’ to her own Platypus celebrations on Friday, fearing perhaps that Sir Rod was going to do a hatchet job on ‘Sweet Caroline’, and that was a butchering of American High School proportions, we wonder how we are going to fill the void till the whole kit gets kicked off again next year when She was actually crowned. Hope someone sent her a copy of The Kuntz – ‘Prince Andrew is a Sweaty Nonce’ to cheer her up. (Cheers CoD)
Root got us over the line in the test. Transfer rumours abound. Captain Coady saved us from a battering in Budapest. Trent sent some corners awry, deadball not good enough. Soft pen, Jarrod Bowen MotM.. Why don’t we sign that Hungarian striker?
Down to business. This is Wales opportunity to qualify for a World Cup! The Scots looked underdogs at Hampden and UK played a blinder. Even Ally’s Army clapped them off the pitch. Class. As a wolf of Welsh heritage I would love to see the Dragons dominate and get the win at home, but fear the momentum and pure fighting spirit is with UK. Lets hope they’re still a bit crackered.
1 lv & COYW.
Well, Wales rode their luck, didn’t they.
Ex Wolves ‘keeper man of the match and ex Wolves player co-commentator.
You’ve got to feel sorry for Ukraine, who were much the better team, but – just as present Wolves players struggle with – couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
