All Premier League victories are sweet but this was an all inclusive golden ticket day out at the chocolate factory.
And not just because it was Villa. But partly because it was Villa.
More satisfying for me though was just seeing the team deliver in those clutch moments.
Clawing back that deficit is a fair old mountain to climb for any team, but for our goal shy team of nearly men it seemed like Everest.
But climb it they did, pinning Villa back and somehow playing through them when they had every single player defending their own 18 yard box.
Neves, Podence and Traore all did some excellent work to engineer angled balls through the gaps and in a pleasant change of pace, our battering rams forced it home.
First it was Saiss and then Kilman, Dendoncker and finally Coady drawing us level through sheer force of will.
Bloody marvellous.
And then with both teams still throwing punches, it was Wolves who found the glory moment.
Traore extracted that final drop of petrol in the tank to win the free kick and a stuffy deflection only cancelled out their stuffy deflection for McGinn’s goal. No complaints please.
Even before Danny Ings opened the scoring, it had been an absorbing contest in which both sides had their say.
For Wolves, Traore would have had a Goals of the Season contender had he been able to finish his dinner and Hwang saw a very presentable opening blocked by Mings in what was a poor afternoon for the South Korean.
Villa perhaps had the greater cohesion but that’s not entirely surprising given Bruno’s experimental team selection.
I suspect had we not performed the late miracle he would have been getting some serious pelters for playing Dendoncker in an advanced position and leaving plenty of attacking talent on the sidelines.
As it is, everything came together but I wouldn’t want to see Raul sitting it out too often in future as we’re not cute enough to operate without someone leading the line.
Today is not for questions though – just sit down, grab a fork and savour every delicious moment.

When they went 1-0 up I was also hoping for no more but immediately heard myself chanting “come on me babbies”. When their second went in I was also gutted as my prediction league 3 points were gone, but I was still on for 2. Pissed off that we had lost tbh but after all I did predict a loss so should not have felt like I did. Then …… Saiss, Coady and Neves off Targett happened ….. boom. No PL points feel much better when you win. Come on me babbies.

At two goals down, I was really only hoping for a consolation goal to garner a little excitement.

Pre match I commented that apart from the 1960 FA Cup semi final I couldn’t call to mind any memorable games against Villa. Well I can now!!!!. Well up there with all the other comebacks I’ve seen down the years. And that first goal – not one but two slide rule passes to split the packed defence wide open. Great.

Whether we deserved the win overall is irrelevant. We’ve lost several games we deserved to win this season and any team that can stage such an amazing comeback from such a hopeless situation deserves to take the points.
I said to Jayney when the first went in that the Vile defenders would be living on their nerves. And so it proved.
Pocket rocket Podence was a marvel and transformed the match. MOTM for me.
Kilman, Semedo, Coady, in fact all of them. They got the bit between their teeth and would not be denied.

What this victory was all about was character and belief. The willingness to fight and not to give it up, as would many teams in such circumstances, was simply inspirational
And let`s not underestimate the quality that we showed in getting the result. No hoofing long hopeful balls down the middle. The Sainz goal was a masterpiece of quality football which broke down a massed defence
And finally, let`s not forget just how important was this victorty to our players. The celebrations of Sainz, Coady, Nevez et al, gives a true indication of how important to them is the success of our team. With commitment like this our future looks very bright.

A question. We`re two down and looking poor. Defeat beckons. We have Raul, one of the best strikers in the world on the bench. So Bruno makes his subs. Raul stays on the bench, and unbelievably the useless Silva takes the field. Silva, unlikley to score if he plays from now until the end of the season.

I don’t know Mike, do you think it might have something to do with Raul still working his way back from a horrific injury and Bruno deciding to rest him, as he had flown to Mexico and El Salvador and played in three international games in the last week and only just arrived back in the UK?

I don’t think that’s the case. He scored two goals for the Portuguese U-23 team (I think he had two assists as well). If he continues to bang in goals for the national u-23’s, he’ll probably be a hot name on shortlists for any Spanish, Italian and Portuguese top teams. Sometimes it takes time to adjust to the high standards of the Premier league. It’s kind of nice to know we currently have the best player in the world (in his age group ;=).
You may be right about Silva but don’t you think Raul might have been a touch knackered after his exploits over the past two weeks? Perhaps Bruno was in a slightly better position than yourself to make the call on Raul’s contribution. He should now be fresh to take on Leeds.

Might I suggest you scroll through the comments on the previous blog that were being made whilst the game was still being played, on this blog and other social media formats.
It is a game of 90 minutes plus time added on. A point Dean Smith made after the game.
Free speech, yes absolutely everyone is entitled to their opinions, but for goodness sake, have the decency to wait until the final whistle blows.
As for ageing well – my comment is doing a bit better the ones I referred to.

I didn’t mean it as a targeted statement, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I was trying to say, its not Undignified – 3 wins on the bounce, Yes – all by 1 goal against arguably some of the worst teams in the prem, We lucked out against Villa – If that hadn’t of happened EVERYONE would of been calling for Bruno’s head because the Performance was utter utter shocking.
Now it does take the sting out of it, that we got the result, but it was the worst 80 minutes of football I have seen from this team in years. There was no synergy, no commitment, no fight. We sat back and tried to counter attack… against VILLA, 5 foot nothing Danny Ings, Beats both of our 6ft Center halves to a headed goal… Embarrassing – this after Mc Ginn made Marcal spin in his own circle – Villa are a poor poor side but out played us for 80minutes – and if it wasn’t for Sa, we would of been 3 or 4 down….
At least when Nuno did this, it was the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, United…. And we took points from all of them.
We have beat teams we are supposed to be beating, but none of them have been convincingly. I guess this doesn’t really matter when we get the result, but to say people are “appearing foolish” is not a fair assessment In my opinion.
Bruno had an idea for 3 games, didn’t get the result and is now banking on Nuno’s set up. Rather then forcing the football he wants. First 3 games, our xG rate was only beaten by Liverpool… in our Last 3, there’s only 3 teams below it.
It’s a slipy slope, We have Leeds and Everton next…. They are not great, but I don’t see anything other then 2 losses after that first 80 minutes.

Jiminez not starting!?!? Imagine the backlash if we had lost. Jiminez starting was a no brainer after the last two games but there’s something to be said for good husbandry. It’s early days and at the end of the season it won’t matter where the points came from so a fit Raul was the safe option. The vast majority of us would have been screaming for him from 60/70 min, me included but Lage got it right. The sight of Silva entering the fray filled me with ominous dread, surely he was not the one to save us. Podence blows hot and cold but is very creative when hot so i got that. He turned the game round. Silva did well too imo. He was lively, nearly got an assist and despite being penalised, the sight of him barging someone over in a 50/50 was encouraging cos he’s looked a bit lightweight to say the least. He’s staying so lets get behind him.
My schadenfreude is off the scale as most of my mates support Villa, i’m not sure it gets any better than an 80min smug busting collapse.

One downer….. Hwang is not the new messiah. Sloppy passes all game, one leading to the second Villa goal. Lets hope he can sort that out.

They say that the sign of a great team is winning a game when it is playing badly. What a GREAT team Wolves is !!
I, like most Wolves fans, was complaining most of the game about our standard of passing to a team mate. Flashes of Traore were encouraging, flashes of Hwang were totally disheartining.
But the never say die attitude shone through in those last 10 mins. Podence a true inspiration. His 10 minute appearance gets voted by most as a MOTM performance. When have we ever seen that?
I am still worried about our managers timing for substitutions. Yes it worked this time, but when you are 2-0 down, surely you bring in fresh legs ASAP. And this has happened before.
Still, I am so looking forward to the day when we have a front three of Traore, Jimenez and Neto, with Podence as AM. Yep that would mean 4 at the back, but against lower teams, and with Boly and Coady as CB’s, we could have a wonderful and happy 2022.
Have to think hard about predicting next week. I was correct (2-1 loss) for all of 5 mins this week. However I was still waving my arms in the air (silently of course, as it was 3am over here) when those last 2 goals went in!!
I think unless there’s a complete overhaul of the squad Vic, a back four will be inevitable. To make it work we need that much discussed midfielder on our Christmas shopping list.
In making my prediction I referred to a dream about Wolves winning three on the bounce. With ten minutes to go I knew dreams are no indicator. The doubts I’d had pre-game were correct. Villa are better than Wolves.
But then the football gods took a hand and lifted the players to another level of courage and belief. Because those are the qualities you must have to succeed in the EPL.
And yes dreams can come true.
79 minutes gone and looking like a frustrating defeat. Villa weren’t anywhere near playing us off the park but we couldn’t string it together so poor defending for the first and a decent strike with a touch of luck for the second and it should have been more than enough to see them home. Cue 15 minutes of mayhem and we’re all like Clive. Boly, Jonny, Raul and Neto would stroll into that Villa side and none started. If we can get everyone fit on a regular basis, add a couple in January and Bruno finds the right formula……. As Nuno said dreaming is for free.
Well we all know about the Wolves Rollercoaster because our ticket is a lifelong one. Where to start.
1. Was hoping for an upset by doing the Villains in their own back yard, after all we owed them at least one for that smash and grab with a penalty gift courtesy of Semedo, which early in yesterday’s game I thought he was going to repeat.
2. In my head I was thinking if we get a point = decent result because they have bought some decent players including one that I was hoping we would go for, Mr Ings.
3. Then (apart from Adams’s chance for goal of the season, which as he was running in I thought here comes the fluff, BUT at least it was a save and not a ballooner, left or right flanking Adama NEVER straight up the middle) I spent most of the game talking rather loud and fast (without the help of my beloved Erdinger due to nasty mouth abscess). In this discussion with myself as the comments from the opposite sofa was “I’m surprised that this new guy hasn’t dragged off DeadDonkey, Saiss, Marcal and the others you say can’t pass for shit for your Mr Podence, Ait Nouri and that Mexican Sun God you keep shouting for. He can definitely hear you because they can hear you up at North Cape.
4. Then came dreadful defending for Ings opener knocked up a notch on the volume into a near scream to pick up Ings, like an Exocet you can see it coming from miles but there’s pretty much FA you can do about it.
5. Shouting again at the under par Mr Hwang for his slack passing which TBF about 21 on that pitch were guilty of.
6. Shouting again at Coady for letting that ball go out for a corner instead of putting it back across the face of goal, as an expert he should have listened to me. I think they are doing more set piece work and thankfully those stupid short corners from the last era seem to be a thing of the past.
7. Felt sorry for Mr Kilman’s one off the bar but the desire was there from 11 on the pitch and a great crowd of our faithful trying to head and knee the pinball effort into the net which duly happened.
8. Watching the team celebrate with the fans was truly beautiful, especially wiping the smug arrogant smiles from the faces of the other lot who will have been guffawing with each other after Traore’s saved shot earlier in the game. After the equaliser you could smell the fear.
9. Adama having the penultimate laugh as he is taken down in the most perfect spot (Mr Grumpy/Annoying twat stating “we should have fouled him further up the field” shows the lack of integrity old Smiffy has, so glad we never had him as a manager when his name was being mooted many years back.
9. Making everyone in the house X everything whilst chanting “come on Neves you are so due one in that top corner” I actually think the deflection was so much sweeter on so many different levels. Queue unbridled celebrations and BPM off the Richter scale.
For me the main thing is that the game was a DERBY and emotion, nerves and the rub of the green all thrown into that vociferous melting pot has to be taken into account. We so so deserved this. Yes there was a shitload of bad passing but the effort cannot be denied. The manager I am liking more and more even if he is slower at the sub changes than my advice to him, which seems to be often ignored. This win for me was better than the comeback against City for today we are all ‘cock’ of the Midlands. I am heading to the UK this coming week attending a reunion with some very old soldiers of whom a few are Villains, the lads have just made my trip a lot lot easier. Wim a big club wi am……UTW

Now the exhileration has eased (only a little, mind) what do we make of yesterday’s events ?
Their first goal came from Saiss getting turned far too easily by McGinn and Ings dropping off from Coady to find space. So long as we continue to play midfielders in defence we will continue to concede ‘unprofesssional’ goals like this. Surely Boly would have prevented McGinn’s cross. A ‘proper’ centre-half wouldn’t have given Ings the space he sought. But difficult to criticise too much when both the culprits went on to score…
Don’t know what Hwang was thinking, (or even if he was thinking), for their 2nd goal but either way McGinn’s shot took a massive deflection off Neves so our winner simply compensated for that.
Hwang was quiet but from what I read Lage wanted him to play as a ‘false 9′, so we didn’t get to see him making runs in behind as he did v Newcastle. I’d love to see Hwang and Raul up front, making those sort of runs and being fed passes by the Podence we saw today. When he’s on form Podence gives our attack different dimensions, and it could be argued that he turned the game around yesterday, tho’ Neves and Traore’s contributions were also significant.
Marcal was, again, fairly average/poor but I don’t see him being dropped for those away games where we need to absorb pressure. But surely RAN is a better option at home when we need to open teams up ?
As for those bloggers (you know who you are) who regaled us repetitively throughout the summer with how Villa were doing things right, how they were leaving us behind, how they were buying players (Ings, Bailey) we should have bought, how their owners were committed (and ours weren’t) – enjoy your humble pie today…

What an effort by the lads. Coming back from internationals can’t be easy, but Neves squeezing the pips outta Vanilla for the 3 points remarkable.
Massive credit to Coady for captaining the team when the chips were down. And a goal, brill.
In retrospect it was a pleasure to see Silva on the turf, his youthful locks flopping around in the sunshine. Thrown into the funace at least he didn’t get in the way and stood in some useful places. This is just the sort of team experience he needs to get the WWFC roller culture in his veins.
Adama Traore, ha ha ha. on for 90, good for 90 more. A pay rise in the offing no doubt, give him the keys to the bus. No goals, no assists? The man is a threat with one arm tied behind his back giving away 10 yards. There is just no way you don’t want to see him in the Owd Gold. Really.

What a match. I’m looking for comparisons but I don’t have good memories of us coming back from 3-0 to beat Leicester 4-3 years ago, as we both got relegated, along with Leeds. In the financial stock market world our comeback then would have been called ‘dead cat bounce’. Yesterday was no dead-cat-bounce. No, we are in touching distance of Europe, not the bloody Championship! Villa are a very decent team and got a big pay day selling Greaseball. We slipped up against Brentford, but they are no mugs either. Just ask Liverpool. I’ve said for a good while that we becoming a very good side again, after the disappointing final months of Nuno . Bruno is like.a breath of fresh air after Nuno’s demise. Would we have won yesterday if Nuno was at the helm? Not with his his tactics we wouldn’t. And we had the luxury of.leaving our star centre forward on the bench to rest him after his travels. And Traore, no goals, no assists but a match winning display all the same! Had he scored from that incredible mazy run, it would have been goal of the season. Must have added ££££ to his value. Messrs BetVictor will hear from me in the morning to collect my winnings, again. The way we swarmed all over Villa in the last 20 minutes certainly showed an attacking intent and a mindset once we had equalised of ‘let’s go and win it’s. . That’s 12 points from 8. If we could get say 14 to 16 from 10 then that would be a more than satisfactory start. Given we lost the first 3 games.
Refreshing to see that we have not drawn any games- we fans much prefer to see a team go for a win even if we leave ourselves open to counterattacks. With the quality we now have on the bench there’s no reason not to. Villa’s time wasting rebounded on them, it’s cheating and Mings was rightly booked. Despite the prematch concerns re Referee, 4th official and VAR, we had the rub of the green, for once. Interesting next few games against better opposition. Bruno MOTM for October if we beat Leeds.

For me, Kilman is the most skilful central defender in our squad.
Others of course may disagree. I for one am thankful that he was there to step up
when Boly, whom I also admire, was unavailable.
He has quicker feet than Boly and is just as commanding in the air.
I note that our defence is about the eighth best in the league.
Today, I watched Silva playing for the Under 23 s against Saints. He was an ineffective lone striker who appeared to be very distant from the rest of the team.
Cundall was involved in everything. Overall, I thought the team performance was disappointingly weak.
That was a good workout for the old ticker!
And, more importantly, those last fifteen (inc. stoppage time) minutes must be a huge shot in the arm for the team. Hopefully they can kick on from there.
On another point, I see that the December fixtures are now confirmed. The home match against Liverpool on 4 December remains a 3pm start, which leaves the door open to a Bloggers get together in the evening. Anybody fancy an early Christmas party?

I’m flying over for the game….well I do need to see my new grandson for the first time but the Liverpool game is a bonus.for this visit ..will hopefully be staying at Park View Saturday nite so hope to see some bloggers, if only for pre/post game drinks (as we knock them off their perch)

I’m not a big fan of Steve Bruce but the way the Newcastle fans treatment him on Saturday was a disgrace even by their low standards.
It has been obvious since the Saudi Government bought the team that Bruce’s days were numbered; they could have at least let him go with some dignity intact but, no, they had to humiliate him.
