As someone who recognised the need to part ways with Nuno, albeit still saddened by the news of his departure when it came, I’m excited by the promise of a new direction.

Candidates with the pedigree of Sergio Conceicao and Paulo Fonseca initially got the juices flowing, but I’ve increasingly warmed to the attack-minded Bruno Lage being the one to usher in a new era.
Reassuringly, with echoes of Nuno replacing Lambert, Fosun have shown clinical and decisive leadership in their decision to move on with Lage. Jeff an co are still very much the ones in charge.
Talk of 4411, goals galore, free flowing football and a 79% win ratio at Benfica suggests Bruno has a rather different view of the beautiful game to his predecessor. Of course, it won’t be that straightforward for at Wolves, but the vision still excites.
And that’s before we mention the work he’s done with the likes of Joao Felix, Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias.
Admittedly, the recruitment needs to be good. There’s no point hiring a coach to deliver a completely different philosophy if he’s not going to be backed.
Speculation of replacing Rui with Jose Sa for little net spend appeals, as Patricio’s inability to command his area and woeful distribution makes him dispensable.
In defence, Bruno’s liking for full backs bombing on could suit Ait-Nouri (I’d be surprised if we don’t sign him) and Semedo, while two new centre backs are a must. Boly and certainly Saiss are past their peak and I wonder if Conor will be the same player in a back four and without the manager who was instrumental to his career.
Midfield is crucially as important, and we must do all we can to keep Neves and build the team around him. I’m convinced Ruben can return to the dictating midfield maestro we all know and love under a more progressive manager. And if Bruno’s going to play technical players out wide that tuck in, then Adama seems the more natural option to be sold.
It feels like it’s time to move on from the declining Moutinho, and Dendoncker is hopelessly ineffective. We’re crying out for a physical but technically competent midfielder to protect Ruben (or his replacement). And I can’t wait to see Bruno work with Vitinha (if we sign him), who seems suited for a role out wide as an inverted winger or filling the Felix role behind the striker.
The signing of Vincius also seems like a sensible buy if we can include Vinagre in the deal. He thrived under Bruno and there’s plenty of doubt around Raul being the same player again and Silva’s readiness.
This a major reset at the club, with Bruno looking to introduce a new playing style and the potential of a radical squad overhaul. Things are changing at the Molineux. There’s so many unknowns, but that uncertainty excites.
Agree fully that the loss of Rui is not an issue, while he is a decent player, his command of the box was seriously lacking.
Absolutely require at least one good centerback, but feel there is another good year left in Boly. Coady is average in a back four, perhaps we could put him in the Neves role, as his passing is decent as his general defensive ability is reasonably. Good for thought!
The actual budget will be interesting. Will Forson put in 60M plus the 40M for Neves? Or 60M plus 75M for Adama and Neves? Is it going to be 80M or 30M plus sales, — the overall budget is crucial!
And if we buy both Vitania and Ait, that is already 30M for no real improvement over last year!
Yes, the next couple of months for WW will be very interesting, and enlightening!
Yes, personally I hope Lage tracks down some of the players he’s worked with earlier. Players he know can do the job required. Vinicius is the only ex-Bruno player we’re linked with officially.
SKW
Coady for the departing Neves (or as back up if he stays), at least as a squad option, isn’t a bad call because he isn’t the journeyman that was here when Nuno arrived.
I also feel Semedo could be used in a box to box midfield role if Hoever proves good enough to start at RB.
Totally disagree with the headline post about Big Willy – he was desperately missed when absent last season.
For me Patricio and Traore can be let go to raise money for upgrades and I would sign Ait-Noori but not Vitinha (too lightweight). And I’m sorry but I think we have to seriously consider the possibility that we will never see see the old Raul Jiminez again.
We will all haver our own differing views on individual players,
But whatever the comings and goings we need to adequately replace (ie upgrade) those who depart. But we also need to increase the size of the squad so if Fosun are of a mind to just “sell to buy” and nothing more then we are in big trouble.
Good luck Bruno – you have a big challenge on your hands but if you get the necessary backing (which Nuno didn’t for some time) then there is every chance you will be up to it, hopefully soon with a packed Molineux roaring you on,
COYW
The idea of letting Traore go I think is crazy.
I agree with most of this analysis . We had gone stale and credit to Fosun for seeing this and acting decisively not just in the timing but the swift appointment of the new coach .
As you say the attacking style is appealing after a hopeless 36 goals last year compared eg to 66 for Leicester . I will be very happy if we can be entertained as Leeds fans for example have been .
Recruits are clearly needed especially in midfield and defence .
Personally If we have to sell to buy I would sell Neves rather than Adama . Neves seems personally to need a fresh start and he has been a terrific addition to us but seems to have lost his way a bit . How he seems to have completely lost his shooting ability is a mystery but he has .
The journey continues and I am looking forward to where it takes us although where that is I am not at all sure !
It’s not just the change of Coach. There’s a structural change within the club also. While everything was centered around backing Nuno to realize his vision, Lage will be inserted into a system where probably several people have a say and are involved (source: Molineux.news). There’s not enough information available yet to know the big differences between the club’s previous approach and the new approach under Lage in detail, but I really hope Lage still can carry out his vision without too many compromises and obstacles.
It’s all about money if we were ro sell everyone out on lone we could raise 40 or 50 mill if fuson add 50 or 60 mill we have a decent transfer pot. I agree with Vinincius add Vinagre inas part exchange defo keep Nevis add an attack minded midfielder to play with him and 1 or 2 CH and games on.
Dek
Suspect the problem with those out on loan (particularly Cuitron) is that they won’t sell for the book value they rate.
I’d rather use Vinagre as a makeweight in a deal for Palhina, that would certainly allow Neves to play more as a playmaker & further up the field. I believe we could be in for more exciting times (said with fingers crossed)
Patricio’s distribution isn’t the best, he doesn’t command his box well and he’s weak low down close on both sides. I see we’ve been linked to Mr Grimsdale from the Blades – Eddie Howe thinks Ramsdale is an excellent keeper so that would be good enough for me. I would much rather see a British spine to the team and for immediate steel I would go for someone like John Egan a hard tackling defender and a powerful header of the ball. Okay he’s not the quickest but with perhaps Souttah from Stoke and Sanderson alongside learning the game and with good turns of speed, I would look forward to playing Burnley instead of being scared stiff.
Talking of Burnley, I would also go for Charlie Taylor who has to be one of the most underestimated left backs in the Premiership. Ait-Nouri has his good points but I feel he’s still weak defensively, is nowhere near worth 20 million and we could get Taylor for less.
Apart from Ramsdale I don’t think the others would break the bank, especially if we move some on like Patricio, Boly and Saiss.
With his alleged attacking nous I think you just have to let Lage get on with the midfield and attack and cash/ exchange players for Vinaige and Mir can only be a bonus. I’d also look forward to seeing what an attacking coach could do with the likes of Neto and Traore!
Am I dreaming or is the above a nightmare?
Ernie Sanderson is going to be sold there’s 4 or 5 clubs after him and Wolves are willing to sell I would also sell saiss and Dendoncker and Mountinho just for starters.
Don’t disagree but it’s going to leave us decidedly thin on the ground and may not produce huge revenue.
The thing about Patrício is that, with all of the (slightly exaggerated) flaws being mentioned, he’s one of the 4-5 best shot stoppers in the world.
I know we all want to go deeper than that – but, being a goalie who is good at keeping tough shots out of the net is still pretty valuable. Right now (July 7, 2021), Jose Sa and Ramsdale are a step down from Rui. Maybe in three years that won’t be true. But, right now it is.
Nah – not going to let you get away with that Lou – Patricio is entirely average at best.
If you just take the Euros, he certainly didn’t cover himself with glory. If he’s one one the best shot stoppers in the world , he’d at least got a glove on Hazard’s shot in the Belgium game. Similarly, if you cast your mind back to the Portugal v Germany game, Germany had a goal disallowed in the first half where even I couldn’t understand how Patricio had been beaten at his near post. There are so many examples I could choose from last season’s Premier League but if you take Eze’s goal for Crystal Palace as an example, a world class shot stopper would have got something on the shot even though I admit it may still would would have ended up in the net, but Patricio was nowhere near it and was flailing at thin air.
I won’t say that we should be necessarily be influenced by the player game scores in the E&S and B’ham Post but Patricio has never scored more tha an eight and averaged six or seven last season. If, say you compare that with Martinez of Villa he regularly scored eights an nines. In other words regardless of the defensive limitations of both teams Martinez kept Villa in the game far more than Patricio. If you disagree then, perhaps the Chelsea game apart, please name the matches that Patricio kept us in the game last season.
My issue is that as any league club you simply have to start with the best keeper you can. Burnley are a prime example of sourcing the best possible keeper you can and they have a history of doing so. All I want is the same for Wolves and Patricio is far from the best.. Far from being one of the best 4/5 shot stoppers in the world,he wouldn’t make one of the top ten keepers in the Permiership.
That’s a positive and optimistic view on where we are now Paddy! I certainly agree in general. Fosun have shown clinical leadership in replacing Nuno. Just look at Spurs in contrast, they are all over the place! What message does that send to Harry Kane? Mourinho was sacked how many weeks/months ago and still they are no nearer a new appointment. We may have misgivings about Jeff Shi but I’m so glad we don’t have Daniel Levy!
I think Boly still has a few more good seasons in him, likewise Coady. Patricio is leaving, we know, and even if not, he is past his best. Fabio Silva can only improve under Bruno. As you say, midfield is crucial, we didn’t seem to even have one against West Ham and Burnley at home recently! The Burnley defeat brought back memories of the 5-1 shocker at home to the Baggies in 2012. This debacle was probably the final straw for Jeff. Bruno please note! We could do with a Roy Keane-type character in midfield. Neves has many qualities but he was easily bypassed as a defensive midfielder this season. If he stays, Bruno should play him more offensively like Nuno did originally.
Now that the initial trauma at the departure of Nuno is over, I really feel that a new door has opened. We can build on the best aspects of Nuno’s approach and add Bruno’s attacking flair. Nuno himself, in physical appearance, was the epitome of an historical Cavalier but tactically he was more of a Roundhead. Bruno may be your actual Cavalier! The King is dead. Long live the King.
Fosun will be looking for a net zero spend
So will be looking to offload Moutinho, Saiss, hopefully Dendonker, Patricio, Neves or Traore
Should raise 65mill +
So new replacements will have to be carefully chosen
Interesting times
If they sell all of those players and get £65 million, the team will be significantly weakened. Those players can’t be replaced for £65 million
Based on what it seems like they’re trying to do, I expect the following players to leave in order to raise money:
> Patricio
> Moutinho
> Neves
> Vinagre
> Mir
Then questions to be answered regarding:
> Vitinha
> Ait-Nouri
> Willian Jose
If all of those went it would leave the first-team squad with just 16ish players:
1. Ruddy
2. Jonny
3. Marcal
4. Semedo
5. Hoever
6. Boly
7. Coady
8. Saiss
9. Kilman
10. Dendoncker
11. Gibbs-White
12. Podence
13. Neto
14. Traore
15. Jimenez
16. Fabio
Within this, Jonny is a long-term injury and Neto is out for a good while into the new season. We don’t know what level Raul is capable of playing at after nearly a year out. The likes of Boly, Marcel and Podence have all had trouble staying fit for any length of time in the last year.
This is a huge rebuild project for the club and Lage, but a rebuild could work to his benefit if it means he can immediately shape the squad to his preference. That’s what Nuno was able to do in his first summer, bringing in five or six first-team additions to hit the ground running and then upgrading in his second summer.
Like you Paddy, I’m excited by the prospect of more attacking football, but also concerned that failure could see things turn very nasty. The club must act decisively this summer with some serious wheeling and dealing to refresh the first team and wider squad.
On the shopping list.
> Goalkeeper
> Left-back
> Minimum 1 center half
> Minimum 2 central midfielders
> Minimum 1 wide player
> Minimum 1 forward
That’s 7 players minimum and we could probably do with one or two more.
It’s conceivable we might sign Ait-Nouri, Vitinha and Willian Jose to tick some of these boxes but I’ll be nervous unless we also sign 5 battle-hardened senior pros to become mainstays of the team. To let Rui, Ruben and Joao leave is to dispense with a serious amount of experience and know-how. These are leaders on the pitch and would need replacing – not just with technical capability, but also the confidence to be a major influence week in, week out.
The hope is we get some better players from Jorge’s stable who’ve at least tasted a couple of solid years of first-team football in an elite competition. Sa, the goalkeeper would be a good example. Trincao from Barcelona not quite so experienced but in a less risky position and clearly has quality. I heard someone mention Grimaldo, a left-back who was paramount to Lage’s success at Benfica . All just rumours of course, but this the calibre of player we must attract to do anything other than struggle.
…I should add that my biggest fear is they sell first-team players and think they can spend a load more cash on prospects. If the makeup of our summer business is young players from Portugal who’ve played less than 20 games for the first team, we know where this is going.
You’ve hit the nail well and truly on the head, Thomas. Surely, one thing Jeff will have learnt from last season is the value of PL experienced players when the injuries pile up. We were running on empty during those last 3 games. Whilst I am encouraged by all the rara generated around Bruno’s attack minded Benfica title winning season, this is a Wolves team in disarray he is taking over, I’ll be more than happy with mid table next season and no relegation dramas, thank you very much. We are starting to get carried away by the PR machine before any evidence of any improvements. That’s the fun of being a Wolves fan, eternal optimists, always travelling in hope!
What to do you think about the new infrastructure changes, reported by Molineux.news? Under Nuno everything was centered around Nuno’s vision, where everything was organized in order to help Nuno realizing his goals. Now Lage comes into a system (probably the club’s direction/philosophy which several peoples at the club probably have taken part in and formed). I personally hope Lage can work without too many compromises, interferences and obstacles to realize his philosophy.
Agreed. Except, Trincao sort of fits that profile…and, I think that’s a tremendous piece of business
That about sums it up Thomas. But, I’m not bothered about losing Rui and Joao; age is catching up with them. As for William Jose, thanks but no thanks. He’s obviously had goal scoring opportunities laid on a plate for him before he came to Wolves.
Nuno had the advantage of starting from a much lower base, the Championship. Bruno will have a much bigger and more difficult first season than Nuno did, but I think he’s up to the job.
If Fosun have the balls I hope they have, then they will do a Man. City, stick two fingers up to the financial rules, and spend whatever they want.
City got found guilty, fined, banned and had it all rescinded.
If it’s good enough for them, it’s certainly good enough for Wolves.
Fosun have the financial clout, just haven’t shown too much of it so far.
Typical Eastern “keep things close to your chest” mentality.
I love it!
If Bruno is as shrewd as we suspect, he will already have his sights on replacements/additions to our squad, and them who are moving on will already know their lockers have been cleaned out!
Free flowing, attacking liquid football, as per Nuno’s first season, and follow the old Busby adage:
It doesn’t matter how many goals you let in, as long as you score more up the other end!
Attack, attack, attack attack attack!!
Goodbye ‘Orse, goodbye ‘Orse, he was sayin’ goodbye to ‘is ‘orse.
The old uns on here will remember that.
We live in exciting times.
FOwb
Bloody Hell Clive, the penny has finally dropped re: FOSUN. Your right and I don’t say that very often they have the cash so why don’t they do what City have done and Chelsea and Villa.
Villa over the last 2 seasons have spent well over £200 million but no action against them or the others may be apart from City but that was just a slap on the wrist this is my biggest frustration with FOSUN since they have took over they have not up to this point gone all out.
Hope for many more blogs like this from you Clive you might even get on my Christmas card list……spot on mate………can I call you mate………go on….please
If you insist.
Jeez, the things I do for World peace!!
Go on, gizz a kiss.
Bruno Lage doesn’t come across to me as an idiot.
So I imagine that he won’t have taken the job on without certain positive commitment from Jeff and his moneymen, that funds will be made available to strengthen the squad.
Enabling it to play in the manner to which he, and we, would like to become accustomed.
I fear that quite a few favourites will be on their bikes in the close season, and, as a stick in the mud round ball reactionary who hates changes, my first thought is to worry about which hero I will never see again on the hallowed Molineux turf.
And then to fret about the latest ‘Carlos Kickaball’ that might replace him.
If I had my way, I’d still be playing Johnny Richards up front alongside Bully with Mike Bailey bossing midfield.
But, being sensible (for once), and looking long term… things DO change.
Whatever happens, Wolverhampton Wanderers is STILL my club.
Players come, players go, coaches jump on and off the managerial merry go round…
…but the club goes on.
And we, poor fools, are fated for ever to keep following the dream.
Many people have had it.
The last one was Nuno…. now it’s Bruno’s.
As you say Bruno I’m sure is no idiot and the thought that (even as a big admirer of Nuno) we might see a lot more excitement than we have for at least 2 years is very appealing.
My reservation is that after a long time without work he may not have had an awful lot of bargaining power when at the negotiating table with Jeff and Mendes..
Within reason I don’t really mind who leaves as long as they are replaced with as good or better. Having said that I would like to see Neves stay, but if the right offer comes along (Arsenal not good enough for him) we should give him our blessing.
Real Madrid followed Fabio Silva last season. We could try to swap him for Martin Ødegaard which played for Arsenal last season.
Kenny ‘kickaball’ Hibbitt AND Mike Bailey in Midfield.
Doog..
That’s a lovely picture of sir Jack, his new Bird and his security guard.
All just off for a Chinese in BrierleyHill
And he paid!
I don’t know what the security guard was doing in that multi-coloured jacket with the faux fur trim though.
You cheeky monkey…
You wearing platforms or is sir Jack kneeling down?
After wondering for a week or two, I now know how to say Lage; Lage as in Nigel ForAGE.
This window is already excruciating with some favourites destined not to wear the shirt again and people busy airing their personal biases as to who should go. As I don’t particularly judge our players on the underwhelming, last season for a few good reasons, and I have no way of judging any replacements until ten games into next season, I am feeling a little trepidation settling in.
I’m sure my paranoia will be answered professionally by the club, but our history does leave us with scars between the moments of sheer joy; We are Wolves and not the self appointed great teams of the day after all.
One young player I liked is bound for new fields; Sanderson; I thought he should have been a squad player last season and rated him highly. I shall watch his progress with interest. Connor Ronan is another banished abroad fairly often whom I thought highly of. Grasshoppers last season, I believe with one or two others.
It is time some of the numerous youngsters who go through our Academy came more to the fore. MGW has been the nearest but still has some way to go in my opinion. This season may be his break through year; who knows?
Thank goodness we have the Euros to see us through this worrying time. And we have at least a couple of teams to follow. Portugal, at the moment containing a few Wolves’ players in its squad should be a back up side to our own.
The next upcoming important day is on Wednesday when the fixtures are due. Then will there be the go ahead for our season tickets to be purchased? I hope so; I need to get some live football experience back into my life. I’ve sat there through League One games and enjoyed them, so let’s get going again, please.
I too fear a sale of Dion Sanderson will come back to haunt us. Terrific prospect. Why sell now?
Hate to be pedantic but it’s Nigel Farage! But it’s a good way of getting the correct pronunciation.
I’ve already heard the ITV commentator in last night’s Belgium game call him Lager!
Wonder if Dendoncker, doing the dirty stuff in midfield for Belgium, will be doing the same for Lage?
The way Belgium set up and played last night seemed a lot like the descriptions I’ve heard of how Lage likes to play. So maybe we already have one part of the jigsaw?
I know Dendoncker is not everyone’s cup of tea on here. But I’d have to differ, he does the dirty stuff in midfield, he’s good in the air, occupies a lot of the field and crucially allows others to do the flair stuff.
Belgium’s full backs were key to the attack. Hopefully we can see something similar if and when we finally get back to watching live football at Molineux.
While we need new blood I am certain Lage won’t be wanting to get rid of players who can do a decent job for us. Football very much a team game with different parts having to be played. As holding midfielders go I think Dendoncker can do an excellent job for Lage.
Absolutely.
Let us all give our support to Arfur, as in Arfur lager , and hope that he soon becomes the full pint.
I agree about Dendonker. Many who do that job, closing down, denying space, intercepting and doing the hard work of chasing and harrying seem to be unappreciated by some fans. I can think of a few down the years. What is sure is that this type of player is appreciated by his team mates. We all know even Neves was not at his best after Covid, but I saw that in one of the later games where he was thought to be poor, he still managed to make by far the most interceptions.
No player is indispensable..not one.
Squad needs freshening up with new faces and without buying any other players; we need a mobile midfield to 1/ support and help the defence and 2/ to supply the strikers.
Simple.
Just midfield..nowt else.
I’m here Brnuno when you want to chat:)
BREAKING NEWS
NUNO’S BACK!
SPORTING DIRECTOR!
…Or is it fake news?
Wowsers!!!
If that is true then the owners have big hearts
And common sense.
If it’s actually true ??
Unfortunately I think it’s a case of ‘don’t believe anything you read on certain social media sites until you’ve checked the facts elsewhere’.
An all too frequent occurrence nowadays.
But it would have been nice.
Is it April 1st?
Nuno to Everton. What price Neves, Adama, Neto to follow? Rebuild? We can’t even sign the wonder kids from Porto Or Benfica B now – cus Brexit. Nuno’s boys will be well pissed at his departure, he has literally been a father figure to them.
But Well done you called it right.
Neto isn’t following anyone. He fractured his patella for **********.
I’m less optimistic than those on here so far. I’m worried we’re trying to change too much too quickly. History has shown that in the premier league the most effective way to change manager is evolution not revolution, looking to build on the previous managers style rather than completely throw it out. Add into that we are possibly getting rid of six seasoned pros out of an already threadbare squad and you have a real recipe for disaster.
I hate to say this but the historic odds say we will more likely be scrapping at the bottom of the table than top and Lage will be gone at Christmas. I hope it’s not the case but changing the tactical style, completely rebuilding the squad and team spirit and getting 5 or 6 players up to speed in the premier league is probably going to be beyond us.
I really hope I’m wrong.
New direction? I think most fans will be fearful this is downwards. Fosun have false confidence in Wolves premier league status and are being mugged. I think they will have to sell Adama and/or Neves. Wolves will be in big trouble if they don’t then fully reinvest in quality instead of gambling on kids or expecting the solutions to be found internally.
That’s a very negative outlook slider. And based on very little evidence.
Yes I agree I’m quite depressed about the scenario to be honest. I’ve just loved the Nuno years so much, not in the least bit tainted by last season either, just circumstances imo.
It’s up to Fosun and Bruno to turn fans like me around in the run up to the season and end of transfer window. They are spinning continuity but it feels like anything but.
If latest reports are confirmed Nuno is joining Everton which will put him in direct competition with Bruno for Jorge Mendes clients. I must admit I don’t feel any excitement about what’s happening to my club at present. I’m old enough to remember John Ireland in September 1964 and the disbelief over the sacking of Stanley Cullis. I don’t want to be a prophet of doom. I desperately want to see Wolves achieve greater success in my later years. Like most of us I just need convincing.
New manager new direction but same old sound bites and excuses coming from Jeff.
Jeff could do with looking back to 2003 Jack failed to invest and 2013 Morgan failed to invest changing managers is all well and good but but same attitude towards investing will only end one way. ……. ask Dave Jones and Mick McCarthy.
According to the 4 videos recently aired Jeff Shi just looks to the future.
Hopefully he’s wise and astute enough to realise that the Prem is an unforgiving league.
H’ell have to back Lage fully or it was pointless him changing coaches. I’m optimistic at the moment, so looking forward as opposed to dwelling on past errors and underinvestment.
I’m thinking w’ell have a great season, but in the full knowledge of how in the past the dream has not always coincided with reality! That’s life!
Allen I’m just saying Jeff could learn a few lessons from our recent history to avoid repeating it.
We have sold our best players in the past to fund transfer and it has failed every time it’s farcial to think selling your best players to get better ones which in the end cost more.
Would agree with you totally on that. Just hope Fosun do get it right.
That we can trust that they will as Jeff Shi says Trust us. We will but results are the proof of that trust.
I struggle to see where Fosun/Jeff have gone wrong so far.
Admittedly the jury is still out on the Nuno/Bruno situation but we can’t criticise actions that haven’t been taken yet.
I was looking forward to a big Wolves refresh over the summer but with Bruno now at the helm I imagine even bigger changes are afoot. We have a very interesting couple of months ahead of us. I’m really hoping Neves isn’t sacrificed in the hunt for funds but I guess all bets are now off.
On a personal front, I had the unexpected privilege of playing on the Molineux pitch last Sunday. Unfortunately, I managed to pick up a groin injury and now have some extended time with my leg up. Thank goodness for the Euros!
As regards the latter, the Eriksen episode was a sobering moment. Fingers crossed he is ok – and a horrible reminder of what happened to Raul.
Cor Dougie, I’d love to play at Molineux. I don’t think they hold tiddleywinks tournaments there though.
It was all thanks to the Wolves Foundation, Steve. We were given a quarter of the pitch for our kick about. On another part there were people messing about with lawn bowls, which should be my game now.
You can still get a nasty injury from Lawn Bowls mate.
You drop one on your toe and you KNOW it.
Didn’t he play for QPR?
Or was that his brother Stan?
I just think we should all embrace the new era. Some encouraging noises coming out of Fosun. Interesting looking at the Everton forum this morning. They have already got a sack the manager thread before Nuno is even appointed. Wow. Football fans. Loff ay it.
Johnny Philips , Sport Writer, has produced a measured overview of the new scene at Molineux. I commend it as a worthwhile read .
The E&S published it on Saturday.
Thank you Kendalwolf. A very good read.
Can somebody stick a link on here, please?
Just google “From Nuno to Bruno”, Clive.
That should do it.
Here you go Clive.

I had a great chat with Ron at Malaga Airport a few years ago.
As a youngster, I watched that Cup Final , with him and Peter Broadbent, when Bert Trautman injured his neck. Happy days!
Not a happy day for Burt though.
Great players but played in different finals. I think it was Dave Whelan who broke his leg in the final we were in. Bert broke his neck four years earlier against Brum, I think. Broadbent is my all time favourite Wolves player closely followed by Flowers.
The Doog was up front for Blackburn in our final also…
Yes. I still have the programme!
There was a story that Doog requested a transfer at half time!
Great minds think alike Debenham – PB is also my all-time Wolves favourite, he was absolutely magical.
You are right about Dave Whelan breaking his leg. I always had some sympathy for him for his bad luck at Wembley – until I heard an interview he did in later years when he accused Norman Deeley of deliberately causing the break. ND was under 5 feet tall on his debut and, even though he did grow a bit more, I don’t think anyone would mistake him for Norman Hunter or Chopper Harris. Whelan went down a lot in my view after I heard that tosh from him.
I was at the 1960 final – in the Blackburn end – and also went to the semi-final at Hillsboro when Blues played Sunderland before losing to City in the Trautman final. Dad and I got tickets from a rep who called on him and happened to live next door to Len Boyd the Blues captain. They were great in the semi but played badly in the final.
My Dad is related to Ron via marriage – although he’s got dementia now so no good asking him. Think they got persisted on home made egg-flip once
The problem with being a Wolves fan is that we seen the past cycles of boom and bust, we’ve seen good teams disintegrate and good players move on to thrive elsewhere, we’ve seen new managers come in and their ideas not delivered , we almost expect bad things to happen following windows of success.
All the talk of departures is depressing and we need reassurance from the leadership that replacements will be better and outnumber those departing.
The likes of Boly, Neves and Traore should be the new core of the team not the first in the taxi. We shouldn’t be demolishing what Nuno built .
I have just stocked up my fridge with lager for the Euro’s. I got San Miguel because Spain are playing and it’s Spanish. I got Becks because Germany are playing and it’s German. I got Kronenbourg because France are playing and it’s French. I got Carling because Scotland are playing and it’s shit.
Cheesey… you’ve fallen short on the beers mate…
I’ve just shipped in .. a 24 pack of Amstel lager PLUS for the Belgian games…. an eight pack of Leffe Blonde … f@@kin knockout…
You up for a Black Country crawl again…!
Apart from the Leffe, all that lot is shite! Got me a small barrel of Enville. Pure black country (almost!)nectar.
No worries Twix. Loff ay it.
Just as well China is not in Europe. You might have got Corona !
Apparently when scottish school kids get detention rather than lines or the cane they now have to watch the whole of Scotland versus Czech Republic.
Too soon?
Just the second Czech goal on repeat would be enough I reckon.
Feel very strongly that we need to do everything we can to hold on to Neves. He is such a technically gifted player who still contributed so much in a tough season. He would thrive with the right midfield partners and should be the beating heart of our team. I’d be really disappointed if Lage doesn’t even get a chance to try and persuade Neves to stay. However, if Neves is truly determined to move on, then Fosun must, must ensure an appropriate figure is secured for his services. This starts at £50m, plus add ons and with a healthy sell-on clause. Anything less would be a complete travesty and an embarrassment for our club. Neves is a superstar, young and and any receiving club will always make a very healthy profit in any future transfer. I’m not seeing reduced market figures being quoted for the best players out there and I’m damn sure we won’t be offered cut-price deals, so why the hell should we be short-changed if we have to reluctantly lose our most prized assets to raise further funds? That all being said – hope we don’t lose the great man.
My thoughts exactly, Silverwolf. Neves is technically gifted, but his talents were restrained and suppressed by the presence of Moutinuno and the overly defensive football that we played over the past season.
If he wants to leave, ok he has put in his time and service to Wolves, but we cannot sell him for a price that is below his value. He has so much potential! Hope he moves overseas though, it would be painful to see him performing week after week for another PL team!
Also hope he performs really well in the Euros to add another 5M+ to his price!
Everton is one that creates as much concern….
If nuno was loved by the players as we believe we could just see players off there
Nuno was no ordinary Wolves manager/coach. He had a bond with the club and fans like no other predecessor had in modern times. But I don’t think this was reciprocated with every player. For example, Jota, Doc, Neto, Traore of the major players and Afobe, Douglas, Bennett etc of the secondary ones, all seemed to have issues with Nuno. I think it was Nuno’s way or the highway.
By virtue of starting in the championship, Nuno had a ground floor opportunity to immerse himself into The Project, and did so spectacularly well. ‘The Messiah’ was a label bandied about, and with good reason. If and when Nuno goes to Everton, it’s just a job for him. He’s obviously looking. He in effect applied for the Crystal Palace job too, but Palace were unwilling to take on his expensive backroom team as well. Everton and Palace are just jobs to Nuno, Wolves was different. I can imagine that Nuno might want Coady at Everton, but do they need a new captain? Nuno could just as well be sacked at Everton by Christmas, as succeed. There will be no special bond there. He will be judged by results. His large backroom team might ruffle a few feathers with the establishment (Duncan Ferguson etc) on Merseyside if results aren’t good. Marco Silva and Carlo Ancelotti didn’t exactly inspire much lasting love at Everton, did they?
I like your Tesco bargain barbie. Every little helps.
Good post Dances- no sentiment when you are hiring/firing in the PL. Nuno and Lage could both be sacked by Xmas. Whilst Nuno is clearly ‘ oven ready’ for a top job I am slightly disappointed that he has made himself available so quickly, I assumed that the Covid induced separation from family would encourage him to take 6 months with them and then reflect upon another project. Mouths to feed I guess and his stable of backroom staff to consider also. No need to rush though as there is a continual merry go round of management changes in the top leagues. Roll on the Scotland game.
I too was disappointed to hear that Nuno was putting himself about a lot. I expected he would upgrade to the Portugal national team job or even take a bit of a well-earned break. He’s definitely not a cert for the Everton job. I have a hunch it will go to Benitez. OK, Rafa has Liverpool on his CV, but he was equally a controversial appointment at Chelsea but won the Europa League with them.
Bruno for Nuno. Not many people knew who Nuno was when he arrived and he performed miracles at the Mol. I had never heard of him, I have heard of Bruno. Apparently, so they say, he is a better coach than Nuno. We’ll have to wait and see.
Obviously there is going to be some movement of players, in and out, before the new season starts. It’s going to be interesting…………
Get rid of Boly?? Really?? We must not forget that he was injured and also suffered from long covid. That was the main reason he struggled towards the end of the season.
I have no doubt that Bruno will look at our defence, after all we are using the same people from our Championship days. Whilst Saiss has filled in at the back I never saw him as a defender.
Looking Like Rui and Neves are leaving. Rui is a top goalkeeper and I can’t believe I have seen posts on here saying he is ‘past it’ . He will be hard to replace.
Neves is one of my favourite players and has been a pleasure to see him in a Wolves shirt. For his own development he needs to move on, though I would be pleased to see him stay.
Adama? Who knows, the lad is an enigma. When he is in the right frame of mind he is unstoppable. Is consistency is his biggest problem.
Onwards & Upwards
Not really football related, coz I’m going to mention sandwell town, but my mate Neil has re opened his Chipper chip shop in Pin Oak Village, Katy, Texas.
We had the pleasure of being there on opening day today, and I have to say his quality has not dropped at all.
I have been in Texas over 30 years, and Neil’s fish n chips ae by far and away the best outside Great Britain.
Any bloggers who live in the greater Houston area should pay him a visit, you won’t be disappointed, the portions are huge and the prices reasonable. Please support this fine establishment, then take the piss coz he’s an Albion fan!
Does he offer a delivery service?
I’ll pay the usual quid extra.
Albion never delivers!
Will you be earning a commission?
Perhaps a free season ticket for Sandwell town?
The chips are worth more than a season ticket at the crem!!
So the the first three games are against Leicester, Spurs, and Man U! Wow! We could have between zero to about four points, worst case/best case after those games.
Of course at this moment we have absolutely no idea what our team will look like!
Not an easy start for Bruno. A bit of an early test for the team, I’d say!
Disagree entirely.
Nine of the easiest points of the season!
Yes. Last season we took 4 points out of those 18 points.
Don’t want to be pedantic, but its only three games, x 3 points, = 9 points.
I understand , Clive.
However , my point was that we only managed four points in the six fixtures against those sides during last season.
If we attain nine points in those first three fixtures I am sure we will all be ecstatic!
First new summer signing is for our defense: Colombian Yerson Mosquera
https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/first-team/20210617-wolves-clinch-signing-of-mosquera/
He looks a good physical presence and able to provide nice crosses. Seems like a good start to the transfer season. I read we paid 6m for him.
The question is, is he first team material, or is he another “one for the future? !”
Nothing wrong with getting talent to develop, but please don’t forget the first team, as last season’s lessons are still very fresh!
Looks as if Jeff intends to persist with the “ones for the future” with Mendes in the driving seat strategy again if early signs are anything to go by.
The jury is very much out for me if we are also selling some experienced members of the squad which seems to be the way things are heading.
Good luck again Bruno you may need it.
But no done deals yet, so keep yer knickers straight!!
I did say early signs Clive and I admire your optimism, but surely you have learnt to translate Jeff speak by now.
PJB, was Mendes in the driving seat, or even involved, for this first signing? I didn’t see that reported. OK, Mosquera is not quite ‘one for the future’ as it’s been stated that he will join the first team squad. Yes, he’s young and playing in a less challenging league than ours, but wasn’t Jamie Vardy plucked from non-league for £1mil? A lesser character than Jeff Shi, Jez Moxey, wasn’t willing to sign Vardy when Wolves were after him. You won’t win the lottery unless you enter.
I think we will see several signings with top level experience coming in. Patricio will go and we will sign a younger version of him. Those that want to leave should leave as we don’t want reluctant players but I believe they will be replaced by equals or better. Bruno would not be coming in without a clear understanding on budget and transfers.
I also wish Bruno luck but I think Nuno will need more luck in his next appointment. Bruno’s job is to kickstart a stalled project, whereas Nuno will be expected to create his own elsewhere.
DWW
Sincerely hope you are right in that those leaving are replaced by equal or better. On this one recent history casts doubt, eg. I don’t see Fabio as an equal to Jota and if ever he won’t be for a some time to come.
But we can only wait and see. .
I’m a little concerned with Sellars’ comments reported in the Birminghams mail. He said:
“Before Brexit, we couldn’t go into South America unless it was to buy very established players. We would’ve had to wait for a player to spend time developing at another club, and for their value to go up substantially before we could bring them in.
But under the new rules, we can bring these talented young players into the club earlier in their careers, develop them here by giving them minutes in the first-team and have them competing with our own players, and this way increasing their market value ourselves.”
Doesn’t seem to say a lot about how these bargains will improve the results on the pitch, does it? Is that secondary to their future market value?
Or is it, as per usual, paper talk coz there ain’t much else to write about?
It’s a direct quote from Scott Sellars:
https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/wolves-first-transfer-yerson-mosquera-20841987
Mixed messages from Mr Sellars really. I understand the EU don’t have rules about employing people from outside the EU. It’s left to national governments. He more or less confirms this by saying he was being tracked by many clubs around Europe. Unless they are all Swiss
or Norwegian of course. Looks like a promising signing though.
Sellers basicaly saying we Will be shopping at Poundland would’nt want our owner to break into one of his Billions ……..God forbid
Of course established players cost more….Scot but they are usealy oven ready you dont have to wait five years for them to get in the first team.
We must be the only club in the world wonderland by a brillionare shopping in bargin basement stores……pathetic and embarrassing.
Should read.
Only club in the world owned by a multi billionaire shopping in bargin basement
It’s irrelevant how much money he has because Wolves are owned by a company(Fosun).
And who owns FOSUN……they are one and the same. It is very relevant we have a billionaire owner of FOSUN of which Wolves are one of a number of company’s under FOSUN control and ownership.
That’s how they try and hide, that and the FFP rules.
Chelsea and Man City are own by Company’s the same as Wolves doesn’t stop there owners from investing.
All this also about trying to grow commercially in country like China and South America you not going to sell thousands of shirts by finishing 12th in the League perhaps if we won a trophy I think that might help that’s why teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, City and Utd are bigger commercially and sell more shirts than us because they win trophies it’s not rocket science…….you win trophies you get more publicity……..you sell more merchandise.
There’s a yellow Reliant Robin three-wheeler in the Mol car park. Might belong to Scott Sellars. Nice little earner, buy low from South America, sell high here. Lovely jubbly. It’s a Sellar’s market Rodney! This time next year we’ll be millionaires…
Having seen Alexander Isak – Sweden and Real Sociedad – play in the Euros and been voted young player of the year, it’s now pretty clear to me why Real Sociedad wanted to offload Willian Jose to us.
A prime example of trying to palm us off with an overpriced underperforming player.
Absobloodylutely spot on Ern. Our finances could have been seriously dented there with nothing to show for it.
I hear we are putting up a statue of Stan Cullis at the Mol. It won’t be the first statue. We had one on the pitch last season, spitting image of William Jose.
So Wolves not prepared to buy English cost to much, to much red tape to by from Europe so we are looking at South America North America not Brazil or Argentina can not afford them either so here’s a list of countries expect to see new players arrive from.
U.S.A
Canada
Chile
El. Salvador
Columbia
Honduras
Mexico
Bolivia
Perù
Ecuador
Venezuela
Guyana
Uruguay
Paraguay
Suriname
French Guiana
Aruba………………….oh and the Falkland Islands
The words disparate and tight arse spring to mind dont remember Jeff mentioning this four years ago when FOSUN rocked up……..where are the grand promises and bold statements NOW…!
One’s for the future Paul – but whose future?
At least you’ve used that dusty old school atlas now.
I am reliably informed that Wolves will be recruiting from a Brazilian top club in the coming years.
I think Kane should be brought on for the second half… ???
A somewhat gutless performance in my opinion. Some of the lads on the bench must have been frustrated by the lack of management action. Well done to the Scots who showed the correct attitude. We’re certainly not peaking too early…
So now we know where Nuno has landed.
England coach!!
Sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards, give it away.
What a boring, gutless, mind numbing display, just like Wolves last few games of the season.
Are these the best players that we can find?
At least we can all go off on summer hols after the round of sixteen, when both England and the jocks will be going home.
Pathetic display, and how James was not told we change ends at half time is beyond me.
Garbage.
Sorry for not posting something football related, but there was not much on display tonight!
Boring is an understatement! Are the players not committed? It certainly did not look so! Perhaps it is the coaching tactics or instructions from the coach. England have such talented players, but the excitement is just not there with their style of play. Every single tournament!
And (diving Swan) Grealish is one of the players for England who can make things happen, and he is not even picked to start!
Mindboggling!
There was something really wrong last night in my view; You pick the most attack minded full backs and get them to staying their own half mainly. Fear of Robinson and his mate down the left permeated our performance. Grealish, God bless him, needs a free role and to start a couple of games to get up to speed. Kane, our one world class player, deserves one more chance to show he is really up for it or, if not, We have two lads on the bench who will put in the required effort. Nervous fear, in my view, were apparent in our tactics and grew as the game progressed. The lack of progressive changes showed a lack of ability and respect from the management team; get your act together boys; we’re better than that as our much derided defenders proved to some extent. I hope to see a few changes for the next game…
Just watching the Portugal/ Germany game — Samedo is having an absolute mare and Patricio isn’t far behind him. Roma might pull the plug on this performance!
In the unlikely event I am voted in as Prime Minister the first thing I will do is outlaw Gareth Bales hairdo. Few things are more annoying. Like your kid brother becoming a Shit fan.
I consumed 15 yoghurts last night. I was mullered.
Let’s all get behind our team tonight. Come on Croatia!!
Weh hey! Jocks 1 -0 down. Jolly upsetting I say.!
Cheesy spare a thought for our much loved and now missed on this blog, a Scottish Wolf bleeding in his den. All Wolves together..
Oooooooo we’ve got another goalkeeper (although it looks like we have to call him a “shot-stopper”, these days).
Do we have enough now, or should we add a couple more before the window closes?
With Bruno’s known attacking style we might be a bit exposed at the back and need two keepers in goal…
I hear that Gareth Southgate says England aspire to play champagne football. I think he was misheard. He probably said, sham-pain football.
For those of you who think Moutinho is past it, check out last night’s game against the world champions and clear favourites to win the Euros.
Hi Ho Wolveramptun!!
Happy Birthday Jeff Beck.
Same birthday as Mrs Bardwolf!!!
Not a rock chick or heavy metal legend but her first boyfriend went to school with Robert Plant and is a massive Wolves fan.
Who is that then?????
Many Happy Wotsits and kisses from Texas to Mrs. B.
Just a thought, after reading through some of the comments about not buying English/ British.
After watching the dire, pedestrian, mind numbing performances of the England team, are there any English players out there worth buying?
Or, do they play that boring crap because they are coached by the England staff that way?
Personally, I couldn’t give a rat’s arse where Wolves players come from, as long as they help us win shiny things!!
Henrietta the psychic slug predicts ENGLAND 4 GERMANY 3. England will be 3-0 down with an hour gone. A desperate Gareth Southgate throws on Conor Coady with 10 minutes to go and Conor scores all four England goals with headers from free kicks and corners and a shot from Greasy which deflects in off Coadys arse. So get ths beers in and prepare for thrills and spills at Wembley. I’ve already booked next Wednesday off.
Are you going to be watching Iggy and the Stooges tonight Cheesey?
I’ve been loving the BBC Glastonbury progs the last couple of days.
Can’t wait to get to a live gig again!
Yes mate. I saw that on at 10pm. Massive fan of The Stooges. I remember The Sex Pistols did a cover of ‘No fun’ . B side of Pretty Vacant. Just a question of whether I can see the telly when I get back in from the boozer lata! Yes live gigs cant come back soon enough. I used to regularly go down the Robin 2 Bilston before lockdown. Such a shame.
Crystal Palace, Everton, and now, Tottenham?
Raising his skirts like a West Park hooker to any passing director of football, Nuno is beginning to look a little desperate.
Where did the dignity go?
I agree, it all looks unseemly and out of character. Probably all media stirring and I would like to hear Nuno’s take on all of it. He’s at home enjoying time with his family and I hope he keeps his powder dry and waits for a ‘project’ which fires his ambition, not necessarily in the PL.
To use your analogy WTF, I think it’s his pimp mendes that is doing the rounds on his behalf. However, I think it demonstrates the control he exerts and may go some way to explaining how last season’s transfers panned out as they did. In the current structure I don’t think we will reach the levels we aspire to until a manager directs mendes rather than the other way round. Can you imagine Ferguson, guardiola or Klopp taking instruction from an agent like Nuno does with mendes?
Agree Sutton very good point, Mendez has to much sway and I don’t see that changing under Bruno in fact it seems to have got worse
Reports in French press FOSUN looking at buying Boredow cannot spell it…but you know who I mean.
If that’s true……why….and how will that effect Wolves…?
If that rumour is true about Bordeaux, I think that could have a beneficial effect for wolves in the long run. Having different clubs under fosun ownership in Europe gives them flexibility to move players around which not only can act as a nursery for talent but can also carry ffp advantages. It also gives proximity to a market for talent that can be bought cheaply I.e. France has one of the best teams in the world but the domestic league does not carry the same world presence therefore talent can be bought more cheaply. I guess the potential downside is that It also gives fosun more potential for accessing the champions league revenue stream for less investment I.e getting wolves in to the top four in England will need more investment than what would probably be required to do so in France
Sutton, I think they need to show us Wolves fans they are serious about taking us into top six like they promised when they first rocked up.
I can only see it having a negative effect on Wolves ie investment wise they are not exactly pulling out all the stops as it is never mind having another football club to fund.
Let’s Wait until the transfer window slams shut before we start complaining, eh?
Give them a chance and a break!
Agreed..
The cogs will be turning and players being looked at.
Contracts of the current players scrutinised.
Think back a few years before the internet when we heard very little after the season ended.
Now here we are with the ability to search ,stream and look down every dark crevice to get so much information.
Any business owner will be looking for ways to become more successful than the rest.
And
Breathe…
Judge the owners when there is something to judge them on not until
Paul I agree with Clive in that the best time to make judgements is after the window closes. You may be proven right but hold fire as things will start to accelerate from mid July onwards. Not easy to stay patient I know when we all want to have confidence ahead of the new season. Keep the faith!
I think we all agree that he was sacked.
What’s wrong with trying to get another job?
If clubs are willing to talk with him, fair do’s I say.
I think most of us, if we lost our job, would do anything we could to get another.
Not me. I am happily retired.
Hopefully that should be the last of a Robbie Savage commentary, including saying that the welsh team should try cynical fouls during the group stages.
Only sorry for the little welsh boy fast asleep in the fathers arms during the Denmark game, obviously all too much for him.
Dutch gone. Germans next. Never doubt Henrietta the psychic slug.
And Wolves reserves!!!
Thought Diogo was shite.
Glad we sold him!!
Thing was Clive in that season when we got 7th and slogged it out in Europa most fans were of the opinion Jota was shit. So quite ironic we sold him and he became a superstar. Can only call it as I see it.
Jota, like Traore, is an enigma. In my opinion both have the talent to be world class, which neither are, yet. But it takes more than talent to get there. There has to be the hard work, mental strength, application, perseverance, determination, maturity etc. Plus the right manager/coach to act as a mentor.
If Rui goes we could always try for the Spanish goal keeper
He’d need to learn how to trap the ball though.
What a BRILLIANT evening of football.
England take note.
I was in Asda yesterday, and I saw this little old lady struggling with five bags of shopping.
I said ” can you manage?’
And she replied ” Yes, but I don’t want the Spurs job”
For you……the GAME……is OVER.
The Germans have been Mullered by a nation of shop keepers
For you … the VAR …… is OVER.
They think it’s all over. It is now…
I have a great recipe for sauerkraut if anyone would like it.
Well done England but I stopped being a fan in September 1994 when our marvellous supporters couldn’t even observe one minutes silence on behalf of Billy Wright. Never been able to support them since. A totally different subject: When Wolves negotiated Nunos’s severance package why wasn’t there a clause to prevent him joining another Premiership side? My belief is that Wolves will now be in direct competition for Mendes clients with Tottenham if this appointment is confirmed.
You don’t get the choice of being a fan or not do you? It’s our country isn’t it? Anyway, not many of today’s fans would have been at the 1994 game.
It’s not the fans you are supporting, it’s the team.
Why stop supporting your country just because some brain deads can’t keep quiet?
Every country, and every club, have a minority of cretins in tow.
If we all took them personally, there would be no supporters left.
I think such a clause would be illegal under restraint of trade.
You’re probably right about the clause being in restraint of trade. But, it’s unlawful rather than illegal…
What’s the difference between unlawful and illegal? Answer, one is something that is contrary to law. The other is a sick bird!
Think they refer to it as gardening leave but I can’t help feeling Wolves have been stitched on this one.
So, Nuno to Spurs, and our first home opponents of next season!
You couldn’t make this shit up!!
O think that you probably could. And no, I’m not going there !
I don’t often make predictions on what is going to happen on the great Premier League managerial roundabout.
But on the Nuno to Spurs move I will make an exception..
IT WILL END IN TEARS!!!!
The only thing I’m not quite sure of is whether they will be blue and white or old gold and black ones.
Thoughts on Nuno being appointed by Spurs:
1) I wish him all the best. A very decent man who always gave of his best to wolves.
2) there is no doubt now that he was sacked by us. The concept of mutual agreement based on him wanting more time with his family, him being exhausted by the whole lockdown experience etc is exposed for the myth it was
3) what transpires at Spurs will shine a very strong light on the what has been/is going on at wolves. Daniel levy is definitely no mug . The trio of Nuno, mendes and fosun will not apply and so it will be fascinating to see how their transfer policy operates and the results it generates versus our own
4) it would be great if Nuno can engineer Semedo going to Spurs and Doherty plus £20m differential returning to us- at least it will give us more spending money this summer and more goals and assists next season.
Sir Bobby Charlton was asked recently how he thinks the World Cup winning team from 1966 would fare against the current England team.
He said they would win 1-0
Only 1 – 0 ? asked the reporter.
Yes, we are all in our seventies now.
Who will Nuno be coming back for?
And who will we get from Spurs?
I think that he will enjoy working with some great players and (supposedly) having greater freedom.
Who’d ever have imagined spurs employing a manager sacked by the Wolves
There’s a weird sort of kudos in Spurs hiring a manager sacked by Wolves. Maybe someone has miscalculated. I can’t recall Spurs snapping up Dean Saunders, Mick McCarthy, Kenny Jackett etc. Funny that.
Want him to be successful.. although Levy’s the elephant in the lane.
Will be great to see him getting them playing exiting football although it being with spurs does make me wonder why we let him go.
Who knows… certainly not me
I was one of Nuno’s biggest supporters and was sad to see him go. But he is the enemy now as he will be when Spurs step on our turf in August. I do wish him well, but it is time to move on and get on with the new era. And Henrietta the psychic slug says ENGLAND 2 UKRAINE 1.
Sue, the psychic wife, says England 5 Ukraine 1.
But she doesn’t know the LBW laws, so I wouldn’t put money on it.
Be sure to get the new vaccination for the Indian delta variant.
It’s called the Punjab.
I’ve spilt 3 beers down me shirt, and I’m dribbling…….54 years of hurt,.I’ll never stop drinking,
The wife coming home……she’s coming home……..she’s coming …………the wife is coming home .
Come on me BABIES……!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!!
Great performance and result from the 3 Lions………could it really be coming home..?
I do like the look of our three signings if you include Ait-Nouri; They seem to be exciting prospects.
However a couple of experienced guys, to my mind, would leave me a lot happier, and especially down the spine of the team.
Also it will be far better when those leaving do so and the sooner the better, but at good prices, which is where the haggling takes some time. There have been so many rumours about so many players to worry about, or not, I feel we could end up with some not actually leaving, at least at present.
I keep looking to see whether the Season Tickets are available yet even though I know we will be notified as soon as. July 19th will, hopefully, give us more insight as to how the allocation will pan out.
The preseason games will be on Wolves TV, which I am starting to get excited about and the thought that I may be able to attend games at Molineux under the new regime is great. I can almos hear the Molineux roar, Which I can remember hearing loudly on Bantock Park whilst playing in the 1960s.
Here’s to good times coming back…
P.S. Personally glad that we turned down Newcastle’s bid for Sanderson. I would like to see how he performs in The Premier League as I’ve always been impressed by him…
I see the Season Tickets are going on sale from Monday now. Living so far from Wolvy, often leaves me behind events concerning Molineux…
I shall be very interested to see:-
1) Will the sale be based on a full Molineux, or will there be social distancing rules.
2) If full, will we be offered the same seats.
3) At what price.
4) How do we get recompensed for missed home league games and the Olympiakos Europa Cup match.
That will help us decide whether we renew this season.
DOOG they have reduced the price, not sure about the Olympiakos ticket I bought. But quite reduction on the revised pricing. Sitting in the middle section of the North Bank has 2 steep things too, the steps up and the new price.
Well, that’s strange; no tickets on sale and yet I saw a report that said so!!! Might learn more after Johnson’s press conference, or did I dream that too?
Wrong!!!
I had to wait until after 6.00pm over here, but now…………………………..
HAPPY FRIGGIN’ 50TH BIRTHDAY, BENNY BOY!!!
So it looks to me like the probable / likely changes to the squad are:
Bruno for Nuno
Sa for Patricio
Ait Nouri for Vinagre
Trincao for Traore
Paulinha for Neves
Mosquera for Sanderson
Cash positive for Trincao/Traore (even if loan becomes buy) and Paulinha /Neves (and almost certainly saving on wages for Bruno / Nuno & team and Sa / Patricio)
Possibles
Tarkowski for Coady
Vinicius for Mir
Interesting swap options giving like-for-like with positive cash flow. But Vinicius for Mir would be a bonus as Mir has been on loan, in effect giving us an additional guaranteed first team player. In fact Mosquera for Sanderson almost falls into that category, with Mosquera earmarked for the first team squad. I’d prefer that Bruno takes a good long look at Sanderson before pressing the sell button though. A million-ish for Sanderson sounds like no money at all, and given Newcastle’s interest, let’s not be hasty. If we’re still undecided, loan him to a championship club. One problem is that Sanderson hasn’t signed a new contract.
Season ticket renewed 41 years in U183 the new stand (old habits die hard) continues.
Look forward to finally meeting up with fellow bloggers in the Steve Bull, or Combermere Arms, or wherever you guys all meet pre-match
Nick’s Place
Houston, but probably a bit far for y’all to come!!
Clive when we can travel again and I need to be stateside I will take that offer up. I owe you a beer for the Houston Wolves sticker!! Anyway how come you weren’t interviewed for the WWFC overseas supporters podcast that came from Houston.
Cheers. Steve
Aka Marnhull Wolves
Renewed mine too Marnhull. I am in Steve Bull Upper U104. See you on the 22nd Aug?
Awesome Brompton, look forward to seeing you
Got my email. 433 quid in NB upper right behind goal. Marvellous view. Will I renew ? Too f**kin right I will. Wolves ay we!
That works out at under £23.00 a match. Gotta be happy with that. I certainly am.
Did anyone see the option to include 2 cup games? I tried that but the website didn’t seem to like it and gave me some jumbo jumb6so I gave up and just went for the £433 option.
I see that Sterling is still at his diving antics which should please Clive.
Nuno had a dream.
Nuno has a double. Check out the attached picture of Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter.
Who is this Nuno that you reference?
I only recognise Bruno.
The picture looks like Ming the Merciless to me.
Henrietta the psychic slug says: ENGLAND 3 ITALY 2 (AET).
What do you feed Henrietta on Cheesey?
Does ‘she love the pizza, she love the pasta’
Or is she into good old English Roast Beef?
Obviously English Roast Beef mate. Probably why she is a bit biased. It all gets a bit fraught when Next Door neighbours cat is about. Henrietta takes refuge in a large chrysanthemum on the wall where the cat cant see her. Henrietta will be issuing a Wolves pre season prediction shortly.
RIP Paul Mariner. A familiar name in Bobby Robson’s great Ipswich Town side.
I second that memory of the great Paul Mariner; RIP. I’ve lived in Suffolk since 1973 and used to go and watch that great team of Bobby Robson’s when not playing myself, catching the Wolves’ games of course. That really was a good team, but I’m Wolves through and through and spent many a time in Portman Road shouting for my team and getting funny looks from the Ipswich supporters whom I stood or sat amongst in those days of non segregation. When were fans first segregated?
