If you’re anything like me, the new year will have you contemplating the last 12 months and what lies ahead from a personal, professional and societal perspective.
Naturally, such philosophising extends to the beautiful game and yesterday’s rip roaring, top of the table clash will no doubt have left many dreaming of a bright future for Wolves.
Rightly so, given the quality of opposition and context of our turnaround victory.
Just as the stars align in order to usher in a new year, so it seemed they were conspiring against Nuno and his charges in the early throes of this contest.
After an enthusiastic Robins side drew two excellent saves from John Ruddy in the early throes of this contest, things went from bad to worse as Danny Batth was given his marching orders by referee Peter Bankes.
My view, though partisan, was that the skipper played the ball and that any card shown should have been yellow.
That being said, the benefit of hindsight and an innate desire to play devil’s advocate would lead me to suggest that, in the context of this oh so modern game, a red may have been warranted due to the fact that it was actually Batth’s kamikaze first touch that led to him needing to make a challenge in the first place.
Either way, it was a game changing moment that left the home crowd and their effortlessly grating manager baying for blood.
Nuno’s dismissal to the stands was another bitter pill to swallow and left the impression that Bankes, like Stephen Martin before him, wanted to make himself newsworthy in front of the Sky cameras and an enemy of all those in old gold and black.
Despite these travails, City were repressed by an excellent defensive showing and the game remained locked at the interval.
That soon changed when Bobby Reid benefitted from a wild deflection that left Ruddy helpless and the home side in the ascendancy.
It all felt eerily reminiscent to our defeat to Sheffield United and Helder Costa’s errant display up front (surely his worst in a Wolves shirt) meant seldom were forecasting a fightback.
Thankfully, there was another chapter of this story to be told and the introduction of Ivan Cavaleiro saw us build momentum and eventually find a route back into the game.
Frank Fielding’s terrible impersonation of Manuel Neur saw him receive his marching orders and levelled the playing field, with Barry Douglas’ subsequent free kick deflecting past City’s substitute goalkeeper and leaving the scores tied ahead of a frenetic final act.
With chances scuppered by both sides on account of tired legs all round, it appeared the game was only going to be won by the team with the bigger appetite for victory.
Thankfully, this side are a ravenous bunch and another sumptuous set piece from Douglas allowed Ryan Bennet to head home the most delirious of winning goals.
Cue pandemonium on the pitch, in the stands and, in the case of me and my family, the living room of a quaint holiday cottage in Padstow.
It was truly a moment to saviour in this most cherished of seasons, with Nuno’s wild celebrations in the Ashton Gate executive area set to be a crowning moment in our recent history and a hugely popular GIF amongst Wolves fans.
What can be achieved by the club in the next 12 months, given our meteoric rise over the 2017/18 season to date, is anyone’s guess but, as is so often the case with our club, it’s safe to assume it won’t make for dull viewing.
A belated merry Christmas to you all, and a Happy New Year.
A performance that defined the current Wolves club (not just team or squad). Faced with adversity they dug in deep to stabilise the situation yet still found themselves a goal down. A courageous decision by Doherty to make a surging run and a precision pass from Cavaleiro turned the match on it head and from then on there was only going to be one winner, (tho’ I doubt many had money on Bennett to score it). Fair do’s to City, they didn’t try to kick us off the park but in reality up against 10 they didn’t create very much – testament to our well-structured defence. As for Barry Douglas’ left-foot – I want to have its babies…
Watched the game on Sky, first impression was what the fuck was Nuno doing picking DB before Bennett. Mood not improved by Batth being sent off (correctly in my opinion as an ex-ref) for a totally stupid studs up challenge. Question is he the new Muscat? Please Nuno get rid of him in the January sales. Surely he would be some use to the shit down the road.
Then Nuno gets sent to the stands cue more wrath in our lounge, with the missus telling me and Border wolf to calm down. She then decides to go home early as she can’t take much more tension. Douglas then nearly give me a heart attack with his free kick against the post.
Second half Reid scores and I start to think game over, the Costa subbed and game changed completely. Fielding gets sent off, text to Border wolf (by now in Pizza Hut in Shrewsbury) with
message of news the Douglas scores with his free kick and wife has to open bottle of wine to calm me down.
Fast forward to last minute of added on time and we get a free kick on edge of box. Sky show close up of Douglas preparing to take the kick. One look at his eyes and I thought bloody hell he will score this. He didn’t but Bennett did cue absolute bedlam from me what the hell who cares. Final whistle, Nuno celebrating like a madman. 10 points clear at the top. Bloody brilliant.
Thanks for the report Ben, you obviously enjoyed it as much as the rest of us.
For the record Border wolf absolutelly pissed off to have missed it but happy not to have had a heart attack.
Happy New Year to all bloggers. The PL approaches very rapidly, at this rate Nuno will be planning his next season by the end of March. Long may it last.
COYW & FoWB
Not a fan of DB but he is not a dirty player and thug like Muscat was.
Maybe not but he is as big a liability as Muscat
Imo,I don’t think it was a sending off at best a yellow card for me.saying that wolves are going to appeal. I’m not a DB fan also.
Talking about his character not skill level as I said not a fan of his
OODCL – just sayin !!!!
Happy New Year to all bloggers.
Mark the date on your calendar gents. Nothing can or will stop us now.
From agony to ecstacy !
What a performance… what a game… what a fantastic bunch of lads we have at this club – no more so than Santo Claus himself !
My baby girl arrived in early November and I think Wolves have been unbeaten since which sees me living a blissful reverie, a sort of surreal cloud nine sort of existence which is unknown territory for a miserable bastard like me.
But it IS real ! The club has made bold decisions, astute signings and the Molineux faithful who only needed a sniff of aspiration from the board to help send us into orbit !
10 points clear at the end of the year – nothing but excitement and gratitude looking forward to 2018
Thank you Jeff Shi and FOsun
Thank you mr Santo
Thank you every single Wolves player (including Danny Batth)
And Thank you Wolves fans around the world for making this club as great as it is.
oh and thank you Wolvesblog for the tireless effort and great posts… and simply being the best blog around
Happy NYE all
Absolutely fantastic stuff .We are PL bound .Exciting times for sure .My only worry is Nuno being enticed elsewhere but I get the feeling he loves this project and we will have him for at least our first season in the PL .
For all these great living room/pub celebration antics believe me this was one you had to be at. We took over a pub dead close to the ground filling it with song and good humour and at the match we were making so much noise in the away end we couldn’t hear the City fans the whole 90 except when they scored; the 3500 of us collectively went through the emotional wringer with good humour thinking it was Sheffield United all over again but then Bazza scored the free kick (unlike Neves missing the pen a few months back) and it was game on… just had the feeling we’d get a winner and sweet it went in right at the death… I would’ve taken a draw but after being pelted with coins and lighters by City fans as they left the stadium (one hit a friend, one narrowly missed my 8 year old son) I’m soooo glad we beat them. Get yer champagne ready, only an unlikely run of unlucky injuries can stop us… BTW Mr Warnock well you are right it’s certainly a long cold winter in the UK, your Malaysians can’t cope with that well it seems, oh dear what a pity how sad never mind
Brilliant Wolves just brilliant. No need to comment because it’s all been said already. However on Neil Warnock and his comments remember he said just a short time ago:
Wait till the clocks go back and the Winter sets in and lets see where Wolves are then
and
There is no one outstanding team in the Championship this year, like Newcastle were last year.
Now look where Wolves are and where his team are, having lost three on the trot in this so very cold Winter.
What a guy,go and do one.
UTW and roll on Brentford, cant wait
Watched the game in the pub and agony to ecstasy doesn’t come close. When Batth had an early bath, I thought we were done for. When Reid scored their opener I was even more convinced.
But Cav’s introduction changed everything, and when their keeper saw red and Bazza stuck it in the net, there was only gonna be one winner. It seemed to me that Danny’s red was harsh, to say the least. He hit the ball full on and his foot finally contacted the Bristolians foot, not his knee, or shin, or even ankle. On this basis, getting an opponent sent off is the easiest thing in the world. Wait till he kicks it, then stick your foot in the way of the follow through.
Absolute mayhem in the pub when Bennett notched the winner, not least from the solitary Robins fan who had seemed so smug earlier.
Overall, a great game, brill evening in the pub with my fellow fans and boy, do I have a head this morning.
Totally agree with your assessment of the ref card for Batth. But the injustice of it was corrected very neatly & nicely in the 94th minute. I watched it on the box in a local boozer & our initial reaction was how can that be red? On the playback it’s as you say the Brizzle players foot arrived after Batth had his foot on the ball.
Great great result & this Wolves team are something very special indeed.
Wolves Ay We
Still tingling now from a fantastic match.
I spent the afternoon with my 92 year old mother, sister and nephew and got back home just in time to see the last two minutes of the game on Sky.
Oh! My hat!
Oh! My Sainted aunt!
So this is what Christmas used to feel like.
The most important three points of the season so far, and probably the win that will ultimately secure us promotion.
The one thing that saddens me is that it seems to be in the nature of some fans to always need to have a scapegoat or hate figure in the team.
If the players in question are taking the piss or not giving their all for the cause I have no problem with that.
Roger Johnson and Jamie O’Hara spring to mind.
But when the objects of derision are loyal servants who, if you cut them, would bleed gold blood, it it just seems a bit sad.
There have been three in the last few years. I don’t need to name them here.
Two have gone and the third may well be on his way at the end of the season.
They might not be the greatest footballers in the World but It would be nice to celebrate what they have done for the club and the City.
The Danny Batth sending off has split opinion. So called ‘experts’ can’t agree so I don’t expect we all will.
My opinion is yellow card.
Finally, no matter what we all think, we can all agree on one thing.
It’s looking pretty damn good for next season!
Happy New Year to all!!
Mark,
I do admit to being one of the “sell Batth” brigade. It was not so much the sending off but he was already showing a liability by failing to clear in the build up to the two fantastic saves Ruddy had to make. Anyway, he was replaced by the winning goal scorer. I don’t rate Batth and I hope he is moved on. I respect his commitment and his desire and his work rate, but, I am fearful of his mistakes that ocurr too often.
Enough of that. What a match. Nailbiting stuff. I, along with many other fans, feel this result is probably the most important one of the season. And I could watch Nuno celebrate over and over – brilliant.
Happy New Year to you and Sue
Cheers Steve. Same to you and Gill!
Are you down for the Swansea game?
Afraid not. My next one is at Barnsley.
I’m with you on the hate figure Doog, we are a team and that includes everyone who is trying there best for the cause. Onwards and upwards together.
Totally agree with you on the slating given out to some of our own players. I just don’t get it at all.
As I said further above not a fan of DB but would never slate the guy because his work ethic and obvious love for the club is evident for all to see. I have said on many occasions this season I don’t think he is a good enough footballer or can read the game well enough. For me this is fair comment and what blogs/forums are all for, expressing ones opinion without vitriolic abuse. The squad with a couple of minor alterations would be knocking on the top 6 Prem door this season but for that to happen next year (we must firstly get promoted) but we must also lose any feelings of sentiment and do what is for the greater good.
In my mind Batth’s tackle was never a red. A yellow perhaps, his own clumbsiness and lack of control which we have come to expect. At this rate you cannot make a tackle any longer.
I played full back for 10+ years at a competitive amateur level and never got booked once. I don’t think I’d last a match today.
Anyway on to better things, from agony to ecstasy – I think we played our get out of jail card yesterday. Cavaleiro totally changed the game in our favour and simply has to start. Helda to come on as sub and get more match practice.
This was the defining moment – this is the one that makes promotion a certainty – the God’s willing!
At the risk of being lynched by my fellow Portuhamptons I thought the ref had a good game. Very difficult with a lot of big decisions which on balance were generally correct. Anyway it was a great game to watch and the result was a belter. It’s certainly a happy new year for me and I wish all of you the same. I’m now starting to save up for a ticket to the Emirates next season, Christ knows how much that’s going to be but it will be worth it.
I totally agree with you, Wight Wolf. I thought he ref had a very good game with a lot of thought decisions.
I thought he was spot on with both red cards (I think the game has just changed and you get sent off for such challenges in the modern game. He was also spot on with giving a free kick not a penalty.
A lot was also made of him being the ref who sent Coady off in the Sheff Utd game but I thought he got that decision right too.
It was a great game, great drama and hopefully we’re on our way!
I also apologise for my auto correct…it turns out if you can’t decide between tight and tough your phone gives you thought ?
I’ve had some …’ I was there’ moments this year and last night I’m putting into the …’I wish I had been there’.
Watched it …. OH YES.
Without summarising the game …. I thought Batth should only have received a yellow … but from a referees point without video replays …then perhaps yes a red.
From then on I thought we fought like men to contain a good City side and going 0-1 down .. perhaps another defeat was on the cards. ….then the CAVALEIRO masterstroke.
What a game changer …. and from then on IMO there was only going to be one winner… WOLVES … AY WE….
What a deserved 3 points and most importantly widening the gap between us and the 3rd placed team…. 11 points gap ….what’s not to smile about that ….
Keep focused boys … Sunderland away looks like a big big party time… LETS ALL HAVE A DISCO ..DA DA DA DA….
Twix, I’m with you all the way!
Great post and just to let anyone thinking of booking hotel for Sunderland to book soon they’re being snapped up.
Jamie Vardy should come up to that to see what a real Black Country party is all about!
D.I.S.C.O
Stuey, Bedford, Newark and ourselves are booked into the Hilton Garden Inn …next to the ground… let’s us know where you are or will be and we’ll party …!!
One more thing that shot of Nuno at the end really finished off the night for me, bloody brilliant. Any truth in the rumour that he has been barred from the Bristol directors box?
On the first day of Christmas Nino Santos said to me
ONE JOHN RUDDY
and Alan Pardew in the bottom three
On the second day of Christmas Nuno Santos said to me
TWO MATT DOHERTY
ONE JOHN RUDDY
AND Alan pardew in the bottom three
On the third day of Christmas nuno santos said to me
THREE BARRY DOUGLAS
TWO MATT DOHERTY
ONE JOHN RUDDY
And Alan pardew in the bottom three
On the Fourth day of Christmas nuno santos said to me
FOUR CONOR COADY
THREEBARRY DOUGLAS
TWO MATT DOHERTY
ONE JOHN RUDDY
And Alan pardew in the bottom three
On the Fith day of Christmas nuno santos said to me
FIVE Willy BOLY
FOUR CONOR COADY
THREE BARRY DOUGLAS
TWO…………..
You only got one hand to count on???
You gotta love that Nino!
They all get battered when El Nuno comes to town!
No mate .. had to go and fix the extractor fan in the kitchen .. stop her moaning on
.. I was having a lovely time sitting on the trap singing that to myself and she went and ruined it
Some s**t being spouted by Bristolians this morning;
Lee Johnson – ‘the player has gone over the ball a little bit’
http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-citys-lee-johnson-admits-993374
and
‘he was shown a straight red card on 14 minutes for a two-footed lunge’ – local journalist
http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/bristol-city-1-wolves-2-992604
It was neither two-footed nor over the ball. Having said that if it had been made on a Wolves player I would have been hoping for a red card.
That had to be a performance of CHAMPIONS,and the only thing to stop us is ourselves.Fair enough to bring Bathh on to rest a player, but giving him the armband,l don’t know what that meant to Cody.Jota needs resting before he incurs injury,as he is off the pace.Happy new year to the fans is a given.
Hopefully you can view this. Loved Nuno at the end.

Well I was there.
Never once did I feel we would lose, even when we went a goal down, the guys just got tighter at the back and the passing through the City defence just got orgasmic.
I want to make an observation that perhaps goes unnoticed on a tv showing, the amount of work the guys put in, covering, tracking back, tracking across the pitch and flowing forwards in numbers was commendable. They worked their lardy arse, Portuguese, don’t do cold wet and wintery socks off. But one in particular that truly impressed me last night was Neves, I was really impressed with his workrate, energy, tackling and sheer delicious eye for passing a game winning pass.
This game will live long in my memory box, along with 3500 others I was jumping up and down like a demented scotsman who’d just been told of free beer at Tesco’s. Feckin brilliant, pure heart and grit from the lads,
I’m going to be really honest here. I didn’t think Brizzle were anything exceptional last night, I was shocked, it was summed up in a quote from Lee Johnson, “ I thought we dominated the game up until the goalie got sent off” Well no shit Sherlock, you had 11 feckin men up to that point. Strange how Wolves came back into it when the sides were equal.
As Nuno said when asked about promotion, “On to Brentford”
The game was a roller-coaster of emotions, up/down/up/down/up/down/up!!
……………but the ride was certainly worth it! I will never, ever, forget the sheer passion shown by Nuno when Bennett scored! He may come across as a calm and quiet person in interviews but boy did we not see the real reason we are were we are!
As my twitter account says “Supporting the Wolves is never dull” 🙂 A’int that a fact?!!
Onwards we march
As we walked out of pride park I said that we would win the league by 10 points and I have not seen anything since to change my mind other than possibly making it 20 points. On to the next game and let’s do the same in the second half of the season. As for the passion shown by Nuno proper wolf ay he
What a game! Game changed with caveleiros first touch that got Doherty in behind. I too was surprised that batth started ahead of Bennett. I must admit I’d thought we’d had it after they scored and were passing it round the back with neither Costa or jota putting any pressure on, but cue caveleiro and the game got turned on its head. Caveleiro is such a big game player, what a man. Fair play to the 3500 there, all I heard was them lot singing all the way through even when we was a goal down before caveleiros introduction, must have been a right party after Bennet had scored. I think this game will be a defining moment for us.
Wait till the clocks go back and winter sets in and it’s cold and wet and let’s see where Wolves are then.
Well Mr Warnock we are top of the table by 10 points, 11 points ahead of the third placed team, unbeaten in 10 games and three places – and several light years – ahead of your bunch of cloggers, hoofers and kickers.
OODCL
Firstly a big thank you to the Wolves Blog team for keeping a load of ode Wolves gits trying to keep up with modern tech by posting blogs, photos, et all. For that I’m eternally greatful & long may it continue.
With regard to the game, due to family reasons I had to return my tickets on Friday so didn’t get to say “I was there!” But next best option was watching this with a beer with my bro, nephews & son in law to be (Liverpool fan ?)
Brilliant support again lads, if there were points for away support we’d be more than 10 points clear.
What a game, what a team (to a man), what a coach, what a owner/chairman.
Pride & Passion is probably the DNA of all supporters but I can’t ever recall the amount of pride I have that at the minute.
Wolves are going up & the Shite are going down.
I wish everyone remotely connected to Wolves & everyone on this fantastic blog a healthy, wealthy & peaceful New Year
Wolves fekin Ay We ????
According to a piece in the Cardiff Advertiser, Colin sez: “we’ll see how this Wolves team copes when the clocks go back and they lose an hour of their siesta”….?
The words straws and clutching come to mind.
I posted the other Week that if we took out brizzle we’re up and after last night’s performance I’m convinced. We have derby and Sheffield at Molineux (a Nuno constucted citadel far removed from the years of nervous ditherers scared to play in front of their own fans!) And we’re too strong now.
Btw, I notice that somebody on the internet and the E&S has already started sanitizing footage of Nuno in the directors box where their directors get him bounced and Jeff has to step in to calm him down! Fantasric!!!
Catch it while you can!
UTW
And yeah, I did mean forward….
Too much excitement I think chaps
I’ve been a recent Wolverhampton fan, since Nuno signed for the club, but I’ve been following the club’s adventures enthusiastically on a weekly basis. And yesterday I suffered, blasphemed and rejoiced as if it were the Champions League final and there was my club, FC Porto.
What a game.! What a finish!
I jumped off my couch, shouting uncontrollably at the winning goal, and I confess my wife thought I was having a fit. There is still too much championship, with tough opponents, but the future looks bright.
Happy New Year to all. My wishes are simple: That FC Porto win in Portugal and Wolves will tread the path it deserves, towards the Premier League.
Cheers mate.
Best of luck to Porto too!
Happy new year.
Welcome to the blog Paulo. Hope to see you at Molineux sometime.
Obrigado Paulo. We are all Portuguese now. 🙂
Great for the 3500 who made the trip. In a few years the number claiming to be there will, maybe, have risen to 20000.
Before the game said on this site the game would be pivotal and to go down 1-0 with ten men and then to come back made it doubly so.
Given the brilliant performance last night my next point is going to seem close to blasphemy. I thought before kick off NES’s decision to start DB was a mistake and sadly so it proved. I also think Helda was kept on too long, he was not at his glorious best nor is he equipped to play the role of lone striker.
But I loved the game, I love Nuno, the entire squad, Mr Shi and Fosun.
Happy New Year to all fellow bloggers, I love you too.
Absolutely brilliant. An outstanding performance from superbly coached and motivated TEAM.
Just one objective [ and sober ] comment the next day. Irrespective of the rights or wrong of DB`s dismissal, the fact is that he should be nowhere near inclusion in this side. He is simply not good enough. Period. Ryan Bennett is by far the superior defender. His performance last night was outstanding — the perfect complement for Boly and Coady.
But now is the time not the time to nit pick. Rather it is the time to appreciate the magnitude of our progress under Nuno. To have come this far in just half a season is unbelievable. How good it is to be a true Wolves supporter.
Wishing you all a healthy and prosperous 2018
First match attended this season, and what a match. Having lost a player and down 1-0 I thought I could have been in for a 4th 2-0 defeat in row to witness with my 10 year old son. (We don’t get to many games) But finally, our luck had changed and I’ve never seen a boy so happy! Happy days!
These last two games have been real Xmas crackers. Thought we played really clever football when down to 10 men and did very well to stay in the game. I’ve heard that after Sheff Utd we’ve been training 10 v 11 to be able to cope being a man down. When Bristol had a man sent off we looked like the only winners as we put them under some pressure.
For me Batth was a yellow card at best but other than that thought the referee got the rest spot on.
Roll on the second half of the season and happy new year to all.
First time at Robinsons pool and gym for a while …..overheard in the changing rooms this morning. Two geezers having a natter…
“Catch the United game?”
“Well.. Yea but it was garbage. So turned over after a while and watched two real football teams having a right ding dong”.
As I intimated in the build up blog Bristol City v Wolves will win the tv duel hands down v (yawn) Manure v Southampton (yawn) zzzzzzz.
What a finish oh boy it was simply unbelievable.
Oh joy is me.
It was Roy of the Rovers stuff and to see the 3,500 Wolves fans behind the goal go ape shit was absolutely wonderful. The supporters were quite magnificent throughout the game.
Well done Nuno and the team – never say die or what!
I was cursing and praising – praising and cursing as the emotions took hold. (You know – oh Shit when a pass went astray – oh bollox when they scored – oh get fucking in at the equaliser – oh AMALIA – my missus was in the kitchen – we have won it BLOODY won it when Bennett nodded the winner).
See you on Tuesday bloggers – departing Bedford about 3pm for another episode in this amazing season of dramas.
BOG
Bog, you missed an away day to remember, unbelivable. When we scored the winner Shaun went balistic and threw his £85 jacket into the air, we never saw it again, Feckin priceless.
If you fancy half a lemonade on Tuesday will be in the NBB, usual corner. H N Y.
Happy New Year to and yours.
Expensive goal Witley but great story.
If must have been absolutel bedlam when the second went in.
Thanks for info re NBB before the game tomorrow but I think we are eating at the Thai restaurant.
Hope to see you at Barnsley.
All the best
BOG
I just groaned when I saw not only DB playing but to get sent off too …for my own record.. I’ve slated him enough over2 seasons quite simply Mr Brierly Hill can’t keep up with the standard and should of been sold 2 seasons ago ..He’s a great embasander for the club but we’ve gone up 2 levels..
Good luck to him.
So ..we came back from a dead situation and put in a champions performance..I thought Ruddy should of got their goal too but when we levelled 10 men each We just looked in a different league which of course we will be nxt yr..
Douglas looks every part a PL player he seems to take a lot of free kicks now what a fantastic ball onto Bennetts head..
Most players are firing well.. Costa still misfiring ..
I’m wondering who will stay as main players in the PL it’s
fantastic now but Fosun will spend huge Imo in the close season it’s almost confusing to take it all in now and what also is coming..
Anyway we are steaming this championship and it is probably down to Mendes.. he’s influenced the acquisition of Neves, Boly, Saiss,Cav,Costa,Miranda,Bonatini,Jota..AND Nuno..!!
I’m grateful.
Wolves are seriously back.. prob as champions and I think this season is just the first chapter of huge events and changes to come..
Happy new year to all and here’s to 2018.
Even the Mrs is taking notice.
This is a huge reflection on how far wolves have come and
a solid benchmark of our current success.
She is not a football officianrdo/ pundit or is she a pompous follower of the top 4.She is my wife who has to live and deal with my moods and moaning.
The roar of pure exhilaration as Bennet headed home yesterday made her run in to de If was ok!
In my delirium I just explained the meaning of 10 points clear and explained the last 12 months , the dreamlike scenario.
When I did , I finally realized it is real and not a dream.
Happy new year everyone.
And happy new Wolves.
To see if I was ok, should read
I understand that Lee Johnson said before the game that he wanted to send a message to the rest of the league when he took on Wolves. Not sure quite what message he had in mind, but he certainly succeeded in delivering the message that nothing and nobody will stop us, and they can give up or die trying. I hope he had enough lemon juice for his tea this morning to soothe his heartburn and indigestion! 🙂
One of my favorite Sci-Fi books is Ender’s Game, and there is a scene in this book when Ender is confronted in the bathroom by the opposing team he had just beaten in a battle simulation, and attacked by their captain. Ender proceeds not only to defend himself or even beat his opponent, but to keep on beating him to an inch of his life. When asked why he continued to beat him even when it was clear he’d won and his opponent no longer posed him danger, his answer was that he was not just trying to win that fight, but all fights that may have followed; to ensure nobody ever even thought of challenging him again.
I think in some ways Wolves did that yesterday. We were confronted by the rest of the league wanting to catch us; their leader making statements on reducing the gap and showing them all they can beat us; the ref sending off one of our players early on in the game … . But Wolves fought back and won it with class, right at the death, despite playing most of the game a man down. Message loud and clear … send who you want, when you want, where you want. Anyone else wants a piece of us? 🙂 This is our title this year!
Seriously, and effects of my Bloody Marys apart :-), we are the best team in the league this year by a mile. The championship is our to win or lose now. Only complacency and distractions can hurt us now, and somehow, I just cannot see Nuno letting either of this happen. I predict the January hiring will be very much with the Premiership in mind at this stage.
Proud to be Wolves! Happy New Year everyone.
Go Wolves!!!
Go Wolves.
I said on the coach coming home last night, “recently, teams have been pitching up at Molineux with the attitude, right lets do these rich twats over for the Kudos” .
“Now, they will be shitting a prickly brick at the thought of it, because we actually showed what we can do when we stepped up a gear”
Consolidation starts tomorrow, the names this time around are truly shrouded in secret, no Wolvieleaks this time round, the staff in the backroom are paying the respect you expect from a professional club.
Me, I am positively trembling at the thought of who we will be seeing walk through the door.
Defo:-
Onwards & Upwards.
Great to hear your observations about the club’s professionalism. All part of the transformation that has happened to our club, from top to bottom. I like everything I see about them these days.
Happy New Year!

Loving 2017….
Last night is a late entry into the best away days of the year list.
Brizzle Citey, Stoke, Brentford, Forest, Liverpool and Derby n’all…2017 it’s been a blast.
Brilliant. What a way to end the year. We just need to continue to keep our heads firmly on the ground and not get over ourselves just yet. For the time being let’s just celebrate this sweet sweet victory and congratulate Nuno and his merry men. COYW. Yes yes yes. Nuno’s celebration just awesome.
Two successive away games. Both difficult. Both we went 1-0 down. And emerged with four more points. Excellent stuff. According to my calculator the two teams in 3rd and 4th will end up on 87 points based on current ratio. Ten more wins then. Probably achieved by the 40th game. One huge party for the last four or five games. I have just put a picture of Warnock’s face on my dart board and will be busy throwing darts at it in the New Year. My celebrations tonight somewhat ruined by Smethwick’s last minute ‘penalty’ this after noon. Mike Dean really is a twat. I would have loved them to have been rock bottom for New Year. WELL IT’S BEEN A GREAT RIDE ON THE ROLLERCOASTER THIS YEAR WITH CURRENT DESTINATION THE STRATOSPHERE. ENJOY TONIGHT ALL. HAPPY NEWS YEAR TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTES ON THIS EXCELLENT BLOG. THIS TIME NEXT YEAR WE MAY EVEN GET A MENTION ON FOOTBALL FOCUS!
Monday 2nd April at home to Hull is the day we clinch both promotion and the title. That is our 40th league game.
That will be the day.
What the feck is Football focus ????? Happy new year Cheesy.
A fantastic 95 minutes…
If Baath had not seen red, Bennett would not have been on the pitch to score…
The sheer highs and lows of that hour and a half were thrilling.
Thank you to the whole club and every player for giving us more optimism for 2018 than we have done since Cullis’s time….
Personally like to single out Neves.
What a snip of a player at just £15m…
I’d say he is already worth 3 times as much….
Happy 2018 to everyone….
If you were wanting to write a script for a brilliant televised match you couldn’t have come up with anything better than this. For me the difference was the solidity of the team for the last 30 minutes of the first half. It was absolutely essential because without it the game could have been out of reach by half time. With Bonatini sacrificed it left us with few options up front and HC unfortunately was below par when he needed to be on top of his game. Cav a great substitution – a dream of a through ball for the trip on Doherty, couldn’t have been more inch perfect. Then to end with great persistence rom Saiss, great precision (again) from Douglas and a great run and finish from Bennett. Not to mention the celebration that says everything about Nuno’s commitment to the club. Wonderful, heart-stoppingly wonderful.
Others have said it but this is a great time to be a Wolves fan, I have to go back to the 1950s for an experience approaching it.
Best wishes to everyone for 2018.
Happy New Year

Just popped over to Falmouth, so not a million miles from you Ben. Thanks for the write up and to Thomas and the other Ben for their work on the Blog. It’s been a tremendous 2017 and yesterday’s game simply underlined it.
Happy New Year to everyone who contributes in any way shape or form to this Blog. I know one game at a time is the mantra but it seems as if the Premiership is almost in touching distance. I can’t wait to see where
we are come April. Sunderland away should be a blast.
It had to happen, Happy New Year from Nuno…

A wolf pack is normally led by the dominant female, who keeps the rowdy males in check.
The one and only Black Country Wolf pack could not differ more.
We have a pack leader who, having only been with us for six months, has grasped and embraced with both hands the essence of us, the club and the fans.
The past 15 seasons are already a distant blur on the horizon, our shattered dreams blown away and forgotten like farts in a hurricane.
This bloke has brought back the one feeling I never thought I would have again, and that is overwhelming pride.
He has brought us together in a way the likes of morgan and moxey, and their pathetic managerial appointments could never imagine in their wildest dreams.
I thought Nuno was a quiet, reserved thinker, but his outburst of passion yesterday was beautiful to behold.
This man will take us to the dizzying heights of Champions League football, mark my words.
There is NO limit to what can be achieved under this man, Jeff and Fosun.
What I find fascinating is not the fact we are 10 points clear, but we have an eight GAME advantage.
The teams below have to not only win 4 games more than us, but we have to lose 4 more.
Core really get me yed round it, but there it is!
Was watching my app, 94 minutes gone, blow yer fuckin’ whistle ref, I’ll be happy with a point, and the app blinks at me, and changes to 1-2.
THAT was a fuck off statement to the rest of the league.
Stick that up yer jacksie, wernock, and all you other non football managers in this division. ( you listening, poolis?) Catch us if you can!
And what a spawny penalty at the crem today?
Bastids.
FOwb
That is exactly it Clive and what I have been saying to the guys out here with mee, it is the 8 game swing that is the most amazing thing because before you know it we will have eaten into those games…..
I hate Robbie Williams.
Are you loving angles instead?
No. I hate them bastards as well.
I hate angles too. I was never good at maths.
We got two more points than we might have this game and got two less than we might have the previous game so things balanced out.
Not happy with Jota kicking the ball back into the net and almost hitting the goalie.
What? 4 points in the last 2 away games. I would take that anyday. And …….. what upsets you so much about a ball being kicked after a goal?
It looked to me like he almost hit the goalie. Maybe it was just the angle.
A Very Happy New Year to all you fantastic people on this great blog, from StuWolf & Jen de Wolf. Thank you for sharing this incredible journey that was 2017, lot’s of highs, many lows. But, we move on into 2018 with open minds and anticipation at an all time high in my 56 years of supporting the Old Gold and Black.
StuWolf & Jen de Wolf
Happy new year to one and all.
Party time NBB Tuesday nightsee you there.
My country doesnt broadcast championship games. So I streamed the game live at my place with some friends that could play but dont watch games or follow a football team.
I insisted that the match would be a real Christmas cracker compared to the Man United game happened concurrently. started at 1.30 am for me
Then the red came and killed what was an entertaining encounter up until then. thought it was a yellow at best. even my mates asked me how that was a red.
Saw a similar challenge by Evans for the shite yesterday 34 minutes in and all he got was a yellow. (I wanted Arsenal to stuff em).
Nuno off for some reason. Im livid. my mates give me the look and try to settle me down. my family are sleeping. then the penalty claim came
Next the free kick that rattled the post. The agony; flashbacks to sheffield away played out. the match became entertaining in a different way.
We then watched a battling defensive display for the rest of the half. Credit to Wolves limiting Brizzles chances even if it made the game a bit flat. Costa looked off the pace especially on the break. Hes not a natural lone striker.
Start of the second half first 5 minutes my mates and I said we were all over Brizzle but getting crowded out with nobody to link things up down the middle as their men crowded out our soldiers nearer to the flanks.
We concede. My mates comfort me as I go flat and silent. Cav comes on what a masterstroke. They go down to 10. A spark of hope but I lament that I would rather have the goal compared to the player down as we played ok against 11. Things just got more interesting for everyone in the roon
We got both. I descend into a silent hysteria not to wake my folks up and the mates try to calm me down again.
10 on 10 we were all over them. Brizzle looked like they didnr have much left in the tank. We wanted to win it more and I thought a point would be good and hard earned.
speaking of hard earned, good on saiss winning that free kick.
One of those moments. The wizard Barry Potter to wave his wand of a left foot. during the run up I said “oh. my. God” with pauses in between. the moment he struck it and I saw bennett running to the far post and i knew that was it. before he made contact I stood up and threw a big fist into the air.
forget everyone else; GET INNNNNNN; proclaimed so loudly that probably the whole estate and not just my household jolted away for a bit before slipping back into dreamland. I didnt have to go to this dreamland place, at that moment watching the game and the celebrations, I was already there. 10 points clear and its no dream. its a reality.
welcome to the Nuno revolution! Meant a lot to me in my 10 years supporting wolves from abroad in a country where the number of people who support only Wolves can probably be accounted for with my fingered.
I think we got a few new casual fans that night and thats a match streamed that I will never forget as I turn 21 this new year.
Ill be at the Golden Palace one day!
Up the Wolves!
SG it will be an honour to see you at the Molineux. Great post mate.
would be delighted to sing along with the Molineux faithful one day.
the away support for this was immense, could hear them singing start to finish apart from just after they scored. epitomized by the “is this a library” chant loud and clear over Sky really. simple amazing
For me without doubt the game of the season so far…..Cometh the hour Cometh the men….that was an outstanding performance of a never say die attitude with backs to the wall. A game that had everything. The RED was a joke but hey it happens. Coady’s at Sheff U was a no brainer but this one was just plain wrong. He made contact with the ball and then the guy came on to him. Yes a stupid challenge but not a red. Byran’s pathetic dive over the celebrating men from Brizzle after their goal was irritating enough but more annoying was the smug Johnson after he had more than helped the ref with a couple of decisions prior to that.
As many have mentioned above and down the weeks this WOLVES team are so different to all that have come before in my decades of following the team. They genuinely play with pride and passion for the club. We have had those types of players over the years but as a complete team (even the players that may not be good enough for the next level) to a man, as Clive said above the pride of being a Wolves fan is at a new if not unknown level. Listening to the fantastic crowd singing ‘the greatest’ for once there is a possibility of going forward as a club and becoming a force to be reckoned with.
The delicious left foot of Mr Douglas (how is this man not in every Scottish team, I spoke to some Scottish lads over here about him and they had never heard of him, that will soon change). What was just as enjoyable was Jota smashing in the rebound as it came back out from the goal….Brizzle looked a half decent team but their only really decent move was the goal. Once the odds were evened up all of a sudden they looked really leggy. Wolves were starting to look tired as well but their desire was greater. Nuno is the biggest thing to happen to our club in the 50 years I have been supporting them if we keep him we keep improving. His passion at the end says it all (Mr Dicks…very aptly named… has probably never known that level hence has probably never achieved anything and was quite affronted by the fist pumping, ah well never mind). Now might be the time to bring a few in from the second stringers that held Man City and keep things fresh for all eventualities…anyway to all those in Old Gold all the best for the coming year and make sure your passports have got more than 6 months in them for those European away days that are on the horizon….
Barry Douglas is a real find, I had to google him to remind myself where he came from -congratulations whichever scouts tracked him down.
We love our Portuguese manager and players, and of course our Brazilian striker, but it’s good to have a few Brits – Douglas, Coady, Bennett, Ruddy, making such an important contribution.
Looking forward to another humdinger tomorrow, and waiting with interest to see who’ll be in or out in the January window.
Happy New Year to all fellow bloggers. Nothing to add re the match as Tipton Exile said it all. Now to carry on the winning ways in 2018
Watching away games at home on the box:-
Doesn’t cost a fortune
No travelling to the match
Nice and warm and dry
Can eat and drink when you want
Go to the toilet when you want without swimming in piss or inhaling the equivalent of 100 fags
Not have some 9 foot 6 inch brick shit house standing in front of you
Not have some obese twat in the next seat whose fat arse takes up half your seat
Not choking on somebody else’s fart
Have instant replay, for contentious incidents
Not having to ask the bloke next to you who scored the goal at the other end
No horrendous journey home.
For all this, I wouldn’t miss one for the world, the sheer ecstasy of the win at away games more than makes up for the discomforts.
The euphoria at Bristol was out of this world at the end……………never before have I turned around to go home and there was a bloke standing on my seat still singing his head off, how he got there I haven’t a clue.
As for Saint Nuno “Wolves Ay He” Nuff Said
Booked our hotel in Whitley Bay this morning for the weekend of the Sunderland game, promotion should have been confirmed long before then so, it will be just a big paaaaaarty!
Happy New Year to all Wolves fans at home and abroad
Happy New Year Ken & Carmen, great post mate, can relate to every single word. Apologies for the fag smoke, piss, occupying half your seat and the farting mate.
New Years revolution must try harder.
See you at every away game from now to Sunderland, you can drive into the Hilton for a meal with us at the Sunderland game.
Good photo Stu , caught your likeness a treat!!
🙂
Quote from a bloke on South Bank resistance, on the origin of the word “Dingles” by the Shite comes from Lancashire and not the shite fans, confirming,
“Their cerebral capacity wasn’t extended and their collective IQs never got above room temperature”.
LMFAO
Derby 2 points lost.. Cardiff 3 points lost.. if we win tomorrow
12 points clear..
Only if Vile win at home buddy, but all the holes in the swiss cheese have lined up for us so far today.
What’s brown with holes in it?
Swiss shit!!!
Sacked in the morning, you’re getting sacked in the morning!!
Four losses on the bounce, wernick, when you gonna resign, you fossilized dinosaur??!!
There is increasing evidence that GOD is a Wolves fan. He gave us Nuno and is making Warnock look like a complete fucking wanker. By the time we enter sheep snagging territory in April we will be up and ramming his smug musings right down his ugly face. Done you again Warnock. Ay we.
Almost right.. forgot Bristol at Villa..
They are losing 1-0 mate. So you could be right.
Decent results for us today without even playing, not that we need any help.
Snap!
My Christmas present from the PMDG’er.
Great minds think alike.
I have had mine a while now.
Ha ha, wrong photo selected. Thats my grandson.
I need one of these. Where do I get one?
Your child needs to have a child.
Oooh the wolf ..
From the club shop mate. Cost a bit though.
Thanks. Had a look, not too bad. Just need to think about where I can put it
🙂
Bristol losing 1-0
Come on Villa although it irks me!
Only gone and scored again. The Vile are doing us a favour…
COMBambinos
Villa 2-0 Brizzle
Happy new year all
The boys proved me wrong I said a loss
All nuno had to do was to put the article on the dressing room board about, we have to beat wolves for the league, what a incentive for us, what a plonker.
Most of the league are well envious of us jealous as hell it’s about time aswell, when we scored that winner I had a lump in my throat we don’t get last minute winners, keep it going boys and ram it down all these jealous bastards it’s our turn now, because we do what we want!!!!!
Paul Pogba is a Wolves fan as well according to his hair. Not the first Man U to be Wolves. Dennis Irwin. Alex Ferguson. George Best. All Wolves Ay We.
They’ve only gone and blown the feckin doors off the City bus…..
Villa 3-0 Brizzle
And they were singing
We’re coming for you
We’re coming for you
Wolverhampton
We’re coming for you.
Muppets
Villa 5 -0 Bristol titty
I am so pleased that Bristol City got hammered today. Simply because of the reports I have read about coins and lighters being thrown at our fans after the game, our fans being attacked in a pub and our fans getting smacked near the railway station. I have been on the receiving end of football violence and it leaves a nasty taste. I actually said before the game that I wished them well and I would take a draw but not anymore. Like Cardiff they can’t hack it like we can. Anyway, a very happy new year to all bloggers worldwide – and I think 2018 just might be. I know it is a while away but regarding Sunderland – I know we have got hotels booked but regarding transport, shall we just forget cars and trains and do the conga all the way up there ?
You need to get a minibus and all stop off at mine before you get to the hotel. I will arrange for some food and drinks.
Sounds good to us Steve, text me your address and we will start planning or if you are at the Swansea, Barnsley or shit games we will see you there.
See you at Barnsley Ian. Talk it through then.
It looks like we’re reallly going for ….’I’m going to get wasted status ‘
Generous offer Steve …. remember we’re overnight though and parking is at the ground free….so we need to agree the plan …
You bought a bigger tent, then, Brompto??
Yep. This one made of bricks.
That injury time winner totally fucked them up mentally.
They’ll implode now.
That Bristol manager what a smug twat.
We need to win tomorrow to really rub salt in the wound.
Wolves ay we
I just watched this again and I welled up ffs !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWEOHglxvdQ
he just uploaded part 4!
And the good news continues to come. Bristol lost. Cardiff lost. Derby has drawn. If the Wolves win tomorrow, they increase the difference to 12 points. That would be a fantastic start to the new year.
If I’m not mistaken it will be 14 points difference to 3rd place ..
And by Clive from Houston’s formula that will take at least 10 games to overcome …
Whooooopeeeeeee
Happy new year Paulo. If you ever get the chance to visit Wolverhampton you will be most welcome and will get a great reception. That is 100% guaranteed.
But he’s got to buy the first round
I will get the Portuguese /Wolverhampton phrase book ready. Six pinto of lager ay it.
