You can’t help but be disappointed by Wolves recent record in local derbies.
Aside from last season’s FA Cup victory over Blues and the Jay Bothroyd inspired 1-0 win over Albion, we’ve fared poorly against our bitter rivals.

The last meeting with Blues was memorable for a terrible Wolves performance and that horror challenge on Chris Iwelumo
In fact, Wolves supporters have had to sit through some pretty sickening defeats in the last five or so years, particularly at Molineux.
The infamous ‘Pie and a Pint’ debacle will long be remembered with anger, especially after Albion walloped us 3-0 and laughed at us all from the comfort of the South Bank. Later in the season, they also turned us over in the home-leg of the playoffs. In some ways, that was even harder to take as we played well in that game and didn’t deserve to come out on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline.
Blues also gave us the treatment that very same year, winning 3-2 at Molineux in a match that swung from end to end in the second half. That was particularly difficult to swallow after fans favourite Michael McIndoe missed a last-gasp penalty to bag us, what would have been, a deserved point (he was also on a hat-trick if memory serves).
If you go back as far as our last Premiership campaign, we couldn’t beat Blues then either. A 1-1 draw at Molineux was followed by a 2-2 at St. Andrews later in the season.
So as we approach Sunday’s crunch game against the Brummies, a home win seems long overdue.
I’ve still got the bitter taste of last season’s 2-0 defeat at St. Andrews in the back of my throat and the fact they seem to be coping better with the demands of the Premiership only increases my already burning desire to see Wolves turn them over.
The added carrot to winning is that we can drag them back into the relegation quagmire. They’re sitting pretty close to mid-table at the moment, but defeat at Molineux would put a dent in their growing confidence and give us a much-needed boost.
You’ll forgive me if I don’t even entertain the idea of the result going the other way. After all, it’s about time we had the bragging rights.
We do deserve the bragging rights. We have been more entertaining than Birmingham this seasonl, who are grinding out results. If we beat them (and follow up with a win vs. Bolton)we will show we can beat the teams we need to beat.
Bring back the wingers, and make the pitch wider!! Mancienne at centre back is a must for me, won’t happen but I can dream. He will go left back, though I hear Ward is nearly fit and Malone is impressing.
It will be good with Foley back. This could be the first game with all our best players from last season fit, it all coming together when we desperately need to.
Yeah but more entertaining or not, Blues are in the better position. Albion were nicer on the eye than Stoke last season and look what happened there.
It’s time to do what we need to do and not what looks pretty.
Sorry……….exaclty what has been pretty that we have done this season???
We haven’t played anywhare near as attractive football as the shit did last year, and we have also not got anywhere near the battling and doggish spirit Stoke show week in week out.
It’s all been pretty………PRETTY TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, we have been pretty this season.
Pretty poor against West Ham
Pretty poor against Hull
Pretty poor against Pompey
Just focus on the negatives then Pete
What about Sunderland, did ‘pretty’ well there but couldn’t see it out, we did well at Everton too and let in an equaliser at the end. We were all over Arsenal for half an hour, but then everyone’s commited forward, 3 or 4 passes and it’s a goal.
We’re trying to play pretty, if not succeeding. Maybe it’s time to just hoof it long to a big guy, hoff or iwelumo. We might get a bit more joy.
Trouble is Rich, we may have been all over Arsenal for 30 mins but we got beat 4-1, likewise Sunderland 5-2. There is no point playing well but getting beat! I don’t even think we play pretty, Arsenal play pretty! We need to be in teams faces for the full 90+ mins, instead of 10 mins here or 30 mins there or as against Chelsea not at all. Stop the other team playing and you have a chance of winning, let them play (as we do too often) and we’ll continue to get beaten!
That’s what i’m saying Jed, we’re getting opened up to easily when we’re on top. Maybe we need to sure it up a bit, another man in midfield for those games.
Not sunday though, we need to go all out for the bloody win!
Personaly, I am well up for seeing Big Chris & Hoff up top from the get go. Lets get a bit more physical and get a nasty streak in us.
Players and fans alike are seeing our name on the fixture list and thinkg with a big smile on thier face that an easy 90min in in thier future.
I want Doyle upfront on his own in this game with Kites and Jarvis supporting him. If we need a goal bring on SEB! Wayne in goal with Foley, zubar,Berra and Mancienne infornt of him.
Milijas Henry and Edwards as the centre midfielders. Edwards is good at getting in theuir face and annoying them, like Kites and Jarvis do.
I think The Hoff is one of the worst players I have ever seen in a Wolves shirt, he should go back from whence he came. Stop pussy footing around and give us some players up for a relegation fight. We don’t need useless namby pamby’s.
SEB is finally gonna bag a goal (im not being critical), and Doyle is gonna have an absolute corker. I’m very very interested to see the midfield / defence combos… jarvis will definitely start, kightly wont. Hennessey wont be dropped either, and thats fair enough cause hes not that bad… and hahnneman isnt much better than him!!
This is the formation i would like
Hennessey
Zubar / Craddock / Berra / Stearman
Edwards / Henry / Castillo / Jarvis
SEB / Doyle
I’m basing that on current form / injuries.
I would eventually like Mancienne over Craddock, but i think the old man has another game left in him to prove himself. Foley i doubt will be matchfit.
Kightly hasnt been performing, and they both agreed both him and Mick agree that they need more time for more improvement. Castillo had a shocker against Chelsea but otherwise has been performing ok.
Strikers speak for themselves… our two best, just need some time playing with each other.
Zubar / Craddock / Berra / Stearman
I look at your defence. I look at the pace of our front two.
and I smile.
haha not much to choose from, but apart from craddock the rest arent slowcoaches (not that theyre particularly fast either). playing 4 in the defensive line will see your strikers off.
And for the midfield I daresay when it fires its a lot more potent than the blues’, just that its so intermittent lol.
