Wolves Blog Postcard Stop #3 – San Francisco, California

Thanks to Andy in Sunny San Francisco for being the latest recipient of the Wolves Blog Postcard.

Wolves Blog Postcard Andy San Fran

Originally from Bushbury but grew up in Penkridge. My Dad was a lifelong season ticket holder until he passed away in July 2011 and it was he who introduced me to the North Bank as a nipper in the early Seventies with Waggie, Steve Daley, Mike Bailey, the Doug and John Richards, Frank Munro, Derek Parkin etc.

Went to the League Cup Final in 1974 and apart from being kicked by a Man City fan after the game on the way back to the coach, was a fantastic day and my one and only experience of being at Wembley.

Andy

I moved to San Francisco 25 year ago after graduating from Plymouth Poly and love living here. Weather is never too cold or too hot. Great beaches, nightlife, snowboarding in winter and camping in summer in the Sierra Mountains 3 hours away. San Francisco is a very small city as there are only 800,000 people who live here as its on a peninsula and theres no where else to build up so its only 15 minutes from the beach to downtown where my office is near the Giants Baseball stadium where I work for an ad agency.

Ive had the Wolves Blog postcard sitting in my office in San Francisco for 2 months after receiving it from those fine folks up in Canada. Frankly the reason its been sitting there is more to do with my depression at where the Wolves are the moment versus any antipathy on my part to get out the camera and take some snaps of the local sights. After a timely reminder from Thomas to pull my digits out I duly took some of the photos today of me, my dog, the Postcard and some familiar sights in the background.

Wolves Blog Dog

My dog funnily enough, looks like the Wolves logo. I swear it wasn’t a conscious decision on my part as he was a rescue dog and the kennel called me to adopt him but it must be fortuitous and serendipitous that he was chosen as he looks like the Wolf as evidenced by the sticker on the back of my Jeep which is proudly driven around the Streets of San Francisco in the vague hope that someone will recognize it and stop me as a fellow Wolves supporter so we can have a San Francisco Wolves Supporters Club that comprises more than one member (me).

So IF there are any Wolves fans out there in the Bay Area, then please get in touch so I can at least have a local moan about where the boys are at present and how the heck we get out of this mess.

C’mon Me Babbies!

  2. Nice one Andy, for a moment I thought Canada Post had continued with their efforts to be the worlds worst postal system!
San Francisco is easily my most favourite city in the world, you’re very lucky! Will hopefully spending a couple of weeks there in the summer so I’ll keep my eyes open for the Wolves badge on your jeep!

Not quite the only Wolves fan in San Fran ( well near it ) my cousins follow the 49 ers. My Auntie Janet on the other hand sends the occasional email sadly saying, ” the Wolves aren’t doing so well …” I imagine as a girl she was dragged along to the Mol by my Dad; i’ll email her to get the full picture. They live in pollock pines now, originally from San Bruno. UTW

Love the postcard blogs. Great to see everyone take the team with them when they go overseas.

I knew Lynn Well, she was in my year at School. I used to knock around a bit with her brother Mark. The Hartley Arms was my local for years.

Greetings from across the sea Andy.
I like the pictures – particularly the one taken in your back garden with it’s very impressive water feature!
Your dog looks like a good’n.
    Is he called ‘Waggy’?
    Or maybe ‘The Do(o)g’
Or perhaps, because dogs are never more happy than when licking their own bits or sniffing bottoms, you should have called him ‘Jez’.

Nice write up Andy. I used to live just down the road from Penkridge, in Wheaton Aston, But went to high school there at Wolgarston.
I too live statesidenow, in Sunny Richmond Virginia. Although its actually snowing today.
I was just a little too young to go to the ’74 final, but my cousin gave me and my brothers a vinyl record of the commentary, one half on each side, and I used to listen to it over and over. I got my first and only real taste of the old Wembly in the 1980 League cup win against Forest.
Now get that card in the mail, so we can all look forward to reading about its next destination.
    Up the Wolves.

Nice photos mate. I seem to support a club in a few sports and the 49ers have been my American football times since the days of Joe Montana, Gerry Rice and all on channel 4 on Sunday evenings. Delighted to see them reach the bowl this year but devastated to see them lose it. If only Wolves could reach a major final again huh!

Off topic, which is my want but with around a day of the transfer window to go once again we have brought no one in. Given we were supposed to be trying to do this all January and February and March its now gone way past a joke. How do other clubs manage to bring players in but we seem to fail miserably. The situation is even more desperate now with Ikeme, Edwards and Sako out for the season. I could mention parachute payments, money from transfers, even the mythical treasure chest but so far we are giving a trial to a Slovakian goalkeeper who can’t get a club – well, he will be cheap even if he’s fc*k*ng useless.
