Amongst the muck and nettles of Championship football nothing fits better than Wellington boots.

Unlike his predecessor that’s exactly what Dean Saunders is – appropriate footwear.
And you sense this group of players are more comfortable trudging through the fields than attempting to glide across them.
The new manager’s first team selection was somehow bold and cautious.
Bold for bringing Ronald Zubar in from the cold and handing a league debut to Jake Cassidy.
Cautious for a midfield selection that favoured hard graft over guile and craft.
Featuring a full back and two holding players, it was little surprise the approach was labored and sluggish.
Only Bakary Sako offered any sort of incision, too often fending off the challenges or galloping into space, only to find an absence of available options.
Doyle and Cassidy got the ball quicker as promised, but that usually meant chasing hopeful punts and lost causes.
Still, the appetite had returned and Blackburn were nearly swept away by a wave of enthusiasm and commitment.
But the crippling frailties remain. For all the hurrying and hassling, loose passes and indecision continually invite the opposition in.
From Ikeme’s misplaced pass to Ward’s needless foul and Sako’s lazy hanging leg, Rovers were gifted the initiative.
Huff and puff was eventually rewarded with the much-needed sprinkle of quality Jamie O’Hara’s left boot provided.
Roger Johnson isn’t everyone’s idea of a hero, but that’s the second time this season he’s saved the day, always looking the only likely candidate to connect.
The agricultural point was a deserved one and although the football was often as ugly as a farmer’s wife, Molineux approved.
And for the first time in while, it felt comfortable under foot.
spot on Thomas. But at last theres some hope.
Saunders has got to go with the eleven that finished; hopefully with one or two new signings.
and, once again, where do they get these Championship officials? a penalty given by a linesman who looks hardly old enough to be out on his own, let alone show the maturity to give such important decisions.
Harsh decision admittedly. But lets not get ageist about it. Older and more experienced officials have made worse decisions. I like the idea of young more athletic officials.
wasnt being intentionally ageist, but i do think an more experienced official might not be so quick to make such a judgment. after all, the referee wasnt going to give it.
I thought the officials generally had a poor game. They were inconsistent and over-officious. The ref simply didn’t let the game flow and totally lost control in the O’Hara/Pedersen incident.
Their penalty shouldn’t have been given. We had a fair shout for one when Doyle was hauled over in the box which wasn’t given. Olsson should have been sent off. Kazim-Richards should have been sent off. Both had two bookable offences.
It was genuinely one of the worst refereeing displays I’ve seen in a long time – the best refs are the ones you don’t notice, but I don’t think this idiot went more than 30 seconds without blowing his whistle. By midway through the second half the Blackburn players had just started going to their knees because they knew they’d get a free kick.
The midfield functioned well and put Sako into action all the time. Henry and Davis were good. And O’Hara grabbed his 3rd assist in 3 games (?). Zubar on the wing did not convince me. He seemed to lack confidence and besides one attempt on goal he was invisible for the most of the time. He might improve his game if he get’s more chances in that position.
Wolves had enough chances to win the game. An unfortunate touch by Doyle hindered him from a clear cut chance. O I was gutted. The goal was scored by Roger Johnson. Maybe we should try him out as a forward? :=) We need box players with presence and aerial ability. But the forwards looked dangerous when Sako crossed them hard and low.
The game was dominated by wolves, and I don’t believe Saunders need that many signings to lead us up if the players plays as well as yesterday. A couple of strikers and we’re there.
Agree that the team that finished was better than the one that started.
Saunders has said he plays three different systems depending on the opposition, which is something I’m keen to see.
Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Stale found that out.
But Saunders will get the team and crowd united with his work ethic and cause.
For all the euphoria, we have for all intence and purpose returned to what we had 18 months ago. I hope we have a further plan for when we reach the prem. But, I saw a game where the players had a bit of passion and pride to wear our jersey. We are due a return for the last 12 months of torture and misery. Wolves Forever Are We!
I think the plan for when we reach the Premier can be put on hold for a while.
Unfortunately, we need to think about implementing the plan for not reaching Div I at the moment.
agree farmer doogs ..i think its a good thing though . even if we managed to stay up l.ast season i believe wed have suffered the same fate as there were so many things wrong at the club..my feelings are that HOPEFULLY morgan will have learned an awful lot from the last few months and will invest in the team with a long term plan because we need to be continually changing to push forward. professor old goldy exits stage left.
I found the Wellington boots a bit more comfortable & a better fit. Solbakken’s leaked all over the place!
This showed enough for me to register more than a little hope that Deano can turn the team round from a horrible place.
We gifted them their goal by sloppy back play like so many times before, and yes Wardy was involved again.
But there were some very good performances from Davis, Foley, Johnson, Berra, Henry & O’Hara. I liked the way we pressed the ball. We only needed one of the forwards to show some movement into the box & w’ed have won this one.
I hope for better things, but the progress was there last night & that’s after just a week. I look forward to Hillsborough on Saturday. Better times ahead methinks.
Zubar did not look any worse than others in the right back position. I remember in his first year here he was decent. he deserves a run in the team.
disagree. Zubar is a liability. He very nearly gave a goal away again. Caught on the ball , fell over and very lucky to get a foul otherwise the striker would have been clean through.
He needs to change position to right wing and we don’t need another of those.
Let him go.. he’s had his chance.
Doherty should be playing.
He’s very promising and is the only right back at the club who hasn’t had a chance in the first team and cocked it up.
He played very well in that second half against Liverpool last season but we never saw him again.
One thing I will say for Zubar is that he is passionate, enthusiastic and genuinely enjoys being at this club. That’s invaluable and is why he is a cult hero.
My observations having watched the match online….
It was exciting, though a lot of head tennis.
Sako was our only outlet first half.
He is an excellent player, can anyone imagine him with Leighton Baines, (not Ward), as his left back?
The midfield was dreadful.
Half the time two of the three went missing.
There were arguments amongst players, especially in defence.
Johnson probably would agree with Clive re Ward from some of the stick he was getting.
We need a target man, desperately, if we play the way we did.
Cassidy is good but not with Doyle, whom I think with Ward, Berra, Henry & possibly Foley should go asap.
They have played too long together in a losing team.
Keep Zubar, I thought he and Sako, were our best players first half.
If O Hara is properly fit, then he should be first on the team sheet and captain.
If he isn’t properly fit the captaincy should go to Johnson without whom our defence would be, more or less non existent.
Still we played with pride and we got a point!!!!
Good start Deano
Wow. We support the same team and watch the same game and I would do exactly the opposite to you – except Sako. !!
For a defender Johnson is a great striker. He slow and can’t turn. Misjudge that offside tap and Blackburn get 2 goals cause he ain’t catching noone. Get Danny Batth in.
Cassidy was non existent for me – deserves more chances but he ain’t got the class of sigurdsson.
I also though Ward and Sako work well together esp. in attack. but we could still do with a proper left back.
Zuber is a liability. Had he not got the foul he sould have gifted them a goal.
Just for the record – Ikeme is excellent. One great save and came right out for one ball which Hennessey would never have done.
Foley back to right back and Peszko in. O’hara for Davis at home but not away. Davis makes the team look more secure but leaves our attack very light. However away from home with Sako’s speed and skill with Sigurdsson speed and height, counterattack could be deadly.
Totally agree, Sigurdsson is starting to show real promise. Overall last night vast improvement from all players, my real concern is Doyle who I believe is a class act but as totally lost his confidence, which results in him not being direct enough, he would rather look for the pass than have a punt at goal.
My man of the match last night was Davies, one of his best games for the first team.
i tend to disagree with a lot of your posts, but that was very close to nail hit square on the head that
Four likes each!
I agree about Sigurdarson, also why not Sako down the middle?
Where is Sigurdarson btw? We are crying out for just one player with a bit of pace. He has more of it than an other player in our squad but he always goes missing. Is he out long term?
To use the welly boot analogy, too many of our players (virtually every one bar Sako) look like they are playing in wellies. SO slow, predictable and laboured. It’s like they have no spring or umph to mount an attack with a modicum of purpose.
Doyle the slowest of the lot. And his positional sense for a striker is bloody hopeless.
The thing is, nobody will want our deadwood as it is so laboured.
Nice to see Peszko come on, and if we can get Siggy back, we’ll immediately have a more dynamic team. Two new full backs – with pace – would make the world of difference too. They would facilitate counter attacks and play a massive role in any system.
Good point Ben and I agree only Sako, (Peszko & O’Hara, when they came on), looked like they were not wearing wellington boots.
The problem with the remainder is that they have been playing too long for a losing team.
None of them trust the other and it is obvious in they way they play.
Zubar and Cassidy, for me, also played without this losing mentality.
Until the culprits go, we will be struggling and hopefully not demoted.
I agree about the ones you say should go aspecialy Doyle. In Thursday E&S Sauders said Doyle will be the first on his team sheet every week which I think was a big mistake to say that. Does that mean even if he plays crap he’s still going to play him Doyle even in his best season goal wise which by the way was with Reading what 4,5 years ago only manages 14 goals, he has never been and never will be a prolific or even decent goals scorer and not only that what does that say to Doyle and the other high earners/senior pros your place is guaranteed even if you play crap and don’t try which by the way sums up the attitude for the last 18 months. I thought Saunders was here to sort the slackers out not guarantee them a place in the team week in week out. That was a massive statement to make what are the kids going to make of that, rewarding failure. I really f..king do despair.
Sorry but I find your comments unbelieveable! Doyle is top quality, he was a large part of the reason Wolves stayed up for three seasons.
That he does’nt score enough goals is true, but he’s doing too much of the donkey work himself.
I can’t see anyone else who’d get on the team sheet ahead of him, Henry would be next pick. Both players work hard for the cause. Obviously Managers who see the players close up are know who their best players are.
While Sako gives away a penalty & often gets shoved off the ball too easily, Doyle is there helping the defence at corners & free kicks. He rarely lets the side down.
You hit the nail on the head work hard do you mean run round like headless chickens as we found out hard work as you call it only gets you so far McCarthy found that out. You must be watching a different team to me then. Doyle kept us in the Premier league you must be joking as for Henry he couldnt hack the Premier the players were to fast and to skillfull for him that why he got sent off 3 times and god knows how many yellow cards you could have papered the dressing room wall with.
I’d have to say that I must be watching the same game but see different things from players. They all have their faults, but I do genuinely think that Doyle & Henry are our best players.
Better support for them & we’d be higher up the table. Henry is a tw**t getting sent off & lets his teamates down & the fans, but his covering qualities are valuable to the team. Henry hacked the Premier league for 2 seasons pretty well, & Doyle was brilliant on his tod up front.
I have’nt always thought he was up to the level but I did think Davis had a good game on Friday. He’s not as creative as O’Hara but he looks as if he could be a player for us. Do you agree with that?
Great to see some commitment and energy again after a lethargic number of games. At times it was pretty aimless and uncontrolled with the kick it anywhere approach reappearing.
What I hope it’s shown Saunders is that we have to get at least 1 if not 2 strikers in ASAP. But more importantly the Cart Horses such as SEB, Ward, and to a certain extent Henry need to be booted out. Im sick of seeing Ward out of position or being skinned by a fast forward and as for his passing! Surely O’Hara’s first touch showed us that creative mid field play is equally as important to scoring goals as having a “Bully” playing.
Quite who will take any of them on their ludicrous wages even on a free transfer is beyond me which is worrying in terms of getting in new blood.
I think Saunders will keep us out of trouble but forget the playoffs with this squad.
Roll on next season as we have to get back or we’ll be doomed to an extended period at this level with the huge money differences now coming in.
Forget the playoffs ?!! I’ll be happy (and surprised) if this squad avoid relegation.
Hopefully DS learnt that none of these players are premiership even though they played there !!
I thought we were rubbish.
It was just a different kind of rubbish.
If our tempo under SS was slow are we really going to go in completely the other direction and go even more long ball than under Mick?!?!
Any manager that wants us to lob free kicks into the box from within our own half worries me greatly.
and we still give the keeper the ball from kickoff and have him boot it long. Why not just shoot after the first touch ? It’s just as crazy and might surprise the opposition !
Oh and can we stop the stupid huddle before kick off. American football it ain’t.
It was dross, agreed.
But you have to weigh performances against expectation.
Wolves aren’t a good team and I don’t think anyone expected us to suddenly become one last night.
The performance was ugly, but we penned Blackburn in for much of the game and deserved the point.
I don’t care if we shell balls into the box, I just wish we had a forward capable of getting on the end of them.
Winning (or not losing) is all that matters to me, for the moment at least.
Thomas I agree we spent all night putting balls into the box when there was no one there to get on the end of them.
I still say Doyle needs the ball to feet, No point keep humping it up to him at 5 foot 2 he hasn’t a hope in hell.
Nouble was a target man but he’s gone, Blake is too slow and fat now.. So forward needed asap to play this style.
Overall I thought we were unlucky not to get 3 points though, Officals were totally incompetent.
The number of aimless hoofs forward in the air made me feel I was watching a rugby match with loads of ‘up and unders’. When are English coaches/managers going to work out that if you hoof a ball in the air towards your front men there’s a 50% chance of you losing the ball. This is back to hoof and huff and puff, and ‘putting in a shift’. Given that the master of this coaching strategy left nearly a year ago it doesn’t seem we’ve moved very far forward. Is this Morgan’s version of ‘Back to the Future’?
I would say this is Morgans vision of getting us out of the mire and not dropping a division. The vision may change next season if we are still in this division and not pushing for promotion. You never know Saunders may grow with the job.
Would love to be more positive but thought it looked MM all over again. A bit more exciting to watch but will it get us to the prem and if so will it keep us there? Personally I have grave doubts. Not buying into this style at the moment. Think we are in danger of going backwards.
The style is a week old give it more of a chance. I must be alone amongst the bloggers on here to see really good signs of progress. It is the most comfortable I have felt at a home game for ages.
Does anyone agree? Apart of course from DS who was also pleased with the performance.
The comment about Sako being good first half? He was great second half but first he struggled.
Same here, actually lost my voive watching the game, this was the most enjoyable game I have watched all season
Spot on Thomas, Jesus, it was his first game with a beleaguered bunch of mostly poor players. The last approach clearly wasn’t working, and he needs to implement his own – in more than five days. Play to your strengths, and for this lot it ain’t a neat passing game.
yeah sort of agree but its a case of get the ball in the net the easiest way at the moment . the quality of football will improve hopefully when better players arrive . WTID
Plenty of effort and an improvement on the recent rubbish. I thought Johnson was immense(is he looking for an escape before the window shuts?), Sako looked real class at times and i thought Cassidy looked ok against a decent team.
But what this showed more than anything is, no matter who they appoint as manager, most of our squad are just not good enough.
The quality of football is miles away from even an average premiership side. These failures have been wearing the old gold for far too long, they’ve had their chance and it’s time the team was completely rebuilt.
If they really are serious about us returning to the premiership, there is no other option.
It was a lot easier to enjoy that than what went before it, you could see effort.
All too easy to point the finger at ward, it works both ways look who he’s got tracking back. zubes had foley to lend a hand when you turn it around and look at what was produced going forward, the left was far better. Ward played a part in some excellent moves going forward. When Saunders made a change on the right he sacrificed zubes as he realised foley would be safer in that position with less back up from the pzsecko (sorry if spelling is out).
We were crying out for a target man up front, I reckon that’ll be the first thing we get in the transfer window.
It was scary how easily they broke through our midfield and how much of a gap they had to run into towards our defence when they did, and that’s with two holding midfielders and a full back playing in midfield.
I can see him turning it around but there is a lot of work needed, if he can guarantee the work rate then that’s the first thing on the list ticked off. UTW
For me it seemed back to Micks days. A lot of Huff n Puff but no cutting edge.
The only guy who looked comfortable on the ball and could take his man on was Sako. He and Ward reminded me of Jarvis and Ward although we need to keep Sako out of our area.
We just dont seem to offer much threat in the box, strikers pretty staci and predicatble. I saw some hope in Cassidy who was at least offering some movement. Not sure what to make of Doyle at the moment not a half the guy he was.
We really do need a more mobile defence, a proper LB and some telling balls from midfiels which henry is never going to do. Apart from one or two guys we seem to lack the basics and way to many misdirected passes.
Still we could have won comfortably and it was a very soft penalty. In my book if that was penallty there should have been at least two to us. The ref was playing on and if it had been outside the box would naot have been given.
Encouraging Deano
Much better atmosphere at the Molineux than we’ve had for ages, but I’m afraid I thought the football was pretty dire for the most part. The fact that it was better than we’ve been used to recently just shows how low the standards have sunk. But at least there was a bit more energy and commitment.
Strange how we’re in a run of four games where we’ve beaten the opposition away but struggle against them at home.
I don’t think we’ll be in danger of relegation and results should improve under Saunders but not to the extent of making the playoffs this year. If we can just get somebody in who can score goals we could have quite an exciting attack, with Sako on the left and Peszko, when he’s fully matchfit, on the right. And there’s still Sigurdarson and Boukari to return from injury.
But the defence could let us down. Talking of which, what’s happened to Margreitter. For a guy who was signed in August I don’t even know what he looks like.
Sorry if the players I’ve namechecked are all Stales signings but I think he did well in that respect at least. We desperately need players of real class.
Maybe there lies the rub – had Stale been able to replace more of the dross who were unable to play as he wanted . . . . . . . . guess we’ll never know.
Siggy up front with Sako in a free role might be a more threatening attack than what we had last night.
There were glimpses of what stalle could do but there was something not right behind the scenes especially as it transpired: the discipline . wrong culture for his ideas unfortunately.
That’s why he had to be given more time. I agree that it was dire at times, most times, but he was always playing with Micks lads and they weren’t up to doing what he wanted. The players he brought in were constantly injured. Circumstances conspired against him and he didn’t always help himself, but neither did Morgan. Six months in those circumstances is just not long enough.
I’m getting old and I want to see past the next 2 – 1 win against Charlton or Millwall and see us established in the premiership. I’m not sure this football will do it. I look at Swansea especially but also at the likes of Stoke, Norwich and so on. Its taken time and support from the owners / board but they are now as established as a small club can be in the prem. I honestly feel we have more potential, as a club, than any of them.
Its only one game but its a style that is so limited against sides that can keep the ball. It may get us up . . . . . . . but so did Mick. I can understand, to some extent, the change in manager but not the change in direction.
maybe the discipline issues in europe and norway are different with the players being more professional and thus not requiring the rod to keep them in check. the players over here do come across as snotty little kids with way too much money in their pockets. i was really confident that stalle could turn it round but we were getting way too close to the bottom 3 and looking bottom three . his ideas would be better served at a club like fulham with players that could grasp his ideas and implement them. morgan was being too clever at the wrong time . we needed a manager in the mould of dare i say it…mick to get us out of this league.then a better suited man would have been required to keep us there though.
Very good points, especially about the mentality of continental and English players generally, and I agree that the outlook was bleak. Maybe if he hadn’t had the injuries and could have picked up a few more points he could have had a little more breathing space – but I doubt he would have had money to spend in this window. I think a lot of his problems were down to the players and the whole ethos of doing it on the cheap. Dean’s style will certainly be better suited to them. Like you, I have concerns about just how far this style, and these players, will take us.
From what I’ve read it seems like we’ve just proved the old saying:-
If you ask two Wolves supporters how the match went you’ll get six different opinions.
However, the general mood seems reasonably upbeat and for the first effort of the new man it’s an improvement on the previous run of defeats.
Work rate and commitment seemed vastly improved and, if it hadn’t been for the soft penalty, we’d have kept a clean sheet.
We desperately need a natural goalscorer to convert our chances.
I hope that Deån gives Cassidy a good run beacause, given some decent service, he will come good but a big target man would be a useful alternative.
Where’s Nouble when you want him?
Oh! Yes…. Ipswich.
I agree that the forward line isn’t up to much. Doyle has simply forgotten how to be a striker! However, I thought Cassidy got himself into the kind of areas to suggest that if we create chances for him he’ll score goals. The problem last night was the lack of creativity from midfield. Davis and Henry are a clone, only Henry a much more athletic, dynamic and better version. Foley wide right could work if you’re playing an attacking centre midfielder but last night there was nothing but Sako who didn’t look like breaking them down by himself until the game opened up late on. But by then our fitness levels had been drained by playing a much higher tempo game than we’ve been used to.
I read a rumour on a random site earlier that Harry is looking at Doyle for Q.P.R. This is silly season extended though for the unlikely and gossip possibilities of football!
In theory Doyle should be pissing all over this league but he’s a million miles away at the moment and has been for so long it’s hard to envisage him ever doing it in the gold and black again. Should be a win win situation all round for him to move on. Troble is, imagine how much his transfer value has plummeted by in the last 18 months. The pieman is probably still kidding himself that he’s worth £6m plus. I say a player is only worth his value to yourselves and in Doyles case that isn’t much at the moment. The way Saunders seems to have set out our style of play I’d bet my bottom dollar we’ll have a big lump of a striker in by the next game, probably on loan. He’ll probably want someone with a bit more mobility alongside him but that will probably come further down the line.
Haven’t posted on here for a while…. Well about the game, it was a much improved performance. Some people said that we played bad and we gave away sloppy passes, but that is understandable with the current form we were on and for so long used to the long ball game. To be honest, I wasn’t happy when I heard Deano was the manager but after hearing some interviews with him, I eventually got hopeful and now watching the game, I am pretty pleased. Yes there are some weak links but that is to be expected. People are slagging Ward but he made some very promising link ups with Sako which I was really pleased with. Cassidy caught my eye, even though he didn’t have any real opportunities and made some good runs and didn’t give up on any loose balls. I’m looking forward to see what else Saunders has in hold for us as he already improved the spirit and has got a point already (which sadly is good at this point of time). My dad watched the game with me and his a Liverpool supporter and he also said that the penalty was nowhere near one. For me O’hara must start against Wednesday and hopefully Pezsko and Davis. Pezsko had determination and the willingness to carry on with some superb tackling and sprinting along the ling. Against Wednesday this would be my starting line up:
Ikeme
Foley/Stearman Johnson Berra/Batth Ward
Henry Davis
Pezsko O’hara Sako
Cassidy/Doyle
We need to get back on track and hopefully it starts next match. With some new signings and some players leaving, hopefully we can climb the table and sneak into the play offs.
UTW!
took me a second or two to realise you weren’t suggesting we play a 6-2-3-2!
ahahahahaha! Be good if we could, we need all the help we can!
Totally agree with the extra man in midfield to free up O’hara to link up with a lone striker. Although I’d go with Blakey as Doyle and O’hara would be too similar.
I wouldn’t mind Blakey as well. Just thought tho Doyle is a better target man and runs more so would be good for O’hara.
I thought it was a tough game Blackburn are a better team than their position suggests. We worked hard and with a bit more luck could have come off winners ( excellent save from Foleys flick ) I thought Cassidy had a decent debut but tired later but thats understandable I wasn’t too disappointed with a draw , but couldn’t understand how Henry got MOTM
a point is better than nowt but its still a bit of same old same old,we gotta give dean time but i,m a bit concerned of his admiration of kevin doyle, why drop sylvan and keep doyle whose played 131 times and only scored 26 goals i know sylvans a bit better played 180 scored 56 its goals we need at the moment to kick start our season as were always gonna concede
I know Doyle doesn’t score anywhere near enough goals to be called a striker but his work rate and unselfishness is better than ‘EeBanks Cake.
I think Deån’s plan was that Doyle would create more for Cassidy than Sylvan would.
Can understand the optimism – Saunders’ first game and all that. And I guess you can only improve on a defeat to non-league opposition… But…
This still feels like regression of sorts. It’s like we’re back to 2006 and just grateful for a bit of effort.
But shouldn’t we be the richest club in the division? (Parachute money without debt).
Looks like the plan is long-ball football. At least out crap players are happy.
I cant disagree that Ward did link up OK and frankly he looks better going foorward, but his defensive ability is crap, he is just not a LB, in my wilder dreams I some time thing about him in a mid field position and running at the defence but……………………. we need more security one the flank.
foley to go asap zubar rb with a few games he will b ok henrey out ohara in and sell doyle get a goal scorer in
Foley had a good game & is a solid performer, Zubar is at best erratic & would not be a great loss. Why would we want to sell last night’s MOM? Doyle also a genuinely great player, why would we want to sell him?
Saunders will sell the peripheral players, he wants to make the squad smaller to enhance team spirit, selling those you have suggested would reduce the quality as well as the size of the squad!
Just picked myself of the floor – foley had a good game?? He was truly awful again.
There are very few players, at Molineux, that have quality and the majority of them, were signed by Ståle. I also thought Foley had a dreadful game.
A very good point. Given Dean has only been there a week I think he’s really got across his playing method to the players. Its obvious some of the players are not good enough but at least they gave it their all. Hopefully Dean will work on players taking a touch then looking up, not just hoofing into corners. Cassidy and Doyle were running their socks off and trying to feed on scraps but its frustrating for them and with frustration comes mistakes. I thought the defence played well, especially the two centre halfs, they won everything in the air and really lead by example. Zubar was a bit suspect but hes lacking match practice. Peszko looked very tenacious and I think he’ll be a big player for us, as will O’hara. I dont think we need to be worried about relegation, a comfortable midtable finish I reckon.
Peter Crouch on loan a centre half and a left back, otherwise keep team that finished to get us to safety and start again next year
I’m sure Crouch would love to come to a club 17th in the Championship!
keep the faith Carl…dream of dross and get it
Rome wasn’t built in a day
Another thing, it was fantastic to see deano in the dugout before the game laughing with the players. Pezsko and Ohara were all smiles, which is very encouraging!
I am suprised no one has left a comment regarding the diving antics of Blacburn who would do well on Splash. Every chance they got they dived, which went totally unchecked by the referee including the penalty.
To compond the refs poor display was the booking of Doyle, why was that a booking?
There was contact for the pen, I dont think we can complain. I was more annoyed that M. Olsen wasnt sent off, after already being booked he hacked down pezsko with only 5 mins left. It could have made the difference in us getting the second goal.
That wasnt too long after the Doyle booking, total inconsistency from the ref.
The ref was so shit today! That was no penalty as well! Yes there was contact but the bloody twat looked for Sako’s leg. Not too mention that Olsen should of been sent off.
To me one of the saddest things in football these days is the seemingly widespread belief that, in a contact sport, “any contact in the box = a penalty.” That there is no such rule appears to be no impediment to its spread. This belief now apparently spans from fans and officials up to even the highest level of players and ex-players. It’s like the collective are saying: We’ve all watched Serie A football in Italy, and what’s crooked enough for them is good enough for us!
I saw the incident for the first time yesterday, and no way was it a penalty. Well, unless you believe the “any contact in the box = a penalty” ‘rule’. Yes there was contact (actively sought for by the Blackburn player), but the dive after it was pure theatre. The question should surely be: “was it a foul?”, not “was there any contact?” We had the same debate on this blog a year or two ago, when our [then] very own Matt Jarvis went down like a ton of bricks when brushed (no more) by James Perch of Newcastle.
Still, I suppose I am relatively old (47), and can remember the [good old] days when there actually had to be a foul committed, irrespective of where it took place on the pitch, to invoke the referee’s whistle.
An encouraging start to life under Saunders, and perhaps a positive glimpse of what’s to come with O’Hara, who is a class above at this level, and Peszko returning to fitness. A few additions of Saunders’ own and it could be a promising future, albeit probably too late to mount any kind of push this season.
In Saunders we seem to be trying to get to the Premier League by any means possible, i.e. back to the McCarthy-esque ‘putting a shift in’, and worry about staying there when we get there. All I know is I enjoyed watching my team again.
UTW
Disappointed with both the result and performance BUT I suppose anything was better than the dross Stale was serving.
I still think we’ll be involved in a relegation scrap because we’ve still got the same shite players and their massive egos.
Two years ago I spent a wonderful day on the golf course having the piss taken out of me by Stephen George Bull.
One of the best days of my life.
Yesterday, after goofing off work (dont tell my boss) I tuned in to Wolves Player for the audio commentary, and said to myself “Fuck me, it’s Bully!!”
It wasnt, it was Andy Thompson doing the colour commentary, but his voice is identical to Bullys!
Brilliant!
Listening to 2 black country voices commentating on the Wufflers, I was nearly in heaven.
None of your namby – pamby plum in cheek voices, but good down to earth black country folk, telling it like wot it was.
Their comments after the penalty summed it up superbly.
“What a blatant dive,
The ref’s waved play on.
No, he’s give it.
What a load of crap”
And all through the game, the flowing commentary was peppered with Tiptonisms.
Made a wonderful change from listening to Texas drawls and Spanish over here.
Oh, the game?
Result irrelevant, given the shit who were playing for us.
Clear out needed before Saunders can implement his policies better.
Hope he does better in the transfer market than his dad, Ron Saunders did back in the eighties, when manager of the shit!!
(He sold us Bully, in case you babies dont know your history)
Talking of the shit, nice to see Reading win today.
Onwards and upwards

Reading the above diverse blogs is wuite interesting. I think we are all agreed there was better spirit and understanding. Clealry the difference between Deano and SS.
We seem to disagree widely about the players and there contributions, I wonder why.
For me I thought we did OK some players just needing to get match fit and some playing time. I hope cassidy gets a run in the squad. I dodnt think we will ever agree on Henry, for me the problem is he lacks creativity, rarely puts a defense splitting ball through.
But I do think Blackburn did play a very good spoiling game last night, they knew we would be up for it and played accordingly. I know we dont like Murphy but fair play he knows how to distribute the ball and open defences. Pretty good save on the line two. I just wish we had someoen as cool on the ball as him.
I had the feeling there was the threat of a hefty fine for any Wolves player who didn’t take a free-kick by wellying it 30 yds upfield.
Our results might improve a tad, but, by God, that was agricultural.
It also leaves Saunders in no doubt that he has one hell of a task on his hands. Still dropping Solbakken’s half-time mogadon and Horlick’s for some raw meat and bracer at least meant we continued to try in the second half.
Let’s be clear here. Deano’s immediate job is to keep us in this division. Come the summer we have to have a huge clear out. Sylvan “the pieman” Blake , ward, stearman, Berra, foley all have to catch the next bus out of Molineux.
Last night was kick and rush and will get us to mid table but no further.
As Oxley Wolf said Rome wasn’t built in a day. However we are much dependant on
the “relationship” between Deano and Moxey. Just as SS set out to do he has to
build his own team. But I am encouraged that some passion was there and we stopped Rovers playing.
Make no mistake we are in a survival season and think with additions and some movement of DROSS
Deano can start this process. Morgan back your Manager.
Was Moxey at the match?
There was a shot of Morgan and his entourage but I didn’t see Moxey in it.
I suspect, (hope), the appointment of Deano might lessen Moxey’s power.
It seems the relationship between Chairman and Manager is stronger.
Rome wasn’t built in a day starring Dave Jones
Rome wasn’t built in a day 2 starring Glen Hoddle
Barnsley could be built in 5 years starring Mad Mick and the Irish Rovers
Jez Moxey’s Porsche cannot be cleaned in a day starring Terry Connor
The Vikings sacked Rome in 6 months (despite being late for training) starring the Solbakken Cultured Football Revolution, big in Barcelona
Rome might be built in 2years starring Deano and the hopeful 20,000
WHEN ARE PEOPLE FINALLY GOING TO REALISE ROME WILL NEVER BE BUILT HERE WHILST JEZ MOXEY IS RUNING THE PRODUCTION.
Very funny and very true….
Rome will never be built in modern day football…
But the sentiment is in the statement.
As long as there are signs of progression then unity and support will be gavalnised and we will all be moving in the right direction .
Stop slagging off Jeremy and lets get behind Deano and the boys!
If anything it was a foul on Doyle!
The amount of late challenges by Blackburn players which were left unpunished was sickening .
Very shoddy officiating .
Oxley. I want Jez Moxey to be the chief executive of a successful Wolverhampton Wanderers, but look at the facts, look at the history, look at the comments coming out even now, which are not encouraging that we will buy any quality this Jan.I hope you at least agree our squad lacks quality, that should be obvious to everybody. We didn’t fail to beat Blackburn because of Blackburn’s diving but because our strikers were not good enough.By the way Jez Moxey was paid nearly £2.5m over a two year period according to the last published accounts.Karen Brady was paid £179,000 a year in her last year at the Blues. How does he justift that? At that sort of money he should be prepared to accept criticism for the club’s failures.
Chris I agree with you totally, Moxey is a luxury this club cannot afford.
Below Oxley says that he has a good business sense on deals etc…
Has he?
If he had, would we have gone from Premiership to 17th in the Championship?
Would Dean Saunders be gobsmacked at the amount of staff at Wolves has, from canteen to ceo? He is talking of a cull and let’s hope he persuades Morgan, that paying a ceo £2.5m over a two year period, is spunking money away.
Chris H.You make some valid points.
I don’t think he is much of a football man really.
Good business sense on deals etc .
And his own bank balance ….
But surely it’s Morgan who needs to pulling the strings and restructuring the finances and salaries .
I 100% agree with you in relation to a successful wolves warrants a chief executive being paid a healthy salary.
Lets face it in a nut shell .
Mr Moxey is arrogant, pompous ,economic with the truth , snide , crafty and should be a politician as he can talk and talk and talk forever and a day and just plough out all sorts of drivel without actually really saying anything ..
I think he should retire and form a new political party!
Anyone who changes his name from Jeremy to jez has to be a worry….
Anyway there goes my statement about forgetting Moxey!
I think he has been very quiet the last few weeks.
As previously reported has kept a very low profile when Saunders was appointed and long may it continue!
Granted I like the way he pulls off deals and drives a hard bargain but the man is a problem and loves the sound of his own voice.
Has no relationship with the man on the street or fan in the stand.
The whole redevelopment of molineux , although it was Morgans baby was rather hasty.
Stability in the premiership was what was crying out for and yet four years on we are back to square one with a lovely new stand but a half empty stadium .
Oxley, I don’t really care whether or not he is pompous .arrogant or what ever ,I don;t mind if he is well paid, although I do think a salary evidently 5 times greater than Karen Brady’s is over the top. What I want from a Chief Executive of Wolverhampton Wanderers is someone who can oversee a successful period on the football pitch ,whilst being sensible with the finances.Sadly from what I have seen Jez will keep the finances tight, but will fail on the football side.I agree the big strategic decisions, building the stand etc belong to Steve Morgan. So far between them they have largely wasted the wonderful opportunity presented to the club by Sir Jack’s generosity.Let us all hope the Dean Saunders era will be more successful and re establish our club in the Premier. If not with the increasing money advantages in the Premier, we are likely to be second best to our near neighbours for a generation. That will be an awful legacy for Messrs Morgan and Moxey to put into the museum.
SS sat through 38 videos to get a rough idea of how crap we were(are).DS has obviously purchased a copy of MMs’ best selling video ‘How to put a Shi*t in ‘ and listening to the soundbites has also splashed out on ‘ Mick McCarthys’ Greatest Hits(Bollocks to Football).
Oxley Wolf- well said. Deano needs a clear policy about finance. Moxey needs to
lower his sights on how much he can get for DROSS, sowe can get some
Quality in.
Too true. While Jezzer did well to get the fees he did for Fletch and Jarvo he won’t get top dollar for rubbish. We need to get this junk out of the club and off the wage bill. Already we are hearing DS has to sell before he can buy. Moxey holding out for inflated fees will only shorten the transfer window for Dean, Just like it did for Stale last summer. We never fc*k*ng learn. I don’t anticipate much coming in this January – but I was saying that back in October.
The school of thought that says all the players are shite and should be got rid of obviously have recent results on there side but it is just not going to happen. Getting rid of a team full of players is far more difficult than just sacking the manager.
It looks like Deano is going to have more of a direct line to Steve Morgan and his remit is going to be cutting numbers but this is going to naturally target the players who are not playing ( No one plays more every week than Wardinio ). To achieve these cuts it also looks like there will be only a few players coming in. I still think the squad is good enough to push up the division. The Mccarthy players have won promotion before and played in the Premier for 3 seasons. Also while Stale couldnt implement a new playing style he has left a legacy of some interesting additional players with potential.
I guess we’ve got to give Saunders a bit more time to see if he adapts hid approach to any new players he brings in and starts trying to play more attractive football, but it really does seem like Moxey and Morgan have tried their ‘experiment’ with the modern, passing game and are now reverting back to something more familiar. I guess if this brings results again it’s gonna be hard not to get behind it.
One concern I have though is that we seemed to be shaping the club more in the approach of Solbakken, especially coaching and scouting, and I wonder if the arrival of Saunders will render a lot of these changes kinda pointless.
First game , as I suspected the usual frauds put a shift in. Obviously just when they want to. Nice to see ds think a bit outside the box. But the changes didn’t worry the players that should be worried . I will worry if he can get the problem guys producing, because we all know how bad they can be. We didn’t lose so that’s something. Otherwise shorterm not bad, long term we’ll see…..
Hopefully not a taste of what to come as that was dire. Got to give him a chance as he’d only had 5 days though.
Picking Zubar loses a little bit of faith though for me.
Last paragraph here feels prophetic. Good little article on WSC on Saunders by a Donnie fan http://www.wsc.co.uk/wsc-daily/1156-january-2013/9284-mixed-feelings-about-dean-saunders-exit-at-doncaster
Interesting read that mate.
The clear out he oversaw last summer is something he’ll have to repeat.
I don’t really care if his style is ugly. I was all for the Solbakken football revolution but the board lost their nerve. If we have to take a step back to go forward then so be it.
You can get out of this division by lumping it. If it’s effective and we can start winning games nobody will complain.
Would anyone be bothered if we’d got Allardyce in? I don’t think hoofball is the problem, people just don’t want Saunders.
Winning games is the only way to gain favour.
Thanks for highlighting this article. A sobering read for anyone who believes DS is going to lead us to the promised land. In short, didn’t set Wrexham on fire; didn’t set Doncaster on fire; the Wolverhampton Fire Brigade can expect a quiet 18 months.
Seems Doncaster’s home games weren’t a barrel of fun either.
My heart sank when I saw Zubar in defence and Foley on the wing. Worse still Henry and Davis in central midfield together. Thankfully O’Hara came on and within seconds added the touch of class we’ve been desperately lacking. Hopefully, Deano learns a lesson from that. Why Davis came off and Henry stayed on is beyond me. I know I’m not Henry’s biggest fan so I watched the whole game back, looking out for his outstanding contribution. No sign of it. Most notable for being out of position and giving away free-kicks, on the one occasion he took up a good position following a Sako corner he delayed his pass, delayed it again before making a 6 yard pass BEHIND Roger Johnson (who was just ahead of him on the right wing). MOTM? I can only assume it was done for the devilment of seeing Murphy hand over the champagne. Please sell him to Ipswich. He’s had his day and he’s holding us back. On the plus front, I’m liking the new manager. As predicted, even with the same bunch of players, we looked a hundred times better than we did under SS. And if we’re not going to win, at least we can look forward to an entertaining press conference.
I agree wwwebs, i thought Karl epitomised the lack of class in the team. I thought Johnson was easily our best player, even without the goal. But we all see it differently don’t we?
if Henry is so bad, how do you explain that over last 3 seasons ( and esp this season) we have got more points with him in the team than without ? He has only missed one draw. Every other time we have played without him we have lost. Now it might be difficult to see just why that happens but it does and it makes it difficult to drop him.
Without checking I’m not sure but I suspect Davis hasn’t started a match that we have won yet this season.
I have noticed this we do seem better with him than without but am buggared if i know why.
In 2010/11 Henry missed 9 league games and we won 4 of them (we won 7 of the 29 he played in). Last season he missed 7 league games and we won 2 of them (we won 3 of the 31 he played in). It’s a myth that we’re better with Henry. It’s a myth he was MOTM (watch it back) and, I’m sorry to be the one to have to break the brainwashing to you, you need to get over it.
And I think the reason Henry missed those games was for stupid sendings off which cost us even more points.
While we are on the subject, I thought i would vent on officating games in this era.
Why oh why does it seem so poor. Maybe it the mist of time but I really do not rememberit being so bad in the 50s,60s and 70s. Some blame TV some blame the assessing of referees. I am not so sure, but I do think perhaps all the taping and assessing is making Refs want a starring role as well.
If i remember, way back the ref was assessed by a report from both teams.
I thought the game calling against Blackburn was pretty crap. Let too much go then called some really odd ones and nearly managed a card for everyone. In my book and using 1970s criteria that was not a penalty, the blackburn made it into one, yes he left the leg in and the guy went over but the play was already broken up and he could have avoided, but today that is out of the question.
For me what is so ironic is the way refs today ignore stuff that should and used to be called. I think modern players know if they do it all the time it wont be called. Blatant pushing and shoving and arm wrestling is the most obvious. The rules are quite clear that you can not shove guys. Other stuff i have vented before like refs allowing kick of with guys of side. Gaining milleage at throw ins, and generally cheating and trying to con the ref.
I remember jim Finney the Ref from Hereford visiting our school and talking to the Soccer teams. The point he stressed was making sure the tackle was for and at the ball, that was a fair tackle, if the other player then tripped over your leg that was not a foul unless in his judgement you had deliberately made that happen. He also mentioned that he would usually let it go if he thought the other guy could have stayed up but didnt. His point was there is always likely to be a tangle resulting from some tackles but the tackled player should try to avoid as it was part of the tackle. Today it is 100% the reverse.
My book that was a very soft Penalty given by a linesman who I dont think could see as well as the Ref who was letting it go.
Agree all the bad stuff about Moxey, I guess we have all seen players coming in and wondered who would leave, but no one did. Clearly he has never heard the term “Cut your losses”. This is one he has got badly wrong. Its where just doing the math doesnt work. The longer you hang on the lower the value becomes. Noe everyone in the world knows we have to lose players and will just wait it out.
UTW
Just read about Leigh Griffith’s racist tweet.
It makes you think that maybe he’s better left up north.
How about having it written into players’ contracts – “No tweets you twats!”.
Then perhaps they’d do their talking on the football pitch.
Agreed, did you notice he has 13,000 followers.
I know! – a lot more people follow him than probably listened to The Sermon on The Mount.
That was Joey Barton wasn’t it?
I’ve also just watched the penalty incident on Sky.
Oh Dear! Oh Dear!
I think Ruben Rochina has been to the ‘Jay Rodriguez School of Diving’.
Yep he manged to find the leg to trip over. Cant recall who but one of our guys got a full blooded shove in the box both hands and nothing called.
Frankly I am glad i dodnt play today, I am not sure I really know what a guaranteed fair tackle is anymore. Nor sure refs do.
I am dispappointed to hear that our new manager’s ideal Wolves player would be a man who is possibly the most obnoxious cheat in the modern game. Mind you, if this is the new management model, we might be onto a winner – Saunders could be just what we need. The players should immediatley face a strict regime of handball training before every match. We will punch our way to victory. Viva Suarez!! Viva Maradona!! Viva RonDeano!!
Just pointing Suarez out is unfair. A lot of other professional footballers cheat like that but yes, Suarez does it a lot. He has started to stop as his reputation is catching up but he is such a good player, so if we get a ‘Suarez i’ll be happy.
Yep point taken CroatianWolf; singling out one player is perhaps unfair, but not as unfair as cheating. It just winds me up to hear a manager of Wolves singling out this player as someone to emulate. He isn’t a good role model – he is a very gifted footballer who likes playing handball to score goals. I’m sure most people in Ghana, Mansfield and Manchester would agree!
Hi all, first time comment having only just discovered this site. Really impressed with the blog, which I felt summed up the game perfectly.
It was painfully clear that we spent 90% of our 3 seasons in the prem in the bottom three fighting for survival, because we had chronically insufficient quality when on the ball to supplement the ‘graft’. Coupled with tactics that when we didn’t have the ball, consisted of: Running around at 100 mph chasing balls that invariably left us too stretched and, after half an hour or so, visibly tired; to when we did have the ball: Relying on trying to grt the ball wide as often as poss to get crosses into the box, or simply kicking it long.
Lets hope that Saunders recognises, and is committed to, his teams having this necessary balance of having genuine quality (and PL experince) on the ball where it matters, along with the work rate and commitments he’s clearly wanting to re-instill ala MM!
Welcome mate and thanks for kind words. Always room for one more around here my friend.
Agree with your point regarding MM. I have a blog up my sleeve about our style and tactics over the last 3 seasons.
I’ve had a bunch of margeritas, so pologies up front!!
Blog is no good up yer sleeve, Thomas, and if it’s about tactics and style over the last few seasons then it should be up yer arse coz we havent had any or either of the above for years!!!
As I said, been in Chilis restaurant, watchin the Houston Texans get stuffed, could have been the Wolves, and had a few drinks, then a few free ones, so feelin no pain,, so fuck off west brum, eh??
In complete agreement Manc Wolf – this is a superb blog, excellently presented with great contributors. If only the team we love could perform at the same level as Thomas and Ben, we might do great things!
First of all think of the positives, its a point, performance wise a little better than what we have been used lately.
Deano’s only been here a week so cut him some slack, don’t forget these’s player’s have been playing with no confidence or style of play that they’ve been used to, so lets look at the team after few more games when he’s had the chance to do a little bit of dealing in the market.
if moxey and morgan sanctions it.
Glad he gave Cassidy and zubs a chance, but things take time to happen so perhaps with a few more games under their belts they will come good.
Thought Sako was m,o,t,m for me he put some lovely ball in but no one got on the end of them,
that brings me to the point of a big robust striker needed especially in this division because our strikers are bit light weight imo.
So the sanitised wolves website says our new manager may need 2 years to sort out the squad. The reason – the players are on very high wages (for their limited ability), and the club want astronomical fees for them. Well whose fault is that Moxey – you p***k.
So much for our (in his own words) much vaunted CEO, the mighty one who negotiates fees for new players, their wages and contracts. Only option is to not renew contracts on expiry, classic being Berra. Simple solution – play Margreiter or Danny B, and let that not good enough for the premiership Scottish centre half go and don`t offer him a new contract.
Problem is if we sell the easy ones to move ie the kids, we`ll be left with MM`s remnants – not good enough, not quick or mobile enough, does anyone know when Ward`s contract is up.
Why did we give players obviously not good enough such good contracts, a major contribution to the mess the club is in, on andoff the pitch. Moxey should resign in disgrace or be sacked for gross incompetence.
I hope and suspect Morgan has clearly recognised, who is responsible and told him to get it sorted. I agree it is total incompetence. I think you are very right, if we are not careful the wrong uns will have to go. Berra wanted to go, we were gonna let him, then the next we hear is we are in negotiations with him. I agree let him buggar of and get what he can elsewhare.
This lot is moxeys fault and he has to fix. Maybe the summer sales will have to be applied to his future losses.
Are our players on half wages or not ? If so that shouldn’t be such a problem in moving them on….. ?
And secondly, about contracts, I thought that putting them on long contracts was a way of increasing their value ? That is not such a good plan when their form drops of course. I should think M&M will write off this season now, as long as we stay up, they’ll be content to trim the overheads by shedding those who aren’t playing, bring in one or two old pros and wait till the summer to lose the likes of Berra.
My guess is John that, even though we were one of or even the worst paying prem sides, 50% of a crap prem wage is probably more than most champ sides are willing to pay and when you factor in that the players we are trying to get rid of are getting on and/or not up to much, you can see why not many sides seem to want them. It will be interesting to see how many actually leave in Jan, I think we’ll end up having to keep them and wind down their contracts or pay them off if and when we get back to the prem, which is why DS is already saying it might take 2 yrs to get rid.
NY Wolf said “For me what is so ironic is the way refs today ignore stuff that should and used to be called. I think modern players know if they do it all the time it wont be called. Just lately this started to make my blood boil. Any ref with balls could stop it all together, straight red for holding hands, no exceptions. If you want to use your hands go and play rugby, see how long you would last cheating and arguing with the ref.
Give em an inch and they take a yard.
If the rule doesnt matter, thats fine take it out the book. if its in the book its the refs job.
For me just trying to decieve or con the ref is cheating. its a card.
In total agreement with that.
The one slightly worrying thing is that criticising the referee has started to rear it’s ugly head in RU now. Admittedly not on the field of play but you do wonder how long it will be before it does.
Oh no now ward is spouting of to the media. Apperntly needs to explain to us thickos that if we win games we will get points and move up the table. Maybe someone just told him.
Is it right Berra to Villa?? Dont beleive it.
Please don’t get my BP any higher NY. It’s bad enough having to endure the sight of that donkey in a Wolves shirt year after bloody year without having to listen to his brainless twaddle. Will we ever be rid of him?(Others may think more kindly!).
BTW, just seen Bristol City have signed my first choice as manager, Sean O’Driscoll. Be interesting to see how they do under him. His teams always play good flowing football, so obviously no good to Wolves then.
I’m with you there mate.
He would have been my first choice too but what’s done is done and we have to give DS a fair crack of the whip.
Hopefully across Ward’s lazy backside!
Yeah i’ll go along with that Doog, give DS ( and sadists!) a fair crack of the whip.
Yep me too, I was a bit underwhelemed with Deano, but there has to be another Fergie out there somewhere. I like what he says so he has my total support.
yes absolutle mystery to me how three managers think ward is a Left back. I remember clearly when MM drafted him in there in an Emergency. cant recall whose injury it was. Then started talking him up and hes been there ever since apart from a few games. Like if i say he is a left back then he is a left back!
really looking forward to next matches and selections, I think it will give us a good feel for how he sees things.
I hate the shit that Hammil and Griffiths have been up to but bring em back make em toe the line and see what they got or fire them for gross misconduct.
They need to be fired!
Griffith is another homesick little t*** who wants to stay near mummy, neads a size 10 up his arse. Hammil could be a fair player if he had half a brain.
I think we should give Deano a fair crack at the whip.
I note he thinks Siggy is a midfielder.
I’d like to see him and Cassidy to be the two strikers against Sheffield.
Unfortunately too many of the players, talented or not, have played together in a losing team.
The less experienced at losing should play.
Think the best we can hope for, is to stay in this division this season.
I cannot seeing us bringing in anyone until the summer.
Unfortunately our bloated playing staff, on bloated wages, don’t appear attractive to other clubs.
Saunders’s perception of the situation regarding the staff in general shows Moxey as not being such an astute businessman as many profess.
Roll on the next match
I want saunders to sell one or two of the long term established players. Dont care who. It might give the rest of the old bridgade a kick up the arse and make the realise a) they have to perform and b) how lucky and fortunate they are to play for our team.
I hear Hammil is back,i know he’s been a prick but we could do with him to play on the rightwing to get plenty of crosses in for our new striker when we get one..?
Karl henry, 29, signed 4 year deal in august 2012. he is guaranteed to get several £1000′s per week for the next 4 years, no matter how shit he plays until he is 33. Well done moxey and morgan.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19268031
Unfortunately there are several players who we would like to ship out who have
The Moxey Money no Object contracts.
I hope Siggy get a start, he looks bright & sharp but most likely needs a few for games, as suggested why not him with Cassidy, nothing ventured , nothing gained.
Agreed grazi. let see what they got.
I have always believed that the two positions that require the most match fitness and sharpness is firstly stikers and secondly the keeper.
The difference between scoring and not scoring is so slight your strikers really do need to be match sharp. For a stiker to be play good he really needs a run in the team and to be match sharp. I think we saw this wiith fletcher, when MM was not playing regulalrly. Once he got a run he produced. I think we all know goal scoring and goal keeping is almost instinctive you aint got time to think about it. I think we saw that against Blackburn we did have a couple of great chances but did not put em away. I know we talk about the past but Doog and Bully come to mind, instinctive scorers who put the ball away. OK i know they deserved their place so played every game they were fit. But it is once place where to play good you got to play against good teams. SEB and Doyle seemed to have lost it so put the youngsters together for a run.
Something has happened to both SEB and Doyle but lets decide who we are going to bet on and give em run together.
What I liked about Cassidy against Blackburn, was that when they passed it back to their goalie, he was sprinting often forlornly, after the ball. However, their back four, as he continued doing it, became more nervous. Long time since I’ve seen a striker at Wolves pursuing lost causes like Cassidy last friday. It’s the losers we must drop, whatever their salary, potential value, or not, etc…..
