Luton Town 1 Wolves 0

According to Bedfordshire folklore, ex-Luton Town boss Mick Harford became so enraged with one of his underperformers that he locked him up in a cupboard overnight as punishment.

4th round Luton

If only our hard suffering away fans could have found it on their travels, they could have squeezed half a dozen of our losers in before throwing away the key.

It’s doubtful their egos would fit in, despite the space left by missing guts and stomachs for a fight.

They’d be too busy arguing with the manager about being hard done by anyway, or the indignity of playing a style of football that they don’t like.

Maybe being the fourth worst squad in the history of the Premier League failed to deflate the arrogant bubble that they continue to float around in.

After playing in the biggest embarrassment since that defeat on November 24 1986 they should finally hang their heads in shame and admit defeat like we always do.

Kenilworth Road

To quote Mike Taylor from Radio WM: “Luton Town showed a great deal of fortitude typical of a cup game, but what wasn’t typical was their keeper having to make 10 saves. Wolves probably created 3 or 4 chances in the whole match.

“Wolves just didn’t do enough. Nowhere near enough.”

And it wasn’t like the defeat came as the biggest surprise to anyone of gold and black persuasion who knows a bit about football.

That accolade went to someone who boasts neither, in the shape of Steve Morgan who actually bothered to attend and watch the club he purports to run, for once.

If this latest debacle hasn’t injected a modicum of professional pride into a man who has failed to show any for so long, then we really are on a slippery slope.

A plummet of 35 league places in 15 months should have prompted some sort of meaningful action to arrest such a slump way before now.

After Terry Connor, he finally gave us Stale Solbakken and a handful of quid from a ‘treasure chest’, a £25 million transfer windfall and a small fortune in television money combined.

With no effort, investment or inclination ever being shown by Mr Morgan at any time since Stephen Hunt scored at the North Bank end, I can offer a genuine Scandinavian solution befitting of his parameters.

…A cupboard from IKEA to pack away a shameless group of fraudsters, like the one Mick Harford once used.

  1. Oh dear.

First line of the Guardian’s report on the game:

“This was a shock but it did not feel like it, so comfortable were the underdogs in victory.”

    Says it all really.

Cardiff might have been eliminated by Macclesfield but they fielded the kids. Wolves put out their strongest eleven (or at least what we’re led to believe is) and still couldn’t even get on the scoresheet, let alone contemplate victory.

Solbakken will probably bite the bullet and nobody (not even me) can argue.

I’m still of the opinion that you can’t say the experiment failed when you didn’t give it a chance of succeeding (i.e. meaningful investment) but I just don’t have a clear vision of where Ståle is trying to take us.

Moxey was battered for stating that the players should be doing better, but he’s correct. They should be.

They’re bad, but they’re not THIS bad.

The manager should have got more from the group, however poor or disenfranchised the group might be.

Your right but I disagree with you about Moxey he is just as much to blame because he knows like the rest of us Morgans not interested, and Moxey goes along with what ever Morgan wants if Morgans says jump Moxey says how high. That’s why he been CE so long the owners have changed but Moxey never does. You could says he’s only protecting his job fare comment I suppose but as they saying goes ” I was only obeying orders ” is no defence when you can see something being torn apart right in front of you. Ive give up on Stale today was his last chance for me he played the same pretenders as usual in that respect to me now he’s no different from McCarthy he did the same and did his clone TC. Please god give us Ince or O’Drisscol no in fact both and a new owner and for once and for all FUCK Moxey out of Molinuex the back door like Mick. Amen

Caeeful what you accuse me of, you get strung up in these parts for less.

    • Totally agree Thomas, Solbalken should have got more from these players especially against non-league opponents. I too was of the thought that Solbalken should be given a chance to change our style and move Wolves on, but it is obvious the Mcarthy boys have not brought in or he has totaly confused them in what they are supposed to be doing. Sorry to say I think it is time for him to go.
Not sure if O’Drisscol is our solution, may be just another version of MCarthy, good championship manager but may run out of ideas in the Premiership.

What an insightful business man. 3 years on, bottom half of the Championship, kicked out of the FA cup in the 3rd round and probably managerless by tomorrow morning. You don’t have to look too far to see the problems at Wolves.

  3. It isn’t a matter of changing player A for Player B.
It isn’t a matter of changing the away strip.
It isn’t a matter of changing the half-time pie supplier.
None of the above will cure the Molineux Malaise (polite-speak).
It’s not a matter of simply changing the manager.
    Are you getting warmer ?

  4. Ben .. you write totally from the heart .. and with statistics that make ME sit up and take notice. Even in commentary Matt Murray recognises we put in no effort and play with no pride, conviction or passion for our club.
The most annoying thing about all that you say is that Morgan will do fuck all about this alarming demise.
Why .. because he doesn’t give One toss about you,me and all the others who passionately care for WWFC.
His wealth is unbelievable .. approaching the 1 billion mark I bet. I can only he hope he and Moxey fuck off sooner rather than later.. coz they are wrecking us.
I’m going to put all my efforts into derailing these two knobs .. Mark my words.

    • Why would Mr Moxey duck off ?
      He’s only about 50 (isn’t he?).
He’s had > 12 cushy years chez the Mol.
Unless you – the local fans – turn the heat up he will be there until he chooses to retire, say in 5 or 10 years time (by which time you might be playing the likes of Luton and Kidderminster every season -assuming they don’t get promotion).

  5. Speechless. Who thought it could get worse than it already is. A NON LEAGUE team just bossed our STRONGEST 11 off the pitch.

Lost for words. Will someone please fix my club?

    • Reading the match report too I see that it was FOLEY who gave away the goal. FOLEY who was so appalling against peterborough and ipswich. FOLEY who was pushed into midfield and did dreadfully against palace.

If a player is playing badly. Consistently. You drop him and play one who isn’t. Management 101.

But that’s just one problem in this big whole mess.

Is there anyone now who doubts this is the worst team we’ve ever had ? I would not let any of these players play for Wolves again. And I would not let Johnson enter any wolves property again.

Its all over. This club will be relegated not just this season but next season and the one after that. Nothing … absolutely nothing can stop it now. In four years time we will be playing Stourbridge and losing.

The board are as much to blame they dither too much over the obvious decision Mick should’ve gone after the Swansea game at home regardless that we drew that game. They bowed to fan pressure over Steve Bruce. And then they don’t back their new man significantly and left him to try and create a passing and possession brand of football with what’s left of Micks hoofers and shift putteriners. It was never going to work.

  11. Stale surely got to go now. I backed him against early criticism but the longer has been in the job the worse we have got. He has stuck with the same formation and the same players and just seems to take them to a new low week after week. Even in the victories over Birmingham and Blackpool the football was very poor.

Still don’t think this will resonate with Morgan. As long as the incomings are satisfactory to his bank balance , this business venture will maintain the same pattern, the fact we are a football team with passionate fans that love this club is but a mere side factor, as the yanks say … We the fans are just” collateral damage”

What the fxxx does he have to do to get sacked? Shag Morgan’s wife? Or would he talk bollocks and wriggle out of that too.. Guess where I see the root cause…oh and for fxxx sake sack this idiot should resign

  16. After another fraudulent perfomance by our so called first teamers why the hell should we bother to turn up on friday night to support a team and manager who by my reckoning should NEVER be allowed to wear the shirt again.
Still can’t understand why Solbakken decided to field a side of no hopers to play in a cup game, when he could have played a fringe sqaud of young hopefulls and bench warmer’s like i said in a previous post,i’m sure he would have been better served and would the paying fans who travelled to luton.
But after all said and done somethings gotta change and i’m of the persuasion that it must be
the manager who gets the sack and get someone in now before its to late. MORGAN IT RESTS WITH YOU. WE NEED A MIRACLE.

I dont know why there is all the fuss about the result.
The underdogs lost, as most of us predicted.
How can a disjointed team of underachievers be expected to win at Fortress Kenilworth?
No, the upset of the round would have been if we had won, or even drawn.
There are not enough words in my thesaurus to describe the depths of ineptitude to which we have sunk.
We are going down faster than a thousand dollar whore, and there will be no coming back.

    • Interesting to see how many predicted a defeat on the last post.
      I think a majority.
Did Henry & O’Hara create anything today?
Three shots on goal in 100 minutes says it all.
We need a change at the top and fast, although the manager does seem somewhat spineless.
Wouldn’t mind Ince, or Paulo Di Canio.
Someone who wouldn’t stand for any bollocks from the players.
However the manager would have to work with Moxey, who we all know is a maggot in the flesh of Molineux.
Until the chairman and ceo go we are in big trouble I think.

Now for Morgan and Moxey. Time to go guys. Stick to building houses Steve but do it on your patch not on ours, get out of our club and take Moxey with you.

    • Is that the same Reading that O’Hara, Doyle and co were likening us to earlier this season?! Remember those joke platitudes that the E&S trotted out? Yeah right, we’re still on course ‘to do a Reading’ aren’t we…Would love to see how that comparison is stacking up now!!

    • Sorry I wont be throwing pants on the pitch on Friday.
      Cos I wont be going.
Season Ticket holders or not the ONLY reason to go on Friday is if your a closet Blackburn fan.

The players do not deserve my support at the moment
The Manager does not deserve my support at the moment
And sure as hell those 2 pricks running the Club do not deserve my support at the moment

The only way Moxey and Morgan will get the message is for people to stay away.
Even if you bought a season ticket you are not obliged to go.

Disgrace…WTF is happening to my team, this can’t not be allowed to go on any longer, surely something has to change now?…Nouble just been on twitter saying he is most definitely NOT injured, so he won’t play again (who signed him, who made that decision??), Frimpong on twitter saying MM should never have left Wolves as he was a top, top manager…dig at Stale perhaps, so he won’t be coming this month either…this is just a mess, I would just love to come across Poxy or Scouse Twat one evening to give them a piece of my mind, and a smash of the mouth as well.

The inevitable happens and then we are again excited by potential managers and support staff, but what happens..??? SS appointed and after a brightish start we are again in free fall and yes this is another disaster but far worse than the previous one we’re now heading towards Div 1 at an alarming rate, but no-one seems too concerned within the club just us the supporters, strange.

Something happened behind the scenes about Oct 2011, we started to slide.
Money promised for Jan 2012, didn’t happen, we continued to slide.
Something happened behind the scenes Jan/Feb 2012 we still continued to slide.
MMc sacked no Plan B, we still continue to slide.
TC takes the helm, we’re still sliding down to the CH.
SS and his crew join the fray, a brief glimpse of hope, but then we’re sliding faster and faster and faster towards Div 1.
Sorry mate I think you’ve been hoodwinked and promises mean nothing with these pair. I’m sure you’re a sincere and honest man but the party is over and the fat lady is about to sing.
I don’t suggest that you resign you should just carry on regardless and wait for the text. There won’t be a fanfare or a tear in the eye. The experiment will be over and yuo will be out of sight.
All of these happenings have occured during your time, JM and SM. What a coicidence.

Are they all in it together. ?

    • Like I say Cwmbranwulf, 35 league places dropped in 15 months. Then today, we lose to a team 59 places below us.
And there was Jez, stating we’d be pushing to be a top 3 / 4 or 5 club (quoted March 2011). No wonder he thinks we should be doing better, eh?!

I’m thinking I can never support this team again while Henry, Johnson, Foley, Ward and Berra are playing in it – perhaps some others too – I would still give Solbakken a chance to improve the squad by getting rid of these (and Blake and Stearman), and playing the young ones and a few new signings to go along with the promising players already brought in but unfortunately injured.

    • I agree about those players being inept John but I am losig sympathy with Solbakken as he keeps picking them week in week out. It is insane! Those 5 players plus Forde and Doyle should all be out the team for Blackburn but you just know at least Berra, Henry and Doyle will be in that team and it will yet another turgid display.

Morgan needs to pay up certain players and CEO’s contracts and ditch them out of the club. Once thats done he needs to spend some of the vast amount of money he accrued in the summer to back his man in charge.

THIS MAJORITY OF THE SQUAD SIMPLY ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY PASSING FOOTBALL.

It wasn’t last year and it won’t be no matter how many years training SS can give them.

Transcript of a telephone call between Jez Moxey and Steve Morgan.
SM. That you Jezz? We just got dumped out of the cup by Luton!
JM. What cup’s that then? I thought we had the weekend off.
SM. Yes, So did the players. I think it’s pretty serious now, Luton are a few places below us in the league. By the way, what’s that dinging noise?
JM. Oh that’s the microwave – my pie’s done. Can we talk while I eat it?
SM. No, I’ve had to stop counting my money to make this phone call so give your fat stomach a rest. I think we’re going to have to sack Ståle. The fans are starting to get restless.
JM. Fans? Oh! Yes, I remember. They’re the people that pay my bonus. Have you got anybody in mind? What’s Terry O’Connor doing?
SM. No, we tried that. He’s gone already. I tell you what though, I’ve got a mate with a proven track record. He’s already taken a team down from this league so he knows the ropes.
JM. Sounds good to me – who is it?
    SM. Dean Saunders.
    JM. ………………………….Dean who!?
SM. Saunders. An ex Liverpool mate. He’ll do it and he’s cheap!
JM. That settles it. Get him in.
SM. There’s only one problem. I don’t know if the fans will take it. They might want someone like Sean O’Driscoll – Available, lives locally, big Wolves fan, parents are season ticket holders…. Oh and a damn good coach too.
JM. Yes, but what’s he got going for him?
SM. I’ve got an idea. We get Saunders in, put a little circle over the ‘a’ in his christian name, shave his head and perhaps no one will notice the difference.
JM. Worth a try – Deån Saunders it is then. Must go now, my pie’s getting cold.
