Thursday News Review

This is the final, final reminder about the Wolves Blog Fantasy Football game. It’s free to enter and there are prizes for the top teams including Wolves shirts, DVDs and perhaps even tickets, courtesy of our friends at SportingBet.com. All the details can be found by clicking here. Entry closes tomorrow and then that’s it for the season.

I’ve just had a look around the various news sites to see what’s going on at the Wolves today and there’s a few bits and pieces floating around.

Mancienne - Deal almost done

Mancienne - Deal almost done

A few players who were out on international duty have picked up injuries. Berra and Doyle are both being assessed today to determine how serious their problems are, but hopefully they’ll be fit enough to play against West Ham. I didn’t think Doyle would start, but I’ll be disappointed if he’s not at least amongst the substitutes. Berra on the other hand was in my starting XI, but I suppose Stearman will probably slot in, should the big Scot not make it.

On a more positive defensive note, the season-long loan deal for Mancienne looks like it will finally be concluded today. Lescott to Man City has been the transfer that seems to have dragged on the most over the summer, but for Wolves fans, the Chinese whispers over Mancienne have become so tediously boring, I think we’ll all be glad to see this finally put to bed with a positive outcome.

It does make you wonder though, is there any chance Mancienne will go straight into the starting XI for the West Ham match? My guess would be, probably not. I’d like to see him alongside Berra or Stearman for the majority of this season, but I think he’ll be overlooked for this opening game. He should be amongst the subs though I’d imagine.

Finally, Moxey has hinted that we’re not yet done with a transfer dealings. Not really a surprise I suppose but good to hear him say we’re still actively looking. I’d like to think we’d get one or two more players, in addition to Mancienne, signed up before the window shuts.

Thanks for the reminder on the fantasy football, needed to change my team before saturday because of injuries.

As for more transfers, I really do hope for one more big signing. Hopefully a defender as we really do need to add and strengthen the back 4.

Hope we get some more in, but I do feel the fans are in a state of panick.
Every where you look they are embarrising the club with neg comments. I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion but at the moment it looks as though the prem is too big for some!

Good to see the Mancienne deal is now done and dusted.

It’s funny to see how negatively some fans are acting.

if you’d said at the end of last season we’ll bring Mancienne in on a season-long loan plus Kevin Doyle, a talented central midfielder (Milijas) and two or three other capable squad players, most people would have been pretty happy.

Hopefully we’ll get one or two experienced players in so we can all just get on with it.

Very happy with the signing of Mancienne. Nice one big Jez.

Now just for a striker, left back, and center mid.

Apparently Dean Ashton was at Compton today…anyone else heard this?

Has there been any official announcement from Wolves regarding Mancienne because I am still a little skeptical?

Hey Tom, remember this from the early days of the blog, before Doyle signed on the dotted line?

“Doyle followed by Mancienne, Huddlestone and maybe Andrew Surman from Southampton, and surely a top half finish wouldn’t be out of reach?!!!!”

One more to go and you owe me a half!! Haha. See you saturday.

Great news on Mancienne, and I reckon the euphoria will carry us through to a win against West Ham. However, I believe another striker is paramount.Hate to say this, but when SEB plays up front on his own he looks distincyly average

Fantastic news, now just a holding midfielder (see previous comments on M’Bami) and potentially a new target man…

This should shake people from the cloud of pessimism drawn from inactivity.

Everyone seen the news on the BBC???

We are to battle it out with Fulam for the £5m signature of Damian Duff. Not sure how to feel about this one, good solid Prem player who has played for a very good Chelsea side. But he plays on the wing. If we are to believe this, what fate Jarvis??

    Interesting!!!

How can Newcastle possibly be after £5mil for him? They payed that for him when he was good! I thought that because his wages were so high he’s be leaving virtually on a free along with some other big earners.

@Andrewwfc – Yes I do remember your wise transfer prophecy and if Huddlestone signs, I’ll gladly upgrade you to a full pint. I somehow don’t see that one happening though!

@Dazza – I know what you mean about SEB not being as good as a lone forward. He’s strong enough to hold the ball up but doesn’t pose enough of an aerial threat to make it work. I’d like to see us go 4-4-2 tomorrow and just attack teams, especially at home.

@EmeraldPete – Yeah, I saw that about Duff. If we can get him, I think he’d be a decent enough acquisition. I don’t think him signing would signal the end of Jarvis by any stretch of the imagination though. It’s just another player for the squad. We need 18 players we can consistently use throughout the season with the additional subs we can name. The more players the better in my opinion.

i definitely think duff could do something for us as long as he’s fit. he’s got the experience so many people want but for me i hope his passing is still as slick because that could release doyle and seb for counter attacks etc

We only sign players from Sunderland in the north east so don’t understand the Duff link. Perhaps Mick is confused

Tuncay doesn’t play for Sunderland either – we won’t sign him!!!!!
