So Wolves have made their first signing of the January window and it’s, er…Geoffrey Mujangi Bia. A loan move that can be made permanent at the end of the season.
That came out of left field a bit, but I suppose I’m not surprised we’ve got someone in from abroad with the domestic market so slow moving.
He’s a wide-man who can also operate in the middle according to Mick.
Hardly a signing to get Wolves fans salivating, but let’s give the bloke a chance. Here’s a video I found on YouTube:
call me an optimist, but im actually quite excited! i know its a totally different story in the PL but this guy seems to be always on the attack… which surely cant be a bad addition in terms of style of play?
Hopefully this kind of signing (providing it pays off) will let doyle stay in the far third to work his magic and give ebanks blake a bit more service? In regards to the whole ebanks blake issue I’m a bit torn because i think he can definitely cut it at this level… he just needs to break open that shell… which seems like it will take some time. Only thing is, we dont have time nor the luxury of playing a striker that scores no goals. Keep him on though, we just need a better midfield.
Agreed Jub, let’s give this bloke a chance and see what he can do. If he adds some pace to our attack and provides service to our front two, that can only be a good thing.
I heard on the grapevine that the club we’ve signed him from are in a spot of financial bother, which is the only reason he’s been made available and plenty of other top clubs have shown an interest.
Whether or not that’s true, I’m looking forward to seeing him given a chance, potentially against Palace on Saturday if his clearance comes through on time.
i agree – exciting!
lets face it we know nothing about him but even from youtube you can see:
- pros: both feet, direct, pace, dribbling.
- cons: head down player, end product?
we look so pedestrian at times it can surely only be a good thing to have him in the squad.
OK, call me a sceptic. The only thing we know for certain is that he cost nothing. More cash in the bonus kitty for fat moxey.
The reason we have failed in JUST ABOUT EVERY attempt to sign players this year and last (and the years before) is we dont want to spend a penny.
Have a go at my comment if you like but you’ll need to watch a Wigan, Bolton or Hammers game next season to get your premiership fix.
sorry, i just cant see any reason to be optimistic with these fat suits in charge
Ad, nobody is going to have a go at you for simply voicing your opinion. In fact, the majority would probably agree with everything you say.
I definitely see where you’re coming from and it’s not the marquee signing we’d all hoped for to get people believing in the board again.
I’ll be gutted if January comes and goes and this is the best signing we’ve made.
What I would say is, let’s wait until midnight on the 31st before assessing our efforts in the transfer market. I suspect we might all be feeling a bit better by then.
Don’t think you can judge alot from youtube but seeing as thats all we’ve got at the moment its better than nothing. Hopefully he’ll get a start saturday and we’ll be able to learn alot more about him then.
Also, agree with what your saying about SEB. The goals will come. The service to him so far this year has been limited. Hopefully this signing might give us another outlet into our strikers. At the moment unless milijas creates something we have no one looking like they can.
My other theory about SEB is that if any of you are the same as me, in every fantasy football team i did at the start of the season I put him in. He was pretty cheap compared to other premiership strikers and I was certain he’d score goals. Well i’ve decided that thats the reason he isn’t scoring. We’ve put the jinx on him. If you have him in your team transfer him out. I’ll be doing exactly that and bet he starts bagging soon
Bloody hell Ed, it’s all your fault then. I’ve been having a few bets on him to score and thought it was me being the unluckiest/worst gambler in the world that was stopping him from scoring. I’ll stop betting on him now as well.
Geoff looks pretty good on the vid (loving the overhead kick), won’t know for sure though until we’ve seen him play. Atleast he looks like a very attack minded player which is exactly what we need. Worth putting a few quid on him scoring against Palace?
Who? I’m with you Ad.
Funny how he was in the directors box on Saturday, and none of these so called football experts even recognised him! But that says it all about another ‘Hof rated’ gamble signing – at least its only on loan deal so if he doesn’t make a go of it he hasn’t become ‘Hof £2m wasted’! (also known as the Robert taylor gamble, the Tomasz Frankowski missing piece of the jigsaw gamble)
I could put together a Youtube montage of Jarvis floating past CCC defenders or SEB scoring twenty odd goals in a season but it doesn’t mean they can cut it in the prem.
I hope he proves to be a success, certainly looks like he has some pace at least. But I remember getting excited about the noises made when we signed Zubar and Castillo, only for then to become part of the cup squad!
I would be a lot happier if we had signed Hunt, Beattie or Zaki – what happened to needing to add Premier league experience? Quality not quantity for me – just look at Doyle.
Ed. I like your thinking – thought it was just me. I have cursed John Carew, Torres, Robbie Keane, and Jermaine Defoe, along with a load of others. Perhaps if I got SEB in the team, then took him out the morning of a game, he’d bag 4/5 like Keane and Defoe did to me!
Even Cesc was shit when I had him – he got injured!
I got in Diamnsi (whatever that West Ham striker’s name is) in the hope I’d curse him, only for our game to be called off.
At least Dann and Johnson are bringing in the points for me. Scant consolation for not buying them when we were being typically prudent, but consolation none the less!
I don’t mind signing this guy, and get him permanently if he’s any cop.
I wonder where the likes of Rodellega, Valencia, Palacios, Krankjaer etc etc originally came from before they ended up in the Premier league. Probably some non descript team like this bloke.
Hopefully a little gem, and a player we’d never consider years ago.
As far as Moxey’s concerned, its not a gamble and he keeps hitting his gross balance sheet targets.
Is he two footed or was it a different bloke towards the end as he seemed left footed to start but more right footed at the end? Seemed quick but that could all be relative to the “statues” on the other teams. It was good of the goaly to dive out of the way near the end of the clips.”Spreading” himself into a straight line parallel with the direction of travel of the ball.
Still Taff has been a good judge in the past – e.g. Kightly
My gut feeling is he will promise more than he delivers
Also is it just me or does that clip look speeded up at times!! I’m watching it at work so haven’t got any sound on but can anyone tell me if it has the benny hill music playing over it?!!
Ed, you and I both know that the Benny Hill music makes any video instantly hilarious, so shame on you for using it to mock that clip featuring our new hero.
Haha sorry mate!!!
Looks like he’ll fit into our squad perfectly 50 chances and 3 goals! Should put him higher than Keogh who has 500 chances and 1 goal and also higher than SEB with 5 chances and 0 goals. Other than that he looks pacy and direct which is definitely something we’ve been lacking.
I wonder if that youtube video was put together by his agent?
I was thinking overnight that we would probably end up just signing someone from abroad who maybe had Champions league experience.
This is probably as good as it gets.
I guess it’s another option for Mick though so it, by itself, does no harm.
Good analysis Jed – I noticed he didn’t get many of target, but was too worried about slagging him off before he’d even kicked a ball for us!!!
Everything I write on here seems to be a negative rant after yet another crap home performance against lower Prem teams!
I think we should give this guy a chance. time to show your teeth now your a wolf geoffrey!. I think if we are going to take this league serious the board needs to spend some money, if Stoke want 3.5 million for beattie then spend it, the same with Hull, hunt we could get for 5 miilion he is worth it. for god sake Wolves spend some money. i dont mean silly money just enough to keep us away from Hull,Bolton,Burnley. Anyway whats happened to the 30million from sky and the 30 million morgan promised????????????. i hope im totally wrong but i can see us being a decent fizzy pop league team.
Ahh, the benny hill music, makes the drogba/lehmann and ballack videos brilliant
Onto Geoff, it’s an interesting one. Let’s give him a chance first shall we, and if he turns out to be crap, then we send him back. What i will say is though that the youtube vids are a highlights package, and they could’ve been from five years ago
Still like us to sign a goalscorer please, it seems the Beattie and Hunt deals have dried up, Johnson don’t wanna come and Gardner’s off to Blues.
I hope it is from 5 years ago. That would make him a 15 year old wonder kid when it was filmed!
Is he as good as Banks’ Bia?
I’ll get me coat
gotta say the hopes for adam johnson are fading… chelsea are now rumoured as a possible club.
jub – johnson’s already said he don’t wanna come here. That’s probably why we got geoff
